A GROANING NOISE AT ALL TEMPERATURES SO FAR. IT BEGINS AND THEN GOES AWAY AFTER I DRIVE FOR A BLOCK. IT IS VERY LOUD AND IT CAN BE HEARD BY OTHERS AROUND ME. IT IS EMBARRASSING AND DOESN'T SOUND LIKE IT IS HEALTHY FOR THE LONGEVITY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
FROM A STANDSTILL, UNDER LIGHT WINTER CONDITIONS, THERE HAVE MANY TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL NOT/CAN NOT MOVE. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED POWER IS SENT FOR A FRACTION SECOND (VERY QUICK PULSE) AND THEN ALL POWER IS CUT OFF AND NOTHING FURTHER HAPPENS UNTIL YOU LIFT OFF ACCELERATOR AND TRY AGAIN. IT DOES THE SAME THING IN REVERSE. THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS CYCLE IS TO PHYSICALLY PUSH THE CAR TO GET IT MOVING(SLOW WALKING PACE) AND THEN THE TRACTION CONTROL BEHAVES VERY MUCH LIKE OUR 2012 CAMRY SE V6. A COUPLE TIMES WE HAD OUR CAMRY RIGHT NEXT TO THE PRIUS(SIDE BY SIDE) AND THE CAMRY WAS ABLE TO GET ITSELF MOVING(WITH TC ON) AND PRIUS WOULD NOT BUDGE. BOTH HAVE THE FACTORY TIRES, THE PRIUS TIRES ARE IN BETTER SHAPE THAN THE CAMRY. I KNOW THE TWO VEHICLES ARE VASTLY DIFFERENT AND THAT THIS COMPARISON MAY BE OF LITTLE HELP; I SIMPLY WANT TO EXPRESS THAT THE CONDITIONS THE PRIUS WILL NOT FUNCTION UNDER SHOULD NOT BE THOUGHT OF AS EXTREME, BUT RATHER ORDINARY WINTER CONDITIONS. IT SEEMS THAT THE PRIUS TRACTION CONTROL PARAMETERS DO NOT EVEN GIVE THE CAR THE CHANCE TO GET MOVING BEFORE SHUTTING THE SYSTEM DOWN. *TR
I BEGAN EXPERIENCING WHAT I DESCRIBED TO THE DEALER AS A "HICCUP" IN MY BRAKES. I COMPLAINED OF THIS PROBLEM THE TWO TIMES I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE (FIRST AND NEXT SIX MONTHS), AND EACH TIME THEY FOUND "NO PROBLEM" WITH THE BRAKES. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THIS SNOWY ROUGH WINTER WITH ALL THE ATTENDANT POT HOLES IN THE STREET THAT I CORRELATED THIS BRAKING PROBLEM WITH UNEVEN PAVEMENT. I KNOW THIS HAPPENS WHEN MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE HITS A POT HOLE, AND IT MAY HAPPEN WHEN ANY TIRE DOES, BUT IF I'M APPLY THE BRAKES - ESPECIALLY HITTING THE BRAKES AT THE MOMENT ONE TIRE DIPS INTO THE HOLE -THEY DO NOT ENGAGE AND IN FACT THERE'S A SLIGHT LURCH FORWARD, ALMOST AN ACCELERATION. THE CAR IS GOING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOMORROW WITH THE HOPES THAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE LOCATED. THIS TRULY FEELS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA PRIUS V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE'S MILEAGE FLUCTUATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HER INSULIN PUMP MALFUNCTIONED WHILE IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE SMOKING FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SMART KEY'S FREQUENCY INTERFERED WITH THE INSULIN PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156.
