MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLAMPS GO OUT INTERMITTENTLY. I CAN TURN THEM OFF AND ON...THEN THEY WORK. ONE OF THE HEADLAMPS WAS REPLACED...THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD COST $300 PER LAMP TO REPLACE. THIS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. *TR

RELEASE BUTTON FOR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK HAS DEFECTIVE RUBBER, WHICH DETERIORATES PREMATURELY AND LEAKS HYDRAULIC FLUID USED TO ACTUATE THE DOOR RELEASE. AFTER A WHILE, DOOR WILL NOT OPEN, AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF RELEASE MECHANISM. *TR
I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE BRAKING PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE VSA ICON IN THE TOYOTA PRIUS IS NOT ISOLATED TO THE 2010 MODEL YEAR. MY 2007 PRIUS DOES EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE SEEN DESCRIBED IN THE MEDIA. IT HAS DONE THIS EVER SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW. I HAD NEVER DRIVEN A HYBRID BEFORE, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST. BUT IT IS VERY UNSETTLING WHEN THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD WHEN I DRIVE ON A ROAD WITH AN UNEVEN SURFACE. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HID HEADLIGHT FAILURE. PASSENGER SIDE IS INTERMITTENT,, QUITE OFTEN BOTH LIGHTS WILL FAIL LEAVING NO LIGHTS AND A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DRIVER HAS NO WARNING THAT HEADLIGHTS ARE OFF , ESPECIALLY DURING POOR WEATHER,, BUT DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS. JUST AFTER WARRANTY PERIOD ENDED. DEALER SUGGESTS BULBS,, OTHERS SUGGEST CONTROLLER. NEW (EXPENSIVE) BULBS ARE PROBABLY ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX,, LEADING TO CONTINUED FUTURE FAILURES. *TR
I'VE COMPLAINED -- WITH NO RESPONSE OR HELP -- TO A TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT 2 CONCERNS I HAVE WITH MY 2007 PRIUS THAT I'VE ALWAYS BELIEVED WERE MANUFACTURER/DESIGN DEFECTS: 1) THE BRAKES SKIP WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE, ESPECIALLY THE ONE I TRAVERSE EVERY WEEKDAY TURNING INTO MY WORKSITE. 2) DURING HARD ACCELERATION EARLY IN A DRIVE (THE UPHILL LEFT TURN LEAVING MY NEIGHBORHOOD), THERE IS A HESITATION FOR ABOUT A SECOND OR TWO -- LIKE THE ENGINE IS GOING TO STALL AND DIE (IT HASN'T YET.) WHEN I 'FLOOR IT" TO MOVE INTO A HOLE IN TRAFFIC, I GET FULL POWER FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, FOLLOWED BY NO POWER FOR A SECOND AND THEN A RETURN OF POWER. IT'S AS IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, ONLY IT HASN'T MOVED. MY FEAR IS THAT SOME TIME THE DELAY WILL CAUSE ME TO GET HIT AND THAT SOME TIME THE ENGINE WILL JUST DIE. I'VE NOTICED THIS FROM WHEN THE CAR WAS WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OLD (I TOOK DELIVERY 4/30/07). STEVINSON TOYOTA (GOLDEN, CO) SAID THEY HADN'T HEARD OF SUCH COMPLAINTS. WHEN I TOOK IT IN ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEMS AND DID NOTHING. *TR
TOYOTA SOLD ME A BRAND NEW PRIUS WITH A HEADLAMP NOT WORKING. AFTER I SIGNED ALL THE PURCHASE PAPERS, THEY POINTED OUT THAT THE RIGHT HEADLAMP WAS NOT WORKING AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ALRIGHT TO DRIVE HOME AND RETURN THE NEXT DAYS FOR REPAIR. AFTER FOUR OR FIVE TRIPS TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE CONTROL UNIT. AT A LATER DATE WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 50,000 MILES, I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY FROM LOS ANGELES TO MENIFEE, CA, AT NIGHT IN THE HOV LANE. I SEEMED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY SEEING THE ROAD AND THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY EYES. SO I SWITCHED LANES TO THE SLOW LANE WHERE, WITH LESS GLARE FROM THE ONCOMING CARS, I REALIZED THAT BOTH HEADLAMPS WERE NOT WORKING. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGH SPEED CROWDED FREEWAY, SO I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AT THE NEXT EXIT. TOYOTA REPLACED THE HEADLAMPS, AND I WAS COMPENSATED FOR THE COST OF REPAIR UPON THE OUTCOME OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT THE HEADLAMPS WERE FAILING AGAIN AT AROUND 115,000 MILES. IMMEDIATELY I HAD TOYOTA REPAIR BOTH HEADLAMPS, AS I DIDN'T WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE HAZARD OF BOTH HEADLAMPS FAILING AGAIN. FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, THERE IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW IN THE PRIUS THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED ESPECIALLY BEFORE BOTH HEADLAMPS FAIL AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED THE NEXT TIME THE HEADLAMPS FAIL I WILL HAVE NO ADVANCED SYMPTOMS AND BOTH MIGHT FAIL AGAIN SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE I'M ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT. *TR
