APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO THE FOLLOWING WARNING SIGNS APPEARED ON MY DASH BOARD: CHECK ENGINE VSC 4WD MAINT REQD I WENT TO SEE A MECHANIC RIGHT AWAY. HE TOLD ME THAT A PART KNOWN AS AN AIR SENSOR HAD STOPPED WORKING. HE GAVE ME THE FOLLOWING IDENTIFICATION FOR THE PART: 02 SENSOR BANK1 SENSOR1 HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO ORDER THE PART THROUGH THE DEALER ON THE INTERNET; I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL FOR THERE WAS NO ONE RESPONDING WITH HAVING THE ORINAL TOYATA PART. NEXT I CALLED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE PART IN QUESTION WAS ON BACK ORDER NATIONWIDE FOR A WAIT OF AT LEAST 3 MONTHS! MEANWHILE, I AM TOLD THATI SHOULD EXPECT HIGHER GAS CONSUMTIONS AND OTHER RELATED PROBLEMS UNTIL THE PART WAS REPLACE. I, AS I AM SURE MANY OTHER CAR OWNER, AM OUTRAGED TO BE TOLD THAT I HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 3 MONTHS FOR A PART AND THEN BE PLACED ON A LONG WAITING LIST. THIS IS THE KIND OF STAFF, I THOUGHT THT ONLY HAPPENED IN CONTROLLED ECONOMIES! THIS IS COSTING ME MONEY IN HIGHER GAS CONSUMTION WHILE THE COMPANY IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND WITH A SATISFACTORY EXPLAINATION AND APOLOGY TO CUSTOMERS!
TRANSFER CASE NOISE; QUELLING NOISE IS COMING FROM ENGINE ( I HEAR THIS NOISE AT LOW SPEED BETWEEN 20 MILES AND 40MILES). WHEN I PUSH GAS PEDAL VEHICLE DON,T PICK THE SPEED, ENGINE RUNS FAST AND IT JUMPS TO GET ITS SPEED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, A LOUD BANGING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR TIE ROD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V373000 (SUSPENSION) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V383000 (SUSPENSION). HOWEVER, BOTH REMEDIES FAILED TO PREVENT THE FAILURE FROM OCCURRING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIE ROD FRACTURED WITH THE EPOXY STILL ATTACHED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,239. UPDATED 5/4/15*CN UPDATED 05/26/15*JB
VEHICLE BURNS OVER ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES OR LESS. THIS WAS FIRST OBSERVED IN 2015 AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 120,000 MILES. THROUGHOUT IT'S LIFE THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED REGULARLY SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE. THIS PROBLEM CAN CREATE AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND POTENTIALLY SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE IF NOT REGULARLY CHECKED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE HAD BEEN EXTENSIVE SMOKE COMING FROM THE MUFFLER, STRONG FUMES AND A LOUD NOISE PROGRESSED. A POLICE OFFICER CAUTIONED THE CONTACT TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED OR THAT HE MAY BE POTENTIALLY TICKETED WITH THIS BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE MUFFLER. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED A SPECIAL SERVICE COVERAGE CAMPAIGN LETTER IN WHICH THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE DEALER WAS TO REPLACE THE MUFFLER. THE DEALER REFUSED TO SERVICE THE VOLUNTARY CAMPAIGN FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHY THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER HAD NOT COMPLIED TO REPLACE THE PART WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED OEM MUFFLER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED CONSUMING LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL, APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART PER 1,000 MILES. OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED AT REGULAR INTERVALS AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF IN TERMS OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE INTERVALS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VSC AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN MY CAR HAD JUST UNDER 100K MILES ON IT I STARTED EXPERIENCING THE FOLLOWING OIL USAGE LEVELS: TWO OIL CHANGES AGO THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON BETWEEN OIL CHANGES; OIL DID NOT REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK AND IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 4 QUARTS OF OIL BEFORE OIL EVEN REGISTERED ON THE DIPSTICK. ONE OIL CHANGE AGO I CHECKED THE OIL AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2K MILES AND OIL DID NOT REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 3 QUARTS OF OIL BEFORE OIL REGISTERED ABOVE THE LOWEST MARKING ON THE DIPSTICK. I RECEIVED TOYOTAS WARRANTY EXTENSION NOTICE AND SCHEDULED THE EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE TEST. ON MARCH 7, 2015, PART 1 OF TOYOTAS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TEST WAS PERFORMED; I DID NOT STAY WITH THE CAR WHILE THE OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED. ON APRIL 13, 2015, THE SECOND PART OF THE TEST WAS PERFORMED. I WAS SURPRISED TO BE INFORMED MY CAR DID NOT MEET TOYOTAS SPECIFICATIONS FOR EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE AS I HAD NOT USED A FULL QUART OF OIL IN THE 1,100 MILES SINCE THE OIL CHANGE. I WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP WOULD PERFORM NO FURTHER ACTION AND MY NEXT ALTERNATIVE WOULD BE TO CONTACT TOYOTAS REGIONAL OR CORPORATE OFFICE. I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE OIL USAGE AT EXCESSIVE RATES; HOWEVER, BASED ON TOYOTAS STANCE THUS FAR, MY OIL USAGE IS NOT CONSIDERED EXCESSIVE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THE SUN VISOR DRIVER SIDE DOES NOT HOLD ITSELF UP IN POSITION. THE VISOR DROPS DOWN WHEN PUT UP OR CAN BE SET ON A SIDE OR CAN BE SET FULL FORWARD CLOSER TO THE FRONT GLASS, BUT IT CAN EASILY MOVE. THE SUN VISOR WEIGHT IS TO HEAVY FOR THE DESIGN AND MAKING IT FAULTY. A TOYOTA DEALER EMPLOYEE MENTION IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON "ALL RAV 4" OF THE SAME MODEL. THE INCIDENT HAPPEN DRIVING UP A HILL WITH THE VISOR FULL FORWARD AS TO COVER ONESELF FROM THE DIRECT SUN. UPON FALLING IN AN UNSEEN STREET HOLD THE VISOR DROPPED DOWN, AT THE SAME TIME ANOTHER CAR WAS COMING AND DUE TO THE POSITION UPHILL OF THE CAR AND THE VISOR DROPPING SUDDENLY IT ALMOST CAUSED A DIRECT FRONTAL COLLISION. THE VISOR MUST BE CHANGE AS IT INHIBITS PROPER FRONTAL VISION AND FUNCTION. *TR UPDATED 2/19/2016*JS
I HAVE HAD AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH MY 2006 RAV 4 AND A "CLUNKING" NOISE WHILE STEERING. WE HAD THIS REPAIRED ONCE WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2006. BUT THE EXACT SAME FEEL AND NOISE HAS RETURNED. THE STEERING WHEEL CLICKS WHEN YOU TURN LEFT OR RIGHT, AND YOU CAN FEEL THE "CLICKING" IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WITH YOUR FEET IN THE CAR. AFTER DOING BASIC RESEARCH ONLINE, IT SEEMS THAT THIS SPECIFIC MODEL OF RAV 4 HAS NOT ONLY HAD MANY RECALLS, BUT THIS STEERING ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD. THANKS! *JS
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ON THE RAV4 IS ONE QUART AT 1,100 MILES THAT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPAIR ALTHOUGH THE HEAD TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION AS RELEASE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLENTIN SPECIFIC FOR THIS PROBLEM. LOCAL DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS IS "NORMAL" FOR A CAR??
