OWN 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. AIR BAG LITE CAME ON AT 40K MILES. NO ATTEMPT MADE TO FIX. VEHICLE DRIVES FINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING IN REVERSE, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN UNUSUALLY LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST YET THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE CONTACT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000. UPDATED 03/07/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DUE TO A FLOOR MAT OR STICKING GAS PEDAL, IT WAS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL WITHIN THE ACCELERATION SYSTEM. UPDATED 05/06/11
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA SR5 DBL CAB, 6 CYL, 4.0 ENG. 65K MILES, 2 WHEEL DRIVE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND STAYS ON. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR INFO. ON IT AND HAVE FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I HAD IT RESET BY A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT SHOPS AND THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. GOING BY THE INFO. FOUND ON LINE, FROM GOOGLE TO NEWSGROUPS. THE TOYOTA DEALERS ARE JUST CHARGING FOR THE SAME WORK DONE AND NOT ADMITTING A PRODUCT DEFECT. I AM TAKING MINE TO THE DEALER AND IS $117.00 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT.. AND I KNOW THIS TAKES THEM 10 MIN OR LESS TO HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND GET THE ERROR CODES PRINTED. WE THE CONSUMERS NEED SOME HELP. AND I AND I'M SURE EVERYONE ELSE THAT HAS BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE CAN LOOK INTO IT. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS.. BUT I DON'T THINK MINE IS EQUIPPED WITH THOSE. I HAVE EVEN READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN INSTANCES WHERE THE BAG DEPLOYS FOR NO REASON, WHILE THE TRUCK IS BEEN DRIVEN WITH THAT LIGHT ON.. AT APPROX. 37000 MILES MY DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR ON MY 2006 TACOMA STARTED DROOPING DOWN BLOCKING MY FIELD OF VISION. THE SUN VISOR WOULD NOT STAY IN ANY POSITION AND STARTED MAKING A CRACKING NOISE WHEN MOVED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR WHICH THEY STATED THAT IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE. THE SUN VISOR CONTAINS TWO PLASTIC PIECES THAT HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO FAIL CAUSING THE SUN VISOR TO NOT HOLD IN ANY POSITION (UP OR DOWN). I WAS TOLD BY THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO GLUE A VELCRO STRIP ONTO THE SUN VISOR AND HEADBOARD TO STOP THE VISOR FROM FALLING INTO MY FIELD OF VISION OR PAY $120 FOR A NEW SUN VISOR WITH A SUPPOSED FIX. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE AND SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED PROMPTLY BY TOYOTA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE FAILURE BEGAN AFTER THE CONTACT HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT REFILLED PROPERLY. AFTER THE SERVICE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED TO ACCELERATE PASS THE SPEED THAT IT WAS SET WITH BEING RESET BY THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT, WHICH HAS CAUSED THE RPMS TO IDLE EITHER EXCESSIVELY LOW OR EXCESSIVELY HIGH. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO DOWNSHIFT FROM FIFTH GEAR TO SECOND GEAR WHEN DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 55 MPH AND ABOVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,118 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,557.
I HAD MY TRUCK INSPECTED BY TOYOTA OF BRISTOL FOR FRAME RUST. AT THAT TIME THEY SAID IT WAS SURFACE RUST AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT DO ANY THING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE TRUCK HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE IT AND IT ONLY HAS 63500 MILES ON IT. THE SPRING SHACKLES ON THE REAR OF THE TRUCK HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY LEAVING THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK ALMOST COMPLETELY UNATTACHED TO THE TRUCK FRAME. EVEN THOUGH TOYOTA HAS A CAMPAIGN # SC-EOD TO REPAIR 2005-2008 TOYOTA TACOMA FRAMES THE SAID MINE WAS NOT COVERED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 10V036000 (EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS) FOR THE INCORRECT LABELING. THE MANUFACTURER SENT HER THE CORRECT LABEL BUT THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT EXPLAIN IF THE LOADING CAPACITY WAS RELATED TO THE DOUBLE CAB, VEHICLE IN ITS ENTIRETY OR THE TIRES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 41,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE WIRES HAD COME LOOSE AND RE-PLUGGED THE WIRES ACCORDINGLY. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION WHEN SITTING IDLE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY LUNGE FORWARD. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,780.
THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA, DOUBLE CAB. IN FEB 09 THE TRUCK RAN AWAY ON ME AFTER ACCELERATING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. RPM RAGED AND TRUCK WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, IT SPEED TO OVER 100 MPH, BRAKES LOCKED. SEE PREVIOUS REPORT. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO CALLED TOYOTA IN AND HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS. IN THE END THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER OFFERED TO BUY IT BACK FOR A RIDICULOUS PRICE, WHICH I COULD NOT AFFORD TO ACCEPT SEEING THAT WE PAID OVER $30,000 FOR THE VEHICLE. I HAVE DRIVEN IT WITH KID GLOVES SINCE, NOT TRUSTING THE VEHICLE AT ALL. MY FAMILY WILL NOT RIDE WITH ME AND MY ADULT CHILDREN REFUSE TO ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TO RIDE ALSO. ON JULY 9, 2010 I STARTED THE VEHICLE UP AND THE ENGINE WAS RACING, RPM TO 7, OSCILLATING BACK AND FORTH. I PUT IT INTO GEAR AND STARTED OUT SLOWING, ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE. I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, BUT FELT VERY UNSAFE. I BELIEVED IT WOULD AGAIN ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL. LIGHT DID COME ON INDICATING TO TAKE TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THIS LIGHT DID NOT COME ON FOR OVER 5 MINUTES. I CALLED MY DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED IN WHICH I DID AND START A CASE WITH TOYOTA WHICH I DID. TRUCK REMAINS AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THIS POINT. *TR
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TAILGATE IS DANGEROUSLY WEAK, AND IS UNABLE TO SUPPORT WHAT MOST CONSIDER NORMAL WEIGHT FOR A TRUCK TAILGATE. ALTHOUGH SUBSTANDARD DESIGN MAY BE CONSIDERED "BUYER BEWARE", TRUCK BUYERS EXPECT A TAILGATE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF NORMAL TRUCK USE ACTIVITIES. TOYOTA PROVIDES NO WARNING OR CAUTION ANYWHERE THAT THE TAILGATE IS OF INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO PERFORM NORMAL 1/2-TON TRUCK DUTIES, AND TYPICALLY (PER INTERNET FORUM THREADS) TELLS THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS THEIR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO SAFELY USE THE TAILGATE FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN HIDING THE INSIDE OF THE BED. SINCE TOYOTA HAS PRODUCED A SUBSTANDARD DESIGNED PART, THEY SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED A VISUAL WARNING ON THE PART TO ALERT CUSTOMERS TO THE DANGER THEIR PRODUCT IMPOSES IF USED IN A TRADITIONAL MANNER. SINCE THEY DID NOT DO SO, THEY SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE TO PROVIDE A REDESIGNED PART TO THEIR CUSTOMERS OR FULL RESTITUTION FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE VEHICLES. A GOOGLE OR SIMILAR INTERNET SEARCH ON "TACOMA TAILGATE FORUM" WILL SUBSTANTIATE MY STATEMENTS BEYOND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE TAILGATE BENDING. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, STAYS ON, DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES FAILURE, AIR BAG WON'T DEPLOY. DIAGNOSTICS SHOW "CLOCK SPRING/SPIRAL CABLE" NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND $654 TO FIX. CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX AT THIS TIME. I HAVE NO AIRBAG IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. THIS PART FAILED SIMPLY FROM NORMAL TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. AIRBAG NOT WORKING WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES ON 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. *TR
WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE AREA, WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC, AND HE FOUND A LOOSE FAN SHROUD AND TIGHTENED IT UP. TWO WEEKS LATER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. WE TOWED THE 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB TO THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, AND THEY FINALLY TOLD US THE FRAME WAS BROKEN UNDER THE ENGINE AREA, RIGHT NEXT TO THE POWER STEERING. THEY TOLD US $14,000 TO FIX THE TRUCK. THEY SAID WE NEED A FULL FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 71,000 MILES. IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED...TOYOTA OFFERED TO PAY 1/2 OF THE FRAME COST, WHICH THEY SAID IS $9800, NOT INCLUDING THE 40 HOURS @$40/HR OF LABOR THEY WANT TO CHARGE TO REPLACE IT. THEY WILL NOT TELL ME WHY MY FRAME IS BROKEN. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO AN DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP, FOR ANOTHER ESTIMATE, WHICH THE DEALERSHIP HASN'T EVEN GIVEN ME THEIR WRITTEN ESTIMATE. WHEN I ASKED FOR IT THEY MADE UP AN EXCUSE ON WHY I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE SERVICE REP. TO ACCESS MY ACCOUNT TO PRINT IT OUT FOR ME, THIS IS WHEN I REMOVED MY TRUCK LAST WEEK AFTER, THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE DEAL OR GET MY TRUCK OFF THEIR PROPERTY OR THEY WOULD STARTING CHARGING ME FEES. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR THREE WEEKS NOW, I HAVE HAD NO LOANER, AND NOW HELP FROM TOYOTA OR THE DEALER. MY HUSBAND COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, WHEN HE LOST POWER STEERING, THIS IS A DEFECTIVE FRAME, AND DUE TO IT BREAKING, IT CAUSED THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT. WE HAVE NO TRUCK NOW, AND STILL OWE OVER $10,000 FOR THIS BROKEN, DEFECTIVE ONE. *TR
