IN 2014 MY REGULAR BEAM HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. THE DEALERS WANTED $130 TO PUT IN A NEW BULB SAYING THE BUMPER HAD TO BE REMOVED. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A BULB AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE AND INSTALLED IT WITHOUT REMOVING THE BUMPER. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL BULBS ON BOTH SIDES AND WAS FINALLY TOLD BY SYLVANIA THAT I NEED TO CHANGE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME WHICH I DID ABOUT A MONTH AGO. A COUPLE OF NIGHTS AGO, I STARTED THE CAR AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT AND THE FUSES WERE INTACT. I PUT IN TWO MORE BULBS, BUT I CAN BARELY SEE WITH THEM ALTHOUGH THEY ARE LIT. THE BEAM IS VERY WEAK. THE DEALERS WANT OVER $100 TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND THE PROBLEM OR BEFORE THEY WILL GIVE ME A QUOTE OF THE COST TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AS STATED BY TOYOTA IN A TECHNICAL BULLETIN. THIS WAS MY THIRD PRIUS, AND LAST ONE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A TOYOTA 2010 PRIUS AND FOUR DASH WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED THE DAY AFTER I PURCHASED IT WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON IN THE MORNING. THE LIGHTS STAY ON FOR HOURS TO DAYS AND GO OFF FOR SIMILAR AMOUNT OF TIME. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON THE BRAKES ARE MUCH LESS RESPONSIVE AND THE BRAKING ACTION DOES NOT CHARGE THE BATTERIES AS MUCH, NEVER MORE THAN 25% OF CHARGING POTENTIAL. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A PROBLEM WITH ACCUMULATOR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I PERFORMED A SEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR SUCH PROBLEM, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED A MONTH AFTER THE DATE OF PRODUCTION THAT WOULD QUALIFY FOR THIS RECALL. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DUPLICATE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ISSUES. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *LD *JS THE CONSUMER STATED THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ONLY OCCURRED WHEN BRAKING WHILE ENCOUNTERING A BUMP SUCH AS A CHUCKHOLE OR, SPEED BUMP. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHEN STOPPING FOR STOPLIGHT ON HWY 53/MIDWAY ROAD. RESULTING IN 3 CAR ACCIDENT. THIS WAS THE SECOND BRAKE FAILURE. THE FIRST COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE AT WORK LOCATION. BRAKES WERE PRESSED , CAR KEPT BACKING UP HITTING A PARKED CAR BEHIND US. AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DROVE THE CAR AND ALSO EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE LOSS AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A BIT. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. *TR
IN THE PAST YEAR I HAVE HAD 2 OCCURRENCES OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE FIRST IN FEBRUARY OF 2016. I WAS EXITING A PARKING RAMP UP HILL AND STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT THEN TURNING TO THE LEFT (90 DEGREE TURN). WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I WAS UNABLE TO GET IT SLOWED/STOPPED FOR ABOUT A BLOCK EVEN THOUGH I WAS APPLYING HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE. THE CAR WAS REVVING AGAINST THE BRAKE PRESSURE. NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES OCCURRED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT (PURCHASE DATE 8/3/13). THEY CHECKED THE CAR OVER AND FOUND NO APPARENT CAUSE FOR THE ACCELERATION. I TOOK THE CAR HOME, AND IT DROVE NORMALLY UNTIL 11/26/16. ON THAT DATE I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY IN A FLAT PARKING LOT, AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING WITHOUT MY PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND THEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT (90 DEGREE. I GOT THE CAR STOPPED IN A FEW FEET BY PRESSING EXTREMELY HARD ON THE BRAKE. MY CAR DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. TECHNICIANS FROM THE DEALERSHIP HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A CAUSE AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET PAST TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO ESCALATE THE ISSUE FOR MORE DETAILED DIAGNOSTICS. I HAVE ATTACHED THE TIMELINE OF TRYING TO GET THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND THE ISSUE ESCALATED AS WELL AS WHY I DON'T THINK USER ERROR IS A FACTOR. *TR
HEADLIGHTS HAVE BURNED OUT 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 YEARS- BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AND PREVIOUSLY ONE BURNED OUT WITHIN A WEEK OF THE OTHER.
