TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 18 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CRASHING INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT HAD TO BE PRIED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED THREE FRACTURED BONES IN THE RIGHT FOOT, 3 TOES, A SEVERE STRAIN IN THE RIGHT ANKLE, AND A CONCUSSION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED AND THE INDICATION OF THIS LIGHT INDICATES THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. THE TOYOTA DEALER HAS DETERMINED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE HAS WARN OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V053000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE INVERTER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WHEN APPLYING THE BREAKS BEFORE AND OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, THE BREAKING WILL DISENGAGE AND THEN REENGAGE. IT WILL ALSO HAPPEN WITH POT HOLES. YOU GET THE FEELING THE CAR WON'T STOP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPING FOR YEAR AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT GIVES DIFFERENT ANSWERS TO THE CAUSE.
ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH ASSOCIATED WITH ANTILOCK BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE ARE ON. THE BRAKING HAS CHANGED AND DOES NOT SLOW THE CAR AS FAST AS IT USED TO, ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT THE FIRST TIME I DROVE IT WITH THE LIGHTS ON THAT MORNING. CAR HAS 50,394 MILES ON IT, NOTICED ALL THE LIGHTS ON WHEN STARTED CAR IN MORNING, BRAKES APPEARED TO WORK NORMALLY WHEN BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, BUT AT HIGHER SPEED STOPS THE CAR TRAVELS A LOT FARTHER AND TAKES A LOT MORE EFFORT TO STOP.
MY CAR IS CONSUMING ABOUT 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES, SOMETIMES EVEN MORE. I HAVE ALWAYS GOT THE OIL REPLACED IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER AND WITH ONLY AROUND 118,000 MILES ON IT, THIS IS VERY TROUBLING. MY DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE CHARGED ME UPWARDS OF $4,000 TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET AND THE OIL PAN GASKET SAYING IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DIDN'T. THEY DID THE OIL COMPRESSION CHECK WITH NO SIGN OF WHERE THE OIL WAS GOING AS THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL LEAKS ACCORDING TO THEM. THEY REFUSE TO THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM, WHICH I THINK IS A BLATANT LIE. THEY KNOW THAT THIS SHOULDN'T BE THE CASE AND WANT ME TO GET THE ENGINE REBUILT FOR AN ADDITIONAL $4,500, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS FOR A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I WANT TOYOTA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AS I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY KEEP ADDING OIL, WHICH IS WRONG!
THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BURN OUT. MY CAR IS AT 108,500 MILES, AND I HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. I HAVE HAD THIS OCCUR WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 5. ANOTHER DRIVER ON THE HIGHWAY FLASHED LIGHTS AT ME, PULLED UP NEXT TO ME, TO INDICATE THAT MY LIGHTS WERE OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON FOR OVER 20 MILES. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, BECAUSE IT WAS BLINDING TO OTHER DRIVERS. HOWEVER, IF I HAD NOT DONE THIS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH NO LIGHTS AT ALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES AFTER REPLACING THE BULBS, WHICH WILL LAST FOR A WHILE ,BUT QUICKLY STOP WORKING. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS EVEN ONCE.
THE VEHICLE RUNS OK AND A FEW MINUTES LATER THE YELLOW TRIANGLE TURNS ON, AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STARTS TO LOSE POWER. AFTER A FEW MORE MINUTES THE RED STEERING WHEEL LIGHT COMES ON ALONG WITH THE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" MESSAGE AND THE REST OF THE LIGHTS AND THE VEHICLES LOSES ALL POWER AND STOPS. IT WILL NORMALLY TURN BACK ON BUT THERE WAS ONE OCCASION WHERE IT DIDN'T AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO PUSH THE CAR TO A PARKING LOT. I TOOK THE CAR IN ON THE RECALL WHICH SHOULD COVER THIS BUT ALL THEY DID WAS UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AND BLAME THE ISSUE ON A CAR ACCIDENT. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE AS JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BUT IT SOUNDS TO ME THAT THEY COULD HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE UNDER THE RECALL.
