I FOUND A HOLE IN THE FRAME AND WAS ADVISED AS TO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE. I LEARNED THAT A RECALL HAD EXPIRED ONLY 6 MONTHS AGO AND WAS NOT GOING TO BE REPAIRED FROM TOYOTA. $12000 WAS ESTIMATE AND I COMPLAINED THAT I WAS NEVER CONTACTED. I AM THE SECOND OWNER BUT HAD MAINTAINED VEHICLE TO KEEP FOR MANY YEARS. I AM ON SOC SECURITY AND THIS HAS BEEN A HARDSHIP ON ME. I HOPE THERE IS A WAY OF COMPENSATING ME OR HELPING ME AS THE DEALER OFFERED HALF OF BLUE BOOK FOR A TRADE IN. THANK YOU
THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN, THE FRAME ON OUR TOYOTA TRUCK HAS BEEN DISCOVERED BY OUR MECHANIC AS RUSTED OR CORRODED TO AN EXTEND OF UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. TOYOTA IN RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT REPLACED THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER AS A SAFETY RECALL THAT NEVER EXPIRES, HOWEVER, THEY ARE TELLING ME THE FRAME IS NO LONGER UNDER A WARRANTY AND IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. THE SUGGESTED I LODGE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA AS THEY ARE UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO DO SOMETHING FOR US. I UPLOADED 5 PICTURES, NOT SURE IF THEY ARE ALL THERE
THE FRAME HAS MANY HOLES IN IT. WAS JUST TOLD BY MECHANIC WHEN WENT IN FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL WORK. THEY AS I WERE SURPRISED AS THE BODY SHOWS NO SIGNS OF RUST. THEY DID NOT COMPLETE WORK AS THEY SAID FRAME SO BAD IT IS UNSAFE. I HAVE OWNED OTHER 2003 AND 2004 TACOMA'S OVER THE YEARS WHICH HAD FRAMES RECALLED. THIS ONE DOES NOT HAVE THE FRAME RECALL AND I AM WONDERING IS THIS A MISTAKE OR WHY NOT?

FRAME IS RUSTY BEYOND USAGE. AS I ACCELERATE THE BED OF THE TRUCK FLEXES SO I CAN SEE IT IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR
MY 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA WAS "RECALLED FOR UNDERCOATINHG" WHICH WAS DONE 02/11. IN 2017, ON ADVICE FROM MY PRIVATE, PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC HE INFORMED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA ABOUT CORROSIVE RUSTING OF FRAME. IT WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, I PURCHASED IT FROM. IN 2018, IT WAS INSPECTED AND, PASSED, AGAIN. 2 WEEKS AGO, I FOUND A CRACK IN MY FRAME, SLIGTLY IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR, TIRE WELL, BY GAS TANK. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO A DEALERSHIP, FOR FRAME INSPECTION TOMORROW. I DON'T FEEL SAFE, DRIVING IT. I'M DISABLED AND, I AM THE TRUCKS 2ND OWNER. I PURCHASED MY 04 IN, 2006. IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION. MILEAGE, 122,500. IRONICALLY, THE TIRE HANGER PLATE HAS BEEN RECALLED AND, REPLACED AROUND 2014. IN 2017 MY PROTECTIVE PLATE, FELL AND, DROPPED THE GAS TANK. IT WAS, BROKEN IN 1/2. MY MECHANIC SECURED IT AND, UPON INSPECTION IT PASSED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO REPLACE THE PROTECTIVE PLATE AND, I WAS TOLD "NO." I ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION AND, WASN'T GIVEN ONE. IT WAS THE SAME DEALERSHIP THAT "UNDERCOATED," MY TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK PERFORMED A 2+HR INSPECTION ON THE FRAME IN 2017. THE DEALERSHIP THAT "UNDERCOATED," MY TRUCK ONLY HAD IT IN THE REPAIR AREA, FOR 15MINS AND, BROUGHT IT BACK OUT, STATING THEY "HAMMER-TESTED" IT AND, IT WAS IN GREAT SHAPE? I'M WORRIED SICK OVER MY OUTCOME, TOMORROW. I'M IN NO FINANCIAL POSTION TO REPLACE MY TRUCK. A TRUCK I WAS TOLD WOULD LAST UP TO 300,000'MILES. I DID COMPLAIN TO TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS IN 2018, WAS GIVEN A CLAIM NUMBER I CALLED THEM WHEN I FOUND THE CRACK, IN THE LEFT-SIDE, REAR OF MY FRAME, THIS, PAST FRIDAY. I HAD BEEN HEARING A "RATTLE," FROM BENEATH MY TRUCK, THE LAST FEW TIMES, I HAD DRIVEN IT. I BARELY HAD TO BEND OVER, TO SEE THE CRACK IN MY FRAME! THIS IS A HORRIFICLY, DANGEROUS CONDITION. (IT WAS PARKED AND, NOT RUNNING, WHEN I FOUND THE CRACK, IN THE FRAME.
