TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND MADE A GRINDING SOUND. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND DISCOVERED A DEFECTIVE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
VEHICLE VSC TRAC LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS AND WSC DASH BOARD INDICATORS COMES ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM IS CONSTANT AND MORE PERSISTENT EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED AS THE BRAKES SEIZED. THE VEHICLE SLID WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
MY SEQUOIA WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN STOP ACCELERATING WHILE DRIVING. TRAC LIGHT AND VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON TO GET IT MOVING AGAIN...I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY DID SEVERAL TESTS. ALL BUT ONE TEST DETERMINED IT WAS THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (OF WHICH IS COVERED UNDER A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT). BECAUSE OF THAT ONE TEST, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME I HAD TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL IT BREAKS DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEY WOULD TOW IT BACK THERE. PROBLEM IS...I MIGHT BE DEAD IN THE TRUCK DEPENDING ON WHERE AND WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT! MY SEQUOIA HAS BEEN A LEMON! I HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD TO REPLACE 1)THROTTLE BODY 2)THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH 3)BRAKE BOOSTER 4)MASTER CYLINDER AND 5)SKID CONTROL ECU. AT 120,000 MILES AND ALL OF THOSE PROBLEMS ALREADY? AND NOW THIS ISSUE?....IT MUST BE A LEMON! *JS
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WITH A SHUDDER AND THE VSC, TRAC OFF AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY. ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON AT RANDOM TIMES. EVERYTHING RESETS WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE SLOWING DOWN. I HAVE CHECKED THE TOYOTA WEB SITE AND THEY DO NOT SHOW ANY RECALLS. ALSO I HAVE CHECKED ON-LINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM AND I FEEL THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX THIS WITH A RECALL. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. *TR
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE STREET, I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND AND ALL OF THE VSC TRAC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE CAR, THE CAR BEHAVED NORMAL AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. I'M PRESUMING THAT THE GRINDING NOISE MIGHT BE THE BRAKES PULSATING. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR THE BRAKES TO AUTOMATICALLY APPLY THEMSELVES DURING SAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
BRAKES BECAME "SOFT" WITH VIBRATION IN PEDAL AND COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION POWER. UPON REVIEW-SAW THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT THAT IS NOT BEING RESOLVED BY TOYOTA. THEY RECALLED THEIR 2003 PRODUCT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. FOLKS GO TO TOYOTA TO HAVE PROBLEM FIXED - ONLY TO HAVE SAME PROBLEM WITHIN MONTHS AND SOME FOLKS HAVE PAID UPWARDS OF $3000.00 AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED. THERE ARE THOUSAND OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PROBLEM IF YOU WILL MONITOR TOYOTAS COMPLAINT DATA BASE AND MANY OTHER FORUMS.WILL A FAMILY HAVE TO BE GRAVELY INJURED BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN? *TR
AFTER CRANKING THE CAR AND DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE FOLLOWING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD APPEARED: VSC OFF / VSC TRAC / CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I ENTERED THE ON RAMP TO THE INTERSTATE AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER AND LET THE CAR "RESET". ATTEMPTED TO RE-ENTER THE INTERSTATE AND THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC BUT CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 40 MPH AND I HAD MY 3 SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. VERY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. DROVE TO A DEALERSHIP THAT ADVISED ME A SECONDARY HOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THE ENGINE. LATER DETERMINED THAT TOYOTA RELEASED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN AND ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. IT IS AN EXTREMELY COSTLY PART TO FIX. PARTS ALONE ARE $3200. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HEARD A LOW "SUPERCHARGER" TYPE NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN AIR INJECTION PUMP PROBLEM (CODES P1442, P1445) WHICH HAS BEEN FOUND ON 2008-2010 SEQUOIAS. VEHICLE COMPUTER IS OPERATING IN SAFE MODE AT A REDUCED CAPACITY UNTIL REPAIR IS DONE. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM IN THE 2008-2010 MODEL YEARS BUT WOULD NOT CONSIDER ANY ACTION OR NECESSARY COMMUNICATION FOR THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. *TR
LOSS OF ABS SYSTEM, VSC & TRACTION CONTROL ON INTERSTATE AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED BARELY AVOIDED COLLISIONS. UNSAFE. VSC/ABS/E BRAKE LIGHT ALL ON. *TR
