Traction control warning lights, VSC warning lights. These lights have been on for 2 years, resulting in check engine light on. I have replaced every sensor possible, fuses, gas cap, and reset the system multiple times but can not get these lights to stay off. Since lights have been on, when driving on a muddy, wet, icy or slippery road way, my steering locks up, the brakes stop working and there is complete loss of vehicle control. All without warning. This is an extreme hazard and very dangerous. This has been on going since 2017 and is still a major problem . It started at around 200,000 miles.
This Vehicle's frame had an extended warranty on it for excessive rust damage in the northern cities. There are holes in the frame, very close to welding points that may break at anytime while driving. And cause an accident.
So in few words when check engine light is happening then immediately traction control and skid control and maybe other safety features are automatically goes off, which almost made me crash with all my family during rain. I definitely don’t like it and I don’t think it’s a good idea if one of the non critical sensors broken then you have to die in crash. I think Toyota should check it because it’s doesn’t sound right.
UNKNOWN I'm unsure of what is causing it but it is a very common issue with the 03-04 sequoia. The brake light will come on like on mine and apparently it's a failure in one of the brake components. It's either the brake booster or the master cylinder in most cases is starting to g out. I've done research on this issue and it's a very common problem costing people thousands to get fixed. I feel like if it's that huge of a problem like I've seen with sequoia owners than it's needs to be addressed in a better manner
The lock actuators in the doors are notorious for going on more than normal it's another very common issue with the seqouia. My driver one is bad right now. And clearly the window motors are faulty cuz I had 3 bad at once I fixed one but my sunroof and back tailgate window both do not work. It is also a very common problem
I recently purchased my 2003 Toyota Sequoia SR5 4WD that had the manufacturer’s undercoating done as a result of the LSC in 2013. The coating has failed and water was able to seep in causing massive rust on the frame. It is a safety hazard to drive at this point.

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia 167k miles that has major frame rust. This is now becoming a safety issue and Toyota needs to be held accountable!
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, he felt the vehicle made a sudden stop. The contact checked under the hood and noticed that the VSC box was melting. The contact disconnected the battery to the vehicle and the smoke stopped. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 200,000.
Undercarriage frame found to be badly rusted, by a AAA Driver who came to my roadside assistance following a brake failure due to rusted and leaky brake lines.
"VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, and ABS" indicators on the dash. YAW sensor failure which controls wheel speed which will cause vehicle to decelerate and possibly cause an accident. Toyota should issue a nationwide recall. Toyota is aware of the issue but has failed to issue a nationwide recall.
Hello, I am writing to you to have an investigation started on 2003 Toyota Sequoia, I own one and there has been concerns with the Frame of the vehicle rotting out, there was Warranty Enhancement Program sent out in United States to cover frames of 2001 to 2004 Toyota Sequoias which replaced severely rusted out frames at the dealership. I use this vehicle for my family and I do not want to endanger the lives of them and the people around the community where the frame may break due to rust and cause a severe accident. Please take a look at the details below and get back to me. Subject: Limited Service Campaign (LSC) CSD Certain 2001 through 2004 Model Year Sequoia Vehicles Frame Inspection I am located in Canada would like NHSTA to investigate and see if this program can be administered to vehicles in Canada since I have severe rotting of the frame and I have had to have it welded many times to not compromise the safety of the vehicle
The latch hook/truck door release has a defect. It has been replaced 3 times after purchase of my vehicle , by the following Toyota dealerships (Tejas Toyota in Humble Texas (2x); Maund Toyota in Austin, Tx (1x). Each dealership service said it was/is manufacture defect with the latch hook and it stops “un latching when the vehicle the button is pressed to unlock and the handle can not open the hatchback” This time I was traveling out of state with my pet in the kennel and when we stopped for restroom break the latch would not open to retrieve the pet to let out the kennel. We were traveling with a vehicle full of items, which the entire inside of the vehicle had to be emptied I ordered to let all the seats down and try to maneuver to try to get my dog out of kennel I. Such a small confined space that was hard to open because it was in the side. It took over and hour to cut the cage at the top to retrieve my pet. The sad part is there was no warning because we were traveling a 13 hour trip, stopping every couple hours for breaks and stretches, and the couple hours before we open the hatchback just fine. This is more than a safety concern for the animal. This is also the ares for retrieving the spare tire underneath the vehicle when the spare has to be released. I have replaced the part 3 times and I am charged $600 cost for parts and labor, when Toyota is aware of the defect. I just had the part replaced 19 months ago and Toyota only gives a 12 warranty on the part. This is ludicrous when the manufacture is aware of the ongoing problem. I have purchased 4 prior Toyota’s and never had had this type of problem. My second safety issue is the case gage drops below the empty gage and stays there even though there is gas in the vehicle. The dealership said there was a recall years ago but I never received any notice. Please advise.
