DRY START. TOLD BY MECHANIC ENGINE WILL FAIL WITHOUT $3000 REPAIR
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that a quart of oil each was added each week. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the charcoal canister needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
HOOD MOVES WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HOOD IS PROPERLY LATCHED.
THE VEHICLE BURN EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. ANY DRIVING FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS WILL LEAD THE VEHICLE TO BE EMPTY OF OIL. THIS EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING HAPPENS QUICKLY OVER HIGHWAY AND SLOWLY DRIVING CITY.
THIS CAR BURNS ENGINE OIL DRAMATICALLY. I DID MY OIL CHANGE AT JIFFY LUBE AND I HALF WAY THRU TO THE NEXT OIL CHANGE THE MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME AND WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM THEY HAD TO ADD ALMOST 2 QUARTS OF OIL. I THINK THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE. THERE ARE NO OIL LEAKS AND THIS IS HAPPENING EVERY TIME WE CHANGE OIL. WE GOT THE VEHICLE IN FEB 2019
FOR ENGINE, IT HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I NEED TO ADD 1 QTR OF OIL AFTER 1.5K MILES DRIVE. FOR STEERING, IT MAKES CRACKING SOUNDS WHEN HAVING TURN THE STEERING IN A SLOW MOTION DRIVE BACKING UP FROM GARAGE.
I OWN A 2007 RAV 4, 110,000 MILES AND I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY BEGAN TO DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. I WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA.. I JUST READ IN THE PAST TOYOTA KNEW ABOUT EARLIER MODELS THAT THE ECM RUINED THE TRAN MISSION IN RAV 4S..
MY 2007 RAV4 BURNS EXCESS ENGINE OIL AND BY THE TIME. AFTER ABOUT 2000 MILES I WOULD GET THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT AND NO OIL IS LEFT IN THE ENGINE.
WHETHER I'M DRIVING OR PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE CAR SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY. I CANT TURN ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS OR ROLL DOWN THE POWER WINDOWS. I HAVE NO LIGHTS WHATSOEVER, SO NO ONE CAN SEE ME AT NIGHT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER A BUS ALMOST REAR-ENDED ME. PREVIOUSLY THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY CANNOT FIX MY CAR.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN ARROW HWY IN THE RAIN WHEN MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. I LOST POWER FROM BOTH MY ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS COASTING DOWN TO AN APPROACHING INTERSECTION WHEN I MADE THE DESCISION TO TURN RIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION. THE STEERING WAS SO HARD THAT I NEARING HIT THE CENTER DIVIDE. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE BARELY WORKING AND MANY OF MY DASH ICONS WERE COMING ON RANDOMLY. THROUGH IT ALL, MY ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AND I MADE TO THE NEXT STREET THAT TURNED INTO CONDOS THAT HAD PARKING SPACES. I SHUT MY ENGINE OFF AND TRIED A RESTART. THE ENGINE,OF COURSE,DID NOT START. AFTER BEING HAULED TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN ALTERNATOR THAT SHORTED THE BATTERY. HAVING A LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN THIS ELECTRICAL AREA, I UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN BUT WITH PROPER DESIGN IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. THE BATTERY WAS SAVED AFTER RECHARGING. HERE IS MY POINT; I DON'T WANT ANY ONE THAT I KNOW AND LOVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I HAD TO. THOSE THAT DRIVE THIS CAR SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN WITH A CAR EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRICAL STEERING. THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SEVERE IF THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE STALLED; WHICH, BY THE WAY WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN A SHORT TIME.
