I BROUGHT MY 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4 INTO THE ROMANO TOYOTA (6400 BASILE ROWE EAST SYRACUSE, NY 13057) SERVICE DEPARTMENT AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOR POSSIBLE RUSTING IN THE REAR SUSPENSION BAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ASSURED ME THAT THEY HAD THOROUGHLY CHECKED THE RECALLED PART, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. 5 MONTHS LATER, I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH ON A 3-LANE HIGHWAY, AND I SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT MY CAR, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS HANGING AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE TO THE CAR. AN INDEPENDENT AUTO BODY SHOP CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION BAR (THE PART THAT WAS RECALLED, AND THAT TOYOTA ASSURED ME WAS PERFECTLY FINE 5 MONTHS BEFORE), HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. ROMANO TOYOTA REFUSED TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM WITH US, AND SIMPLY REPEATED THAT "IF THEY LOOKED AT THE PART, THEN IT WAS FINE." WHILE TOYOTA CORPORATE CONFIRMED THE FINDINGS OF THE INDEPENDENT AUTO BODY SHOP AND REIMBURSED US FOR THE COSTS OF REPAIR, AS FAR AS I'M AWARE, TOYOTA HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO ENSURE THAT THIS TERRIFYING (AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY) EXPERIENCE DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANOTHER DRIVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT APPROACHED A TRAFFIC STOP AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A TROUBLE CODE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I NOTICED A STRANGE RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE WHEN STARTING MY CAR 1ST THING IN THE MORNING AND WHEN STARTING IT AFTER IT HAS SAT FOR A FEW HOURS; I RESEARCHED ONLINE FOR OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA HAS DISCOVERED AN ISSUE WITH THE CAM SHAFT ON SOME VEHICLES. I HAVE JUST LEARNED OF A 2ND RECALL ON MY VEHICLE, THIS ONE FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION AFTER VISITING THE TOYOTA WEBSITE, BUT I FOUND NOTHING ABOUT A RECALL REGARDING THE CAM SHAFT. I HAD PLANNED ON BRINGING THE CAM SHAFT ISSUE TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE TECH WHEN I TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION RECALL BUT AM UNSURE IF ANYTHING WILL BE DONE. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHT WITH RIGHT FOOT ON BRAKE, ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO VERY HIGH RPM. SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND ENGINE REVVED EVEN HIGHER. TURNED OFF IGNITION. SIGNAL TURNED GREEN AND SINCE I WAS IN TRAFFIC, DECIDED TO TRY TO START ENGINE AGAIN. ENGINE STARTED AND PERFORMED NORMALLY. IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WE ARE NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE! THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE HAD WE BEEN MOVING IN TRAFFIC! *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE RAV 4 AND HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A CAR. SHE HIT A TELEPHONE POLE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF FRONT END DAMAGE, BUT AT NO TIME DID THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. *TR
I WRITE THIS LETTER SEEKING FOR HELP. SINCE THE YEAR 2011 I AM HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE RIGHT WHEEL OF MY CAR WHERE THE TIRE STICKS CONSTANTLY. THE PANEL SHOWS THE LIGHT ON FOR ALL TIME. IN TWO YEARS ALREADY BOUGHT TWO TIRES, MY CAR IS THE YEAR 2009, I CONSIDER A NEW CAR. THE VISITS BEGAN TO BE FREQUENT IN THE COMPANY TOYOTA, WITH REPORT OF BUYING ANOTHER TIRE. I WONDER IF THIS PROBLEM BECOMES NORMAL. BECAUSE CHILDREN ARE IN MY CAR DAILY. *TR
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES LOUD "CLUNKING" NOISE AND NOTICEABLE SHAKING IN STEERING WHEEL WHILE TURNING AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED OF STEERING OR RELATED SUBCOMPONENT FAILURE WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I NOTICED MY SYMPTOMS ARE FAIRLY WIDE-SPREAD AMONGST OTHER RAV 4 OWNERS. *TR
