CAR CAME OUT OF THE CAR WASH AND AS I GOT READY TO PULL OUT THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS A RAPID BEEP. PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND FELT NO RESISTANCE LIKE BRAKES DID NOT EXIST. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER (RIGHT TOYOTA ON FRANK LLOYD - SCOTTSDALE AZ) - DEALER RAN A SOFTWARE TO FIX IT (PART OF A RECALL) BUT THAT DID NOT FI X THE ISSUE. DEALER ASKED ME TO HAVE HYDRO BOOSTER PUMP AND THE ASSEMBLY REPLACED - THEY CHARGED ME $4200 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I WAS FORCED TO PAY AS THEY SAID THEY TRIED TO FIX IT THROUGHT HE SOFTWARE BUT IT DID NOT. I FEEL THAT TOYOTA IS REPSONSIBLE FOR THE SYSTEM FAILURE - THE BRAKES ARE CRITICAL - THEY SUDDENLY STOPED WORKING. IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF I WAS ON THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE FAILURE SHOULD BE GRADUAL AND THERE SHOULD BE A CERTAIN WARNING IF THE PUMP WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I NEED YOUR HELP IN RESOLVING THIS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBELF RO PAYING THE INVOICE.
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 70MPH I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD BUT SHORT. ABOUT 5 SECONDS LATER A BUNCH OF WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. PRETTY MUCH HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP SO I WOULD GET OFF THE BRAKES AND START THE SLOWING/STOPPING PROCESS OVER AGAIN. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE MODE (ABS ACCUMULATOR NITROGEN GAS LEAKED INTO BRAKE HYDRAULIC FLUID WHEN ACCUMULATOR CRACKED) AS OTHER CARS (PRIUS AND LEXUS HYBRIDS) THAT TOYOTA DID RECALL BUT MY CAR IS OUTSIDE OF THE CURRENT RECALL SCOPE. IF THIS WAS NOT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S DRY ROAD A MAJOR INCIDENT COULD HAVE TAKEN PLACE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE GRABBING/ LOCKING UP OF THE BRAKES. *TR
BOTH LOW BEAMS WENT OUT AT SAME TIME AT NIGHT. HIGH BEAMS OPERATIONAL. BULBS HAD BEEN REPLACED A MONTH AGO. A QUICK SEARCH FINDS MANY INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING. IT SHOULDN'T BE THE BULBS. MAKES FOR VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING DURING NIGHT DRIVING. HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH HIGH BEAMS ONLY AT NIGHT. FELT ENDANGERED AND VERY UNSAFE BOTH FOR MYSELF AND THE PUBLIC. *TR
AFTER RETURNING TO VEHICLE, LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO PROPERLY ILLUMINATE. I REPLACED BOTH BULBS WITH NEW ONES, AND THEY STILL FAIL TO CAST ENOUGH LIGHT. THE BULBS APPEAR TO BE ON, BUT ARE TOO DIM TO BE EFFECTIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM WORK ON A COUNTRY ROAD AT NIGHT WHEN MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS BOTH WENT OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON. THIS IS THE 4TH SET OF HEADLIGHTS IN A YEAR THAT WE HAVE REPLACED. *TR
THE DASH DISPLAY MPH AND MILEAGE TOTALLY WENT BLACK. LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND SEEMS LIKE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. SOUNDS LIKE TOYOTA USE TO COVER THIS BEFORE THIS YEAR MODEL, BUT NOT NOW, EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL HAPPENING. THEY MAY HAVE DONE THEIR DASH ALITTLE DIFFERENT, BUT IT IS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY LOW BEAN HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT ON MY PRIUS. I HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH OEM REPLACEMENT BULBS AND OTHER HIGH QUALITY AFTER MARKET BULBS AND NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT IS IT CONTINUES TO BURN OUT. THEY CONTINUALLY BURN OUT AFTER VERY LITTLE USE AND IN A VERY SHORT TIME FRAME. I MAKE SURE I FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED HANDLING AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES TO ENSURE I DON'T COMPROMISE OR WRONGLY INSTALL THE BULBS. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I NEVER KNOW WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS ARE GOING TO FAIL. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT NIGHT AND IN WEATHER WHERE HEADLIGHTS WERE NEEDED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND FROM READING FORUMS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA.
