THE BEST I CAN GET IS 40 MPG WITH MOSTLY CITY DRIVING. WHICH IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN THEIR CLAIMED 55+ MPG. ANYONE HAS THE SAME COMPLAIN ?
STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND EXTENSION IS PRONE FOR FAILURE DUE TO DESIGN AND/OR MATERIAL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTEGRATED POWER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V053000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION AT 93,000 MILES. THE TOYOTA DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT IT WILL COST $13,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND THAT IS MY ONLY OPTION.
MY PRIUS SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TODAY. MY WIFE WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. MY VIN IS [XXX]. I SPOKE WITH MY WIFE AND THE INCIDENT OCCURRED UP A HILL WHEN SHE WAS PARKING (DECELERATING), SHE DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT STUCK AT THE TIME AND THERE WAS NO WARNING OF A PROBLEM. ALSO, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED BEFORE. VEHICLE WAS GOING UP A HILL ON A CITY STREET, NO ICE, GOING STRAIT, NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR, UNKNOWN TO WHAT FAILED. BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY VEHICLE IN MOTION WHEN ON HIGHWAY WHEN LOSS OF BREAKING AND STEERING TOOK PLACE. VEHICLE LIGHTED ICONS APPEARED ON DASH ALONG WITH ALARM SOUND. (ABS) (!) (BRAKE) (SS). THIS UNSAFE CONDITION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF NHTSA WOULD HAVE FORCED TOYOTA TO RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE PART IN 2013 WHEN TOYOTA NOTIFIED NHTSA OF THE DEFECTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM. ABS ACTUATOR WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY HAS INTERNAL LEAK. ASSEMBLY DOESN'T HOLD PRESSURE AND ACTUATOR MOTOR CONTINIOUSLY WORKING IN ORDER TO CREATE THE PRESSURE. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM BRAKES ARE NOT OPERATE AS PROPERLY. IT TAKES MORE STRENGTH TO PUT ON THE PEDAL TO STOP VEHICLE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING NOT ALL WHEELS WERE INVOLVED EQUALLY. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM BRAKING DISTANCE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED. I HAVE 3 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ERROR LIGHTS TURNED ON DUE TO THIS PROBLEM: "BRAKE", LIGHT WITH VEHICLE ON SLEEPY ROAD, AND LIGHT WITH "!" SIGN. I FOUND THAT THERE ALREADY WAS RECALL FOR SAME 2010 YEAR TOYOTA PRIUS UNDER TMS-NTC-13178 OF JULY 23, 2013, TOYOTA RECALL NAME D0H, BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED. I KINDLY ASK YOU TO INVESTIGATE IF MY CAR ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN, SINCE SEEMSTHAT THIS CAR WERE ASSEMBLED WITH SAME UNRELIABLE PARTS.
ON FEB 19, 2016 I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 PRIUS. THE SUNROOF EXPLODED, WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANYTHING. IT EXPLODED UPWARD. I CALLED TOYOTA, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR FAULT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE GLASS. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS.
DRIVER MADE A SUDDEN STOP TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT ON 2/16/15, ENGAGING THE BRAKES. AFTERWARD THE BRAKES ALTERNATED BETWEEN BEING HARD TO PUSH AND BEING SOFT TO PUSH. DRIVER PARKED THE VEHICLE 5 MINUTES LATER. THE NEXT TIME THE CAR WAS TURNED ON(APPROXIMATELY 60M LATER), THE CAR BEGAN BEEPING AND SHOWING THREE ERROR LIGHTS - ABS, (!), AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYMBOL. AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS, THE DRIVER WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THE PROBLEM SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE A PREVIOUSLY ISSUED RECALL (TCP-D0H); HOWEVER, TOYOTA HAS INDICATED THAT OUR MODEL IS OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THEIR RECALL. GIVEN THAT WE HAVE THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR CAR AS THE RECALL AND THE SAME ISSUE DESCRIBED, THE SITUATION IS HIGHLY SUSPECT. IN ADDITION TO INSURING MY OWN FAMILY'S SAFETY, I'M HOPING TO MAKE SURE THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS BRAKE ISSUE ISN'T MORE WIDESPREAD THAN TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED.
