TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE CHASSIS WAS BENT AND WAS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHASSIS WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AT TOYOTA OF BRISTOL DEALER, (3045 W STATE ST, BRISTOL. TN 37620, (423) 212-4266), HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 264,488.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE FRONT END FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000.
THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. IT HAS TWO RUST HOLES THAT ARE CONNECTED WITH A CRACK THAT THE RUST IS STARTING TO WIDEN. THE HOLES ARE APPROXIMATELY 1-2 INCHES IN SIZE. I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2013 AT MY HOME OF RECORD (MINNESOTA) IN-BETWEEN DUTY STATIONS. I'M ACTIVE MILITARY AND I'M STATIONED IN NORTH CAROLINA. I DEPLOYED IN 2017 AND DIDN'T GET BACK UNTIL LATE 2018. IN EARLY 2019 STEVENSON HENDRICK TOYOTA CONTACTED ME TO HAVE RECALLS PERFORMED ON MY TRUCK. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY DID THE SEAT BELT, THROTTLE PEDAL, AND LOAD RATING STICKER. HOWEVER, I WAS NEVER INFORMED THAT MY FRAMED WAS RUSTED THROUGH. I FOUND OUT AFTER I HAD TO TROUBLESHOOT MY O2 SENSORS. AT WHICH POINT I CONTACTED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS IN REGARDS TO UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA CASE NO. 2:15-CV-02171-FMO-FFM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPLACE MY FRAME OR AT LEAST REPAIR IT; AS I UNDERSTOOD THE TIMEFRAME HAD PAST THAT TOYOTA WOULD REPLACE THE FRAME. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION ABOUT THIS AND THAT I WAS DEPLOYED AS WELL DURING THIS TIME. TOYOTA STILL REFUSE TO FIX THE FRAME. WHEN I TAKE THE TRUCK IN TO GET SERVICED SOMETIMES THEY TURN ME AWAY; AS THEY DON'T WANT TO HELD LIABLE BECAUSE OF THE FRAME. FOR THE PRICE TO REPLACE THE FRAME I CAN PURCHASE A USED VEHICLE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DISPOSE OF MY VEHICLE WHEN IT RUNS FINE AND IS PAID FOR. SINCE THEN I HAVE TRIED TO FIND SOMEONE WITH THE EXPERTISE TO REPAIR MY FRAME, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO DO THE REPAIRS AND POSSIBLY BE HELD LIABLE AFTERWARDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ROYAL SOUTH TOYOTA (3115 S WALNUT ST, BLOOMINGTON, IN 47401, (866) 609-4926) WAS CONTACTED AND UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,357.
VEHICLE HAS PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN, SPECIFICALLY IN THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. IT MAKES NOISE WHILE DRIVING.
STARTED TRUCK AND WHEN PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY STEERING BECOME EXTREMELY STIFF. NO UNUSUAL SOUNDS. STIFFNESS IS NOT ALWAYS THERE, IT PULSATES. FLUID LEVEL AND COLOR ALL WITHIN SPECS. BELT WITHIN SPECS. I PLAN ON PUTTING IT ON A LIFT WHEN I RETURN HOME AND PREFORM AN INSPECTION. SUSPECT U JOINT FAILURE.
OUR 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA'S GAS TANK HAD FALLEN OFF THE FRAME DUE TO CORRODED STRAPS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT SLOW SPEED ON OUR PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 140,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS NO SERIOUS INJURY. HOWEVER, HAD THE TANK SEPARATED WHILE BEING DRIVEN IT IS VERY POSSIBLE AND PROBABLE THAT THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN IGNITION, FIRE, EXPLOSION AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE DEALERSHIP HAD GIVEN US AN AN INITIAL ESTIMATE OF $1,800 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS STATING THAT THE CORROSION IS 'PART OF WINTER DRIVING' THIS IS FAR FROM A PLAUSIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE EXPLANATION. GAS TANKS SHOULD NOT FALL OFF VEHICLES AND POSE SUCH A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY THREAT. TOYOTA CORPORATE REFUSED TO PAY FOR MORE THAN ROUGHLY $400 IN REPAIRS TO THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE FINAL BILL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES WERE $2,300 IN COSTS FOR REPAIR.