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND TOOK AN EXIT. SLOWED DOWN AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VSA AND TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON, THE CAR LOST POWER FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL DIDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND EVENTUALLY, HEARD A LOUD NOISE AS IF THE ENGINE WAS RE-ENGAGING AND THEN SOME GRINDING NOISE AND THE CAR WAS BACK TO "NORMAL" DRIVING CONDITION. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT, HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS CONSIDERING THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME AND COULD HAVE RAN INTO ME. SIMILAR EXPERIENCE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED. PEOPLE WERE HONKING BEHIND ME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO MAKE IT WORK AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VSC AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE REPAIR NEEDED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 20 MPH. AFTER EXITING, I STILL COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 20 MPH. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH R&H TOYOTA IN OWINGS MILLS, MD FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2013. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP INFORMING ME IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP, BUT SINCE THE PART WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE VALVE ASSEMBLY AND THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER, AT A TOTAL COST OF $4,845.02. MY INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE DEFECTIVE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM IN THEIR VEHICLES AND AS A RESULT ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT, IN RESPONSE TO REPORTS OF AIR INDUCTION PUMP ASSEMBLIES AND/OR AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVES ISSUES ON THEIR 2007-2010 TUNDRA AND 2008-2010 SEQUOIA MODELS, UP TO 150,000 MILES. I CALLED TOYOTA TO QUESTION WHY THE DECISION WAS MADE TO NOT INCLUDE ALL MODEL YEARS WITH THE DEFECTIVE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM AND WAS INFORMED IT WAS THEIR ENGINEERS' DECISION. NO ONE AT TOYOTA COULD FURTHER EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. MY RESEARCH REVEALS THERE ARE MANY MODELS FOR 2005 - 2008 AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. THE EXPLANATION FOR THE EXORBITANT EXPENSE WAS BECAUSE OF A DESIGN CHANGE AND THAT TOYOTA NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE DEFECTIVE PART, OWNERS OF VEHICLES FOR MODELS 2005 - 2008 WOULD NEED TO REPLACE ENTIRE SYSTEM. SO, TOYOTA APPARENTLY ACKNOWLEDGES A DEFECT IN THEIR DESIGN AND ITS IMPACT ON VEHICLE OWNERS. I CANNOT AFFORD $5,000.00 FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY EIGHT (8) YEARS OLD. BASED ON MY RESEARCH, THERE IS A LARGE CLASS OF TOYOTA CUSTOMERS AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ADVISE. *TR
MY VSC, TRAC AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL CAME ON ALL OF SUDDEN WITH A LARGE BOOM SOUND. THE CAR STALLED ON ME IN AN INTERSECTION. THE LIGHTS GO OFF ONCE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN AFTER TURNING CAR BACK ON THEY WILL COME ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING. CAR LOSES POWER EVERY SO OFTEN NOW. DEALER SAID IT NEEDS A NEW COMPUTER. *TR
VSC, TRAC, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ALL COME ON A ONCE. THEY WOULD USUALLY RESET AFTER ON THE NEXT START. IT HAS PROGRESSED OVER THE PAST YEAR TO THE LIGHTS STAYING ON MOST OF THE TIME AND ONLY OCCASIONALLY RESETTING TO OFF. I HAVE NO ABS OR STABILITY CONTROL DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. EVEN WITH THE LIGHTS ON, THERE WERE NO CODES ON SYSTEM WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER. THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE SKID CONTROL ECU WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
I STARTED MY CAR AND DROVE OFF, AND I NOTICED THE VSC TRAC LIGHTS STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO DRIVE FINE, BUT THE VSC TRAC LIGHTS STAYED ON. UPON DOING MY OWN RESEARCH ONLINE I DISCOVERED THAT MANY SEQUOIA OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE, BUT TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO DO A RECALL. THIS ISSUE WITH VSC TRAC IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THROUGH MY RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD LOSE POWER AT ANY TIME, AND MANY OWNERS STATE THEY HEAR A GRINDING NOISE AS THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. *TR
DURING APPLICATION OF A SPARE TIRE TO THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL, 2 OF THE 6 LUG SCREWS SNAPPED OFF AT THEIR BASE. ADDITIONALLY, PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED REAR HATCH LATCHING MECHANISM (TOYOTA RECALL) BROKE AGAIN, WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW ACCESS TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE'S SPARE TIRE, MOUNTED UNDER THE REAR. *TR
EXTREME RUSTING ON VEHICLE CHASSIS, SPARE TIRE MOUNT, SHOCK MOUNTS, ENTIRE UNDER-CARRAIGE. TOYOTA HAS PERFORMED CHASSIS REPLACEMENTS ON MODEL YEARS UP TO 2004 DUE TO EXTREME RUSTING ON THE SEQUOIA. THIS GENERATION NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN RECALL OR CAMPAIGN TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRAC OFF, AND VSC TRAC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE SECONDARY AIR INTAKE PUMP AND VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE CONTACT STATED A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,600.
