Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 143,000. It was later discovered, when the contact received the Title, the mileage was 248,000.
The drivers seat belt sometime does not retract. One of the seat belts in the middle row retracts slowly or sometimes does not retract. Another seatbelt is very tough to pull out to buckle. I just purchased this vehicle so I’m not sure how long the seatbelts have been an issue.
My wife pulled out of a parking lot and there was a loud noise and the vehicle began to shudder violently. Approximate speed was 10 mikes an hour and she was able to stop. The drivers side rear suspension airbag had broken through the lower control arm, and was under the rear driver side tire. It appears some frame members are cracked as well. Had this happened at highway speeds, it may have resulted in a catastrophic accident. Writer contacted Toyota, as I do not recall being notified of their ZH9 frame replacement program that resulted from a class action settlement, and the rear of the frame is horribly rusted. Vehicle probably would have qualified at that time to be fixed, but am now out of the window. Manufacturers should be made to notify via certified mail, so they know their customers received notifications like this.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the independent mechanic for an oil change, the mechanic informed her husband that the chassis was severely rusted. The dealer and other unknown dealers were notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under Toyota Campaign Number: ZH7 because the campaign had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed the assessment from the dealers. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in for routine service, the independent mechanic discovered that the rear subframe was severely damaged due to rust and corrosion. The contact was advised that holes were present in the subframe, and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed that the vehicle was no longer qualified under the Extended Warranty Coverage for the failure. The failure mileage was 168,000. The VIN was not available.
A valve spring in the engine failed causing one cylinder to fail as well. The failure fortunately happened at low speed and the engine didn't seize. This a known problem with Toyota V8s of this model year and was the reason for a recall of Lexus vehicles with the same engine. Had this happened at highway speed, the engine, we were told, could have experienced a total failure causing the engine to seize likely leading to a serious accident. The car is available for inspection at the moment, but this failure requires a total engine rebuild or an engine replacement which are both very costly and we may have to purchase a new car. The car has not been inspected by Toyota, police, insurance or anyone other than a car service center. There were no warning lights, messages or any symptoms prior to the failure. It was sudden with no warning at all. The car has been very well maintained over the years with regular maintenance done on a consistent schedule.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for an unknown repair, the dealer informed the contact that the sub-frame was corroded. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Tony Divino Toyota, a Toyota Motor Company dealership, sold me this vehicle sight unseen knowing I would immediately be towing a boat trailer 350 miles at highway speeds through construction zones on I-80 with children and our dog onboard. I was told it had passed a "160 point inspection" and was "in great condition". However, when delivered to me the dealership knew it was not road worthy and in fact illegal to drive on public roads due to missing a third brake light, bad rear brakes were bad, the transmission had failed, the battery had failed, the shocks/struts had failed, and a live shotgun shell was rolling around under the drivers seat. Both Toyota Motor Corporation and the dealership refused to address or correct these vehicle defects which could have resulted in a disastrous crash with injury/death to myself and children. This systemic Toyota disregard for used vehicle quality creates a national safety issue with all cars processed through the Toyota Motor Company network.
I HAD MY BRAKES CHECKED OUT AT A SHOP IN MOUNTAIN HOME ARKANSAS, MOUNTAIN MOTORS HWY 5 N.. ASKING THAT THEY BLEED AND INSPECT AS NECESSARY ,AND CHECK TORQUES. AFTER AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES I WAS TOLD THAT THE BLEEDER ON ONE CALIPER BROKE OFF! THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE BLEEDER, THEY SAID IT WOULD BE OK! THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY LESS THAN 1000 LATER! WE WERE LUCKY, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR IN A SMALL TOWN IN WISCONSIN. WE WERE MOVING SLOW AND I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT! THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AND $750.00 LATER WE CONTINUED OUR TRIP. THERE IS NO REGULATORY AGENCY IN ARKANSAS,AND THE REPAIR SHOP IS IGNORING ME! CAN YOU HELP? I HAVE RECIEPTS.