MY STEERING HAD STARTED TO GET STIFF DURING A TRIP TO PHILADELPHIA. SINCE THEN IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. AFTER ABOUT SIX MONTHS OF THIS IT BECAME NORMAL AGAIN. NOW IT IS GOING BACK TO BEING STIFF AND HARD TO TRANSITION FROM A TURN TO STRAIGHT MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FAILURE. CAUSED STIFF STEERING
WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED FOR RUST AND CORROSION THAT WE SEEN, PALMERS AIRPORT TOYOTA SAID THEY SEEN NONE, THE A-FRAME HAS RUSTED AND CORRODED TO THE POINT OF SNAPPING AND THE METAL IS CORRODED AND PEELING WITH A CRACK GOING AROUND THE WHOLE A-FRAME. THE TRUCK IS NOW NOT MOVEABLE, THE WHOLE TIRE WILL FALL OFF IF WE DO MOVE IT, WE MADE IT BACK TO OUR HOME WITH IT LUCKILY AND TOYOTA CORPORATE SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
FRAME CRACKED AT THE MOTOR MOUNT WELDS, SPECIFICALLY THE DRIVERS (RIGHT) SIDE MOTOR MOUNT. CAUSES THE MOTOR TO DROP DOWN LEADING TO A SERIOUS, AND DANGEROUS CONDITION OF HAVING THE MOTOR FALL OUT. THIS PROBLEM IS MOST NOTICEABLE DURING DRIVING CONDITIONS.
AIRBAG EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING, NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED.
AIRBAG ON PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT WORKING. LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY SAYS AIR BAG "OFF". THE UPHOLSTERY COVERING AIR BAG SHOWS OIL STAINING ON INSIDE. THIS HAS BEEN PRESENT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS..
WHEN I STEER THE VEHICLE IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE POWER STEERING GIVES OUT. THIS ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR ALL OF THE TIME.
STEERING GETS DIFFICULT AT THE STAR OF TURNS THEN LOOSENS UP AS YOU TURN, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHILE TURNING. AS IF POWER STEERING IS TURNING ON AND OFF?
I HAVE HAD THE REAR END ON MY VEHICLE REPLACED 2X. NO HARD DRIVING. NO SIGNS OF ABUSE OR REGULAR WEAR BUT HAS COST ME OVER 2200 EACH TIME. THE HEAD GASKET HAVE NOW FAILED AND IN READING MANY ONLINE SITES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AND NEVER OVER HEATED. THIS JOB IS NOW GOING TO COST ME 2500. IT STARTED A GURGLING NOISE IN THE DASH AND GOT WARM ONE DAY. THE ENGINE THEN THREW A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 4 A PRESSURE CHECK CONFIRMED THE HEAD GASKET. THE REAR END IS A CONCERN ALONG WITH THE HEAD GASKETS.
WHEN TURNING, NOTICED STEERING VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. VERY UNNERVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AS THE UNIVERSAL JOINT GETS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT DUE TO NO PROTECTION FROM ROAD AND ELEMENTS, AND IN TIME, THE STEERING CORRODES. PLEASE FIX THIS!! VERY VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD A CHILD IN THE CAR WHEN I WAS STRUGGLING WITH THIS ISSUE. I WAS HORRIFIED TO THINK OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN . I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND MAKING SEVERAL TURNS, STEERING WAS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEAD GASKET APPARENTLY BLOWN AFTER OWNING FOR THREE MONTHS. NO WARNING JUST BLEW. 30 MILES AWAY FROM HIGHWAY AND NO CELL SERVICE.