2004 TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME RUSTED THROUGH, HOLE YOU CAN PUT HAND THROUGH. TOYOTA NEVER ISSUED RECALL, CLAIMS CORROSION CAMPAIGN WAS OVER. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. TOYOTA SAYS I AM ON MY OWN FOR REPLACEMENT. FOUND ISSUE AT MY BROTHER'S HAD TO LEAVE TRUCK UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WILL ADD PHOTOS AFTER I GET BACK TO VEHICLE.

I HAD TIRES ROTATED,TECHNICIAN TOLD ME FRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTED(TACOMA PROBLEM) BIG SAFETY PROBLEM.TOYOTA TOLD ME THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT FOR 98,-- DOLLARS. I DON'T THINK THAT'S RIGHT. TOYOTA PROBLEM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTOLAND (170 US-22, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ 07081, (800) 288-6526) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1904301385. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. *BF
THE DEALER DISCOVERED HOLES IN THE FRAME ON 3/26/19. ACTUALLY IT WAS IN FOR REPAIR OF A GAS TANK STRAP AND I BELIEVE THEY USED A HAMMER ON THE FRAME TO MAKE THE HOLES. THEY WROTE IT UP AS MY TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT ONLY HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT AND OTHER WISE IN GREAT SHAPE. I HAD IT IN FOR A RECALLED RUSTED SPARE TIRE HOLDER ON 2/11/15 AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE FRAME LOOKED OK AND IF THE FRAME DEVELOPS HOLES THEY CAN RECOMMEND A GOOD WELDER.
2004 TOYOTA TACOMA, TOOK TRUCK IN TO BE PAINTED WAS INFORMED THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE BASEBALL SIZE HOLES IN THE FRAME AND THE LEAF SPRING MOUNTS ARE RUSTED AND LEAF SPRINGS ARE ABOUT TO POP OFF. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA CORP, AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE TRUCK WAS NOT SPRAYED THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE FRAME. I RECENTLY ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED ON THIS TRUCK. TOYOTA AT THIS POINT IS REFUSING TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE FRAME EVEN THOUGH THIS TRUCK ORIGINATED AND REMAINED IN A COLD CLIMATE STATE FOR MOST OF ITS EXISTENCE. PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE ARE ANY OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO HAVE TOYOTA HONOR THIS VEHICLE. THANK YO U

FRAME RUSTING OUT EVEN AFTER HAVING UNDERCOAT SPRAYED IN PREVIOUS RECALL, AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL HAVING THEIR FRAME REPLACED BY TOYOTA UNDER A RECALL, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THERE IS NOT RECALL AND TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING.
TOOK TRUCK IN FOR INSPECTION AND THE FRAME IS DETERIORATING TO THE POINT THE BED IS BECOMING DETACHED FROM THE FRAME AND SEPARATING FROM THE CAB. THE SUSPENSION IS COMING LOOSE FROM THE MOUNTS. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THE MECHANIC HAS SEEN WITH DETERIORATION. THESE TRUCKS ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE!!
