THE 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS TOURING WITH 151K ON IT STARTED EXPERIENCING DASHBOARD GOING BLANK WHEN POWER BUTTON PRESSED. THE EMERGENCY SIGNAL AND DIRECTION SIGNAL WORKS BUT OTHER NAVIGATION OR MAIN DISPLAY INCLUDING SPEED, FUEL GAUGE AND MILEAGE DOESN'T WORK. DEALER SAID, IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY TO REPLACE EVEN THOUGH IT'S PART OF SAFETY WARNING BY TOYOTA BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RUN WITHOUT DASHBOARD DISPLAY INCLUDING BREAK SYSTEM WORKING BUT NOT SURE. IT'S VERY DANGER TO RUN THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT DASHBOARD AND MAY RUN OF FUEL OR GO OVER SPEED.
NEVER RECEIVED LETTER REGARDING EXTENDED WARRANTY ON BRAKE ACTUATOR WHICH I LEARNED EXPIRED DEC. 31 2017. BRAKES HAD BEEN MAKING OCCASIONAL NOISE LAST YEAR, BUT RECENTLY BECOME VERY BAD. ONLY LEARNED 2 DAYS AGO IT IS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. TOYOTA REFUSING TO FIX IT. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE. WHY IS IT NOT A RECALL?
HEADLIGHTS ARE INTERMITTENT. SOMETIMES LEFT, SOMETIMES RIGHT, SOMETIMES BOTH WILL TURN OFF. SO FAR, TURNING THE THE SWITCH OFF THEN BACK ON CURES THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY.
BRAKE, ABS, VSC ! LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE AND BREAKS NOT WORKING WELL.
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER THEN WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELYWHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY.. NO DASH LIGHTS. HAVE TO TURN CAR OFF AND ON
PROBLEM WITH HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, BUT NOW IT'S A DAILY OCCURRENCE AND HAPPENS IN THE DARK! TODAY IT HAPPENED TWICE. SO FAR I'VE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THEM OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THEY WORK, BUT PRETTY SCARY WHEN ON AN EXPRESSWAY. REALLY SURPRISED TOYOTA DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF THIS AS IT'S DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY'VE KNOWN ABOUT IT EARLY ON. DEATH OR INJURY IS SURE TO OCCUR. I WILL DEFINITELY BE CONTACTING TOYOTA ON MONDAY KNOWING SO MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS ISSUE, TOO!
HOOD LATCH WILL NOT OPEN 50, 60% OF THE TIME. MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND I FEEL IT SHOULD BE RECALLED..
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS COMPLAINT. WE HAVE A 2007 PRIUS AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF AT ALL. IT WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT OR ANYTHING. I REFUSE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEAL WHERE THEY WILL CHARGE FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEN REPAIR WHICH COULD TURN OUT TO BE $400.00, I CALLED THEM EARLIER THIS WEEK TO GET AN IDEA ABOUT THE COST.
DRIVER SEAT BELT CATCH NON FUNCTION, WILL NOT LOCK WHEN BELT CONNECTOR SLIPPED INTO LOCKING DEVICE. PURCHASED CAR USED HENCE UNSURE WHEN MALFUNCTION BEGAN.
I PRESSED THE BRAKES WHEN I WAS FORCED TO STOP DUE TO A CAR NOT TURNING THERE BLINKING LIGHT BUT CAR DIDNT STOP AND ENDED HITING ANOTHER CAR AND AND INJURING MY SELF AND OTHERS I TRIED TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SO I WOULD HIT THE CAR
VEHICLE IS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID DUE TO A FAILED BRAKE ACTUATOR. BRAKES FAILED DUE TO THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PRIOR EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION. TOYOTA GAVE ME ADDRESS AND IT WAS MAILED TO MY OLD HOME. VEHICLE IS NOW 2 MONTHS PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DATE. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED AS A RECALL AND NOT AN EXTENSION OF WARRANTY
THE DASHBOARD GOES BLACK! NO INSTRUMENTS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID I MISSED THE RECALL AND WON'T FIX IT. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY! 3/02/2018 YOU HAVE TO PUT THE FOB IN AND PRESS THE START BUTTON FOR 3 SECONDS JUST TO GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF.
THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY. TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS AND THEN BACK ON WILL TURN THE LIGHT BACK ON, SOMETIMES. DEALER'S REPAIR SHOP STATED HID LIGHTBULB WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. BASED ON OTHER POSTINGS, THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT FLICKERED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAD TO BE MANUALLY TURNED OFF AND ON TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE REAR LIFT GATE LATCH ON MY TOYOTA PRIUS HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE EXTERIOR RUBBER OVER THE LATCH MECHANISM/SWITCH HAS MELTED, TURNED GUMMY AND WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION TO OPEN THE LIFT GATE. IN COLD WEATHER THE LATCH HAS BEEN EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND THE TRIM PIECE CONTAINING THE TRUNK HATCH LATCH BEZEL WHILE TRYING TO GET THE LATCH TO RELEASE BROKE. I CAN NO LONGER OPEN THE TRUNK OF MY CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS A SECURITY AND A SAFETY HAZARD AS I CAN NOT ACCESS THE REAR HATCH OF MY CAR IN UNDER NORMAL USE NOR AN EMERGENCY AND DEFEATS THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF A HATCHBACK CAR WHICH IS ACCESS TO THE CAR'S INTERIOR. THE CAR JACK AND EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE, BATTERY LOCATED JUST BEHIND THE FAILED HATCH LATCH. I AM DISABLED, I CAN NOT PUT A WHEEL CHAIR IN/OUT. THIS IS UNSAFE AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THIS REPLACEMENT PART/SERVICE ONLY IS WARRANTY FOR 1 YEAR AT A PRICE OF $675 TO REPAIR. UNDER THE ADA ACT - PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ADVOCATE A RECALL.
I AM A DISABLED AMERICAN MILITARY VETERAN. I PURCHASED MY 2007 PRIUS IN SEPTEMBER 2017. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION REGARDING ABS RECALL. MY WIFE EXPERIENCED PROBLEM (WITH BABY IN CAR) IN FEBRUARY 2018. ATTEMPTED TO HAVE UNIT REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP BUT WAS REFUSED. APPLIED FOR HARDSHIP, WAS REFUSED. ABS STILL DOES NOT WORK.
IN FEB 2018 I NOTICED THAT SEVERAL LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY CAR THE VSC, ABS, AND PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT LIT UP. ALSO THE BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT. I HAD RECENTLY WENT FOR AND INSPECTION ON MY CAR IN JAN AND HAD BRAKES REPLACED AT MY LOCAL MONROE PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING SO I QUESTIONED THEM ON WHAT ALL THE LIGHTS MEANT AND THEY LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKE ACTUATOR FOR MY CAR. THEY ADVISED ME TO GO TO THE TOYOTA DEALER. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN A FEW WEEKS LATER IN MAR AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A LETTER SENT TO PRIUS OWNERS STATING THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON BRAKE ACTUATORS UNTIL END OF 2017. THEY HAVE IT IN TWO PHASES, AND IT'S UNLIMITED MILES UNTIL DEC 2017 FOR THE FIRST PHASE, THEN AFTER THAT IT'S 150K MILES/10 YEARS. IT ALSO SAYS THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT MUST BE ON FOR IT TO BE COVERED (IN OTHER WORDS, IT'S ONLY COVERED IF IT FAILS.) I NEVER RECEIVED THIS LETTER AND THE EXCEED THE 150K MILES BY 5K AND YEARS. THE CSR REP SAID HE WOULD SHE IF THEY COULD HONOR IT BEING THAT IT WAS SO EARLY IN THE 2018 YEAR ONLY A FEW MONTHS PASS THE DEADLINE BUT THE MANAGER ON SITE DECLINED AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. THE DEALER QUOTED ME $3,500.00 TO GET THIS REPLACED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND OF COURSE THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE LETTER STIPULATED A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME OF SERVICE. MY ISSUE IS THAT I #1 NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THIS RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY #2 I BROUGHT THIS CAR AT A DEALER CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED TOYOTA DEALER SO THEY SHOULD OF UPDATED MY INFO IN THE SYSTEM (ADDRESS, EX.) #3 MY CAR IS A ELECTRICAL CAR AND NEEDED THIS FIX TO OPERATE PROPERLY... I FEEL LIKE I'M BEING PUNISHED ABOUT A DEFECT UNDISCLOSED TO ME WHICH NOW IS A HEFTY COST. #4 MY ISSUE HAPPEN 2-3 MONTHS AFTER STILL NOT FAR OFF. I'M FILING A COMPLAINT IN HOPES OF FINDING HELP TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. .
