SPORADICALLY, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WILL NOT LIGHT UP. WHEN THIS HAPPEN THE BACKUP CAMERA WILL NOT DISPLAY AS WELL. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT IS A WHILE BEFORE THE THEY WILL DISPLAY.
IF I DRIVE ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR AROUND TOWN AND I'M DRIVING A HALF HOUR SOMETIMES LESS MY CAR MAKES A LOUD BUZZING NOISE AND MY INSTRUMENT PANEL THE HAZARD LIGHTS GO ON AND I LOSE MY BRAKES. THIS WAS VERY SCARY. THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T GOING TO FAST TOWARD THE LIGHT AND DIDN'T HIT ANYONE. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT DOES THIS ALL THE TIME IF I'M DRIVING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME 1/2 HOUR OR MORE. MY VEHICLE WAS ON CITY STREET AND ON HIGHWAY. I WAS IN MOTION. ON THE HIGHWAY 70MPH AND ON CITY STREETS 35/40 MPH.
IT HAD RAINED OUTSIDE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE MY CAR SLID AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PUSH AND SLID AS IF IT WAS ON ICE. WHEN TRYING TO PARK THE CAR IT STOPPED SUDDENLY AS IF I HIT A WALL.
THE BRAKE ACCUATOR ON THE GENERATION 2 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS BECOME FAMOUS FOR FAILING. TOYOTA RAN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER, DEALERSHIPS IGNORED THE PROBLEM AND INSTEAD FIXED OTHER ISSUES WITHOUT ACTUALLY GOING AFTER THE ACCUATOR UNTIL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. NOW MY CAR'S ACCUATOR FOR THE BRAKES IS BAD, AS INDICATED BY WARNING LIGHTS AND ALARMS. I FEAR THAT MY 10 YEAR OLD CAR WILL HAVE A BRAKE FAILURE. THE REPAIR IS ESTIMATED AT OVER $2500 FOR A DEFECTIVE TOYOTA PART. THIS IS UNFAIR THAT TOYOTA MADE A BAD PART THAT CONSISTENTLY FAILS IN THIS MODEL AND THAT THEY DO NOT FIX ALL OF THEM WITH A PROPER RECALL, OR EXCLUDE DRIVERS AFTER NOT RELAYING IMPORTANT INFORMATION. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE STREET WHEN ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON WARNING ME THAT MY BRAKE SYSTEM WAS FAILING SO I LEFT THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WILL NOT DRIVE IT FURTHER.
DEFECTIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY ASSEMBLY
BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED WITHOUT WARNING ON THE HIGHWAY. DIFFICULT TO BRAKE. VERY DANGEROUS
TAKATA RECALL 1. DRIVING ON SURFACE STREET AT APPROX. 45 MPH ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN FOR AN INTERSECTION ALL THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, WHILE I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY HAD FAILED, EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. AFTER THAT INCIDENT THE BRAKES ARE WORKING NORMAL. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND IT IS NO LONGER VALID, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM (USED) NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF ANY RECALLS. I AM A TOYOTA OWNER WITH A DEFECTED VEHICLE (A KNOWN DEFECT BY THE MANUFACTURE). WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? 2. THE HEADLAMPS (LEFT) INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT, I HAVE REPLACED THE LAMP, CHECKED THE FUSES AND IT STILL HAPPENS, OTHERS HAVE DESCRIBED LOOSING BOTH LAMPS. BOTH ISSUES ABOVE ARE SAFETY ISSUES THAT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO SERIOUS INJURY INCIDENTS. THESE SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA.
EVERY DAY THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT RANDOMLY AT NIGHT. VERY DANGEROUS.
MY HEADLIGHT CONSISTENTLY FLICKERS ON AND OFF. I HAVE CHANGED MY BULB, BUT IT CONTINUES TO TURN OFF AT TIMES. FROM MY RESEARCH ONLINE, IT LOOKS LIKE THE 2007-2009 PRIUS MODELS WERE RECALLED DUE TO FAULTY HEADLIGHTS.