OSTEOPOROSIS AND I READ THAT THIS DRUG BRINGS ON OR MAKES WORSE ANY OSTEOPOROSIS CONDITION MINE IS EXTREMELY SEVER AND MINE IS SEVER. I HAVE SINCE GONE TO A NEUROLOGIST AND HE PUT ME ON VERAPAMIL 80 MGS 2 X A DAY. HOPEFULLY I CAN FIND A LAWYER WHICH WILL DO PRO-BONO. THANKS FOR THE 15 FRACTURES. THE 2006 RAV4 IS KNOW TO BURN OIL AT EXCESSIVE RATE WHICH WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO LOCK UP AT A HIGH RATE AND LEAD TO NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF LOSS OF STEERING OR BRAKING. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. IT IS VERY DISTRACTING. I HAVE TRIED GETTING IT TO STAY THERE WITH VELCRO, HOWEVER THE VISOR IS TOO HEAVY AND IT WILL NOT HOLD IT UP. I CALLED TOYOTA WHO STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME WITH THIS. IT WOULD COST ME OVER $100 TO GET THIS FIXED. THEY DO NOT SEE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE, HOWEVER IT IS VERY DISTRACTING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL POSTS ON THE INTERNET OF OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE VISOR. *TR
U-JOINT IN STEERING COLUMN WEARING OUT AND MAKING NOISE. MECHANIC AT DEALERSHIP SAID COMMON PROBLEM, BUT NOT AT 21,000 MILES. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR APPROXIMATELY $400. *JS
MY ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I FOUND IT WAS 3 QUARTS LOW AFTER CHECKING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND TOYOTA HAS A TSB ON EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING INTERNALLY WITH THE PISTONS AND RINGS BUT THEY FAIL TO MAKE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY STATED IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW ON THERE ENGINE DESIGN. *TR
DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT 20-25 MPH. SUDDENLY THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP (BRAKE PEDAL WAS *NOT* BEING PRESSED) AND BEGAN THE ABS SHUDDER AS IF VEHICLE WAS BRAKING ON ICE. VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT; THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. AFTER CAR WARMED UP IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT RECURRED THE NEXT MORNING AFTER STARTING OUT. SEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND OTHER TOYOTA DRIVERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AND 'RESOLVED' IT BY REMOVING FUSES FOR ABS BRAKING SYSTEM, RENDERING IT INOPERATIVE. CAR BRAKES NORMALLY NOW WITH NO ISSUES, BUT ABS, BRAKES, VSC AND OTHER DASH LIGHTS ARE ON BECAUSE ABS SYSTEM IS DISABLED. *TR

THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V168000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD NOT APPROVE AN INTERIM REPAIR. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS ABLE TO INDICATE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,206.
HISSING NOISE WHEN BRAKE IS PRESSED AND TOOK THE CAR A MUCH LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP AND HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES VERY HARD. HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET BACK TO HOME. ONLINE IT SEEMS TO SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. *TR

AS OF 9/16/14 OUR 2006 RAV4 V6 CURRENTLY HAS 45,790 MILES AND WE JUST GOT A DIAGNOSTIC FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE THAT THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE A CHARCOAL CANISTER AND AN B1S2 O2 SENSOR NEEDS REPLACEMENT. ME AND MY WIFE LOVE THE SUV BUT WITH SUCH LOW MILES I WOULD NOT HAVE EXPECTED FOR THIS TO HAVE HAPPENED. FROM MY QUICK RESEARCH, I UNDERSTAND THIS COULD CAUSE MORE ENGINE DAMAGE IF NOT REPAIRED, I SEE A DECREASE IN MILES PER GALLON AND A ROUGH IDLING. I WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PART WHICH IS A CHARCOAL CANISTER AND THE O2 SENSOR. TOYOTA WANTED $1,303.00 TOTAL REPAIR AND FOR THIS LOW MILAGE VEHICLE IS NOT WHAT I EXPECT FROM A QUALITY VEHICLE. *TR