BOUGHT CAR ON 1/23/13 AND DROVE HOME. NEXT DAY GOT A CALL THEY FORGOT TO GIVE US ACCESS KEY SO DROVE 27 MILES TO DEALERSHIP AND SMOKE ON DASHBOARD. PULLED INTO SERVICE AND SALES MANAGER GOT IN CAR DROVE AROUND AND SAID ALL IS FINE. CAME HOME AN ODOMETER SHOWED 564 MILES AFTER I DROVE 27 THERE AND 27 BACK. THE CAR HAD 156 NIGHT WE BOUGHT IT THE DAY BEFORE. WE ARE OLD AND DISABLED AND DO NOT DRIVE OFTEN. ODOMETER NOW SHOWING ALMOST 900 MILES IN LESS THEN THE 3 WEEKS WE HAVE OWNED IT. REPORTED THE SMOKE ON DASHBOARD TO TOYOTA CORP OFFICE AND TOLD THEM HOW HOT THE DASHBOARD GOT AND ODOMETER JUMPING. THE MAN THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY AND SAID HE HOPED I DID NOT BURN MY HAND. NOW NAV SYSTEM NOT WORKING AND RADIO SOUNDS TINNY. CALLED LAKELAND TOYOTA AND TALKED TO OWNER [XXX] WHO SAYS HE IS AN ACCOUNTANT AND KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT CARS. TOOK CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD NAV SYSTEM SOFTWARE 2.1 SHOULD BE A 2.2 AND CLAIMED TO HAVE IT UPDATED. THE CAR THEN ADDED ANOTHER 100 MILES AGAIN. WE NEED HELP TO MAKE SURE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND NEED MILES TO STOP ADDING UP EVEN WHEN WE ARE NOT DRIVING. ALSO THE HISTORY ON MPG ONE TIME SHOWED 99.9 AND THEN 26 AND THEN 44.7 AND THEN 49. WE HAD TO PUT GAS IN IT THREE TIMES IN IT IN LESS THEN 3 WEEKS BECAUSE GAGE ON DASHBOARD KEEPS SHOWING GETTING LOW BUT THEN IT ONLY TAKES 6 GALLONS. I PUT NO FOR FIRE BUT I DID SEE SMOKE ON THE DASH ABOVE THE COMPUTER AND IT WAS VERY VERY HOT. SO NOT SURE IF THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE OR NOT OR JUST A SURGE OR SHORT. NO ONE WILL HELP ME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE MADE A U-TURN, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,400. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT I HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE THE LIGHT SOURCE FROM HEADLIGHTS HAVE A RAINBOW AFFECT. ALSO TAIL LIGHTS ARE SEEN THREE TIMES FOR EVERY ONE LIGHT. IE. CENTER BRAKE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED ON VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, THERE IS A REPLICATED LIGHT ABOVE AND BELOW THE ACTUAL LIGHT. THIS IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH TRAFFIC LIGHTS AS THERE ARE 3 DISTINCT LIGHTS FOR EVERY ONE LIGHT. THIS MAY ALSO BE REFERRED TO GHOSTING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELTS DID RESTRAIN HER. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE FOR TREATMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
BRAND NEW PRIUS 2012 WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, LIGHTS, ESPECIALLY RED IN COLOR, WHEN VIEWED FROM FRONT WINDSHIELD, APPEAR AS THREE DISTINCT IMAGES. ONE DARK IMAGE ALONG WITH TWO FAINT IMAGE ONE ABOVE AND ONE BELOW THE DARK ONE. I GOT THE CAR IN NOV END, REPORTED THE ISSUE IN DEC 17 TO TOYOTA, THEN WENT TO DEALER BEFORE CHRISTMAS. TECHNICIAN THERE ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE AND ORDERED A NEW GLASS. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED ON 11 JAN BUT SAW THE SAME ISSUE, TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE CAR AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE IS STILL THERE. TOYOTA REP WILL COME AND LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS SOMETIMES THERE ARE LOTS OF RED TAIL LIGHTS AHEAD. I SEE LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE ......BELOW ARE ODI ID NUMBER FOR PRIUS 2012. SEEMS LIKE COMMON PROBLEM. NOT SURE IF TOYOTA IS WAITING FOR ACCIDENTS TO HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE FIXING IT. MY 2012 PRIUS V HAS BEEN MAKING A GROINING, HOWLING NOISE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. NOISE