MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 199000 MILES WILL APPLY THE ABS TO THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AND THEN DISABLE THE VCS SYSTEM. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AND HAS FORCED ME OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND THE COMPUTER CODE WAS A BAD YAW SENSOR. THE MECHANIC VERIFIED THE SENSOR WAS GOOD AS WAS THE WIRING. I'M TOLD THE VSC COMPUTER MAY BE BAD. *TR
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. ON 5/21/10, THE RIGHT FRONT BALL BEARINGS FAILED. THE BRAKE LINE SNAPPED AND THE WHEEL FELL UNDER THE CAR. LUCKILY MY WIFE HAD JUST TURNED ONTO A ROAD AND WAS GOING AT A SLOW SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE - ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE IS 8 MONTHS PREGNANT. THIS SEEMS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH PROBLEMS THAT LED TO A RECALL OF THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE FOR 2004-2007. TOYOTA SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. IT SEEMED IMPORTANT TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THIS AS I AM CERTAIN THAT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT IS ESPECIALLY DISCONCERTING THAT THIS SAME ISSUE WAS FOUND IN LATER MODELS OF THE SAME VEHICLE. *TR
THURSDAY MAY 20TH 2001 BALL JOINT FAILED ON LEFT FRONT, DOING 35MPH. WHEEL CAME OFF. RECALL STARTING WITH SEQUOIAS MANUFACTURED AUGUST 2001. MINE WAS MANUFACTURED MAY 2001. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL SO THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT AND THE DEALER WANTS $4800 FOR THE REPAIRS. THEY CITED ON THE ESTIMATE THAT REASON FOR FAILURE IS "UNKNOWN". THEY STATED THE RIGHT SIDE BALL JOINT IS FINE BUT THEY SUGGEST REPLACING IT FOR ANOTHER $500. I WAS COULD HAVE HAD A CAR FULL OF TEENAGERS GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT THE TIME, MY DAUGHTER WANTED ME TO DRIVE CARPOOL FOR A FIELD TRIP, LUCKILY I COULDN'T DRIVE FOR THEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA (SUV). I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC OVER THE WEEKEND TO HAVE THE BRAKES FIXED. THE MECHANIC WARNED ME THAT THE CAR FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT AND NOT STRUCTURALLY SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS CAR WAS BUILT ON A TUNDRA FRAME WHICH HAD A STRUCTURAL RECALL (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE09049) FOR FRAMES BUILT IN 2000 AND 2001. I HAVE A DAUGHTER AND PREGNANT WIFE AND THIS CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA (CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE) AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I DON'T WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO BE AT RISK OF DANGER. MY NUMBER IS [XXX] IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS COMING ON AND THEN THE SKID CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON FORCING CAUSING POWER TO GO OUT WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHEN IT COOLED OFF, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT A LITTLE FARTHER. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS THE YAW RATE SENSOR AND IT WILL COST $670.89 TO REPAIR. BUT I HAVE BEEN READING IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. THEY JUST HAVE NOT COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. *TR
HAVING ISSUES WITH STOPPING A 2001 SEQUOIA DUE TO UNDERSIZED BRAKING EQUIPMENT. THE ISSUE IS WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED THE SEQUOIAS TIRES AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKE EXCESSIVELY. I HAVE REPLACED THE PADS AND HAD THE ROTORS TURNED. THIS IS KNOW ISSUE WITH THE SEQUOIA FOR TOYOTA. TSB ISSUE AND BRAKING SYSTEM FIXED AS LONG AS THE CAR IS UNDER 36000 MILES THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ALL DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE NEAR MISSES DUE TO THE INCONSISTENT BREAKING. WHILE AT DEALERSHIP (TOYOTA OF CONCORDE IN NC THEY WILL NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE TS"S ARE OUT THERE. IT IS AN ONGOING SAFETY ISSUE THAT WHEN COUPLED WITH ISSUES WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL THAT IS GOING TO SERIOUSLY INJURE OR KILL PEOPLE. AS STATED THE BRAKE ISSUE HAS CAUSE NEAR MISSES IN OUR SUV AND OTHER. *TR
