CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER MENTIONED, "EVIDENCE OF RODENT/SMALL ANIMAL HAS CHEWED WIRING HARNESS AT CONNECTOR COMPLETELY THROUGH." THE CAR WILL NEED WIRING HARNESS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY ON TWELVE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FIVE TIMES BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE LATEST OCCURRENCE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE JUMPING THE CURB AND HITTING A TREE. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED OR COMING TO A STOP; THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000.
THE 2010 RAV4 ROLLS BACKWARDS WHILE IN DRIVE. I FIRST NOTICED THIS WHILE STOPPED A RED LIGHT IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR PROCEEDED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL I APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE. I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS WHILE STOPPED TO REMOVE MY MAIL FROM MY MAIL BOX AND THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO THE ROADWAY WHILE IN DRIVE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY THE CAR WHILE IN DRIVE ROLLS BACKWARDS, FREELY, WITH NO SIGN OF STOPPING UNTIL I APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNEXPECTED WHEN IT HAPPENS. MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR. FRANKLY, I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. THANKFULLY, NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I'M NOT SURE IF THE FAILED COMPONENT IS THE DRIVE TRAIN, THE TRANSMISSION OR THE HYDRAULICS. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BY SOMEONE BEFORE ANYONE IS KILLED OR INJURED.
ON THE DAY INDICATED BELOW WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 TO A STORE, I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE TO A LEFT TURN BUT IT FAILED TO DROP THE SPEED. THEN I REALIZED IT PROBABLY HAS THE PROBLEM PEOPLE CURRENTLY COMPLAIN. SO, I SWITCHED THE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL POSITION AND I HEARD THE ENGINE SURGE AT A VERY HIGH SPEED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN SLOWED DOWN. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND CHECKED THE GAS PEDAL WHICH WAS NOT STICKY. SINCE THEN, I CONTINUED TO USE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT SAME ISSUE. I CHECKED WITH MY CAR DEALER A MONTH AGO ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL LIST BY THE VIN NUMBER. *TR
AUTO ACCIDENT DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. THE BANJO BOLT WAS LOOSE ON THE RIGHT BRAKE CALIPER ON 2010 TOYOTA RAV 4 WITH 800 MILES. THE CAR COULD NOT STOP WHEN TRYING TO STOP ON FRONT OF STOP SIGN AS A RESULT THE CAR CROSSED THE STREET AND HIT THE CURB AND THE LIGHT POLE ACROSS THE STREET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE FOR A TRAFFIC STOP. THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AND PROCEEDED THROUGH THE TRAFFIC STOP WHERE SHE CRASHED INTO THE CURB AND A LIGHT POLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL COLLISION CENTER WHERE THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY LOOSE BANJO BOLT ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE CALIBER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 800.
2010 TOYOTA RAV4. CONSUMER EXPRESSES DISCONTENT REGARDING THE TOYOTA SALES CENTER IN WHICH VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FOR NOT DISCLOSING WHAT SHE ASSERTS AS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE DEALERSHIP WAS FULLY AWARE OF THE SITUATION AS THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED THREE WEEKS AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *JB
PROBLEM: ACCELERATOR STUCK IN 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 ON 3/31/10, WHILE AT LOW SPEED AND SLOWING FOR A STOP LIGHT, MY ACCELERATOR STUCK, IMPAIRING MY ABILITY TO STOP. I PRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, THEN ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE. WHILE CONTINUING TO PRESS THE BRAKE, I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THEN INTO PARK. THE CAR STOPPED. I AM SURPRISED I DID NOT REAR END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I DROVE CAREFULLY TO THE ROCHESTER TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, JUST MINUTES AWAY. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. THIS VEHICLE IS ONE INVOLVED IN THE CURRENT TOYOTA RECALL. I HAD THE ACCELERATOR REPAIR MADE ON MARCH 5, 2010. I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY ACCELERATOR PROBLEM BEFORE TODAY. I EXPLAINED TO THE MANAGER MY CONCERN THAT THE TRUE PROBLEM WITH UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED, THUS MY PROBLEM OCCURRED DESPITE THE PRIOR REPLACEMENT OF MY PEDAL. I PHONE THE TOYOTA 800 NUMBER AN MADE A REPORT. NEITHER THE TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER NOR THE PERSON AT THE 800 NUMBER COULD ASSURE ME THAT THESE INCIDENTS ARE BEING DOCUMENTED OR EVALUATED INDIVIDUALLY OR AS A GROUP. I FIND THIS VERY UNSETTLING, AND I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IN AND AROUND TOYOTA VEHICLES.
