TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EXTERIOR REAR HATCH HANDLE MELTED AND LEFT A MELTED RUBBER RESIDUE ON HER HANDS. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS DURING WARM WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,900.
MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT BEGAN FLICKERING AROUND 2-3 MONTHS AGO. I THEN PURCHASED 2 HID BULBS TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES AT 1X. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPLACEMENT A FEW WEEKS AGO, MY RIGHT LIGHT WOULD FLICKER THEN BOTH HEADLIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF. ID IMMEDIATELY HAVE TO TURN LIGHTS ON AND OFF THEN THEY WOULD COME BACK ON. THE LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON FOR ABOUT 45 SECONDS THEN FLICKER AND OFF AGAIN AND ID HAVE TO START THE CYCLE AGAIN. I TRAVEL 120 MILES A DAY AND THIS HAS LIMITED THE ABILITY TO USE THE VEHICLE SAFELY AND WITH PEACE OF MIND.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE DETAILS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FAILED TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF WITHOUT REMOVING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
ONE HEADLIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER AND THEN BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. TRIED TO TURN OFF AND BACK ON AND WENT ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN THEY WERE DONE. HAD TO DRIVE BACK IN THE DARK. WE WERE OUT OF STATE AND IT HAPPENED DURING THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY WEEKEND SO WE HAD TO CUT THE TRIP SHORT AND GET EXTRA HOTEL NIGHTS AS WE COULD NO LONGER TRAVEL AT NIGHT.
RIGHT HEADLIGHT FAILED. I HAD THIS HEADLIGHT REPLACED ABOUT 20K MILES AGO, ALONG WITH THE OTHER ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE PREVIOUS REPLACEMENT WAS DUE TO LIGHTS FLICKERING OFF WHILE DRIVING; A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION TO DEVELOP WHILE NIGHT DRIVING. INTERMITTENT LIGHTING CONTINUED UNTIL THE HEADLAMPS WERE REPLACED. NOW, 20K MILES LATER, THE HEADLAMPS ARE FAILING AGAIN. THIS IS NEITHER SAFE NOR CONSUMER FRIENDLY.
AFTER SPEEDING UP TO PASS ANOTHER CAR ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE (2 LANE COUNTRY ROAD), MY PRIUS CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I COULD NOT SLOW THE CAR DOWN TO THE SPEED LIMIT USING THE BRAKE PEDAL. FOR ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES, I KEPT TRYING TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PULL OVER WHERE I WOULDN'T HIT ANYTHING. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK & NO FLOOR MAT WAS TOUCHING EITHER PEDAL. THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP WAS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I THOUGHT THE CAR MIGHT EXPLODE, BUT LATER REALIZED THE SMOKE WAS POURING OUT FROM MY BRAKES. I MANEUVERED TO THE BERM OF A BRIDGE OVER A LAKE, JUST BEFORE THE ROAD WENT DOWN TO ONE LANE FOR CONSTRUCTION. THEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF. TEN MINUTES AFTER THIS ORDEAL (VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY), I RESTARTED THE CAR, BUT THE ENGINE BEGAN RACING AGAIN WITHOUT ANY TOUCH ON THE GAS PEDAL, SO I QUICKLY TURNED IT OFF. LUCKILY, I HADN'T COLLIDED WITH ANYTHING.
HEAD LAMPS RANDOMLY SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES IT IS ONE LIGHT AND OTHER TIMES IS IT BOTH LIGHTS. VERY DANGEROUS FOR MY PREGNANT WIFE TO BE ON THE ROAD AND HAVE THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF!
WHILE DRIVING UPHILL ON A CURVED, SHOULDER-LESS ROAD, MY CAR SPONTANEOUSLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, CAUSING IT TO LOSE ALL POWER AS WELL AS POWER BRAKE. I ATTEMPTED TO PHYSICALLY HOLD THE GEAR SHIFT IN "DRIVE", BUT THIS DID NOT BRING POWER BACK, NOR DID IT CHANGE THE LIGHT ON THE DASH FROM "NEUTRAL". AT FIRST THE CAR WOULD SHIFT INTO REVERSE, AND I WAS ABLE TO BACK INTO A WIDER PART OF THE ROAD. IT THEN STOPPED SHIFTING INTO ANY GEAR. I ENDED UP HAVING THE CAR TOWED HOME IN NEUTRAL, WITH POOR (NON-POWER) BRAKING. I'VE SINCE DONE A GOOGLE SEARCH AND SEE THAT THIS IS A RECURRENT PROBLEM WITH 200-SOMETHING PRIUSES, BASED ON CONSUMER AFFAIRS, TOYOTA NATION, PRIUS ONLINE, AND CAR PROBLEM ZOO.
