TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (ZE7) PHASE 2: 2006 - 2008 MY RAV4 WARRANTY POLICY BULLETIN POL 14-12 12/16/14 DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOYOTA FAILED TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS ISSUE DESPITE MY TAKING MY VEHICLE IN FOR NUMEROUS RECALL ISSUES, AND MY ORDERING SEALS FOR MY OIL SYSTEM DUE TO OIL LOSS.
AFTER SECOND RECALL ON REAR SUSPENSION THAT OCCURRED IN NOVEMBER 2016, I HAD TO REPLACE MY TIRES ABOUT 20K MILES PREMATURELY BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE WEAR ON INSIDE RIM. WHEN I WENT TO HAVE IT ALIGNED, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED TO ALIGN THEM HAD STICKERS ON THEM IDENTIFYING THEM AS HAVING BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOW NON ADJUSTABLE. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM BECAUSE I MUST HAVE DRIVEN OVER A CURB OR A POTHOLE BEFORE THE EPOXY HAD SET IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO COME OUT OF ALIGNMENT. SO APPARENTLY NOW IF I DRIVE OVER A POTHOLE, INSTEAD OF A >$100 ALIGNMENT BILL, I WILL HAVE A $1000 BILL TO REPLACE THE REAR SUSPENSION. UNACCEPTABLE.