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH EXITING A RAMP TO MAKE A TURN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED WITH NO POWER RESPONSE. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. IMMEDIATELY, BOTH FEET WERE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL FORCEFULLY. THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM AND STATED POSSIBLY THE FLOOR MAT ROLLED UP AGAINST THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THERE WAS A PRIOR RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE REPAIR DATE WAS FEBRUARY 09, 2010; ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,160. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,300.
TO WHOM CONCERN HI, MY NAME IS [XXX]. I HAVE A DISCONCERTING AND DISAPPOINTING STORY TO TELL ABOUT BUYING A NEW TOYOTA. MY FRIEND PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 5-DOOR 4X2 SUV LTD ON 3/20/2010 AND ON 3/27/2010 THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE CAR HESITATED TO ADVANCE AND AFTER 2 OR 3 MORE TRIES DID NOT RESPONDED AT ALL. SO MY FRIEND CALLED THE DEALER TO HAVE THE DEALER PICK UP THE CAR. SHE WAS INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER NEW CAR. THE CAR WAS PICKED UP THE SAME DAY 3/27/2010. ON MARCH 29, SHE CALLED THE DEALER TO FIND OUT ABOUT HER NEW CAR?S PROBLEM, AND THE SALESMAN ([XXX] ) TOLD HER THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, BUT [XXX] SAID, ?THE CAR NEEDS A NEW ENGINE?. SHE LOVES THE RAV4 AND WAS CONVINCED TO ASK FOR ANOTHER RAV4, SAME MODEL, SAME PRICE; JUST ANOTHER RAV4?? SOUNDS FAIR, SOUNDS EASY, FOR HER. NOW, MY FRIEND HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO ASK FOR NO LESS THAN HER MONEY BACK. HER EXPERIENCED HAS OPENED MY EYES TO THE WAY THAT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. MORE PEOPLE WILL KNOW ABOUT THIS STORY AND I KNOW THAT IS ONLY ONE OF MANY STORIES YOU HEAR, BUT I HOPE YOU WILL LEARN A LESSON FROM THIS STORY. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION O F TOYOTA RAV4 WITH "FIXED" ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITHIN 50 MILES OF DRIVING: 0N COMING TO TRAFFIC STOP ENGINE REVVED UP TO AN AUDIBLE HIGH SPEED. TO PREVENT A COLLISION I APPLIED INTENSIVE PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL WHILE SETTING HAND BRAKE. CAR STLILL SEEMED TO BE IN FORWARD ROLL MODE, SO I PUSHED GEAR SHIFT FROM DRIVE THRU NEUTRAL,REVERSE AND INTO PARK. ENGINE SPEED RETURNED TO NORMAL IDLE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I THEN DROVE 40 SOME MILES TO RETURN HOME. ON 3/27 I TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER TO REPORT THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODIFICATION WAS A FAILURE. I TOOK DELIVERY OF THIS NEW CAR ON 7/31/09. WITHIN ABOUT 300 DRIVING MILES OF ACCUMULATED MILEAGE, THE 1ST UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRED REQUIRED ADDED PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL & USE OF HAND(EMERGENCY) BRAKE TO STOP CAR & END ABNORMAL ENGINE SPEED. GEAR SHIFT REMAINED IN DRIVE. I HAD 3 TO 4 SUCH INCIDENTS WITHIN APPROX. 2400 MILES COMPRISING 40-50 TRIPS, NONE LONGER THAN 100 MILES. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS HIGHWAY TYPE, WHICH DOES REQUIRE INTERMITTENT BUT INFREQUENT TRAFFIC STOPS. ABOUT 200 MILES OCCURRED IN CITY-TYPE CONDITIONS (FREQUENT TRAFFIC STOPS) WHICH WERE SPREAD OVER ABOUT 12 OF THE AFORESAID TRIPS. ALL THE UA SITUATIONS OCCURRED UNDER THE CITY-TYPE CONDITIONS. I MADE SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO REPORT THE INCIDENTS AND TO OBTAIN HELP. AFTER THE 1ST ONE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE CAR & FOUND NOTHING WITH THE CAR'S SAFE OPERABILITY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK FOR SERVICE AFTER THE INCIDENT WHICH WAS POST SAFETY RECALL PEDAL MODIFICATION. THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF A "FIX" FAILURE. TOYOTA APPEARS TO CLING TO THE STICKY FLOOR MAT OR SIMULTANEOUS PRESSURE TO ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS.