MY VSC TRAC, VSC OFF COMES ON ALL THE TIME AND DON'T GO AWAY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURE ISSUE. *TR

MY 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA'S ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL BEGAN TO LOSE POWER CAUSING MY CAR TO ONLY GO AROUND 20MPH. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OF 65MPH AND THEN THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND MY CAR JUST SLOWS DOWN TO ABOUT 20 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND HAVE A RECALL ON THEIR 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VEHICLES. THEY DID DO A RECALL ON THE TOYOTA SEQUOIAS FOR THE 2008 - 2010 MODELS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD COST AROUND 3,200 TO FIX. I FEEL THAT THE TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THIS FAULTY SYSTEM ON THEIR TOYOTA SEQUOIAS. TOTALLY FRUSTRATED AND PLAN ON TELLING EVERYONE I SEE DRIVING A SEQUOIA ABOUT THE PROBLEM I HAVE HAD AND TELL THEM THEY NEED TO CONSIDER GETTING RID OF THEIR VEHICLE. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHT CONSTANTLY GOES ON AND OFF. TRAC OFF, VSC TRAC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL COME ON. A LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE AND VIBRATION THE ENGINE WILL NOT ACCELERATE RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AND THE TRAC CONTROL LIGHT GOES ON AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER USUALLY FAILED AT 70,000 MILES ON THE SPECIFIC YEAR MODEL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING LOW POWER/LOW ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE HAS 65,000 MILES. BECAUSE THIS PART FAILED, SEVERAL ENGINE PARTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE ENGINE NEARLY BLEW UP AS A RESULT. TOYOTA RECALLED 2003-04 MODELS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT HAS ONLY ISSUED A TSB FOR THE 2005 MODEL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT MY ENGINE WOULD NOT HAVE NEARLY EXPLODED HAD THE SKID COMPUTER NOT BEEN FAULTY. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA, AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THIS PART IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE 2005 MODEL, AND WILL NOT ASSIST IN REPAIRING IT. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR FOR THIS IS $4000. *TR
WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE AND APPLYING BRAKES, THE ABS MOTOR WAS HEARD AND THEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT MUSHY SO A VISIT TO DEALER WAS MADE. THE CONCERN WAS ADDRESSED WITH SERVICE, AND THEY CAME BACK WITH : "TEST DROVE CAR AND INSPECTED BRAKES. FOUND DTC'S C1223, C1244, C1247, C1310. PROVIDED ESTIMATE FOR UPDATED SKID CONTROL ECU @ $905 + TAX". AS THE CUSTOMER, I DECLINED TO SCHEDULE. THEN DURING A PAST WINTER STORM, BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AGAIN, THE SAME THING OCCURRED. VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS BRAKING SYSTEM IS DEFECTED IN ANY WET/SNOWY/ICE WEATHER. I HAVE HAD TO DIVERT TO DRIVING MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD IN SNOW INSTEAD OF THE SEQUOIA. I AM VERY CONCERNED DRIVING THIS SEQUOIA WITH MY KIDS IN CAR AND BRAKING AT ANYTIME. I FEEL AN UPDATED SOFTWARE/LOGIC IN ECU OR AN UPDATED SKID CONTROL ECU IS VALID ENOUGH TO SAY THEY HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS 'SAFETY' RELATED, AND TOYOTA SHOULD BUCK UP COVERING THIS AS WARRANTY. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, USA, INC. AND MY CASE IS FILED AT THEIR HEADQUARTER OFFICE UNDER MY NAME AND FILE #[XXX]. THEY STATED THEIR IS NO CUSTOMER COMPLIANCE ISSUED RECALL/BULLETIN OR WARRANTY AVAILABLE TO COVER MY CONCERN DUE TO ITS AGE AND MILEAGE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 SEQUOIA THAT I PURCHASED NEW FROM A VA DEALER ON 31 DEC 2005; IT HAS A RATHER SERIOUS DRIVE-TRAIN RELATED PROBLEM. AFTER COMING TO A 'HARD' STOP, SEVERAL SECONDS LATER I EXPERIENCE A LURCH OR CLUNK THAT LITERALLY FEELS LIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE JUST BUMPED ME FROM BEHIND. I BEGAN TO APPLY THRESHOLD BRAKING AND THE PROBLEM WAS MINIMAL. TODAY, I HAD TO ABRUPTLY APPLY THE BRAKES, EMERGENCY VEHICLE CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME, HOWEVER, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THIS TIME THE LURCH WAS FOLLOWED A LOUD THUD THAT WAS MEASURED WITH THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE URGE TOYOTA TO HAVE THIS ISSUE MADE INTO A RECALL ALONG WITH THE RUST ISSUES THAT THIS TRUCK CONTINUES TO HAVE. THE RUST RECALL WAS LIMITED AND STOPPED WITH THE 2004 MODELS EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. *TR

RESTARTED THE CAR AND LIGHTS WERE INITIALLY OFF BUT CAME RIGHT BACK ON AS SOON AS I STARTED DRIVING. HAD ADVANCE AUTO PARTS HOOK COMPUTER TO IT, AND IT ISN'T THROWING A CODE AT ALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE WAS PARKING, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD A GRINDING NOISE DURING THE FAILURE. THE BRAKE LIGHT THEN ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 103,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR 5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH WHEN THE VSC AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE DECREASED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE FUEL AIR REDUCTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,012.
THE REAR AIR BAG LEVELING SYSTEM FAILS WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE BOTTOMS OUT SENDING THE REAR END SKIPPING ACROSS THE ROAD IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER 3 TIMES. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY REPLACED THE AIR RELEASE VALVES IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA DOES NOT SEEM TO KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER SEQUOIA OWNERS AND IN THOSE CASES THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM INHIBITS BREAKING AND VEHICLE CONTROL AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. THE AIR BAG LEVELING SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I AM UNABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION AND AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR
VSC/TRAC CONTROL/ CHECK ENGINE DASH WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND WILL NOT RESET. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AT TWO DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROPLEM. THEY WANT ME TO PAY THEM TO GO INTO THE MOTOR TO FIND THE PROBLEM. HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE.

