TRUCK FRAME ROTTED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, A RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO WORK. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT CHECKED UNDERNEATH AND FOUND THAT THE RACK AND PINION BRACKET WAS FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER (BAY RIDGE TOYOTA IN BAY RIDGE, NEW YORK, 718-439-3737) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PART OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND THE RACK AND PINION BRACKET WAS DETACHED FROM THE ACTUAL FRAME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS REPLACED IN MARCH OF 2013 BY THE SAME DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 194,000.
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED 4X4 FAILED MASSACHUSETTS INSPECTION THIS MONTH FOR A SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME WITH SEVERE PERFORATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE REAR SUSPENSION AND TRAILING ARMS MAY BREAK OFF AT ANY TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED AND HAD A COATING APPLIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO - THIS ONLY MASKED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS GARAGED. THE ENGINE AND BODY OF THE VEHICLE ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE VEHICLE HAS 300,000 MILES AND RUNS WELL. THE TOYOTA DEALER DEEMED THE VEHICLE "NOT REPAIRABLE." THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO DEEMED UNSAFE AND ADVISED TO TAKE OFF THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY PULLED TO THE LEFT. IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE WARNING INDICATORS WERE NOT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE DEALER (TOYOTA OF THE SHOALS, S 5100, US-43, TUSCUMBIA, AL 35674) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V176000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.
MY 2003 SEQUOIA FAILED INSPECTION IN STATE OF PENN FOR SEVER FRAME RUST AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM EXPIREED IN 2014 AND THEY ARE NO LONGER DOING ANYTHING TO SERVICE THIS PROBLEM. I AM CURRENTLY AT 180K MILES AND VEHICLES LIKE TO SHOULD LAST LOT LONGER.
I TOOK MY SEQUOIA TO THE DEALER FOR IT'S REGULAR SERVICE. I WAS CALLED AND TOLD THAT THERE IS A 50 CENT SIZE HOLE IN MY FRAME (PASSAGER SIDE) I WAS TOLD TOYOTA HAD A NIGHT MARE WITH MANY OF THERE SEQUOIAS HAVING HAD THE FRAME REPLACED. HE SAID ACCORDING TO TOYOTA MINE WAS RECALLED AND SPRAYED WITH SOME TYPE OF SPRAY OVER THE ENTIRE FRAME. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND I HAD IT DURING THE TIME HE REFERENCED AND TOYOTA NEVER CONTACTED ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE,NOR DID THEY SPRAY IT. FOR IF THEY DID YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL IT ALL OVER THE UNDER-BODY BECAUSE OF THE OVER SPRAY. THERE IN NOTHING UNDER THE BODY EXCEPT A RUSTED FAULTY FRAME. I CONTACTED TOYOTA THEY SAID THE SAME AS THE DEALER AND THAT IF MY SUV HAD BEEN A YEAR NEWER THEY WOULD PUT A NEW FRAME ON IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY USE THE EXACT SAME FRAME. TOYOTA KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING HERE.

EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. UNABLE TO PASS INSPECTION. 135K MILES. MANY OTHER 1ST GENERATION SEQUOIA OWNERS WITH SAME ISSUE. 2ND GENERATION SEQUOIAS RECALLED FOR SAME ISSUE. TOYOTA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY UNDERCOATING SOLUTION IS A SCAM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE CONTACT REGAINED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER (FRONTIER TOYOTA, 23621 CREEKSIDE RD, VALENCIA, CA 91355), BUT NO FAILURE COULD BE FOUND AND THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TO BE IN GOOD STANDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST ELEVEN YEARS REGARDING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ILLUMINATION AND THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
I JUST PURCHASED CAR. TRIED TO PUT CAR ON LIFT FOR NEW TIRES. AT FLYNN'S TIRE FOUND OUT FRAME IS RUSTED OUT BEHIND FRONT WHEELS. ABOUT 3 FT. ON BOTH SIDES . IT WAS COVERED UP WITH DUCT TAPE , BODY PUTTY, THEN PAINTED SO IT WOULD NOT BE NOTICED. NO PICTURES TAKEN
FRAME DEVELOPED 14MM RUST PERFORATION AT TRANSMISSION SUPPORT CROSS MEMBER DESPITE CORROSION RESISTANCE COMPOUND BEING APPLIED AS PART OF LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN BY THE MANUFACTURER. WEAKER FRAME REDUCES THE STRUCTURAL RIGIDITY AND COMPROMISES SAFETY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. SUDDEN FRAME FRACTURE MAY ALSO LEAD TO A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
VSC, VSC TRACTION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAY ON. NO OTHER PROBLEM TO DRIVE. LIGHTS SEEN FROM 89000 MILE. CHANGED BRAKE SYSTEM ON 75000 MILE INCLUDING ROUTER AND WORKS FINE.