ONE HEADLIGHT INTERMITTENTLY BUT FREQUENTLY FAILS; TURNING THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON WILL TEMPORARILY CURE THE PROBLEM. THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER STATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT INTEGRATED WITH THE HEADLAMP IS PROBABLY AT FAULT. SINCE THE FRONT BUMPER HAS TO BE REMOVED TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHTS, THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR PROCEDURE. *TR
TEMPORARY BRAKE LOSS WHEN HITTING BUMP OR POTHOLE. *TR
FROM THE BEGINNING, MY 2007 PRIUS (PURCHASED 5/19/07) HAS CONSISTENTLY LOST BRAKING POWER BRIEFLY IF I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AS I AM BRAKING, AT LOW SPEED, FOR A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT. I UNDERSTAND THIS TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE TRANSITION FROM REGENERATIVE TO HYDRAULIC BRAKING. MY TOYOTA DEALER, IN MAY 2008, COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD BECOME ABNORMALLY DIM BEFORE FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO REPEATEDLY SWITCH THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF BEFORE OPERATING AS NORMAL. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 1 MPH, THE CD TRACK MENU WILL NOT DISPLAY, HOWEVER, THE DISC CHANGER COULD BE LOADED AND RADIO CHANNELS COULD BE ADJUSTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VISIBILITY OF THE MENU WAS HIDDEN BECAUSE NHTSA STATED THAT VIEWING THE MENU WHILE DRIVING WAS A SAFETY RISK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12. TRAVELING SLOW SPEED 25-35 APPLY BRAKES AND HIT A DIP IN THE ROAD OR BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE CAR QUICKLY LUNGES FORWARD. I DON'T FEEL LIKE I NECESSARILY LOSE THE BRAKE BUT THAT THE CAR JUST LUNGES FORWARD. I THOUGHT I REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA SOON AFTER GETTING THE CAR BUT I CHECKED MY RECORDS AND I REPORTED IT TWICE LAST YEAR AFTER MY HUSBAND CONFIRMED THAT IT HAPPENED TO HIM. TOYOTA CHECKED THE BRAKES AND SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY AND THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR

I'VE OWNED A 2007 PRIUS SINCE IT WAS NEW AND THE PROBLEM THAT I SEE WRITTEN ABOUT FOR THE 2010 MODEL, MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKES WHEN HITTING A POTHOLE OR ROUGH ROAD, IS EXACTLY WHAT I FEEL IN MY 2007 AND HAVE SEEN REPORTED BY OTHER DRIVERS FOR VARIOUS YEAR PRIUS'S. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT A 2010 PROBLEM ONLY!!! THIS SYMPTOM HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. *TR
IF YOU DRIVE OVER A MANHOLE OR POTHOLE WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, THE BRAKES WON'T WORK AND THE LITTLE ANTI-SKID LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD GOES ON. YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER YOU PASS OVER THE POTHOLE BEFORE YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. SOMETIMES NOT POSSIBLE TO DO THIS IF YOU NEED TO STOP IN A HURRY. CONTACTED MY TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT THIS IN JULY 2007 AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL. "JUST DON'T USE THE BRAKES UNTIL AFTER YOU PASS THE POTHOLE." WAS WHAT I WAS TOLD. *TR
2007 PRIUS WAS "T-BONED" ON THE DRIVER SIDE. OTHER CAR (HONDA) WAS GOING ~40 MPH, AND PRIUS WAS GOING ~25 MPH. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE PRIUS, BUT DID IN THE HONDA. DRIVER OF PRIUS HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF CAR AND SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. MEDICS ON THE SCENE WERE SURPRISED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE PRIUS. SINCE THE PRIUS WAS TOTALED, THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DAMAGED. THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE RECURRED 3 MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, TOYOTA ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46390.