GOOD AFTERNOON, DURING THE DRIVE-THRU AND THE CAR, STARTED TO SHAKE, AND THE ENGINE STOPS. AFTER THAT, I CONTACTED THE TOW-TRUCK AND BROUGHT IT TO TOYOTA DEALER. THE DEALER HAS FINALLY OPENED THE ENGINE, AND THE RESULT WAS THE VALVE SPRING WAS BROKEN IN HALF, AND THE SPARK PLUG ALSO MELTED. *TR

TOYOTA SERVICE SAID THE REAR SUB-FRAME IS RUSTING AND EVENTUALLY REAR WHEELS COULD SEPARATE FROM VEHICLE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHILE TOYOTA WAS REPLACING THE MAIN FRAME UNDER A CLASS ACTION SUIT.THE SUB-FRAME WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SUIT' THEREFORE TOYOTA WANTS ME TO PAY THE ENTIRE COST OF $2550
RUSTY PARTS (RUST EXTENDED WARRANTY) THE BACK WINDOW ON MY 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FELL DOWN ABRUPTLY WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. ITEMS FLEW FROM MY BACK WINDOW AND I WAS FORCED TO SLOW DOWN ABRUPTLY AND PREVENT DRIVERS IN MY REAR FROM BEING IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER PULLING OVER, I HAD TO RETRIEVE THOSE ITEMS ON A BUSY ROADWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE BY POWERING THE WINDOW BACK UP, BUT IT WOULDN'T WORK. I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE WINDOW TO THE UP POSITION AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. I HAD TO SECURE MY ITEMS AND DRIVE HOME SLOWLY. LATER THAT DAY, I CONDUCTED SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THE 1ST GENERATION SEQUOIA WAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR FROM RUST. UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT SEE ANY RECALLS FOR THE 2ND GENERATION MODELS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND ONCE THEY EXAMINED THE BACK DOOR, THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAUSE FOR THE WINDOW FALLING DOWN ABRUPTLY WAS INDEED FROM A RUSTY REGULATOR AND RUSTY PARTS. I CONDUCTED MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN INFAMOUS FOR INSTALLING PARTS THAT RUST OVER TIME. TOYOTA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR RUST, BUT IT DOESN'T STATE SPECIFICALLY WHAT IT COVERS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE IT INTO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RUST EXTENDED WARRANTY RECALL PERTAINS ONLY TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE. THE NOTICE IS THE MAIL DID NOT SPECIFY THE UNDERCARRIAGE. MY RUSTY PARTS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR RUST. IT IS NOT RIGHT THAT TOYOTA IS FINDING A WAY TO REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM ANY LIABILITY WITH THEIR VEHICLES DEVELOPING RUST OVER A QUICK PERIOD OF TIME. IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR RUST ON THE FRAME, THAT'S AN INDICATOR THAT TOYOTA USES POOR QUALITY PARTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE TO A HIGH SPEED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED WITH EXTREME FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) YEARS EARLIER; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
WHEN I'M SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT, THEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN. AND I HIT THE ACCELERATION THE CAR WOULD JERK. AND SAME THING WHEN I MAKE A LEFT TURN. IT WOULD JERK AND FEELS LIKE I HAVE NO ACCELERATION.
