TOYOTA RELEASED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR 1995-2000 MODEL YEAR TACOMAS DUE TO FRAME ROT. I'VE HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THEIR TACOMAS BOUGHT BACK BY TOYOTA TO AVOID POTENTIAL SAFETY RISKS. TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO REPURCHASE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS A SALVAGE TITLE. I FEAR RSK OF FIRE SHOULD I BE HIT IN THE REAR AND MY FRAME FAILS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, HAVING NOTHING TO DUE WITH THE SALVAGE TITLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA INFORMING HIM THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. THE NOTICE ALSO INFORMED THE CONSUMERS THAT IF THEY INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND NOTICE EXCESSIVE RUST, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD REIMBURSE THEM FOR FINANCIAL LOSS AND POSSIBLY EXCHANGE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND IT FAILED. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYOTA STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING AN IDENTICAL FAILURE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY FINANCIAL LIABILITY BECAUSE THE TITLE WAS SALVAGED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 77,000. UPDATED 06/02/08 *BF
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER SHOWED THE CONTACT A SMALL HOLE IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE, LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE 1995-2000 TACOMA'S HAD UNDERCOATING FAILURES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL HER AND KEPT THE VEHICLE FROM MARCH 21-28, 2008; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. SHE RETRIEVED HER VEHICLE AND RETURNED THE LOANER THAT WAS PROVIDED ON MARCH 28, 2008. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 136,205 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,204.
2000 TOYOTA TACOMA V6, ONLY 80K MILES, TRUCK IS NOT GOING TO PASS INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME ROT! *TR
I RECEIVED A LETTER AROUND 2008 REGARDING FRAME ISSUES WITH MY 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. TOOK IT TO METRO TOYOTA IN KALAMAZOO, MI TO INSPECT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS OK. YEARS LATER, I SEE THAT THE FRAME ROTTED NEAR THE LEAF SPRING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE.
WE HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA SR5 XTRA CAB, 4 X 4. THE BODY IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. IT WENT IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE TODAY AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRAME RAILS HAVE ROTTED. THE FRAME IS UNSAFE AND BECAUSE OF THIS, WE WILL HAVE TO GET RID OF THE TRUCK. IT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING IN TALKING WITH THE DEALER, IT WILL BE GOING TO THE SALVAGE YARD, IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO US AS THE OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE, IT ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT! WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE THAT NOTHING HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN. IN NOVEMBER, 2007, I NOTICED A BANGING NOISE WHENEVER I DROVE OVER THE SMALLEST OF BUMPS. I EXAMINED THE OUTSIDE & THE UNDERSIDE OF THE 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK I HAD BEEN DRIVING SINCE NEW, & FOUND THE FOLLOWING: #1, THE TRUCK FRAME IS SEVERELY ROTTED WITH JAGGED, SHARP, IRREGULAR, PENETRATING HOLES IN THE FRAME - UP TO 6 INCHES IN LENGTH. #2, THE UNDERNEATH INSIDE OF THE TRUCK FRAME BOX BEAMS ARE COVERED WITH CORROSION & LARGE PIECES OF FRAME HAVE "FLAKED OFF"! #3, THE SEVEREST CORROSION EXTENDS FROM THE "CABIN FRONT AREA" TO THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS, ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. SIMILAR BUT SLIGHTLY LESSER CORROSION EXTENDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THIS TOYOTA TRUCK. #4, ONE REAR "CABIN MOUNTING BLOCK" ON THE FRAME, ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, HAS TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED, DROPPING THE CABIN DOWN ABOUT 1 INCH, DIRECTLY ONTO THE FRAME CAUSING MY BANGING SOUND! THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR "CABIN MOUNTING BLOCK" ON THE FRAME IS ABOUT 75% DISINTEGRATED! I FEAR THIS TRUCK MIGHT HAVE BECOME UNSAFE IN AN ACCIDENT, DUE TO THE POOR STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF ITS FRAME. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW, LOCALLY, NEVER EVEN PARTIALLY SUBMERGED IN WATER, & NEVER ABUSED. IT WAS ALWAYS INSPECTED & MAINTAINED BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, YEARLY, I BOUGHT IT FROM. IT WAS NEVER IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT, & THE ONLY DAMAGE IT EVER SUFFERED, ACCIDENT WISE, WAS A FENDER BEING STRUCK BY A DEER. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS 2000 TOYOTA TRUCKS EXHAUST SYSTEM IS STILL INTACT & ORIGINAL! I WOULD EXPECT THIS TRUCKS FRAME TO OUTLAST AN EXHAUST SYSTEM, AT THE LEAST! SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE STEEL &/OR FABRICATION OF THIS PARTICULAR TOYOTA TACOMA'S FRAME, CALLING FORTH A SAFETY QUESTION. THIS TRUCK, AT THE TIME, HAD 97,361 MILES ON IT. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW 7 YR'S AGO! I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER WITH THESE FACTS, WITH A REQUEST FOR A "FRAME INSPECTION", THE DEALER SAID THE TRUCK IS "OUT-OF-WARRANTY", & CANNOT BE REPAIRED! *TR
PREMATURE FRAME DETERIORATION. *TR
MY 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME IS ROTTING PREMATURELY. LARGE PIECES OF FRAME ARE FALLING OFF OF VEHICLE. I KNOW OF MANY 99/00 TACOMA'S THAT ARE ROTTING AND SOMEONE MAY BE KILLED. ROT IS OCCURRING MOSTLY IN NORTH EAST DUE TO SEVERE WINTERS. TOYOTA WILL NOT ADMIT THAT 7 YEAR OLD TACOMA'S ARE POSING A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE SNOW BELT. I HAVE PICTURES OF A TACOMA THAT HAD HUGE HOLES IN THE FRAME AND IT COULD NOT BE SALVAGED. *TR
THE FRAME ON OUR 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA TOTALLY ROTTED OUT. IT PASSED 2006 STATE INSPECTION AND AFTER BEING MAINTAINED BY A TOYOTA DEALER IT WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT PASS 2007 STATE INSPECTION. THERE ARE GAPING HOLES IN THE FRAME ON THE INSIDE. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE SALVAGED AT 7 YEARS OLD. OTHER MAKE AND MODEL TRUCKS OF THIS AGE ARE NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THIS CONDITION. WHY IS TOYOTA NOT LIABLE TO INFORM TACOMA OWNERS OF THIS DEFECT. WE RETAINED PICTURES OF THE EXTREME DAMAGE TO THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE INNER FRAME RAIL WAS CORRODED. THE CORROSION DESTROYED THE STEEL ON THE LEAF SPRING SHACKLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT ROAD SALT CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF OCTOBER 11, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 115,312.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY BEGAN ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY SERVICE STATION AND DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY CABLE CONNECTER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000. UPDATED 12/07/09. *LJ UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HOUSING CLIP HAD FAILED AND WAS PULLING THE ACCELERATOR. UPDATED 12/08/09
BROUGHT MY 2000 TACOMA EXTENDED CAB 2WD PU IN TO MIDAS FOR A MUFFLER REPLACEMENT. WHILE ON THE HOIST THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED EXTREME RUST ON FRAME RAIL THAT HAD BROKEN THROUGH ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR. THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THIS VEHICLE WITH ONLY 87K MILES ON IT IS NOW THREATENED. HAVE READ THAT THIS IS NOW BEING REPORTED BY MANY PEOPLE. TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE. *JB