THE CONTACT WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A STEERING COLUMN FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 16V596000 (SUSPENSION) AND 16V096000 (SEAT BELTS); HOWEVER, THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A 3-LANE CITY STREET, CROSSING A TWO-LANE INTERSECTION. VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BROADSIDE AT THE PASSENGER REAR QUARTER PANEL, SPUN AROUND 720 DEGREES BEFORE COMING TO REST. VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING ACCIDENT. PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY, ONLY DRIVER WITH NO PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE AT TIME OF ACCIDENT. DRIVER DID GET PUSHED INTO DRIVER'S DOOR/WINDOW DURING THE ACCIDENT, BUT WAS UNINJURED. 3 ATTACHED PICTURES SHOW DAMAGE TO VEHICLE PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. NO DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
I OWN TOYOTA RAV 4 2008. I PURCHASED A USED CERTIFIED VEHICLE IN 2009. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR SUCH THAT ENGINE STARTED STALLING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVE TO MY HOME. ON THE DASH BOARD I SAW THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO HOME SAFELY AND UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ENGINE OIL LEVEL WAS WAY DOWN TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS NOT DETECTABLE AT ALL. THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE DIP STICK. I LOOKED AT THE SERVICE RECORD AND MY CAR WAS SERVICED ON OCT 15TH 2016 FOR OIL CHANGE AND OTHER OTHER SAFETY RECALL. ON OCTOBER 15, 2016 THE MILEAGE WAS 83406. THE NEXT SERVICE WAS DUE ON MARCH 15 OR AT 88406 MILES. I CALLED THE DCH TOYOTA OF SIMI VALLEY DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASKED TO COME IN THE MORNING FOR INSPECTION. THEN I WENT TO AUTOMOTIVE STORE AND PURCHASED 5W-20 OIL, IT TOOK 3 QUART OF OIL AND I WAS TO SEE THE OILS LEVEL AS NORMAL ON DIP STICK. THEN I ARGUED WITH DEALER THAT IT SHOULD NOT CONSUME 3 OR MORE QUART OF OIL. I WENT TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HE CHECKED THE TAIL PIPE AND HE SAW BURNED OIL. HE CONFIRMED THAT ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. THEN I CALLED TOYOTA MOTOR AND COMPLAINED THAT ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. THEY AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO DO THE OILS CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY WILL INVESTIGATE ON HOW MUCH OIL IT BURNS? DCH TOYOTA OF SIMI VALLEY DID THE OIL CONSUMPTION STUDY AND REPORTED THAT MY CAR DID NOT CONSUME ENOUGH OILS TO DO THE WARRANTY REPAIR. THEY SAID IT ONLY CONSUMED 3/4 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200 MILES AND IT PASSED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. STILL I HAVE THE SAME CAR I PUT ABOUT 2 OR MORE QUART EVERY 1500 MILES. THE ENGINE REPAIR WILL COST ME $5000.00 DOLLARS OR MORE. I THINK DEALER DID FLAWED STUDY ON OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO DO WARRANTY REPAIR.
HOOD LATCH FAILURE. DRIVING FOR OVER 3 HOURS ON HIGHWAY, SUDDEN GUST OF WIND, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE HOOD POPPED UP. WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOW, PULL OVER, AND CLOSE HOOD. BACKED UP WITH BUNGEE UNTIL I GOT HOME. I'VE REPLACED THE LATCH, (WITH TOYOTA OEM LATCH) BUT HAVE NOTICED WHEN SPEEDS APPROACH 65 PLUS, THE HOOD REALLY VIBRATES.
REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLIES IN FALL 2016 I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM. THREE TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIR. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED ONCE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. IF THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE WHY THE DELAY IN OBTAINING THE NECESSARY PARTS? TOYOTA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EXPEDITE THE REMEDIATION OF THIS SAFETY RECALL. THANK YOU,
TOYOTA RAV4 2008. EXCESSIVE OIL USE. ENGINE IS USING EXCESSIVE OIL, ABOUT A QUART EVERY 1,200 MILES AND USE MAY BE INCREASING IN USE. THUS VEHICLE CAN USE UP OIL WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING AN ENGINE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING THE HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE. WHILE VEHICLE MAY BE WELL MAINTAINED THIS CAN HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING AND STRAND PASSENGERS AND BE A SAFETY CONCERN SHOULD THE ENGINE BLOW WHILE TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS WHICH THIS FALLS UNDER BUT DEALER EXAMINATION INDICATED IT WAS NOT USING ENOUGH OIL ACCORDING TO THEM BUT IN MY TEST I SHOWED USING 1 QUART IN 1,200 MILES. EVEN A LITTLE UNDER THIS AMOUNT OF OIL USE IS EXCESSIVE AS IT INDICATES THIS ENGINE HAS A PROBLEM AS TOYOTA HAS IDENTIFIED. SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WILLING TO REPAIR. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER TOYOTA T-SB-0158-14. DEALER WOULD NOT TELL ME HOW MUCH OIL WAS USED IN THEIR TEST. AGAIN ANYTHING IN THE RANGE OF 1 QUART OF OIL IN ABOUT 1,200 MILES IS A INDICATOR THAT THE ENGINE IS EXPERIENCING TOYOTA'S IDENTIFIED DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT.
"TAKATA RECALL" I HAD A WRECK MARCH 8, 2017 AND I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL AND LANDED IN SOME HEAVY BUSHES ON A OFF RAMP. WHEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NECK PROBLEMS AND PUT A REPORT INTO MY INSURANCE. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE STEERING PROBLEM HAPPEN. ON I-5 58 SOUTH BOUND OFF RAMP NEAR INTERSECTION WITH NW MORGAN STREET, GRANTS PASS, OREGON HAPPEN SO FAST COULD NOT BREAK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE OCCUPANT SUSTAINED LEFT AND RIGHT BROKEN ARMS, STITCHES, AND A BROKEN ROTATOR CUFF. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED AT WEST CHESTER MEDICAL CENTER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON EVERY APPROX. 750 MILES INDICATING OIL LEVEL LOW. STARTED DOING THIS 9/5/15 AT 90,095 MILES. OIL LEVEL APPROX. 1 TO 1-1/2 QUARTS LOW. TODAY MY HUSBAND ADDED MORE OIL. THIS IS STILL HAPPENING AND PER WEBSITES, TOYOTA RECOGNIZES PISTON DESIGN DEFECT, BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR VEHICLES OUT OF WARRANTY SUCH AS MINE.
I HAVE SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES BUT THE DEALERS DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEMS, WHAT CAN I DO NOW?

ONCE HOME, THE CONTACT CHECKED THE OIL STICK AND NOTICED THAT THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WON'T STAY UP. APPARENTLY THIS IS WELL-KNOWN DEFECT THAT HAS AN EXPENSIVE FIX OF REPLACING THE VISOR AND THAT IT IS COMMON AND A DEFECT FROM TOYOTA.

WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMES FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. IT FEELS VERY UNSAFE AND SCAREY TO DRIVE. WAS TOLD IT IS THE STEERING AND THAT TOYOTA IS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR CAR, HOWEVER SINCE NOBODY HAS DIED YET IT IS NOT BEING RECALLED. THE STEERING IS SOMETIMES UNRELIABLE AND I NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL STEER WHERE I WANT IT TO OR NOT. I AM AFFRAID TO DRIVE IT, TOYOTA TELLS ME ITS SAFE. I HAVE 106.700 MILES ON MY CAR AND I START HEAR CLICKING AND KNOCKING NOISES INSIDE ON MY RACK AND PINION WHEN MY CAR IS NOT IN MOTION AND I TURN MY WHEEL I HEAR THIS NOISE ALSO WHEN II HIT POTHOLES I FEEL SOMETHING LOOSE IN MY STEERING WHEEL AS FAR AS IM SEARCHIG MANY PEOPLE OF TOYOTA RAV4 OWNERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM, TOYOTA SHOULD MAKE THIS AS A RECALL
IT HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND HAS FOR AT LEAST A YEAR THAT I HAVE BEEN AWARE OF. I HAVE TO ADD AT LEAST A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES OR LESS. I FEEL I HAVE TO CARRY OIL EVERYWHERE AND THAT I NEED TO CHECK THE DIP STICK FREQUENTLY. THE DEALER HAS CHARGED A FAIR AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THINGS THAT HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET AND NOW IS QUOTING ME $3800.00 FOR ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC/REPAIR. THEY NEVER ONCE MENTIONED TO ME THAT THERE IS A KNOWN CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE TYPE ON ANY OF MY OTHER EXPENSIVE VISITS TO THEM BACK WHEN MY MILEAGE WAS UNER 150,000 MILES. IT'S KNOW OVER 167,000 MILES AND SO IS NOT COVERED BY THEIR SO CALLED WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM.
TOYOTA RAV4 2008 LIMITED SUNROOF EXPLODED GOING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE (NO OTHER FACTORS, SUCH AS WE WERE NOT UNDER/HAD NOT JUST GONE UNDER AN INTERSTATE OVERPASS). I WAS DRIVING - SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. HUSBAND IN PASSENGER SEAT AND SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD POP. GLASS SHATTERED ALL OVER US. WE PULLED OVER, PATCHED IT THE BEST THAT WE COULD AND TOOK STATE ROADS HOME (3 HR INTERSTATE DRIVE VS 5 1/2 HOUR, 55 MPH BARELY DRIVE HOME. TOOK TWO REPLACEMENT SUNROOF KITS TO GET IT RIGHT. INSURANCE PAID IN FULL UNDER GLASS POLICY.

HAVE CALLED A FEW TOYOTA DEALERS IN THE AREA TO GET THIS URGENT RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. NOBODY HAS THE PARTS. WHY IS TOYOTA SAYING THIS IS AN "URGENT SAFETY RECALL" - QUOTE FROM FRONT OF NOTICE - YET NOT PROVIDING THE PARTS TO THE DEALERS? ONE DEALER SAID NO BOLTS. ANOTHER DEALER SAID NO SUSPENSION ARMS. I AM CURRENTLY #139 ON THEIR LIST, ONCE THE PARTS COME IN. CAN YOU REALLY ISSUE AN URGE NT SAFETY RECALL, YET NOT PROVIDE THE PARTS FOR REPAIR????
TOYOTA WANTS TO REPLACE MY REAR SUSPENSION ARMS, ALIGN MY WHEELS AND THE ENCASE ARMS IN EPOXY. THIS WILL PREVENT ANY FUTURE ALIGNMENTS TO MY CAR WITHOUT HAVING TO REPLACE THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. SOMETHING THAT WAS DONE ON THE LAST RECALL OF THE FRONT END. HOWEVER THIS TIME THEY ARE REFUSING TO DO THE SAME THING. THIS IS NOT RETURNING THE CONDITION OF MY CAR TO THE CONDITION IT WAS IN WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. AND IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME.