INDICATOR LIGHTS FLASHED. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP STAYED ON. AT 2,644 MILES, 12 V. BATTERY DEAD & REPLACED. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP THE GAS TANK HALF OR A QUARTER FULL OR THE RESERVE GAS TANK WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO RUN ON BATTERY. THE BATTERY MIGHT HAVE DIED BECAUSE THE CAR SAT TOO LONG BEFORE IT WAS SOLD/AT 8,879 MILES, I WENT IN. AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK & TAKING OUT THE NOZZLE, GAS SPEWED & BUBBLED OUT. THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY & WHILE IN PARK. INDICATOR LIGHTS FLASHED. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP AND MASTER WARNING LIGHTS STAYED ON. IT TOOK 5 MIN. TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I STARTED THE CAR. THOSE LIGHTS STAYED ON. I WAS TOLD I LEFT THE "TRUNK DOOR" OPEN & RAN DOWN THE BATTERY. (NOT TRUE.) THERE IS A GASKET AROUND THE ACCESS HOLE AND IF A PERSON "IS A LITTLE BIT OFF," THE GAS WILL REGURGITATE. (I WAS NOT " OFF" & DID NOT TOP OFF THE TANK.) THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. THE GAS TANK HAD NOT BEEN FILLED SO I KNEW THEY DID NOT FILL THE GAS TANK AND TRY TO RECREATE THE SITUATION AS THEY SAID THEY WOULD. I BOUGHT GAS AT A DIFFERENT PUMP. I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. I COULD FEEL A LOSS OF POWER IN THE CAR. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON 3 TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD MOVE. IT CREPT SLOWLY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AS THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURNED RED. I TOOK THE CAR IN AT 8,936 MILES. I WAS TOLD IF MY PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BATTERY THAT WAS TAKEN OUT OF MY CAR, IT IS NOT AT REPAIR PERSON'S RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE HE DID NOT TOUCH MY BATTERY. WHEN A BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME, IF SOMETHING IS NOT RESET, IT COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS. THEN, HE SAID NO TROUBLE FOUND/MY CAR STALLED AND/OR HAD A LOSS OF POWER. I TOOK IT IN AT 9,014 MILES. NO TROUBLE FOUND. I WAS TOLD THAT MY PROBLEMS COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A FAULTY GAS PUMP OVERFILLING MY TANK. THE GAS STATION IS NEW. THE MANAGER SAID THE PUMPS WERE INSPECTED. IF THERE WERE A FAULTY PUMP, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE SLOWING DOWN AT 25 MPH OVER A BUMP OR ROUGH SURFACE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND SURGE. SHE WOULD LOSE CONTROL FOR A BRIEF SECOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BEHAVIOR WAS NORMAL WITH THE BRAKES AND DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. HE TRIED TO PUT GAS IN VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT HE COULDN'T FIT THE GAS NOZZLE DOWN INTO THE OPENING, STOPPING THREE INCHES SHORT. WHEN HE DID TRY TO PUT THE GAS INTO THE VEHICLE THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON THE GAS NOZZLE DIDN'T WORK ON THE PRIUS. THERE WAS SPILLAGE WHEN THIS HAPPENED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS USING DIFFERENT GAS COMPANIES. HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY HAD ONE OF THEIR DEPARTMENT MANAGERS,GO ON A TEST DRIVE WITH THE CONTACT, AND HE NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE GAS NOZZLE DIDN'T FIT INTO THE GAS TANK. HE FOUND IN THE DOOR PANEL OF THE GAS TANK THE INSTRUCTIONS AFFECTING THE GAS NOZZLE MUST BE COMPLETELY INSERTED SO THAT SPILLAGE DIDN'T OCCUR. HE SPOKE TO TOYOTA MANUFACTURER, AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE, AND WAS GIVEN CASE NUMBER 200704181013, AND THEY DIRECTED HIM TO SPEAK TO NHTSA. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE COULDN'T BE ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE IT WAS A DESIGN ISSUE. WITH 600 MILES. *AK