WE WERE DRIVING A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 LIMITED WITH APPROXIMATELY 68 MILES AND WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WE WERE STOPPED ON AN INCLINE WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED AND BEFORE THE GAS PEDAL COULD BE PRESSED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AS IF IN NEUTRAL ALMOST HITTING A VEHICLE APPROACHING FROM THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DUPLICATED MORE THAN ONCE ON AN INCLINE. THE DEALER(SERVICE SUPERVISOR) STATED THAT THIS IS A NORMAL OPERATION WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND FURTHER STATED THAT THE LEFT FOOT SHOULD BE KEPT ON THE BRAKE OR THE HAND BRAKE APPLIED WHILE STOPPED ON AN INCLINE. I FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY TWO DAYS OLD, THEY TOOK BACK THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA OFFERS A HILL ASSIST ITEM ON CERTAIN RAV4'S WITH A V6 AND 4CYL RAV4'S WITH A THIRD ROW SEAT ONLY. IN THE VEHICLE HAND BOOK THERE ARE NO CAUTIONS OR WARNINGS ABOUT THE VEHICLE ROLLING BACKWARDS WHILE STOPPED ON AN INCLINE AND IN DRIVE OR ANY OTHER WARNINGS OR CAUTIONS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION THAT I COULD FIND. *TR
I WAS LEAVING MY HOME IN MY 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND IT INSTANTLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AT A VERY HIGH SPEED. I IMMEDIATELY PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD. HOWEVER NOTHING OCCURRED THE CAR CONTINUED TO REVERSE RAPIDLY. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BUT IT WAS A SMALL SPACE AND BY THEN I WAS NEAR THE STONE FIXTURE WHICH THE VEHICLE HIT. THE FIXTURE WHICH WAS SOLID STONE WAS IN THE GROUND, IT WAS UPROOTED BY THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER FOR AN OBJECT LIKE THIS TO BE UPROOTED A GREAT DEAL OF SPEED WOULD NEED TO BE INVOLVED. MY DRIVEWAY IS ON AN INCLINE AND I NEVER PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE REVERSING AS THE VEHICLE WILL REVERSE ON ITS OWN DUE TO THE INCLINATION. *TR
ON 1/28/10 AS I SLOWED FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE RAV4 STARTED TO HIGHLY REV UP.( MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR) YET IT SOUNDED AS IF IT WAS GOING TO SPEED UP FOR NO REASON. IT DIDN'T ACTUALLY ACCELERATED. I WAS ABLE TO THROW THE GEAR INTO PARK AND IT STOPPED. THAT SAME DAY I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT AS PER THE RECALL. ON 3/11/10 I WAS TALKING WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. I WAS AT A FULL STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT STILL IN DRIVE. THE SAME HIGH REVVING AGAIN HAPPENED. I AGAIN THREW THE GEAR INTO PARK AND THE REVVING STOPPED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND THEY HAD A TOYOTA FIELD TECH INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PEDAL. I HAVE WITNESSES TO BOTH EVENTS. THERE IS SOME PROBLEM IF IT ISN'T THE PEDAL, IT IS SOMETHING ELSE. VEHICLES DON'T REV BY THEMSELVES. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE NOTIFIED TOYOTA. PLEASE ADVISE AND HELP ME I LIKE THE VEHICLE OTHERWISE. *TR

THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE REPAIR FOR RECALL 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,700. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH; PROCEEDING TO A STOP SIGN. WHILE BRAKING THERE WAS A SURGE OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REVV. THE VEHICLE RESUMED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE TOWED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL WAS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT . THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 345.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HE WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN WHEN THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AS IF HE WAS APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL. HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THAT DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. THE DRIVER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN AGAIN. THE DRIVER THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON AGAIN AND IT BEGAN TO DRIVE NORMAL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 1,786.