ZE7 REPAIR OIL CONSUMPTION - I FAILED THIS TEST AND THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. THIS WAS AFTER MONTHS OF HAVING TO ADD OIL (AFTER THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON). 2 MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR THE BEARINGS ON THE BALANCE SHAFTS FLEW APART RENDERING THE CAR UNDRIVEABLE. THE REPAIR SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE LOWER BLOCK IS NOT TO BE OPENED EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE ON AN ENGINE THAT HAS HAD OIL PROBLEMS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE REPAIR (AT NO COST TO ME) WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLEVIATED THIS ISSUE. THE FAILURE OF TOYOTA CORP TO NOTIFY OWNER OF RAV4'S OF THIS ISSUE, FIXING THE ISSUE BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM AND THEN NOT INSPECTING THE ENTIRE ENGINE FOR LOW OIL GENERATED PROBLEMS HAS NOW LEFT ME WITH A $6500 DOLLAR REPAIR WHICH MORE THAN THE KELLEY BLUE PRICE OF THE CAR. I AM HOPING TO HAVE THIS COVERED BUT SO FAR HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL. I AM NOW DOWN ONE VEHICLE WHICH HAS FURTHER COMPLICATED THINGS.
I BOUGHT MY TOYOTA WITH 47316 MILES, NO WARRANTY. AT 49000 MILES MY POWER STEERING LITE STARTED INTERMITTENTLY COMING ON, AT 60000 MILES IT COMES ON ALL THE TIME . TOOK THE VECHILE TO LOCAL TOYOTA, WAS TOLD BY ONE GENTLEMAN HE HAS SEEN THIS RECENTLY. COULDN'T FIX IT AS THEY HAVE NO PROGRAMS FOR THE ISSUE. TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA, THEY MAY HELP ME WITH THIS HIGH PRICE ISSUE. TALK TO TWO DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES AT MAIN NUMBER. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING SINCE, I HAVE NOT HAD TOYOTA DO MY MAINTENANCE. I EXPLAINED TO THEM, I HAVE NOT HAD IT LONG. BUT I HAVE YEARS OF PREVIOUS OWNERS TOYOTA MAINTENANCE. SAID IT'S NOT IN MY NAME, I CAN'T CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE P/S LIGHT IS ON. CAN TAKE UP TO 16 TRUE TO GET IT OFF. TOYOTA RESET IT , CODE CAME RIGHT BACK. I HAVE TRIED TO GET A SUSPENSION SAFETY RECALL FIXED FOR EIGHT MONTHS, BUT THE THREE DEALERS SAY THE PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED NATIONALLY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE, BUT STILL NO PARTS. THE RECALL SYS IF THE SUSPENSION ARMS COME LOOSE, YOU CAN LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. WHY DON'T THEY MAKE MORE PARTS AND MAKE THIS A PRIORITY?

AN ALIGNMENT WILL BE PERFORMED, AS WELL, AND WARNING LABELS WILL BE APPLIED. " THIS IS OBVIOUSLY UNACCEPTABLE, AS ENCASING THEM IN EPOXY WILL NEGATE ANY ABILITY TO ALIGN THE SUSPENSION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IF THIS IS OCCURRING ON THIS MODEL HOW MANY OTHERS ARE IDENTICAL, IF NO OTHER MODEL HAS ISSUE, THEN ISSUE NEW PARTS THAT HAVE THOSE DESIGN ASPECTS INCORPORATED.

BACKING MY RAV4 OUT OF THE GARAGE AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, I DID A THREE POINT TURN IN THE DRIVE WAY. WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE AGAIN TO GET CLOSER TO MY GARAGE THE SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. ONLY THE SIDE BAGS AND SEAT BELTS, AND I DID NOT CONTACT ANYTHING. TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS (OR DIAGNOSIS), AND INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS!

THERE ARE 2 ISSUES WITH THE CAR: 1. THE AIR DYNAMICS OF THE CAR MAKES ALL SMALL PEBELS RUN INTO THE WINDSHIELD. MY CAR PROBABLY CAUGHT 10 OR MORE OF THEM. MY WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED TWICE. THERE IS A BULL EYE AND OTHER SMALL ROCK-CONTACT INCIDENTS 2. SPARE TIRE MOUNTED ON THE BACK HAS A COVER THAT TENDS TO LOOSE IF GOING THROUGH THE CAR WASH. TOOK PLACE TWICE. IMAGINE THE HAZARD IT PRESENTS TO CARS NEXT IN LINE IN CONVEYOR BELT WHEN THE COVER FALLS OFF RIGHT UNDERNEATH OF THEIR CARS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO

AN "URGENT SAFETY RECALL" WAS ISSUED FOR MY CAR IN AUGUST 2016 FOR THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM WHICH CAN CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. MY DEALER IS STILL UNABLE TO GET THE PARTS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A REMEDY BUT A SHORTAGE OF PARTS, AND TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO BE PUT ON THE WAITING LIST. REALLY? I'VE ALREADY WAITED 18 MONTHS. I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE EVERY DAY AND HEAR GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
A ROD IN THE RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME IT WAS PART REPLACED IN A SAFETY RECALL, AND THAT THE LEFT SIDE PART WAS NEAR FAILURE AS WELL. THIS RECALL OCCURRED IN 20124 AND IS LABELED CSJ. MY MECHANIC RECOMMENDED I CONTACT TOYOTA. TOYOTA TOLD ME THERE WAS NO FURTHER ACTION ON THIS RECALL AND THE RECALL REPLACEMENT WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY HAD NO INTEREST IN THE SAFETY ASPECT; THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED THAT PARTS ON BOTH SIDES HAD WERE FAILING AND THAT THIS MIGHT BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR OTHERS.
