TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED EXTREME SEVERE RUST AND DETERIORATING WITH BIG HOLES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE ONE OF THE TIRES, HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE FAULTY TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO MOUNT THE VEHICLE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BECAUSE THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS ROTTED OUT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,289.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO AN ENBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MOUTH AND HEAD INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
WAS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN AT ABOUT 50MPH WHEN THE WHOLE CAR STARTED TO SWAY BACK AND FORTH. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY MAINTENANCE GUY AT MIDAS AND DROVE IT OVER. TURNS OUT THE ENTIRE FRAME RUSTED AND ROTTED THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT. WE HAD IT THOROUGHLY CHECKED OUT BY A COUPLE OF PEOPLE LAST YEAR BEFORE PUTTING MONEY INTO FIXING IT UP AND KEEPING IT FOR MY SON TO DRIVE. IT CHECKED OUT FINE. NOBODY COULD TELL IT WAS ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. IF THE FRAME HAD FALLEN APART 4 DAYS EARLIER, MY SON AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED, AS HE DROVE IT FOR 2 HRS AROUND THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE TOLD THAT IF IT HAD FALLEN APART AROUND A TURN ON THE INTERSTATE OR ON AN OFF RAMP, IT WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OVER. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THEN, BUT AM GRATEFUL IT DIDN'T WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MIDAS HAS SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT IN ALL HIS YEARS WORKING ON CARS. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND KNOWING THAT ONLINE WE HAVE READ MANY STORIES OF THE SAME PROBLEM, THEY STONEWALLED ME AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I AM TRULY CONCERNED FOR ANYONE ELSE DRIVING ONE OF THESE SEQUOIAS AND NOT KNOWING THAT IT COULD FALL APART AT ANY TIME. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN AMAZING SHAPE, AND IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT TOYOTA HAD NOT RECALLED THESE, AS THEY DID THE TACOMAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION!
WAS DRIVING 60MPH & CAR HAD LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER CAR. DEALER SAYS IT MIGHT BE SKID CONTROL MODULE OR YAW CONTROL? IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BUT DEALER CAN NOT TELL ME IF REPAIR WILL WORK. MIGHT BE A DIFFERENT SENSOR. WHEN THIS OCCURS, I CAN TURN OFF ENGINE & RETART, THEN DRIVE AGAIN. OFTEN, THE VSC LIGHTS STAY LIGHT UP ON DASHBOARD. DEALER PUT COMPUTER ON CAR FOR LOCATING REPAIR CODES. BUT DEALER IS STILL NOT SURE WHAT WILL FIX VEHICLE
MY 2001 SEQUOIA WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN NOVEMBER 2014. IT WAS TOTALED BUT I DECIDED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AS IT WAS IN GREAT RUNNING CONDITION PRIOR TO ACCIDENT. IT HAD BEEN RUNNING FINE TO AROUND MAY WHEN THE VSC WENT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND A CURVE MAKING ME ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY WITH A SLIGHT JERK OF THE CAR TO THE LEFT. ON JUNE 25TH THERE WAS A VERY VIOLENT JERK TO THE LEFT WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY BOYS. TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP ON 6/27/15 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE YAW RATE SENSOR. DEALERSHIP RE-CALIBRATED AND IT RAN FINE FOR 2 DAYS. ON 6/29/15 THERE WAS ANOTHER VIOLENT JERK OF THE TRUCK WITH THE VSC LIGHTS COMING ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO BRING IT BACK IN. TOOK TRUCK IN ON 6/30/15 AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO REPAIR THE YAW RATE SENSOR SINCE THE RECALIBRATION DID NOT WORK. I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $746.29 FOR REPLACEMENT AND THIS WAS TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE $108 I SPENT ON 6/27/15. TOLD THE REPAIRMAN I WOULD INVESTIGATE FURTHER AND WOULD GET BACK WITH HIM. AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH, THE TRUCK JERKED VIOLENTLY AGAIN ALMOST SLAMMING ME INTO THE CAR IN THE LEFT LANE. WITH THE HIGH MILEAGE OF THE TRUCK I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND AN ABSORBENT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR REPAIRS. AS THESE SENSORS HAVE REPORTEDLY HAD REPORTS OF MULTIPLE MALFUNCTIONS IN THE PAST BASED ON MY RESEARCH, I AM NOT EVEN SURE THAT HAVING IT REPLACED WOULD EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM AND IF IT DID, WOULD I BE FACED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM A FEW MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE NEW SENSOR GOES BAD. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA OR THE GOVERNMENT WOULD ALLOW THIS TYPE OF MALFUNCTION WHICH IS LIFE-THREATENING TO GO ON UNRESOLVED. IS IT REALLY GOING TO TAKE THE LOSS OF LIVES AS IN THE CASE OF THE AIRBAGS BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? HELP!
MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VIOLENTLY EXPERIENCED A VSC TRAC ERROR WHEN DRIVING NEXT TO A SEMI ON THE FREEWAY. IT ALMOST PULLED MY CAR INTO THE SEMI, AND THEN OFF THE ROAD AS THE WHEEL JERKED, BRAKES AND ENGINE RESPONSE CUT SIGNIFICANTLY. THIS HIGHWAY ISSUE HAPPENED LAST MONTH, AND JUST THIS WEEK, THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT, OCCURRING ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO TRIGGERS. THE STEERING WHEEL SOMETIME SHAKES, AND SOMETIME PULLS SUDDENLY. IT OCCURS SOMETIMES DURING A SLOW TURN, BUT IS ALSO HAPPENING JUST DRIVING AT 25 MILES AN HOUR DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD.....UPDATED 11/13/15 *BF UPDATED 12/28/2015*JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THAT THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A LIMP MODE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V148000 (TIRES). FOR YEARS, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THAT RECALL WOULD BE PERFORMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
DRIVING DOWN ROAD AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT END DROPPED; THE VEHICLE JUST SEIZED. THE BALL JOINT SNAPPED AND THE TIRE BUCKLED ON THE VEHICLE THERE WAS NO BRAKES OR STEERING. FORTUNATELY I HAD JUST EXITED A MAJOR HIGHWAY ONTO A STRAIGHT SECONDARY ROAD WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I FEEL IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT; WHICH WOULD HAVE INCLUDED MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES AS WELL.. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SWERVED TO THE LEFT, I WAS STARTLED, IT'S GOOD I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL AND DID NOT HIT ANYBODY . I WAS JUST PLAIN LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO VEHICLE ON MY LEFT BUT WHAT IF IT HAPPENED ON A RAINY DAY? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN THE GAS PEDDLE IS DEPRESSED THE CAR WILL NOT GO! I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN 2 ACCIDENTS DUE TO IT! *TR
THE TRACTION CONTROL ON MY 01 SEQUOIA COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING AT AROUND 10 MPH . THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS TO ACCIDENTS. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO ASKS ME TO KEEP IT OVER NIGHT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALL ME AND TELL MORE THAT THE SKID CONTROL ECU AND THE TRANSLATE ECU ARE MALFUNCTIONING. THEY TELL ME BECAUSE IF THE YEAR AND MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE TO REPLACE THEM IT WOULD BE AT MY COST $2500 IF MY COST. HOW CAN THEY TELL YOU THAT SOMETHING THEN MANUFACTURE IS FAULTY THEN TRY TO CHARGE ME TO REPLACE IT. NOW I AM FORCED TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH FOUR CHILDREN AS I COMMUTE DAILY BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR OR TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE. *TR

I BARELY TAPPED THR BACK OF AN OLD TOYOTA COROLLA AND AT A LOW SPEED WHERE NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO EITHER VEHICLE BESIDE MINE WHEN THE AIRBAGS UNNECESSARILY DEPLOYED AND SHATTERED MY WINDSHIELD. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY BODY SHOP GUY HE SAID THERE WAS NO WAY THE AIRBAGS SHOULD'VE DEPLOYED HE HAD CHECKED MY SENSORS AND THEY HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED. ABOUT A MONTH AGO I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR SOMEONE TO COME UP FROM I BELIEVE ATLANTA AND INSPECT MY CAR. I NEVER COULD GET A RESPONSE FROM HIM. TESTERDAY I CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA INQUIRING ABOUT MY AIRBAGS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID YOURS WERE RECALLED NEW ONES ARE HERE BRING YOUR CAR HERE IN THE MORNING AND IT'LL TAKE ABOUT THREE HOURS TO FIX. I WAS EXCITED TO FINALLY GET SOMEWHERE WITH THIS ISSUE... THIS MORNING I TAKE MY CAR UP THERE AND THEY TELL ME THAT IT WASNT RECALLED AND TO CALL THE GUY WHO CANE DOWN AND INSPECTED IT. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE WAY THIS IS BEING HANDLED AND HOW NO ONE WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT AND FIX IT. *TR