AFTER PROCESSING THE SAFETY RECALL ON THE REAR TIE RODS WHICH CONTROL THE TOE OF THE WHEELS, I DROVE 20K MILES AND THEN NEEDED TO DO ANOTHER ALIGNMENT ON THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE TOE OF BOTH WHEELS ARE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT TO THE LEFT BRINGING THE CAR'S STEERING OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND CAUSING PREMATURE TIRE WEAR. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, AS THE SAFETY RECALL PROCESS WAS TO CAP THE TOE ADJUSTER BAR ON THE REAR TIE RODS AND FILL THEM WITH EPOXY, THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS WAS TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS AND REPEAT THE SAFTY RECALL BUT THIS TIME THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $720 DOLLARS. SO EVEN THOUGH THIS PART HAS HAD SEVERAL SAFETY RECALLS ON IT AND THAT THE FINAL SOLUTION BY TOYOTA WAS TO HOLD IT TOGETHER WITH GLUE. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIGURE OUT A LONG TERM SOLUTION THAT ALLOWS FOR THE CAR TO RETAIN ITS ORIGINAL ABILITY TO DO A PROPER ALIGNMENT.
MY VEHICLE WAS ONE OF APPROXIMATELY 750,000 VEHICLES INVOLVED IN TOYOTA'S 2013 CSJ SAFETY RECALL. HOWEVER, IT WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE AUGUST 2016 GOV SAFETY RECALL, AS WERE ABOUT 420,000 OTHER VEHICLES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTATALK.COM, SINCE SO MANY OF THESE RAV4S WERE EXCLUDED FROM THE G0V SAFETY RECALL WHICH CALLS FOR MANDATORY REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM MOUNTING HARDWARE, THIS MEANS THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF AFFECTED RAV4 VEHICLES ON AMERICAN HIGHWAYS WITH EITHER: 1. POTENTIALLY RUSTING AND/OR CORRODING MOUNTING HARDWARE FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM THAT HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED 2. THE INABILITY TO HAVE A REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHICH COULD LEAD TO DANGEROUS TIRE WEAR THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE ON TOYOTATALK.COM IS "THE DEFECTIVE TOYOTA RAV4 TUBE-STYLE REAR SUSPENSION ARM." IT WAS POSTED ON APRIL 28, 2018. HE CITED A MECHANICAL DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE AS THE REASON WHY. HE STATED THAT IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO SUBMIT A WARRANTY CLAIM ON MY VEHICLE'S TIRES PURCHASED THERE, THAT THE TIRE WITH UNEVEN WEAR WOULD BE EXCLUDED. A PHOTO OF THAT TIRE ACCOMPANIES THIS COMPLAINT. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, ON NOVEMBER 9, 2018, AFTERMARKET REAR SUSPENSION ARMS WERE INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE. THE INSTALLATION WAS PAID BY ME OUT OF POCKET. A REDACTED COPY OF THE RECEIPT ACCOMPANIES THIS COMPLAINT. SINCE RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC, TOYOTA HAS NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE TO SAY ABOUT THESE CONCERNS. BE THAT AS IT MAY, A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH TOYOTA ON NOVEMBER 5, 2018. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA AND ITS LACK OF ACTION. IT IS MY DEEPEST HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
I HAVE OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 FOR 10 YEARS. I WAS LEAVING A DELAWARE, OHIO, HOSPITAL PARKING LOT, BACKING OUT SLOWLY, MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE ROARED AND I SHOT BACKWARD, SMASHING INTO THE CAR PARKED BEHIND WHERE MY CAR HAD BEEN. THE CAR I HIT WAS SOMEWHAT DAMAGED IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE FENDER. THE IMPACT SHOVED IT OUT OF ITS SPACE AND ALMOST INTO A SMALL TRUCK TO THE RIGHT. MY CAR'S REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND THE RIGHT BACK BUMPER AND SIDE WERE CRUMPLED. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME. THE FIRST TIME, I AGAIN WAS BACKING FROM A TIGHT SPOT, THIS TIME TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, WHEN THE ENGINE ROARED AND THE CAR LURCHED BACKWARD. THAT TIME, I HIT NOTHING. IT HAPPENED ANOTHER TIME WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING, AGAIN FROM A TIGHT SPOT WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL. BACK AT THE HOSPITAL LOT. I INFORMED THE FRONT DESK EMPLOYEE, WHO INFORMED THE OHIOHEALTH HOSPITAL POLICE. TWO OFFICERS REPORTED, TOOK MY INFORMATION AND BEGAN SEARCHING FOR THE OTHER CAR'S OWNER. I ALSO CALLED THE CITY POLICE; AN OFFICER CAME BUT LEFT AFTER CONFERRING WITH OHIOHEALTH'S POLICE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY TO MY LOCAL INSURANCE AGENT, WHO CONNECTED ME WITH A CLAIMS ADJUSTER. AT FIRST I THEORIZED THAT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE MUST HAVE PIVOTED SLIGHTLY AS I TURNED IN MY SEAT TO ENSURE I COULD BACK SAFELY. MY FOOT MUST HAVE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. PRESSED WITH CONSIDERABLE POWER, GIVEN THE CAR'S BACKWARD LEAP. NOV. 8 I TESTED THIS THEORY ON MY DRIVEWAY, AND SAW IMMEDIATELY IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. I WOULD HAVE HAD TO LIFT MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE DELIBERATELY TO PRESS THE GAS FIRMLY. THIS CAR'S REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. MY CAR WAS NOT AMONG THOSE RECALLED FOR SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THE CAR IS REGISTERED IN MY HUSBAND'S NAME, (XXXXX). PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
MY 2007 RAV4 IS EXPERIENCING A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE STEERING FEELS SUSPECT AT TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. A ONLINE SEARCH, REVEALED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR. TOYOTA DIAGNOSES THIS AS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING COLUMN.IS THE NHTSA AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND IS IT A SAFETY CONCERN?
WE HAD RECALL GOV ON MY TOYOTA RAV4 ON 1/18/18 81000 MILES. AT THIS TIME I ALSO HAD NEW FRONT STRUTS AND REAR SHOCKS INSTALLED WITH A FRONT AND REAR ALIGNMENT. THEN 8000 MILES LATER AFTER THE FIX IN OCTOBER I NOTICED EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR NEW REAR BRAKES AND AN ALIGNMENT. AT THAT TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NO LONGER PERFORM A REAR ALIGNMENT DUE TO THIS RECALL "FIX" THAT PERMANENTLY SEALED IT INTO ONE PLACE. WE WERE TOLD THAT IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR BACK INTO ALIGNMENT, WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR TOE BAR. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE REAR TIE ROD, AND TOYOTA'S SOLUTION TO AN ENGINEERING FLAW IS TO MAKE THE REAR TIE ROD NO LONGER ADJUSTABLE, THUS COSTING THE CONSUMER HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX A SIMPLE ALIGNMENT ISSUE. IT IS NOT FEASIBLE OR FAIR TO EXPECT THE CONSUMER TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE, WHEN TOYOTA CREATED THE ISSUE WITH THEIR "FIX" INSTEAD OF CREATING A REPLACEMENT REAR TOE THAT IS ADJUSTABLE LIKE THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITH WHEN I PURCHASED IT. THIS FIX HAS CREATED A NEW SAFETY ISSUE WITH TIRE WARE AND HANDLING ISSUES. BEFORE THE FIX I WAS EXPERIENCED NEITHER OF THESE ISSUES.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION MAY LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE
THE LH SUNVISOR DOES NOT STAY UP. IT CONTINUES TO FLIP DOWN MIDWAY BLOCKING THE DRIVING VIEW AND AT A POSITION TO HIT THE FOREHEAD IF A JERK IS THERE. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN BEEN REPORTED BY MULTIPLE RAV4 OWNERS WITH NO KNOWN ACTION FROM TOYOTA
MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4, 113,000 MILES, IS EXPERIENCING SERIOUS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOYOTA FIRST ACKNOWLEDGED THIS VEHICLE HAD AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM IN 2011 WHEN IT ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (T-SB-0094-11) . I TOOK THE CAR IN TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED. IN 2014, TOYOTA WAS THEN THE SUBJECT OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BY TOYOTA OWNERS WHO ALLEGED CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOYOTA ENTERED INTO A SETTLEMENT. IN 2015, TOYOTA OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY REPAIRS. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY "REPAIRED." IN RECENT MONTHS, THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. AT ONE POINT, I HEARD ODD ENGINE NOISES. I WAS ALARMED TO SEE THE OIL LEVEL WAS SO LOW THAT IT DIDN'T REGISTER, DESPITE THE FACT I HAD GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE A FEW WEEKS EARLIER. I CALLED TOYOTA ON 9/10/2018 AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING TO FIX THE CAR THAT TOYOTA TWICE FAILED TO FIX. TO NO AVAIL, I TOLD ANGIE, AT TOYOTA'S NATIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS DIVISION, THAT. TOYOTA'S SUPPOSED "FIXES" WERE INSUFFICIENT AND DID NOT WORK. SHE SAID THAT'S MY PROBLEM. AS A RESULT, I HAVE A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE. DESPITE FREQUENT OIL CHANGES, THE ENGINE CAN RUN OUT OF OIL AND SEIZE UP AT ANY TIME, LEAVING ME (A 67-YEAR-OLD WOMAN) STRANDED IN THE DESERT IN 120 DEGREE TEMPERATURES OR ON THE ROADWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION HAS BEEN A COMMON COMPLAINT AMONG OWNERS OF THE OWNERS OF 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 VEHICLE FOR YEARS. TOYOTA CLEARLY HAS FAILED TO DO WHAT IT ADMITS IT WAS OBLIGATED TO DO AND PROMISED TO DO - FIX IT. WHY HASN'T THE GOVERNMENT ALREADY STEPPED IN TO REQUIRE TOYOTA TO IMMEDIATELY REPAIR THE AFFECTED VEHICLES? INDIVIDUAL CONSUMERS HAVE NO POWER TO MAKE MULTI-NATIONAL CORPORATIONS RESPECT THEIR RIGHTS AND THE LAW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN DID NOT WORK. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY TOYOTA RAV4 (2007) STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE OIL COMBUSTION. I STARTED HAVING OIL CHANGES EVERY 2-3K MILES. 1200 MILES AFTER MY LAST OIL CHANGE THE ENGINE SEIZED DUE TO A LACK OF OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT A CONVENIENCE STORE WHEN IT DIED. I'VE SINCE LEARNED THAT THE ISSUE IS KNOWN AND THEIR IS A TSB THAT WAS ISSUED TO DEALERSHIPS.
AFTER TAKING MY 2007 RAV4 TO THE CHECKERED FLAG DEALERSHIP, FROM WHOM I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE HAD AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE WAS THEN SCHEDULED FOR FREE REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD TAKE 3 DAYS AND BE PROVIDED WITH A FREE RENTAL VEHICLE. NOW I AM TOLD TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX FOR FREE, BUT I AM RESPONSIBLE. TOYOTA ADDRESSED THIS CUSTOMER COMPLAINT OF EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION IN 2014. BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, TOYOTA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR TEN YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE OR 150,000 MILES. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, MY VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW SIGNS OF THIS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION UNTIL NOW. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE FALLS WITHIN THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT, IT DOES NOT FALL WITHIN THE DATE REQUIREMENT. I DON'T THINK IT IS FAIR FOR ME TO PAY $4,000 TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE WHEN TOYOTA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS SINCE 2014. EVERY SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE I HAVE HAD ALL MY OIL CHANGES DONE AT CHECKERED FLAG. IT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TO AVOID THIS EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION IN THE FUTURE. I FEEL TOYOTA IS BEING UNREASONABLE AND IRRESPONSIBLE IN TAKING CARE OF THEIR PROBLEM WHICH HAS NOW FALLEN ON ME. SO NOW I MUST COME UP WITH $4,000 I DON'T HAVE OR FIND ANOTHER FORM OF TRANSPORTATION.