I TOOK MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA TO BE INSPECTED TODAY. WHEN THE MECHANIC LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK, HE SAW THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND SAID THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS SO RUSTED THAT THE TIRE MIGHT FALL OFF. I CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY COMPLAINTS. CLEARLY, OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND I HOPE THAT TOYOTA LOOKS INTO THIS ISSUE WITH THE FRAME ON THE 2001 SEQUOIA IMMEDIATELY. *TR
FRONT BRAKE AND ROTORS ARE INEFFICIENT AND WEAR EXCESSIVELY CAUSING THE FRONT END TO VIBRATE AND PULSE UNDER BRAKING. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS VIBRATION IS A DECREASE IN THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ABS SYSTEM AND OVERALL BRAKING. TOYOTA HAS IDENTIFIED THIS AS A PROBLEM IN TSB BR005-02. I HAVE REPLACED ROTORS AND PADS EVERY TWO YEARS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA FIXED THE PROBLEM IN NEWER MODEL YEARS BY ADDING LARGER ROTORS AND BETTER CALIPERS, BUT HAS IGNORED THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2001 TOY SEQUOIA BEGAN HAVING MALFUNCTIONING PROBLEMS WITH THE VSC TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IN APRIL 5, 2010. THE VSC TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGES IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING THE CAR NO MATTER WHAT SPEED. THE CAR BEEPS LOUDLY, SHAKES, JERKS AND ACTS AS THOUGH IT DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.THEY SAY THAT THEY HAVE NO FIX FOR THE 2003 EITHER.THERE ARE MULTIPLE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON THE 2001 TOY SEQUOIA FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA REFUSES TO INCLUDE THE 2001 TOY SEQ IN THE RECALL. THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2001 TRACTION PROBLEM. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN"D FIND ANYTHING WRONG, HOWEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WAS ON RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ON THE FOURTH TIME, THEY TRIED TO SAY THAT REPLACING A CHIP MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. NOT GUARANTEED. WANTED TO CHARGE $1,000 TO ORDER AND INSTALL THE PART. *TR
VSC/TRAC LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA - APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WITH THE STABILIZATION COMPUTER POSSIBLY GOING OUT. *TR
THE VSC AND OTHER LIGHTS IN DASH LIGHT UP AND HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLES BRAKES TO ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING. ITS PULLS THE STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY TO THE TO LEFT. IT HAPPENS AT HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER AND THE COST TO REPLACE IT IS 1,200 DOLLARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY DECELERATED TO SPEEDS OF 5 MPH WITHOUT WARRANT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL EXHIBITED UNKNOWN SIGNS OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA YAW SENSOR FAILED WHILE ON I95, CAUSING A LOUD WARNING BUZZER, THE VSC WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD STARTED FLASHING, TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED, BRAKES WERE UNABLE TO QUICKLY SLOW THE SUV AND A LOUD GRINDING NOISE UNTIL THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP. WE HAD TO PAY TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE YAW SENSOR, THE SECOND TIME SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2001. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS IN 2003/4. WE HAVE DOCUMENTED OVER TEN COMPLAINTS TO DEALER SINCE PURCHASE THAT VSC LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF AFTER STARTING TRUCK. *TR
VSC, ABS, TRAC, AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ALL ON CONSTANTLY. WHEN FIRST OBSERVED, ONLY OCCURRED DURING COLD WEATHER. LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON WHEN WEATHER AND CAR WAS WARM. STARTING 2010, THESE WARNING LIGHTS HAVE CONSTANTLY BEEN ON. TOYOTA DEALER SEEMED UNSURE OF PROBLEM, BUT SUSPECTED THAT VSC COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2500. *TR