FRONT WHEELS LOOSE ALL TRACTION ON ICY PATCH! TRAVELING NORTH ON AN OLD PAVED COUNTRY ROAD WITH A MODERATE CROWN AND NARROW LANES, I CAME UPON A MODEST BLUFF THAT WAS JUST ABRUPT ENOUGH TO KEEP ME FROM SEEING THE ROAD SURFACE ON THE OTHER SIDE. WITHIN 50' OF THE OTHER SIDE WAS BLOWING SNOW, SOME STICKING AND TURNING INTO ICE. AIR TEMP. 27 DEGREES. DON'T KNOW THE SURFACE TEMP, AND IT WAS SUNNY, NICE. THIS PATCH WAS 500' OR SO AND PROMPTED ME TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR. I WAS APPROACHING 50 MPH, NOT FAST FOR THIS ROAD AND WAS IN NO HURRY. WITHIN THE TIME OF A BREATH, MY FRONT END BLEW SMOOTHLY TOWARD THE DITCH AND ME AND THE PRIUS CAME TO REST WITHIN 30' OR SO. NOW THIS LIGHT TO MODERATE CROSS WIND TOOK CONTROL OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR, 'NOT THE BACK'. THE POINT BEING, REAR WHEELS ARE FREE SPINNING, WHILE FRONT WHEELS HAVE A RATHER AGGRESSIVE BREAKING EFFECT. MIND YOU, NEVER CONSIDERED TOUCHING THE 'BREAKS'. IN ADDITION, I'VE LEARNED THAT DRIVING ON SNOW COVERED TOWN STREETS, THAT IT IS BEST TO POP THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND APPLYING THE SERVICE BRAKES, THIS ACTION WOULD PREVENT THE CAR SLIPPING OR SLIDING AT ALL. (3 MO. OLD MICHELIN DEFENDER TIRES) NOT DEDICATED SNOW TIRES, BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE, VERY GOOD. THIS TOWN I LIVE IN HAS VERY STEEP GRADES, I'M ABLE TO NEGOTIATE ALL OF IT COMING AND GOING. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT (STATE FARM CLAIM #[XXX]) WAS CAUSED BY THE OVERLY AGGRESSIVE REGENERATIVE BREAKING ACTION WHEN REMOVING ONES FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. ADDITIONALLY, I WOULD LIKE POINT OUT THAT A HOUR EARLIER WHILE DRIVING TO MY DESTINATION, I'D DRIVEN OVER MANY DRIFTING PATCHES AT VARYING SPEEDS FROM 50 TO 70 MPH WITH A STIFFER CROSS WIND. HOWEVER I COULD SEE THEM FAR IN ADVANCE. AFTER A LENGTHY GO-A-ROUND WITH TOYOTA OVER THE PHONE, THE RESPONSE WAS, THEY WILL TAKE NO ACTION ON THIS CAR OR IN THE FUTURE MODELS. FIRST ISSUE IS WITH THE REAR LATCH BEING USELESS SOMETIMES DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER AS THE MOLDING IS ALL MELTED AND ACCESS TO THE TRUNK BEING IMPOSSIBLE. SECOND AND MOST IMPORTANT I'VE NOTICED THE BRAKING ON THIS CAR IS VERY VERY SUSPECT. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AROUND 6 MONTHS AGO FROM WESTBURY TOYOTA AND I'VE LEARNED I NEED TO APPLY MY BRAKES AT LEAST A GOOD 50 TO 100 FEET BEFORE THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. COUPLE MONTHS AGO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BRAKED SO SUDDEN THAT I ALSO HIT MY BRAKES, THE ABS SIGN FLASHED AS IF IT "WAS" WORKING BUT THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING, I ENDED UP PRESSING THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND STILL NO RESULT. IF I HADN'T KEPT MY DISTANCE I WOULD'VE DEFINITELY ENDED UP IN THAT CARS TRUNK. I CAN SAY FROM ALL MY EXPERIENCE AS A DRIVER AND ALL THE CARS I'VE OWNED THIS CAR HAS THE WORST BRAKING SYSTEM IN THE HISTORY OF MOTOR VEHICLES. FEELS LIKE BRAKING A 747 PLANE. I HAVE A TOYOTA PRIUS 2007, 283950 MILES , SAFETY RECALL ZG1 ENDED ON DEC2017. THE SYMPTOMS ON THIS RECALL IS NOT CONTSTANT BEFORE IN MY CAR, BUT NOW IT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME . THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS MAKING A LOT OF NOISE, I'M AFRAID IT'S GOING TO FAIL ON ME WHEN I NEEDED IT THE MOST . CAN YOU RECOMMEND TOYOTA TO EXTEND IT SOME MORE ?