MOTOR CONSUMES EXCESS OIL. MUST ADD SEVERAL QUARTS IN BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES. OCCASIONALLY WHEN FIRST STARTED, THE MOTOR WILL STALL OR SPUTTER.
I HAVE NOTICE A DEFINITE RELEASE IN BRAKING ACTION WHEN MY 2010 PRIUS GOES OVER A PATCH OF BUMPY ROAD, WITHIN 1 MINUTE OF LEAVING MY HOME AND GOING DOWN THE BLOCK. I EXPERIENCE THIS "RELEASE" OF BRAKING AS A SUDDEN BRIEF ACCELERATION THAT OCCURS WHILE THERE IS PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN WHILE GOING OVER THE BUMPY PATCH OF ROAD ( A 20 FOOT STRETCH OF ROAD WITH NUMEROUS SHALLOW POTHOLES). I BOUGH THIS CAR USED IN SEPTEMBER 2013. (IT HAD 80,000 MILES ON IT AND A HISTORY OF TRAVEL OVER GRAVEL ROADS). ON MARCH 20, 2014, THE LOCAL DEALER DID THE E0E RECALL REPAIR ON THE MOTOR GENERATOR ECU AND THE POWER MANAGEMENT ECU, TO CORRECT ISSUES RELATED TO HARD ACCELERATION. AT THE SAME TIME, THE DEALER DID THE OLDER TOYOTA RECALL REPAIR ON THE BRAKE PRESSURE ACCUMULATOR ISSUE. I HAVE NOT NOTICED THIS BRAKING RELEASE ISSUE LATER IN THE DAY. IT SEEMS TO BE MOST NOTICEABLE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, IN THE FIRST MINUTE OR TWO OF DRIVING.
HEADLIGHTS STARTED GETTING DIM. REPLACED BULBS WITH NEW HID BULBS. HEADLIGHTS STILL DIM. DEALER CLAIMS WATER IS IN BOTH HEADLIGHTS. REQUIRES ME TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES FOR $1,000. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AS AN ENGINEER I CLAIM POOR DESIGN.
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

TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR CERTAIN INTERNAL MALFUNCTIONS OF THE INTELLIGENT POWER MODULE {\9IPM). THIS WARRANTY IS EXTENDED FOR 15 YEARS. IN THE EVENT THIS DESCRIBED CONDITION IN THE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM OCCUR,AND, IF VERIFIED, AN APPROPRIATE REMEDY WILL BE PERFORMED. HOWEVER TOYOTA FURTHER STATES, "THE WARNING LIGHTS AND STORED HYBRID SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) CAN BE TRIGGERED DUE TO CONDITIONS DETECTED NOT SPECIFIC TO THE INVERTER ASSEMBLY AND ITS INTERNAL COMPONENTS. THESE ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS MAY REQUIRE DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS NOT SPECIFICALLY COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF THE CONDITION IS NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT, YOU MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC FEES AND ANY OTHER REPAIRS YOU MAY "DECIDE" TO HAVE PERFORMED. ANY AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CAN DETERMINE IF A CONDITION IS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, LARRY MILLER TOYOTA, HAS ALREADY RECOMMENDED COSTLY INSPECTIONS TO BE PERFORMED FOR THE HYBRID BATTERY COOLANT SYSTEM, WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN RECOMMENDED BY A TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OR ANY OTHER QUALIFIED ENGINEERING PERSON AT TOYOTA. NOW TOYOTA IS ASKING THE OWNERS TO TRUST THEIR DEALER'S IF WHAT THE DEALER'S ARE DECIDING NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED. THE TOYOTA DEALERS DO NOT ENGINEER, TEST NOR MANUFACTURE THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA CORPORATION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE NOT THE DEALER. WHAT SPECIFICALLY MAY CAUSE THE DTCS TO BE TRIGGERED TO SIMULATE A PROBLEM WITH THE IPM? WHAT ARE THESE CONDITIONS, ARE THEY A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AND, HOW CAN I AS A CONSUMER, BE 100% CONFIDENT THAT IF A DTC CONDITION OCCURS IN MY VEHICLE WHAT EXACTLY IS THE CAUSE. II THE DEALER IS LEFT TO DECIDE, WILL I BE TREATED FAIRLY. TOYOTA IS THE CAR MANUFACTURER NOT THEIR DEALERS. *TR
I WAS GOING UP THE ON RAMP TO I -75 EXIT 341 IN FLORIDA WHEN I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKING AND THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. CARS WERE COMING AT ME AT 70 MPH AND COULD HAVE KILLED MY WIFE AND I. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM OF CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT COMING ON AND LOSING ALL POWER. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED A SAP TO PREVENT SO EONE FROM BEING KILLED. *TR