TAKATA RECALL... BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED TWO YEARS AGO . IT HAS 64000 MILES ON IT AND THE AIR BAG LITE HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER THREE MONTHS NOW, IT USED TO ONLY GO ON ONCE IN A WHILE AND NEVER AT THE DEALER. THEY SAY THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY TRUCK AT THIS TIME
THE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA BUMPER IS MOUNTED TO THE HITCH. THE HITCH IS WELDED TO BRACKETS THAT CONNECT TO THE FRAME. THE FRAME HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH PREVIOUS CAMPAIGNS, HOWEVER THERE IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE HITCHES. ANY TACOMA WITH THE BUMPER MOUNTED TO THE HITCH WOULD BE AT RISK OF CREATING A HAZARD FOR OTHER DRIVERS. IF I HAD BEEN TOWING SOMETHING WITH THE HITCH, IT MAY HAVE CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO OVERTURN AND KILL ME OR WHAT I WAS TOWING COULD'VE SEPARATED FROM MY VEHICLE AND CAUSED ANOTHER ACCIDENT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND LOGGED THIS COMPLAINT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER BOTH STATE THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO TO HELP ME OUT. THIS IS A $1700 HITCH/BUMPER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT BILL. I'LL FIX IT OF COURSE ON MY OWN AS A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER THAT'S CONCERNED WITH MY AND OTHER DRIVER'S SAFETY. UNFORTUNATELY TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO BE CONCERNED WITH PEOPLE'S SAFETY ON THE ROADS. THAT'S UNFORTUNATE.
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME IS CORRODED AND TOYOTA REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FRAME.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED BOHN BROTHERS TOYOTA (3800 LAPALCO BLVD, HARVEY, LA 70058; 504-341-3300) AND WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM ONCE PARTS ARRIVED. TIRES CRACKING AROUND BEAD AREA MANUFACTURED IN 4816 LESS THAN 5000 MILES
WHEN CHECKING UNDER MY TRUCK FOR A NOISE, MY SON-IN-LAW DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK WAS RUSTED WITH LARGE HOLES AND PERFORATIONS ON BOTH SIDES IN MULTIPLE PLACES AND ACTUALLY WAS CRUMBLING OFF IN HIS HAND. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE HAD BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ABOUT THE TACOMA FRAMES, BUT IT WAS SETTLED IN MARCH 2016. I CALLED TOYOTA USA AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD SENT ME A NOTICE ABOUT THE LAWSUIT. HOWEVER, I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT THIS NOR DID I KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TOYOTA DOING ANY REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON MY TRUCK. I HAD A 2001 TOYOTA TACOMA THAT DID HAVE A RECALL ON THE FRAME RUST, BUT MINE DID NOT HAVE ANY PERFORATIONS AND I HAVE SINCE SOLD THAT TRUCK. I BOUGHT THIS 2005 TRUCK IN 2014 AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT THE FRAME. I HAVE RECEIVED OTHER RECALL NOTICES WHICH I HAVE HAD REPAIRED AT A DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM. TOYOTA SAYS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LIKE ME AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THEIR TRUCKS BUCKLE IN HALF. I AM SUBMITTING PICTURES OF JUST A FEW OF THE SPOTS OF DETERIORATION OF MY FRAME. I DON'T KNOW WHEN THIS STARTED, BUT WE DISCOVERED IT ON JUNE 11, 2017. NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY TRUCK.
WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS (55 MPH) AND YOU TRY TO MOVE TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT THE STEERING APPEARS TO BE STUCK, BUT WITH SOME ADDITIONAL EFFORT I AM ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL.
BLOWER MOTOR ONLY WORKS ON HIGH. SOMETIMES SPEED OD. DOESN'T WORK, SOMETIMES IT DOES. SPEED OD. READS ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR FAST. GAUGES PAUSE FOR ABOUT 10 SEC. BEFORE WORKING WHEN I FIRST START TRUCK. ALL STARTED AROUND 120,000 MILES.