FOR A MONTHS THE CAR IM DRIVING HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE DANGEROUS FROM STEERING TO SPEED ,BRAKING AND DRASTIC WOBBLING OF ENTIRE CAR I'VE TAKEN PICTURES AND VIDEO ITS UNBELIEVABLE AND OUTRAGEOUS. *TR
MY BRAKE ACTUATOR IS GOING BAD, I HAVE E-BRAKE LIGHT ON ALWAYS, AS WELL AS VSC, ABS, AND ((!)) LIGHTS ON THE DASH. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND NOT THE LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF AND THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS CONSTANTLY MAKING NOISE AND RUNNING.
TOYOTA SENT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTICE ON THE COMBINATION METER TO THE WRONG ADDRESS; THEREFORE, I COULD NOT "CONNECT THE DOTS" REGARDING MY DASHBOARD BLACKOUT--MEANING I THOUGHT IT WAS QUIRKY, NOT A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THE COMBINATION METER. MY 2007 PRIUS WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES ON IT NEEDS A REPLACEMENT COMBINATION METER BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT PAY FOR IT--CLAIMING IT PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY RESPONSE IS: SO WHAT? I AM DRIVING A DANGEROUS VEHICLE WHICH DOES NOT INDICATE THE SPEED I'M DRIVING, THE GAS SUPPLY, THE WARNING LIGHTS, AND BACKUP CAMERA. I HAVE HAD THE REQUISITE SERVICES OVER THE YEARS AND THE PROBLEM IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN TOYOTA'S MANUFACTURING AND SUPPLY CHAIN. IF TOYOTA REALLY CARES ABOUT THE CUSTOMER, WHY WON'T TOYOTA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILING PART AND REPAIR MY PERILOUS VEHICLE? THE SITUATION IS DANGEROUS! I CAN'T LOCK THE CAR, KNOW FOR SURE WHEN IT IS TURNED OFF, SEE THE WARNING LIGHTS, KNOW IF THE AIRBAG ALERT IS LEGIT--NON-FUNCTIONAL ALL. TO REPLACE THE FAILED PART WILL COST NEAR $1000, MY MONTHLY SOCIAL SECURITY. THINK ABOUT THIS PRICETAG, TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND LOCAL DEALERSHIPS. MY SAFETY IS SEVERELY JEOPARDIZED. PLEASE WORK TO RECALL THESE IMPACTED VEHICLES. THAT MY PRIUS HAS BEEN SERVICED EVERY SINGLE YEAR ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE, THAT THIS MYSTERIOUS DARK SCREEN HAS BEEN POPPING UP FOR YEARS, AND THAT TOYOTA SENT THE NOTICE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THE WRONG ADDRESS SHOULD DEMONSTRATE WHERE THE CULPABILITY LIES. TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND FIX ALL THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES--BEHAVIOR WHICH DEMONSTRATES THE COMPANY TRULY CARES ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS!
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND GO OUT EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT THAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. NOT SAFE TO BE GOING D DOWN ROAD AND HEADLIGHTS GO.OUT COMPLETELY. .IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR.NEARLY 6.MONTHS. HAD HEADLIGHT REPLACED 3 MONTHS AGO.
HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. I DO NOT OPERATE THE LIGHTS IN DAYTIME. IT'S A MAJOR FLAW AND PROBLEM WITH THIS 2006-2009 MODEL AND A SAFETY HAZARD. NOT TO MENTION I AM ALMOST ALWAYS SUBJECT TO POLICE ISSUES TICKETS AND FINES. I HAVE REPLACED MY BULBS COUNTLESS TIMES. THE LIGHTS GO OUT WHILE STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. ALWAYS ONE AT A TIME.