My 2004 Toyota Tacoma was part of the frame replacement back in the fall of 2018 when Bobby Rahal Toyota in Mechanicsburg, PA has by truck for over 6 months while they replaced my frame. It has been determined that my rear differential is rusted and is now to the point of needing replaced. For over the last year I have tried working with Bobby Rahal to come to and understanding on having this repaired due to the fact that my mechanic believes that this rust is in fact the same issue as the frame and should have been replaced when the frame was. All they will tell me is that the recall is closed and there is nothing they can do. Very disappointed in the fact that this was handled when it should have been. Now I am stuck trying to figure out how to pay for this myself. I have taken very good care of my truck for over 21 years and there is no reason for me to have to pay out of pocket for something that they should have taken care of during the recall. I don't have a lift to check the underneath of my truck, I trust when there is a recall that the dealership will do its job and fix everything safely and not put an unsafe vehicle back on the road and wait until a vehicle rusts completely through. Bobby Rahal was also inspecting the truck at this time so they knew the rear differential was rusted. My current mechanic said the Rear differential has been rusted since the time they replaced the frame and and has been for many years. It is irresponsible for Bobby Rahal Toyota to have not replaced the Rear differential axel knowing it was rusted and unsafe.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA AND TOOK IT IN FOR AN INSPECTION OF THE FRAME FOR UNDERCOATING. THE BODY SHOP NOTED SEVERE CORROSION OF THE FRAME WITH SUSPENSION PARTS THAT ARE ALSO FULL OF CORROSION. I WAS TOLD THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THIS RUST ISSUE. I WAS TOLD IF THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THERE WOULD BE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH BECAUSE OF THIS RUST/CORROSION. I NEED THE MANUFACTURER TO TAKE CARE OF THIS FOR SOME REASON THIS VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS NOT RECALLED BUT THE BODY SHOP STATED THIS SHOULD HAVE HAD A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS FRAME DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST THAT IS NOTED UNDER THE VEHICLE ON THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION PARTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000.
TAKATA RECALL, I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA . ON NOVEMBER 2ND I WAS DRIVING HOME , WAS AT A 4WAY STOP, ONCE IT WAS MY TURN TO GO I ACCELERATED AS USUAL AND HAD MY TIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DETACH COMPLETELY FROM THE BALL JOINT CAUSING ME TO NEARLY WRECK MY TRUCK, IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER I WOULD HAVE, THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST SCARIEST EXPERIENCES I HAVE EVER HAD DRIVING! IT COST ME NEARLY 1000.00 DOLLARS TO FIX AND NOW I AM HAVING TO HAVE THE OTHER PASSENGER SIDE FIXED BECAUSE THE MECHANIC SAYS IT'S HAMMERED...I NOTICED THAT OVER 150,000 TACOMA'S WERE RECALLED DUE TO THIS EXACT PROBLEM, WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN IT SAYS I HAVE NO I REPAIRED RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE! WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS NOT TRUE, OR MY BALK JOINTS WOULD BE GOOD TO GO, I HAVE NEVER TAKEN MY TRUCK OFF ROAD OR EVEN HAD IT IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE, I HAVE NOT BEAT ON MY TRUCK I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF MY VEHICLE, I FEEL THIS BALL JOINT PROBLEM SHOULD OF BEEN PART OF YOUR RECALL , I COULD OF BEEN SEVERELY HURT OR EVEN DIED AS WELL AS MY SON WHO WAS RIDING WITH ME, THANK GOD WE WEREN'T...I AM PREPARED TO TURN YOU INTO THE BBB IF I DONT GET A REASONABLE RESPONSE
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the passenger’s side axle fractured and the wheel detached. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the ball joints. The local dealer was not contacted. On another occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver’s side axle fractured and the wheel detached. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the ball joints however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V225000 (Suspension). The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
2004 TOYOTA TACOMA XTRACAB. CONSUMER WRITE WITH CONCERN TO VEHICLE NOT BEING COVERED UNDER FRAME PERFORATION WARRANTY EXTENSION. *AS *JS
SEPTEMBER 29, 2018 I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE MY TACOMA'S FRONT END WOULD FEEL LIKE IT WOULD FLOAT OFF THE GROUND OR LIFT UP OFF THE INTERSTATE. I MADE IT BACK TO THE TOWN I LIVE IN AND STOPPED AT A GAS STATION FOR SOME GAS. AS I LEFT, TO GO PICK UP MY FIANC AND OUR 2 GIRLS TO GET BACK ON THE INTERSTATE AND DRIVE BACK WITH THEM TO WHERE I JUST WAS. I GOT ABOUT 3 BLOCKS FROM THE GAS STATION AS I WAS GOING 30 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY RIGHT FRONT END GOES DOWN AS IF A TIRE BLEW. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AND WENT TO LOOK WHAT HAPPEN. I FOUND THAT I DON'T HAVE A FLAT TIRE BUT THAT MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE IS LYING ON ITS SIDE UNDER THE REAR OF THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT EACH SNAPPED IN HALF WHICH CAUSED MY TIRE TO BREAK LOOSE AND CAUSED ME TO SKID DOWN THE ROAD. THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE SHAFT, OUTER TIE ROD, STABILIZER BAR LINKS, SPINDLE KNUCKLE WERE ALL DESTROYED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SO WHEN I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE HEADING HOME TO GET MY FAMILY AND KEPT FEELING LIKE THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK WOULD RANDOMLY FLOAT UP WAS MORE THAN LIKELY BECAUSE MY LOWER BALL JOINT WAS ALREADY BROKEN APART. WHICH DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE PUT ENOUGH STRESS ON THE UPPER BALL JOINT. THAT CAUSED THE UPPER BALL JOINT TO BREAK WHEN IT DID. TO THINK IF IT THE TIRE STAYED ON TILL I PICKED UP MY FAMILY AND GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 3 GIRLS AND THAT TIRE BROKE OFF.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VALLEY HI TOYOTA (14612 VALLEY CENTER DRIVE, VICTORVILLE, CA 92395, 866-405-5098), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 178,468.
ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO IVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO PRICE TOYOTA IN NEW CASTLE DE FOR A FRAME INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CALL THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURE ABOUT THE FRAME RECALL ISSUE BUT THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME AND JUST RECENTLY IVE HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND FOUND A CRACK IN THE FRAME.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO IRA TOYOTA OF DANVERS (99 ANDOVER ST, DANVERS, MA 01923, (978) 739-8300) WHERE AN ANTI-CORROSION SPRAY WAS APPLIED TO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME ABOVE THE REAR TIRES WAS COMPLETED RUSTED AND IN A DANGEROUS STATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER (TOYOTA OF STAMFORD, 909 E MAIN ST, STAMFORD, CT 06902, (203) 348-3751) CONFIRMED THE MANUFACTURER'S STATEMENT AND SCHEDULED A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH SEVERE CORROSION UNDERNEATH THE FRAME. IT IS NOT SAFE AND COULD CRACK AT ANYTIME. ESPECIALLY WHERE THE LEAF SPRING MEETS THE FRAME, I CAN LOOSE THE REAR END.
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. The contact had taken the vehicle to Kolosso Toyota (3000 W Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54914) to have his exhaust replaced. While there, he was informed that the entire sub frame was corroded with several cracks and holes had formed around both front leaf springs. The mechanic informed him that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the failure. Prior to the failure, the contact took the vehicle to another local dealer where the vehicle was inspected under NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V225000 (Suspension). The contact was informed that a special coating was sprayed onto the sub frame to prevent corrosion; however, the recall remedy failed to prevent the corrosion. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 51,641.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINT FRACTURED. THE CONTACT LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER AND BRAKE, AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROADWAY AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 158,000. *TT
TAMARA RECALL, MY 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA 4 WHEEL DRIVE CHASSIS HAS BROKEN ON ME TWICE SENSE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM A USED DEALERSHIP, AND THE CHASSIS IS ALSO CRACKED AGAIN ON MY BACK DRIVERS SIDE, WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK I WASN'T TOLD THAT THE CHASSIS WAS RUSTED AND THEY HAD COVERED IT UP. I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY TO GET IT REPLACED OR WHAT I NEED TO DO, MY ODOMETER IS SHOWING ONLY 118686 ON IT RIGHT NOW. I'M CONCERNED IF I WERE TO BE IN A WRECK THAT THERE WOULD BE A WORSE OUTCOME VERSES THE CHASSIS NOT BEING RUSTED. WHEN THE CHASSIS BROKE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING, THE EXHAUST HAS BROKEN OFF AS WELL BECAUSE OF RUST. NOW THE TRUCK SQUEAKS REALLY BAD AND MY SPARE TIRE IS ABOUT TO BREAK OFF AS WELL I BELIEVE. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF I COULD GET IT FIXED. I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH OF THE CHASSIS IS RUSTED OR HOW BAD IT US DUE TO THEM COVERING IT UP. BOTH TIMES THE CHASSIS HAS BROKEN HAVE BEEN WHEN ON A CITY STREET I HAVEN'T DONE AN INSURANCE CLAIM ON IT EITHER, THE SECOND TIME IT BROKE I WAS ALSO BRAKING THE TRUCK. I DON'T KNOW THE NUMBER OF THE RECALL. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN MARCH AND ALL THIS HAPPENED IN MAY AND JUNE AND I'M AFRAID IT'S GONNA HAPPEN AGAIN IF IT'S NOT REPLACED AND DUE TO ME MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT AND IT BEING MY DAILY DRIVER I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DUE SENSE I CANNOT SALE IT. BOUGHT A 2004 TACOMA NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE FRAME RECALL. THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM HAD PUDDIED THE FRAME TO MAKE IT LOOK SOLID. NOW I'VE GOT AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. SOMETHING THAT COULD KILL PEOPLE SHOULDN'T EXPIRE.OR TOYOTA SHOULD BUY IT BACK SINCE WHOEVER OWNED IT BEFORE NEVER TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. TAKATA RECALL FRAME IS RUSTED