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AND HAVE JUST BEEN ADVISED BY MY LOCAL DEALER THAT THE FRAME IS RUSTED AND THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE 01 SEQUOIA IS BUILT ON THE SAME FRAME AS THE 2001 TUNDRA YET TOYOTA IS WILLING TO DO NOTHING FOR ME. THEY ARE PUTTING TUNDRA OWNERS IN RENTAL CARS AND REIMBURSING THEM, WHY NOT THE SEQUOIA. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE MY CAR EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN DEEMED UNSAFE. I SHOULD THINK THAT TOYOTA WOULD WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THIS BEFORE IT BECOMES A REAL PROBLEM. *TR
I TOOK MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FOR SOME MINOR SERVICE AND THE TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME THEY CHECKED MY FRAME (REPORTEDLY BECAUSE TOYOTA TOLD THEM TO BE CHECKING TUNDRA AND SEQUOIA FRAMES ON 2000/2001 VEHICLES) AND THEY FOUND RUST THROUGH THE FRAME AND THEY FOUND CORROSION OF THE SPARE TIRE SUPPORT SYSTEM. THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER PASS INSPECTION NEXT TIME I NEEDED IT INSPECTED AND THEY SAID WHILE IT IS NOT AN IMMINENT SAFETY PROBLEM, IT WILL BECOME ONE WITH MORE CORROSION. THEY ARRANGED FOR A FACTORY REP TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND HE CONFIRMED THE DEALERS FINDINGS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS IS AN EMERGING PROBLEM AND TOYOTA IS IN THE PROCESS OF DECIDING WHAT DO ABOUT IT. I WAS GIVEN A CASE # AND WAS TOLD TOYOTA WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITH THEIR PLAN OF ACTION. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS, I HEARD BACK FORM TOYOTA TODAY TELLING ME THAT WHILE I DO HAVE A FRAME CORROSION PROBLEM , LIKE WAS EXPERIENCED ON THE TACOMA AND TUNDRA, AND WHILE THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE,TOYOTA HAS NO PLANS TO DO ANYTHING FOR THE SEQUOIA CUSTOMERS. IN OTHER WORDS, I HAVE A PROBLEM BUT IT MY PROBLEM ALONE. TOYOTA'S FAILURE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAYS AND WILL RENDER MY VEHICLE USELESS. *TR
THE THROTTLE STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY MAINTAINING 65 MPH. THE VSC AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. THERE WAS SUDDENLY NO ACCELERATION AND RESPONSE FROM THE PEDAL SO WE CAME TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE STILL ON. I HAD A NEAR COLLISION WHEN THIS HAPPENED A WEEK PRIOR IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND THE ACCELERATION WAS LOST. THIS IS FIXED TEMPORARILY BY TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN 5 MINUTES LATER. I HAD TO GET THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THIS HAPPENED AT 85,000 MILES. THIS HAPPENED WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AT 48,000 MILES 3 YEARS AGO AND THEY SEEMED TO FIX IT BY CLEANING THE THROTTLE CONTROL SENSOR REALLY GOOD. I'VE SEEN REPORTS OF OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS AS WELL ON LINE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM...THANK GOD WE ARE STILL ALIVE! *TR
TOYOTA LOSES POWER W/O WARNING. VSC/TRAC LIGHTS ON...AS WELL AS ABS AND CHECK ENGINE. VERY DANGEROUS...AFTER RESEARCHING, LOOKS LIKE IT'S SUPER COMMON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VSC AND TRACTION LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT, LIMITING ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS NOW UN-DRIVABLE DUE TO A CORRODED FRAME. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A 9 YEAR OLD CAR WOULD HAVE A ROTTED FRAME. I PUT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE SUV FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND RUST PERFORATION AT TWO LOCATIONS BUT THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA HAD NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME AT THIS TIME. *TR