THIS HAPPENED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING 40MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING. THEN THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND I GUIDED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD START BUT THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT FUNCTION AND THE (DIGITAL) SPEEDOMETER NUMBERS DISAPPEARED. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED A VALVE AND TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED. TWO DAYS LATER (AFTER DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT INCIDENT ON SEVERAL TRIPS FOR AT LEAST 40 MILES) THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED, HOWEVER THIS TIME I WAS TRAVELLING 50 MPH WHILE ENTERING A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR.
WE PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN SPRING OF 2013. WE HAD NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS UNTIL ONE SIDE HAD STOPPED WORKING IN MAY 2015. AS WE ALWAYS HAVE DONE WITH OUR VEHICLES, WE WENT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND BOUGHT THE CORRECT HEAD LIGHTS FOR OUR MAKE, YEAR & MODEL. WE REPLACED BOTH OF THEM IN MAY AND IN AUGUST (3 MONTHS LATER), BOTH HAD GONE OUT WITH THE INITIAL OUTAGE HAVING OCCURED WHILE I WAS USING THEM IN THE DARK ON A FREEWAY. LUCKILY I HAD BRIGHTS THAT STILL WORKED BUT I HAVE SINCE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH LIGHTS AGAIN AND THEY STILL REMAIN UN-WORKING. I AM SCHEDULING REPAIRS, HOWEVER, THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR DEFECT EITHER IN THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING OR POSSIBLY RELATED TO FUSE SHORTAGES. WE HAVE MADE SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO REPAIR SHOPS, OTHER PRIUS OWNERS, AS WELL AS READ MANY SAFETY CONCERN FORUMS REGARDING THIS VERY POPULAR ISSUE EVEN WITH 2010 MODELS. I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA SEEMS TO TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HIGH-RISK HEADLIGHT FAILURE IN PRIUS MODELS UP TO 2009 BUT THIS SEEMS FLAT OUT RIDICULOUS AND I SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO RETURN HOME BEFORE DARK OR BE FORCED TO DRIVE WITH MY BRIGHTS WHILE ONCOMING TRAFFIC FLASHES AT ME AS IF I'M BEING INCONSIDERATE.
AT 92,000 MILES MY VEHICLE STARTED TO BURN OIL EXCESSIVELY, I MADE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DID MULTIPLE TESST AND CONTINUED TO MAINTAIN(PER TOYOTA CORPORATE) THAT I WAS WITHIN TOYOTA GUIDELINES. THIS CAUSES ME TO FILL OIL EVERY 400-600 MILES TO BE SAFE AND I HAVE FOUND IT COMPLETELY DEVOID OF OIL MANY TIMES.I UNDERSTAND FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOME OF THE PRIUS MODELS HAVE ALSO HAD THIS ISSUE AND HAVE BEEN SHOWING UP AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS ME CONCERNED - THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AS MY ENGINE COULD COMPLETELY CEASE AT ANY TIME CAUSING A MASSIVE SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE ALL THE RECORDS AND FORMAL COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA ON FILE. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH THEM IN GOOD FAITH UNTIL NOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS WERE VERY DEEM AND VISIBILITY WAS DIMINISHED. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WAS OUT AND TWO DAYS LATER THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED. THE LIGHT BULBS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS WERE REPLACED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO GET A DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, 2-3 QT PER 5000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM HAVENLOCK, NC ON US 70, US 258, US 58 AND US 264. I NOTICED THAT MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE VERY DIM MAKING IT VERY HARD TO SEE ROAD MARKING OR SIGNS. THERE IS A STRETCH OF US 58 WHERE THEY ARE REPAVING AND THEY ARE NO ROAD MARKING AT ALL AND I COULD NOT SEE WHERE MY LANE (2 WAY TRAFFIC). I CONSIDERED THIS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT THE HEADLIGHT ARE DIM AND COULD HAVE LED TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE PRIUS 2010. NOT ABLE TO SEE MORE THAN 30 FEET AHEAD ON A VERY DARK NIGHT IS VERY SCARY AND HAD ME SHAKING.