I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. AS I SLOWED DOWN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SURGE. SINCE MY FOOT WAS ALREADY ON THE BRAKE I WAS ABLE TO PUSH DOWN HARDER ON IT TO STOP IT FROM HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO, AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO SURGE, I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK. WHEN I DID THIS THE ENGINE SURGED EVEN MORE. I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE BY TURNING THE KEY WHICH DID SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN. I THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT RAN NORMALLY. I WAS SOMEWHAT SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT. NOTE THAT THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLOOR MATS OR HITTING THE WRONG PEDAL. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE WHOLE TIME THE INCIDENT OCCURRED-IF IT HADN'T BEEN I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
I NOW REGRETTABLY OWN A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2013 FROM A CAR MAX DEALER IN POMPANO BEACH FLORIDA. I WAS NOT TOLD THAT THE CAR HAD TWO RECALLS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. I BROUGHT CAR BACK TO CAR MAX SEVERAL TIMES, THEY DID VARIOUS REPAIRS, NEW BRAKES AND ALIGNMENT. THEN I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THIS CAR HAS TWO RECALLS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA OF DEERFIELD BEACH FLORIDA AND WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL WAS NOT ON RECALL. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THIS CAR BUT THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND THE WHEEL DO NOT LINE UP PROPERLY. I CALLED TOYOTA USA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS CAR IS ON RECALL TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO TOYOTA OF DEER BEACH AND WAS TOLD BY THE MANGER [XXX], THAT THEY HAD ALREADY INSPECTED THE CAR AND ANY FURTHER INSPECTION WOULD COST ME MONEY. I CALLED TOYOTA USA BACK, WHILE STILL AT THE DEALER AND HAD THEN TALK TO [XXX] BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. HE REFUSED TO INSPECT THE CAR OR OFFER ANY REMEDY. HE SAID THAT I COULD PAY $89.00 FOR AN ALIGNMENT. I WENT HOME AND CALLED TOYOTA USA AGAIN. THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS INSPECTED IN MAY 2013 BEFORE I OWNED IT. I ASKED, WHAT WAS THE OUT COME OF THE INSPECTION. THEY COULD NOT ANSWER, MERELY STATED THAT I WILL BE CONTACTED BY THEM AND THAT THERE ARE NOT PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL. ONE OF THE RECALLS CONCERNS THE REAR SUSPENSION, ETC.THAT THEY CAN WEAR OUT AND MAY CAUSE DAMAGE. THE OTHER IS THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPROGRAMMED SO THAT THE DRIVER DOESN'T STEP ON THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BREAKS. CAMPAIGN #13V383000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, A STRANGE NOISE WAS EMITTED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE MAKING A TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 10 AND 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FLOPS DOWN AND WON'T STAY UP. THIS RESULTS IN IMPAIRED VISION AND CAN STARTLE A DRIVER INTO LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT 45 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND, CAUSING HIM TO CRASH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS THROWN INTO THE WINDSHIELD AND SUSTAINED NUMEROUS SEVERE TO MODERATE INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT END WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT A FIELD REPRESENTATIVE WOULD BE DISPATCHED THE FOLLOWING DAY TO FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. ONE MONTH LATER, THE REPRESENTATIVE STILL HAD NOT PERFORMED THE INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SINCE THE REPAIRS HAD ALREADY BEGUN, THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. I STARTED MY CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY - BUT IT STARTED THEN STOPPED AND WOULD NOT MOVE - THE POWER STEERING EMERGENCY LIGHT HAD TURNED ON AND THE POWER STEERING WASN'T WORKING. I TOWED THE CAR TO MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THE COMPUTER WAS FAULTY (ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR ?!!) AND I NEEDED A NEW ONE AT A PART COST OF ABOUT $700 AND LABOR COST OF $300-$400. THE CAR WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PART IF I PAID FOR THE LABOR. I WAS SUSPICIOUS OF WHY THEY AGREED TO DO THIS, BUT I AGREED. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I DROVE MY CAR DOWN MY DRIVEWAY AND ONTO THE ROAD AND AS I WAS TURNING THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND I COULD NOT STEER SO I CRASHED INTO A HEDGE. (BUT I COULD HAVE CRASHED AT HIGH SPEED AND BEEN KILLED) . I TOWED THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP - NOW THEY TELL ME THEY ARE REPLACING THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN, AT NO COST TO ME. OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. IF YOU GOOGLE IT, LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD POWER STEERING ISSUES AND EVEN CRASHED AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING FAULT. PLEASE LOOK FOR A PATTERN. *TR

THE WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON CONSTANTLY. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE NOISE VOLUME IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY LOUD WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND AN INSPECTOR WAS SENT TO FURTHER ASSESS THE VEHICLE FAILURE. THE INSPECTOR WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
VEHICLE STARTING A POPPING/BINDING FEEL WHEN MAKING A TURN LEFT OR RIGHT AT ABOUT 36000 MILES. IT BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED AND BY 42000 MILES IT COULD BE FELT WHEN SITTING STILL. TOYOTA TSO ISSUED TO REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A PROGRESSIVELY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT WILL CAUSE FAILURE AND LOSS OF LIFE ONE DAY. COST THE REPLACE SHAFT, $517.00. SEARCH FINDS MANY, MANY RAV4 OWNERS HAVE THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO DRIVE WHEN SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITH A RAPID INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED FIVE TIMES HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. ON THE SIXTH ATTEMPT, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. UPDATED 10/11/12*LJ
WHILE BRAKING (AT ABOUT 5 MPH) TO MAKE A TURN INTO OUR CARPORT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITH A RAPID INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK (TRIED TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL, BUT ENDED UP IN PARK). CAR RETURNED TO IDLE. IMMEDIATELY CHECK THE FLOOR MAT TO FIND IT WAS NOT A FACTOR. CALLED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA AND MADE APPOINTMENT FOR FOLLOWING WORK DAY. AFTER 1-1/2 WEEKS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND SAID NOTHING WAS FOUND WRONG WITH IT. HE NOTED THAT THE FLOOR MATS WERE AFTER MARKET FLOOR MATS AND NOT RECOMMENDED. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS CHECKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CAR RETURNED TO IDLE AND WAS NOT A FACTOR. HE ASSURED ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS CHECKED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND TURNING RIGHT WITH MY GRANDSON IN THE BACKSEAT, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE NO OTHER CAR AROUND ME AT THE TIME PULLED OVER AND LOOKED ALL AROUND THE CAR AND IN THE BACK TO SEE IF SOMETHING FELL OVER NOTHING WAS IN THE BACK. STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND HEARD WIND NOISE PULLED OVER AGAIN AND LOOKED ALL UNDER RAV AND TIRES GOT READY TO GET IN SIDE LOOKED UP ON THE TOP AND THE SUNROOF HAD A HOLE IN IT AND SHATTERED. NOTHING HIT IT JUST SHATTERED. IF HAD HAD THE INSIDE OPEN GLASS WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA SAID NOT IN WARRANTY AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PURCHASED DID NOT COVER EITHER, HAD TO FILE INSURANCE CLAIM. WAS NEVER ADVISED WHEN PURCHASED THAT THE SUNROOF COULD JUST EXPLODE AND SHATTER FOR NO REASON. NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I WILL NOT EVER OPEN THE INSIDE DOOR FOR THE SUNROOF AGAIN IF WOULD SHATTER WHILE OPEN WOULD GET GLASS ALL OVER EVERYONE. THANK GOODNESS WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 MILES HOUR AND THE INSIDE SUNROOF DOOR CLOSED WHEN HAPPENED. IF HAD BEEN GOING 65 MILES HOUR AND HAD THE SUNROOF INSIDE DOOR OPEN COULD HAVE CAUSED WRECK. *TR
