WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WHERE APPLYING THEMSELVES, VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AND VIBRATING AND SLOWING DOWN AND THE VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. IT SCARED ME AND I ALMOST HAD A PANIC ATTACK. I PULLED OFF TAYLOR ROAD(CITY STREET) AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED TO SEE IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I RESTARTED TO CAR AND THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON AND I TOOK THE CAR HOME. MY WIFE IS NOW SCARED TO DRIVE IT.
ONE OWNER VEHICLE WHEN I PURCHASED JANUARY 2015. WAS SERVICED AT LOCAL TOYOTA AND NEVER SAID ANY ISSUES WITH FRAME BEFORE THE DEADLINE TO HAVE FRAME REPLACED. AFTER I PURCHASED MY MACHANIC NOTICED THE RUSTY FRAME AND TOYOTA SAID AFTER THE DEADLINE TO GET FIXED BUT NO ONE AT TOYOTA SAID IT WAS THAT BAD. IT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. IT NOW WON'T PASS INSPECTION B/C THE FRAME IS FALLING APART. THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER AND SHOULD NOT HAVE PIECES OF THE FRAME CRUMBLING APART. THE REAREND IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE KNOWN WITH A LOT OF THESE VEHICLES!!
DRIVER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE. REPLACED BALL JOINT SEPTEMBER 25 2017 WITH O'REILLY AUTO PARTS "MASTER PRO" PART NUMBER K90262. PART FAILED AFTER EXITING HIGHWAY AT THE TOP OF OFF RAMP. SPEED AT FAILURE APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. SPEED 10 SECONDS EARLIER APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH.
CAME RUSTED APART AND IN SAFE TO DRIVE THE FRAME WAS COATED IN 2013 AT FANNON TOYOTA IN ASHLAND KENTUCKY THIS DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED BY THE FBI FOR CHEATING PEOPLE ON PAYING FOR SOLD CARS
I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND LEFT IT RUNNING EXITED THE CAR OPEN THE BACK DOOR AND WALKED BEHIND THE CAR AND THEN THE CAR BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS UNTIL IT RAN INTO A WALL AFTER I HAD ALREADY REMOVED ITEMS FROM THE BACK DOOR AND WALKED BEHIND THE CAR
WHILE DRIVING GOING ANY SPEED LOW OR HIGH A VSC TRAC OFF LIGHT APPEARS ON THE GAGE CLUSTER AND STARTS A HIGH PITCHED NOISE AND ABS LOCKS UP ON MY PASSENGER SIDE PULLING ME TO THE RIGHT ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR OR ANY PEDESTRIANS THAT MAY BE THERE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VSC (ANTI-SKID) SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES ENGAGED AUTOMATICALLY AND THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO CUSTOMER CARE PROGRAMS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 188,000.
WHEN DRIVING AT A SPEED ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 60 MPH, THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT AND VSC TRAC CAN GO OFF; ALARM SOUNDS...VEHICLE SHAKE AND GRINDING COMING FROM BRAKES. BRAKES AND DO NOT WORK WELL WHEN THIS OCCURS. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. IT IS NOW OCCURRING VERY FREQUENTLY. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SHUT THE CAR OFF.... AND RESTART THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND BEGAN TO INDEPENDENTLY PULL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VSC WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JERRY'S TOYOTA (8001 BELAIR RD, BALTIMORE, MD 21236, (410) 661-5700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 204,038.
FRAME BADLY RUSTING OUT. THE TOYOTA DEALER SPRAYED IT OUT A FEW YEARS AGO BUT NOW RUSTED REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LEAKING. THE WHOLE REAR AXLE A SINGLE WELDED PIECE. THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND USED IN CONNECTICUT (CT), GARAGED AND PRESENTLY HAS 98K MILES ON IT.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE BALL JOINTS HAVE FAILED ON BOTH SIDES, WITH THE WHEELS FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING. AT SPEED, MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED -TWICE! THE WHEELS HAVE FALLEN OFF TWICE. I HAVE KEPT THIS VEHICLE IN EXCELLENT REPAIR. I HAVE OWNED 4 TOYOTAS AND CURRENTLY OWN THREE. BALL JOINTS SHOULD NOT FALL APART UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. TOYOTA HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BACK TO 2004. HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED TO STAND BY ME ON THIS, EVEN AFTER I PAID OVER $2200 FOR THE LAST REPAIR. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ALL SEQUOIAS PRIOR TO 2004. I CAN PROBABLY GET A PHOTO OF THE WHEEL OFF OF THE CAR WHERE IT SKIDDED TO A STOP.