My gas gauge sensor consistently drops below the “E” marker when the truck has gas in it and especially when it is filled up. After driving about 50 miles or so, the gauge will move up some ; however, I have been relying on my DTE monitor to let me know about gas. I have taken it to the dealer twice and both said “the gas tank needs to be dropped in order for repair” I was About to pay for the service but was told I had to make an appointment. However the service advise ask had I had it replaced before because there was a recall on that particular part several years ago. Please note I have never received any notice about a recall regarding the issue. Please advise.

WHEN TAKING MY 2003 SEQUOIA TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING ISSUE I WAS HAVING, I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS SO RUSTED OUT IS WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO COVER ANY COSTS INVOLVED IN REPAIRING OR REPLACING THE FRAME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED RUSTING AND CORROSION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER HENDRICK TOYOTA LOCATED AT 9505 W 67TH ST, MERRIAM, KS 66203 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IN 2013 UNDER A MANUFACTURERS CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000.
RUSTED THROUGH OF FRAME. COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, VEHICLE COULD LITERALLY BREAK IN HALF. OUTSIDE OF THE YEARS TOYOTA INCLUDED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PREVIOUSLY FILED
ON 12/21/2020, AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS, I PUT MY VEHICLE INSIDE MY LOCKED GARAGE AT 10:30 A.M. AND ALL WAS FINE. AT AROUND 9:00 P.M. THAT SAME NIGHT, I OPENED MY GARAGE TO FIND IT FULL OF SMOKE. AFTER INSPECTING EVERYTHING, I SAW NOTHING WAS STILL ON FIRE AND WAITED UNTIL THE MORNING TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. I FIRST TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD BATTERY POWER BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I THEN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND BACKED THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE FRONT OF THE GARAGE TO OPEN THE HOOD. I SAW THE ENGINE HAD BURNED UP FROM SOMEWHERE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT HAD PUT ITSELF OUT. THE FIRE CRACKED THE EXTERIOR HOOD, BURNED HOSES, ELECTRICAL AND OTHER AREAS OF THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. BLACK SOOT HAD ALSO DROPPED ON THE FLOOR OF THE GARAGE UNDERNEATH WHERE THE FIRE WAS. THE WOOD BEAMS INSIDE MY GARAGED WERE ALSO SCORCHED BLACK FROM THE INTENSE HEAT FROM THE FIRE/SMOKE BUT LUCKILY HAD NOT CAUGHT FIRE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID I SHOULD HAVE MY CAR INSURANCE TAKE OVER. MERCURY HAS NOT DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE BUT I AM PUSHING FOR THE EXACT CAUSE SINCE IF IT'S RELATED TO A RECALL ISSUE, THEN TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. MY VEHICLE HAS 37,200 MILES LESS THAN THE AVERAGE AND I HAVE A SPREADSHEET OF ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, SMOG CHECKS AND RECALLS COMPLETED. THERE WAS NO REASON THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED INSIDE MY GARAGE. LUCKILY, I WASN'T DRIVING, WASN'T HURT, AND NO OTHER PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM.
Can not acsess the failed charcoal canister due to rear door failing and am unable to open . So I can not drop the spare tire and acsess the canister
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the vehicle was rusted and towed to the local dealer and diagnosed that the rear differential casing and steering column needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 240,000.Note: While driving, a loud grinding noise was heard and the vehicle was shaking. 1 pulled over and had the car towed. It was determined the rear differential casing was completely rusted and the oil leaked out. It-was also determined the Steering column was completely rusted. The vehicle was recalled in 2012, due to rust issues. The dealership stated they would do the recall work but the vehicle was in poor shape. When I contacted Toyota, they said it was a courtesy recall and will not do any further. Consumer is asking for assistance with the cost of repair due to poor workmanship.