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN MAY 2011 WITH 60,000 MILES ON IT. IT CURRENTLY HAS 100,440 MILES ON IT.. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE FROM A DEALER, AN UNDER CAR INSPECTION INDICATED NO VISIBLE RUST TO SPEAK OF AND PAINT/FINISH WAS STILL PATENT ON REAR SUSPENSION, AT THE LAST OIL CHANGE OIL CHANGE, THE TECH NOTED THE EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE REAR SUSPENSION AND COMMENTED THAT HIS TOYOTA TUNDRA A FEW YEARS OLDER HAD A RECALL FOR SEVERE RUST AND REPLACEMENT FOR THE SAME THING, AND THAT THIS WOULD LIKELY BE SUBJECT TO A RECALL TOO IN TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TOYOTA DEALER TODAY FOR A FRAME INSPECTION UNDER THE EXTENDED FRAME WARRANTY AND THE FRAME WAS DECLARED FAULTY FOR A SMALL RUST THROUGH AREA AND WILL BE REPLACED. HOWEVER THE ENTIRE REAR SUSPENSION AND CROSS FRAME WERE SEVERELY RUSTED THROUGH AND CRUMBLING, WHICH THEY SAID WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE FRAME WARRANTY. THIS PRESENTS A SEVERE SAFETY SITUATION SINCE THIS SUSPENSION COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SINCE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED IN THE PAST ON TOYOTAS AND RESULTED IN A RECALL, IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AGAIN FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. AT NO TIME DURING OUR OWNERSHIP HAS IT BEEN IN OR NEAR SALT WATER, NOR EVER SUBMERGED IN FRESH WATER. IT'S STORED OUTSIDE ON AN ASPHALT DRIVEWAY YEAR ROUND AND USED PRIMARILY AS A BACK UP FOR OUR MAIN VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY THE DEALER REMOVED IT FROM THE HOIST BEFORE I COULD GET A PHOTO OF IT IN CURRENT CONDITION.
TWO SEATBELTS, BOTH FOR THE MIDDLE ROW BUCKET SEATS, FAILED. THEY BOTH STOPPED RETRACTING PROPERLY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. LUCKILY, WE WERE NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING ON I-15 IN UTAH WHEN MY PASSENGERS HEARD HONKING AND LOOKED AROUND. SUDDENLY A WHITE CAR SWERVED CLOSE TO ME AND CUT ME OFF. THE DRIVER WAS LOOKING DOWN AND CONTINUED TO SWERVE AROUND. THEN SLOWED AND PUT ON HER FLASHERS. SHE CONTINUED TO SWERVE AND THEN FOLLOWED US OFF THE FREEWAY. SHE STOPPED AT THE STOP LIGHT AND SAID WE HAD HIT HER. I SAID THAT WAS A LIE AND SHE HAD BEEN SWERVING INTO MY LANE AND PEOPLE WERE HONKING AT HER. WE DROVE TO IKEA AND SHE DID NOT FOLLOW. THEN I FILED THIS COMPLAINT. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY PASSENGERS. SHE WAS NOT FRIENDLY. I ATTACHED HER LICENSE NUMBER.
THE REAR LIFTGATE EXTERIOR HANDLE LITERALLY MELTS IN THE SUMMER AND FREEZES IN THE WINTER. IT MAKES IT SO THE REAR LIFTGATE DOESN'T OPEN AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T CLOSE. I RECENTLY GOT A RECALL NOTICE FOR EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES NOT OPERATING DUE TO THE ABOVE DESCRIBED MANLFUCTION BUT HALEY TOYOTA IN MIDLOTHIAN VIRGINIA SAID IT'S NOT COVERED. THEY SAID IT'S OVER $400 TO FIX.
