TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V596000 (SUSPENSION). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. ALL RECALLS HAVE BEEN FIXED AND THEN I STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE OCCUPATION DETECTOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. IT IS NOT REGISTERING THAT THERE IS AN OCCUPANT OVER 1/2 THE TIME. SINCE THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR (ABOUT 500$) I TAKE IT TO HEART KNOWING MY VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AT ALL TIMES. I DO HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND THIS IS OUR PRIMARY FAMILY VEHICLE. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A PART THAT AN OWNER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. EVERY NOW AND THEN IT WILL FUNCTION BUT IT'S BEEN ON SOLID FOR OVER TWO WEEKS. HENCE MY EMAIL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW RIGHT AFTER AN OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO C.F. SCHWARTZ TOYOTA (1536 N DUPONT HWY, DOVER, DE 19901, (302) 734-5748) AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO WATCH AND CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AFTER FUEL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. ONE MONTH LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM THAT REQUIRED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT THE COST OF $4,000. THE WARRANTY HAD SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS, BUT THE EXPIRATION DATE HAD PASSED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK FRAME WASN'T PROPERLY CLOSED OUT WHICH RESULTED IN THE DEGRADATION OF PADDING AND EVENTUAL CUTTING THROUGH OF THE SEAT COVER FABRIC OVER THE COURSE OF TIME. THE FRAME HAS A SHARP EDGE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ROUNDED OR COVERED IN A MANNER SO AS NOT TO CUT INTO THE PADDING. AT THIS POINT THE FRAME HAS CUT THROUGH A PORTION OF THE FABRIC AND IS CUTTING INTO THE DRIVER. THE PRIMARY SAFETY CONCERN IS THE SHARP FRAME COULD CAUSE INJURY TO THE DRIVER (ESPECIALLY IF THE VEHICLE WAS REAR-ENDED IN AN OFF-CENTER, DRIVER SIDE IMPACT) BY CUTTING INTO THE DRIVER'S BACK. PER DISCUSSION WITH THEIR CUSTOMER HOTLINE TODAY, TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST IN THE REPAIR OF THE SEAT.
RAV 4 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT COMES ON HAD TO SPEND OVER $1000.00 TO GET IT TO STAY OFF CHARCOAL CANISTER HAD TO REPLACED, CAR ONLY HAS 92000 MILES, REPAIR TECH STATED THAT WHILE THIS LIGHT WAS ON, I COULD NOT USE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IF NEEDED
AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, 1 QUART EVERY 1500 MILES. NO OIL LEAKS IDENTIFIED. IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE RELATED TO 2AZ-FE ENGINES DUE TO DESIGN ISSUES RELATED TO PISTONS AND RINGS. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH CAN CAUSE A STALL OF ENGINE DUE TO LOW AMOUNT OF OIL. TOYOTA DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE ENGINE DUE TO JUST EXPIRED WARRANTY (10 YEARS/150K MILES).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE MUFFLER WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO JACK TAYLOR'S ALEXANDRIA TOYOTA (3750 RICHMOND HWY, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22305), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY DUMPED ALL OF OIL IN DRIVEWAY DUE TO DEFECTIVE AD RECALLED VALVE OIL HOSE. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE VEHICLE TO NEARBY MECHANIC. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO KINGS TOYOTA, CINCINNATI OHIO. HOWEVER, RECALLED OIL HOSE DAMAGED THE INTAKE CAM GEARS. KINGS TOYOTA STATED THEY WILL COVER THE RECALLED PART BUT REFUSE TO COVER THE DAMAGED ENGINE REPAIR. COST OF REPAIR IS $3340.78 + TAX. KINGS TOYOTA ALSO REFUSES TO REIMBURSE FOR TOWING FEE AND RENTAL CAR. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE, RECALLED PART. THE RECALL IS CALLED THE EXTENSION OF LSK 090K CAMPAIGN TO DECEMBER 31, 2021.