I LIVE IN WILLIAMSBURG, VA. IT WAS VERY HUMID IN WILLIAMSBURG THIS SUMMER. THE INSIDE OF THE DASHBOARD HAS FUNGUS AND MOLD GROWING IN IT. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY 2010 PRIUSES. FUNGUS AND MOLD GROWING IN THE DASHBOARD OF THE CAR IS A MAJOR HEALTH HAZARD. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT. THE FUNGUS AND MOLD ARE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES. THE DEALER IS QUOTING $2,000 AS THE COST TO FIX THIS DEFECT IN THE 2010 PRIUS.
EXCESSIVE USE OF OIL BEGAN AT 80,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR MY MODEL AND IF I KEPT AN EYE ON IT AND KEPT OIL IN IT EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK. I DO NOT GET A WARNING LIGHT. ONE TIME I HAD TO PUT OVER 3 QUARTS INTO IT--NO WARNING. I NOW CHECK IT EVERY 800 MILES AND MUST PUT A QUART OF OIL IN ABOUT EVERY 1000 MILES.
I HIT A CAR ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR AS HE PULLED SUDDENLY OUT IN FRONT OF ME. THE FORCE AND ANGLE CAUSED MY CAR TO ROLLOVER 3-4 TIMES. THE DRIVER FRONT OR SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR ROLLED OVER 3-4 TIMES COMPLETELY. IT CRUSHED THE CAR TOTALLY. PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG (AND NO PASSENGER IN THE CAR) WENT OFF BUT NOT DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V235000 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. KEEPS BLOWING THE LOW BEAM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE , 6 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS.
DRIVING ON A EXTREMELY ROUGH STREET, MY CAR JERKED TO THE LEFT. I TRIED BRAKING, BUT UNMOVABLE OBJECTS (STREET SIGN AND PHONE JUNCTION BOX) PROVIDED THE STOP. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT FORCE OF CAR PUSHED ME HARD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD MY SAFETY BELT ON, PLUS BACK BRACE. EMTS NOTED 60% O2, IN ICU ON RESPIRATOR FOR A WEEK, HOSPITAL FOR 2 WKS. DISTINCTLY, I REMEMBER THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT.
WAITING FOR REPLY FROM TOYOTA: INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION PAST 100K MILES NORMAL FOR A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AT 1 QUART PER 2000 MILES? OIL SOOT WIPED FROM EXHAUST PIPE. YELLOW LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT AND BEEP SOUNDS WHEN MAKING HARD TURNS. ON JUNE 1, 2015 AT 101131 MILES, OIL LEVEL WAS DOWN 2 QUARTS AND REQUESTED AN OIL CHANGE AND FILTER FROM DEALER. ABOUT 2000 MILES LATER ON JUNE 26, 2015 AT 103300 MILES, 1 QUART OF 5-30 SAE MOBILE 1 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL FOR HIGH MILEAGE CARS WAS ADDED TO TOP OFF.
ON MAY 30, 2015, OUR HOME BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE FIREFIGHTERS ARE CERTAIN THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS MY 2010 PRIUS - THEY KNOW THE FIRE STARTED IN THE REAR OF THE GARAGE, THE ONLY OTHER ITEM IN THAT AREA WAS A BICYCLE. ARSON, FAULTY WIRING AND ACCIDENTS WERE RULED OUT. INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE, BUT THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED AN ARC BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND THE RELAY SWITCH. MY HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE CARRIER (ERIE) IS TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER THEY SHOULD EXPEND THE ADDITIONAL $1,500 TO OPEN THE RELAY SWITCH BOX TO SEE IF THEY CAN DETERMINE IF THE ARC WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE, OR A RESULT. FROM THE VIDEO FOOTAGE, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE WATER BEING POURED ONTO THE GARAGE INCREASED THE INTENSITY OF THE FIRE, WHICH WAS DUE TO THE MAGNESIUM BATTERY. A HEROIC FIREFIGHTER THREW HIMSELF THROUGH THE WALL OF OUR SECOND-STORY BEDROOM TO RESCUE US. MY HUSBAND WAS NOT BREATHING WHEN HE WAS REMOVED FROM HOME, BUT WE HAVE BOTH RECOVERED. WE HAD BEEN OUT TO DINNER EARLIER IN THE EVENING, BUT THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED IN OUR GARAGE FOR SEVERAL HOURS. I HAVE HEARD OF MANY OTHER PRIUS FIRES, AND WANTED TO ALERT YOU TO OUR EXPERIENCE.