ON 12/20/2016, I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO BILL WRIGHT TOYOTA AND HAD IT SERVICE. ALSO, I HAVE INFORMED BILL WRIGHT TOYOTA ADVISOR ABOUT THE MIDDLE ROW SEAT ARE MOVING. AFTER THE SERVICE, THE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE WELDING ON THE SEAT FRAME ARE BROKEN AND NEED TO BE REWELD. I ASKED THE ADVISOR IS THIS TOYOTA MANUFACTURING ISSUE AND ADVISOR GAVE ME THE NUMBER TO CONTACT TOYOTA DIRECTLY. AFTER CONTACTING TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND SPOKE TO YASMIN, AND SHE SAID THIS IS NOT COVERED BY TOYOTA. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA RESPONSIBLE SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. BEST REGARDS,
THE BACK COVER OF THE MIDDLE SEATS ARE BROKEN AND REMOVED.I TRIED TO REPLACE THEM BUT, I CAN NOT. THE IRONS THAT HOD THE SEAT ARE UNCORVERED AND NOT SAFE . WHEN PEOPLE ,IF THEY HAVE LONG LEGS I DO NOT THINK IT IS SAFE SAFE FOR THEM. THE CAR IS NOT ABLE TO PLAYER NEITHER RADIO NOR CDS. WHEN TRYING TO PLAY EITHER RADIO OR CD, IT MAKES A CRAZY NOISE. THE REAR LIFTGATE ON OUR 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA STARTED ACTING UP LATE MAY 2016. THE LIFTGATE LOCK ACTUATOR BEGAN GETTING STUCK AND VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN. NOW IT CANNOT BE OPENED BY NEITHER THE POWER LIFTGATE BUTTON NOR MANUALLY WITH THE HANDLE. WE CAN SEE THAT THERE IS EVIDENCE OF EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE ACTUATOR. IT HAS SEIZED AND ARE NOW VERY CONCERNED THAT IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE THROUGH THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SHOULD ALL OTHER EXITS ARE BLOCKED. NOT EVEN THE REAR WINDOW IS WORKING AND BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT AFFECTING THE COMPONENTS INSIDE THE LIFTGATE ITSELF. UPON RESEARCHING THE MATTER WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE. WE FEEL THIS WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE EXCESSIVE RUST/CORROSION AND MECHANICAL FAILURE.

I P/U THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY, PUT GAS AT COSTCO AND PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY ... ENROUTE TO TO LAS VEGAS; UPON ENTERING THE I-15 NORTH FREEWAY ( LESS THAN 2 HRS OF DRIVING ON D DRIVE ) LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. OUR FAMILY DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP US.
THIS TOYOTA SEQUOIA ALMOST KILL MY FAMILY OF 6, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING 30 TO 40 MILES, THE ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE CONCORD, CA TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION, THE TOYOTA SERVICE WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO THE CAR WAS RETURN BACK TO ME, TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER WAS ADVICE BY THE TOYOTA THERE IS NO PROBLEM, I EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND THIS PROBLEM, THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK WHILE DRIVING, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE CAR MAINTAINED THE SAME SPEED, MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY THE BRAKES AND FINALLY THE CAR STOP, BUT THE ENGINE RPM'S REMAIN HIGH AROUND 4000 RPM, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BREAK PEDAL UNSTUCK BY REVVING THE ENGINE IN THE NEURAL POSITION
THE REAR HATCH SWITCH PAD MELTS RENDERING THE HANDLE INOPERABLE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A DEFECT YET, MANY SEQUOIA OWNERS HAVE SAME COMPLAINT. TOYOTA SAYS OVER $400 TO REPAIR. TOYOTA DENIES THE REAR HATCH IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR DOORS 11/5/17

THE CONSUMER'S 7 YEAR OLD GRANDSON PULLED THE GEAR SHIFT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL INTO THE GARAGE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKED IT OUT OF GEAR. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED AN INJURED KNEE, SHOULDER, AND LOWER BACK. *JS

THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY AND CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S GARAGE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE AND REMEDY WERE UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE GEAR SHIFT, LOCATED BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT. THE GEAR SHIFT CAME OUT OF GEAR WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, VEHICLE OFF, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND HER FOOT NOT ON THE BRAKE. THE CONSUMER STATED HER GRANDSON KNOCKED THE VEHICLE OUT OF GEAR AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO HER GARAGE DOOR. ON MAY 26, 2016, AS THE CONSUMER WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE, SHE GRABBED HER PURSE AND IT ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE GEAR SHIFT AND KNOCKED THE GEAR INTO REVERSE AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO TOLL BACKWARDS. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS HALF WAY IN THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT BACK IN TO PARK. HOWEVER, WHILE DOING SO SHE INJURED HER RIGHT SHOULDER, LEFT KNEE, AND LOWER BACK. THE 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ONLY HAS 35,300 MILES ON IT AND WHILE IT WAS IN FOR OIL CHANGED AND ON THE RACK, THE MECHANIC NOTICED A SEVERE RUSTING ISSUE ON THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE HAS SEVERE RUST ON THE FRAME IN PARTICULAR THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY, INCLUDING THE WELDS THAT HOLD THE FRAME TOGETHER. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE ISSUE OF THE ROADS AND STRESS OF POTHOLES THAT THE FRAME AND WELDS COULD BECOME SEVERELY DAMAGED AND POSSIBLY BREAK OFF ON THE ROAD IN PARTICULAR AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN RUSTING THIS BAD SINCE THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRIES USE OF RECYCLED METALS. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE USE OF THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY.