I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 16, 2012 AND THEY SAID THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER NEEDED REPLACED AND THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART. ON JUNE 19, 2012 THEY REPLACED THIS PART AT A CHARGE OF $1013.56. ON JUNE 22, 2012 ALL THESE LIGHTS HAVE AGAIN COME ON. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL DIAGNOSIS THERE HAD BEEN A BULLETIN ISSUED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I ASK WHY IT WASN'T RECALLED IF IT WAS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY JUST SAID IT WAS A BULLETIN NOT A RECALL. *TT

OWNER BROUGHT THE TIRE FOR INSPECTION AT THE SAID OUTLET FOR THE TIRE TECHNICIAN TO INSPECT, BUT WAS TOLD THAT ITS JUST "COSMETIC", SAFE TO USE. THE BRAKE LIGHT CONSTANTLY GOES ON AND OFF. TRAC OFF, VSC TRAC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL COME ON. A LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE AND VIBRATION WHEN STARTING UP THE VEHICLE. ENGINE WILL NOT ACCELERATE RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AND THE TRAC CONTROL LIGHT GOES ON AT THE SAME TIME. I FIRST EXPERIENCED THIS WHILE GOING UP A MOUNTAIN AND NEEDED TO TURN AROUND BECAUSE MY VEHICLE STARTED TO DECELERATE EVEN WITH THE GAS COMPLETELY FLOORED. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. IS TOYOTA WAITING FOR A DEATH TO HAPPEN BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING. THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND I'M TRANSPORTING MY 2 AND 5 YEAR OLD. 3 INCIDENTS IN THE LAST 90DAYS, EACH ONE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BETWEEN 15-40MPH WITH 5 PASSENGERS AND IN TRAFFIC. ON EACH OCCASION, THE BRAKES SUDDENLY ENGAGED, CAUSING A LOUD BANG/THUNK SOUND FOLLOWED BY A SEVERE SHAKE IN THE VEHICLE. SPEED & CONTROL WAS DRASTICALLY REDUCED TO THE POINT OF BEING UNCONTROLLABLE. WITHIN SECONDS, THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, BRAKE AND MAINTENANCE LAMPS ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, AS IF THE BRAKES WERE FULLY ENGAGED. AFTER PULLING OVER, WE SHUTDOWN THE VEHICLE AND LET IT SIT A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, ON RESTARTING, ALL LAMPS WERE ON, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVE-ABLE HOWEVER, THE BRAKES WE STILL BEING APPLIED BUT SLIGHTLY ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE BUT ON RELEASE OF THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE SLOWED RAPIDLY. AFTER DROPPING OFF VEHICLE TO A LOCAL NON-DEALER SERVICE CENTER ON EACH OF THE FIRST 2 INCIDENTS, THE CODES WERE NO-LONGER ACTIVE AND THE SHOP INDICATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNLESS THE CODES WERE ACTIVE AGAIN. RESEARCH INDICATES THE 2003-04 HAD SKID CONTROL COMPUTER RECALL, REFLASHING/REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER BUT ONLY A TSB WAS ISSUED ON THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT, THE MOST SEVERE, WE WENT TO A TOYOTA DEALER. THEY CONFIRMED THE RECALL & THE TSB. IN DISCUSSIONS WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR'S AND TECHNICIANS, THEY BOTH REPORTED THAT THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS 2005 MODELS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A TOTAL COST OF $1100. HOWEVER, NUMEROUS POSTS ON ONLINE BLOGS & FORUMS INDICATE THE PROBLEM PERSISTS EVEN AFTER THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER WAS REPLACED. WE ARE LUCKY THAT THIS EVENT DID NOT RESULT IS AN ACCIDENT AS WE WERE IN TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES BEHIND US WOULD NOT EXPECT OUR VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY BRAKE CAUSING THEM CRASH INTO US AT FULL SPEED. THIS IS A SEVERE KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AND TOYOTA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