I LIVE IN NORTHERN KY AND I WAS DRIVING WEST ON KY 20.I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE PULLS RIGHT AND THE BACK PULLS LEFT .WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE TO SAFELY STOP I NOTICED THE REAR FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BROKE IN HALF. IT BROKE BECAUSE IT RUSTED IN HALF.THIS COULD OF KILLED ME.LUCKILY NO ONE WAS COMING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RD. MY MECHANIC SAID THE FRAME RUSTED IN HALF. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2015 IM THE SECOND OWNER. I PAID 6000 FOR THE TRUCK PUT 1200 IN NEW WHEELS AND ANOTHER 2400 IN SAFETY AND PREVENTITIVE MAINTIENCE AT TOYOTA. I WOULD NOT EXSPECT THIS TO OCCURE.ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTED. NO MY OPTIONS ARE TO REPLACE THE FRAME OR JUNK THE VEHICLE.EITHER WAY IM OUT BIG MONEY ON A TRUCK I LOVE.I THANK GOD MY GREAT NEICES AND NEPHEW WAS NOT IN THE TRUCK WHEN THE FRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE.THEY WERE IN THERE THE DAY BEFORE.IM BLESSED WE DIDNT GET HURT THAT COULD HAVE WENT VERY BAD.I BELIEVE IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE I WOULD HAVE GOT HURT OR EVEN KILLED.THIS VEHICLE RUSTING OUT THAT BAD IS NOT SAFE.IVE NOTICED MANAY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE FRAME RUSTING OUT TOO. FRAME IS ROTTED SO BAD THAT AXLE ROD SEPERATED FROM THE FRAME. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT HOME AS IT IS EXTREAMILY UNSAFE. REAR AXLE COULD FALL OFF THE VEHICLE. FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC FOR TIRE SERVICE
THE VEHICLE WAS SENT INTO TOYOTA WHEN WE RECEIVED A LETTER TO HAVE THE FRAME SPRAYED ,DUE TO LIVING IN COLD CLIMATE WHERE SALT WAS USED TO TREAT ROADS. NOW FRAME IS TOTALLY ROTTED AND RUSTED MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TOYOTA IS ONLY REPLACING THEIR TACOMAS AND NOT THE SEQUOIA FROM THE SAME YEAR.
SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND A MAJOR PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT OTHER YEARS AND MODELS AS WELL THE PAINT BUBBLING AND COMING OFF THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY HOOD AREA AND TOP OF VEHICLE, HAS TO BE BAD PAINT TOYOTA IS USING
DEFECTIVE ABS SYSTEM SINCE INITIAL PURCHASE. AT FIRST, AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT NOW A SAFETY HAZARD. BRAKE LIGHT, VSC LIGHT &TRAC LIGHT CONSTANTLY ARE ON & NOW ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS GOING ONLY 10 MPH BRAKES ARE AFFECTED WHERE THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE & BRAKES DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD THE YAW SENSOR WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS COSTING $880, BUT IT DIDN'T; NOW ITS THE SKID CONTROL ANOTHER $875 WHICH I AGREED TO & WHEN CALLING TO GET STATUS OF MY CAR, I'M TOLD IT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE & NOW IT'S THE BOOSTER ANOTHER $1,000 WHICH I'M NOT PAYING. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS ISSUE MAKES IT A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE. MY CAR IS STILL SITTING IN THE SHOP AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT.
TOYOTA INITIALLY INSPECTED THE FRAME FOR RUST AND ONLY SPRAYED RUSTPROOFING WHICH CAME OFF AFTER A SINGLE SEASON. THE FRAME IS NOW COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND UNSAFE

VSC/TRAC LIGHTS HAVE COME ON . I STILL DRIVE THE CAR ,IT WAS HAPPEN 3RD TIMES . I WENT TO LOCAL MECHANIC BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF GUARANTEE .