INITIALLY I FELT LIKE IT ACCELERATED LITTLEBIT AS I BRAKE BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP.
ON TUESDAY, MAY 26, 2015 AT 5:04 PM WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 57 MPH SOUTH ON HI WAY 101 AT ABOUT THE MILE POST 255.5, MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY CHANGE IN STEERING BY ME, VEERED TO THE RIGHT OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE GUARDRAIL. THERE SEEMED TO BE NO REACTION TO MY FRANTIC STEERING AND BRAKING IN THE ATTEMPT TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE ROAD. AFTER THE CAR HIT THE GUARDRAIL IT TRAVELED ABOUT 15 FEET SPUN BACK OUT INTO THE SOUTHBOUND LANE AND WAS HIT ON THE REAR RIGHT SIDE BY A CAR TRAVELING IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANE. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO BE PROPELLED ACROSS 2 NORTHBOUND LANES OF TRAFFIC AND COME TO REST WITH REAR OF MY CAR EMBEDDED INTO THE FAR SIDE GUARDRAIL. MIRACULOUSLY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND MY 61 YEAR PERFECT DRIVING RECORD WAS RUINED. MY CAR WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY...UPDATED 08/27/15 *BF UPDATE 9/15/15*CW*DT *CN UPDATED 4/21/20*JB
ON MAY 16, 2015, WHILE DRIVING MY SECOND-GENERATION 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS ON THE FREEWAY, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, ALONG WITH THE ILLUMINATION ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT, MASTER WARNING LIGHT AND HYBRID WARNING LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SUMMON EMERGENCY HELP. A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE HYBRID INVERTER WATER PUMP, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT ADVISE ME OF A SAFETY RECALL. TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER TODAY STATED THAT THE ORIGINAL HYBRID INVERTER WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED ON APRIL 7, 2011, UNDER TOYOTA LIMITED SERVICE NOTICE A0N; HENCE, TOYOTA REFUSED MY PHONE REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF MY MAY, 2015, REPAIR EXPENSE. THE 2011 "A0N" REPLACEMENT PUMP APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED BY THE SAME FAILURE MECHANISM LEADING TO RECALL CAMPAIGN "C0U", WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM THE A0N FAILURE MECHANISM.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE CONTINUE TO FAIL, DAY IN AND DAY OUT. NOW BOTH HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF AND WON'T STAY ON FOR LONGER THAN A MINUTE.
THE VEHICLE MILEAGE GIVEN IS APPROXIMATE. THE PASSENGER ESTIMATES THE SPEED AT ABOUT CITY STREET SPEEDS AT TIME OF ACCIDENT SINCE THE CAR WAS SLOWED TO GET ON THE SHOULDER. THE ACCIDENT IS COMPLICATED BECAUSE THE DRIVER CAN'T REMEMBER MUCH OF WHAT HAPPENED BEYOND SHE WAS PULLING OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO CHANGE DRIVERS OR REST, BUT THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER WAS ABRUPTLY WOKEN UP FROM A SCHEDULED NAP BY WHAT SEEMED TO HIM LIKE A POTHOLE OR PERHAPS AN ABRUPT EDGE TO THE ROAD FOLLOWED QUICKLY BY A ROUGH RIDE. WHEN HE OPENED HIS EYES HE SAW THE CAR ON THE WILD CLUMPS OF GRASS LIKE VEGETATION ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE REFLECTOR STAKE LINE AND AN ODD SHOULDER THAT WAS ONLY PARTIALLY CEMENT OR PAVEMENT WITH A SUBSTANTIAL GAP BETWEEN THE SIDE REFLECTORS AND HARD SURFACE. THIS WAS SEMI-CONFIRMED WHEN REENTERING WYOMING WITH HIS OLDEST SON DRIVING AND