THE MOTOR MOUNT ARE BROKE FROM CORROSION. AND MY MUFFLER WAS REPLACED FOR THE SAME THIS...
VEHICLE CONSUMES OR BURNS EXCESSIVE OIL. ENGINE IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. ENGINE STOPPED WORKING WHILE ON THE ROAD.
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN GERMANY (MIL FAMILY) WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. OUR OIL LEVEL WAS FINE THE DAY BEFORE WE STALLED. WE CHECK OUR OIL EVERY WEEKEND SINCE OUR RAV4 HAS A VERY HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION RATE. OUR EGGINE SEIZED WHILE WE WERE GOING ABOUT 90 MPH WITH OTHER CARS AROUND US GOING EVEN FASTER. WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE NOT CAUSED AN FATAL ACCIDENT. WE WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS.
ON JULY 24, 2018; I CONTACTED TEMECULA VALLEY TOYOTA REGARDING MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 WITH 122,00 MILES ON IT. I CONTACTED THEM TO SPEAK REGARDING THE EXCESSIVE USE OF OIL THAT MY VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY USING. I HAVE BEEN DILIGENT ABOUT BRINGING MY CAR IN FOR ALL RECALLS AND HAVE INQUIRED EACH TIME IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT SHOULD BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED ON MY VEHICLE. BEFORE CONTACTING TOYOTA, I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANY OTHER VEHICLES WERE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A LAWSUIT FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. IT WAS TITLED THE ECONOMIC LOSS CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. IT READS THAT TOYOTA RAV 4 WITH THE YEARS 2006-2008 RAV 4 SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO BE REPAIRED IF THEY ARE BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR WITHIN 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. IT DOES NOT STATE WHICHEVER IS LESS. HOWEVER TOYOTA IS IMPLYING BECAUSE MY CAR IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD THAT THIS IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. AS STATES PREVIOUSLY, MY VEHICLE HAS 122,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS UNDER THE AMOUNT REQUIRED FOR THE LAWSUIT. IN ADDITION I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN BEFORE THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED AND IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED TO ME THAT THIS COULD BE COVERED AT THE TIME OF REPAIR FOR OTHER RECALLS. I WAS BRINGING THIS VEHICLE IN TO BE REPAIRED PRIOR TO A FAMILY EMERGENCY THAT I WOULD HAVE TO USE MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE THROUGH SEVERAL STATES. THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL CHANGE BEFORE I LEFT. MY VEHICLE USED UP ALL OF THE OIL BEFORE I MADE IT HALF WAY. THE PRESSURE IN THE ENGINE WAS SO HOT THAT IT BLEW THE OIL CAP OFF AND NEARLY BLEW UP MY ENGINE AND THE OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 1,000 MILES BEING DRIVEN. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE I70 WEST TOWARDS KANSAS. THERE ARE FEW PLACES TO TURN OFF, NEAR VAIL, COLORADO. IT ENDANGERED MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF OTHERS DURING THE TIME THAT I WAS STOPPED ON A FREEWAY ON A MOUNTAIN.