WHILE DRIVING OUR 01 SEQUOIA SR5 WITH ONLY 85,000 MILES ON SIDE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 5MPH TO 70 MPH, THE SUV'S BRAKING SYSTEM SUDDENLY ENGAGES FOR NO REASON WHILE THE VEH. IS IN MOTION. THE VSC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON ALONG WITH THE ALERTING SOUND. WHEN THE BRAKES ENGAGE, THE VEH. VEERS TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND THE VEH. GOES INTO A SKID DUE TO THE BRAKES BEING SUDDENLY ENGAGED. THE VEH. ALSO DECELERATES SUDDENLY AS IF IT HAS LOST POWER. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR OTHER DRIVERS WHO CAN'T TELL IF YOU ARE BRAKING BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BRAKE LIGHTS TO BE SEEN TO PREVENT A COLLISION. THANKFULLY WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REACT DEFENSIVELY AND AVOID COLLISIONS WITH OTHER VEH.'S. AND ROADSIDE OBJECTS. WE HAVE SEEN SEVERAL SUGGESTIONS AS TO THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM LIKE THE YAW RATE SENSOR BEING REPLACED. THE COST OF THE PART IS $568.00 WITHOUT THE INSTALL COST.THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF IT OCCURS AT THE WRONG TIME, A PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY IS GOING TO OCCUR. I HAVE SEEN WELL OVER 50 COMPLAINTS ON THIS FROM OTHER OWNERS AND A CLOSED NHTSA INVESTIGATION ON THIS EXACT ISSUE. THEY RECALLED THE 2003 SEQUOIA FOR THE SAME ISSUE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX THIS IN ALL MODEL YEARS BEFORE A LIFE IS LOST. CHECKING ON RECALL FOR AIR BAGS.
WHILE DRIVING ON FLAT, DRY, LEVEL PAVEMENT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS THE VSC HAS BEEN ACTIVATING CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO JERK TO THE RIGHT. AS THE STEERING WHEEL PULLS THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT THERE IS A CHIME, THEN THE VSC AND TRAC SYSTEM SHUTS ITS SELF OFF AND THE "OFF" LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. UPON RESTART, THE VSC IS ON AGAIN AND THE CYCLE REPEATS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON. THERE IS NO WAY TO PREDICT WHEN THE WHEEL WILL BE JERKED AGAIN. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS.
FRAME RUSTED OUT AND NEEDED EXTENSIVE REPAIRS. CLASS ACTION SUIT BY TOYOTA ADMITTED PROBLEMS BUT EXCLUDED MY MODEL YEAR. THEY RECALLED MY CAR IN 2012 BUT TREATED FRAME AND DENIED LIABILITY WHEN IT COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I HAVE PAID OVER $15,000 IN REPAIRS RELATED TO THIS RUST.

JUST DRIVING ALONG, AND FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES GRAB - - JERK THE WHEEL TRUCK ROCKS AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS GO ON. PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY FOR MONTHS. CAN BE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, BUT ALSO HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. I RECALLED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY PISTONS IN MY CALIPERS SEEZING UP SO I REPLACED THEM. BUT SHORTLY AFTER ON THE HIGHWAY I HAD TO COME TO A IMMEDIATE STOP NOT SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES BUT JUST PRESSING THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN THE VSC TRACK OFF LIGHT COMES ON. IF I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF THE LIGHT GOES OFF BUT EVEN IF NOT MOVING NOW IF I PRESS THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN THE LIGHT WILL COME ON. DOING MY RESEARCH ONLINE I NOTICE THE 2003 VERSION HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUE BUT THIS YEAR HAS YET TO BE ON THAT LIST.