AS I CAME RO STOP AUTO THEN PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE AUTO ACTED AS IF IT DIDNT WANT TO MOVE BUT STARTED OUT SLOW . THIS OCCURED EVERYTIME I STOPPED AND PRESSED TO ACCELL THE AUTO. THE AUTO WAS IN MOTION , DURING TURNING.
I TOOK MY SEQUOIA TO HAVE AN AIRBAG RECALL FIXED AND A RECALL THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SKID CONTROL MODULE BEFORE I TOOK IT TO HAVE THESE RECALLS DONE MY 2 VSC LIGHTS (VSC OFF LIGHT AND VSC TRAC LIGHT) ON THE DASH WERE ON AND SO WAS THE ENGINE LIGHT I THOUGHT MAYBE THE SKID CONTROL RECALL WOULD FIX THE VSC LIGHT BUT NOW BOTH OF THE VSC LIGHTS ARE STILL ON AND MY BRAKE LIGHT IS NOW ALSO COMING ON WHEN I START MY VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS MY BRAKE POWER IS DIMINISHED AND MY VEHICLE SHAKES BAD WHEN HITTING MY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN OR JUST TO SLOW DOWN IN GENERAL AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEREVER I'M DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT THE TIME BUT AS LONG AS THE VSC LIGHTS AND THE BRAKE LIGHT AREN'T ALL LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD AT THE SAME TIME MY BRAKES AREN'T AS DIMINISHED BUT BOTH OF THE VSC LIGHTS STAY ON AND MY VEHICLE STILL SHAKES WHEN I'M SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. ALSO WHEN BOTH OF THE VSC LIGHTS ARE ON ALONG WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT MY VEHICLE WANTS TO SPIN THE BACK TIRES WHEN I'M TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP I HAVE TO LET OFF THE GAS COMPLETELY FOR A SECOND THEN PROCEED.

THE TECHNICIAN DEEMED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 235,000.*DT*DT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ENTERING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG COVER WOULD DETACH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CALLED PASSPORT TOYOTA (5001 AUTH WAY, CAMP SPRINGS, MD 20746, (301) 899-6000) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
EVERYTHING UNDER MY TRUCK IS RUSTY. EVERYTHING IS FULL OF CORROSION, ESPECIALLY THE FRAME, AND SOME PARTS ARE STARTING TO FALL. AND THE FRAME TO BREAK, TOYOTA SHOULD BE ABLE TO REPAIR THIS IMMEDIATELY
TRAC OFF VSC TRAC OFF LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. SEEMS TO BE FAULTY SENSOR. BRAKE LIGHT PERIODICALLY COMES ON WITH NO ISSUE WITH BRAKES. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND EVERYTHING CHECKED. ON 2 OCCASIONS WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON, THE ANTISKID CONTROL ACTIVATES WHEN THE CAR IS GOING LESS THAN 30 MPH SLOWING DOWN FOR A TURN. THE CAR IS HARD TO CONTROL AND SHAKES. AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF FOR AWHILE THE BRAKE LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE THE NEXT TIME YOU DRIVE BUT WILL COME BACK ON RANDOMLY. TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ARE ON.
TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DUE TO STEERING ISSUE - WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP I WOULD LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING. INSPECTION SHOWED THE VEHICLE UNDER BODY AND FRAME HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED, THERE ARE SEVER HOLES AND THE TRAILING ARM HAS SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, BUT TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON THE FRAME DURING THE PRIOR OWNERSHIP AND THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DURING THE RECALL AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ADDRESSED. TOYOTA REFUSES TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AT THIS TIME.
