THE SEQUOIA VSC TRAC,VSC OFF SENSOR LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF AND HEARING GRINDING NOISE,AND LOSE POWER. AND THE ROLL OVER SYSTEM LIGHT COME ON. *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN MAJOR INTERSTATE WHEN THE VSC WARNING CAME ON WITH BUZZER. BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY WERE BEING GROUND DOWN, ENGINE DECELERATED, AND COULD FEEL BUMPING AND GRINDING ON BRAKE PEDAL. PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER CAR, FOUND NOTHING. GOT BACK ON INTERSTATE AND SAME THING HAPPENED ONLY THIS TIME THE SYSTEM TURNED ITSELF OFF. CAN NOT TURN THE VSC OFF WITH THE BUTTON PROVIDED. RESEARCH ON INTERNET REVEALS NOT AN UNIQUE ISSUE WITH SEQUOIA. HAS ALSO HAPPENED WITH TUNDRA AND OTHER TOYOTAS WITH VSC SYSTEM. NO FIX AVAILABLE AS OF 07/30/2012 THAT CAN BE FOUND. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, I WAS DRIVING ON I 90 AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. ALL OF A SUDDEN VSC TRAC SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON OFF OFF COUPLE TIMES AND THEN IT AUTO ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE THE BRAKES. I ALMOST LOST THE BALANCE OF MY SUV. I HAD MY 2 YOUNG KIDS AND MY WIFE WITH ME. *TR
THE VSC TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGES IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THE CAR SHAKES PROFUSELY CAUSING A LOUD BEEPING NOISE, JERK OF THE TRUCK AND ACTS AS THOUGH IT'S NOT GOING TO STOP. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE 2001 TOY SEQUOIA HASN'T BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES. NO FIX TO DATE HELP!!! *TR
AUDIBLE SOUND GOES OFF; TRUCK ABS BRAKES AND PULLES TO THE RIGHT; VSC LIGHT COMES ON AND TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON; GRINDING NOISES COMES FROM FRONT AND MIDDLED OF TRUCK. THIS OCCURED WHILE RIDING HWY I-95S AT 80MPH ON SUNNY DRY DAY. THIS HAS TO HAPPEN MUTIBLE TIMES OVER LAST 5YRS; MILEAGE WHEN IT STARTED WAS 128,000 AND PRESENT HAVE 159,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGED WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECM MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE RESET WHICH FAILED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE INCORRECT BRAKE FLUID WAS USED WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE GASKET LINING TO MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 162,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE VSC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED, THE STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN TO TWENTY SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE YAW SENSOR, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND SKID SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
VSC/TRAC CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH DRY ROAD AT 70 MPH. VEHICLE BEGAN TO LURCH AND BRAKE, HAD TO GUIDE TO SIDE OF ROAD. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. TURNED VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED, VSC OFF LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE, WITH TOYOTA INDICATING THAT VSC COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $1200+. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP FOR INSPECTION AND THEY CONFIRMED THE CORROSION OF THE FRAME NEAR THE REAR TIRES. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. I HAVE A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA THAT HAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION IN THE FRONT SWAYBAR MOUNT AND REAR CROSSMEMBER IN THE FRAME. THIS FAILURE IS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURES SEEN IN 2000-2003 TOYOTA TUNDRAS THAT RESULTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000. AS A RESULT OF THIS, TOYOTA RECALLED MODEL YEAR 2000-2003 TUNDRA VEHICLES DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER THAT MAY CAUSE THE SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE. THE 2000-2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VEHICLES SHARE IDENTICAL FRAME CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE TIRE MOUNTING ARRANGEMENTS IN WHICH EXCESSIVE CORROSION IN THE REAR CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE TIRE MOUNTING LOCATION CAN CAUSE SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE STOWED UNDER THE REAR CARGO LOAD FLOOR WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A ROAD HAZARD. THIS SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE OR MOUNTING BRACKET COULD CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER COULD AFFECT THE REAR BRAKE LINES AND THE PROPORTIONING VALVE, RESULTING IN DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPABILITY. ANY SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE AND/OR DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPABILITY COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF CRASH TO AFFECTED VEHICLE AND/OR A ROAD HAZARD TO THOSE TRAVELING NEARBY. VEHICLE WAS MAKING A NOISE AND VIBRATION IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE. TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER IN GREENFIELD, MA. TECH TEST DROVE AND INSPECTED CAR. EXCESSIVE RUST WAS FOUND IN THE REAR LEFT SUSPENSION ATTACHMENT TO THE FRAME. IT WAS SEPARATED BY 1 1/2 INCHES. SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED CAR IS UNSAFE FOR DRIVING. COULD HAVE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. EXCESSIVE RUST WAS FOUND ON THE REST OF THE FRAME. VEHICLE IS AT DEALER WAITING FOR RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA. TOYOTA SAYS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS AUTO. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS A LARGE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE SUB-FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THEY ALSO ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS RUST ON THE SUB-FRAME, BUT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 131,000. UPDATED 11/23/11 *BF THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE CORROSION WAS A 100% CONSISTENT WITH THE SAME CORROSION AREAS OF THE TOYOTA TUNDRA. UPDATED 03/13/12
2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. VSC TRAC/VSC OFF SKID CONTROL LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATE. VEHICLE SHUTTERS AGGRESSIVELY AND DECELERATES SUDDENLY (OCCURRED AT LEAST 8 TIMES BETWEEN 65 AND 45 MPH). VEHICLE BECOMES VERY UNSTABLE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL UNTIL FULL STOP. UNSAFE TO OPERATE!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED WITH RUST ON THE REAR END OF THE FRAME AND SPREADING TO THE FRONT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF THE RUST PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RUST, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID SHOW ANY SIGNS NOR DID IT MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 167,913. UPDATED EVOQ 04/12/11.