MAY, 2014 I HAD MY VEHICLE OIL CHANGE DONE. I FOLLOW THE POLICY OF THREE MONTHS OR 3500 MILES WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. I HAVE BEEN USING THIS QUICK LUBE PLACE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. WHEN THE OIL WAS DRAINED I WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. I ASSUMED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS SHOP FOR A RECALL AND THE OIL CHANGE WAS DONE THEIR THAT THEY FAILED TO PUT THE PROPER AMOUNT OF OIL INTO THE VEHICLE. WITH LESS THAN 3500 MILES AND THREE MONTHS THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WENT IN TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS. IT WAS SHORT APPROXIMATELY TWO QUARTS WITH NO SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE SEVERAL CUSTOMERS WITH THIS SAME MODEL WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM DUE TO THE VEHICLE BURNING OIL, AND TOLD TO CONTACT TOYOTA. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED TO REGULARLY CHECK THE OIL EVERY TWO WEEKS. UPON RETURNING HOME I CHECKED ON LINE AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH VEHICLES WITH LOW MILEAGE. I HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL OWNER FROM DAY ONE AND HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ON MY TOYOTA RAV4 FAILED, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO DROP OFF THE CAR AS I ENTERED I-95. WHEN I REPORTED IT TO TOYOTA, THEY SAID THE RECALL HAD BEEN FIXED IN ABQ, NM. I LIVE IN VA; THE RECALL HAD NEVER BEEN FIXED, AND THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ABQ. TURNS OUT ABQ DEALER HAD REPORTED THE WRONG VIN # ON FIXING MULTIPLE RECALLS ON ANOTHER RAV. I HAVE DOUBLE CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND MY VA DMV REGISTRATION TO ENSURE MY VIN IS CORRECT. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING CORPORATE TOYOTA FOR OVER A WEEK, GETTING THE RUN AROUND. I TOOK IT IN WHERE I HAD THE OIL CHANGED LAST AND THEY SAID IT WAS 2.5 QTS LOW. THEY TOPPED IT OFF AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK AFTER 200 MILES AND WHEN I DID, THEY SAID IT HAD USED MORE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. TOOK IT INTO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY STARTED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. YESTERDAY WAS THE FINAL FOR THAT AND LOW AND BEHOLD, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS USING OIL. THEY SAID THE RINGS, PISTONS , VALVES AND ETC. SHOULD BE REPLACED FOR A TOTAL OF $4,300+. THEY OFFERED ME NO ASSISTANCE BUT DID TELL ME THAT THEY WERE OFFERING 0 PERCENT ON NEW VEHICLES. I WOULD NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER TOYOTA. I KNOW SOMEONE WITH THE SAME CAR AS MINE WHO SPENT SEVERAL HUNDREDS TRYING TO GET HER CAR FIXED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND JUST FINALLY TRADED IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE RECALL ON THE REAR SUSPENSION AND WAS LED TO BELIEVE THE REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE BY THE DEALERSHIP - DICK DYER TOYOTA IN COLUMBIA, SC ON JANUARY 13, 2014. TWO MONTHS LATER THE LEFT REAR TIRE ALMOST CAME OFF OF THE CAR AS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I SPOKE WITH [XXX] (SERVICE MANAGER) AND HE SAID THAT HE KNEW ABOUT MY CAR. AT THE TIME OF MY INITIAL VISIT IN JANUARY, THEY HAD NOTICED RUSTY BOLTS ON MY SUSPENSION STARTING TO SHEER. AT THE TIME, HE HAD CALLED TOYOTA MOTOR SERVICE TO SEE, IF THE SITUATION WARRANTED GETTING US A RENTAL CAR AND TO SEE, IF THEY FELT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT VISUALLY INSPECTING (TMS). HE ALSO ADMITTED THAT NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE TO MY CAR. SO THEY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND DID NOTHING. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE CONDITION OF THE SUSPENSION, OR THE FACT THAT THEY CALLED TMS TO DISCUSS. I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THE RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED. I WOULD NEVER OF DRIVEN THE CAR, IF I KNEW OF IT'S CONDITION. WE LEFT FOR DISNEY THE NEXT DAY AND DROVE 2,400 MILES, BEFORE THE SUSPENSION ARM GAVE WAY. LUCKILY, WE WERE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE OR WE COULD OF BEEN KILLED. YES, THEY MADE THE REPAIRS TO MY CAR, BUT THEY LET ME DRIVE OFF OF THE LOT KNOWING THAT I WAS DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB. THERE WASN'T A QUESTION OF IF THE SUSPENSION WOULD GIVE WAY....IT WAS WHEN.