TOYOTA FRAME RECALL - I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH HOLES AND CRACKS VISIBLE IN THE FRAME. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE DAMAGE INTERNALLY TO THE FRAME. HUGE CHUNKS OF FRAME RUST COME FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME WHEN PRESSURE WASHED. THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AND RESIDED IN THE NORTHEAST FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLE'S LIFE. THE TRUCK WAS OBVIOUSLY EXPOSED TO ROAD SALTS AND AS A RESULT THE FRAME HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. THE TOYOTA DEALER MUST BE AWARE OF THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THIRD PARTY SERVICE CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE NORTHEAST. IN 2014 TOYOTA TRIED TO COVERED UP THE PROBLEM WITH A "RUST INHIBITOR" WHICH ONLY HIDE THE TRUE DAMAGE ON THE FRAME. I RECENTLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO AUTONATION TOYOTA AT 2555 COLONIAL BLVD, FORT MYERS, FL 33907 PHONE:(239) 321-5413 FOR A DIFFERENT RECALL, THE REAR SPRINGS. I REQUESTED THE FRAME BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECENT TOYOTA FRAME RECALL SETTLEMENT AND WAS SIMPLY IGNORED. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING MY TRUCK AS A NECESSITY KNOWING THERE MAY BE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT ANY TIME. TOYOTA HAS AGREED IN COURT TO EITHER REPLACE OR BUY OUT THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. MY TRUCK IS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD BUT I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES OF THE AFFECTED AREAS OF THE FRAME AS EVIDENCE OF THE DAMAGE. PLEASE HELP!

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING FRACTURED FROM THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ORDERED THE PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) BY THE MANUFACTURER ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2014. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY RECENTLY NOTIFIED OF THE MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,431.

I WAS NOT NOTIFIED THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS COULD BE DEFECTIVE. REQUEST THAT I RECEIVE A RECALL NOTIFICATION. ADDRESS: PO BOX 247, POLAND, NY 13431
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS SOFT. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TURN SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE. AS A RESULT, THE CLUTCH PEDAL CAUSED THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ROD TO BEND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS SIGNALED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING SMOKE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO A SHOULDER LANE AND CONFIRMED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING SMOKE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A POLICE/FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FRAME IS RUSTING AND HAS PERFORATIONS WHICH COULD LEAD TO FRAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN KEPT IN IMMACULATE CONDITION OVER ITS LIFE. THE LEVEL OF CORROSION ON THIS VEHICLE DID NOT HAPPEN IN TWO YEARS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT THESE VEHICLES ARE CORRODING FASTER (BECAUSE THEY FOUGHT THE SAME ISSUE IN COURT AND WON). THEY NEED TO POINT THAT THEY ARE NOT LEGAL TO DRIVE DESPITE THE INSPECTIONS APPROVED.
LEAF SPRINGS BROKE AND SEVERED MY BRAKE LINES.WHEN I CONTACTED A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THIS IS SAFTEY RECALL E02. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF RECALL, I LOST MY BREAKS SMASHED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR. TOYOTA WONT PAY FOR A TOW FOR ME TO GET FIXED. I CANT DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE RECALL CAUSED MY LEAF SPRING TO BREAK MY BREAK LINES AND SMASH MY GARAGE DOOR. ITS NOT DRIVABLE
I WAS APPROACHING A RED;IGHT IN PHOENIX, A TRUCK WAS IN FRONT OF ME I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AMPED UP. THE GUY I REARENDED SAID HE SAW MER CROW HOPPING AS MY TRUCK WAS DOING THIS. I HAD MY FOOT FIRMLY PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD. I ONLY STOPPED WHEN I REAR ENDED HIM. I WAS ON A CITY STREET IN PHOENIX.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT U-JOINT IS SIEZING LEADING TO DIFFICULT TO OPERATE STEERING.