TOYOTA/RAV4 YEAR 2010 ON FEB22 2010 ACCELERATION . ON FEB 24TH IN TO TOYOTA FOR THE RECALL. *TR
JUST ANOTHER UNSATISFIED, UNHAPPY, AND SCARED FOR MY LIFE TOYOTA OWNER! THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT TAKES TOO MUCH EFFORT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE ACCELERATOR STICKS SOMETIMES. BRAKING IS BECOMING A MAJOR ISSUE FOR ME-I'VE NEVER HAD TO APPLY SO MUCH PRESSURE BEFORE. I'M USED TO LETTING MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, LETTING THE CAR SLOW DOWN ITSELF, THEN GENTLY APPLYING THE BRAKES AS NEEDED (MOSTLY AT STOPLIGHTS SO I DON'T HAVE TO ACCELERATE AS MUCH WHEN IT TURNS GREEN). THE CAR REALLY DOESN'T SLOW DOWN LIKE IT SHOULD, REQUIRING ME TO APPLY UNNECESSARY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN. DEALER REPLACED THE PEDAL OR REPAIRED IT FOR THE RECALL BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 . SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. SHE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND SHE EXPERIENCED THE ACCELERATION ONCE AGAIN AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE. THIS HAD OCCURRED 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES, INCLUDING AFTER THE REPAIR HAD BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT TO HAVE A NEW PEDAL INSTALLED. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A VEHICLE I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. HERE ARE THE DETAILS: I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ABOUT A MONTH AGO FROM IRWIN TOYOTA IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WITH VIN# [XXX] . I HAD CONTACTED THE DEALER BEFORE THE CAR WAS DELIVERED TO SEE WHAT THE RECALL MEANT FOR ME. THEY SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MADE IN JAPAN AND WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. ON FEBRUARY 17TH I PUT THE RAV4 INTO REVERSE TO BACK DOWN MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS CUTTING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO MAKE A REVERSE K-TURN WHEN IT BEGAN ACCELERATING VIGOROUSLY IN REVERSE. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS BECAUSE IT WAS IDLING IN REVERSE DOWN A 7% GRADE. THE ENGINE RACED WAY UP AND IT TOOK ALL MY LEG POWER TO BRING IT TO A STOP. I DID STOP THE CAR JUST BEFORE HITTING A TREE ON THE SIDE OF MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD MY WIFE AND MY INFANT SON IN THE CAR AND THEY WERE BOTH TERRIFIED. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD BE HAPPY TO LOOK AT IT, BUT THAT IT WAS PROBABLY 'HIGH IDLE'. I HAVE DEGREE IN PHYSICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND I OWN A COMPANY THAT BUILDS ACCELERATION SENSORS FOR VEHICLES. THIS CAR HAS A SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM WITH ONE OF ITS SENSORS OR WITH ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO MISINTERPRET THE SENSOR DATA. THERE IS NO WAY A DEALER IS GOING TO FIND THIS, LET ALONE FIX IT. WHAT CAN I DO AT THIS POINT? *TR
PURCHASED NEW TOYOTA RAV4 2010 4-CYLINDER MODEL IN FEBRUARY. WHEN AT A STOP ON MILD INCLINE (DRIVEWAY MADE OF WOODCHIPS...GOOD TRACTION), THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. DEALERSHIP INSISTED THIS IS NORMAL FOR THESE VEHICLES AND DEMONSTRATED THIS ANOMALY WITH ANOTHER RAV4 TO PROVE IT. THE ENGINE DOESN'T PRODUCE ENOUGH TORQUE FOR THE TRANSMISSION DURING IDLE TO ENGAGE THE CONVERTER APPARENTLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS HOT. NO ONE TOLD ME OF THIS PROBLEM DURING SALES. A 'HILL-ASSIST" OPTION IS AVAILABLE THAT I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT. THIS MERELY PROLONGS THE BRAKING WHEN SWITCHING FROM BRAKE TO ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN THE PRESSURE CHANGES. SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ALL OF THIS STUFF WHEN PURCHASING, THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I ALMOST RAMMED INTO THE TRUCK BEHIND ME. THEN WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD IN RESPONSE TO THE RPM CHANGE. THIS IS A HAZARD TO THE UNWITTING BUYER AND NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY DISCUSSED WITH ALL BUYERS. THE DEALERSHIP BLOWS OFF THIS INCIDENT AS 'NORMAL' FOR THIS CAR. WHAT THEY DON'T SAY IS THAT IT IS BAD ENGINEERING...THAT THE CAR COMPUTER SHOULD RAISE RPMS UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION IS WORKING PROPERLY ON INCLINE. THE SOFTWARE CANNOT BE CHANGED SO THE CAR IS CONSIDERED 'NORMAL'. I WAS DISGUSTED WITH THE EXPLANATIONS, EVEN FROM A MECHANIC THERE I RESPECT, HE SAID THIS IS 'HOW THEY ARE'. *TR