2008 TOYOTA RAV4 - EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ON 2AZ-FE ENGINE LSC ZE7 MY DAUGHTERS TOYOTA RAV4 WAS CONSUMING AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF OIL. WE ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THE CAR WAS BURNING OIL. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH, WE DISCOVERED IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. TOYOTA HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS AND/OR 150,000 MILES FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE (ZE7). THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AUGUST 2008. WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2017 FROM A FAMILY MEMBER. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY THOUGHT THAT THE CAR JUST BURNED A LOT OF OIL. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SEPTEMBER 2018, ONE MONTH BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. TOYOTA AGREED TO START THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH REQUIRED THEM TO CEIL THE ENGINE AND OIL STICK. WE WERE TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR 1100 TO 1300 MILES. THE CAR HAD THE BE TOWED BACK TO TOYOTA AT 1600 MILES DUE TO THE OIL LIGHT FLASHING ON AND OFF. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE CAR MOST LIKELY HAS THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE, BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 318 MILES OVER THE LIMIT, TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THEY MUST RESTART THE TEST AND REFUSE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY. A TUNE UP WAS DONE BY TOYOTA A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. WHEN WE DISCOVERED THAT THE OIL LEAK WAS POTENTIALLY RELATED TO A KNOWN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE, WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO START THE PHASE 1 TEST. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MARKED THE OIL AS SEVERELY LOW. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE CAR RUN LOW ON OIL, WHEN THE OIL WAS FILLED BY TOYOTA AND WAS DRIVEN ONLY 1600 MILES. The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that her husband checked the oil level and noticed that the oil level was low. The contact stated that two weeks prior to the failure, an oil change service was performed. The contact stated that her husband added oil; however, two weeks later he checked the oil level again and the oil level was low. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed one quart of oil every two weeks or approximately every 200 miles. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the service manager stated that it was a known issue with the vehicle. The contact was notified of a TSB however, the vehicle was over the mileage. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
CAR CONSUMPTION MORE OIL IT HAVE ONLY 70000 MILEAGE AND SEAT BELT GETTING STUCK SHOULD BE ENGINE AND SEAT BELT SAFETY ISSUE
I NOTICED THAT I WAS LOSING OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE DEALER THAT HAS ALWAYS CHANGED MY OIL FOUND NO LEAKS. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE HAD A RECALL COVERING LOSS OF OIL BUT THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED SIX WEEKS PRIOR. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS WARRANTY. IF TOYOTA MANUFACTURED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE, WHY IS THE RECALL TIME SENSITIVE? THE DEALER NEVER NOTIFIED ME THAT MY YEAR MODEL VEHICLE HAD THIS ISSUE. *JS
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4 AND AT THE TIME OF THE ISSUE IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 150K MILES. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING A GROWLING/WHIRRING NOISE STARTED TO COME FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AND VOLUME OVER TIME. AFTER REPLACING BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS IT WAS DETERMINED BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COUPLER/BEARING. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT A WARRANTY REPLACEMENT FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE EXPIRED IN NOVEMBER OF 2017. THE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE WAS NOTICED IN OCTOBER OF 2018. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT THOUSANDS OF RAV4 OWNERS HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR OUT OF POCKET. THE DEFECTIVE BEARING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED UNDER A RECALL AS THEY WILL NOT GET ANY BETTER AND TOYOTA HAS ALREADY ADMITTED THE PART IS FAULTY BY ISSUING THE WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. TOYOTA MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS AND A RECALL MUST BE ISSUED.
HAVE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. ENGINE LIGHT KEPT GOING ON. TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR AND SERVICED AT. THEY RECOMMENDED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. PERFORMED THE TEST AND IT FAILED. DEALER AND TOYOTA CORPORATE SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO. CLAIMED THEY SENT A RECALL LETTER THAT I NEVER RECEIVED. I DON'T BELIEVE THERE WAS A RECALL JUST A MAJOR DEFECT IN THEIR POWERTRAIN. THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN MY DAUGHTERS PROCESSION AND HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS THE ENGINE COULD SEAZE OR CATCH FIRE LEADING TO A CRASH. IN RESEARCHING I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT AMONGST VARIOUS TOYOTA MODALS AND MODAL YEARS. IF THERE WAS A RECALL THEM I BELIEVE THE TOYOTA DEALER SERVICING THE VEHICLE WAS NEGLIGENT TO FOR PRESCRIBING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND NOT TELLING ME OF ALL RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. IF THERE WAS NO RECALL THEN TOYOTA IS NEGLIGENT FOR KNOWINGLY AVOIDING A DEFECT AND NOT STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE OR REPAIR IT SO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS ELIMINATE. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

STARTED TO USE A QUART OF OIL EVERY FEW HUNDRED MILES. TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT NEEDS THE NEW PISTONS AND RINGS. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WILL NOT DO IT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS 4 MONTHS PAST THE WARRANTY EXTENSION TOYOTA ISSUED. THAT POLICY WAS FOR 10YRS OR 150,000 MILES, MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 123,000 MILES ON IT BUT AS MENTIONED BEFORE IT IS 10 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS OLD.