UPON STARTING MY VEHICLE, THE "VSC OFF" AND "TRAC" LIGHTS ON MY DASH COME ON. THIS COULD INDICATE POTENTIAL VSC COMPUTER FAILURE. THE SYSTEM IS TIED IN WITH THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM AND FAILURE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR STATE INSPECTION, WAS TOLD THAT FRAME WILL PROBABLY NOT PASS NEXT YEAR. SEVERE FRAME RUST IN (DOCUMENTED BY DEALER) LEAVES ME CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO TOW WITH. ALL FRAME COATING HAS FAILED AND IS KEEPING WATER AGAINST THE METAL. IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE FROM INSIDE OF BOXED FRAME. VERY CONCERNED SINCE FRAME WAS BUILT AT THE SAME TIME AS DEFECTIVE TUNDRA AND TACOMA FRAMES AND IT IS BASED ON THE TACOMA FRAME.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH FORCE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF A VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OR PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000, TOYOTA RECALLED MODEL YEAR 2000-2003 TUNDRA VEHICLES DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER THAT MAY CAUSE THE SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE. THE 2000-2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VEHICLES SHARE IDENTICAL FRAME CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE TIRE MOUNTING ARRANGEMENTS IN WHICH EXCESSIVE CORROSION IN THE REAR FRAME CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE TIRE MOUNTING LOCATION CAN CAUSE SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE STOWED UNDER THE REAR CARGO LOAD FLOOR WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A ROAD HAZARD. THIS SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE OR MOUNTING BRACKET COULD CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER COULD AFFECT THE REAR BRAKE LINES AND THE PROPORTIONING VALVE, RESULTING IN DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPABILITY. ANY SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE AND/OR DIMINISHED BRAKE CAPACITY COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH TO AFFECTED VEHICLE AND/OR A ROAD HAZARD TO THOSE TRAVELING NEARBY. *TR
APPEARS CARS STABILITY SYSTEM CAME ON WITH APPLICATION OF BRAKES, NOISE ON THE BRAKES. WEATHER WAS CLEAR. VSC, TRACK LIGHT CAME ON. HAPPENS EVERY FEW WEEKS. *TR
WHEN I DRIVE MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA THE VSC SENSOR AND ABS LIGHT GO ON. ECU COMPUTER AND TRACTION FAILURE IN 2001 TOTOTA SEQUOIA. *TR
I HAVE A SEQUOIA WHICH I BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2001. FOR ALL MY SERVICES I TAKE IT TO ATLANTA TOYOTA IN DULUTH, GA. RECENTLY MY VSC TRAC AND VSC OFF SENSOR LIGHT TURNING ON AND OFF AND I'M HEARING GRINDING NOISE WHEN IT AUTO-ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE. MY DEALERSHIP WAS ASKING ABOUT $1300 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE ALL PARTS IN STOCK I'M NOT SURE WHETHER IT IS VSC COMPUTER ($1500), COMPLETE BREAKING SYSTEM, OR YAW RATE SENSOR ($550 + $95 LABOR) SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER MOMENTARILY. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR ME, SINCE I'M SUCH A LOYAL CUSTOMER. I AM SURPRISED AND PRETTY DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SEEN ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE FIRST MODEL YEAR TILL 2005. TOYOTA COULD HAVE FIGURED OUT A PERMANENT FIX BY NOW. MY 2001 SEQUOIA IS EXPERIENCING FALSE SKID INDICATIONS, RESULTING IN SUDDEN, SEVERE APPLICATIONS OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE, WITH NO WARNING. AFTER PURCHASING MY USED SEQUOIA (WITH APPROXIMATELY 121,000 MILES), WE DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE HAD JUST LEFT A PARKING LOT AND DRIVEN LESS THAN ONE-HALF MILE WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE SUDDENLY DID A STRONG APPLY, PULLING THE VEHICLE TOWARD THE RIGHT, OFF THE ROAD, WHILE MAKING A GRINDING SOUND. THE BRAKE APPLY AND THE NOISE LASTED APPROXIMATELY (3) SECONDS, AND THEN THE BRAKE RELEASED AND THE VEHICLE MADE A SERIES OF BEEPS. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE INCIDENT. WE WERE TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON A DRY, SMOOTH ROAD, AT A SPEED OF (25) TO (30) MPH; THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80F. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED A SECOND TIME SEVERAL HOURS LATER ON THE SAME DAY. ALL FACTORS WERE IDENTICAL, EXCEPT WE HAD DRIVEN ABOUT (5) MILES AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. IN EACH CASE, THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TOWARD THE RIGHT, OFF THE ROAD, AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT HAD THERE BEEN AN OBSTACLE THERE (ANOTHER CAR, PEDESTRIAN, ETC). IT WAS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS IN THE AREA WERE CLOSED. WE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ON THIS INCIDENT, AND WERE AMAZED TO FIND MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH MODEL YEARS RANGING FROM 2001 TO 2006, AND WITH NO KNOWN FIX. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP LATER CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY INCIDENT LIKE THIS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS VEHICLE CONDITION I HAVE EVER SEEN. I AM JUSTIFIABLY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN, OR TO DRIVE IN THE VICINITY OF ANY OTHER SEQUOIAS OR TUNDRAS THAT I SEE ON THE ROAD. *TR
MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS EXPERIENCING FALSE SKID INDICATIONS RESULTING IN DANGEROUS APPLICATIONS OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE. THE INDICATIONS ARE ILLUMINATION OF THE SKID SYMBOL, RAPID ANTISKID SERVO ACTION, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE APPLICATION WHICH LAST FROM ONE SECOND TO AS MUCH AS 30 SECONDS. ONCE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE APPLICATION STOPS, THE SKID SYMBOL IS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED AND THE TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. THIS OCCURS IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS AT LOW OR HIGH SPEED, SMOOTH ROAD SURFACES, AND WHETHER GOING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. I HAVE HAD THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONNECT THEIR COMPUTER SEVERAL TIMES TO DETERMINE A CAUSE AND THEY CAN NOT DEFINITIVELY TELL WHAT HAS FAILED. SOMETIMES THEY TELL ME IT COULD BE THE YAW SENSOR OR THE SKID CONTROL ECM, BUT THESE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE PARTS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ABOUT A YEAR. INITIALLY, THE FIRST SIGN OF A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH AND THE THROTTLE WENT TO IDLE AND THE TRAC OFF, VSC TRAC, AND ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. TOYOTA SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE CABLE AND THROTTLE SENSOR AND I PAID THEM TO REPLACE BOTH PARTS. SHORTLY AFTER THIS, THE FALSE SKID FAILURES BEGAN. THE FALSE SKID FAILURES OCCUR RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT WARNING AND RECENTLY, THE FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE HAS INCREASED. *TR
I HAVE A SEQUOIA 2001 LIMITED AND THE VSC TRAC AND OFF LIGHT COME ON AFTER YOU DRIVE FOR A WHILE AND WHEN TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT BACK AGAIN THE LIGHTS GO OFF. IT HAPPENED BEFORE LAST YEAR IN 2008 A FEW COUPLE OF TIMES AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER A EVERY TIME IT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID IT WAS OK. NOW IN 2009 IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS THE CAR WILL SHAKE A BIT AND WOULD MAKE THIS BEEP BEEP SOUND THEN IT LOOSES ACCELERATION AND LOOSES POWER TEMPORARILY AND I CAN NOT SEEM TO APPLY THE BREAKS PROPERLY BEFORE THE VSC TRAC VSC OFF LIGHTS GO ON AND STAY ON. THEN BY TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND ON THE LIGHTS GO OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES. I AM TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT I AM THAT IT MAY CAUSE AND ACCIDENT SINCE IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BREAK. *TR
THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO 40MPH WHILE I WAS DOING 65. MECHANIC SAID THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I ESCAPED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE BRAKES HAD BECAME LOOSED, AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO HANDLE. THE CAR STARTED JERKING, AND ALMOST RAN OVER. I WENT TO LLEHMAN TOYOTA ON 441 NORTH MIAMI BEACH, THEY CHARGED ME 1800 DOLLARS TO FIX THE CENSOR, AND THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY. NOW, THE SAME PROBLEM REPEATS. *TR