COMES FROM FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. HAS TAKEN THE CAR FOR REPAIRS BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND CAN BE VERY LOUD. PEOPLE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR CAN HEAR IT, SO ITS QUITE EMBARRASING. NOISE COMES AND GOES ITS NOT CONSTANT. TOYOTA SAYS THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. I DRIVE MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR AND ITS SCARY TO KNOW THERE IS AN ABNORMALITY WITH THE BRAKES. BEWARE THE DEALER WILL TELL YOU TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH A THIRD PARTY ARBITRATION SERVICE. I DID AND MY CASE WAS DENIED. *TR
2012 PRIUS HAS SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD LAMINATION. BRIGHT LIGHT SOURCES ARE TRIPLED AT NIGHT. A GHOST IMAGE APPEARS ABOVE AND BELOW THE ORIGINAL LIGHT SOURCE. LIGHT SOURCES MAY BE, HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, SIGNAL LIGHTS, AND EVEN REFLECTED LIGHTS OFF CERTAIN ROAD SIGNS. AS YOU APPROACH THE LIGHT SOURCE, THE TWO GHOST IMAGES WILL MERGE INTO THE PRIMARY LIGHT SOURCE. THE SAFETY HAZARD ARE EXTREME EYE FATIGUE AT NIGHT, AND SEVERE VISUAL DISTORTION THAT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE LIGHT SOURCE. *TR

DESIGN OF CAR INCLUDES A FLAW CAUSING A HUGE VERTICAL BLINDSPOT ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR. BECAUSE THERE IS A BAR THAT RUNS VERTICAL ON BOTH SIDES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGERS' WINDOWS, THIS, ALONG WITH THE PILLAR COMING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD CONTRIBUTE TO AN EXTREMELY LARGE SPOT WHERE OBJECTS IN ROAD CANNOT BE SEEN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS FOR PEDESTRIAN FOOT-TRAFFIC CROSSING PERPENDICULAR TO THE CAR. PEDS IN CROSSWALKS OR IN PARKING LOTS ARE AT TIMES, COMPLETELY MASKED BY THIS BLIND SPOT BY THE COMBINATION OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD PILLARS AND FRONT WINDOW SUB-PILLARS. OTHER CARS (SUCH AS HONDA INSIGHT) WITH A DRAMATICALLY ANGLED WINDSHIELD AVOID THIS BY USING A SMALLER SUB-PILLAR ON THE FRONT WINDOW, ALLOWING FOR THINGS TO BE SEEN FAR MORE EASILY. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT CAUSES A PEDESTRIAN INJURY OR DEATH. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE REPAIRED. *TR
MY 2012 PRIUS V HAD ABOUT 3000 MILES ON THE SPEEDOMETER WHEN I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT FROM A START, WHEN I WOULD PUT THE LEVER INTO DRIVE IT WOULD GO INTO REVERSE. IT IS VERY INTERMITTENT. I CANNOT MAKE IT DELIBERATELY HAPPEN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER THIS ISSUE TWICE. THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO MAKE THE SHIFTING ERROR. BECAUSE THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE ERROR, THEY WILL NOT GIVE CREDIBILITY TO THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED PROBABLY 20 TIMES SINCE IT BEGAN HAPPENING. I AM NOW KEEPING A LOG ON EACH OCCURRENCE. IT HAS BEEN INSINUATED THAT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SHIFT THIS VEHICLE. AFTER WATCHING THE HOW TO SHIFT VIDEO, I DON'T THINK THE DEALERSHIP UNDERSTANDS THE SHIFTING MECHANISM. HOWEVER, THIS DID MAKE ME MORE CONSCIOUS OF MY ACTIONS DURING SHIFTING. I ACTUALLY DID CATCH THE SHIFTING PROBLEM AS IT OCCURRED. MY HAND WAS ON THE LEVER IN THE DRIVE POSITION WITH THE HAND PRESSURE BEING DOWN. THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE WITH THE BEEPING AND CAMERA ON WITH THE LEVER IN FULL DRIVE POSITION. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE CAR WILL GO INTO REVERSE AND I WOULD NOT BE AWARE OF IT BECAUSE I HAD PUT IT INTO DRIVE. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED GHOSTING OF IMAGES MOST OBVIOUS WHILE NIGHT DRIVING. PARTICULARLY NOTICEABLE IN LED LIGHTS. IT LOOKS LIKE A DUPLICATE IMAGE OF THE LIGHTS CREATED. IT CAN BE VERY GLARING AND HARD TO JUDGE DISTANCE OF OTHER VEHICLES. *TR