HELLO. I RECENTLY STARTED TO EXPERIENCE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. MY BRAKES STARTED TO MAKE SOME KIND OF UNUSUAL NOISES EVERY TIME I PRESS ON THEM. I'VE NEVER HAD THAT BEFORE AND I SERVICE MY CAR PRETTY OFTEN. I WENT TO AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A COMPUTER ISSUE AND THEY FIXED IT FOR $110. IT CONTINUED TO MAKE NOISES AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT BEGAN SHOWING ABS/BRAKE/VSC LIGHTS ON MY CAR DASHBOARD EITHER WHILE I WAS DRIVING OR BEING IN THE 'PARK' MODE. AT THE SAME TIME MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING WELL WHILE DRIVING WHEN THE ABS/BRAKE/VSC LIGHTS WERE ON. I CHECKED THE CODE OF THE ERROR THROUGH THE CAR COMPUTER AND IT SHOWED ME 'C1391'. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY DID ANOTHER CHECK AND THIS TIME THEY FOUND THAT BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER/BOOSTER/ABS ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH $3,170 PRICE. I ATTACHED HERE THE PAPER THAT MY TOYOTA PRIME DEALERSHIP LOCATED HERE IN SACO, ME GAVE ME. I'VE BEEN READING A LOT ABOUT IT ONLINE AND PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF HYBRID VEHICLES HAVE EXPERIENCED IT. I THINK TOYOTA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THEIR HYBRID VEHICLES. I SERVICE MY CAR ALL THE TIME, I DO OIL CHANGE AND CHECK ALL THE SYSTEMS VERY THOROUGHLY, SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE, CONSUMERS, HAVE TO PAY THAT BIG OF A PRICE FOR THE CAR REPAIR. I HOPE YOU CAN LOOK INTO THE ISSUE AND HELP ME (AND TO ALL OTHER CAR OWNERS) TO RESOLVE THIS KIND OF ISSUE. THANK YOU.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT LEAST 2 TIMES A YEAR. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. WIRING SEEMS FINE, NO DAMAGE THEY JUST GO OUT RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
AIR BAG RECALL - TOOK MY CAR IN TO KERRY TOYOTA IN FLORENCE KY AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE TIME TO PERFORM THE RECALL FIX THAT NO ONE THERE COULD DO IT. I HAD MADE AN APPOINTMENT A FEW WEEKS IN ADVANCE ON THEIR MOBILE SITE AND SPECIFICALLY SAID I WAS BRINGING MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL FIX.
I JUST TESTED ALL YEARS FROM 2010 TO 2011 PRIUS, THOSE PRIUS BURNS A LOT OF OIL AT EVERY 2,000 MILES. I DID FILL IT (AT 4.4 QUARTS OF OIL) CORRECTLY IT BUT PRIUS ATE OVER 3 QUARTS IN 2000 MILES. LIKE MANY OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTS THIS ON PRIUSCHAT.COM AND ETC ONLINE FORUMS. I HATE TO SPEND MY MONEY TO BUY MOTOR OILS! WHY THIS PRIUS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION? "WHAT DID THIS HAPPEN?" I JUST PURCHASED 2010 PRIUS ON OCT. 2016. AND I TESTED IT. IT STILL OIL CONSUMPTION. TOYOTA DEALER CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR MOTOR OIL. SINCE IT HAPPENED, I STILL CHECK OIL LEVEL AT EVERY 2,000 MILES AND PUT IT SOME MOTOR OIL IN IT UNTIL IT REACH TO 5,000 MILES FOR SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE.
THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR IS FAULTY. I SEE THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE RECALL HISTORY OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. BUT I DON'T SEE A CURRENT RECALL FOR IT NOW. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THIS PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE HUNDREDS I HAVE READ ON THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE. IT IS ALREADY WELL DOCUMENTED BY OWNERS.
BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR MOTORS HAVE WENT OUT. THUS HAPPENED LAST YEAR AND AFTER FURTHER READING IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL THEM. WE ONLY HAVE 65,000 MILES ON THIS CAR.
IN FALL OF 2015 RECALL FOR HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE WAS PREFORMED TO COMPUTER SYSTEM. IN THE FALL OF 2016 I WAS PULLING OUT ONTO TRAFFIC ONTO A STATE ROUTE WHEN ENGINE LOST POWER AND LIGHTS FOR THE HYBRID SYSTEM CAME ON. WAS RUNNING ON ONLY GAS ENGINE WITH LIMITED SLOW ACCELERATION TO ABOUT 35 MPH. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE IT TO A LOCATION TO PARK IT UNTIL FLAT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILED, UPON RESEARCH I FOUND IT FAILED EXACTLY AS STATED IN THE RECALL THAT WAS DONE IN FALL OF 2015. THE PREVIOUS RECALL "FIX" WAS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE THE DAMAGE HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. FOUGHT WITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND CORPORATE ABOUT THAT THIS WAS A RECALL FIX THAT FAILED AND DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE $3000 REPAIR ENTIRELY AND I AM STUCK PAYING HALF OF THE REPAIR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED ENTIRELY UNDER THE RECALL.
MY CAR IS MAKING A WEIRD NOISE COMING FROM THE FIREWALL. MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ARE ON, BRAKE, AND A COUPLE OTHER. IT TURNS OFF AND THEN WILL TURN BACK ON.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CAR IS CONSUMING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,200 MILES AND HAS FAILED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PERFORMED BY THE DEALER.
2010 TOYOTA YARIS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE TO REPAIR PASSENGER SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION RECALL 16V-340. *SMD THE RECALL THE CONSUMER REFERENCED IS FOR THE AIR BAG. 8JB
WHILE DRIVING IN BOSTON, I ATTEMPTED TO BEEP THE HORN TO WARN A CAR THAT WAS CUTTING IN FRONT OF ME, BUT THE HORN DID NOT WORK. TOYOTA DIAGNOSED THIS AS A BAD CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE INABILITY TO USE THE HORN IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AN ONLINE SEARCH SEEMS TO REVEAL THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MULTIPLE TOYOTA MODELS.
TIRE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THIRD TIME. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH MY TIRES. STARTED THIS SUMMER AND CONTINUES TODAY. I AM TAKING MY VEHICLE INTO A TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE SECOND TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM.
IN THE PAST YEAR, MY PRIUS HAS BLOWN OUT HEADLIGHTS 5 TIMES ON BOTH SIDES AND LOW AND HIGH BEAM. THIS IS NT ONLY A DANGEROUS PROBLEM BUT AND EXPENSIVE ONE. THEY SAY UNLESS ALL THE BULBS WERE REPLACED BY A DEALERSHIP, THEY CANNOT DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. I HAVE THE BULBS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY U[ON DISCOVERY. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THESE BULB AND INSTALLATION COSTS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, THE REAR WINDOW GLASS HAD SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED/ EXPLODED. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF VANDALISM. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TYPE OF GLASS THAT IS USED, AND THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE. EXAMPLES MAY BE FOUND ON YOUTUBE.
THERE IS A RECALL NOTICE WE RECEIVED ABOUT A RISK OF SPONTANEOUS ACTIVATION OF CURTAIN AIRBAGS AND THE POTENTIAL FOR PASSENGER INJURY. HOWEVER, FOR SEVERAL MONTHS I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING VARIOUS DEALERS TO REQUEST THE REMEDY AND THEY SAY TOYOTA HAS FILED TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE PARTS TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. IT IS VERY TROUBLING TO BE AWARE OF A RECALL WHILE SUCH DELAYS OCCUR IN FIXING IT. OBVIOUSLY, IF MY FAMILY WERE TO EXPERIENCE INJURY DUE TO THIS DELAY, WE WOULD DEFINITELY HOLD THE MANUFACTURER RESPONSIBLE.