MY CAR HAS BEEN MAKING THE "SNORING" SOUNDS INCREASINGLY OFTEN FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS BUT NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED UNTIL I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MPH DURING THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY 2018. IT WAS EXTREMELY UNNERVING TO HAVE THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT, AND VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS NOT KNOWING IF THE BRAKES WERE GOING TO WORK. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILURE AND ADVISED THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2017, 5 WEEKS PRIOR. I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN MAY 2016 WHEN THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED AND WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE THIS POSSIBLE MALFUNCTION AND ALSO HAD WARRANTY FILLED BY THAT SAME DEALERSHIP WHEN MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT DARK IN AUGUST 2015 WHEN AGAIN, WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS ONGOING WARRANTY ISSUE. MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS THAT THE 2004 RECEIVED 13 YEARS OF COVERAGE UNDER THIS WARRANTY WHEN TOYOTA OBVIOUSLY WAS UNABLE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BY THE THE TIME MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED, HOWEVER, MY REPAIR IS NOT COVERED AT ALL AFTER ONLY 10 YEARS. MY MILEAGE WAS EXTREMELY LOW AT JUST UNDER 86K SO IT'S MALFUNCTION IS NOT FROM OVERUSE BUT FROM FROM A DEFECTIVE PART. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL (19S17/19V-435) THE VEHICLE FAILED. WHILE DRIVING ON A SLIGHT CORNER, THE VEHICLE'S REAR SHIFTED TO THE LEFT AND MADE A NOISE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN THE CONTACT ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND PUSHED THE START BUTTON, HE HAD TO HOLD THE BUTTON FOR 3 TO 10 SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE STARTED. OCCASIONALLY, ALL THE INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO FUNCTION, WHICH PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM KNOWING HOW FAST HE WAS TRAVELING AND THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA WALNUT CREEK (2100 N BROADWAY, WALNUT CREEK, CA 94596) STATED THAT THE COMBINATION METER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILURE. BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED AS CAR WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION AND SECONDARILY THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OFF. AN ALARM WENT OFF AND BRAKES FAILED AT ABOUT 45 MPHIL.
I BOUGHT THIS 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS USED AND WAS NOT INFORMED BY THE SELLER THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HID HEADLAMPS. WHILE DRIVING, THE RIGHT HEADLAMP WILL PERIODICALLY FLICKER AND/OR CUT OUT. TURNING OFF THEN ON THE HEADLIGHTS RESETS IT TO BE ON. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLME ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. REPLACING THE BULBS FOR THIS MODEL ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND THIS PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. THANK YOU!
STARTING MAY 2015 WHOLE DASHBOARD IN MY CAR SPORADICALLY GOES BLACK, I CAN'T SEE HOW FAST I WAS GOING OR HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE LEFT OR USE MY BACKUP CAMERA IN MY CAR. FOR ABOUT AN HOUR I COULDN'T EVEN GET MY CAR TO TURN OFF. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVER SO OFTEN SINCE MAY OF 2015 AND IS VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING MY CAR IN THAT CONDITION. THE OTHER DAY MY CAR RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE BRIDGE FROM THE 5 FREEWAY TO THE 91 FREEWAY AND I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE BRIDGE WITH CARS PASSING AT HIGH VELOCITY BECAUSE I WASNT ABLE O SEE MY GAS METER. TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT AS SHOWN BELOW AND ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR ALL MODELS 2004-2009 AND MY CAR FALLS 2 MONTHS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PROGRAM AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. HEADLIGHTS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING STOPPED WORKING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN DROVE TO KOONS TYSON'S TOYOTA IN TYSON'S CORNER, VA WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMBINATION METER WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING FLICKERED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER TO DISREGARD THE SYMPTOM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1801160899. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
MY BRAKES HAVE BEGUN TO MAKE SEVERAL DIFFERENT NOISES. UPON RESEARCHES I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATORS ARE KNOWN TO FAIL. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR AS IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF MY BRAKES GO OUT ON THE FREE WAY.