WHEN OPERATING THE PRIUS V ON A SUNNY DAY, THE REFLECTION OF THE SIDE DASH PANEL BLOCKS THE VIEW OF THE SIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THE REFLECTION OCCURS IN BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE GLASS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE TOYOTA DEALER. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS NORMAL! THIS SAFETY ISSUE HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED TO TOYOTA. THEY ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER AND RESPONDED THE PROBLEM WAS KNOWN AND THEIR WAS NO KNOWN REPAIR. THEY ALSO STATED THE ISSUE HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A DESIGN ISSUE. THIS IS MY FIRST, AND LAST, TOYOTA. THIS ISSUE COULD BE NORMAL FOR A TOYOTA, BUT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR ME AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MUST BE FIXED. I INQUIRED IF I COULD PURCHASE BLACK PANELS TO MINIMIZE THE REFLECTION AND WAS TOLD THE PANELS WERE ONLY AVAILABLE IN LIGHT GREY AND LIGHT BISQUE (BOTH VERY REFLECTIVE). UPDATED 8/12/13 *CN *TR
THE WINDSHIELD HAS A SERIOUS OPTICAL ILLUSION DURING NIGHT TIME DRIVING. THE WINDSHIELD CREATES A GHOST IMAGE OF THE ORIGINAL LIGHT SOURCE - THE GHOST IMAGE APPEARS ABOVE AND BELOW THE ORIGINAL LIGHT SOURCE. FOR EXAMPLE, AT NIGHT THE RED TRAFFIC LIGHT WILL HAVE A GHOST IMAGE OF THE RED LIGHT ABOVE AND BELOW IT, ULTIMATELY SHOWING THREE RED LIGHTS (GHOST IMAGE(1), ORIGINAL LIGHT(2), AND ANOTHER GHOST IMAGE (3)). THIS CAN ALSO BE SEEN WITH THE YELLOW AND GREEN TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ONCOMING CAR HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, STREET LIGHTS, AND PEDESTRIAN WALK SIGNS. *TR
PRIUS IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. THE WINDSHIELD DISTORTS LIGHT SOURCES AND CAUSES A GHOSTING/MULTIPLYING EFFECT. TRAFFIC SIGNALS IMAGES ARE DOUBLED, TRIPLED OR MORE - NOT SAFE AS IT IS DISTRACTING AND CONFUSING. THIS ISSUE IS VERY PROMINENT AT NIGHT. IT IS NOT JUST TRAFFIC SIGNALS BUT OTHER LIGHT SOURCES AS WELL. IN DECEMBER 2012, I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS REFERRED TO DEALER. SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMED ISSUE AND SAID THAT HE IS WAITING ON TOYOTA ON HOW TO FIX - NO RESOLUTION AFTER ONE YEAR OF WAITING. *TR
ON COLD MORNINGS THE CAR MAKES A GROANING NOISE FROM THE REAR FOR APROX A 1/2 BLOCK. MY DEALER WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM WHEN I LEFT THE CAR OVERNIGHT PARKED OUTSIDE. THEY SAID THEY ARE WAITING FOR TOYOTA TO COME UP WITH A FIX. THE CAR NOW HAS JUST OVER 10,000 MILES BUT IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MOST OF THE TIME WE HAVE OWNED IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, ALL LIGHTS, ESPECIALLY RED IN COLOR, WHICH ARE VIEWED FROM FRONT WINDSHIELD, APPEAR AS THREE DISTINCT IMAGES. THE SOURCE LIGHT, THEN A DISTINCT SHADOWED LIGHT ABOVE AND BELOW THE SOURCE. THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS EXTREMELY COMPOUNDED WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT IN HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATIONS WHERE THERE ARE HUNDRENDS OF TAILIGHTS IN FRONT OF ME. ALL THOSE LIGHTS ARE ESSENTIALLY TRIPPLED CAUSING CONFUSION AND DISTRACTION. TOYOTA REFUSES TO AKNOWLEGE THE ISSUE. THROUGH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MANY FRUSTRATED OWNERS JUST LIVING WITH IT BECAUSE TOYOTA WONT FIX IT. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE HELP MAKE TOYOTA RECTIFY THIS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BEFORE IT CAUSES PREVENTABLE ACCIDENTS!! *TR