WE PURCHASED 4 LT235/75R 15 LRC BIG FOOT A/T DUAL TIRES AT $172.79 A PIECE 3/14/06, SPENDING $787.31. SUNDAY 6/24/07 ON HIGHWAY 40 AT A SPEED LIMIT OF 75MPH, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT, ALMOST FLIPPING US OVER, WHICH WOULD HAVE CREATED ENORMOUS DAMAGE TO OURSELVES AND OUR VEHICLE. LUCKILY, I STABILIZED THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD. TUESDAY 6/26/07 WE WENT TO BIG O TIRES AT 2010 E. LAKE MEAD BLVD, NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV TO GET A REPLACEMENT. MANNY WAS APPARENTLY UNABLE TO LOCATE A REPLACEMENT TIRE, DESPITE CHECKING THROUGHOUT LAS VEGAS AND CALIFORNIA. HOW CAN BIG O SELL TIRES WITH A SUPPOSED GUARANTEE WHEN THEY CAN'T LOCATE ANY SUCH TIRES WITH WHICH TO REPLACE THEM? THIS MORNING MANNY PUT ON ANOTHER BRAND TIRE, SUPPOSEDLY OF EQUIVALENT VALUE AND DURABILITY. IT IS A P, NOT LT, TIRE?HOW IS THAT EQUIVALENT? IT HAS A SPEED RATING OF S VS. THE REST OF THE TIRES HAVE A SPEED RATING OF Q. AND ON THE BIG O TIRE WEB SITE IT STATES, ?NEVER MIX TIRES WITH DIFFERENT SPEED RATINGS, AS THIS MAY CAUSE SERIOUS HANDLING PROBLEMS.? SO MUCH FOR EQUIVALENCE! FURTHERMORE, IT IS A SPECTOR ADVANTA TIRE, AND I CAN FIND ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET AS TO WHO MAKES THIS TIRE. WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY AM I GOING TO HAVE ON THE TIRE? I HAVE ANOTHER TOYOTA TRUCK, WHICH ALSO HAD A TIRE BLOW-OUT, THE DAY AFTER THE ONE MENTIONED ABOVE. THESE TIRES CAME WITH OUR ABOVE TRUCK AND WERE NOT BIG O TIRES. THE STORE MANAGER SUGGESTED THE TIRES WERE STARTING TO DRY ROT, SO THEREFORE I PURCHASED 4 BRAND NEW TIRES FROM HIM FOR THAT TRUCK. HE SOLD ME PRIME WELL TIRES, AND I HAD TO PAY FOR A ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN A PURCHASE OF BIG O TIRES. HE?S CHECKED OFF THAT IT?S A THREE-YEAR ROAD-HAZARD 40,000 MILE WARRANTY. IN THE SMALL PRINT IT SAYS, ?EVERY NEW TIRE SOLD BY BIG O TIRES?CARRIES A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY AGAINST MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP?? IS THAT THE MILEAGE WARRANTY? BY THE MANUFACTURER, GITI, IN CHINA? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS MILDLY RUSTED. TWO YEARS LATER, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RUST ON A PORTION OF THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
IN 2006, THE GAS PEDAL BROKE AWAY FROM THE FIREWALL IN OUR 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, WITH NO REFERRALS. WE TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC WHO WELDED ON A METAL PLATE TO ATTACH THE GAS PEDAL. IN 2008, WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA CORP. EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR RUST AND CORROSION ON THE FRAMES OF TOYOTA TACOMAS YEARS 1995 THROUGH 2000, WITH A BUY BACK PROGRAM. REPAIRS WERE TO BE DONE TO GET THE SMOG DONE, BUT OUR MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DAMAGE FROM CORROSION AND CRACKING WERE TOO DANGEROUS FOR US TO DRIVE IT, THAT THE THROTTLE WILL BREAK NEXT. HE CLAIMED THE REASON WAS THE METAL WAS NOT TEMPERED RIGHT AT THE MANUFACTURER WHEN THE TRUCK WAS BUILT. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, WHO TOLD US THAT THEY SAW THE CRACKING AND DAMAGE, AND NEVER HAD SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THAT BEFORE, IT DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE WARRANTY GUIDELINES. THEY ONLY SAID THEY COULD OFFER US A 'DEAL" FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH WE REFUSED. OUR MECHANIC CLAIMS THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE IN THE FRONT WILL NOT WITHSTAND A COLLISION. INCIDENTALLY, THE GAS PEDAL BROKE AWAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY! *TR UPDATED 01/21/09. *JB
MY 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER WILL LUNGE FORWARD WHEN I AM STOPPED AND MY FOOT IS ON THE BREAK PEDAL. IT HAPPEN WHEN A/C IS ON. *TR
THE TRUCK BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD BANGING SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I FOUND THE LEFT (DRIVERS SIDE) LEAF SPRING HAD BROKEN AND THEN TWISTED AND WEDGED UNDERNEATH THE SKIDPLATE TO THE GAS TANK. I HAD TO USE A CHISEL TO GET THE BROKEN SPRING OUT FROM UNDER THE GAS TANK. *JB