COMPONENT: STRUCTURE, FRAME. TOOK OUR CAR TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION. WE WERE TOTALLY UNPREPARED FOR THIS SHOCKING NEWS: IT WOULD NEVER PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE THE FRAME UNDERNEATH IS RUSTED AND HAS A HOLE THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL IN THE REAR PORTION NEAR THE SPARE TIRE. NOT ONLY DO WE SUDDENLY NOT HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE, IT'S WORTH HAS TOTALLY DROPPED TO ZERO. SHOULD THIS BE UNDER TOYOTA'S RECALL FOR TACOMAS WITH THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM? WE JUST RETURNED FROM A 1500 MILE TRIP AND I SHUDDER TO THINK OF WHAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED .
2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA REAR TRUNK LATCH BROKEN. APPARENTLY THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE SEQUOIA. ONCE LATCH IS BROKEN, REAR TRUNK CAN NOT BE OPENED. YOU CAN NOT OPEN IT FROM THE INTERIOR SINCE THERE IS NOT MECHANISM TO DO SO. COST TO REPLACE THE BROKEN LATCH IS COSTLY TO CONSUMERS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR SEQUOIA, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY COMPLAINTS. I DID A WEB SEARCH AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS WHO HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. THEREFORE, IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL. BAD DESIGN AND CHEAP MATERIAL USED BY TOYOTA. FAR AS SAFETY, YOU CAN NOT HAVE ANY PASSENGERS IN THE THIRD ROW SINCE THE BROKEN LATCH DOES NOT PERMIT OPENING OPERATION SHOULD ONE NEED TO GET THOSE PASSENGERS OUT. DIFFIDENTLY A SAFETY HAZARD AND POTENTIAL ENTRAPMENT FOR THOSE IN THE REAR SEATS. PART IS AVAILABLE AT A MODEST COST, BUT HAVING DEALING INSTALL IS COSTLY. *TR
2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. ATTORNEY WRITES ON BEHALF OF CLIENTS IN REGARDS TO FRAME CORROSION *TGW THE DEALER PERFORMED A 21 POINT INSPECTION AND NOTICED TWO HOLES CAUSED BY THE CORROSION ON THE FRAME, ONE IN THE REAR AND THE OTHER IN THE FRONT. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES TO HAVE THE LATCH REPLACED IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. *JB
TOOK THE SEQUOIA TO THE BODY SHOP FOR MINOR REPAIR - THE BODY OF THE CAR LOOKS ALMOST NEW - NO RUST - A VEHICLE TO BE PROUD OF... BUT... THE REPAIR MAN CALLED ME AND SOUNDED VERY CONCERNED. JUST LIKE TACOMAS AND TUNDRAS, THIS VEHICLE HAS SOME OF THE WORST FRAME RUSTING HE HAS SEEN ON A VEHICLE ITS AGE - ESPECIALLY FOR THE LACK OF RUST ELSEWHERE. TOLD ME HE HOPED IT WAS ALL PAID FOR BECAUSE I SHOULD JUNK IT. 10K FOR A NEW FRAME AND THE CAR IS WORTH LESS THAN 9K. I TOLD HIM I STILL OWED 8 THOUSAND ON IT. HE SAID TO CALL TOYOTA. SAID HE WORKS ON 20 YEAR OLD TRUCKS ALL THE TIME WITH NOWHERE NEAR THIS TYPE OF FRAME RUST. KEPT REMARKING HOW HE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT... SAID IT JUST FLAKES APART WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. HE STRESSED THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THAT VEHICLE. MY FAMILY VEHICLE. I CALLED TOYOTA COMPLAINTS DEPT. THE REP TOLD ME HE WAS THE SENIOR REP THERE AND THAT HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING ON A SEQUOIA. TOLD ME THAT LOTS OF TRUCKS OF ALL MAKES HAVE FRAME RUST PROBLEMS. HE EXPLAINED THAT HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID TO THE VEHICLE - WHETHER HE DID ANY UNDERBODY MAINTENANCE (HE SUGGESTED THAT CAR OWNERS GENERALLY RINSE THE UNDERCARRIAGE AFTER DRIVING IN THE SNOW). HE EVEN SUGGESTED THAT "..FOR ALL WE KNOW, THIS VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A FLOOD." DOES A FLOOD CAUSE AGGRESSIVE FRAME RUST BUT LEAVE THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IN MINT SHAPE? SAID THERE WERE NO "PROGRAMS" FOR ME AT THIS TIME AND SUGGESTED I CALL NHTSA. II HAD TO ASK - WILL NHTSA WILL HELP ME BUY A VEHICLE TO DRIVE MY KIDS TO THEIR FUNCTIONS WITHOUT RISKING THEIR LIVES? BECAUSE RIGHT NOW, I CANT AFFORD ANYTHING ELSE. I HAVE A LOAN ON THIS CAR. CALLING TOYOTA WAS 100 PERCENT POINTLESS. *TR