DRIVER WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD, ACCELERATED AND TURNED LEFT TO PULL INTO A COMMERCIAL PARKING LOT, THEN APPLIED BRAKES WHEN THE FRONT TIRES LEFT THE ROAD AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE PARKING LOT ENTRANCE (SLIGHT CONCRETE CURB BETWEEN ASPHALT ROAD AND LOT). THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED FULLY WITH LITTLE RESISTANCE, AND NEITHER THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM NOR THE BRAKE PADS WERE ACTIVATED. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TWO SECONDS, THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM APPLIED, BRAKING THE CAR NORMALLY. NO VISIBLE INDICATORS WERE NOTICED ON THE DASHBOARD. *TR
CAUSE: FLAT TIRE IN THE FRONT LEFT OR FRONT RIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT LEFT DEMONSTRATING THE MOST SEVERE HAZARD FAILURE: THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGES REGULARLY DUE TO A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE SPARE AND NORMAL TIRE SIZE. TRACTION CONTROL CUTS POWER TO THE DRIVE WHEELS AND CANNOT BE OVERRIDDEN, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE SPEED IN NON-DETERMINISTIC MANNER. VEHICLE IS NOT RESPONSIVE. CONDITION IS WORST DURING THE FIRST 40 MILES DRIVEN ON THE SPARE TIRE BUT CONSEQUENTLY IMPROVES DUE TO LEARNING INSIDE THE CAR COMPUTER. UNFORTUNATELY, VEHICLE IS MOST DANGEROUS WHEN THE DRIVER HAS THE LEAST CONTROL OVER THE SITUATION. CORRECTION: NONE, THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND HAVE EXPERIENCED OCCASIONAL MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING (MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL) WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMPY SURFACE. WHILE BRAKING OVER SMALL POT HOLES, RAILROAD TRACKS, ROUGH PATCHES, ETC., THE CAR SEEMS TO LUNGE FORWARD APPARENTLY AS THE BRAKES RELEASE FOR A SPLIT SECOND (APPROXIMATELY 1/4 TO 1/2 SECOND). THE ROAD CONDITIONS CAN BE WET OR DRY. AT THE SAME TIME, MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL FLASH ON AND OFF UNTIL THE ROAD SMOOTHES OUT. THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING, SO INCIDENT DATE BELOW IS MEANINGLESS. *TR
OEM TIRE BLOWOUT ON A 2007 PRIUS TOURING EDITION PURCHASED APPROXIMATELY BEFORE 11 /06 PURCHASED NEW FROM A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THE FLEXIBLE GAS TANK ON THE PRIUS OFTEN FAILS TO FILL UP ALL OF THE WAY TO FULL. IN COLD WEATHER THE TANK OFTEN FILLS ONLY 8 GALLONS(WHEN COMPLETELY EMPTY) AND SOMETIMES CLICKS OFF AT 3 GALLONS OR LESS AND KEEPS CLICKING OFF UNTIL MORE GAS IS FORCED INTO THE TANK. THE PRIUS WAS BROUGHT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY LOOKED INTO THE TANK ISSUE AND FOUND NOTHING. THERE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO FILL UP ON THE SLOWEST LEVEL AND TO TILT THE GAS NOZZLE TO SIDE OR UPSIDE DOWN TO FORCE MORE GAS INTO THE TANK. THIS DID NOT RECTIFY THE SITUATION AND THE DEALER COULD NOT OFFER ANY FURTHER REMEDY. THE DEALER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER TO FIX THE SITUATION. *TR