THE ISSUES IS MY BRAKES. WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION, TYPICALLY WHEN THE ROAD IS WET, IF ANY OF MY WHEELS PASSES OVER A MANHOLE, OR PAVEMENT STRIPING THAT IS SLICKER THAN THE PAVEMENT, THE BRAKES WILL RELEASE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, MY CAR HAS GONE THROUGH OR PARTIALLY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. RECENTLY THIS CAUSED ME TO RUN A RED LIGHT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR USED . I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (BURIEN AUTO, BURIEN, WA) ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO WITH A NOTE EXPLAINING WHAT IS HAPPENING, AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE ROAD TESTED IT AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FRIED THE INVERTER AND SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SOFTWARE WAS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND OVERHEATED THE INVERTER, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE CRASHING INTO AN APARTMENT UNIT. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH AN INVESTIGATOR WHO REMOVED A BOX FROM THE VEHICLE, WHICH WOULD DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO DRIVER ERROR OR A SAFETY DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT IT WAS DRIVER ERROR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
WHEN BRAKING ON A BUMPY ROAD, OVER A POT HOLE OR ON SLIPPERY ROAD THE BRAKES SLIP AND THE CAR PROPELS FORWARD . THIS HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS WHILE IN MOTION.
CAR IS BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. DEALER TOLD ME (OVER PHONE) THAT TRIANGLE WAS FROM TAKING CORNERS TOO FAST (DEALER HAS SINCE SAID THIS WAS INACCURATE INFO). OIL CHANGE FOR LIFE (EVERY 10K MILES) AT DEALER AND NO ONE HAS EVER NOTIFIED ME THAT CAR IS USING OIL. 6,000 MILES AFTER LAST OIL CHANGE, OVER 3 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL USED. I NEARLY LOCKED UP THE ENGINE. CAR IS NOT LEAKING OIL. CAR SOMETIMES SMELLS OF OIL AFTER STARTING. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CERTAIN MODELS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT NOT FOR PRIUS. MY CAR HAS 117,000 MILES AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 25,000 MILES (BASED UPON ORANGE WARNING TRIANGLE). ACCORDING TO DEALER, PROBLEM IS WITH RINGS (WHICH IS THE RECALL FOR OTHER TOYOTA CARS). ALSO, ACCORDING TO DEALER, THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR OTHER PRIUS OWNERS WITH 100,000+ MILES. I CONSIDER THIS VERY DANGEROUS TO SAFE OPERATION OF VEHICLE AND FUMES FROM BURNT OIL.
HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. I GOT INTO MY CAR TO DRIVE TO WORK AND FOUND ONE BULB OUT. THAT NIGHT I GOT INTO MY CAR TO DRIVE HOME AND FOUND THE OTHER BULB OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME IN THE RAIN WITH NO HEADLIGHTS, USING MY HIGH BEAMS WHENEVER POSSIBLE. CHANGED OUT THE BULBS NUMEROUS TIMES AND NOTHING CAME ON. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD AN UPDATED WIRING HARNESS WAS NEEDED AND WOULD COST ME NEARLY $800! IF THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED, TOYOTA CLEARLY KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO SHORT. I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I CANNOT DRIVE SAFELY BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX TOYOTA'S DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BEGAN TO INDICATE HOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE EMITTED SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 201,000.
MY CAR AT 139,500 MILES DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A MAIN ROAD AT 45 MPH HAD THREE LIGHTS COME ON, RED 'BRAKE' LIGHT, YELLOW 'ABS' LIGHT AND THE YELLOW 'TCS' LIGHT. EARL STEWART TOYOTA DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF LABOR/PARTS OF 2,100$. I WAS ABLE TO FINANCIALLY AFFORD THE REPAIR SO I TOLD THEM TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. LESS THAN TWO DAYS LATER, DRIVING NORMALLY ON A MAIN ROAD, THE SAME THREE WARNINGS APPEARED, AND OF COURSE UPSET ME GREATLY. TOYOTA THIS TIME DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM THIS TIME AS THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ANOTHER DEALER SAID THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I AM IN TALKS WITH THE DEALER TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PROCEED.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION STARTING AT 100,000 WHICH WORSENED. I NOW HAVE TO PUT A QUART OF OIL EVERY 750-1000 MILES IN MY 2010 PRIUS. NO ONE AT TOYOTA WILL ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM, ALBEIT THERE ARE AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF THESE COMPLAINTS ONLINE THROUGH DIFFERENT BLOGS AND WEB SITES. REALLY, WE TOYOTA OWNERS BOUGHT THIS CAR TO DECREASE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT...IRONIC, RIGHT?