SEEING SIMILAR PARTIAL SHOULDERS, BUT THE SON WAS UNWILLING TO DRIVE FARTHER TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE. THE PASSENGER'S BELIEVES THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO GO OFF THE SHOULDER, IN PART BECAUSE OF A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A GEO PRIUS LSI ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ON ICE THAT CAUSED WHAT WOULD HAVE NOT OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT VEHICLE DAMAGE. THE ALTERNATIVE EXPLANATION IS A DEFECT OR DEBRIS ON THE SHOULDER ITSELF. THE DRIVER TRIED TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING THE SLIGHT CONTOUR DOWN OF THE SHOULDER OUTSIDE RIGHT OF WAY AND THAT OR TRACTION CONTROL MAY HAVE CAUSED THE CAR TO LEAVE THE PARTIAL SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS LAST SEEN AT HP TOWING IN EVANSTON, WYOMING. IT WAS TOTALED AND TITLE WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO ALLSTATE INSURANCE. THE SEAT BELTS IN THIS CAR ARE TOO THIN AND TEND TO TWIST UP PREVENTING CONSISTENT SUPPORT. THE PASSENGER PROTECTIVE CAGE IN THE TOYOTA PRIUS DID AN IMPRESSIVE JOB OF PROTECTING THE OCCUPANTS BUT A PLASTIC LAYER WOULD HAVE PREVENTED INJURIES AND CONTENTS LOSS. *TR
I WAS NOT THE DRIVER, BUT THE PASSENGER WHO WAS ASLEEP UNTIL THE CAR FELT LIKE IT HIT A POT HOLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS NEARLY FATAL. THIS IS AN UPDATE OF AN INITIAL REPORT BASED ON WHAT I NOW BELIEVE. WE WERE EAST ON I-80 AT NEAR MILE 21, WHICH HAS NO EXIT (AS REPORTED BY TOW TRUCK DRIVER). SINCE MY INITIAL REPORT I USED SATELLITE IMAGES TO VERIFY THE APPROXIMATE AREA OF HIGHWAY TO MATCH WHAT I SAW WHEN I WOKE UP AFTER EXPERIENCING THE CAR DOING WHAT FELT LIKE HITTING A POT HOLE, BUT WHICH I NOW BELIEVE WAS A NEW RUN OFFSET RUN OF PARTIAL SHOULDER. SPEED IS AN ESTIMATE. MY WIFE WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PULL OVER AND CHANGE DRIVERS ON THE SHOULDER. I THINK SHE DID PULL ON THE SHOULDER AND THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED ON THE DIRT SIDE OF THE PARTIAL SHOULDER AND STEERED THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I OPENED MY EYES I COULD SEE THE CAR WAS HEADING BACK TO THE HIGHWAY, BUT THE CAR WAS AT SMALL SLOPE OF PERHAPS 20 OR SO DEGREES. SHE WIFE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED ON THE GRASS FOLLOWING THE CONTOUR DOWN THE SLOPE BUT FOLLOWED REFLEXES TRYING TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. I BELIEVE THAT IS THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE ROLL OVER, BUT IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE CAR STAYED ON THE PAVEMENT. ABS SHOULD NEVER ENGAGE WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT ONLY HELPS WHEN TURNING AND OTHERWISE HARMS. IN THE PRIUS EVERYTHING IS COMPUTER CONTROLLED AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED. I HAD ONE OTHER INCIDENT WHERE ABS BRAKES FROM TOYOTA CAUSED MY PRISM TO SPIN OFF THE HIGHWAY ON ICE WHEN I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD. THE PRIUS COMPUTER SHOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED TO RESTRICT THE STEERING RADIUS BASED ON THE CAR'S SPEED AND SIDE DIRECTIONAL SLOPE. THIS WAS A DOUBLY DESIGN PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT THAT NEARLY KILLED MY WIFE, WHO HAS NO RECALL OF THE ACCIDENT BEFORE RESCUE DUE TO INJURIES. WITHOUT REDESIGN ABS BRAKES SHOULD BE BANNED ESPECIALLY WITH BAD SHOULDERS.