BREAKING NOISE BEHIND DRIVER DASHBOARD SIMILIAR TO WHIRRING OR MOTOR SOUND, COMES ON WETHER THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED OR NOT DRIVING OR STATIONARY... VERY BOTHERSOME, BREAKS ALSO HAVE BARK SOUND AT TIMES WHEN PRESSED DOWN. WENT TO DEALER AND WAS DISMISSED AS IT BEING NORMAL, CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO WORK ON A REPAIR. PLEASE ADVISE

FRONT HEADLIGHT (BOTH) SOMETIMES ALL LIGHTS WILL GO OFF. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS ONE OR THE OTHER BUT I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN WHERE BOTH COMPLETELY TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. ON THE FREEWAY!!! THIS HAPPENS DAILY AND IVE EVEN BEEN PULLED OVER MORE THAN 3 TIMES DUE TO ME NOT KNOWING ABOUT A LIGHT OUT! TURNING ON AND OFF THE LIGHTS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX!
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DOESN'T SHOW WHEN THE CAR IN TURNED ON AND THE CAR WOULDN'T SHUT OFF WITHOUT FOLLOWING ALTERNATE SHUT OFF INSTRUCTIONS. THIS HAPPENED IN OCTOBER 26,2018 AND AGAIN ON DECEMBER 9,2018. APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM IS THE COMBINATION METER WHICH TOYOTA DID A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR 9 YEARS FROM PURCHASE DATE WHICH MEANS THEY WON'T FIX MINE UNLESS I PAY $800.00 PLUS TAX. SINCE I'M OUT OF THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE LESS THAT 100,000. MILES. IT'S DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH NO DISPLAY PANEL NOT KNOWING HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING OR GAS GUAGE AND A LOT OF SENIORS OWN THIS VEHICLE AND CAN'T AFFORD SUCH A COSTLY EXPENSE. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL NOT A WARRANTY NOTICE.
THE BRAKE ACTUATOR WENT OUT OCTOBER OF 2018. I TOOK THIS CAR TO BE QUOTED FOR A PART AND THE PART AND LABOR ARE $2500. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE WITHOUT STOPPING POWER. THIS IS NOT A RARE PROBLEM FOR THE TOYOTA PRIUS IN 2007. I KNOW THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT RECEIVING THE $2500 OR HIGHER BILL OF REPAIR. TOYOTA SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR. A BATTERY REPAIR IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN, BUT THIS REPAIR IS ALMOST AS MUCH AS A BATTERY AND MAKES THE PRIUS NOT WORTH BUYING. THE VEHICLE ABS, RED TRIANGLE MASTER LIGHT, VSC, AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL TURNED ON AT ONCE AFTER A DRIVE OF 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER SKIDDING TO A STOP, I COULD CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS SYSTEM FAILURE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
WHILE DRIVING (IN MOTION), ONE HEADLIGHT (EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT) WILL SUDDENLY GO OFF. IF I TURN BOTH LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON, THEY WILL BOTH COME BACK ON. BUT ONE OR THE OTHER MIGHT GO OFF AGAIN SOON AFTERWARDS. IT SOMETIMES HAPPENS ON SHORT TRIPS (A FEW BLOCKS) AND SOMETIMES ONLY AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES. IT HAPPENS ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY, WHILE GOING STRAIGHT. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS AFTER A NOTICEABLE BUMP IN THE ROAD, BUT OTHER TIMES IT HAPPENS WHEN THE ROAD IS SMOOTH. IT HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEED (<30 MPH), MEDIUM, OR HIGHWAY SPEED.
THE WARNING LIGHTS IS SHOWING UP ON MY DASHBOARD ABS,VSC,BRAKE LIGHT AND A CIRCLE IS COMING UP ON MY DASHBOARD.
BOTH FRONT HEADLIGHTS FREQUENTLY TURN OFF AT THE SAME TIME WHILE DRIVING. TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF THEN ON FIXES THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY, UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN A SHORT TIME LATER. THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER HOUR.