MY BRAKE, ABS, VSC, AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT (!) ALL TURNED ON AT THE SAME TIME ON JANUARY 6TH WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF 45 MPH. I ONLY JUST PURCHASED MY VEHICLE ON DECEMBER 30TH, 2017 AT 133K MILES. IT WAS REVEALED THAT MY CAR HAD THE 1256 AND 1391 WARNING CODES, INDICATING THAT MY BRAKE ACCUMULATOR HAS A LEAK. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY PERVASIVE FOR PEOPLE WITH 2ND GENERATION TOYOTA PRIUSES AND THAT THERE WAS A MISASSEMBLY OF THE BRAKE ACTUATORS IN THE FACTORY THAT CAUSES PEOPLE'S BRAKES TO DELAY OR FAIL COMPLETELY. TOYOTA PUT OUT A TSB TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT ENDED ON DECEMBER 31ST 2017. HOWEVER, SEEING AS HOW TOYOTA KNOWINGLY HAD A MISASSEMBLY OF THEIR OWN PRODUCT AND THAT THE BRAKES FAILING POSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A TSB IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE LACK OF REGARD FOR CONSUMER'S LIVES BY TOYOTA TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY CREATED, WITHOUT ULTIMATUMS, HAS LED ME TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT THAT THIS PRODUCT BE RECALLED AND REPLACED. THIS PROBLEM POSES A SAFETY RISK TO MYSELF AND ALL PASSENGERS THAT ENTER THE CAR WITH ME AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY THE OVER $2000 REPAIR AND I DON'T SEE WHY CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR THE MISTAKES THAT TOYOTA HAS KNOWINGLY MADE.
THE REAR HATCH LATCH DETERIORATES AND MAKES IT INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH. IT IS NOW COMPLETELY BROKEN AND THE BACK HATCH IS INACCESSIBLE ' MAKING IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCESS THE SPARE TIRE IN CASE OF A ROAD-SIDE EMERGENCY.
MY CAR HAS A CLUNKING/RATTLE SOUND WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR UNEVEN ROADS EVEN WITHOUT BRAKES SLIGHTLY ENGAGED. IT ALSO DOES THIS WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH ON SMOOTH ROADS BUT IF I TURN WHEELS SLIGHTLY LEFT OR RIGHT THE SOUND STOPS AND WHEN I TURN THEM BACK STRAIGHT IT BEGINS AGAIN. IT IS SO BAD THAT YOU CAN FEEL IT ON YOUR FEET AND STRONGLY THRU THE STEERING COLUMN. ALSO THE FRONT TIRES WEAR HEAVILY ON THE INSIDE EDGE. IT FEELS LIKE STEERING COLUMN MAY BE LOOSE AT TIMES. ALSO THE HORN KEEPS BLOWING FUSES AND WHEN YOU PUT A NEW FUSE IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL SHOCK YOU E EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. AND THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP WILL NOT READ TEMP. I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON TO REPLACE OLD FRONT TIRES AND ROTATED ALL AND BALANCED AND JUST HAD NEW BRAKES PUT ON FROM DEALSHIP. RADIO RECEPTION IS HORRIBLE EVEN THOUGH OTHER VEHICLES IN SAME AREA GET GREAT RECEPTION. I LOVE THIS CAR BUT I DID BUY IT USED SO I AM NOT SURE IF ALL RECALLS HAVE BEEN FIXED OR IF THEY NEED FIXED AGAIN. IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF MECHANICS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING.*DT CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED.*JB
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: THE WATER COOLANT PUMP HASN'T BEEN PROPERLY WORKING FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. MY AIR AND THE ENGINE POWER ARE BOTH AFFECTED DUE TO A RANDOM ISSUE WITH THIS PART WHILE MY CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. MY AIR CONDITION MOTOR HAS BEEN RECENTLY REPLACED AND ALL MY ENGINE FLUIDS ARE FILLED.