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANYTHING. THE SHOCK OF THIS HAPPENING, ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING.
ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2016, WHILE WE ARE DRIVING BACK TO INDIANAPOLIS FROM CHICAGO, THE LEFT DASH SCREEN BECAME DYSFUNCTIONAL AND WENT COMPLETELY BLANK. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF THE SPEED, THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK, AND THE CONDITION OF THE ENGINE. WE DID NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL ON THE WAY HOME.ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2016, WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO BUTLER TOYOTA WHERE WE PURCHASED IT FOR A CHECKUP. AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED ME THAT THE COMBINATION METER WAS OUT COMPLETELY. THIS COMBINATION METER MUST BE REPLACED TO RESTORE THE READING ON THE DASH BOARD. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS UNIT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, AND I MUST PAY $1,698.42 (TAX NOT INCLUDED) FOR THIS REPLACEMENT (SEE ATTACHED). THIS COMBINATION METER IS A CRITICAL SAFETY TOOL TO MONITOR THE DRIVING MECHANISMS, THE CONDITION OF VEHICLE, AND WHEN THE DRIVER SHOULD REFILL THEIR FUEL TANK. TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR CONSIDERATION OF THIS WORK AS A FAULTY PRODUCT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITHOUT COST TO THE CUSTOMER. ENCLOSED IS A COPY OF SERVICE FROM BUTLER TOYOTA.
THREE TIMES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS I HAVE HAD MY ONE OR THE OTHER OF MY HEADLIGHTS DIM AND GO OUT. THE FIRST TIME I REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHTS ASSUMING THE LIGHT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SO I SHOULD JUST DO BOTH. IT HAS OCCURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES AND FINALLY, LAST NIGHT, I RETURNED TO MY PARKED CAR TO DISCOVER BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH BEAMS AND NO LIGHTS. REPLACING BULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS SEEMS EXCESSIVE. LOSING HEADLIGHTS IN THE DARK IS DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED.
I WENT TO START THE PRIUS AFTER WORK, AFTER I PRESSED THE START BUTTON, SEVERAL ALARMS WENT OFF ON THE MAIN PANEL. ALARMS INCLUDED THE MASTER ALARM, ABS, BRAKE, CHECK ENGINE, AND AN INCESSANT BEEPING. THERE WAS ALSO A REPETITIVE SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS TRYING TO BUILD PRESSURE, BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THIS AS THE MASTER BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE QUOTE WAS $2500 FOR THE PART, AND $500 IN LABOR. THEY STARTED WORK ON THE VEHICLE, THEN CALLED AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ACCUMULATOR AS WELL, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY REPLACED DURING THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE WHO PAID FOR THE ACCUMULATOR, BUT WOULD NOT COVER THE ADDITIONAL LABOR TO INSTALL THE ACCUMULATOR. THE TOTAL BILL WAS $3900. THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PRIUS FAMILY. MY CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES.
LAST YEAR (BY A LETTER NOT DATED !) TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA MAILED US A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE "INTERIM NOTICE" REGARDING THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAGS AND SINCE THEN THE TOYOTA DEALER DID NOT CONTACTED US TO INSTALL THE RETENTION BRACKETS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE INFLATOR CHAMBERS FROM ENTERING THE CAR INTERIOR. WHEN WILL THE REMEDY BE AVAILABLE ? IF IT IS AVAILABLE CAN WE BE CONTACTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BY THE DEALER (JIM COLEMAN TOYOTA, 10400 AUTO PARK AVENUE. BETHESDA, MD 20817). THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR THE AIR BAGS; HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TOYOTA HAS NOT REMEDIED THIS KNOWN ISSUE IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. I, THE CONSUMER, OWNER, AND OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE IS CONTINUED AT RISK WHILE AND UNTIL TOYOTA PREPARES THE REMEDY PARTS. TIME TO REMEDY IS UNANNOUNCED AND VEHICLE OPERATOR FEELS AT RISK.