SQUEALING BRAKE ACTUATOR. OCCURS WHEN CAR IS STOPPED, IN GEAR, BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED DOWN. THIS IS AN INDICATOR ACTUATOR IS FAILING, CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA ROCKWALL (1250 E. INTERSTATE 30, ROCKWALL, TX) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYBRID WATER PUMP WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 214,000. *TT*JB
MY CAR HAD NOT EXHIBITED PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH BREAKING. UPON LEAVING SCHOOL, THE ABS, VSC, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON ACCOMPANIED BY A LONG, LOUD, AND CONTINUOUS BEEP. I PULED OVER INTO A PARKING LIGHT AND IT ALL STOPPED. I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AS THE CAR SEEMED TO BE FINE NOW. UPON APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, MY CAR PUT ITSELF IN NEUTRAL AND COMPRESSED THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND HAD TO RUN IT INTO A CURB IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD IT TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS FAILING. UPON CALLING TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE, I WAS NOTIFIED OF AN ENHANCED WARRANTY THAT EXISTED THROUGH 12/31/17. HOWEVER, I NEVER RECEIVED AN NOTICE OF THIS WARRANTY NOR HAD MY VEHICLE HAD ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO 12/31/17 THAT WOULD SUGGEST TO ME THAT THE CAR'S ABS NEEDED SERVICED. I AM UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND DESPITE TOYOTA'S NEGLIGENCE IN COMMUNICATING THE DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT TO ME, THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THE SITUATION.
DRIVING CAR ON THE FREEWAY IN THE FAR LEFT LANE. E-BRAKE LIGHT TURNED ON WITH THE LOUD ALARM SOUND AS IF I HAD ACTIVATED MY E-BRAKE. I LOST SIGNIFICANT BREAKING POWER AND WAS VERY LUCKY NOBODY STOPPED FAST IN FRONT OF ME WHILE IT HAPPENED. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, BUT IT WAS VERY SCARY ON THE FREEWAY NOT BEING ABLE TO BREAK PROPERLY. I LEARNED IT WAS THE ABS ACTUATOR THAT HAD FAILED, WAS TOLD MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED BUT I HAD NO IDEA THERE EVEN WAS A RECALL. IF THEY KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE WHY WAS IT NOT FIXED WHEN I HAD MY CAR SERVICED? PT#04003-44647

THE REAR HATCH IS EXTREMELY HARD TO OPEN IN THE SUMMER AND NOW IN THE WINTER EVEN HARDER. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. MY CAR IS PARKED UNDER A CARPORT WINTER AND SUMMER. I HAVE LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET IN THE REAR HATCH TO CHANGE A TIRE OR GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN CASE OF EMERGENCY AND I SOMETIMES CAN'T GET IT TO OPEN. IS THERE SOME WAY TOYOTA CAN HELP MAKE THIS RIGHT. THE RUBBER PART THAT YOU PRESS IS HARDER THAN A STICK AND WON'T RELEASE. THIS HAPPENS SOME TIMES AT THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT OR AT ANY STORE PARKING LOT. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE HOME AND CAN'T GET MY GROCERIES OUT BECAUSE THE HATCH WON'T LET IT RELEASE. IS THIS A DEFECT THAT CAN BE CORRECTED?
MY BRAKE ACTUATOR IS GOING BAD, I HAVE E-BRAKE LIGHT ON ALWAYS, AS WELL AS VSC, ABS, AND ((!)) LIGHTS ON THE DASH. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND NOT THE LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF AND THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS CONSTANTLY MAKING NOISE AND RUNNING. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE FOR AN INSPECTION AT THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE, SO AS IT TURNS OUT THE PART IS FAILING AND THE BRAKES MIGHT NOT WORK AT ANY GIVEN POINT. TOYOTA WANTS $2,000+ TO FIX THIS ISSUE WHEN IT SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LONG SUSTAINED HIGH-PITCHED ELECTRONIC BEEP. THE LIGHTS FOR THE PARKING BRAKE, ABS, AND ANOTHER LIGHT I'M UNFAMILIAR WITH WERE ON. WHEN I PUMPED ON THE BRAKES, THEY FELT UNRESPONSIVE. I TRIED AGAIN BUT KEEPING DOWN ON THE BRAKE AND IT WAS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND. I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. AT SLOWER SPEEDS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BRAKES TO WORK, BUT SLOWING DOWN EVEN FROM LESS THAN 20 MPH TOOK SEVERAL YARDS. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY, BUT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN DECEMBER 2017. AS THE OWNER OF THE CAR, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS KNOWN ISSUE, AND NOT TOLD ABOUT THE WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD BEEN TAKING MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR SCHEDULED SERVICE. THE PART ITSELF IS OVER $2000, BEFORE LABOR, WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. SO I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS. AND I NEARLY DIED DRIVING WITH A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD HAVE WARRANTED A FULL SAFETY RECALL.
IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION ON 08/08/2018, MY '07 TOYOTA PRIUS 2 FAILED TO STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP AND PARK INSTEAD IT ACCELERATED. DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT OF SEAFOOD CITY IN CERRITOS, CA, LOOKING FOR AN OPEN SPOT, I MAINTAINED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP A SAFE SPEED. APPROACHING AN OPEN SPOT, I CONTINUED TO KEEP PRESSING THE BRAKE WHILE ENTERING THE SPACE. AS I WAS STRAIGHTENING MY STEERING WHEEL AND APPLYING A HARDER BRAKE TO STOP, I FELT THE CAR ACCELERATE FORWARD, CAUSING MY INSTINCTIVE REACTION TO APPLY EVEN MORE BRAKING PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD UNCONTROLLABLY, JUMPING THE CURB OF AN ISLAND, HITTING AND KNOCKING OVER A PALM TREE (APPROXIMATELY 15' TALL) ONTO A PARKED VEHICLE (CAR #2) TO THE IMMEDIATE LEFT OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME (CAR #1). MY VEHICLE DROVE UP THE TREE AND CAME TO A SHORT REST ON TOP OF THE HOOD OF CAR #1, WHERE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME. IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING, AND REALIZING THAT I WAS STILL APPLYING A HARD BRAKE, TRYING TO GAIN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS DOWN THE TREE AND OFF OF THE HOOD OF CAR #1. THE CAR DIDN'T STOP ROLLING BACKWARD DESPITE MY FOOT WAS PRESSING HARD ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS THE COUSIN OF THE OWNER OF CAR #2 WHO REACHED AND PRESSED THE STOP WHERE THAT'S THE ONLY TIME MY CAR STOPPED ROLLING AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WAS THE WORST FEELING AS I WAS NOT IN CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE BRAKE DIDN'T WORK. I WAS SO SHAKEN, ME AND MY HUSBAND WERE DISCUSSING WHAT TO DO. WE IMMEDIATE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED, THEY GAVE US THE CORPORATE INSTEAD. THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE WAS INDORMED BUT WE BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING THIS CASE SERIOUSLY. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN ALL OF MY LIGHTS WENT OUT. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD AND COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING AND DECIDE TO JUST PULL OFF THE ROAD AND HOPE NOT TO HIT ANYTHING BECAUSE I JUST WANTED TO GET OFF THE ROAD BEFORE I GOT HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR. AFTER I GOT OFF THE ROAD FOR AWHILE I TRIED THE LIGHTS AND THEY BOTH WORKED. I TOOK MY PRIUS TO A STATE COLLEGE, PA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED ME $450.00 BECAUSE THEY SAID BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. THE NEXT DAY AFTER I PICKED MY PRIUS FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I WENT TO A GROCERY STORE AFTER WORK AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND THE WHOLE DASHBOARD WAS BLACK.. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SAID THEY MUST HAVE CREATED A SHORT IN MY CAR AND THEY SAID BRING IT BACK IN. THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD ME THE WHOLE CLUSTER SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS THE DASHBOARD WAS BAD AND THEY WOULD BE CHARGING ANOTHER $680.00.
LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT CONSISTENTLY FLICKERS OUT 5-10 MINUTES AFTER BEING TURNED ON. CAN SOMETIMES BE REIGNITED BY TOGGLING LIGHTS, BUT THEN TURNS OFF AGAIN.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING ROUGHLY 40-35 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BREAKS. I COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, WE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING MY FACE TO SLAM AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL. LEADING TO FACIAL AND TEETH INJURIES. MY CAR FRAME WAS BENT, IT IS TOTALED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
I TOOK THE 2007 PRIUS TO THE MECHANIC AND HE NEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS RIGHT AWAY.THE BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS FAILING AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER THREE THOUSAND TO FIX.HE SAID THAT YOU MAY LOOSE THE BRAKES IF IT FAILS TOTALLY AND ADVISED ME TO SELL THE CAR .TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THERE 2ND GEN PRIUS.THE FORUMS I HAVE READ TELL ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN TOTAL FAILURES IN MANY PRIUS.I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD BEAR THE COST AND BE LIABLE FOR THIS ISSUE. ABS ACTUATOR BROKE WHILE MAKING A LOW SPEED TURN (ABOUT 10MPH). THE CAR MADE AN ALARM SOUND, ALL THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT ON, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE CAR BECAME SLUGGISH AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. RESTARTING THE CAR MADE IT DRIVABLE AGAIN, BUT I NO LONGER HAVE ABS BRAKES, ONLY STANDARD. THIS PART IS APPARENTLY WORTH MORE THAN THE CAR TO REPLACE, YET IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
BRAKE, VCS,ABS AND (!) LIGHTS CAME ON. OTHER PRIUS OWNERS SAID PRIUS WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS UNTIL DEC 31 2017. ABS MODULE WENT BAD. LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN STARTED CAR. NEVER GOT NOTICE THAT THIS WAS COVERED, OTHERS SAY NHTSA SHOULD MAKE TOYOTA EXTEND COVERAGE.
DASH BOARD GOES BLACK! NO INSTRUMENTATION. TOYOTA STATES THERE WAS A RECALL AND I DID NOT RESPOND. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE EMAILS DATING BACK FROM 2014.
WHILE DRIVING AND IN MOTION, WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF. BROUGHT TO DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR. TOYOTA HAD AN EXTENDED HIDDEN WARRANTY ON THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND DIDN'T TELL THE CONSUMER. THE CAR HAD BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS. THE DEALER NEVER CHECKED IT DESPITE IT MAKING NOISE. THE ACTUATOR FAILED MAKING THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY BUT TOYOTA SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED LAST DECEMBER. I ESCALATED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT DESPITE THIS KNOWN DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THEIR CAR.
THE AUTOMATIC BRAKES ON THE CAR CEASED WORKING. IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE BRAKES WOULD WORK AGAIN FOR A LITTLE WHILE BEFORE HAVING TO STOP AND START AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT A 1/2 MILE EACH TIME BEFORE STOPPING TO TURN OFF AND ON. THE CAR WAS TRAVELING DOWN A TWO-LANE HIGHWAY WITHOUT A SHOULDER AND THEN ON CITY STREETS. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT A BRAKE ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, BECAUSE THE WARRANT EXPIRED ON DECEMBER 31, 2017, AND I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW, THE ISSUE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL WARRANTY. I'VE NOW GOT A USELESS CAR, WHICH WOULD COST OVER $2000 TO REPAIR. BECAUSE THE BRAKES STILL WORK SOMETIMES, THE ACTUATOR HAS NOT FULLY GONE OUT YET, BUT THE CAR IS BASICALLY UN-DRIVEABLE. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MOREOVER, BECAUSE I WAS NOT HAVING THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW, IT'S UNLIKELY THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD'VE COVERED ME IN THE FIRST PLACE.
HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. GENERALLY ONE AT A TIME, NORMALLY THE DRIVERS SIDE BUT SOMETIMES IT IS BOTH HEADLIGHTS. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME I DRIVE WITH MY HEADLIGHTS ON. I DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON AT A MINIMUM OF 6 DAYS A WEEK BECAUSE OF WORK OR SCHOOL.
BRAKE ACTUATOR IS FAILING, AND I AM OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. VERY EXPENSIVE FIX AND VERY DANGEROUS TO KEEP DRIVING LIKE THIS.
I WAS BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES FAILED AND MY VEHICLE CLIMBED THE CURB, CROSSED THE SIDE WALK, AND CRASH INTO A METAL FENCE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SIDE WALK. THE FENCE STOPPED THE VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR REPAIRED AND A BODY SHOP, I BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CAR'S BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD FAILED, LEADING TO A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CRASH.
WE HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WILL NOT SHUT OFF. IT HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENTAND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS. IT DRIVES FINE, I'M JUST WORRIED THAT SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS.