WHEN DRIVING THE BACK LIGHT AN TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME IN BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON AN IT SAYS CODES C1203 C1223 C1247 ALSO SAYING THE ABS SENSOR ON MASTER CYLINDER OPEN CIRCUIT ALSO HAS A CODE FRO 0DTC HAD IT CHECKED OUT ON 7/1/2019
WHILE EXECUTING A SLOW SPEED LEFT TURN(10-15MPH) I BRAKED LIGHTLY TO EXECUTE ANOTHER LEFT TURN WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD ALONG WITH DIMINISHED BRAKE POWER AND A GRINDING NOISE. I APPLIED THEM AGAIN A LITTLE MORE AGGRESSIVE TO STOP MY VEHICLE..SAME RESPONSE. I COASTED TO ABOUT 2-3MPH AND THE LIGHTS WERE STILL SHOWING BUT I RECOVERED BRAKE POWER. AT MY DESTINATION(3 BLOCKS AWAY) I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. ON MY RETURN TRIP BACK HOME, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF DASH WARNING LIGHTS AND I HAD FULL BRAKING POWER. @HOME I IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOYOTA USA AND THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY ONGOING PROBLEM. AFTER GOING ON AN ONLINE FORUM I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM...SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY GOING TO TOYOTA FOR THE PROBLEM, AND SOME OF THOSE STATED THE PROBLEM RETURNED..MY SON RAN AN OBDII DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND NUMEROUS CODES FOR THE ABS ANS ECU AND BRAKEBOOSTER SYSTEM.FIXES RANGE FROM LOW BRAKE FLUID TO A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF SAID SYSTEMS COSTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLRS. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ADDRESS. [DATELINE PROBLEM HAPPENED 6-27-19...]I HAVE NO CHOICE NOW BUT TO WARILY TRUST TOYOTA TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON MY VEHICLE FOR SOLUTIONS....PLEASE HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION WITH AT LEAST THREE SPOTS ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME NEAR THE WELDS. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE FRAME WOULD FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY FRAME RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TWO WEEKS AGO WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH WE FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAD A LIMITED FRAME REPAIR OFFER BUT WE MISSED THE DEADLINE. WE WERE NEVER TOLD BY TOYOTA OR THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE TEAM ABOUT THE RECALL OR THE DAMAGE TO OUR TRUCK. WE HAD OUR CAR SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MECHNIC THAT TOLD US ABOUT THE RUST TOLD US IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 120K MILES AND WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS.
I HAVE HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BRAKES ROTORS WARPING. NEW ONES DO NOT LAST VERY LONG BEFORE THEY WARP. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 155,000 MILES. MY I HAVE ASKED MY TRUSTED SERVICE MECHANICS TO USE TOYOTA PARTS. THE DEALERSHIP PARTS DEPARTMENT TOLD MY MECHANICS THAT THEY DO NOT RECOMMEND REPLACING THE ROTOR WITH A THE ORIGINAL TOYOTA PART AS THEY HAVE BEEN WARPING. THEY RECOMMEND UP SIZING THE ROTORS, WHICH IS WHAT TOYOTA HAS DONE ON SOME VEHICLE. I HAVE TALKED TO A TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT REPLACING THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES. THEY GAVE ME A QUOTE BUT SAID THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ANY WARRANTY ON BRAKES. I TALKED TO TOYOTA'S 800 NUMBER THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR ELIGIBLE UPGRADES AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE CAMPAIGN THEY HAD FOR THE BRAKES. THEY WOULD NOT ELABORATE IF ANY OF THE 2003 SEQUOIAS WERE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKES OR BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE UNDERSIZED WHICH IS MANIFESTED BY THE REPEAT WARPING OF THE ROTORS. THE UNDERSIZED BRAKES COULD BE A HAZARD UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.
TAKATA RECALL. THE PARKING LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, AND WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A TOYOTA DEALER. THEY RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE ECU, WHICH WE DID. THIS DIDN'T FIX IT. THE CAR GOT WORSE AND STARTED SHAKING WHEN I DROVE AND WHEN I STOPPED IT WOULD SHAKE AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM SERVICED. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND A DANGEROUS FLAW IN THESE VEHICLES.
"BALL JOINT FAILURE" WHILE TRAVELLING DOWN FREEWAY AT 35-40 MPH THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE HAD COME OFF AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DROP. LOST STEERING, BRAKES AND ANY CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE SKID INTO THE GUARD RAIL SPINNING IT AROUND AND SLIDING UNTIL IT CAME TO A STOP. THE ARM CAME DIRECTLY OFF THE VEHICLE AND IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE WHEEL.