EXSESSIVE RUST CAUSING SEIZED BOLTS RELATED TO SUSPENSION. CANNOT DO PROPER ALIGNMENT OR CHANGE LEAKING SHOCK WITHOUT MAJOR PARTS BEING CUT FROM FRAME.
THE REAR LIFT GATE HAS AN ELECTRONIC BUTTON THAT YOU PUSH TO OPEN. THIS IS COVERED BY A RUBBER THAT DEGRADES AND MELTS OVER A SHORT TIME, EXPOSING THE ELECTRONIC SWITCH WITCH HAS CONSTANT POWER, RESULTING IN WHAT COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD. IT ALSO FREEZES AND BECOMES INOPERABLE AT TIMES DURING COLD WEATHER AND THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO OPEN THE HATCH. IN THE SUMMER, IT BECOMES STICKY AND A MESS. I REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EFFECTS OF COLD TEMPERATURES. IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR USED. I HAVE NOTICED IT IS A POPULAR ITEM ON MANY TOYOTA WEBPAGES, AND NOT SPECIFIC TO JUST THE SEQUOIA MODEL.
THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT MECHANISM IS DEFECTIVE AND DOES NOT RECOIL CONSISTENTLY. WE ARE CONCERNED TO PUT OUR CHILDREN IN THIS PARTICULAR SEAT BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT SOMETIMES GETS JAMMED AND DOES NOT RECOIL MAKING FOR A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. WE CANNOT RELIABLY TRUST THIS EQUIPMENT. OUR VEHICLE HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE FOR IT'S AGE AND WE DO NOT BELIEVE THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS CAUSE BY US BECAUSE WE DO NOT ALWAYS DRIVE IT WITH PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT. I CALLED TOYOTA EXPERIENCE AND THEY SAID THAT MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT I COULD HAVE IT FIXED AT MY COST. I WAS HIT BY A LARGE TRUCK GOING 30MPH AND I WAS GOING 50MPH. HE HIT THE DRIVER SIDE ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE, ALL OF THE WINDOWS SHATTERED, WE SPUN THREE TIMES AND THEN HIT AGAIN. BOUGHT A BRITAX MARATHON XE E9LR31A BATCH: JOB0005290 MANUFACTURED 03/2014. I ATTACHED THE CAR SEAT PER THE DIRECTIONS ON THE MANUAL (REAR FACING) TO THE REAR CAPTAIN SEAT OF MY 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. I USED THE VERSA TETHER LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE CAR SEAT TO MAKE THE CAR SEAT MORE SECURE AND SECURED THE REMAINING PORTION WITH THE TETHER. THE REMAINING TETHER PORTION EVENTUALLY BECAME LOOSE AND UNKNOWINGLY BECAME LODGED IN THE RIGHT REAR DOOR WITH THE END STICKING OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR. WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET I HEARD A SOUND FROM THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AT WHICH TIME THE TETHER GOT CAUGHT UNDERNEATH THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AND PULLED THE CAR SEAT (WITH MY SON IN IT) TOWARDS THE DOOR AND ALMOST PHYSICALLY HURT MY SON AND ALMOST DAMAGED THE CAPTAIN SEAT OF MY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY MY SON WAS ONLY SCARED BY THE SITUATION AND NO PHYSICAL HARM WAS DONE TO HIM. THE CAPTAIN SEAT OF THE VEHICLE WAS SAVED BY THE SEAT PROTECTOR THAT HAS AN EXTREME INDENTION ON IT FROM THE FORCE THAT WAS APPLIED BY THE WHEEL CATCHING THE TETHER. THERE ARE ALSO MARKS IN THE PAINT AND SCRATCHES ON THE LOWER END OF THE RIGHT REAR DOOR WHERE THE TETHER WAS LODGED. THE VERSA TETHER ON THE REAR OF THE SEAT IS DANGEROUSLY LONG AND I WOULD