TAILGATE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN PREVENTING ME FROM GETTING ITEMS OUT OFF THE CARGO AREA.
THE TRAC LIGHT AND VSC LIGHT ARE ON WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS AT LEAST EVERY 3 MONTHS SINCE THIS HAS OCCURRED. I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND THE TRUCK SOMEWHAT DECELERATED TO ALMOST AN SUDDEN STOP AND THOSE TWO ABOVE LIGHT ENGAGED AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THESE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON SINCE JULY 2017. I HAVE CALLED THE TOYATO RECALL CENTER AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS LISTED FOR THIS VEHICLE'S VIN NUMBER. THE TOYATO DEALDHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME 114.00 FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHICH RIGHT NOW I CAN NOT AFFORD. I AM PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE USED AND I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT ON AND EVERY TIME I HAVE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED IT'S ABOT $365.00 A POP. PLEASE ADVISE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND IT A VERY COME DEFECT ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IT NEEDS TO BE AROUND BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AND COSTS SOMEONE THEIR LIFE OR OTHERS THEIR LIVES.
Abnormal rust all over underside of vehicle including frame, structural components, brake lines, steering components … etc. FRAME and steering/suspension components rusting out. Rear differential rusting out. Cab mounts rusting out. Spare tire hardware rusting out. Transmission cooler lines about to burst from corrosion. Rear tow assembly rusting out. Entire underside is rotting out. Known issue which has plagued hundreds of owners, but Toyota has not recalled this model year. Extremely dangerous; one brake line has already gone out resulting in a loss of braking. Toyota applied an undercoating circa 2013 but they just sprayed over an already rusted frame and other components without proper preparation which actually accelerated the corrosion and rot. Deceptive and unethical business practices. Vehicle cost over $50,000 new in 2003 and only has just over 120,000 miles on it. This should NOT be happening. Please help. Please investigate.
Once again the rear latch system has failed and I am unable to open my rear hatch door. So I am unable to remove my spare tire. And can not acsess the failed charcoal canister Toyota is screwing up my life with all their failed parts preventing repair on other parts

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-481-7948 AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE UNDER THE YEAR 2008 MODEL TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,735.
MY TRUCK WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AT APPROX 55 MPH TRUCK HIT CENTER MEDIAN WALL HEAD ON, DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. PASSENGER SIDE DID DEPLOY. PASSENGER SIDE WAS PART OF RECALL THAT WAS INSPECTED AND CORRECTED.
OUR VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE BY A TOYOTA DEALER DUE TO AN EXCESSIVELY RUSTED FRAME THAT HAS PREMATURELY LOST ITS INTEGRITY. THE "LIMITED SERVICE" CAMPAIGN THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED BY TOYOTA ON OUR CAR (1/9/2013) WAS INEFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THE FRAME ON MY VEHICLE WAS ALREADY KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE AND IT WAS RECALLED BY TOYOTA FOR REPLACEMENT ON THE TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHY THEN HASN'T TOYOTA RECALLED THE VERY SAME FRAME ON THE TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON ACCOUNT OF A KNOWN DEFECTIVE AND UNSAFE FRAME?
I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON MAY3, 2017. AFTER THE INSPECTION PERFORMED ON MAY 8, 2017, I LEARNED THAT THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED. IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR CERTAIN VINS OF THIS CAR FROM THE YEARS 2001--2004 (SEE HTTPS://WWW.TOYOHEADQUARTERS.COM/THREADS/2001-2004-TOYOTA-SEQUOIA-RUST-CORROSION-ON-FRAME-CONDITION-LSC-CSD.200/). I CHECKED WITH TOYOTA AND THE VIN ON MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT, BUT MY CAR DID GET A CORROSION RESISTANT TREATMENT FROM TOYOTA IN 2012. IT IS VERY CLEAR FROM THE PICTURES OF MY FRAME AND THE INSPECTION REPORT FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER THAT THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE (IT WON'T PASS INSPECTION). THEREFORE, THE CORROSION RESISTANCE TREATMENT DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND ASKED THEM TO RECONSIDER MY CAR FOR THE FRAME REPLACEMENT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN EXPIRED IN 2015. THE FRAME ON THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TOYOTA WOULDN'T TELL ME WHY SOME OF THE TOYOTA SEQUOIAS RECEIVED THE FRAME REPLACEMENT AND WHY OTHERS DIDN'T, BUT MY CAR (AND PROBABLY MANY OTHERS) AREN'T DRIVABLE AND AREN'T SAFE WITH THE CURRENT FRAMES. TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE THOROUGH AND SAFE AND RECALL THE REST OF THESE CARS WITH DEFECTIVE FRAMES.