HEADLIGHTS HAVE GONE OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. REPLACEMENT OF THE BULBS BEGAN IN 2013. ONLY RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE AND BACK ROADS,DID WE REALIZE THAT WERE SOMETIMES WORKING AND THIS WAS A REOCCURRING ISSUE.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND AN ALARM STARTED SOUNDING. I WAITED UNTIL LIGHT TRAFFIC APPLIED BRAKES PEDAL FELT LIKE I WAS PRESSING ON A BRICK, NO BRAKING OCCURRED I PRESSED HARDER, THE BRAKES BECAME SOFTER WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE PADS GRABBED HARD ON THE WHEELS. THERE IS NO CONTROLLED BRAKING ON THE CAR. DEALERSHIP SAYS THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP FAILED, THIS IS THE SAME YEAR MODEL THAT HAD BRAKING PROBLEMS RELATED TO NITROGEN IN THE BREAK LINES CAUSED BY A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP. THE VIN IS ALSO VERY CLOSE TO AFFECTED VEHICLES. FORTUNATELY WHEN THIS OCCURRED I WAS IN A POSITION TO NAVIGATE TO WHERE I COULD TEST THE BRAKES IN A FAIRLY CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT. HAD IT HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IT WOULD HAVE ALMOST CERTAINLY RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS CONTIUALLY FAIL. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE LIGHTS NO LESS THAT 8 TIMES SINCE 2012! NOT ONLY AN EXPENSE, BUT POSES A SIGNIFICANT HAZARD. I WAS TOLD RECENTLY THE THE CAUSE IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE WIRING HARNESS WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED. HOWEVER, ON 2 OCCASIONS THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE "SYSTEM" I FINE AND THAT I HAVE TO BE MORE CAREFUL IN REPLACING THE BULBS. THE CAR CAN BE PARKED, OR ACTIVE. THERE IS NOW WARNING OR SPECIFIC MILAGE. SEEMS RANDOM. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE 01/24/2016.

I ALONG WITH AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE 2010 PRIUS BEGIN TO BURN OIL AT AN ALARMINGLY HIGH RATE AROUND 60-80K MILES. THIS IS ACCOMPANIED WITH AN EMISSION INTO THE CABIN OF NOXIOUS FUMES DURING HIGH OIL BURN RATE (HEAVIER ACCELERATION) MOMENTS. WE HAVE ALL BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIPS THAT THIS IS "NORMAL". THIS HAS LED TO BURNING OVER A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES, HEADACHES FROM THE FUMES, AND NOW I HAVE FOUND OUT THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL SOOT BUILDUP IN THE ENGINE RESULTING FROM THE OIL BURNING REQUIRING VERY COSTLY REPAIRS. TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE COSTLY ISSUE.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE PRESSURE FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE. ALSO, THE HORN FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AUTONATION TOYOTA CERRITOS (LOCATED AT 18700 STUDEBAKER RD, CERRITOS, CA 90703, (562) 802-4000), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle consistently made abnormal sounds and jerked forward while the brake pedal was being depressed. The vehicle became inoperable. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a crack and leak in the brake booster. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact referenced the NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V235000 (Service Brakes). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The contact stated this is a known manufacturing fail for the brake booster 2010 Prius.
AS I WAS DRIVING, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, THE CAR WOULD JERK FORWARD BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. ONCE STOPPED (BUT STILL TURNED ON), THE CAR MADE A BUZZING NOISE I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AND THE BRAKES DID NOT SQUEAK. AN HOUR LATER, MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR HOME FOR ME (I RODE WITH A FRIEND), AND HE REPORTED THAT WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKES TO WORK, HE HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THEM AND ALSO ALLOW MUCH MORE DISTANCE FOR THE CAR TO STOP. HE COULD HAVE EASILY CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE SAME COMPLAINT AS A 2010 PRIUS RECALL, BUT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, SO I DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE IN THE AIL. ALSO, WE HAD TO PAY $3008 TO HAVE THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL # 13V235000. UPDATED 02/11/16. *JB