WHILE DRIVING IN CITY OR HIGHWAY THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT SUDDENLY. TURNING LIGHTS OFF THEN ON AGAIN TURNS HEADLIGHTS BACK ON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING AT NIGHT OR ON DARK ROADS.
THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER COMBINATION METER WHICH CONTAINS THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAY. THIS CLUSTER TENDS TO MALFUNCTION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON. THE DISPLAY WILL NOT TURN ON WITH THE REST OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MALFUNCTION ALLOWS A DRIVER TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE, BUT WITHOUT THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND GEAR SHIFT DISPLAY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MANY PRIUS DRIVERS ARE DRIVING WITHOUT THE USE OF A SPEEDOMETER!!! TOYOTA ISSUED A 9 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR THEIR 2ND GENERATION PRIUS MODELS. CLEARLY THIS IS EVIDENCE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. WITH 2ND GENERATION PRIUS SERIES (2003-2009) RAPIDLY AGING OUT OF THIS 9 YEAR EXTENDED CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM, THIS POSES AN EVER INCREASING CONSUMER SAFETY RISK TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. REPAIR COSTS THE TRADE IN VALUE OF THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN $3,000 WHILE THE REPAIR QUOTED BY MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WAS $1028. THIS REPAIR COST HIGHLY DISCOURAGES OWNERS TO GET THIS FIXED. SINCE THERE IS LITTLE INCENTIVE TO INVEST IN THIS COSTLY REPAIR, I AM CONCERNED THAT MANY PRIUS DRIVERS ARE DRIVING WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER! BY GOING THOUGH CONSIDERABLE EFFORT TO DETACH THE START BATTERY WHEN THIS PROBLEM SURFACES, THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE DISPLAY CAN GO THOUGH A HARD RESET, AND TENDS TO OPERATE PROPERLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS WOULD ALLOW AN INDIVIDUAL TO EASILY PASS A SAFETY INSPECTION, BUT THE CONSIDERABLE EFFORT TO GO THOUGH THIS PROCESS WOULD PREVENT CONSUMERS TO GO THOUGH THIS EFFORT EVERY TIME THE DISPLAY WENT OUT. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOULD BE RECALLED IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY! THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE REPAIRED OR TAKEN OFF THE STREETS! VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTIONS ARE NOT LIKELY TO CATCH THIS ISSUE, AS THE PROBLEM CAN BE TEMPORARY MASKED.
GENERATION 2 TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKE ACTUATOR. AT SLOW SPEED, THE BRAKES BECAME INOPERABLE AND WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR CAUSING ME TO REAR END A TRUCK STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AT A STOP LIGHT. ALL OF THE BRAKE, ABS LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH. 2 SEPARATE TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED RESULTED IN NO ERROR CODES FOUND. TODAY 2-8-18 THE DASH LIGHTS ALL CAME ON AGAIN, AND THE DEALER SAID THE COMPUTER CODE IS STATING FAULTY BRAKE ACTUATOR WHICH COULD RESULT IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE.
HEADLIGHTS (LOW-BEAM) TURNED OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. FLICKING LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON USUALLY TURNED LIGHTS BACK ON. FLICKING ON BRIGHTS AND THEN BACK TO LOW DIDN'T HELP.