THREE, NEVER RECEIVING A POSTCARD, I FINALLY CALLED A DEALER AND ARRANGED FOR MY CAR TO BE FIXED. I WAS EXPERIENCING RANDOM ACCELERATION WHEN THE CAR WAS HOT AND COLD. FOUR, AFTER THE FIX THE CAR CONTINUES TO DO THIS. IT WILL ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, DECELERATE AND THEN RUN SMOOTHLY AGAIN. IT DOES THIS RANDOMLY. IT IS QUITE NERVE RACKING WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4 JANUARY 2010. LIVING IN MAINE, WINTER DRIVING IS UNAVOIDABLE. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO CLEAR THE WINDOW FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SNOW GETS TRAPPED BY THE MOUNTED SPARE TIRE AND STOPS THE BLADE. IMMEDIATELY DISCOVERED THAT WHEN STARTING OFF FROM A STOP(BRAKE ON) AND GOING TO THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE IS IN A FREEWHEEL MOOD. EVEN ON JUST A MODEST INCLINE DIVE WAYS, EXITS ONTO STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, OR ANYWHERE EXCEPT DEAD LEVEL ,THIS VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARD WITH NO DRAG WHATSOEVER, AT FIRST QUITE ALARMING AND AFTER A COUPLE MORE INCIDENTS I DEEM IT VERY DANGEROUS AND REALLY NOT NORMAL. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND FROM THE SALESMAN SERVICEMANAGER COSTUMER RELATIONS PERSON AND G.M. ALL AGREED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE "AN ENGINEERING DEFECT " BUT ALL THE NEW TOYOTAS ARE LIKE THAT" I WAS TOLD THAT HAD I PURCHASED A MORE EXPENSIVE MODEL THAT IT WOULD HAVE A "HILL HOLDING FEATURE" AND ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM .HOWEVER MY 25000 RAV4 DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE AVAILABLE . TL* WHILE TEST DRIVING A 2010 TOYOTA RAV 4, IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE ENGINE BEGAN REVVING AT A RAPID PACE. HE THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, IN WHICH HE NOTIFIED THE SALES MANAGER OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. I HAVE A VIBRATION WHEN GOING BETWEEN 62-70MPH. HAVE NO IDEA FROM WHAT HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, THEY BALANCED THE TIRES, WE HAD A PRIVATE TIRE DEALER CHECK THE BALANCE, STILL THERE. THE OWNER OF OUR DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID SHE TEST DROVE TWO OTHER ONES, SAME MODEL AS OURS AND THEY DO IT TOO. IN FACT SHE SAID ONE VIBRATES WORSE THAN OURS. WE ARE BEING TOLD THIS IS NORMAL, BUT WE KNOW, THAT NO VIBRATION IS NORMAL. *TW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH HE HEARD A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WAS REPAIRED AT AN EXPENSE OF $432.41. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48985. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49000.
2010 RAV4 LIMITED DELIVERED 10/26/09. CONSTANT TRANSMISSION WHINE AT SPEEDS FROM 10 MPH TO 45MPH. THIS WHINE APPEARED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER WHO SAID THIS HAPPENS IN ALL RAV4'S. WROTE LETTER TO PRESIDENT OF TOYOTA USA ON 12/17/09 AND HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. CALLED HIM ALSO, AND NO RESPONSE YET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. WHENEVER THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE RESULTED IN A CRASH. WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IT CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A HOUSE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,900. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,500.

THE CONTACT FELT HER SAFETY WAS AT RISK AND WANTED TO SELL HER VEHICLE BUT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE RAPID DECREASE IN VALUE. SHE FELT SHE WAS SOLD A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND WAS NOT WARNED THAT A POTENTIAL DEFECT EXISTED IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED SEVERAL TIMES BUT HAS YET TO RESPOND. THERE WERE NO FAILURES EXISTING IN THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FORTHE RECALL FOR THE PEDAL REPAIR BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SATISFIED WITH THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE THE ADVANCE BRAKE OVER-RIDE SYSTEM REPAIR BUT THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO PERFORM THAT RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80.