LIKE SO MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED, ONE OF THE HID HEADLIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN "FIXES" THE PROBLEM FOR THAT MOMENT. BUT THE PROBLEM CAN REOCCUR WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MOST EVERY TIME I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT SINCE THE INITIAL INCIDENT. GIVEN ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, AND THE 2011 CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS ISSUE WHICH TOYOTA SETTLED WITHOUT ADMITTING GUILT, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WELL-KNOWN TO TOYOTA. EVIDENCE SHOWS THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE LIGHT BULBS BUT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) OR OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I HAVE ENQUIRED TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND SAY MY VEHICLE QUALIFIES UNDER THE LAWSUIT, BUT THEY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM. THE BEST THEY OFFER IS FOR ME TO PAY TO GET NEW LIGHT BULBS AND THEN SUBMIT MY RECEIPTS TO THEM FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT. GIVEN THE MANY COMMENTS BY OTHERS THAT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED EVEN WITH NEW BULBS, THIS "RESOLUTION" BY TOYOTA SEEMS HARDLY ADEQUATE. NHTSA MUST AND SHOULD TAKE ACTION AND DEMAND TOYOTA PROPERLY REPAIR/RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THIS USED VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2014 AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN THE PHOENIX AREA.
THE LEFT HEAD LIGHT FUNCTIONS INTERMITTENTLY. IT WILL TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING SMOOTHLY, FAST OR SLOW. I CAN DRIVE OVER BUMPS AND UNEVEN ROADS AND HAVE THE LIGHT ON THE ENTIRE TIME, OR SOMETIMES IT SHUTS OFF. MY CAR HAS NEW BULBS AND THE CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN CHECKED FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION. AFTER READING MANY FORUMS,I'VE HEARD THAT THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE COMPUTER, LIGHT BULB AND LIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR AT LEAST 2600$. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR FUNCTIONING LIGHT ASSEMBLIES. PLEASE LOOK IVY THIS PROBLEM.
THE 2004 - 2009 ABS/BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLIES HAVE KNOWN ISSUES. THE REPAIR COST IS APPROXIMATELY $2000 OR MORE. THE PART ALONE IS $1500 OR MORE. IT APPEARS WITH THIS BEING A COMMON ISSUE (PER THE SERVICE CENTER ASSOCIATE AND PRIUS FORUMS), THAT EVEN A USED PART WOULD NOT SUSTAIN WITHOUT RECURRING ISSUES THEREBY MAKING IT A REQUIREMENT TO USE ONLY NEW OEM PARTS. THE ABS/BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILURES CAN CAUSE SEVERE SAFETY CONSEQUENCES DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. GIVEN THAT THE ISSUE COMMONLY OCCURS WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRES BUT WITH LESS THAN 200,000 MILES THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING THAT IS COVERED BY TOYOTA AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH THE MANUFACTURING OF DEFECTIVE PARTS IN ALL SUBSEQUENT PRIUS MODELS. *TR
ATTEMPTED EMERGENCY LOW-SPEED STOP TO AVOID A BICYCLIST RUNNING A RED LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. BICYCLIST TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID COLLISION BECAUSE THE BRAKES FAILED TO FULLY ACTIVATE. PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY HARD, ABS DID NOT ACTIVATE, AND VEHICLE SLOWLY HALTED (NO JERK OR THROWING OCCUPANTS AGAINST SEAT BELTS, AS WOULD HAPPEN WITH NORMAL BRAKES). SYSTEM WORKS NORMALLY UNDER LIGHT BRAKING. INABILITY TO BRAKE FULLY UNDER LOW-SPEED CONDITIONS IS A SERIOUS FAILURE. ROAD WAS DRY AND TIRES ARE ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD. *TR