FRAME RUST ON 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA - VIN#[XXX]. TOYOTA CASE # [XXX]. ON MAR. 7, 2013 THIS VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS INSPECTED AND FOUND TO BE OK AND THEN TREATED WITH A RUST INHIBITOR AS PART OF A TOYOTA RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE DEALER DOING THIS SERVICE WAS TOYOTA OF SCRANTON, IN PA. 3 1/2 YEARS AND 11,000 MILES LATER THIS VEHICLE FAILED THE PA STATE INSPECTION DUE TOP SIGNIFICANT FRAME RUST THROUGH. THERE ARE LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME AND IN SOME AREAS IN THE REAR VERY LITTLE SOLID METAL REMAINING IN THE FRAME. THE TRAILER HITCH IS ATTACHED TO THE DAMAGED FRAME MAKING AN ACCIDENT WHEN TOWING A TRAILER HIGHLY LIKELY. THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE HAS GONE FROM $5,000 TO 500 AND I WILL SELL THE VEHICLE FOR SCRAP AND PARTS. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE ROTTED FRAME. I BELIEVE THERE ARE NOW THOUSANDS OF UNSAFE TOYOTA SEQUOIA, TUNDRA, AND TACOMA VEHICLES OPERATING ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT SIMPLY BECAUSE THE YEARLY STATE INSPECTION SHOWED THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. I OFTEN PULL A 5000# SKI BOAT, AND 2 HORSE TRAILER BEHIND MY SEQUOIA. I WILL NOT RISK THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, MY HORSES, AND FELLOW MOTORISTS BY DRIVING THIS CAR. BUT, HOW MANY DRIVERS ARE COMPLETELY UNAWARE? HOW MANY BELIEVE THE TOYOTA RECALL WAS EFFECTIVE AND THEIR VEHICLES ARE SAFE? I BELIEVE TOYOTA KNEW THE RUST TREATMENT WAS SIMPLY A WAY TO BUY SOME TIME AND THEY ARE NOW REJECTING CASES "THAT RECALL CAMPAIGN HAS EXPIRED" WAS WHAT [XXX] MY TOYOTA CASE MANAGER'S TOLD ME. SHE DIDN'T OFFER ANY HELP, NO BUYBACK, NO FRAME REPLACEMENT, AND SHE DIDN'T SAY I SHOULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR. TOYOTA KNOWS THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND THEY ARE NOW PUTTING THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS AT RISK, AND ALL WHO SHARE THE ROADS WITH THESE UNSAFE VEHICLES. THE ISSUE WILL BE MOST ACUTE IN THE AREAS OF THE US WHERE HIGHWAYS ARE SALTED AND TREATED FOR WINTER DRIVING. DRIVER'S IN UPSTATE NY, NH, MAINE, MI, WI, MN, ETC. ARE AT HIGH RISK AND TOYOTA KNOWS. HAPPENED YESTERDAY 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS . VSC TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGES FOR NO REASON. DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON FREEWAY, THE TRUCK APPLIES THE BREAKS SHARPLY, TRAC LIGHT COMES ON WITH A WARNING BEEP, MAKES A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND CAN'T USE THE BREAKS OR STERING. BARELY MADE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A BUSY FREEWAY. IT WAS TERRIFYING SPECIALLY WHEN YOUR LITTLE KID IS IN THE TRUCK. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BIG ACCIDENT.
MY COMPLAINT STEMS FROM THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) ISSUE THAT COMMONLY PLAGUES THE 2001-2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. AS MANY OTHERS HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS OVER THIS VSC ISSUE, MINE IS NO DIFFERENT. MY SEQUOIA, A 4X4 SR5 WITH 160K MILES, WORKS FLAWLESSLY OTHER THAN THE VSC LIGHTS BEING CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE RESULTS OF THE MALFUNCTION, POSSIBLY FROM THE YAW RATE SENSOR, PRESENT A MOMENTARILY LOSS OF POWER AND RANDOM UNEXPLAINED STEERING EVENTS. THE ONLY WAY TO TEMPORARY CLEAR THE VSC LIGHTS AND THE EFFECTS OF THE MALFUNCTION IS TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. I FEAR A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE TOYOTA ISSUE A FORMAL RECALL OR PAY FOR A NEW YAW RATE SENSOR AND THE CONSUMER PAYS THE LABOR. OTHER THAN THE VSC ISSUE, THE SEQUOIA IS A GREAT VEHICLE OVERALL.