I'M EXPERIENCING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WITHOUT ENGAGING THE PEDAL FROM A STATIONARY POSITION.
MY RAV4 IS NOW BURNING OIL. I AM PUTTING OIL INTO IT BEFORE I GET TO THE DATE OF MY NEXT SERVICE. I'VE HEARD ABOUT AN ENHANCED WARRANTY THAT WENT OUT TO DEALERS THAT TOLD ABOUT THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH PISTONS AND RINGS BUT THE DEALERS CHOSE NOT TO TELL CUSTOMERS ABOUT IT. HOW DO WE FIX THE PROBLEM NOW?
ENGINE IS USING EXCESSIVE OIL AT THE RATE OF .9 QUARTS PER 1200 MILES. DEALER SAID THIS IS NORMAL AND TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER ANY WORK UNDER WARRANTY.
I HAVE A TOYOTA RAV4 2008 WITH A 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS ENGINE HAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM AND HAD A WARRANTY RECALL. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE. I ALWAYS HAVE THE OIL CHANGED FROM THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THIS RECALL UNTIL IT HAD EXPIRED BY SIX WEEKS. I NOTICED THAT IT WAS LOSING OIL SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND TOLD ME THEIR WAS NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF OIL LEAKING OUT AND THEN TOLD ME ABOUT ABOUT THE RECALL. THEY SAID I COULD SPEND 2500.00 DOLLARS TO GET IT REPAIRED. MY QUESTION IS IF TOYOTA MANUFACTURED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE THAT LOSES OIL (MOST LIKELY BURNING IT) THEN WHY IS THIS A TIMED EVENT? IF I HAVE THIS VEHICLE WITH THIS ENGINE THEN THEY SHOULD CORRECT THE RECALLED ISSUE AT NO CHARGE TO ME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE THAT HAD THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER KNEW I OWNED THIS CAR THAT WAS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND NEVER MENTIONED IT. WHO IS GOING TO REPAIR THIS RECALLED PROBLEM? THANKS.
IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY MY TECHNICIAN THAT I HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BECAUSE I GO THROUGH A LOT OF OIL. I TOOK IT TO NALLEY TOYOTA OF ROSWELL GA ON 11/7/17 AND MY CAR "PASSED" THE TEST, HOWEVER MY CAR STILL CONSUMES OIL AT RATES NOT HEALTHY FOR THE CAR. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER; MARIETTA TOYOTA IN GEORGIA ON 6/21/18. THEY TESTED THE CAR, ADDED 2 QUARTS OF OIL AND SAID THAT I HAVE AN ISSUE, HOWEVER 10 YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE 6/6/06, THE FIRST USE OF THE CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE MANIFESTED ITSELF IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME BETWEEN DEALER VISITS. I BELIEVE THAT I WAS IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSED BY THE FIRST DEALER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM.
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN I HEARD A LOUD POP THEN A THUMP LIKE SOMETHING FALLING ON THE BACK FLOOR AND HITTING THE SIDE OF THE CAR. THOUGHT, AT FIRST IT WAS THE ITEMS IN MY BACK CARGO SPACE RISING UP AND FALLING AS IF I HIT A SPEED BUMP TOO FAST. I WAS ONLY TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROAD WHEN I HEARD THE LOUD NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A PLACE THAT GAVE FREE ESTIMATES AND THEY DISCOVERED THE DRIVERS SIDE SWAY BAR BOLT HAD BROKE OFF. THEY SAID IT WAS FROM RUSTING AND IT FINALLY GAVE. WAS RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES. NOT HAPPY AS I ALREADY PUT MUCH MONEY INTO THIS CAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT 3 YEARS AGO.