IN FEB 2015 AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE SUNROOF EXPLODED ON THE FREEWAY AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH. THE BREAK WAS DIRECTED UP TO THE OUTSIDE (NOT DOWN AS IF SOMETHING STRUCK THE WINDOW). THE SIDE WINDOWS WERE CRACKED SO IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE OF THE HEAT/COLD CHANGE OR TOO MUCH CABIN PRESSURE. NOW AUG 2016, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SUNROOF. IN BOTH INSTANCES, THE SOUND WAS LOUD LIKE A SHOTGUN AND EXTREMELY STARTLING. GLASS COULD HAVE RAINED DOWN ON ME OR I COULD HAVE BEEN STARTLED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE SUNROOF CAN BREAK TWICE IN THE SAME MANNER WITHIN 1 1/2 YRS OWNING THE CAR. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE PICTURES BUT AM UNABLE TO LOAD THEM. OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS I HAVE NOTICED THE CHECK MAJOR SYSTEM LIGHT FLICKERING WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT OR COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE 80,000 MILE CHECK AND TOLD THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHAT I HAD SEEN. HE TOLD ME HE COULD TELL ME WHAT THE ISSUE WAS WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE CAR. HE SAID THE CAR WAS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL, THE ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND HE WOULD FILE A CASE WITH THEM FOR ME. HE ALSO TOLD ME THE COST WAS ABOUT $3000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THAT I MAY OR MAY NOT HEAR BACK FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS. WHEN THEY FINISHED SERVICING MY CAR THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THEY HAD ADDED EXTRA OIL TO TOP IT OFF. THIS IS THE FIRST TOYOTA I HAVE OWNED. I BOUGHT IT NEW AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR EVERY MAINTENANCE CHECK. I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE ISSUE.

WHICH MADE THE CAR UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, ALL I COULD DO WAS TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND PULL THRU 3 LANES OF HIGH SPEED CARS TO GET TO A BREAKDOWN LANE NEXT TO AN ON RAMP, SO I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 4 LANE HIGHWAY AND 2 LANE ON RAMP. I THEN GOT MY KIDS OUT AND RAN ACROSS THE ON RAMP TO PUT THEM ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CONCRETE BARRIER FOR PROTECTION. THEN I WENT BACK TO THE CAR TO GATHER WATERS AND FOOD BECAUSE IT WAS 90 DEGREES OUT IN UTAH, I WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 30 MINUTES UNTIL A TOW TRUCK CAME. OIL CONSUMPTION. I PURCHASED MY PRIUS WITH 77000 MILES FOR A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. MY CAR NOW HAS 140000 MILES AND CONSUMES 2-3 QUARTS OF OIL PER WEEK. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR HELP. I WAS DIRECTED TO HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PREFORMED. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM TOYOTA MAY OFFER REPAIR ASSISTANCE HOWEVER MY ENGINE IS NOT ON THE LIST OF TOYOTA APPROVED VEHICLES ELIGIBLE FOR COMPLEMENTARY REPAIR. IN JULY, I WAS BRAKING TO A STOP ON A SUBURBAN STREET BUT MY BRAKES WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN TIME. IT WAS RAINING. I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, WHERE I WAS HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BY AN ONCOMING CAR. ADDITIONALLY, MY SIDE AIRBAG (CURTAIN) DIDN'T DEPLOY. I WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 15 MPH AT THE TIME.