HID HEADLIGHTS GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. TURNING OFF AND BACK ON WILL RESTART FOR A BIT. SOMETIMES THEY ARE DIM OR FLICKER BEFORE GOING OFF. I HAVE CHANGED THE BALLAST AND BULBS FOR BOTH SIDES MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS WITHOUT A PERMANENT REPAIR. HAD ALL WORK REDONE WITH NEW TOYOTA PARTS ON 11/29 AND THEY ARE NOT WORKING AGAIN ON 12/1. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THIS MODEL AND TOYOTA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BUT THAT IS LONG SINCE PAST. THE VEHICLE IS UNUSABLE AFTER DARK AS THEY ARE NOW BOTH GOING OFF WITHOUT WARNING.
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE PRONE TO TURNING TO OFF RANDOMLY, SOMETIMES ONE SIDE, OTHER TIMES BOTH SIDES. AFTER TURNING THEM ON/OFF AT THE STEERING COLUMN THEY WILL COME BACK ON FOR A WHILE THEN THE ISSUE STARTS OVER. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WITH THE VEHICLE EITHER MOVING OR IN THE STATIONARY MODE. NO HEADLIGHTS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD. SO FAR, TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX. THE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT ONE AT A TIME IF THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHT GOES OUT BOTH LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT. I GOT A WARNING TICKET FOR HEADLIGHT OUT BY OFFICER WHEN I TURNED THEM OFF AND BACK ON THEY CAME ON. NEXT DAY WENT TO INSPECTION STATION AND THE LIGHTS PASSED. HAVE INSPECTION REPORT AND WARNING TICKET. DATE OF INCIDENT 11/27/2017. REPLACED BULBS SEVERAL TIMES. VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE BOTH LIGHTS GO OUT DRIVING 70 MPH.
AFTER I NOTICED THAT THE SUV SUFFICIENTLY AHEAD OF ME IN THE SAME LANE WAS STOPPING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, I STARTED SLOWING DOWN WITH PLENTY OF SPACE. I GLANCED FOR A SECOND TO MY RIGHT SIDE TO CHECK SAFETY AROUND ANOTHER SET OF HEADLIGHTS. WHEN I FACED FORWARD I COULD SEE THAT I WAS GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE ABOUT-TO-TURN CAR AHEAD OF ME. I IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD AND SLAMMED INTO THE SUV'S REAR END. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO PHYSICALLY INJURIES, BUT THE COLLISION CAUSED LOW/MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE SUV AND MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY PRIUS -- ENOUGH THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CLOBBERED, AND THAT MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. AT THE TIME OF THIS POST, THE REPAIR SHOP HAS NOT YET FINISHED EVALUATING IT AND REPORTING ON ALL THE DAMAGED PARTS AND THE ESTIMATE COSTS. PRIOR TO PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO, I HAD CHECKED FOR ACTIVE RECALLS BUT FOUND NONE, AND I CONFIRMED THE SAME SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE. APPARENTLY, THOUGH, TOYOTA HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM EVEN AFTER MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUCH A FAILURE DURING AN EMERGENCY NEED FOR A TOTAL STOP. I AM REALLY INTERESTED IN PURSUING FURTHER ACTION, POSSIBLY THROUGH LEGAL AVENUES.
WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DIPS BELOW 40 F, THE REAR GATE DOES NOT OPEN. THE RUBBER COVERING OF THE SWITCH TO LIFT THE GATE GETS VERY HARD AND DOES NOT RESPOND TO PRESSURE TO OPEN THE REAR LIFT GATE.

THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON, I WILL JUST BE DRIVING AND A HEADLIGHT WILL GO OFF AND WILL COME BACK ON IF I TURN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF THE BACK TO ON.

THE CAR MAY ALSO NOT TURN OFF WITHOUT GOING THROUGH ELABORATE PROCEDURES. IT IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS IN THAT THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE FUEL GAUGE DO NOT DISPLAY. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECTIVE OMPONENT AND ISSUED AN "ENHANCED WARRANTY" TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY IF THE PROBLEM MANIFESTED ITSELF WITHIN THE DEFINED PERIOD OF THE ENHANCED WARRANTY.. FOR THOSE PRIUS OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS LIFE-THREATENING FLAW AFTER THE ENHANCED WARRANTY PERIOD ELAPSED, THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE OR TO PAY FOUR FIGURES FOR A REPAIR.