PURCHASED 04 TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 ONLYNTO LATER FIND FRAME ROT BY THE SHOCKS AND WHEELS. I DIDN'T SEE THIS INITIALLY UPON INSPECTION. I THOUGHT THERE WAS ONLY SURFACE RUST UNTIL I HAD THE TRUCK ON A LIFT FOR INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED OF PERFORATIONS. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT WON'T PASS INSPECTION. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA'S CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT ONLY INCLUDED 05-10 TACOMA'S. ALSO FOUND THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THAT EXPIRED. TOYOTA WON'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME SO NOW IT'S UP TO ME TO REPAIR THE FRAME, IF IT'S EVEN REPAIRABLE. HOW COULD TOYOTA PUT OUT A PRODUCT AND NOT STAND BY IT, OR AT LEAST COVER THE FRAME REPLACEMENT? TOYOTA REALLY NEEDS TO COVER ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM REGARDLESS OF AGE OF VEHICLE AND THIS SHOULD NEVER EXPIRE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY DID NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES TO VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE 1803261619 BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.

WHILE DRIVING I HEARD AN UNUSUAL NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. UPON SELF INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK STRAP HAD BROKE. I NOTICED ALSO THAT THE FUEL TANK SHIELD LOOKED LIKE SWISS CHEESE FROM CORROSION. I HAD A TIE DOWN STRAP THAT I WAS ABLE TO USE TO STRAP THE SHIELD AND TANK UP WITH. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING TO REPAIR IT. I FEEL SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE TOYOTA SHOULD FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. A FUEL TANK STRAP SHOULD NEVER FAIL LIKE THIS.
WHILE IN REVERSE, IDLING SLOWLY TO A STOP TO PICK UP A HOT WATER HEATER, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PLUMBING SUPPLY WAREHOUSE, SENDING THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN OVERHEAD DOOR AND THROUGH EXPENSIVE HOT WATER HEATERS AND SPAS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED INTO THE WAREHOUSE UNTIL IT HIT AN IMMOVABLE OBJECT AND STOPPED. THE THROTTLE CONTINUED TO HIGHLY REV THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE TO GET OUT OF THE WAREHOUSE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED AT HIGH SPEED ON THE WAY OUT, AND ONTO THE STREET. BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE THROTTLE RESUMED NORMAL SPEED OPERATION. NEXT DAY, TOYOTA DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE THROTTLE PROBLEM BECAUSE, BEING A 2004, IT DID NOT THROW COMPUTER FAILURE CODES. INDEPENDENT GARAGE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. EARLIER IN THE SAME WEEK, THE THROTTLE STUCK OPEN WHEN BACKING UP AT LOW SPEED, BUT I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT OR THE SERIOUSNESS OF A FAILING THROTTLE. THE TRUCK IS NOW OPERATING AFTER REPAIRS.
MY TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME BROKE DUE TO RUST. THE LEAF SPRING MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE LOOSE FROM THE FRAME AND HE FRAME ITSELF BROKE DUE TO SEVERE RUST. THE TRUCK IS NOW INOPERABLE. THERE AS A RECALL ON SOME TOYOTA FRAMES, BUT APPARENTLY THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO "COLD" STATES, NOT HAWAII. MANY OF MY FRIENDS HAVE TACOMAS AND THEY ALL HAVE RUST ISSUES. I ALSO HAVE A 2010 TACOMA WITH LESS THAN 6000 MILES AND I HAVE ALREADY NOTICED THAT THE FRAME IS RUSTING BY THE LEAF SPRING MOUNTS.