I HAVE OWNED TWO PRIUS AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE HAD THE SAME BREAKING ISSUE. WHEN YOU ARE AT LOWER SPEEDS AND HIT A POTHOLE OR BIG BUMP WHILE BREAKING, THERE'S A SUDDEN 'JOLT' AND IT FEELS AS IF THE BREAKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY RELEASED MOMENTARILY. IT ALMOST FEELS AS THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD. I TRY TO AVOID POTHOLES, ETC ANYWAYS, BUT I AM EXTRA VIGILANT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AS I FEEL IT HEIGHTENS THE CHANCE OF A CRASH DUE TO INCREASED DECELERATION TIME. LAST NIGHT, I WAS COMING UP TO AN INTERSECTION THAT HAD A YIELD SIGN. THE CAR IN-FRONT OF ME STOPPED. I HIT MY BREAKS, BUT WHILE BREAKING, I HIT A POTHOLE (IT AS DARK SO I COULDN'T SEE IT) MY BREAKS SUDDENLY BEHAVED AS DESCRIBED ABOVE - THEY LET GO FOR A MOMENT AND THE CAR SOMEWHAT JOLTED FORWARD. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN-TIME AND REAR-ENDED THE DRIVER AHEAD OF ME. I WAS ALWAYS AFRAID THAT BECAUSE OF THIS BREAKING ISSUE THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN - AND NOW IT HAS. I KNOW THERE WAS A PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION AND A PARTIAL RECALL BUT IT DIDN'T AFFECT ALL OF THE 2010 PRODUCTION VEHICLES, JUST A PORTION. I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE RE-INVESTIGATED AS MY CAR AND COUNTLESS OTHER CARS (BOTH INVOLVED AND NOT INVOLVED IN THE LAST RECALL) ARE (STILL) MALFUNCTIONING WHEN IT COMES TO THE BREAKING SYSTEM AT SLOWER SPEEDS WHEN ON ROUGH ROADS / ENCOUNTERING POTHOLES / BUMPS.
VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMP BULBS STOPPED WORKING (HEADLAMPS ON/OFF NO CHANGE EXCEPT THE UPPER BULB ON THE REAR LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED W/HEADLAMPS/HIGH BEAMS ON AS THEY SHOULD BE WHILE THE REST OF THE LIGHT IS INDIFFERENT TO BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATION, CHANGING FROM PARK/DRIVE ETC). THE BULBS WERE REPLACED BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTS, SUSPECT IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WIRING HARNESS. PLEASE REMEDY BECAUSE ANY ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC IS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND MAY NOT EVEN BE OBLIGATORY IF A KNOWN ISSUE & COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION EXIST. REGARDLESS OF COST TOYOTA SHOULD OFFER ANY REMEDY THAT PROTECTS THE SAFETY OF THEIR CONSUMERS. I JUST DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY A BUNCH OF MONEY TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WAS A LOOSE SCREW. ANYWAY, FAULTY BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS INCREASE THE POSSIBILITY OF COLLISION & ENDANGER OTHER DRIVERS WHEN A DEFECT OF THIS NATURE PRESENTS ITSELF. BOTH RIGHT & LEFT ARE AFFECTED, THERE IS NO VISIBLE WARNING THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING RATHER THAN DRIVING, STOPPED, IDLING, OR ACCELERATING.

THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON APRIL 24, 2015 ONLY THIS TIME THE HEADLIGHT FELL TO REST ON SOME PLASTIC AND CAUSED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY TO START ON FIRE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. I USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. I BELIEVE THE SOCKET PART OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STALLED AND STATED, "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". STOPPED THE CAR RIGHT AWAY CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOR EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A TOYOTA FACILITY WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED INVERTER, WHICH IS PART OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM. WHILE DECELERATING DUE TO APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL IF THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS A POTHOLE OR OTHER DEEP ROAD IMPERFECTION THE BRAKING CUTS OUT AND THE VEHICLE RESUMES COASTING IMMEDIATELY EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. HARDER APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NECESSARY TO RESUME VEHICLE BRAKING. SUBSEQUENT BRAKING POWER IS MUCH REDUCED COMPARED TO NORMAL BRAKING AND SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE IS NECESSARY. NORMAL BRAKING MAY BE REESTABLISHED BY LIFTING THE FOOD OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY AND RE-DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE SEVERITY OF THE SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING (COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING) IS SHOCKING, ALARMING, AND PANIC ENDUCING AND RESULTS IN WHIPLASH TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AS THE PASSENGERS, BEING UNCONSCIOUSLY BRACED FOR DECELERATION, ARE SUDDENLY JOLTED BACK INTO THEIR SEATS. WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THE SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING AND SUBSEQUENT WEAK BRAKING POWER DESPITE STRONG BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSION IS HIGHLY ALARMING. THE MOST REPRODUCIBLE SITUATION IN WHICH THIS HAPPENS IS ON DRY PAVEMENT WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY AND DECELERATING ON A STRAIGHT OR SLIGHTLY CURVED EXIT RAMP WITH ONE OR MORE POTHOLES. THE PHENOMENON OCCURS IN OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES AS WELL WHERE A POTHOLE IS ENCOUNTERED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS UNDER BRAKING.
AS I WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, THE CAR JOLTED AS IF I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND THE BRAKES LOST PRESSURE RESULTING IN ME HAVING TO PRESS THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND AND I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO GET IT TO STOP. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AFTER I FIRST GOT THE VEHICLE IN 2010. IN SEPT. 2010, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND, CAUSING ME TO SLIDE INTO THE ROW AND RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WILL ALSO JOLT WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED WHILE DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE OR BUMP. THEY CLAIM THAT EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT FINE ON THE BRAKES AND THEY CAN NOT GET IT TO REPLICATE THE JOLT OR PRESSURE FAILURE. THE SERVICE ENTRY IS NOT HINGED OR REINFORCED IN ANY WAY TO THE BELLY PROTECTOR. THE COST TO REPAIR WAS $271.37 FOR PARTS AND $50 FOR INSTALLATION. TOYOTA DECLINED TO EXTEND THE BRAKE RECALL THAT COVERED 2010 CARS WITH A PRODUCTION DATE BEFORE NOVEMBER 2009. OUR CAR HAS A MARCH 2010 PRODUCTION DATE. CLEARLY TOYOTA WAS ASSEMBLING CARS WITH FAULTY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS AND BOOSTERS AND THEY SHOULD EXTEND THE RECALL TO COVER THOSE CARS. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $2760. *TR

WITHIN A FRACTION OF A SECOND, THE CAR ACCELERATED BEYOND CONTROL. SHE COULD NOT STEER OR STOP THE CAR. THE CAR JUMPED A CURB, HIT A LIGHT POOL AND LANDED ON A GRASSY AREA. TIRE MARKS REVEAL THAT THE CAR EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN RUSH OF ACCELERATION BEYOND CONTROL 'UNINTENDED ACCELERATION.' MY WIFE IS STILL UNDER DOCTOR'S OBSERVATION. PRIUS 2010 AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 27, 2015, OUR HOUSE BURNED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE WE WERE ASLEEP. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE NEAR VICINITY OF THE RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT OF THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED JUST BEFORE THE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 25, 2015 AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS OFF AT THE TIME AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING, THE CAR EVIDENTLY CAUGHT FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY AT APPROXIMATELY 2 A.M. WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE GARAGE DOOR WAS CLOSED. BY THE TIME WE WOKE UP, THE GARAGE WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WE WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. HOWEVER, OUR HOUSE WAS TOO SEVERELY DAMAGED (FIRE, SMOKE AND WATER) AFTER THE FIRE TO BE LIVABLE, AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING REBUILT.