OVER OIL CONSUMPTION
I AM HAVING A STEERLING NOISE ISSUE WHEN BACKING UP OR MOVING FORWARD THERE'S A LOUD CLUNK FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AREA THAT I CAN FEEL IN THE WHEEL. I FEEL IT IN THE WHEEL WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY OR UNEVEN SURFACES AS WELL AS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND IDLING WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LOCKS. THIS VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED MY AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC WHO FOUND NO ISSUES WITH THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM BUT DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS AN INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE AND THERE WAS ABNORMAL MOVEMENT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. A DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,600.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DOWNEAST TOYOTA IN BREWER, MAINE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING ON JULY 6, 2017, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COUPLER FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE NINE YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WORN OUT : MAKING CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING EITHER WAY ALSO WHEN REVERSING CAR TOYOTA TECHNICIAN FOUND THIS DEFECT/ISSUE
VERY BAD CLUNKING / POPPING SOUND WHEN I BACK UP AND TURN MY WHEELS. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY WHEN I FIRST DRIVE THE SUV IN THE MORNING. ONLY HAS 96,000 MILES ON IT.
BURNING MOTOR OIL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT COULD NOT PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-331-4331 AND ASKED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. A CASE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 213,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 RAV 4 AND I MADE A TURN & ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL LITERALLY BECAME FREE FLOATING. I CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL 8 TO 12 INCHES UP AND DOWN WITH NO RESISTANCE. I CAN ALSO MOVE IT 6 TO 8 INCHES LEFT TO RIGHT WITH NO RESISTANCE. IT'S NOT GUIDED IN ANY WAY, YOU CAN MOVE IT AROUND IN A LARGE CIRCULAR MOTION. I WAS ABLE TO STILL STEER SOMEWHAT. THE COLUMN STILL SEEMS TO BE ATTACHED TO SOMETHING. WHEN YOU DO STEER, IT MAKES A HORRIBLE POPPING SOUND. THE DEALERSHIP SAID: A FRAME WELD DID GIVE OUT FOR THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY IS EVERYTHING BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE STEERING ASSEMBLY IS MOUNTED TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT BAR. THIS IS A LARGE BAR THAT RUNS THE LENGTH OF YOUR DASHBOARD. THIS BAR HAS A FEW WELDED MOUNTS ON IT THAT ALLOW YOU TO BOLT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY INTO, IT IS THESE WELDS WHICH FAILED. THE AIR DUCT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FELL ONTO MY FEET/PEDALS WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY IT DIDNT GET CAUGHT BEHIND MY PEDALS. I SOFT DRIVE APPROX 8000-9000 MILES A YEAR. I'VE HAD NO ACCIDENTS. TOYOTA IS CHARGING ME $2200 TO REPLACE THIS & WILL NOT COER THE COSTS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE & I DID RESERCH & THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES! TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM (TSB TO DEALERS) BUT REFUSE TO OFFER ANY RESTITUTION TO CUSTOMERS IF THE VEHICLE HAS PASSED THE 60,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I HAVE A TOYOTA RAV 4 (2008), WHICH I LOVE. IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR. NO REAL PROBLEMS TO SPEAK OF. BUT AT AROUND 146,000 MILES I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE MY OIL LIGHT COME ON 1/4 OF THE WAY THROUGH MY REGULAR MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. I ADDED OIL AND MADE A MENTAL NOTE TO BRING IT UP TO MY MECHANIC. ANOTHER 1/4 OF THE WAY THE OIL LIGHT COMES BACK ON. I HAD TO ADD MORE OIL. MY CAR HAS 149,000 MILES ON IT NOW. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE EVERY 5,000 MILES SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW. IT IS NOW BURNING ABOUT 1 QUART EVERY 1200 MILES. THIS JUST HAPPENS TO BE THE AMOUNT THAT TOYOTA CALLS A PROBLEM AND EXCESSIVE, BUT MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY.