INTERMITTENT VSC CONTROL WARNINGS, BREAKING ENGAGED WITH PULLING VEHICLE STEERING TO THE RIGHT. SOMETIMES WITH ONLY THE WARNING LIGHTS AND CHECK LIGHTS. FIRST OCCURRENCE DAY AFTER PURCHASE OF THIS USED VEHICLE (50 MILES). TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND COULD NOT FIND NOTHING WRONG, VERY SCARE . SPEED HAS BEEN BETWEEN 10 TO 65 MPH. HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND VSC WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE YAW SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 188,000.
MY 2001 SEQUOIA (151,000 MI) WHICH HAS BEEN GARAGED AND MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY IS SUDDENLY SHOWING THE VSC LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME! THERE IS A VERY ROUGH FEELING WHEN I'M DRIVING THE CAR LIKE SOMETHING IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS VERY WRONG. THERE IS A "CLUNKING" NOISE AS SLOW AS 5 MPH AT ALL TIMES AND ALL SPEEDS. AT HIGH SPEEDS, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY PULL TO THE LEFT MOMENTARILY AND THEN RELEASE ITSELF BUT THE LIGHTS NEVER GO OUT UNLESS CAR IS OFF. I HAVE READ THE 138 COMPLAINTS AT THE DOT.GOV SITE ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM AND THUS FAR, TOYOTA CORP IS IGNORING THE COMPLAINTS.WHERE IS THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I KNOW ALOT OF OWNERS WHO HAVEN'T EVEN INVESTIGATED WHY IT'S HAPPENING IN THIER TRUCK TOO. HOW CAN THEY DO BUSINESS LIKE THIS ??? THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA !!! I WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO HAVE TOYOTA REPAIR THEIR PROBLEM ON THEIR PRODUCT. JUST FIX YOUR PROBLEM TOYOTA AND I WILL CALL OFF THE DOGS... SIMPLE STUFF.

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL BRACKET WAS CORRODED AND FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE...UPDATED 11/21/16 *BF
I AM HEARING A RATTLING SOUND THAT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS COMING FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. I HAD RECENTLY (10 DAYS) REPLACED ALL THE SHOCKS WITH BILSTEIN AND REPLACED THE TIRES WITH PIRELLI ATR P265/76R-16. THE PROBLEM APPEARS MORE PRONOUNCED IN A TURN AND OVER MORE ROUGH ROAD (NOTHING CRAZY, ASPHALT HIGHWAY). I DO NOT NOTICE THE SOUND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I SUSPECT THAT THIS CONDITION MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ATC OR VSC SYSTEM. I TRIED TO DISCONNECT THE VSC SYSTEM HOWEVER I STILL WOULD OCCASIONALLY GET THE NOISE. THIS IS SIMILAR TO A PROBLEM I HAD 6 YEARS AGO: WHILE IN MOTION, ENTERING A DOWNHILL TURN, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT THE ENTIRE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS SHEARING OFF. THE CONDITION WAS MORE COMMON IN A TURN, BUT COULD BE INDUCED IN A BUMP. I HAD RECENTLY INSTALLED NEW TIRES AND A SUSPENSION SO THE DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED THAT THE SLIGHTLY OVERSIZED TIRE (P265/75R-16) WAS HE CAUSE. I REPLACED THE BRAND NEW PIRELLI TIRES WITH THE FACTORY SIZE MICHELLIN'S HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I HAD THE VEHICLE RE-INSPECTED AND THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A WORN RACK & PINION ASSEMBLY. I PAID TO HAVE A NEW ASSEMBLY INSTALLED; THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN TEST DRIVEN IT EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS WHEN I DROVE IT. AFTER RETURNING TO THE DEALER I HAD THE HEAD MECHANIC TEST DRIVE WITH ME; HE STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL VSC OPERATING CONDITION. I INSISTED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE HIGHER UP AND HAPPENED TO CONNECT WITH A TOYOTA FACTORY ENGINEER FROM JAPAN. AFTER A TEST DRIVE HE CONCLUDED THE PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY SOMETHING IN THE VSC SYSTEM. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION THEY DISCOVERED A SENSOR WAS BAD. I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AS WELL. NOW, I AM BEGINNING TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, COINCIDENTALLY, AFTER A TIRE REPLACEMENT USING A PIRELLI P265-75R-16 AND NEW BILSTEIN SHOCKS.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 30-45 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE LEFT AS IF SOMEONE ELSE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. IF I HADN'T MOVED FAST IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IN THE NEIGHBORING LANE. THERE WAS A BEEP AT THE SAME TIME AND THE TRAC LIGHT AND VSC TRAC LIGHT WENT ON. UPON FURTHER TESTING THE YAW RATE SENSOR HAD A FAIL CODE OF C1234 AND THE CODE C1363 BOOSTER PEDAL FORCE SWITCH VAULT WAS ALSO AFFECTED. OUR YAW RATE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACING. I HEAR A RECALL IS IN THE WORKS FOR THIS. IF AO I WANT A REFUND PLEASE. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS.