MY RAV4 TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AS OIL LIGHT CAME ON, HOWEVER, TRUCK WAS NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AS SERVICE WAS DONE MAY 2018. TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE TRUCK WAS BURNING OIL AND REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF PISTONS INSIDE ENGINE. AT THAT TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT UNDER THE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION WARRANTY, IT WOULD BE COVERED AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMERS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED FOR MY TRUCK AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE TRUCK NEVER INDICATED A PROBLEM AND NO MENTION OF THIS ISSUE WAS EVER ADDRESSED BY THE TECHNICIANS. A YEAR AGO THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED AND NOW MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IS BEING COMPROMISED. OF COURSE, ENGINE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD EVEN THOUGH REGULAR OIL CHANGES WERE BEING DONE. JUST BECAUSE THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED DOESN'T MEAN THE ISSUE DOESN'T EXIST! WHY IS A COMPANY ALLOWED TO PUT LIVES IN DANGER? TOYOTA IS QUICK TO ADDRESS A RECALL ISSUE YET DOESN'T SEEM TO THINK THIS IS SUCH AN ISSUE. IN NO TIME, YOU COULD BE OUT OF A CAR/TRUCK WITHOUT YOU EVEN KNOWING WHY ESPECIALLY WHEN SERVICES ARE BEING DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. HOW IS IT THAT DEALER SERVICE CENTERS KNOW WHEN YOU HAVEN'T DONE A RECALL ON YOUR CAR YET DON'T ADDRESS/ADVISE AN ISSUE THAT POTENTIALLY BE A PROBLEM IF NOT TAKEN CARE OF IN THE LONG RUN. I GUESS THE CUSTOMERS SAFETY IS NOT A PRIORITY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY LITHIA TOYOTA OF KLAMATH FALLS (2675 WASHBURN WAY, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON 97603) PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V596000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT PART UTILIZED BY THE DEALER HAD NO ADJUSTMENT ABILITY, WHICH WORE OUT THE REAR TIRES IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME DUE TO NO ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER LOCATED AT 4413 MCHENRY AVENUE IN MODESTO, CA THE DEALER RECEPTIONIST SAID THAT THEY CAN'T TAKE OF IT, BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL IN RECORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT IT IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT AFFECTS THE SAFETY OF VEHICLE OWNER
I TOOK MY RAV4 TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR ITS REGULAR CHECK-UP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CARS TRANSMISSION BLOCKS WERE BROKEN AND THAT THEY HAD TO BE REPAIRED OR CAR WOULD SHAKE AND SHUDDER. ALSO THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS CAR, A SPORT TRIM, ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 60,000 MILES. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN UNLESS IT WAS FAULTY QUALITY/WORK WHEN ASSEMBLING. I AM BEING CHARGED $1200.00 TO REPAIR THESE BLOCKS. I HAVE DRIVEN HONDAS FOR 30 YEARS AND THIS IS MY 1ST TOYOTA. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. NEVER HAPPENED W/ A HONDA (NO DOCUMENTATION AS YET AS I DO NOT PICK UP THE CAR UNTIL TOMORROW.)

TAKATA RECALL-I JUST PURCHASED THIS USED VEHICLE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. IT STARTED USING OIL RIGHT AWAY. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAYS IT'S A PROBLEM THEY'RE WELL AWARE OF, AND, IF I HAD BROUGHT IT IN BEFORE AUGUST, BEFORE I HAD PURCHASED IT OR EVER EVEN SEEN IT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED, BUT NOW THEY WANT $5000.00 TO REBUILD THE ENGINE!
MY CAR BURNS MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I GET REGULAR CHANGES AT GOODYEAR. I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA WOLFCHASE MEMPHIS FOR NOT 1 BUT 2 RECALLS AND ASKED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF OIL IT WAS BURNING. THEY INFORMED ME THIS VEHICLE PER VIN# HAD A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT ON IT B/C PISTON DOES NOT SIT PROPERLY AND THAT IS WHY THE LARGE CONSUMPTION OF OIL. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME I WAS "TOO LATE" THAT IT EXPIRED 5/6 MONTHS PRIOR. I MADE THEM AWARE I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT AND THEY SAID THEIR HANDS WERE TIED. NOTHING THEY, TOYOTA SERVICE DEPT. COULD DO. I CALLED TOYOTA AND A REP SAID IT WAS NOT THE LAW TO LEGALLY NOTIFY ME OF THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT SINCE I WAS NOT ORIGINAL OWNER. AFTER MUCH DISAGREEMENT I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR WHO CALLED ME BACK AND INFORMED ME LEGALLY THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ME WITH THE BILL IF I GOT THIS PISTON FIXED. I ASKED HER IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS NOTIFIED BC I COULD NOT IMAGINE NOT GETTING IT FIXED. I SAID THIS ONE MODEL HAS SO MANY RECALLS! IT IS A LEMON. THEN AGAIN SHE EXPLAINED THEY COULD DO NOTHING. I BEGAN BUYING IN 5 GALLONS AND WRITING MILEAGE ON THE BOTTLE BEFORE I ADD ANY. (IT WAS 3 PER 5K AND HAS INCREASED TO THE LATEST HIGH OF 7 IN THE 2 YRS. SINCE I PURCHASED. I AM AN OLDER DRIVER AND BABY THIS VEHICLE. AT THE DATE I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PISTON UNDER WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT I WAS IN FOR 2 RECALLS!!! SEAT BELT AND REAR SUSPENSION! THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 888-270-9371 AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. A CASE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,203.
DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON DOZENS OF TIMES WHILE BRAKING.. TOYOTA RAV4 2007 WITH ONLY 69K MILES STARTED TO CONSUME 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES... DEALER DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST - WHICH PROVED THAT ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. SINCE CAR IS MORE THEN 10 YEARS, EVEN THOUGH THE MILEAGE IS VERY LOW - TOYOTA REFUSES TO COVER REPAIR COSTS. DEALER'S QUOTE FOR REPAIR WAS $4,300.
THIS VEHICLE HAD THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM RECALL (NHTSA 16V596000) . WHEN THE DEALERSHIP DID THE RECALL THEY SEALED THE PARTS IN EPOXY, THE CAR IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AGAIN IN LESS THAN I YEAR. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS BEING TOLD THAT IT WILL COST $700 TO GET THE ALIGNMENT DONE. THE SUSPENSION HAS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE EPOXY. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE ONE YEAR WARRANTY OF THE RECALL. TOYOTA SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THIS SINCE THEY DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE PROPERLY DURING THE RECALL AND NOW THE CAR CAN NOT HAVE REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. I CANNOT GET A ROUTINE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF THE EPOXY USED DURING THE RECALL. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.
MASSIVE CONSUMPTION OF OIL. MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 CONSUMES APPROXIMATELY A QUART OF OIL IN 500 MILES. THIS IS VERY EXCESSIVE AND MEANS THAT I HAVE TO FILL THE OIL 10 TIMES BEFORE THE "5000 MILE" OIL CHANGE. TOYOTA DID ISSUE A TSB AND RAN THE CAR THROUGH A TEST AND DEEMED THE LOSS OF OIL ACCEPTABLE WHICH I FIND LUDICROUS. ACCEPTABLE IS BEING DOWN 1/4 A QUART AFTER 5000 MILES. BUT IF I WAITED TIL MY OIL CHANGE THE ENGINE WOULD BE DESTROYED. AND THE VERY LEAST THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE RECALL ON THE REAR SUSPENSION EPOXIED THE BAR IN PLACE. NOW IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO AN ALIGNMENT. TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY AND VSC LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION LEADING TO THE ENGINE PROBLEM, NEARLY STALLING ON HIGHWAY (MY TWO YOUNG BOYS IN THE CAR), VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION - ALMOST NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. I CHANGE OIL EVERY 3K-4K MILES. AS I READ UP MORE ON THE ISSUE, TOYOTA HAS A DESIGN FLAW IN ITS PISTONS, LEASING TO OIL CONSUMPTION (2006-08 RAV4) WITH THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE. TOYOTA PERFORMED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST (2 STEP ON 10/05/2017), MY CAR FAILED (TOO MUCH OIL CONSUMPTION), BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX, AS MY RAV4 PASS THE WARRANTY DATE. BOUGHT THE RAV4 AT TOYOTA OF MORRISTOWN, NJ IN MAY 2007. OTHER TOYOTA MODELS ALSO USE THE SAME ENGINE. THEY SOLD ME (AND MANY OTHERS TOO) THE RAV4 EVEN WITH THE KNOWN DESIGN FLAWS. IT WILL COST OVER $3.5K TO REBUILD THE ENGINE AT TOYOTA. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS, THEY ONLY ISSUED A FIX IN 2011 WITHIN TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS.