PRIUS BRAKING BEHAVIOR I OWNED A NEW 2007 PRIUS WHICH I LEASED AND DROVE FOR THE FIRST 2 YEARS OF THE LEASE AND THEN TRADED FOR A VEHICLE WITH A LARGER INTERIOR. THIS VEHICLE WAS LEASED IN FEBRUARY 2007 DURING THE PRESIDENT'S DAY SALE AT KARL MALONE TOYOTA IN ALBUQUERQUE. THIS VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY "PAUSED" BRAKING FOR MOST OF A SECOND WHEN ONE OF THE FRONT WHEELS PASSED THRU A SMALL POTHOLE ON PAVED ROADS. IT MAY HAVE ALSO HAD THIS BEHAVIOR IN OTHER SITUATIONS, BUT I DIDN'T ENCOUNTER ANY OTHER CASES. I EXPECTED MORE BRAKING MISBEHAVIOR WHEN ALBUQUERQUE INSTALLED SOME REDLIGHT CAMERAS BECAUSE THEY ALSO INSTALLED WARNING STRIPS IN THE PAVEMENT APPROACHING THESE INTERSECTIONS. IN SOME CASES THEY DIDN'T INSTALL STRIPS IN THE FOUR GROOVES CUT IN THE PAVEMENT PERPENDICULAR TO VEHICLE TRAVEL, BUT NEITHER THE GROOVES OR THE STRIPS BOTHERED MY PRIUS DURING BRAKING. MAYBE THAT WAS BECAUSE BOTH WHEELS SAW THE SAME TRANSIENTS. I DIDN'T REPORT THIS TO THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER/GOVERNMENT BECAUSE I CHALKED IT UP TO MORE NONSENSE FROM MODERN ANTI-LOCKING BRAKING SYSTEMS, AND BECAUSE THE BEHAVIOR WAS CONSISTENT/PREDICTABLE AND MOST ANTI-LOCKING SYSTEMS ANNOY ME WITH THEIR BEHAVIOR. WE'VE CONTINUE TO "IMPROVE" ANTI-LOCKING BRAKE SYSTEMS, BUT DIMINISHING MARGINAL RETURNS HAS CAUSED THE IMPROVEMENTS TO ACTUALLY REDUCE THE VALUE OF THESE BRAKING SYSTEMS TO DRIVERS. FOR EXAMPLE, BRAKING DISTANCES IN TYPICAL (I.E. MOST) CONDITIONS ARE LENGTHENED BY THE PREVENTABLE. OVERLY CAUTIOUS ACTIONS OF THESE SYSTEMS. MORE PROBLEMATIC, THESE BRAKING SYSTEMS DO NOT DELIVER THE PERFORMANCE IN URGENT SITUATIONS WHICH THEY SEEM TO PROMISE IN DAY-TO-DAY DRIVING. EVEN BRAKING FOR AN UNEXPECTED YELLOW LIGHT CAN SURPRISE THE DRIVER WITH A FIRMER THAN USUAL PEDAL WHICH THEN REQUIRES MORE EFFORT THAN EXPECTED TO GET THE DESIRED URGENT BRAKING. THE NEEDED BRAKING IS ULTIMATELY AVAILABLE, BUT IT ENDS UP COMING TOO LATE BECAUSE THE DRIVER HAD TO ADJUST HIS ACTIONS. *TR

HE STATED THAT THE TIRES LOCK UP ONE BY ONE, WHICH TAKES ALL CONTROL OF STOPPING THE VEHICLE OUT OF HIS HANDS, AS OPPOSED TO PUMPING THE BRAKES AND MAINTAINING SOME CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE ABS IS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE SHAKES, BUCKS, WIGGLES, JERKS, AND MAKES A LOT OF NOISE. THE CONTACT DID NOT WANT TO PROVIDE ANY VEHICLE INFORMATION OTHER THAN THE YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, AND MILEAGE INFORMATION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

THE DRIVER THOUGHT THAT THE BULB CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO SHUT OFF; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A CHIP IN THE COMPUTER. THE HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON RAPIDLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS AND FAILED AGAIN WITHIN 15 MINUTES. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOR SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2007. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO FIND INSTRUCTIONS ON REPLACING THE BULBS AND FOUND VIA THE INTERNET THAT THE COMPUTER CHIP CAUSED THE FAILURE INSTEAD OF THE BULBS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE FOR $90. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THEY DO NOT NEED THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND HAS REQUESTED THAT THE DEALER MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIR. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 57,000.