COMING TO A RED LIGHT I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO SLOW THE CAR AND THE BRAKE FELT A LITTLE HARD AND WERE VERY SLOW TO REACT. BECAUSE I HAD ALLOWED ENOUGH DISTANCE TO THE LIGHT I WAS ABLE AFTER A MOMENT OR TO FEEL THE CAR BEGIN TO STOP. VERY FRIGHTENING BECAUSE IT FELT LIKE I WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE THE REACHING THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY THOUGHT THEY NEEDED TO RESET THE COMPUTER. AFTER CHECKING IT OUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS THIS ANOMALY OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME I HAD THEM CHECK BUT NO RESOLVE WAS FOUND. ON 8-17-14 THE DEALERSHIP HAD ME COMPLETE THEIR SURVEY OF THESE OCCURRENCES AND PERFORMED A SERIES OF DIAGNOSTICS. THEIR CONCLUSION WAS THAT MY FOOT MAY HAVE BEEN HITTING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THOSE OCCASIONS PLUS THEY ASK ME TO REMOVE A RUBBER MAT WHICH HAD BEEN OVER THE CAR'S ACCESSORY CARPET MAT. THAT RUBBER MAT HAS REMAINED OUT OF THE CAR EVER SINCE. I FELT THAT BOTH OF THOSE REMEDIES COULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE AS IF THAT WERE THE CASE THESE INCIDENTS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED MORE FREQUENTLY. MY SUSPICION IS THAT IT IS EITHER ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL ANOMALIES THAT ONLY OCCUR RARELY. I BELIEVE I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO DATE THAT WHEN THESE PRIOR EPISODES HAVE TAKEN PLACE THE CONDITIONS WERE MANAGEABLE. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS WHAT IF CONDITIONS WERE NOT SO.. I.E. I GOT A LETTER JULY 30 2012 FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA INC. THAT SAYS THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THAT IT IS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED, WITHIN FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS" "HOWEVER THE INSPECTION OF YOUR VEHICLE REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SORT OF A MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT AND WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE". I THOUGHT MY CAR WAS SAFE BUT NOW (THANK GOD NOBODY WAS HURT) I DON'T TRUST THIS CAR AND I LOST CONFIDENCE ON TOYOTA CARS. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. THIS CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND THEY KNOW IT. WITH THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL SET AT THE SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH, I CHANGED LANES AND BEGAN TO PASS THE TRUCK AHEAD OF OUR VEHICLE ON THIS TWO-LANE COUNTRY ROAD. INCREASING THE VEHICLE'S SPEED TO 70 MPH TO COMPLETE THE PASS OF THE OTHER VEHICLE AND RETURN TO THE EASTBOUND LANE, THE TOYOTA RAV4 UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED TO SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 85 MPH. AT THE TIME OF THE SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, THE PEDAL AREA WAS CHECKED AND CONFIRMED TO BE CLEAR OF ANY OBSTRUCTIONS, INCLUDING THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER-SIDE FLOOR MAT. WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF AND THE BRAKES CAUTIOUSLY APPLIED, THE TOYOTA RAV4 WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN FROM ITS STATE OF SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO TAKE BACK CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS BY COMPLETELY PRESSING THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR; HOWEVER, THE DECREASE IN SPEED WAS GRADUAL AT BEST, AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV OUT OF CONTROL. THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WERE FULLY ENGAGED IN THIS WAY UNTIL THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT, PARTIALLY ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AT A SPEED JUST UNDER 10 MPH. AGAIN AT THIS TIME, THE PEDAL AREA WAS CHECKED AND CONFIRMED TO BE CLEAR OF ANY OBSTRUCTIONS, INCLUDING THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER-SIDE FLOOR MAT. OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THREE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RECALL REPAIRS AND ONE FLOOR MAT RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED AND IS NOT REPROGRAMMABLE FOR THE BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM THAT IS BEING INSTALLED IN THE NEWEST TOYOTA MODELS. LATER I HAVE ESCALATED THIS TO TOYOTA CANADA, AS ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER FOUND THAT THE SHAFT INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN IS CRACKED. TOYOTA CANADA CLAIMS THAT TO BE A WEAR AND TEAR AND REFUSED TO COVER THAT AS MY WARRANTY WAS OVER EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD. WHEN HE PUSHED HIS FOOT MORE FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE STARTING RACING WILDLY. HE THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN HE RESTARTED THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. A VISUAL INSPECTION VERIFIED THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE GAS PEDAL AND THE GAS PEDAL MOVED PERFECTLY (NOT STUCK). CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE FLOOR MAT OR A STUCK GAS PEDAL CAUSED THIS ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED THREE TIMES WITH NO SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT WHICH DISENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL; IT STOPPED MOVING, BUT THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A LOUD NOISE UNTIL THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF. THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 22,900. 2009 TOYOTA RAV4 LEAKED FLUID. I LOST CONTROL OF CAR, STEERING, BRAKES & CAR ACCELERATED AT A RAPID PACE ON ITS OWN. I WAS TURNING LEFT AT ABOUT 20MPH HIT ANOTHER CAR ACCELERATED FAST WITH NO CONTROL WAS HEADED FOR A BUILDING WHEN RIGHT TIRE WENT OVER A CONCRETE PARKING BLOCK LEFT SIDE WAS ON GRASS WHEN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SNAPPED OFF & THE CAR STOPPED. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED & PAID FOR BY MY INSURANCE CO. AS WELL AS THE OTHER CAR INVOLVED. THE CAR HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION. I WAS NOT CITED BY POLICE BECAUSE IT WAS OBVIOUS THE FLUID FOLLOWED MY CAR UNTIL IT STOPPED. I DON'T AGREE WITH THE NHTSA FINDINGS ON TOYOTA'S ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. THE PEOPLE "TESTING" THE PROBLEM SHOULD DRIVE ONE OF THESE TOYOTAS WHEN IT ACCELERATES & FEEL THE FEAR I HAD DURING THIS ACCIDENT. THANK THE LORD I WAS NOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I WANT TO ENTER A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA BECAUSE I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN & LIVING ON A FIXED INCOME. I LIVE IN OHIO. I HAVE DRIVEN 52 YRS. & HAVE RECEIVED 1 TICKET 15 YRS. AGO FOR FAILING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. I AM DISAPPOINTED OUR GOVERNMENT IS IGNORING THIS COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA ACCELERATION. I HURT MY SHOULDER TRYING TO GET THE JAMMED DOOR OPEN BUT IT IS GETTING BETTER WITH THERAPY. TOYOTA TOOK THEIR "EVENT DATA RECORDER" OUT OF MY CAR GAVE ME A FLASH DRIVE WITH THE CODES ON IT BUT TOYOTA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DECIPHER THEIR CODES. YOU MUST TAKE THEIR WORD FOR THE CODING DECIPHER. MY CAR HAD 22,922 MILES ON IT STILL UNDER 3 YRS WARRANTY & THEY DENIED MY CLAIM. I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THIS BUT THE LETTER HAD WRONG INFORMATION IN IT. THEY HAD THE WRONG TOYOTA DEALER I USED ON THE RECALLS THE WRONG DATE I TOOK MY CAR FOR THE RECALL. THE DEALER ISN'T EVEN IN MY AREA. THIS WAS A FORM LETTER THAT SOMEONE USED FOR SOMEONE ELSE & FAILED TO CHANGE THE FIELDS IN THE LETTER. I NEED ANYONE'S HELP WHETHER IT BE CLASS ACTION OR A LAWYER TO DO CONTINGENCY WORK. PLEASE POST IF ANYONE HAS HAD THIS ACCELERATION PROBLEM. LETS NOT LET TOY. GET BY. *TR