BRAND NEW 2012 PRIUS DRIVING OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP AT NIGHT, NOTICED A RATHER BOTHERSOME TRAIT: LIGHTS VIEWED THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD HAVE A PRISM EFFECT WHERE THERE IS A "GHOST" IMAGE LOCATED ABOVE AND BELOW THE ACTUAL LIGHT SOURCE. I WANTED TO KNOW IF THIS WAS DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD, OR JUST HOW THE PRIUS IS DUE TO THE VERY LOW ANGLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS DEFINITELY A PRISM TYPE EFFECT AS IT DIFFERS BY COLOR, AND AS YOU APPROACH THE LIGHT SOURCE, THE GHOST IMAGES MERGE INTO THE SINGLE IMAGE. THIS HAPPENS WITH ALL LIGHT SOURCES, THE SUN (WORST OF ALL), HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS,STREET LIGHTS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ETC. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THIS GHOSTING OF THE LIGHT SOURCES IS REALLY DISTRACTING AND MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE LOOKING AT A BLURRED IMAGE. NOTHING IS CRISP OR CLEAR. THERE IS A GHOSTING IMAGE SEEN THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON MY NEW 2012 TOYOTA PRIUS II THAT IS AFFECTING NIGHT TIME DRIVING AND THE VISIBILITY OF LIGHTS, ESPECIALLY RED LIGHTS. WHEN YOU ARE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT AND YOU APPROACH A LIGHT THERE IS A GHOST IMAGE OF THE LIGHT ABOVE AND BELOW THE ACTUAL LIGHT SOURCE UNTIL YOU GET WITHIN A FEW FEET OF THE LIGHT SOURCE THEN IT DISAPPEARS. THIS IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF AS WELL AS MANY OTHER 2012 PRIUS OWNERS THAT I HAVE TALKED TO ABOUT THIS. VEHICLE IS MANUFACTURED WITHOUT ANY REGARD FOR PREVENTING MICE FROM ENTERING THE PASSENGER INTERIOR--- AIR INTAKE VENT UNDER WINDSHIELD AND 2 REAR DECOMPRESSION VENTS LOCATED IN THE REAR CARGO COMPARTMENT ABOVE THE WHEEL WELLS ARE OPEN TO THE EXTERIOR ALLOWING UNIMPEDED ACCESS TO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. HAD MICE IN THIS CAR 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE IN 2012 AND HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR 7 YEARS. JUST RECENTLY, HAD TOYOTA INSTALL 1/4" HARDWARE CLOTH OVER THESE 3 AREAS AND THIS SHOULD HELP SIGNIFICANTLY TO PREVENT ENTRY. ALL PREVENTATIVE MEASURES TO PREVENT MICE ENTRY HAVE BEEN DILIGENTLY TAKEN BY ME, WITHOUT SUCCESS. MICE CAN MAKE A PERSON VERY SICK. THEIR EXCREMENT CARRIES HANTAVIRUS..... AND THE MICE CARRY TICKS, WHICH CAN LEAD TO LYME DISEASE. SIMPLY MANUFACTURING THE CAR WITH THESE VENTS PROPERLY SCREENED WOULD GREATLY REDUCE THE CHANCE OF OCCUPANTS CONTRACTING A SERIOUS DISEASE.THE MICE ALSO DO A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE CAR ITSELF, IN MY CAR THE DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS CHEWED, AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CABIN AIR FILTER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF NESTING IN THIS COMPARTMENT(AFTER HAVING BEEN UNKNOWINGLY BREATHING THE MICE EXCREMENT AS THE AIR PASSES THROUGH THIS FILTER ON ITS' WAY TO THE INTERIOR. TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE PRESSURED BY YOUR AGENCY TO CORRECT THIS VERY SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD THAT THEIR CAR IS PRESENTING. THEIR IS NO LEGITIMATE REASON FOR THIS SITUATION TO EXIST. BRAKE IS HAVING GROANING/ GRINDING/OWL HOOTING SOUNDS. THE GRINDING SOUND APPEARS WHEN YOU APPLIED THE BRAKE, AND WHEN THE CAR ALMOST AT COMPLETE STOP, IS THE WORST. GROANING AND OWL HOOTING SOUND ARE ALWAYS THERE, SPECIALLY IN THE MORNING. IN THE AFTERNOON IS NOT AS LOUD AS IN THE MORNING, BUT STILL NOTICEABLE. MY PRIUS V FIVE WAS PURCHASED IN AUGUST 2012. LOCATION OF THE CAR IS NW OF WA STATE WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE CURRENTLY IN THE MID 50S (AND BELOW) WITH HIGH LEVEL OF HUMIDITY. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER 2012, I'M EXPERIENCING A NOISE THAT WOULD BEST BE DESCRIBED AS AN "OWL HOOTING." DRIVING 70 MPH CAR BEGAN TO GO INTO HIGH RPM, THEN ACCELERATED TO 74 FROM 70 MPH. I TRIED TO DECREASE SPEED THEN VEHICLE SHUT OFF GOT A LONG BEEP AND MESSAGE ON DISPLAY "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM, PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY" ALL LIGHTS ON DASH WERE INDICATING FAILURES. COASTED TO SAFETY WITH 5 PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE ACROSS TRAFFIC AT 9:30 PM TO SHOULDER. TRIED TO RESTART SEVERAL TIMES THEN VEHICLE WENT INTO HIGH RPM THEN ENGINE KNOCKED LOUDLY AND WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED. LOST BRAKES, PEDAL WAS HARD, LOST POWER STEERING, DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. I STILL HAD 2 BARS INDICATING PLENTY OF FUEL IN CAR. PRIOR FILLUP WAS 7.6 GALLONS AT PUMP, USUALLY GET OVER 500 MILES PER TANK, TRIP METER ONLY SHOWED UNDER 400 MILES SINCE FILL UP SO HAD PLENTY OF FUEL AND THERE WAS NO LOW FUEL INDICATOR. REPORTED ALL PROBLEMS TO DEALER. THEY ONLY NOTED THE CAR SHUT DOWN BUT TOLD ME THEY CONFIRMED EVERYTHING I SAID AND THAT TOYOTA ENGINEERS ARE TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS SINCE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY 2012 AND SINCE THEN WE'VE HAD 3 INCIDENTS (THAT WE KNOW OF) IN WHICH RODENTS HAVE INFESTED OUR VEHICLE. . THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED (AUGUST 2012), WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AND WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BUT WE COULD CONTACT TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE RODENT HAD CLIMBED IN TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN AIR VENT, AND CHEWED THE WIRES OF THE REAR HARNESS SYSTEM (THE WIRING SYSTEM THAT AFFECTS THE HYBRID TECHNOLOGY). THE ESTIMATED REPAIR WAS $2 - 3K. AFTER CONTACTING TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS, I WAS TOLD TOYOTA DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR OR A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AND I NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING TO CORRECT MY SURROUNDINGS. THEY ADVISED THAT I OPEN A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE PROVIDER TO COVER THE COSTS FOR THE REAR HARNESS WIRING DAMAGE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, IT APPEARS THERE ARE 6 OPENINGS/GAPS WITHIN THE VEHICLE THAT RATS CAN GET INTO TO ACCESS THE INTERIOR CABIN. NEITHER TOYOTA OR THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO BLOCK/COVER THESE VENTS TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE ATTEMPTS BY A RODENT GETTING IN. THEY DIDN'T OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ADVICE AS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO TO PREVENT THIS. THIS MORNING (APRIL 27, 2013) WE WOKE UP AND REALIZED THE RODENTS HAD ENTERED THE VEHICLE AGAIN, THIS TIME CHEWING UP MY CHILD'S CAR SEAT AND THE LEATHER OF THE REAR SEATS. OCCURRED FOR TWO HOURS YESTERDAY, AFTER OCCURRING TO A LESSER EXTENT IN PRECEDING DAYS (IN THE DAYS PRECEDING THE TOTAL BREAKDOWN, I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT AFTER A SLIGHT DELAY AND A FEW ATTEMPTS). THE DEALERSHIP TO WHICH I HAD IT TOWED SAID IT WAS FINE TODAY. EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR CAN BE IN AN UNSAFE POSITION WHEN IT BECOMES IMMOBILE. I WAS PARTLY OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, SOMEWHAT BLOCKING TRAFFIC. THE PROBLEM INVOLVES THE COMPUTER AND THE TRANSMISSION - AT LEAST
WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE FORWARD, THE CAR SLIPS INTO REVERSE!!! I'VE TAKEN IT TO TOYOTA MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY SAY THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG! I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL TO BE SURE THE CAR IS ACTUALLY IN DRIVE BEFORE MOVING IT OR I COULD BACK INTO SOMETHING OR SOMEONE BY MISTAKE. *TR
HEAD RESTRAINT (HEAD REST) ON DRIVER SEAT DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE. AFTER I ADJUST IT, IT RISES VERY SLOWLY. IF I DO NOT CONTINUALLY READJUST IT (3 OR 4 TIMES A DAY), IT RISES ABOVE MY HEAD. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY CONCERN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR (NEW) AND I HAVE ASKED TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT, AND THEY SAY THAT IT IS 'NORMAL'. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS DURING MY LIFETIME, AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN ANY OF THEM. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN TO THE PASSENGER HEAD RESTRAINT. I DO NOT THINK IT IS 'NORMAL', AND IF IT IS 'NORMAL' FOR TOYOTA, THEN ALL TOYOTA CARS HAVE A SAFETY PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY JUST REFER THE PROBLEM BACK TO MY LOCAL DEALER, WHO CONTINUES TO GIVE ME THE SAME ANSWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AUTO DIMMING REAR VIEW MIRROR FAILED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY AND WOULD NOT DIM THE LIGHTS FROM OTHER VEHICLES IN THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE SPOILER ON THE HATCH BACK WOULD CAST A SHADOW ON THE DIMMING SENSOR AND PREVENT THE MIRROR FROM DIMMING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
MY 2012 PRIUS V HAS A SERIOUS REFLECTION IN THE POINT OF VEIW OF THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS, WHEN THE FRONT WINDOWS ARE ROLLED UP, AND THE SUN IS HIGH NOON(+-5 HOURS) POSITION. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE WHITE DASH TRIM THAT THE SUN HITS. *TR ## VIN PASSED ## TOYOTA PRIUS V 2012 ##. *TR
WHEN DRIVING DASHBOARD "HYBRID SYSTEM NOT WORKING. PULL OVER..." THIS WAS 7/3/2012. IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE 2 BARS OUT OF 10 STILL PRESENT ON GAS GAUGE. ON 7/30/12 LATER THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WITH 4 BARS SHOWING. GOT THE FUEL SENSOR AND GAUGE REPLACED ON 7/30/12. 8/14/12 WITH 3 BARS SHOWING, CRUISING RANGE OF 60 MILES AND HAVING GONE 480 MILES THE SAME WARNING "HYBRID SYSTEM NOT WORKING..." I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A GAS STATION BEFORE RUNNING OUT OF GAS. THE PRIUS MANUAL STATES THE TANK HOLDS 9.5 GALLONS. FILLING UP THE TANK TOOK 9.91 GALLONS. THERE IS CLEARLY SOMETHING WRONG. THE FUEL SENSOR AND GAUGE HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED, THOUGH. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR A NEW CAR. THIS IS A NEW MODEL. *TR
NEW PRIUS DOES NOT WORK BLUETOOTH WISE WITH EXISTING PHONE. PRIUS I JUST TRADED IN DID. NO RESOLUTION FROM DEALER (TOYOTA WORLD O NEWARK DELAWARE) AND NO RESOLUTION FROM TOYOTA CORPORATE. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD DO NOTHING AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW PHONES. WE ARE DRIVING VEHICLE WITHOUT BLUETOOTH WITHOUT CELL PHONES IN OUR EARS THEREBY CREATING SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TAKATA RECALL. NHSTA SHOWS RECALL BUT ALSO SHOWS THAT TOYOTA DOESN'T HAVE A REMEDY. WHY NOT?!? NOTHING HAS HAPPENED REGARDING THE DEFECT BUT I'M CONCERNED IT MAY. BLOOMBERG SAYS TAKATA USES AMMONIUM NITRATE (FERTILIZER) AS A PROPELLANT WHICH IS APPARENTLY UNSTABLE.