IMMEDIATELY AFTER, NOT DURING, A VERY MILD AUTO ACCIDENT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE. THEY SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED MILD BURNS TO MY HANDS AND FOREARMS. FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I PULLED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 2 CAR LENGTHS AND THE AUTOMOBILE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED WITHOUT WARMING OR BREAK LIGHTS. I HAD ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE MY FRONT BUMPER TAPPED HER REAR BUMPER. MY BODY DID NOT EVEN MOVE WHEN THE TWO BUMPERS TAPPED EACH OTHER. NO DAMAGE WAS NOTICED ON EITHER BUMPER, NOT EVEN A SCRATCH. MY WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED THAT DAY IN ORDER FOR ME TO DRIVE HOME. I WAITED 5 HOURS FOR THE REPAIR MAN TO COME. I FILLED THIS ON MY AUTO INSURANCE WINDSHIELD POLICY AND PAID MY $50 DEDUCTIBLE. ALFA INSURANCE PROMPTLY RAISED MY COLLISION DEDUCTIBLE FROM $250 TO $500 AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD NEVER REPLACE ANOTHER WINDSHIELD. IF THE AIR BAGS HAD NOT SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I AM SO ANGRY AT TOYOTA. NO INSURANCE CLAIM WAS FILLED BY THE OTHER DRIVER SINCE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE. NO TICKET WAS GIVEN BY THE OFFICER THAT CAME TO THE SCENE. THE OFFICER TOLD ME THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED AND THAT HE THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THIS IS WHAT CAUSED ME TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THE AIR BAG RECALL ON THE SEQUOIA STARTING IN 2002, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE 2001. I FILLED A MALFUNCTION REPORT WITH TOYOTA AND THEY SENT OUT AN INVESTIGATOR. AFTER 45 DAYS I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SENSORS AND DENIED THE CLAIM. I HAVE NOT HAD THE USE OF MY SEAT BELTS, HORN OR AIR BAGS TO PROVIDE A SAFE RIDE SINCE JANUARY. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH ICE AND SNOW WITH NO PROTECTION FOR MY FOUR CHILDREN OR I. IT IS OBVIOUS TOYOTA DOES NOT CARE ABOUT SAFETY. *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEED GOING DOWN HILL FULLY LOADED AT NIGHT IN SIERRA WITH TEMPS IN LOW 30S AND NO SNOW IN THE AREA WHERE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, MY 01 TOY SEQUOIA PULLED TO THE LEFT WITHIN SECONDS BOTH TRAC OFF/VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. ALL OF MY MUD AND SNOW TIRES HAVE GOOD TREAD. LUCKILY, I HAD BOTH HANDS FIRMLY ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN IT HAPPENED. ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED. THESE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON UNTIL TO DATE (1/17/16) BECAUSE I HAVE NOT TAKEN IN TO TOY DEALERSHIPS; GUESS MANY THIRD PARTIES DON'T WANT TO MESS AROUND WITH THIS ISSUE. MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN POSTED IN REGARDS TO VSC ISSUE. TOY NEED TO RECALL THIS MODEL NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME FAILED TO SUPPORT VEHICLE PROPERLY. AS A RESULT, THE CADILLAC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 260,000.