3/22/17, DRIVING OM I 85 HIGHWAY FROM GREENVILLE, S.C. TO GA.. SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, TURNED OFF MY AIR AND RADIO. SEAT BEGAN TO HEAT UP. 45 MINUTES TO GO. PARKED DID NOT GET BACK INTO THE CAR UNTIL 4/3/2007. NOTICED SIDE OF SEAT COVERED IN SMOKE AND SEAT ADJUSTERS MELTED AND BLACKENED. UNABLE TO ADJUST SEATS. TOOK CAR BACK TO GREENVILLE TO DEALER WEEK OF APRIL 10TH. TOLD I HAD TO REPORT THIS TO CORPORATE. I CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY ASKED ME TO SEND PICTURES, I DID, CORPORATE SENT INSPECTOR OUT ON MAY 15TH, 2017. PROMISED A RESPONSE IN 30 DAYS. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE, I WAS FEARFUL, BUT I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. I WAITED ON A RESPONSE, AND MADE SEVERAL PHONE CALLS, AND WAS TOLD PICTURES WERE SENT TO CHINA, AND IT WOULD TAKE MORE TIME. I CONTINUED TO CALL CORPORATE AND IN AUGUST I FINALLY RECEIVED INFORMATION TELLING ME THAT I HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT FIX MY CAR. I HAVE HAD THE SUV SERVICED AS DIRECTED BY THE MANUEL BY A TOYOTA DEALER SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2003. I DID NOTHING TO CAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION IN MY POWER POSITION CONTROL SYSTEM. I INFORMED CORPORATE SEVERAL TIMES THAT THIS WAS AGGRAVATING MY ALREADY INJURED BACK BECAUSE I COULD NOT ADJUST MY SEAT. I AM NOW SCHEDULED FOR BACK SURGERY NEXT MONTH. THIS MALFUNCTION COULD HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE AND I AM FEARFUL OF MY WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME AND WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. I HAD ABOUT 223601 MILES ON THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
RECENTLY MY 2003 SEQUOIA STARTED TO SHAKE ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, SO I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THEY COULD NOT REPAIR MY CAR BECAUSE THE PROBLEM THAT I WAS HAVING WAS NOT DUE TO THE STRUTS OR SHOCKS, BUT THAT THE FRAME WAS SO RUSTED AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR, BUT THAT I WOULD EITHER HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A WELDING SHOP FOR REPAIR, OR LOOK FOR ANOTHER CAR. THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANY LONGER. THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED, THAT I WOULD BE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I SPOKE WITH A WELDING SHOP AND HE ADVISED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RUST COULD CAUSE THE FRAME TO FRACTURE. ARLINGTON TOYOTA (2095 N RAND RD, PALATINE, IL 60074, (847) 485-1200) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER CAMPAIGN, BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STATUTE HAD EXPIRED TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER EXPECTED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN HAVING THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 256,000. *BF*JB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

RUST ISSUES WITH THE FRAME - THERE WAS A RECALL THAT EXPIRED 2014 BUT WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS

I HAVE A 2003 SEQUOIA WITH 253,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WHILE DRIVING ON A FLAT, DRY ROAD AT ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR AND SLOWING FOR AN UPCOMING STOPLIGHT, MY VSC OFF, VSC TRAC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL SUDDENLY CAME ON. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR VEHICLE. I AM STRUGGLING NOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW L WILL AFFORD TO TAKE THIS CAR IN FOR REPAIR AND L AM ANGERED AT BEING PUT IN THIS POSITION. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE, LUXURY SUV WHEN WE BOUGHT IT AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD OWN UP TO THIS BAD PART. IF I'D WANTED A CRAPPY MADE CAR, L WOULDN'T HAVE WASTED $40K ON THIS ONE.