WHILE DRIVING ON DRY ROADS, THE VSC ANTI-SLIP COMES ON AND STARTS BRAKING, OCCASSIONALLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO ONE SIDE, AND ENGAGES THE ABS WHICH MAKES THE CAR VIBRATE AND MAKES THE DRIVER QUESTION WHETHER THE BRAKES WORK OR NOT.
THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND ARE STAY ON UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT DOWN. SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS COME ON AS SOON AS STARTUP. SOMETIMES WHEN IDLING. SUSPENSION IS VERY STIFF, AND STEERING SEEMS AFFECTED AS WELL AS ENGINE SEEMS TO LUG WHEN DRIVING AND THE LIGHTS COME ON.
TRACTION CONTROL MALFUNCTION. WHEN IN MOTION THE CAR ENGAGES THE BRAKES FOR NO REASON, INTERMITTENTLY APPLYING THE BRAKES CAUSING THE CAR TO PULL & SWERVE, AND SHUDDER. THIS HAPPENS WHEN GOING STRAIGHT, TURNING, OR JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.
AIRBAG LIGHT WAS FLASHING MECHANIC DETERMINED THE CODE TO WAS B0132 SHORT IN PT SQUIB RIGHT CIRCUIT GROUND. TOYOTA DEALER DETERMINED THE CAUSE WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE RIGHT SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. ONCE THAT WAS REPLACED, THE ERROR PERSISTED AND DETERMINED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR ALSO HAS TO BE REPLACED. AIRBAG SENSOR FAILURE IS COMMON IN MANY TOYOTA MODELS. HOWEVER, TOYOTA SAID THAT THE 2001 SEQUOIA IS NOT IN THE RECALL LIST.
TOYOTA 2001 SEQUOIA FRAME ROT MAY 20TH, I WAS DRIVING WITH, MY DAUGHTER. THE CAR SHOOK BACK AND FORTH. I DROVE TO OUR MECHANIC. THEY CALLED SAYING THE FRAME WAS HORRIBLY RUSTED AND WAS NOT DRIVABLE. SAID IT WAS A MIRACLE MYSELF AND CHILD WERE NOT IN A DEVASTATING, CATASTROPHIC, DEADLY SITUATION THAT DAY. TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
REGARDLESS OF SPEED A WARNING BELL WILL SOUND, SEVERAL INSTRUMENT LIGHTS COME ON AND THE BRAKES ACTIVATE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. I'VE EXPERIENCED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES WITH SEEMINGLY NO COMMON DENOMINATOR. NEITHER SPEED NOR STEERING INPUT SEEM TO BE THE TRIGGER FOR THIS. I'VE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WITH NO SATISFACTION AND CONTACTED TOYOTA OF AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH NO SATISFACTION.

DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT. I WAS CHARGED NEARLY $1,000.00 TO CHANGE THE FAULTY ABS SENSOR. I WANT MY MONEY REFUNDED.
RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LOCKS UP WITHOUT WARNING AND ANTI SKID LIGHT AND ALARM COME ON. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE VCS TRAC LIGHT AND THE VCS OFF LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON AND CAR DRIVES FINE UNTIL ITS TURNED OF THEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN .
WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD COME ON PERIODICALLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I MAINTAIN THE CAR PROPERLY WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED SERVICE. THEY GO OFF ON THEIR OWN. MY MECHANIC HAS NO IDEA WHAT CAUSES THIS. IT HAPPENS STANDING STILL, IN MOTION OR JUST BY STARTING THE VEHICLE.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2015, I WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 37 TOWARD CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, AND OUT OF THE BLUE MY WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE HAD A HARD SHAKE/SHIMMY IN THE REAR END. IT ROCKED MY REAREND LEFT TO RIGHT. VERY SCARY. LUCKILY I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL. THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR WENT OFF. I BRAKED, THINKING MAYBE I HAD HAD A TIRE GO FLAT QUICKLY. VERY SCARY AT 75 MPH. ALSO VERY LUCKY THAT NOT SEMI'S OR VEHICLES WERE NEAR ME. I TURNED THE SEQUOIA OFF AND GOT OUT TO CHECK THE TIRES. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I GOT BACK IN AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS HAD GONE OFF, SO I STARTED TO ACCELERATE BACK INTO TRAFFIC...AND THE SEQUOIA WENT CRAZY AGAIN, REAR END SHAKING, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS GOING OFF. IT WAS 8 PM, DARK. I WAS TOO SCARED TO TRY DRIVING AGAIN, SO I CALLED FOR A TOW. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THERE WERE MANY. SOME PEOPLE SAY IT IS AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL SENSOR. EACH WHEEL HAS ONE AND MAYBE ONE WENT OUT CAUSING THAT WHEEL TO ROTATE DIFFERENTLY FROM THE OTHERS, JERKING THE CAR AROUND. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! I HAD BEEN IN SAN ANTONIO, TX RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC JUST 3 HOURS BEFORE AND HAD THIS JERKING THAT CAUSED SWERVING HAPPENED ON THE DOWNTOWN HIGHWAYS, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. PEOPLE SHOULD BE WARNED AND TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL VEHICLES AFFECTED, BECAUSE FROM MY RESEARCH, THERE ARE A LOT OF AFFECTED SEQUOIAS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
WHILE TRAVELING 74-75MPH IN MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON A DRY HIGHWAY PASSING A SLOWER SEMI-TRUCK ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOUD GRINDING NOISE, THE VSC AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS FLASHED FOLLOWED BY A SERIES OF HIGH-PITCHED BEEPS. THE SUV LOST PARTIAL CONTROL, AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING A LITTLE AS IT PULLED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT, SCARILY CLOSE TO THE BIG RIG. HOWEVER, THE SCARIEST PART WAS THAT DRIVER INPUT CONTROLLED NOTHING FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVERS MANUAL SAID IT WAS SAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED 3 OTHER TIMES ON THE REMAINING 700 MILES OF MY TRIP. EACH TIME AFTER AN INCIDENT THE SUV DID FINE AS LONG AS THE "VSC AND TRACTION CONTROL OFF" LIGHTS WERE ON. BUT AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPPED, THEY WOULD RESET AND TURN OFF. THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR AGAIN AND THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN BACK ON. TOYOTA CLAIMED NO RESPONSIBILITY. THEY REPLACED THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER AT A COST TO ME OF $1123.36. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH MILES TO SEE IF THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED 23 PAGES OF 2001 SEQUOIA OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND EVEN A RECALL FOR 2003 MODELS WITH THE SAME SAFETY DEFECT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THERE ARE INJURIES OR FATALITIES.

THIS HAS DONE IT 9 TIMES NOW. IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME! SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR. WEATHER IS NOT A FACTOR. IF THE OVERIDE BUTTON FOR THE TRACTION CONTROL IS ENGAGED ON NOT IS NOT A FACTOR. TODAY (9-19-2015) WAS THE LAST STRAW. IN 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC, SPEED 45, IT CAME ON. CARS ON BOTH SIDES THE DID ITS THING! I ALMOST HIT THE CAR TO THE RIGHT OF ME. I AM NOW PARKING IT UNTIL I AM CONTACTED BY SOMEONE AT THE NHTSA OR TOYOTA. I AM HOLDER OF A CDL LICENSE OF OVER 40 YEARS. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS THING I HAVE EVER SEEN A VEHICLE DO! I UNDERSTAND THERE IS NO RECALL! HELP!