THE TOYOTA PRIUS I HAVE HAS A RECALL, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA HAMER DEALER IN MISSION HILLS, THEY RELEASED THE CAR BACK TO ME AFTER THE I RECIEVED A BRAKES RECALL, I EXPERIENCED SCARY UNSAFE EXPERIENCE IN THIS CAR. THE CAR WAS PARK IN A UP SLOP DRIVEWAY, MY FAMILY WAS INSIDE, THE CAR TURNED ON, I HAD MY BRAKE PEDDLE PRESSED, AS I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE THECAR MOVED AND STOPPED IN A VIOLENT WAY TO A STOP, I TRIED GENTLY LETTING GO OF THE BRAKE PADDLE AND AGAIN THE CAR MOVED SWIFTLY WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED TO A VIOLENT STOP. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY LOW BEAMS AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE TIME BETWEEN THEM BURNING OUT GETS SHORTER EVERY TIME. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT BRANDS AND QUALITY OF BULBS, AND I ALWAYS REPLACE THEM IN PAIRS. MY LAST TWO PAIRS ARE SO DIM THAT I CANNOT EVEN SEE THE ROAD. CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM CAR SHUTS OFF AND CAN NOT RESTART, TRIED SYSTEM RESET PER MANUAL BUT WOULD NOT CLEAR HYBRID. TOWED TO DEALER, DTC CODE P3004-800, TECH SAID THIS WAS THE ONLY CODE, HAD RECALL EOE REFLASH 04-14-2014 IPM EXTENDED 15 YEARS. CAR WAS IN MOTION PER WIFE. (IT HAD BEEN RAINING) THE DTC P3004-800 POWER CABLE MALFUNCTION
CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE, OR REVERSE IT SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL SINCE FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUG 2010. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA PRIUS III 2010 (FROM THE DEALERSHIP TOYOTA OF KEARNEY MESA IN SAN DIEGO) IN 2010. THE CAR FROM THE BEGINNING WOULD SHIFT BACK TO NEUTRAL WHEN I SET IT TO DRIVE OR REVERSE. I BOUGHT THE CAR AND AM THE ONLY OWNER). AFTER I ENCOUNTER THIS, WITHIN THE WEEK I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT (SAN DIEGO KEARNY MESA) AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. YES, IT WAS A PROBLEM AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THIS HAS HAPPEN TO MY CAR FROM WEEK 1. NOW 5 YEARS LATER, TODAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN "D" OR REVERSE. I TRIED AT LEAST FOR 10 MINUTES. I CALLED A DEALERSHIP NOW IN SEATTLE (SINCE I TAKE MY CAR HERE FOR SERVICE) AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEVER HEARD ABOUT IT. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM/BUG DOES HAPPEN. TODAY I COULD NOT SET MY CAR TO DRIVE OR REVERSE FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. MY STEPS: 1. DEPRESS POWER BUTTON (TO TURN ON) 1.1. WAIT ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS 2. DEPRESS THE BREAK + ENGAGE IN D (DRIVE) OR (R) REVERSE. 3. THE CAR GOES TO "N" NEUTRAL AND CANNOT BE PUT IN GEAR DRIVE OR REVERSE. 4. TURN CAR OFF. GO BACK TO STEP 1 UNTIL YOUR CAR ENGAGES.
WHILE IN MOTION AT 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET(BRIDGE), ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO LESS THAN 20MPH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AT 20 TO A REPAIR SHOP. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY WITH LIMITED OR NO SHOULDER OR WHILE IN THE LEFT LANE, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS AND DEADLY ACCIDENT..SINCE TOYOTA FAILED TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS PROBLEM, I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS FAILURE OF THE INTELLIGENT POWER MODULE (IPM), PART OF THE HYBRID INVERTER. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AS PART OF THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM. I AM INCLUDING A PDF THAT SHOWS THE DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED BY HAWTHORNE AUTO AS WELL AS A COPY OF A LETTER FROM TOYOTA THAT I NEVER RECEIVED. I CANNOT OVERSTATE THE POTENTIAL DANGER THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE. A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER MIGHT HAVE PANICKED. CERTAINLY, IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED - DRIVERS GENERALLY AND REASONABLY DO NOT EXPECT CARS GOING 60 TO SLOW DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON TO 20. TOYOTA HAS DETERMINED THAT THIS PROBLEM MERITS ONLY A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT" RATHER THAN A RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. I HOPE THAT NHTSA WILL TAKE STEPS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL BEFORE SOME INNOCENT PERSON DIES AS A RESULT OF THIS SERIOUS DEFECT. I REPLACED BOTH HEADLAMPS AFTER HAVING THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM GO OUT ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. THIS MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK, IN THE DARK, I HAD THAT SAME LAMP GO OUT AGAIN. I TURNED AROUND TO HEAD BACK HOME WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE LAMP WENT OUT AS WELL. I WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM HOME AT LEAST BUT THIS IS COULD HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS.

THE CONTACT COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V536000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
BOTH HEADLIGHTS (LOW BEAM) GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. NO APPARENT ISSUE WITH THE FUSES. REPLACEMENT BULBS EXPERIENCE A SHORTER THAN EXPECTED (APPROX. 6 WEEKS) LIFE BEFORE BURNING OUT AGAIN.