WHILE DRIVING ALONG AT ~40MPH, CAR JEERED TO THE RIGHT AND MADE A NOISE AS IF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE PUMPING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VSC & TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE THEN DROVE NORMALLY UNTIL THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED REPEATEDLY MAKING IT UNSAFE TO OPERATE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW YAW SENSOR - $558. *TR
OUR VEHICLE HAS A SQUEAK AND CRACKING SOUND WHICH IS VERY SCARY WHEN RIDING IN THIS TRUCK.MY HUSBAND WAS INFORMED BY A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR UNDER CARRIAGE RUST/CORROSION WHICH COULD LEAD TO POSSIBLE FRAME DAMAGE. ON 9/22 WE CALLED OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, GAVE THE VIN AND WAS TOLD THEIR IS NO RECALL, & ADVISED TO NOTIFY TOYOTA IF WE WANTED TO PURSUE THIS ISSUE. SO WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOYOTA & REC'D A CASE #, AND WAS INFORMED THE ISSUE WAS THE UNDER CARRIAGE WHICH WAS RUSTING AND THE CORROSION WAS CAUSING FRAME DAMAGE DUE TO THE SALT AND OTHER ELEMENTS ON ROADS FOR ICE & SNOW ON 9/23 WE REC'D A CALL INFORMING US THAT THE "SAFETY CAMPAIGN" ENDED ON 7/29, NOTIFICATIONS WENT OUT TO FIRST TIME OWNERS AND OR DMV CURRENT OWNERS. MY HUSBAND & I HAVE BEEN REGISTERED OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE 9/26/07. WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS SAFETY CAMPAIGN WHICH POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT OUR STATE OF MD IS A STATE IN WHICH THIS VEHICLE IS EFFECTED BY THIS RECALL/CAMPAIGN. FOR THE SAFETY AND LIVES OF MY FAMILY I AM WRITING TO HAVE THE "SAFETY CAMPAIGN" OPENED SO THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL FEEL AND SOUND SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY WILL NOT BE JEOPARDIZED EVERY TIME WE RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE WHICH MOST OF THE TIME IS DAILY.WHY WOULD WE NOT ADHERE TO A RECALL IF WE WERE NOTIFIED? VEHICLE'S TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING ON DRY FLAT PAVEMENT. SKID LIGHT AND SOUND CAME ON FOLLOWED BY VSC AND TRAC CONTROL LIGHTS. VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT, MADE LOUD GRINDING NOISE, AND WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL STEERING AND BRAKING. THIS CONTINUED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE, STOPPED, AND THEN DID IT AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO FATAL ACCIDENT IF IT OCCURS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT HAPPENED FEW TIMES, TOOK IT TO DEALER CAN NOT FIND ISSUE BUT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL. *TR
IT FEELS LIKE ITS SLIPPING AND THE WARNING SIREN GOES OFF, TRAC & VCS LIGHTS START FLASHING AND VEHICLE STARTS GRINDING SOUNDS LIKE METAL ON METAL AND LOOSE CONTROL OF CAR, CAN'T BRAKE, CAN'T STEER JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO PASS AS YOU ARE ROLLING AWAY. THE CONTACT HAD CONTACTED THE DEALER TO EXPLAIN THE FAILURE AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE SUB FRAME, HOWEVER, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VOLUNTARY RECALL WAS EXPIRED AND NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO ACTIONS COULD BE TAKEN TO ACCOMODATE HIM. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED UNDER A "LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN" FOR EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. VEHICLES FOR THIS CAMPAIGN ARE BEING INSPECTED AND IF THEY DO NOT HAVE SIGNIFICANT FRAME PERFORATION FROM RUST, A RUST RESISTANT COMPOUND IS BEING APPLIED. FOR VEHICLES THAT DO HAVE SIGNIFICANT FRAME PERFORATION, FAILING THE INSPECTION, TOYOTA IS REPLACING THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT WHILE TOYOTA IS REPLACING THE FRAME FREE OF CHARGE, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO COVER THE COSTS OF ANY COMPONENT THAT BREAKS (DUE TO SIGNIFICANT RUST) DURING THE DISASSEMBLY OR REASSEMBLY, I.E. SVC-TRAC OFF LIGHTS CAME ON AND SOME NOISE THIS HAPPENED IN DRY PERFECT DRIVING CONDITIONS. AFTER THAT, SOME TIMES THE LIGHTS CAME ON WITH OUT NOISE. AFTER SHUTTING ENGINE OFF AND TURNED ON AGAIN ALL LIGHTS WERE GONE. I SCANNED TO SEE IF ANY CODE WAS STORED BUT NOTHING. UNTIL ONE DAY DRIVING ON MAIN BOULEVARD SPEED AROUND 40 MPH IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CAR PULLED ME TO THE RIGHT AND LOUD GRINDING NOISE HAPPENED AT SAME TIME. THIS SOUND AND SHAKE OF THE VEHICLE LAST NO MORE THEN 15 SECONDS. AFTER THAT, IT STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN UP TO THE TIME THAT IT WAS HAPPENING EVERY MILE. THE CAR WAS BRAKING ITSELF WITHOUT WARNING, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND LEFT REAR WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SCANNED AND NOTHING, ASKED ME IF I COULD LEAVE THE CAR ONE MORE DAY. NEXT DAY THEY CALL ME TO SAY THAT YAW RATE SENSOR WAS FAULTY. I REPLACED, SENSOR PLUS LABOR WAS $ 800. I HAVE NOT FELT THAT PROBLEM AGAIN. TOYOTA PEOPLE SEEM THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY KNOW THIS IS HAPPENING. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE VEHICLE PULLED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT AND ITS TRAC/VCS CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN TO BLINK AND THE WARNING SOUND CAME ON AS WELL. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, ON MAY 24, 2014, I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY KIDS THROUGH INTERSTATE 15 SOUTH AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR. MY TRUCK PULLED ME TO THE RIGHT IN WHICH I HAD TO REACT FAST AND HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS. VSC-TRAC OFF LIGHT TURNED ON WITH A BEEPING NOISE. I TRIED TO BREAK AND MY TRUCK LOST CONTROLLED AND BEGAN MAKING A GRINDING METAL NOISE. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK AND STEERED STRAIGHT. THIS LASTED ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I HAD MY KIDS WITH ME. IF I HADN'T REACTED FAST, WE WERE GOING TO BE THROWN OFF THE FREEWAY. I TOOK IT IN TO THE MECHANIC AND THE COMPUTER SCANNER SHOWED-NO ACTIVE FAULTS. VSC- IS THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL. THE VSC AUTO ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES. THERE'S A BUTTON THAT TURNS OFF AND OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DASHBOARD. I NEVER TOUCH THIS BUTTON. THIS VSC LIGHTS OFF AND ON AND PULLS THE CAR WITHOUT A WARNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN ESCONDIDO AND SPOKE TO MIKE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. HE SAID HE'S NEVER HEARD ANYBODY COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE'S A RECALL IN THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AND VIBRATION FELT THROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL, WITH LOSS OF POWER, AND PULL TO THE RIGHT ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY HAPPENING. ALARM BELLS ALL GOING OFF IN THE CAR. IT IS VERY LOUD NOISE FOR ALL OCCUPANTS. TERRIFYING OCCURRENCE WITH LOSS OF BRAKES AND POWER. FIRST EVENT LASTED APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS. PULLED OVER AND THE CAR SEEMED FINE. THIS HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT BUT OCCURRED AFTER CAR WAS WARM AND OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN ITS IS WARMER OUTSIDE AS WELL. NOW, 16 MOS LATER, THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND TOYOTA DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH CAR AND CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR SURE. WILL HAVE TO PARK THE CAR NOW SINCE THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS SHOWN RANDOM ACTIVATION OF THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON DRY, SMOOTH PAVEMENT. EACH INCIDENT THE SAME THING HAPPENS: THE ACTIVATION OF A BRIEF AUDIBLE WARNING BEEP, THE VSC INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES ALONG WITH THE SLIPPERY SURFACE LIGHT (TWO SQUIGGLY LINES) AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGINS RANDOMLY APPLYING HARD ABS BRAKING TO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, ACCOMPANIED WITH A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT COMING FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE BRAKES FEEL AS IF THEY ARE PULSATING DURING EACH OF THESE INCIDENTS, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. IT JERKS AND SWERVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN CONTROL IS TO REDUCE THE SPEED AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AS POSSIBLE. THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS CUT OFF. ONCE THE CAR IS TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT. AFTER THE CAR SITS FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR MORE OR OVER NIGHT THE LIGHTS WILL NO LONGER BE LGO OUT. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK DIAGNOSED WITH THE YAW RATE CENSOR CODE BY ONE REPAIR SHOP AND ONE AUTOPARTS STORE. OVER THE PAST YEAR, THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM HAS RECURRED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES WITHOUT WARNING AND THERE IS NOT A PREDICTABLE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES THAT SEEMS TO CAUSE AN OCCURRENCE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT A SUDDEN RANDOM ACTUATION OF THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM INITIATED THE EVENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SUBFRAME DUE TO CORROSION HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DISENGAGE FROM FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD FEEL AS IF IT WAS CONSTANTLY AND INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184,286.