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT RUSTED AND BINDING MY STEERING WAS BECOMING TOUGH TO STEER AND THEN IT WOULD BE FINE. IT FELT LIKE THE POWER ASSIST WAS STOPPING ASSISTING THEN IT WOULD BEHAVE NORMALLY DURING A TURN. THIS CAUSED LOSS OF PROPER STEERING DURING TURNING ARE ANY SPEED. SOMETIMES IT WOULD BE TOUGH TO STEER, (AS IF YOU HAD MANUAL STEERING) AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE TURN, THE STEERING FEEL WOULD GO BACK TO NORMAL (POWER ASSIST WORKING) WHICH CAUSED BACK AND FORTH MOTIONS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE PROPER LANE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE TRUCK AND " FOUND STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT RUSTED AND BINDING". I HAD TO REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, HAVE A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND HAVE THE POWER STEERING FLUID FLUSHED. TOTAL BILL WAS $796.89 THIS ALSO SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO INADEQUATE RUST PREVENTATIVE MEASURES, POSSIBLY SIMILAR TO THE RUSTING FRAME ISSUES. I BELIEVE TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS AND REIMBURSE ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY HAD THIS REPAIRED AT THE DEALER. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OR DEATH DUE TO STEERING FAILURE AT HIGH OR SLOW SPEEDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

STEERING SUDDENLY BECOMES DIFFICULT WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN HARD TO TURN. INVESTIGATION APPEARS TO BE FAILED BEARINGS IN LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A BUILDING. I WAS GOING APPROX. 1-3 MPH DUE TO THE LOT BEING WET & HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WHEN I WAS ALMOST TO THE CONCRETE CURB, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE & SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING FULL THROTTLE, SO I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. BEFORE MOVING, I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, WHICH WAS THE CASE. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY BUT THAT WAS BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE AT WHICH I HIT THE BUILDING. I THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AN BACKED OFF THE BUILDING. *TR
2005 TACOMA PICKUPS AND OTHERS ARE INCLUDED IN A PENDING SETTLEMENT REGARDING EXCESSIVE RUSTING. NOW MY STEERING IS FREEZING UP WHICH I FIND IS A WELL DOCUMENTED COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET. THE REASON SEEMS TO ALSO BE RELATED TO A FAILURE TO ADEQUATELY PROTECT AGAINST RUSTING. SUDDEN STEERING FAILURE HAS BEEN REPORTED. I CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE MY VEHICLE DUE TO THIS FAULT. TOYOTA SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE FORCED TO RECALL ALL THESE DANGEROUS VEHICLES BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT PROPERLY FUNCTIONING. THE WARNING LIGHT IS ON AND INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE SYSTEM WILL LIKELY NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY IF INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. IT CURRENTLY DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE TOYOTA AIRBAG SYSTEM RECALL, BUT INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SYSTEM IN THIS CURRENT MAKE/MODEL. THE PROBLEM WAS DETECTED DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE INSPECTION/SERVICE AT A SHOP.
BOUGHT TRUCK 4 MONTHS AGO FROM A NO HAGGLE DEALER. JUST RECENTLY TRUCK HAS STARTED TO LURCH FORWARD IF I HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY OR A FAST/HARD BRAKE OR WHEN FIRST ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP. .TOYOTA CERTIFIED 4X4. UPON RESEARCH HERE AT THIS SITE THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SO WHY TOYOTA HASN'T DONE ANYTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I TOOK MY TACOMA TO DEALER TO HAVE REAR LEAF SPRINGS INSPECTED PER A RECALL (14V604).. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL OWNER (I'M SECOND OWNER) HAD INSTALLED A 2" LIFT KIT. THEY LEFT ME IN "LIMBO" REGARDING THIS RECALL. I DO NOT KNOW, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, IF MY LEAF SPRINGS NEED REPLACING. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOUSY WAY TO HANDLE A RECALL.
I PURCHASED MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA USED WITH 108,000 MILES ON IT ON 12/8/2016. IT FAILED VIRGINIA INSPECTION ON 12/20/2016 DUE TO RUST IN THE FRAME. THE TRUCK IS NOT SAFE OR LEGAL TO DRIVE. TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE DAMAGE UNDER LSC E0D, WHICH EXPIRED IN MARCH 2016, DESPITE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN A TOYOTA DEALER TWICE DURING THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN.

AFTER WAITING FOR YEARS TO BE CALLED TO GET THE TOYOTA LEAF SPRINGS CHANGED AFTER MANUFACTURER RECALL, THE DEALER REFUSED TO EXCHANGE THEM. I ADDED AN EXTRA LEAF UNDER THE SUBSTANDARD ONES TO MITIGATE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WHILE TOWING, AND WAS TOLD I HAD "MODIFIED THE ORIGINAL SPRINGS".