MY CARS LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAIL QUITE OFTEN; SOMETIMES LASTING LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. AT OTHER TIMES, THE BULBS PUT OUT VERY LITTLE LIGHT. THE FAILURES MOST OFTEN HAPPEN WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE FIRST TURNED ON, OR WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM.
HEADLIGHTS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT. WE HAVE CHANGED ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS AT LEAST SIX TIMES SINCE MAY 2015. THIS HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY, GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS WILL BURN OUT. WHEN YOU CHANGE THEM, WILL LAST A COUPLE WEEKS TO MONTHS. VERY SCARY WHEN GOING DOWN A TWO LANE BACK COUNTRY ROAD AT NIGHT. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I ASKED LOCAL DEALERABOUT REPAIR/REPLACEMENT BUT COULDN'T GET SPECIFICS AND LET IT SLIDE. THIS INNER FENDER PROVIDES STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AS WELL AS SHIELDING THE WASHER TANK AND PARTS OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT'S INNARDS. LACKING THAT INTEGRITY, AND WITH SOME CONNECTOR HOLES TORN, WIND GUSTING AT ROAD SPEEDS (AND FURTHER SNAGGING) OFTEN CAUSES THE WRAP-AROUND PART OF THE FRONT BUMPER TO PULL LOOSE FROM ITS "LEGO-LIKE SNAPS" INTO THE FENDER. WERE THINGS TO TEAR LOOSE AT ROAD SPEEDS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY THE "SHRAPNEL" COULD CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS. SPECIFIC DATES UNKNOWN-HAS BEEN A CONTINUING ISSUE. --SO DATE BELOW IS, THEREFORE, ARBITRARY.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,413. WARNING LIGHTS FOR BRAKE SYSTEM, ABS, ELECTRONIC BRAKE SYSTEM (YELLOW EXCLAMATION POINT IN A CIRCLE), AND TRACTION CONTROL. DIAGNOSED BY BROWN TOYOTA IN CHARLOTTESVILLE VA AS FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER, ACCUMULATOR, AND MASTER CYLINDER. BROWN TOYOTA SAID IT WAS A RECURRING PROBLEM THEY HAVE ENCOUNTERED AND THEY HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS ABOUT IT. ESTIMATE WAS $5800. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CONTACTED. WAS TOLD IT IS NOT ONE OF THE 2010 CARS COVERED BY THE RECALL DESPITE BEING THE SAME FAILURE AND NO COMPENSATION WAS OFFERED.
MY PRIUS IS BURNING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. MORE THAN A QUART EVERY 1000 MILES.
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, 84,000 MILES: EXPERIENCED LOSS OF OIL, TOOK TO DEALER WHO TOPPED OFF AND ASKED ME TO RETURN. RETURNED AT 85,790 MILES AFTER FURTHER LOSS OF OIL (DOWN TWO QUARTS). THE TOYOTA MECHANIC HAD TO CALL TOYOTA, WHO STATED THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. THE PCV STICKS OPEN, RESULTING IN OIL BEING SPRAYED WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG. REPAIR, WHICH INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF SEVERAL PARTS, ESTIMATED AT $629.00. THE TOYOTA SERVICE TECH WAS NOT CONFIDENT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE NEEDED AGAIN, AND BLAMED USE OF ETHANOL IN GASOLINE AS THE CULPRIT. HOWEVER, ETHANOL HAS BEEN IN USE SINCE WELL BEFORE THIS MODEL WAS RELEASED ON THE MARKET. TOYOTA KNOWS IT HAS A PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.

VEHICLES BRAKES ARE SPONGY AND UNPREDICTABLE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED TO DO A BRAKE FLUID EXCHANGE AND NOW THE PROBLEM HAS GONE AWAY. THIS ISSUE SEEMS VERY SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V235000, WHERE NITROGEN ENTERS THE BRAKE FLUID AND MAKES THE BRAKES LESS RESPONSIVE. HOWEVER, THE DEALER SAID THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THAT RECALL AND I WAS CHARGED $150 FOR THE REPAIR.....UPDATED 12/02/15 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY AND WERE UNPREDICTABLE AT LOW SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 20 MPH. At around 1000,000 miles my Toyota Prius started burning oil like crazy. The dealer did an oil consumption test and confirmed the problem. I had to have my engine rebuilt because the rings were not seating properly. I had to bear all costs even though this is clearly a manufacturing default.