THE VSC TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE IN THE RAIN. THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND THE CAR SWERVED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT ALMOST CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER CAR IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT!!! BOTH DASH VSC DASH LIGHTS IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED INDICATING THE VEHICLE NEEDED SERVICE. THE DEALER IS NOW SAYING THAT THE ECU IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 89000 MILES ON IT, THE ECU SHOULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE AT THIS MILEAGE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, IF/WHEN THE ECU DOES BECOME DEFECTIVE IT SHOULD NOT ENGAGE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM CAUSING A CONDITION THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
VSC/TRAC LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR ONE YEAR WITH NO ILL EFFECTS UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN THE VSC SYSTEM ACTIVATED ITSELF TWICE UNDER PERFECTLY NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS BRAKING NORMALLY WHEN THE VSC KICKED ON AND LIMITED MY STOPPING ABILITY. THE SECOND TIME THE VSC ACTIVATED WAS I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH, FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING HARD TO THE RIGHT FORCING ME INTO THE NEXT LANE. FOR THE FEW MOMENTS THIS LASTED I HAD NO CONTROL OVER BRAKING OR STEERING. DEALER HAS YET TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
VSC AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM LIGHTS IN MY 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA COME ON DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND RESTARTS THE ENGINE, THE LIGHTS GOES OFF. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED BACK IN THE SPRING OF 2003 AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE NEW VEHICLE'S 3 YEAR WARRANTY. I TOLD THE DEALER REGARDING THIS PROBLEM DURING MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THEY SAID THEY DID NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND THERE WAS NO CODE RECORDED IN THE COMPUTER. THEY MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS DRIVING AGGRESSIVE AND CAUSE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM WAS ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS TILL LAST MONTH (JULY, 2009) WHEN MY SON WAS DRIVING IN LA FREEWAY. HE WAS FACING THE LOST OF ENGINE POWER AND UNABLE TO SPEED UP WHEN THE VSC AND TRACTION LIGHTS COMES ON. HE HAS TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE CAR LOT SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS "AS IS" AND WE HAD TO DEAL WITH IT. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH, THE "CRUISE CONTROL" LIGHT STARTED COMING ON, BLINKING AT TIMES, THEN IT WOULD TURN OFF FOR A WEEK OR SO, THEN IT WOULD COME ON STEADY AND BLINK AT TIMES FOR DAYS STRAIGHT. ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING THE "BRAKE" LIGHT, "VSC TRAC" LIGHT, "VSC OFF" LIGHT, THE "DOOR AJAR" LIGHT, AND THE "CRUISE" LIGHT ALL CAME ON AND BLINKED RAPIDLY WHILE DRIVING. AFTER PULLING OVER AND TURNING OFF THE CAR AND BACK ON, THEY WERE STILL BLINKING. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON MANY TIMES AND THEY ALL CONTINUED TO BLINK. AFTER GETTING HOME AND LETTING IT SIT OVER NIGHT, THEY DIDN'T COME BACK ON. CURRENTLY THE "VSC TRAC" AND THE "VSC OFF" LIGHT ARE STILL ON. THE "CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT IS ALSO ON. AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND REMOVING THE KEYS THE "KEY" LIGHT STAYS ON, BLINKING NON-STOP AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS STAY ON. SOMETIMES I CAN RESTART THE CAR AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS WILL STAY OFF AFTER REMOVING THE KEYS AND LOCKING THE DOORS. I COULDN'T GET THEM OFF LAST WEEKEND AND TRIED EVERYTHING, FINALLY THE BATTERY DIED, AFTER I GOT A JUMP START, THEY TURNED OFF. WE CONTINUOUSLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE DASH BOARD INDICATOR LIGHTS AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS STAYING ON TW*
THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE SYSTEM TURNS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. FRONT TO BACK, SIDE TO SIDE. THE RUST HAS SPREAD TO THE SPARE AND I FEAR THE SPARE COULD ONE DAY FALL OFF AND CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO VEHICLES AND HUMANS. OUR SEQUOIA WAS BOUGHT NEW WITH ONLY 14 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME.