DRIVERSIDE FRONT HEADLIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WENT OUT. TOOK MY AUTOMOBILE TO ORIGINAL DEALER ON MARCH 9, 2010 AND IT WAS REPLACED. DURING MY CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR, HE INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT MIGHT EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. HE WAS CORRECT. ON MARCH 10, 2007 THE PASSENGER SIDE BEGAN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN NHTSA -PE09019. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND OTHERS WHO WILL BE AFFECTED. IN ADDITION I HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THIS REPLACEMENT WILL NOT BE REQUIRED OVER AND OVER AT A VERY HIGH DOLLAR COST. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR

TODAY A FACTORY TECHNICIAN GOT UNACHIEVABLE RESULTS SUGGESTING THAT OUR REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE AFTER 29,000 MILES WITH THE VEHICLE IS NORMAL. HE CLAIMED TO HAVE GOTTEN 66.984 MPG AFTER A 42.2 MILES OF 55 MPH HIGHWAY AND "IN TOWN" DRIVING, NOTING ONLY THAT AN OUT OF FUEL FAULT HAD NEVER BEEN CLEARED. *TR

I OWN A 2007 PRIUS. IT EXPERIENCES A LAPSE IN BRAKING POWER WHEN ON UNEVEN TERRAIN (IE A POTHOLE OR RAILROAD TRACKS). THIS HAS OCCURED NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE DRIVEN ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN EARLY 2007. THE CONSEQUENCE IS A MOMENTARY SURGE IN THE VEHICLE SPEED DURING TIMES THAT I AM ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN-IT IS A FRIGHTENING SITUATION THAT MAKES ONE'S HEART JUMP EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS. I HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE TO MY DEALERSHIP-THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THAT THEY WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE ANTICIPATED 2010 MODEL RECALL. EVER SINCE I OWNED MY PRIUS IF I HAPPENED TO BRAKE ON UNEVEN SURFACES NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED THE BRAKES SEEM TO RELEASE AND THEN START BRAKING AGAIN. COMPLAINT IS IN REGARD TO THE TOYOTA PRIUS NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM. IT HAS A GPS SYSTEM, BUT ENTRIES ARE BLOCKED UNLESS THE CAR IS STATIONARY. I DRIVE OUR NATION'S MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO MAKE AN ENTRY (NEAREST RESTAURANT, HOTEL, TOURIST ATTRACTION, ETC.). AN OFFICER PULLED OVER AND SAID THAT MY CONSTANT PULLING OVER IS CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. I'VE SEEN OTHER CARS PULLING OVER AND STOPPED TO TALK TO THEM AND THEY ARE ALSO TRYING TO ENTER SOMETHING IN A TOYOTA VEHICLE GPS. I AGREE THAT BLOCKING THE DRIVING FROM ENTERING INTO THE GPS IS A PRUDENT SAFETY FEATURE. BUT IN ALL THE CASES I DESCRIBED, IT WAS THE PASSENGER WHO WAS DOING THE NAVIGATION. I'VE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO CUT INTO THE WIRING OF THE CAR OR CHANGE IT'S PROGRAM BY HACKING INTO THE SERVICE SCREENS. ALL OF THESE CREATE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARDS. TOYOTA IS THE ONLY AUTO MANUFACTURER WHO FORCES THE CUSTOMER TO HAVE A STATIONARY CAR, LEADING TO ALL THESE PROBLEMS. I SUGGEST THAT THIS SAFETY BLOCK PROVIDES A WAY FOR CUSTOMERS TO BYPASS IT TO AVOID THESE PROBLEMS I AM SEEING. THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM AFFECTING MORE AND MORE CARS. FIRST, I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM IN DECEMBER 2006. SINCE THEN, IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ONCE IN A WAY. THE AVERAGE FREQUENCY CAN BE 3-5 TIMES A MONTH, AND IT COULD BE MORE BASED ON THE HIGHWAY USAGE. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE RAMIFICATIONS UNTIL THE RECENT RECALL NOTICE. I WANTED TO SEND THIS INFORMATION IN SEPTEMBER WHEN THE RECALL ON FLOOR MATS WAS ANNOUNCED. I AM MORE AND MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS UNPREDICTABLE SPEEDING ON ITS OWN WHICH COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AS IT HAPPENED WITH SEVERAL CRASHES REPORTED (TODAY, I SAW A NEWS SEGMENT ON THE NBC TV INVOLVING A PRIUS). A CREEPING FLOOR MAT CAN GET THE GAS PEDAL STUCK, BUT WOULD NOT CAUSE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. SUDDEN ACCELERATION MAY BE MORE SEVERE IN THE CASES OF CRASHES, WHILE MINE IS LESS SEVERE, AT LEAST THUS FAR. THE TRUNK HANDLE HAS MELTED - TURNING THE RUBBER INTO A STICKY GOO - AND ONE IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK. LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER REMOVED AND REPLACED THE REAR HATCH SWITCH AT THE COST OF $310.22..THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THIS REPAIR WAS NOT UNEXPECTED IN THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THE SCION HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND IS BEING REPAIRED BY TOYOTA AT THEIR EXPENSE. OTHER REPORTS ON THE WEB HIGHLIGHT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE PRIUS. REQUEST HAVE BEEN SENT TO TOYOTA TO COVER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO PAY FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR
TWO INSTANCES OF RUNAWAY ACCELERATION WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH I OWNED MY 2007 PRIUS (OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2006) POO POOED BY THE DEALER. SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT ANY SUCH PROBLEM. GOOGLED IT AND IT WAS ALL OVER THE NET EVEN THEN. STILL BLAMING IT ON THE FLOOR MATS WHICH THEY SOLD TO ME SPECIFICALLY FOR MY CAR THAT WERE INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASE PRICE. GLAD THIS IS NOW GETTING MEDIA ATTENTION. *TR
THIS EVENT HAS OCCURED ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN I AM APPLYING THE BRAKES AND GO OVER A BUMP OR POTHOLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT APPEARS AND THE BRAKES WEAKEN FOR A MOMENT. THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AND THE BREAKS FEEL LIKE THEY GO BACK TO FULL STRENGTH. I AM AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAVE MODIFIED MY DRIVING BECASUE OF IT. RECENTLY WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I HAD TO SLOW VERY QUICKLY AND HIT A POTHOLE WHILE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I TRAVELED SEVERAL FEET FURTHER BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT REACTING AT FULL STRENGTH WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER 2007 OWNERS COMPLAINING BUT WHEN I CONTACTED MY TOYOTA DEALER THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL. THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME I CONTACTED MY DEALER BECAUSE IT MADE ME SO UPSET. IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT FROM THE MOMENT I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR (WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK) TO CURRENT, IF I AM BREAKING AND HITTING A BUMP OR POTHOLE OF SIGNIFICANT DISRUPTANCE AT THE SAME TIME - THIS SITUATION REPLAYS ITSELF. THE DATE OF INCIDENT IS AROUND THE FIRST DATE OF THE FIRST OCCURANCE. IT HAS HAPPENED NEARLY 100+ TIMES SINCE THEN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RESPONDING NORMALLY FOR AN ELECTRICAL ENGINE. THE FAILURE CONTINUES TO OCCUR ON A MORE FREQUENT BASIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE BACKWARD SLOWLY. HE ALSO STATES THAT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND CONSEQUENTLY HIT A STOPPED CAR. *KB
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH HEADLIGHT FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT TOYOTA MECHANICS DO NOT TELL CONSUMERS ABOUT THESE ISSUES WHEN VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE LIFESPAN FOR THESE HEADLIGHTS IS SO SHORT. *KB
