THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES AND THE POSITION OF THE BRAKE SWITCH IN RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PEDAL INTERFERED IN BRAKING WHENEVER HE STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. CONTACT STATED HE ALMOST HAD TWO ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKES. CONTACT CALL THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURE BECAUSE HE JUST PURCHASE THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 4, 2009 THEY INFORM HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER SO THEY CAN CHECK IF THERE WAS ANY ALTERING OF THE BRAKES OR ARE ALL ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. CONTACT STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM OF THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 650....MW
I WAS INVOLVED IN A MULTI-CAR COLLISION. MY DRIVERS AIR BAG DID NOT INFLATE ALTHOUGH THOSE IN THE OTHER CARS DID. THIS RESULTED IN MORE SERIOUS INJURY TO ME THAN SHOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
AS I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AS THERE WAS ONGOING TRAFFIC COMING ON THE ROAD I WAS ENTERING. THE CAR ACCELERATED AND CONTINUED TO RACE AS I PUT INCREASING PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR DID MOVE FORWARD SLIGHTLY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE ON A CAR THAT HAD LESS THAN 900 MILES. I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR, A TOYOTA 2009 RAV 4. IT WAS PICKED UP BY A TOYOTA DEALER JUST RECENTLY AND IS BEING TESTED. BASED ON THEIR COMMENT THAT IN THE PAST THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MORE AND MORE REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM. I CURRENTLY HAVE 3 OTHER CARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. IN FACT IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING THIS HAVE NEVER OCCURRED BEFORE. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A CAR FAILURE NOT A DRIVER PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT WAS AT A FULL STOP WITH HER FOOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO IDLE AT EXTREME RPMS AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE THREE TIMES AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. WE PURCHASED A NEW RAV4, IN MAY 2009. YESTERDAY WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLOSIVELY BLEW OUT THE SIDEWALL, THE CAR HAS 2400 MILES ON IT. THE PERSON WHO WITNESSED THE FAILURE SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST. I ALSO FOUND THIS IN OUR TOYOTA VEHICLE OWNER SERVICE RECORDS: BY DEALER 05/05/09TOYOTA OF MCDONOUGH 5 0092548REPAIR FLAT TIREVIEW DETAILS BASICALLY THIS CAR HAS HAD TWO TIRE FAILURES IN LESS THAN 3000 MILES. A RELATIVE OF OURS, THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDED THE RAV 4 TO US, HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH HIS NEW 2009 RAV4 WITH YOKOHAMA TIRES, BUT SINCE HE WAS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED TO BADLY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. *TR
ON MY '09 TWO WHEEL DRIVE RAV4 I HAVE A RECURRING CYCLE OCCURRING APPROXIMATE EVERY 700 TO 1000 MILES. I HAVE TOO MUCH BRAKING. THE ABS SYSTEM FEELS AS IF IT GRADUALLY IS APPLIED TO A CERTAIN POINT. AT THAT POINT I HAVE THE WHEELS PULLED AND THE ABS INSPECTED ALONG WITH THE MANUAL EMERGENCY BRAKE. USUALLY, NOTHING IS FOUND. HOWEVER, WHEN THE WHEELS ARE REMOUNTED AND THE VEHICLE IS BACK ON THE GROUND, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. THE VEHICLE IS IN ALIGNMENT. WHILE THE PROBLEM EXISTS, ON COMING TRAFFIC PULLS AWAY FROM ME TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THEIR LANE. AND TRAFFIC GOING THE SAME DIRECTION AS I AM PULLS TO THE LEFT OF THEIR LANE. MY FAMILY HAS FOLLOWED ME AND TOLD ME THE VEHICLE TRACKS TO THE LEFT IN THE FRONT OR "DOGLEGS" DOWN THE ROAD. IT TAKES MORE GAS PEDAL TO MAINTAIN THE SAME SPEED WHEN THE CYCLE OCCURS. WHEN YOU LIFT YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL (WHICH I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH) THE VEHICLE SLOWS QUICKLY. THERE IS A RUBBING IN THE WHEELS WHILE THE CYCLE IS OCCURRING. THE DELIVERING TOYOTA DEALER WILL NOT CHECK OUT THE VEHICLE; THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATING THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE YET THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WARRANTY REPAIRS HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE GIVEN UP AS THE PROBLEM IS SIMPLY OVER THEIR HEADS. IF OTHER DRIVERS CONTINUE TO SEE THE VEHICLE IS NOT TRACKING STRAIGHT WHY CAN REPAIRS BE MADE BY TOYOTA? THE VEHICLE HAS APPX 12,6010 AND THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 4661 MILES. I NOW TAKE THE VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENT TIRE & BRAKE CENTER DURING EACH CYCLE AND PAY MYSELF SINCE THE DEALER IS NO LONGER INTERESTED IN THE REPAIRS AND HAS INDICATED NEITHER IS THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LUNGED OR RAPIDLY ACCELERATED FROM A COMPLETE STOP. IN ONE INSTANCE, HE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MPH, HE HIT A CEMENT DIVIDER IN A PARKING LOT WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LOWER GRILL. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE RANDOMLY OCCURRED ABOUT 20% OF THE TIME WHILE DRIVING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON 02/17/2010, THE DEALER INSTALLED A METAL PLATE BEHIND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THREE TIMES. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE WHO INSTRUCTED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,100. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 400.
SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2009 TOYOTA RAV4 (6CYL) IN JULY 2009, I HAVE EXPERIENCED CONSISTENT JACKRABBIT STARTS. THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT IT, I DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE SALESMAN WHO HANDLED MY TRANSACTION. HE SEEMED UNCONCERNED AND TOLD ME TO DISCUSS IT WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE 5000 MILES CHECK. VIRTUALLY EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO SMOOTHLY ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, I AM THROWN BACK INTO MY SEAT AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES RAPIDLY. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS I NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ON FEB 1, 2010, I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF MICHAEL'S TOYOTA IN BELLEVUE, WA, WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CHECKED - MINE WAS A DENSO AND DID NOT REQUIRE MODIFICATION. THEY REPORTED "NO DEFECT," AND THAT MY VEHICLE DRIVES LIKE EVERY OTHER RAV4. IF THAT IS THE CASE, THERE IS NO DOUBT A RISK THAT THIS JACKRABBIT TENDENCY WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS. I AM CONVINCED THAT THE COMBINATION OF TOYOTA'S ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR PEDALS AND THE HARDWARE/SOFTWARE TOYOTA USES TO CONTROL THE ENGINES ARE FAULTY. I HAVE LISTED THE DATE OF INCIDENT AS THE DAY I BOUGHT THE RAV4, BUT THE JACKRABBIT ACCELERATIONS HAPPEN EVERY DAY! *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2009 RAV4 ON JUNE 19, 2009. WITH ONLY A FEW HUNDRED MILES (LESS THAN 1000) ON THE VEHICLE, I TRAVELED TO ANNAPOLIS, MD ON JULY 20, 2009. AFTER DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY FOR MOST OF THE AROUND 200 MILES, I EXITED AND UPN STOPPING FOR TRAFFIC, I EXPERIENCED THE ACCELERATOR STICKING (DID NOT COME BACK UP UPON DECELERATION). I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE A COLLISION, USING CONSIDERABLE FORCE ON THE BRAKES. THE ACCELERATOR DID RETURN TO A NORMAL POSITION AFTER 2-3 SECONDS. I NEVER DID EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM AFTERWARDS AND I NOW HAVE AROUND 5400 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I DID DISCUSS THE PROBLEM WITH THE DEALER MONTHS AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND THEY DID INSTALL THE RECALL DEVICE ON THE ACCELERATOR. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. I AM REPORTING THIS SINCE MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR SEEMS TO BE DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS. MY ACCELERATOR STUCK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEARLY NEW AND HAD VERY LITTLE WEAR. *TR
I BOUGHT A TOYOTA RAV-4 SPORT IN JANUARY 2009. IT IS A V-6 WITH THE RUN FLAT TIRES. IN JULY, I PURCHASED A NEW, VERY EXPENSIVE COMPUTERIZED SEWING MACHINE--ONE THAT I HAD HOPED TO BE ABLE TO BUY FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. IT WAS JUST OVER $1400.00. I PLACED IT IN THE BACK OF MY RAV AND DROVE HOME. I SWUNG OPEN THE TAILGATE, NOT THINKING I HAD TO PEAK INSIDE FIRST. THE SEWING MACHINE FELL RIGHT OUT OF THE CAR UNTO THE CEMENT GARAGE FLOOR. I WAS DEVASTATED. THEN I THOUGHT HOW LUCKY I WAS THAT MY FOOT OR MY SMALL DOG WAS NOT INJURED. A TODDLER OR AN INFANT IN AN INFANT SEAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I REMAIN CONCERNED ABOUT THE COMPUTER IN MY SEWING MACHINE. MY HUSBAND, KNOWING HOW UPSET I WAS, AND SEEING THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, CUT A 2X4 AND WEDGED IT IN ALONG THE EDGE, THUS PREVENTING MY GROCERIES AND EVERYTHING ELSE FROM FALLING RIGHT OUT OF THE CAR AS I OPENED THE DOOR. THE OTHER CONCERN I HAVE ABOUT THIS CAR IS THAT THERE ARE NO RUN-FLAT SNOW TIRES AVAILABLE AND WE LIVE IN AN AREA THAT IS HILLY, WITH A LOT OF SNOW. THE SO-CALLED, "ALL-WEATHER," DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TREAD FOR OUR TERRAIN. *TR
AN EMERGENCY STOP FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65 MPH) ON HOT (85+F) DRY PAVEMENT RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN EXPECTED BRAKING CAPACITY. BEST GUESS IS THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM THROTTLED BACK AVAILABLE BRAKING CAPACITY. BRAKE PEDAL CAN BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AT WILL BUT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM TAKES OVER BRAKING. THE BRAKES CANNOT BE IMMEDIATELY RELEASED AND ADDITIONAL PRESSURE (BRAKING) CANNOT BE APPLIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH , THERE WAS UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION. AFTER BRAKE APPLICATION HE WAS ABLE TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR INCREASES IDLE TO 1500 -2000 AND THE BRAKES SOMETIMES BECOME "SQUISHY" AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL FEEL LIKE THERE IS NO PRESSURE. THE CAR WILL STOP, BUT THE IDLE WILL CONTINUE TO REV UP. I HAVE TO ENSURE I DO NOT RELEASE THE BRAKE UNTIL THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IS A VERY SAFE DISTANCE AWAY. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS CONTINUOUSLY OCCURRED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW, IT NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 17000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE, PER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
WE NOTICED THAT WE STARTED OUR 2009 RAV4 IN THE MORNING AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT, THERE WAS A RATTLING TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THIS NOISE ONLY OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT IT FROM (TOYOTA) AND AFTER THEY CHECKED IT, DETERMINED IT WAS A BAD CAM SHAFT. I ASKED IF THIS WAS NORMAL ON A 2009 RAV4 AND IF IT WAS A RECALL. THE LADY STATED "IT IS A TYPE OF RECALL, BUT NOT ALL CARS ARE AFFECTED, SO THEY DID NOT SEND OUT NOTICE TO ALL OWNERS." REALLY? ISN'T THAT A "BACK DOOR RECALL"? THEY ARE ORDERING THE PARTS AND WILL REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE SMOKE MOSTLY APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THERE WERE VERY STRONG FLAMES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE HEAT FROM THE FIRE MELTED THE GARAGE DOOR. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED AND THE FIRE MARSHALL STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DUE TO A MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND IS STILL AT THE PARKING GARAGE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 3,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STARTED THE KEY-LESS IGNITION WITH THE BRAKE ENGAGED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ACCIDENTALLY APPLIED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LOCATION WAS DESIGNED EXTREMELY CLOSE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH RESULTED TO UNINTENDED APPLICATION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. VEHICLE FAILS TO START OCCASIONALLY, LIGHTS TURN ON WITH NORMAL BRIGHTNESS INDICATING IT IS PROBABLY NOT A BATTERY ISSUE,BUT NO CRANKING . DEALER CHECKED THE CAR, BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DATE BELOW IS THE APPROX LAST INCIDENT DATE. *TR
INTERMITTENT SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN A 2009 TOYOTA RAV4 WITHOUT FURTHER DEPRESSION OF THE GAS PEDAL WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD. THE GAS PEDAL IS NOT JAMMED OR SLOW TO RAISE NOR DOES IT STICK. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE MARCH 2009 WITH NO COMMON DENOMINATOR SUCH AS SPEED, ROAD CONDITIONS, ETC. THIS HAS EVEN HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND WITHOUT THE GAS PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED AT ALL, THE VEHICLE WILL RACE SUDDENLY AND JUST AS QUICKLY GO BACK TO IDLE. THE DATE OF THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THE MILEAGE LISTED BELOW ARE APPROXIMATIONS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH TURNING A CORNER AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN A JERKING MOTION. A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CONTINUED ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AFTER PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED PERIODICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE ACCELERATION FAILURE WAS UPDATED IN THE DATABASE. THE VEHICLE HAD PRIOR RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED AND THE REMEDY REPAIR FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATES THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY THAT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED ACCELERATION FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,285. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A POLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I ASKED FOR PAPERWORK STATING THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT DO ANY. I THEN TOOK IT BACK WITH 3200 MILES ON IT AND THE SAME ANSWER TO RUST AND NO PAPERWORK AGAIN BECAUSE THEY GROUNDED IT OFF. IT NOW HAS 8000 MILES ON IT AND THE ROTORS ARE GRINDING SO BAD THAT METAL SHAVINGS ARE COMING OUT AND I AM AFRAID TO LET ME WIFE DRIVE IT. I CALLED PRESTON MOTORS THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD PUT ME ON THE WAITING LIST BECAUSE THEY HAVE SO MANY RECALLS THEY ARE HANDLING NOW.