RECEIVED COURTESY INSPECTION THAT INCLUDED TIRE TREAD/CONDITION CHECK. CHECKS WERE GOOD WITH OUTER/INNER TREAD DEPTH OF 8/5, 7/5, 8/8, 8/8. TIRES ROTATED AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT ACCOMPLISHED DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR ON FRONT TIRES. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT WILL FLASH AND ENGAGE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT AND SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THEN AFTER 1-10 SECONDS IT WILL STOP AND THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT WILL STAY ON. IT SCARES YOU EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS, MOST ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A GOOD GRIP ON THE WHEEL YOU WILL BE IN THE OTHER LANE BEFORE YOU KNOW WHATS HAPPENING. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS NOTIFIED BY TOYOTA THAT MY 2001 SEQUOIA WAS PART OF A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR 2001 TO 2004 SEQUOIAS. CERTAIN OF THESE SEQUOIAS EXPERIENCED MORE THAN NORMAL'CORROSION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME. I TOOK THE CAR TO MOLLE TOYOTA IN KANSAS CITY FOR INSPECTION. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE DID HAVE A HOLE IN THE FRAME AND QUALIFIED FOR A FRAME REPLACEMENT. PICTURES WERE TAKEN. I WAS PROMISED COPIES BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM. APPARENTLY TUNDRA AND THE TACOMA VEHICLES WERE ALSO PREVIOUSLY RECALLED FOR FRAME RUST DUE TO USING INFERIOR METAL WHICH RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND BY THE TIME IT WAS VISIBLE IT WAS TOO LATE TO CORRECT. SPECIFICALLY RELEVANT IS THE FACT THAT FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION BY NHTSA IN OCTOBER 2009. TOYOTA ISSUED A REGIONAL RECALL THAT COVERED 110,000 2000-2003 TOYOTA TUNDRA VEHICLES. THE SEQUOIA AND TUNDRA ARE BUILT USING THE SAME FRAME AND MAY BE BUILT ON THE SAME ASSEMBLY LINE, AND PROBABLY USE THE SAME STEEL FOR THE FRAME. WHY WAS THE SEQUOIA NOT ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE PREVIOUS INQUIRES AND RECALLS? DEALERSHIPS MUST HAVE KNOWN OF THE PROBLEM FOR THE TUNDRA AND THE SEQUOIA VEHICLES. YET NO ONE INFORMED OWNERS. NO ONE INSPECTED THE SEQUOIA. THIS IS CLEAR NEGLIGENCE. THIS WAS KNOWN SINCE AT LEAST 2009. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE PUT A LOT OF MONEY INTO THIS VEHICLE. UPON LEARNING OF THE DEFECT I EXPLORED THE POSSIBILITY OF TRADING THE VEHICLE IN. I DISCLOSED THE FRAME PROBLEM AS PART OF THIS. NO DEALER WANTED THE VEHICLE. THE SUGGESTION WAS TO SELL THE VEHICLE MYSELF. I FIND IT PARTICULARLY TROUBLING THAT THE MOLLE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ACTUALLY SUGGESTED THAT IT MIGHT BE NECESSARY FOR ME TO SIGN A WAIVER IN ORDER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP. THE WAIVER WAS TO HOLD TOYOTA HARMLESS SHOULD SOMETHING RESULT AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECT. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN IN TALKING TO THE CASE MANGER ASSIGNED TO MY COMPLAINT SHE REPEATED THIS REQUEST. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE HAS EXHIBITED RANDOM ACTIVATION OF THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON DRY, SMOOTH PAVEMENT. EACH INCIDENT IS CHARACTERIZED BY: THE ACTIVATION OF A BRIEF AUDIBLE WARNING BEEP, THE VSC INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES ALONG WITH THE SLIPPERY SURFACE LIGHT (TWO SQUIGGLY LINES) AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGINS RANDOMLY APPLYING HARD ABS BRAKING TO THE WHEELS INTERMITTENTLY SHIFTING FROM SIDE TO SIDE, BACK TO FRONT, ACCOMPANIED WITH A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THAT APPEARS TO EMANATE FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM. DURING THESE INCIDENTS, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AS IT JERKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THE ONLY VIABLE RESPONSE IS TO REDUCE SPEED AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. TO RECOVER CONTROL, THE VEHICLE IGNITION MUST BE TURNED OFF AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. OVER THE PAST YEAR, THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM HAS RECURRED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES WITHOUT WARNING AND THERE IS NOT PREDICTABLE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES THAT SEEMS TO INITIATE AN OCCURRENCE. MY WIFE NOW REFUSES TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE DRAMATICALLY REDUCED THE USAGE THIS SUV FOR FEAR THAT ANOTHER INCIDENT MAY RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT! *TR