REPORT PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM OF MY TOYOTA TACOMA (2000). THE INITIAL PROBLEM AS DEFINED: AS I BEGIN A TRIP, THE BRAKES OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE ABS SYSTEM LIGHT IS NOT ILLUMINATED. FREQUENTLY, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT ANY GIVEN TIME DURING A SINGLE TRIP (USUALLY AT SPEEDS OF 5 TO 25 MILES PER HOUR), THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS AS IF IT IS SKIPPING, THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AS EXPECTED, UNTIL I PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. AT THAT POINT, THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND THERE ARE NO MORE PROBLEMS BRAKING FOR THE REMAINDER OF THAT SINGLE TRIP. AT THE TIME OF SERVICE, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS AND THAT THERE WERE TWO PARTS WHICH NEED TO BE REPLACED: LEFT SIDE FRONT SPEED SENSOR AT A COST OF $255.43 ABS ACTUATOR AT A COST OF $1207 LABOR $240 SINCE THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 66K MILES AND THERE WAS NO CHANCE THAT DRIVER ERROR COULD HAVE CAUSED THESE PARTS TO BE FAULTY, I REQUESTED THE DEALER ELEVATE THIS PROBLEM THE TOYOTA AREA REPRESENTATIVE FOR COST COVERAGE OF REPAIRS. THIS REQUEST WAS DECLINED WITHOUT EXPLANATION. THE DEALER'S STAND WAS THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY STAND IS THAT EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS, I CAN'T BE CERTAIN OF MY STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH MAKES MY VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO STRIKE A ANOTHER CAR IN THE REAR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY TO SAY THE LEAST. I WAS FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. TO RESPOND TO THE DEALERS POINT, EVEN IF MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, HAD THERE BEEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, PERSONAL INJURY TO MYSELF OR PASSENGERS IN THE OTHER VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN EMINENT. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HEARD A LOUD EXPLODING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE HOOD WAS OPENED TO CHECK THE ENGINE. AND WHEN THE OIL FILTER WAS REMOVED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE IN THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WOULD NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PAYMENT FIRST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE COST. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. *AK
DT: WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH, WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER THE RIGHT FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE CAME OFF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRE, THE BALL BEARING, ROTOR, ETC WAS THERE BUT THE SHAFT WAS BROKEN IN HALF. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. MECHANICS OBSERVED THAT THE SHAFT HAD BROKEN IN HALF AND HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING OF THIS SORT. NO REPAIRS HAVE YET TO BE MADE. INFECT, THE ROTOR AND THE BALL BEARING, NUT ARE STILL ON THE TIRE. *AK
PROBLEM: DEFECTIVE REAR LEAF SPRINGS. ON 4/27/05 HAD RIGHT REAR LEAF SPRING REPLACED, MILEAGE ON VEH. 51261 ON 7/18/06 HAD LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING REPLACED, MILEAGE ON VEH. 56,586 BOTH LEAF SPRINGS NEEDED REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THEY RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THE STEEL BANDS WHICH HELD THEM TOGETHER BROKE. I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HWY EACH TIME A LEAF SPRING BROKE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT ONE OF THE LEAFS DIDN'T SWING INTO THE REAR WHEELS, IF SO IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED THE VEH. NEW, I'M THE SOLE DRIVER, IT'S USED SOLELY FOR TRANSPORTATION , NEVER USED FOR CONSTRUCTION OR OFF ROAD PURPOSES. I BELIEVE TOYOTA USED VERY POOR QUALITY STEEL IN MAKING THESE LEAF SPRINGS & BANDS OR A POOR HEAT TREATING PROCESS TO STRENGTHEN THE STEEL OR BOTH. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD. AFTER I WARMED THE TRUCK UP & STUT IT OFF,UPON RESTART EVERY THING WAS NORMAL. I TALKED TO RICK TONNILLI AT THE DEALER.HE WAS VERY UNDERSTANDING & TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO TALK TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER.I WAS CALLED BACK IN A FEW DAYS WITH TOYOTA PICKING UP THE COST OF THE PART & I PICKING UP ONE HOUR OF LABOR@ 85.00$.I AGREED TO THIS JUST TO THE PROBLEM FIXED.WESTBORO TOYOTA HAS BEEN VERY EXCELLENT & COOPERATIVE & I HAVE NO COMPLANTS FROM THEM. MY QUSTION IS THAT WITH THE LIGHT ON THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS WOULD TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM? *AK

WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY THERE WAS CRACKING, THEN A METALLIC CLUNKING NOISE. THE CONSUMER SLOWED THE TRUCK DOWN, DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE TRUCK. THE NEXT MORNING , THE CONSUMER COULD VISUALLY SEE THE BROKEN LEAF SPRING, BECAUSE THE SPRING WAS STICKING INTO THE GAS TANK, BUT DIDN'T PENETRATE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED TWO DEALERSHIP WHO INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE SPRING BROKE BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW, DUE TO THE SPRINGS BEING ASSEMBLED IN CORRECTLY. IF THE TRUCK WAS TOWING A TRAILER AT THE TIME OF FAILURE, THIS COULD OF RESULTED IN A ROLL OVER. *NM

ENGINE SEIZURE AT 45MPH WITHOUT WARNING! I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 WITH THE V-6 ENGINE IN QUESTION! AT SPEEDS ABOVE 35 MPH, AND ON DE-ACCELERATION ONLY, A LOUD SQUEALING COULD BE HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IT ONLY MADE THE NOISE ON DE-ACCELERATION. HAD TO BRING TO THE DEALER TWICE TO GET FIXED. DEALER WAS STUMPED AND ONLY FOUND A FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR. THAT SEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM.
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION AT 35 MPH AND SEAT BELT DID NOT WORK PROPERLY AFTER SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES, CONSUMER WAS STILL ABLE TO BE THROWN FORWARD, AND HIT HIS SHOULDERS AND CHEST. SINCE THEN NO PROBLEMS YET WITH TURN SIGNAL. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE OF FAILURE: 25,600. IN ADDITION, THE FLOOR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE ALWAYS GETS WET/DAMP WHEN VEHICLE IS WASHED OR WHEN IT RAINS. PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND VEHICLE CUT OUT DURING THREE ATTEMPTS TO PULL OFF IN FIRST GEAR AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE IS DRIFTING BACKWARD WITH NO BRAKING AT ALL, AND PEDAL LOCKED IN THE UP POSTION. CAN DUPLICATE! WITH KEY IN IGNITION AND ENGINE OFF, BRAKE PEDAL LOCKS IN UP POSITION AND BRAKING SYSTEM WILL NOT STOP VEHILCE. WITHOUT KEY IN IGNITION MANUAL BRAKING WORKS! WITH KEY IN THE ACC POSTION, AND VEHICLE NOT RUNNING, POWER BRAKES LOCKED IN UP POSITION AND NO BRAKING POSSIBLE!!! TURN KEY OFF, TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION, AND MANUAL BRAKING STOPS VEHICLE!! POWER BRAKING APPEARS TO DISABLE MANUAL BRAKING, EVEN WITH POWER BRAKE INOPERABLE DUE TO ENGINE BEING OFF, EITHER TURNED OFF OR CONKED OUT!!
I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF A PROBLEM I RECENTLY HAVE HAD WITH A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA PICK-UP. I HAVE 15000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND RECENTLY ON A LONG ROAD TRIP I RECEIVED A FLAT DUE TO A NAIL ON THE HIGHWAY. IN CHANGING THE TIRE I SNAPPED 2 LUG STUDS. NOW I HAVE OWNED TRUCK FOR 20 PLUS YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SNAPPED A LUG OFF A WHEEL. I HAD IT SERVICED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO TOO MUCH TORQUE AND STILL FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE. I CANT IMAGINE THAT I COULD GIVE THIS THAT MUCH TORQUE WITH A TIRE IRON TO SNAP OFF THE STUDS. I FEEL IT IS POOR QUALITY STEEL OR A FAILURE IN THE STEEL DESIGN ITSELF. I AM VERY CONCERN FOR FUTURE LUGS BREAKING WHEN TRAVELING AND FEAR A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD.