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. I GOT MY SEQUOIA BRAND NEW AND NOW HAS OVER 88,000 MILES. MY SEQUOIA BEGAN TO GIVE ME TROUBLE ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO EVERYTIME I TRIED TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. THE GEAR FELT TIGHT ALMOST DIFFICULT TO PUT INTO GEAR. ON A RECENT TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO, I BEGAN TO ALSO NOTICE A "BUZZING" SOUND ON THE GAS PEDAL. AS I WAS DRIVING UP THE GRAPEVINE ON INTERSTATE 5, MY TRANSMISSION "POPPED" AND I HAD NO POWER. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE DRIVE PIN BROKE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGED TO THE TRANSMISSION. AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED MY WIFE AND TWO YOUNG KIDS WERE WITH ME. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY WE DID NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS MAJOR BREAKDOWN. I HAVE COME TO RELY ON MY VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN REALLY GOOD AT KEEPING IT TUNED AND GETTING THE REQUIRED SERVICES TO KEEP MY CAR IN SHAPE. MY CONCERN IS, HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE WHO OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA? IF NOT, CAN IT HAPPEN AGAIN? THANKS NHTSA.
I AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ON MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. UNEXPECTEDLY, SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS, THE TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATES AND CAN SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT STEERING AND BRAKING WHILE DRIVING DUE TO STRONG GRINDING FEELING DURING THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGEMENT. AGAIN, THIS ACTIVATION HAS NO APPARENT CAUSE AS IT OCCURS ON FLAT DRY PAVEMENT AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. LUCKILY, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DESPITE THE SIGNIFICANT EFFECT THIS ENGAGEMENT HAS ON THE VEHICLE. AT A MINIMUM, THERE SHOULD BE A LONGER DELAY BETWEEN AN INITIAL WARNING LIGHT AND THE ACTUAL ENGAGEMENT OF THE SYSTEM. THERE IS NO TIME TO REACT WITH THE CURRENT DESIGN. ON MY SECOND TRIP TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED. DURING MY FIRST VISIT, THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AFTER PLUGGING THE CAR INTO THEIR COMPUTERS. I PAID THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND HOPED IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. OF COURSE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK LATER (DECEMBER 22, 2010 TO BE PRECISE). I'M CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE PART (YAW RATE SENSOR) TO COME IN AS I MUST GET THE VEHICLE FIXED. *TR
2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VSC TRACTION INADVERTENTLY TURNED ON WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT AWAY HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY PULL TO THE RIGHT, ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH. LUCKILY I PULLED THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAR BACK INTO MY LANE AND THEN EXITED AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED A TERRIBLE CRASH AND ROLLOVER. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE FOR ME AND THE 7 WITNESSES IN MY CAR!!!!! *TR
HAD VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS ROTTED AND HAD A WHOLE THE SIZE OF 2 FINGERS. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME FRAME AS THE 2001 TOYOTA TUNDRA WHICH WAS RECALLED BY TOYOTA DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUSTING. I CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO CURRENT RECALLS OR FIXES FOR THIS VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE AS THE TUNDRA WHICH CAN CAUSE THE UNDERNEATH SPARE TIRE TO DISLODGE DURING OPERATION.
WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED THE TWO WARNING LIGHTS CONCERNING THE TRAC CONTROL ON THE THE DASH COMES ON AND BEEPS SEVERAL TIMES, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BRAKES AND PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT TEMPORARILY LOSING CONTROL. ALL THIS HAPPENS IN A SPLIT SECOND WITH NO WARNING. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH MY SAFETY ALONG WITH MY FAMILIES AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD CONCERNING THIS SAFETY DEFECT.
DRIVING ON DRY ASPHALT PAVING AT 65 TO 70 MPH, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM LIGHT FLASHED AND THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE ABRUPTLY APPLIED TO THE RIGHT SIDE FOR A MATTER OF 2 TO 3 SECONDS. THIS OCCURRED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES (TWICE NOVEMBER 20, 2010 AND ONCE NOVEMBER 27, 2010). VSC AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF UNTIL VEHICLE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED. ALSO APPEARS THAT TRAC OFF BUTTON DOES NOT WORK EFFECTIVELY TO TURN TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OFF ON DEMAND. *TR
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 LIMITED 4X4. SINCE NEW THIS SEQUOIAS VSC TRAC LIGHT WOULD SOMETIMES COME ON THEN RESET ITSELF WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. LAST WEEK WITH 62,000+ MILES ON THE ODOMETER I EXPERIENCED A FRIGHTENING EVENT. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH ON A DRY CLEAR ROADWAY WHEN ALL OFF A SUDDEN THE "VSC TRAC" LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AN ICON OF A VEHICLE SKIDDING STARTED FLASHING ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD BEEPING NOISE. THE SCARY PART WAS THAT THE SEQUOIA STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHICH COULD BE HEARD AND FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE BRAKES ALSO HAD LOST SOME OF ITS STOPPING POWER WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO PULL OVER. I INITIALLY THOUGHT I HAD A RIGHT FRONT FLAT TIRE OR I RAN OVER SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUGHT IN MY UNDERCARRIAGE OR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. AFTER WHAT SEEMED TO BE APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS THE BEEPING NOISE STOPPED AND THE VEHICLES "VSC TRAC" AND "VSC OFF" LIGHTS STAYED ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND I REGAINED CONTROL OF THE SEQUOIA. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE OUTSIDE OF THE SEQUOIA AND FOUND NO DAMAGE. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE WITH THE VSC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF EVERYTHING RESET AND THE LIGHTS WERE OFF UNTIL THE SAME EXACT INCIDENT OCCURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY. IT WAS GOOD THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES ON MY RIGHT SIDE BECAUSE THERE MAY OF BEEN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE VIOLENT PULL TO THE RIGHT WHEN THE ABOVE CONDITION OCCURS. AFTER ABOUT 4 YEARS I NOTICED RUST UNDER IT AND EVERY TIME I TOOK IT FOR ANY SERVICE THEY REPORTED RUST. LAST WEEK THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING LEAKED AND I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA TO GET A REPAIR ESTIMATE. THEY COMMENTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HEAVILY CORRODED (RUSTED) TO THE POINT THAT EVEN IF THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING WAS REPLACED THAT THE SUV WOULD BE VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS THE RUST WAS EVERYWHERE UNDERNEATH. THEREFORE I DECIDED NOT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED SINCE THE COST TO MAKE IT SAFE ENOUGH TO DRIVE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN REPLACING THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING THAT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT WITH HOLES IN IT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TWO HOURS INTO A TRIP WHILE GOING 70 MPH ON STRAIGHT, FLAT DRY ROAD OUTSIDE OF SAN ANTONIO, THE VSC ALARM SOUNDED AND I SUDDENLY SEEMED TO LOSE CONTROL OF SUV AND POWER. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND HAVE THEM EVALUATE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF IT IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME DEFECT AS THE OTHER MODELS TO WHICH THEY HAVE REFUSED??!! I BELIEVE CERTAIN SEQUOIA'S SHARE THE SAME ISSUE HOWEVER TOYOTA IS NOT FORTHCOMING ON ADMITTING THIS NOR ARE THEY EVEN WILLING TO EVALUATE THE VEHICLE. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE, BODY, INTERIOR ETC, IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED. I AM NOT ENTERING THIS COMPLAINT AS I STUMBLED OVER SEVERAL OTHER 2001 SEQUOIA OWNER WHO ARE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. THIS, IN MY OPINION, CONFIRMS MY ORIGINAL SUSPICION THAT IT IS RELATED TO THE TUNDRA/TACOMA RECALL AND TOYOTA IS NOT WILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ISSUE. *TR