BACKING UP IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT OF AN APARTMENT IN SUNNYVALE THE EVENING OF NOVEMBER 20 APROX 22:00 HRS. AT 2 MPH OR LESS AN IMPACT WAS FELT TO REAR OF BUMPER FROM A STATIONARY OBJECT. VISIBILITY WAS POOR. AN AUTO BODY SHOP DETERMINED BUMPER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND NOT REPAIRABLE. PICTURES AVAILABLE. I FEEL BUMPER STANDARD SPELLED OUT BY NHTSA IS NOT MET BY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. *TR
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN A SMELL OF SMOKE WAS DETECTED. UPON STOPPING, SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WITHIN 3 MINUTES THE VEHICLE STARTED ON FIRE, EXTENDING TO THE ROLL UP GARAGE DOOR. THE FIRE BURNED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, PASSENGER AREA, GARAGE DOOR AND SIDING BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED. *TR
AFTER TAKING MY SON TO SCHOOL WHICH IS 2.2 MILES AWAY, CAME BACK HOME AND PARKED THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE BAY. BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, CAR GAVE OFF "HEATER SMELL" AND THE HEATER WAS TURNED OFF. MY WIFE CAME UP AND GOT ME UP, I WENT DOWN MAYBE 2 MINUTES AWAY AND FOUND THE CAR FULLY ENGULFED IN FIRE. FIRE SPREAD TO THE PORTION OF THE GARAGE BEFORE IT WAS PUT OF BY FIRE DEPARTMENT. *TR
PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WENT OUT FIRST THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE DRIVER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AND HAS NOW GONE OUT FOR THE 3RD TIME. HAD TO USE HIGH BEAMS ALL THE WAY HOME CAUSE I COULD HARDLY SEE ANYTHING WITH LOW BEAMS. HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER A FEW TIMES BY THE COPS FOR THIS PROBLEM. PULLED OVER 2 TIMES IN JUST ONE NIGHT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH BOTH LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. TURNED ON THE HIGH BEAM AND THEY WORKED OK. BOUGHT NEW BULBS THE NEXT DAY AND INSTALLED BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I DO NOT HAVE THE NEED TO DO MUCH NIGHT DRIVING. LAST SATURDAY, WHILE RETURNING FROM A FAMILY VISIT, NIGHT HAD APPROACHED. THE DIM LIGHTS WERE NEXT TO WORTHLESS. THE CARS APPROACHING ME FROM BEHIND LIT MY PATH. I HAD VISITED TOYOTA A FEW WEEKS BACK AND THEY ADVISED ME THE HEADLIGHT BULB WAS LOOSE. I TIGHTENED IT, BUT THAT NIGHT, THE ILLUMINATION OF THE HEADLIGHTS WAS LACKING. I RETURNED TO TOYOTA TODAY AND THEY TELL ME THESE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A "PROJECTOR" THAT IS BAD...BOTH SIDES! THERE IS NO RECALL OR MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT COVERS THE REPLACEMENT. THEY WILL GLADLY REPLACE THESE FOR $852.00. I HAVE REGARDED TOYOTA AS A TOP CONTENDER IN CAR MANUFACTURING. I AM TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED AND APPALLED THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED BY TOYOTA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CAME FROM A SIDE STREET, CROSSED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BUT THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BRUISED RIBS AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED SHOULDER INJURIES, BRUISES AND LACERATIONS TO THE RIGHT HAND. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH WITH HEAT ON AND ALL A SUDDEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ALL LIGHTS IN DASH BOARD CAME ONE WITH CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM SIGN AND ENGINE LOST POWER AND CAME TO COMPLETE STOP I PULLED OVER AND WAITED FEW MINUTES AFTER IT WAS FINE BUT WHEN EVER I TURN HEAT OR AC ON IT DOES THE SAME I DID MY RESEARCH IT LOOK LIKE INVERTER ISSUE OR THEY HAVE SOME CODE IN THERE SOFTWARE BECAUSE WE BOUGHT 2 CAR PRETTY MUCH SAME TIME AND BOTH HAS SAME PROBLEM SAME TIME AND THIS YEAR BOTH CARS HAD HYBRID BATTERY ISSUE WITH BOTH CAR SAME TIME TOYOTA SEND LETTERS TO 2013 AND 2014 PRIUS OWNER IF THEY EXPERIENCE SAME ISSUE ITS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT WE HAVE SAME ISSUE BUT THEY DIDN'T ADDRESS IT MEANS THEY KNOW. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS 'FAULTY AIR BAG ON DRIVER SIDE DUE TO WIRING HARNESS ISSUE'. I DID NOT EXPECT TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AS AIRBAGS ARE FEDERALLY REGULATED 'SAFETY' ITEMS. CAR WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. I DID MAKE A CLAIM TO TOYOTA AND PART WAS PAID FOR. HOWEVER, WORLD TOYOTA IN ATLANTA DID CHARGE ME $293 FOR THE LABOR. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN OFFER ON THIS MATTER.
I CONTINUE TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BRAKING WHEN GOING OVER A BUMPY SURFACE. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. MOST RECENTLY, WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. LUCKILY, THERE WAS ENOUGH DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (WHICH HAD ALSO APPLIED THE BRAKES). I AM AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT SOMEDAY. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT STOP SIGNS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES AND THEY ACT AS IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, WHICH IS LUDICROUS. I EVEN MENTIONED THE ECU RECALL/FIX REGARDING THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND TOLD THEM THAT MY VEHICLE HAD THE FIX APPLIED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FIX WAS NOT TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM I AM DESCRIBING. THEY INSIST THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. I TOLD THEM THAT I ASSUME THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO TELL CUSTOMERS THAT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT. I SEE SO MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP LEAKED NITROGEN INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 13V235000 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
ONCOMING CAR STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT WHILE I WAS PROCEEDING STRAIGHT IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE ONCOMING CAR THEN MADE A LEFT TURN ACROSS THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. I STARTED A TURN TO THE RIGHT ASSUMING THAT THE OTHER CAR WOULD SEE ME AND STOP. AT THE SAME TIME I HIT MY BRAKES. MY CAR SEEMED VERY SLOW TO DECELERATE. I NOW REALIZE THAT CAR BRAKES CAN GIVE MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT STOPPING. AT THE TIME, BECAUSE OF MY TRAINING AS MILITARY AND AIRLINE PILOT, I STAYED ON THE BRAKES AND DID NOT PUMP THEM. IN RETROSPECT, PUMPING THE BRAKES MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN THEM TO WORK. THE ANTI-SKID SYSTEM SEEMED TO BE INEFFECTIVE. I STRUCK THE OTHER CAR AT ITS RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT GOES OUT MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE WITH REMAINING HEADLIGHT. SWITCHED TO HIGH BEAMS WHICH WORKED OK UNTIL OPPOSING TRAFFIC APPEARED AND HAD TO SWITCH BACK TO LOW BEAM (SINGULAR). A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH OPPOSING HEADLIGHTS IN YOUR EYES AND NOT ENOUGH LIGHT FROM MY OWN CAR TO ILLUMINATE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. LATER, IT TURNED OUT THAT THE HEADLAMP BULB WAS OK AND "SOMETHING" WAS MAKING IT EITHER INTERMITTENT OR GO OUT COMPLETELY. SOMETIMES STRIKING THE HEADLIGHT LENS ASSEMBLY WITH THE HEEL OF YOUR HAND WOULD GET THE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON. MY WIFE RECENTLY WAS CITED FOR DRIVING WITH A HEADLIGHT OUT IN OUR LOCAL AREA. ON 4/24/14 I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO LYNCH TOYOTA IN MANCHESTER, CT IN RESPONSE TO A RECALL TO FIX A PROBLEM WHICH INVOLVED LOSING POWER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE INVOICE COVERING THE REPAIR INDICATED "SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR MG ECU AND POWER MANAGEMENT ECU AS PER CAMPAIGN EOE". ON 9/29/14 I WAS DRIVING IN MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC ON I-84 IN WEST HARTFORD, CT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO PASS A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE. AS I BEGAN TO PASS, THE ACCELERATOR SUDDENLY FAILED TO WORK AND THE ENGINE STOPPED AND WOULD NOT RESPOND EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR, ALTHOUGH I HAD NO POWER THE STEERING WORKED AND I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO THE SHOULDER ACROSS THE RIGHT LANE OF TRAFFIC. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, RESTARTED IT AND IT HAS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY SINCE. I RETURNED TO LYNCH TOYOTA ON 10/6/14 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED. THEY EXAMINED THE VEHICLE BUT WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG AND ADVISED ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT 800-331-4331 AND SPOKE WITH AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS "[XXX]". HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT SINCE THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. I ASKED HIM IF TOYOTA HAD RECEIVED OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BUT HE SAID THERE WAS NO WAY TO CROSS REFERENCE THAT INFORMATION. THE COMPANY'S CASE NUMBER OF MY COMPLAINT IS 1410062141. AT APPROXIMATELY 85,000 MILES, I NOTICED A LOW HUMMING/RUBBING SOUND COMING FROM MY WHEELS. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEEL BEARINGS TYPICALLY DON'T NEED TO BE REPLACED UNTIL AROUND 150,000-200,000 MILES, ON AVERAGE. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT WASN'T YET LOOSE AND THAT I COULD REPLACE IT WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I HAVE NOW NOTICED LOOSE STEERING AND THE SOUND HAS GROWN LOUDER, SO I WILL BE REPLACING THE BEARING SO THAT I DO NOT RISK THE WHEEL BREAKING OFF FROM MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2010. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE HEADLIGHT BULBS STARTED BURNING OUT REPEATEDLY, AS WELL AS THE MARKER BULBS AND THE LICENSE PLATE BULBS. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS CHILLING. I RETURNED FROM A TRIP, GOT OFF THE PLANE, PICKED UP MY CAR AT AIRPORT PARKING, TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND THEY WERE BOTH OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE 45 MILES HOME AT 10 PM EITHER WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS OR WITH MY BRIGHTS ON. IT WAS TERRIFYING. THE BULBS HAD BEEN REPLACED WITHIN THE PREVIOUS 6 MONTHS. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT NHTSA AND TOYOTA MUST ADDRESS. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. ADDITIONALLY, THE HEADLIGHT CASINGS ARE MARRED, WHICH DIMINISHES VISIBILITY. TOYOTA CLEARLY HAS USED DEFECTIVE PARTS TO ENCASE THE HEADLIGHTS. AGAIN, MY FRIENDS WITH PRIUSES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
ABOUT A MILE AFTER HAVING ENTERED THE FREEWAY AS I WAS MERGING TOWARDS THE CARPOOL LANE THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE NUMBER THREE LANE.THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE, "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM", AND WOULD NOT RESPOND. MY SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I IMMEDIATELY PRESSED ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AS IT NORMALLY DOES. REPAIR HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURED INTERMITTENTLY BEFORE AND AFTER THE "FIX". BRAKES MOMENTARILY FAIL TO ACTIVATE EVERY SO OFTEN, WITH NO PARTICULAR PATTERN OR FREQUENCY. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND STATED THAT UNLESS WE CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM FOR THEM, THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ANY REPAIR OR ASSISTANCE. BECOMING UNEASY ABOUT USING THE CAR. THE VEHICLE'S FUEL GUAGE BECAME STUCK CAUSING ME TO RUN OUT OF FUEL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY ALMOST RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. AN ATTEMPT TO REFILL THE TANK WAS ONLY MINIMALLY SUCCESSFUL IN THAT ONLY 3 GALLONS WERE ACCEPTED BY THE TANK.