THE STEERING ON THE CAR FAILED COMPLETELY. THERE WAS A POPPING/SNAPPING SOUND WHILE TURNING THE CAR, AND AFTERWARD I COULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT ANY RESISTANCE (MUCH LESS THAN USUAL) AND THE WHEELS DID NOT TURN AT ALL. A LITTLE EARLIER IN THE DRIVE I COULD FEEL THE STEERING ON THE CAR FEEL A LITTLE OFF: I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL A LITTLE MORE TO GET THE WHEELS TO TURN AND SOMETHING JUST FELT LOOSE. I'M INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL THAT THE FINAL 'SNAP' OCCURRED WHILE IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY/AT HIGHER SPEED. I BOUGHT A USED AND REGULARLY SERVICED 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS IN SEPTEMBER 2014 WITH 69,000 MILES. THIS WEEK OF APRIL 5TH, THE AIRBAG SYMBOL SHOWED UP ON THE DASH ALONG WITH THE HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SPIRAL COIL WAS BROKEN AND ;THAT MY AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS DISABLED. THIS HAPPENED AT 85,000 MILES. IT COST ME ALMOST $500 TO HAVE THIS COIL REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS WAS SIMPLY DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I ALSO HAVE OUTSIDE HATCH RUBBER OPENER THAT IS GOOIE AND STICKY AND THE HATCHBACK DOOR OFTEN WILL NOT OPEN. UPDATED 10/31/2017*JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MODULE COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IF WE DON'T WANT TO REPLACE IT RIGHT NOW THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE THE CONVENTIONAL BRAKES WILL STILL WORK JUST FINE. LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER, TOOK HER TO PICK UP HER GLASSES AND WHEN WE LEFT THE BRAKES DID THE SAME THING, THE BUZZING IN THE CABIN AND THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPED AFTER A LONG DISTANCE WITH NO DRIVER CONTROL. TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND ALTHOUGH THE SAME LIGHTS ARE ALL LIT UP ACROSS THE DASH THEY COULD PULL NO CODES AT ALL. I JUST KNOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND TOYOTA COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT IF THEY REPLACE THE ECU AND THE ACTUATOR THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED. IN THE NORTHERN STATES WITH SEVERE WINTERS THIS RESULTS IN OWNERS FREQUENTLY RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHEN THEY THINK THEY STILL HAVE AMPLE FUEL AS SHOWN BY MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOUND ON THE INTERNET, AND FOR US ON A TRIP IN FEBRUARY TO MARCH 2015 WE WERE IN SERIOUS FEAR OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHEN IN FACT IF THE SPECIFICATION FOR CAPACITY HAS ANY MEANING WE STILL HAD OVER 4 GALLONS OF FUEL. WE GOT SO WORRIED, WE STOPPED AT A BROTHEL IN NEVADA SO MY WIFE COULD ASK HOW FAR TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. WHEN WE GOT TO THE GAS STATION THE FUEL PUMP INDICATOR WAS EVEN BLINKING TO INDICATE WE WERE IN DANGER OF RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, YET THE CAR FILLED UP WITH ONLY 65% OF ITS RATED FUEL CAPACITY. RUNNING OUT OF GAS UNEXPECTEDLY IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS IN THE TOYOTA PRIUS BECAUSE SO MUCH DEPENDS ON ELECTRICITY INCLUDING THE STEERING TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT CANNOT HAPPEN WHEN THE BATTERY IS ALREADY AT MAXIMUM DEPLETION OR THE MAIN BATTERY ITSELF HAS FAILED BUT NOT YET BEEN REPLACED IN WHICH CASE THE CAR IS TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON CONTINUOUS FUEL FLOW. WHEN ASKED IF THEY REPLACED IT OR REMOVED THE DASH, THEY SAID NO. THE VEHICLE WOULD SLAM US FORWARD EVERY TIME WE PRESSED THE BRAKES. TOYOTA CAMELBACK RETURNED OUR VEHICLE WITH 14 SENSORS BURNED. TO THIS DAY, WE HAVE TO USE BOTH FEET TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THEIR REPAIR TECHS. BASICALLY WHAT WE CONCLUDED IS THAT TOYOTA CAN NOT FIX MY PROBLEM FOR THEY CANNOT VERIFY THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTS. SO HERE WE HAVE A CLASSIC CATCH 22 - AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 9 YEARS IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE. THEY ALSO CONTEND THAT PROVIDING PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED TO RELEASE THE KEY OR TURN IT IN ORDER TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR LESS THAN A MONTH AGO USED FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY ONRAMP, MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON THEN THE LIGHT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY FOR THE REST OF MY DRIVE. *TR
I'M IN NJ ON 1/8/15 I WAS SHOPPING AT COSTCO. IT WAS SUB ZERO TEMEPERTURE AND I HAD A FULL CART. I INJURED MY FINGERS AND GOT FROSTBITE WHILE TRYING TO OPEN HATCH. IT WAS STUCK.