Immediately after the manufacturer recall requiring full frame replacement (completed November 2017 by the same dealership referenced below), the vehicle developed abnormal handling not present before the repair, including improper tracking and rear end instability. No warning lights/diagnostic messages were present. These issues were reported to the servicing dealership within weeks and repeatedly over the following years. Despite multiple short initial inspections and two extended service periods—totaling approximately fourteen months in the dealership’s possession—the dealership repeatedly reported no defect found and continued to advise that the vehicle was safe to operate. Due to ongoing safety concerns, an independent inspection was recently obtained. It confirmed measurable rear axle offset and a thrust angle deviation outside acceptable tolerances. The defect is visually apparent: the rear wheels are not symmetrically aligned, and the vehicle exhibits a noticeable “crab walking” effect when viewed from behind. The root cause remains undetermined and would require further diagnostic work and significant disassembly. All documentation and inspection findings are available upon request. Safety risk: The vehicle does not track correctly and shows instability, especially in low traction conditions such as rain or snow, increasing the risk of loss of control. The manufacturer has been formally notified through repeated outreach, including ongoing contact with the Brand Engagement Center since December 2025 and multiple certified letters to Toyota North America Legal/Consumer Affairs between January and March 2026. The only response received was a generic statement from the Brand Engagement Center indicating that the vehicle is out of warranty and an offer to return it to the same dealership that performed the frame replacement and failed to identify the defect. No other response, investigation, or resolution has been provided by Toyota North America.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF, WHILE STATIONARY. I GRABBED HANDLE TO OPEN DOOR LIKE NORMAL, AND PART OF IT CRUMBLED IM MY HAND AND THEN FELL TO THE GROUND. IT COULD NOT BE PUT BACK ON DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THIS IS A HUGE SAFTY RISK OF SOMEONE GETTING TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE IF SOMETHING HAPPENED AND THE HANDLE FELL OFF AT THE MOST IMPORTUNED TIME, IT COULD EASILY CAUSE FATALITIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER ONE YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. 9/8/2017, WHILE WORKING ON MY 2004 TACOMA I FOUND A 3 INCH AND A 1 INCH RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. NEAR THE RIGHT WHEEL I FOUND A 1 INCH HOLE. ALL IT TOOK WAS A TAP WITH A HAMMER. HOW SAFE IS THAT?
I TOOK MY 2004 TACOMA WITH <92,500 MILES INTO THE MECHANIC TO GET SERVICED YESTERDAY. I ASKED HIM TO CHECK IT OVER FOR A ROAD TRIP WE WERE PLANNING THIS WEEKEND. HE CALLED BACK AND SAID IT WAS UNFIT TO DRIVE BECAUSE THERE WAS ABOUT 1 AND 1/2 FEET AND 4 INCHES WIDE PART OF THE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT ABOVE THE REAR AXLE. I AM TRYING TO CONSULT MY CASE MANAGER AT TOYOTA, BUT HE CONVENIENTLY CALLED THE WRONG NUMBER THIS MORNING AND HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALL YET.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 263,000.

'04 TOYOTA TACOMA. FRAME RECALL DID NOT APPLY, BUT WAS INSPECTED FOR ISSUE IN 2010 AND GIVEN A CLEAN BILL. HEAR A RATTLE UNDER MY TRUCK AND HAVE A LOOK. SHOCK MOUNT BROKEN, FRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND NEARLY CRACKED IN HALF. UNDRIVEABLE-SAFELY. IF THE FRAME WAS GOOD, AND WAS INSPECTED 7 YEARS AGO, THE FRAME WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT GOOD. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE INSPECTION (IN THIS CASE) WAS INSUFFICIENT TO DETERMINE AN ADEQUATE SERVICE LIFE ON THE FRAME. THE INSPECTIONS SHOULD BE PERFORMED AGAIN AND THE PROCEDURE MODIFIED TO REFLECT THE GOAL OF THE INSPECTION, WHICH THIS INSPECTION DID NOT.
JUST GOT MY TRUCK BACK FROM THE MECHANIC TODAY, 6/7/2017, FOR THE ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION AND HE INDICATED THE FRAME IS NOT LOOKING GOOD AND SAFETY WILL BE A CONCERN SOON. THE TRUCK WAS UNDERCOATED ON THE RECALL, APPLIED DIRECTLY OVER THE EXISTING RUSTED FRAME BACK THEN. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO DID THE UNDERCOATING AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME TOYOTA HAS NO FURTHER OBLIGATIONS SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERCOATED. THIS WAS NOT AN AMPLE RESOLUTION TO AN ONGOING DEFECT.I WAS ALSO TOLD AT THE TIME, I HAD NO CHOICE OR SAY IN THE MATTER. I'M HAVING CONCERNS NOW FOR MY SAFETY AND TOYOTA SHOULD RESOLVE THIS RESPONSIBLY. I'M THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED WITH ABOUT 101,000 CURRENT MILES ON THE ODOMETER.