REAR HATCH WINDOW FRAME AND MECHANISM HAS RUSTED TO POINT OF FAILURE. REAR WINDOW FELL INTO REAR HATCH AND WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER WHO INFORMED ME OF ENTIRE REAR DOOR/HATCH RUSTING AWAY FROM INSIDE. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF COLLISION. DEALER INFORMED ME THEY HAVE SEEN MANY SEQUOIA'S WHERE DOOR IS RUSTING OUT. DEALER REPORTED THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF ISSUE BUT WILL TO RECALL VEHICLE. I AM STILL HOPING THAT TOYOTA WILL RECTIFY ISSUE AS I WAS INFORMED FROM DEALER THAT REPAIR WOULD COST $1200.00. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS A FAILED AIR INJECTION SYSTEM THAT CAUSES A REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE'S POWER OUTPUT. WHEN THE INITIAL FAILURE BEGAN THERE WAS A LOUD VACUUM SOUND UPON START UP AND ALL DASH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. OVER TIME THE SOUND WENT AWAY BUT ENGINE POWER IS STILL GREATLY REDUCED. THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AS THE VEHICLE CAN NOT ACCELERATE ADEQUATELY TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR MAINTAIN SPEEDS ON AN INCLINE THUS POSING A RISK FOR ACCIDENTS AND AS A RESULT POSSIBLE INJURY. TOYOTA WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE IN SUMMER 2012 BUT STATED THEY WOULD NOT COVER OR REPLACE ANY COMPONENTS RELATED TO THIS AS THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TOYOTA SCION CONCORD (CONCORD, NC) AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED SHOWING A FAILED AIR INJECTION SYSTEM. THE REPLACEMENT COST ARE APPROXIMATELY $3,500 AND REQUIRES A SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO BREAK DOWN THE MOTOR TO REPLACE THE NECESSARY COMPONENTS. WITH THE COST OF THE SYSTEM BEING SIGNIFICANT THIS GOES BEYOND THE SCOPE OF A BASIC REPAIR. 2ND GENERATION SEQUIOAS (2008-CURRENT) ALSO EXPERIENCED FAILED AIR INJECTION SYSTEMS AND TOYOTA REPLACED THE SYSTEM IN THESE VEHICLES BUT DID NOT IN THE 1ST GENERATION ALTHOUGH THEY SHARE A SIMILAR POWERTRAIN. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER, BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS OF THE FAILURE. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, BEGINNING OF MARCH, THE ENGINE LIGHT, VSC TRAC LIGHT, TRAC OFF LIGHT, ARE ALL LITE UP WHEN I TURN ON THE ENGINE. THE VSC, TRAK LIGHT AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON WHICH IN TURN MADE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THEY STAY ON CONTINUALLY. AT FIRST NO CODE COULD BE FOUND. THEN DEALER STATED THAT THE ECU HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS AIR PUMP - BOTH TOTALLING OVER $3000. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY SEQUOIA TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. OTHER YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED SO WHY NOT THE 2005 - OR ANY OTHER YEAR SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE. I EMAILED AND TALKED TO TOYOTA. THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND CAN NOT HELP WITH IT'S SOLUTION. LAST TOYOTA I'LL HAVE. *TR
I HAVE A NEWLY PURCHASED, ONE OWNER, PREOWNED SEQUOIA, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED EVERY 5000 MILES AND ALL RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN COMPLETED AT THE SAME DEALER EACH TIME. I HAVE RECENTLY TAKEN IT FOR INSPECTION AND THE DEALER FAILED IT BECAUSE THE VSC SKID CONTROL ECU NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF ERROR CODES. THIS IS A $2300 DOLLAR REPAIR. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE THIS IS AN VERY COMMON ISSUE. SO MUCH SO THAT TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB AND CHANGED THE PART OUT FOR A NEW ONE ON FUTURE MODELS. I FEEL LIKE TOYOTA IS VERY AWARE OF THIS DEFECT WHICH IS A BRAKE RELATED CONCERN WHICH TO ME IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO OWN UP TO THIS AND PAY FOR THE COSTLY REPAIR. IF ON SNOW VEHICLE IT REPEATEDLY LOOSES POWER AND PRODUCES A NOISE AS IF IT IS SHORTING-OUT. VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN GOING UP HILL ON GRAVEL ROAD. EACH BUMP AT LOW SPEED (3-4 MPH) CAUSES SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF TRACTION CONTROL BEING TURNED OFF. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE YAW RATE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. THIS CAUSES THE VSC TRAC TO ENGAGE AND SLOWS THE VEHICLE RIGHT AWAY, ALSO CAUSES POWER FAILURE IN THE ASPECT OF WHEN IT ENGAGES ENGINE SLOWS AND CAN EVER SHUT OFF. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT THREE MONTHS. ON 05/6/12 THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE THE FAN. TURNED ON AND OFF THE CAR THREE TIMES AND THE WHINING SOUND WENT AWAY. NEXT DAY SAME PROBLEM THEN THE CHECK ENGINE, VSC TRACK &TRAC OFF LIGHTS CAME ON. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALER WHO IS QUOTING A PRICE OF $3K TO FIX. I AM NOTICING QUITE A NUMBER OF THESE SAME COMPLAINTS IS THIS A RECALL ISSUE FOR TOYOTA?