FOR THE PAST YEAR, THE LOW BEAMS ON MY 2010 PRIUS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF BEING REPLACED. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE TWICE IN THE DARK WITH NO LOW BEAMS AND HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME/BUY NEW BULBS. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT BRAND OR TYPE OF BULB I USE, THEY ARE BURNING OUT WITHIN 45-60 DAYS OF REPLACEMENT. IT'S EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY SINCE I SPEND A MAJORITY OF MY TIME DRIVING FOR WORK. THE TOYOTA DEALER I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO IN MAY 2016 TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, THEY'D NEVER HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS, AND THAT I JUST NEEDED TO BUY "EXPENSIVE" BULBS. AFTER INSTALLING THE MOST EXPENSIVE BULBS I COULD FIND, BOTH HEADLIGHTS BURNED OUT WITHIN 60 DAYS. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING BUYING NEW BULBS EVERY 2 MONTHS.

PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS BEFORE DEALER COULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MOST OF THAT TIME AIRBAGS WERE INOPERATIVE.

THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT INCITED THE RECALL FOR NITROGEN LEAKING INTO THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN SOME PRIUS MADE IN 2010 (82,000). COST OF $3200. INCIDENTALLY, BRAKE FLUID WAS FLUSHED AND CHANGED AT 60,000 AND THEN AGAIN AT 75,000. THE REASON, STATED FROM THE DEALER IS THAT MAINTENANCE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. PRIORITY TOYOTA OF SPRINGFIELD WAS THE ONLY ONE DURING THE MAINTENANCE AND I FOLLOWED THEIR RECOMMENDED ADVICE FOR THE 2 BRAKE FLUID FLUSHES AND REPLACEMENT.
I AM EXPERIENCING A RESURGENCE OF THE ACCELERATION WHILE BRAKING PHENOMENON THAT WAS THE BASIS OF THE 2010 RECALL. WE HAD THE CAR FIXED AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. THE INCIDENTS RELATE TO WHEN I AM BRAKING AND HAPPEN TO GO OVER A BUMP OR HIT A POTHOLE. AS I AM BREAKING THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES FORWARD AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP BREAKING HARDER TO KEEP FROM HAVING THE CAR GET AWAY FROM YOU. IT IS NOW HAPPENING ALMOST CONSISTENTLY. AFTER CALLING THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THE GENERAL TOYOTA NUMBER, I FIND OUT THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO APPLY THE SAME FIX AS THEY DID IN 2010. I AM NOW FORCED TO TAKE THE CAR IN AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WILL CHARGE ME FOR THAT. THEN TOYOTA SAID I COULD CALL THEM BACK TO SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING THEY CAN DO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DON'T HAVE TO STAND BY A FIX THAT IS NOT RELATED TO WEAR AND TEAR BUT RATHER A MALFUNCTION IN THE WAY THEY BUILT THE CAR. IT SHOULD NEVER BE RIGHT TO HAVE A CAR ACCELERATE IF ONE IS BRAKING. THE ONLY DAMAGE TO DATE HAS BEEN A GLARE FROM A CONSTRUCTION WORKER WHO WAS TELLING ME TO STOP ONLY TO SEE THE CAR LURCH TOWARD HIM.
I WAS IN A PARKING STRUCTURE GOING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO PRESS THE BRAKE. BEFORE I COULD GET MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE, THE CAR QUICKLY ACCELERATED. IT TOOK AT LEAST TWO ATTEMPTS AT PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDDLE BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. AND, TO BE HONEST, THE GUARDRAIL THE CAR HIT HELPED ACTUALLY STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED AND EXTREMELY SCARY. IN HINDSIGHT, I SHOULD HAVE SUSPECTED THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WHEN I NOTICED THAT SOMETIMES WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP THERE WOULD BE A FEELING OF THE BRAKES SLIPPING AND THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD A BIT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR TOWED IN TO GET CHECKED OUT, AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOTIFY TOYOTA. IN THE MEANTIME I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR!