SUGGEST SOME SORT OF FEATURE TO REDUCE THE LENGTH WITH SOMETHING BESIDES THE ELASTIC STRAP OR PROVIDE SEPARATE SIZES. THE SEATS BELT ON MY 2008 TOYOTA SEQUOIA STOPPED LATCHING. THEY ARE LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE REAR SECTION OF THE CAR. TWO OF THE THREE STOPPED WORKING WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. I AM AT THE DEALER (EASTERN SHORE TOYOTA) NOW AND THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE THE ONE NOT LATCHING. FOUND A LARGE (2" DIA.) WASHER ON THE DRIVEWAY AT REAR OF THE CAR AND LATER A LARGE APPROX. 3/4" BOLT HEAD ON THE DRIVEWAY AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, NOTED THAT THE FRONT BOLT ON THE RIGHT REAR CONTROL ARM WAS MISSING ITS HEAD. SUBSEQUENTLY HAD THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. REPLACE THE BOLT AT A COST OF ABOUT $110.00. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT PREVIOUSLY THAT I KNOW OF (WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED SUV WITH 60,000 MILES), NOR HAD IT BEEN SUBJECT TO ANY HARD USE OR ROUGH TRAVEL, NOR HAD IT HIT CURBING OR OTHER OBSTACLE DURING OUR USE. APPEARANCE OF THE SHEARED BOLT HEAD HAD INDICATED THAT STRESS CRACKING AND CORROSION HAD BEGUN PRIOR TO TOTAL FAILURE. THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE CONTROL ARM OR THE SITE WHERE THE BOLT CONNECTS IT TO THE FRAME. CONCLUSION WAS THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT EVENTUALLY FAILED UNDER REGULAR USE. *TR

ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE DUE TO FAILED RIGHT REAR ABS WHEEL SENSOR AND WIRING HARNESS. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WOULD INITIATE AT RANDOM TO INCLUDE WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WITHOUT ANY WHEEL SLIP. THE INITIATION OF TRACTION CONTROL WHILE ACCELERATING AND MERGING WITH TRAFFIC CAUSED SOME CLOSE CALLS WITH THE LOSS OF POWER AND DECELERATION OF MY CAR. AFTER RANDOM INITIATED THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE CAR WOULD HAVE NO ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, OR 4 WHEEL DRIVE. TOYOTA SERVICE WRITER STATED THAT THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON REPAIR DUE TO ISSUES WITH CORROSION. SERVICE WRITER KNEW THAT BOTH AN ABS SENSOR AND WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS A PAIR AS THIS REPAIR IS NOW "SO COMMON". IF TOYOTA KNOWS THAT THIS STANDARD SAFETY EQUIPMENT IS FAILING DUE TO CORROSION AND OBVIOUS DESIGN ISSUES THEY SHOULD BE REPLACING AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN RAIN GOING ABOUT 35-40 MPH ENTERING A CURVE WHEN I SAW A CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO HIT THE BRAKES BUT MY CAR ACTUALLY ACCELERATED TO 55-60 MPH HITTING THE VEHICLE FROM BEHIND. IT THREW THE CAR I HIT OVER 100-200 FEET OFF THE ROAD INTO A TREE. IT WAS NOT TOTALED EVEN THOUGH I HAD INSURANCE THAT WOULD HAVE TOTALLY REPLACED THE CAR WITH A NEW ONE IF IT WERE TOTALED. I FEEL THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT AND RANDOM PROBLEM. RADIO/DISC PLAYER TURNS ITSELF ON AND OFF GOING OVER BUMPS AND/OR WHEN CORNERING. SOMETIMES RADIO IS ON, BUT ALL DISPLAYS ARE BLANK, AND RADIO DOES NOT RESPOND TO ANY CONTROLS, INCLUDING THE POWER BUTTON. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM RESOLVES BY SHUTTING VEHICLE COMPLETELY DOWN AND RESTARTING. SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL RESTART CYCLES TO RESOLVE. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THIS "IS A KNOWN PROBLEM," BUT THAT "NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED." I REALIZE THIS DOESN'T RANK UP THERE WITH TIRES AND FUEL TANKS. NONETHELESS, HAVING AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT BEHAVE LIKE THIS MAKES ONE WONDER ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES FOR AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. ALSO, HAVING ANY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT BEHAVE THIS WAY DEFINITELY INCREASES THE RISK OF ACCIDENT DUE TO DRIVER DISTRACTION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
WE OWN A 2008 SEQUOIA. ON 3/13/10 THE LOCAL 1-10 TOYOTA DEALER IN INDIO, CA DID THE INITIAL "RECALL FIX" ON OUR SEQUIOA. MY HUSBAND WORKS IN ANZA, CA. ON HIS WAY HOME FROM WORK HE WAS DRIVING DOWNHILL ON ROUTE 74 (A VERY TREACHEROUS MOUNTAIN ROAD) AND THE RPM'S ON THE TOYOTA INCREASED AND WHEN HE SAW THEM GET OVER 3000 RPM'S HE TRIED TO BREAK. THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK AND THE RPM'S KEPT RISING. HE HIT THE BREAKS AGAIN AND THEY STILL DIDN'T WORK. HE LAID ON THEM THE 3RD TIME AND THEY FINALLY KICKED IN. WHEN HE GOT HOME HE TOLD ME WHAT HAPPENED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY ADVISED ME TO BRING THE CAR IN FIRST THING THE FOLLOWING DAY. WE RAN INTO SEVERAL BAD EXPERIENCES WITH HOW THE DEALER HAS HANDLED US DURING THE WEEK. THEY STILL HAVE THE VEHICLE AND TODAY IS 3/25/10. WE ASKED THEM FOR A FULL PEDAL REPLACEMENT AS WE RESEARCHED IT ON LINE AND SAW THAT WE WERE NOT ALONE IN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM EVEN AFTER THEY HAVE COMPLETED THEIR INITIAL "RECALL FIX". WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SEVERAL ISSUES. OUR PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT MY HUSBAND CAN NO LONGER TRUST DRIVING THIS CAR BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. WE FEEL WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRUST DRIVING IT EVEN AFTER WE GET IT BACK SINCE THIS IS THE 2ND FIX THEY HAVE DONE ON IT. WE ALSO ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE RESELL VALUE OF OUR VEHICLE AS WE HAVE SEEN ARTICLES STATING THAT KELLY BLUE BOOK IS CONFIRMING THAT THE RESELL VALUES ARE BEING EFFECTED. COULD A LAWYER POSSIBLY NEGOTIATE WITH TOYOTA ON OUR BEHALF TO REDUCE OUR LOAN SINCE WE ARE FINANCED THROUGH TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND OUR VEHICLE VALUE HAS BEEN REDUCED.

WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE LEFT REAR "VENT" WINDOW HAD ITS GLASS COME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE CHANNEL WHICH HOLDS IT, AND WAS DANGLING BY JUST A BOLT. UPON INSPECTING THE WINDOW, I FOUND THAT THE WINDOW'S ADHESIVE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, AND EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN WARRANTY, THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT CHARGING ME THE FULL REPAIR PRICE. THE RISK OF A GLASS WINDOW FALLING OFF OF A VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEED SEEMED VERY HIGH TO ME, BUT THE DEALER SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY PROBLEMS. *TR