I WENT OUTSIDE AND TURNED THE CAR ON AND NOTICED THAT THE ABS, VSC OFF, AND VSC TRAC DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND DID NOT TURN OFF. I DROVE THE VEHICLE AROUND THE BLOCK AND THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE ABS / VSC TRAC SYSTEM ON THE 2003 SEQUOIA. I HAVE HAD THE COMPUTER MODULES REPLACED FOR THIS ISSUE BEFORE AND 60,000 MILES LATER THE SAME PARTS HAVE GONE OUT AGAIN. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AN SUV WITH THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL AND ABS SYSTEMS NOT FUNCTIONING.

RECENTLY, I TOOK IT TO PENN TOYOTA, 2400 NORTHERN BLVD, GREENVALE, NY 11548 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER THERE REFUSED TO PUT THE VEHICLE ON A REGULAR LIFT BECAUSE OF FEAR OF THE FRAME COLLAPSING (SEE ATTACHED SERVICE RECEIPT). THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE WE USE WITH OUR 3 KIDS AND WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR FAMILY WHEN DRIVING IT. SKID CONTROL ECU ISSUE...MY 2003 RECENTLY STARTED HAVING A FAILURE IN THE ECU AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES TO GO INTO ABS MODE RANDOMLY DURING ACCELERATION AND NOT STOP PROPERLY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE LIGHT, VSC OFF AND TRAC OFF ALL GO OFF AND THE BRAKES GO OUT AND ALMOST CAUSE ME TO WRECK. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND I'M CURIOUS WHAT TOYOTA IS DOING OR NOT DOING TO FIX THIS. I HAD THE ECU RECALL "SOFTWARE UPGRADE" BACK IN 2011. THEY ONLY WARRANTIED THE WORK FOR 1 YEAR, WELL NOW MY COMPUTER IS FAILING AND REPLACEMENT IS $1500. THIS IS A FORMAL COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT I COULD HAVE HAD A REPLACEMENT ECU YEARS AGO AND I WASN'T INFORMED
MY VSC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS POPPED ON SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, WHILE TRAVELING ON STRAIGHT, PAVED HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55 MPH, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WAS NOT BRAKING WHEN ALL LIGHTS SUDDENLY APPEARED. I WAS CRUISING COMFORTABLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON STRAIGHT, FLAT, PAVED ROAD. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED BY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC EXPLAINED THIS CAN BE VERY HAZARDOUS AS THIS SYSTEM CANNOT BE DISABLED. SO, THESE LIGHTS MAY POP ON AND OFF, AND THE VSC SYSTEM MAY SPONTANEOUSLY ENGAGE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONTROL, AND THIS CAN GREATLY AFFECT ACCELERATION AND CAUSE ACCIDENTS. I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING OPERATIONALLY TO CAUSE THESE LIGHTS TO COME ON AND I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT WHICH COULD HAVE VERY STRONG SAFETY IMPLICATIONS.
WHEN ACCELERATING THE SLIP CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ALLOW THE DRIVER TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO 35 MILES PER HOUR. THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE HIT BY A DRIVER APPROACHING AT A SPEED OF 70 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE THE SLIP CONTROL MODULE NEED TO BE REPLACED AT $1,200 AND THE PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE VSC TRAC CONTROL RECALL. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 MODEL AS THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT HAS HAD TO REPLACE MANY OF THE SKID CONTEOL ECU. THIS WILL CAUSE DEATH AND CRASHED AS THE DRIVER CAN NOT SPEED UP WHEN THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

I JUST HAD TO SPEND OVER 1,200 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED AS MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP INSISTED IT WAS ROUTINE EAR AND TEAR. MY BREAKS WOULD NOT WORK, AND I JUST HAD NEW ONES PUT ON 09/2015, AND THE VSP LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND OFF. THE CAR JUMPS, AND SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN RIGHT. I ALMOST HIT SOMEONE AND HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BREAK TO STOP!
I PURCHASE THIS 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN 2003 BRAND NEW AND AT THE MOMENT THE FRAME IS RUSTING AT AN ALARMING RATE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE MANUFACTURER (TOYOTA) IS MAKING ANY PLANS TO RECTIFYING THIS PROBLEM?
THE TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC TURNED ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE AND WHEN I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS IT WILL GRIND AND NOT MOVE THE SAME WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I TRIED STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND CHARGE ME 1800 TO CHANGE THE WATER PUMP AND THE EVAP CAUSE THERE WAS A LEAKAGE. 2 DAYS LATER THE LIGHTS TURN BACK ON.