THE TRUNK LATCH/HANDLE/LOCK. I HAVE HAD IT REPLACED 3 TIMES BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THERE'S IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THERE'S NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. THE LAST TIME THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I. AUSTIN TEXAS REPLACES IT I HAD A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. IN EXACTLY 14 MONTHS THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN! THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO SAY THE LEAST AND I AM TIRED OF PAYING 600 (PARTS/LABOR) TO REPAIR, WHEN TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM! NOTE: WHEN THE HANDLE BREAKS THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE SPARE TIRE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO LIFE THE TRUNK TO ACCESS THE SPARE TIME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DAVENPORT TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 1501 E 53RD ST, DAVENPORT, IA 52807, (563) 391-4106) FOR A NOISE THAT WAS COMING FROM THE CHASSIS WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME WAS BADLY CORRODED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THREE HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRAME FRACTURED AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY TO HIS RESIDENCE. ONCE THE CONTACT ARRIVED HOME AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED THROUGH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO COATING ON THE FRAME, WHICH CAUSED THE METAL TO CORRODE BADLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO DAVENPORT TOYOTA WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED THROUGH AND THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.

MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA 4X4 LIMITED HAS ABOUT 230000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND SLOWED DOWN TO TAKE A TURN AND HEARD A LARGE "THUNK". I THEN CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND LATER AS I GOT UP TO ABOUT 60 VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER HEATH AND THE FRAME HAD SEPARATED DUE TO RUST AT THE STABILIZER BAR FOR THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FRAME. I WAS GOING TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE FRAME IS JUST RUST FOR THE FULL REAR SECTION OF THE FRAME AND HAS LARGE HOLES DUE TO RUST. IT IS DEFINITELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I FOUND OUT THAT IT HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS ISSUE TILL 2014. I REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TOYOTA KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE. I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY HELP. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MAY 2018 FROM A PRIVATE PARTY AND TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THE RISK I TAKE PURCHASING PRIVATE PARTY.
WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL, DRY CONDITIONS ON PUBLIC ROADWAY, THE FRAME OF THIS 2003 SEQUOIA BROKE. THE AFFECTED AREA IS WHERE THE LOWER REAR CONTROL ARM FROM THE BACK AXLE JOINS THE MAIN VEHICLE FRAME. THE VEHICLES ROCKED VIOLENTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND VERGED ON BEING UNCONTROLLABLE. NO INJURIES OCCURRED DURING THE EVENT BUT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION AND RESEARCH THE MAIN FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST COMPLETELY COMPROMISED FROM CORROSION. AFTER TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED, OWNER WAS TOLD VEHICLE HAD "RUST TREATMENT" IN 2013, NO FURTHER CUSTOMER SUPPORT OFFERED. THESE VEHICLES ARE DEFINITELY UNSAFE AND THE CORROSION TREATMENT HAS ONLY GIVEN OWNERS A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. OPERATION OF THESE "RUST PROTECTED" VEHICLES LEAVES OWNERS FACING UNSEEN RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH FROM FRAME FAILURE. THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE REPAIRED OR REMOVED FROM SERVICE TO PROTECT THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

THIS HAS BEEN IN THIS STATE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL INTERACTIONS WITH TOYOTA REGARDING REPAIRING UNDER THE RECALL. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY. THE RECALL ONLY COVERS CARS MANUFACTURED THROUGH APRIL. HAVING WORKED IN A TOYOTA PLANT FOR 5 YEARS, I KNOW THAT IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS COULD BE IN THE PLANT SEVERAL MONTHS PAST APRIL. YESTERDAY, MY BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE ABS WAS ACTIVATING RANDOMLY, WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND THE CAR WAS NOT REACTING NORMALLY TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANICM. THE TROUBLESHOOTING CODES HAD TO DUE WITH THE STABILITY CONTROL COMPUTER.
RUSTED HOLE IN THE FRAME, DRIVER SIDE. PASSENGER SIDE ALREADY HAD WORK DONE TO THE FRAME BY PREVIOUS OWNER. MECHANIC TOLD ME HE WOULD NOT JACK UP THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE HOLE, WAS ADVISED THAT DRIVING THIS CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS.
MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS RUST HOLES THROUGH MY FRAME TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT AS IT'S MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN THAT I HAVE TO TAKE WITH ME. TOYOTA USA SAID THEY PERFORMED A TREATMENT TO THE GRAM IN 2012 AND THAT THEIR IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY WILL DO TO RESOLVE THIS BLATANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE FACT SO MANY SEQUOIA OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE BY TOYOTA IS APPALLING. I HAVE SUBMITTED PICTURES OF AN AREA NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE SWAY BAR IS BARLEY BEING HELD ON DUE TO THE RUST.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE RUST FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