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SAME COMPLAINT AS OTHERS. LOW END RUMBLING SOUND AND VIBRATION IN FRONT END BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS, WHERE FRONT AXLES ENTER THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE, HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY (SLOP) IN THE BEARINGS. DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR THE BEARINGS EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE VIDEO TAPED THE CONDITION AS WELL AS THE MILEAGE AND WILL KEEP RECORDS OF MY MULTIPLE VISITS TO THE DEALER. I HAVE ALSO FOUND OTHER USED TACOMA TRUCKS ON DEALER LOTS WITH AS LITTLE AS 20,000 MILES THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE TOYOTA ENGINEERED THESE DIFFERENTIALS TO LAST ONLY 60,000 MI AND MOST OWNERS MAY NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM UNTIL WARRANTY IS OVER. MY 1992 TOYOTA PICKUP 4X4 WITH 238,000 MILES HAS LESS BEARING SLOP IN IT THAN THE '06. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING WITH A HEAVY LOAD, THE REAR SUSPENSION WOULD DROP. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION SPRINGS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
I DO NOT SEE THE RECALL FOR THE SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY ON MY TACOMA. I READ THAT THIS VIN IS PART OF A RECALL FOR THE WIRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT CONTROLS MY PASSENGER AIRBAG, CRUISE CONTROL AND SOME OTHER FUNCTIONS. IT HAS MALFUNCTIONED. WHY IS IT NOT LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE? WHEN I CHECKED ON THE STATUS OF THIS RECALL, IT SHOWS THAT MY MODEL, ACCORDING TO THE VIN DOES QUALIFY FOR THIS. MY PASSENGER AIRBAG IS NOT WORKING, AND MY CRUISE CONTROL IS NO LONGER WORKING AT SPEED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DISLODGE THE PEDAL TO NO AVAIL. SHE BEGAN TO APPLY STEADY YET FIRM PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR RELEASED ITSELF AS THE VEHICLE DECREASED IN SPEED. THE DEALER WAS TESTING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FOR VIBRATIONS WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT TWO INVESTIGATORS TO FURTHER ASSESS THE FAILURE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.

HI, I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 TACOMA 4X4 TRD AUTO V6 FOR ALMOST 5 YRS, PROBLEM FREE, AND HAVE BEEN A BIG SKEPTIC OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION THING IN THE NEWS TILL THIS MORNING, I WAS GOING TO THE POST OFFICE AROUND TEN AS USUAL TO MAIL SOME PACKAGES, TURNED INTO PARKING LOT OF POST OFFICE, PULLED INTO A SPACE FACING AWAY FROM POST OFFICE THANKFULLY, AS I PULLED IN, FOOT ON BRAKE ONLY, COMING UP TO CURB ABOUT TO PUT INTO PARK AND TURN OFF KEY, SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE FLOORED ITSELF SPINNING THE REAR WHEELS, JUMPING FRONT OF VEHICLE OVER TALL CURB, TAKING OUT A SHRUB IN THE MEDIAN, VEHICLE WAS HEADED TOWARDS SOME NEW MINI MALL BUILDINGS 25 FT AWAY, ALL THE WHILE AS THIS STARTED I WAS PRESSING ON BRAKES HARD, THE VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I THREW SHIFTER INTO PARK AND TURNED IGNITION OFF, IMMEDIATELY I SAW THAT I WAS OK AND NOTHING DAMAGED, I STARTED THE TRUCK AND PUT IN REVERSE AND BACKED OFF THE MEDIAN INTO THE SPACE AND PARKED, DID MY BUSINESS, CAME BACK OUT, STARTED UP AND DROVE HOME WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS, I HAVE NOT CONTACTED TOYOTA YET ABOUT THE INCIDENT. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TACOMA TRD SPORT WITH 67000 MILES THAT I BOUGHT WITH 39000 MILES ON IT. I FANATICALY TAKE CARE OF THIS VEHICLE, GOING AS FAR AS CRAWLING UNDER IT TO WASH THE FRAME. WHEN DOING THIS I NOTICED THAT WHEREVER THERE IS A WELD OR FLAT SURFACE THAT THE PAINT IS MISSING AND THERE IS RUST. I HAVE READ IN MANY ARTICLES THAT THESE FRAMES AS WELL AS PREVIOUS GENERATION TACOMAS WERE MADE BY DANA AND THAT THERE WERE SEVERE SAFETY ISSUES DUE TO CORROSION IN EARLIER ONES. WHY DIDN'T TOYOTA CORRECT THESE ISSUE ON NEWER MODELS? I HAVE ALSO READ THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE UNTILL THERE IS PERFORATION. WHEN THE FRAME REACHES THE PERFORATION POINT IT WILL BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. MY TRUCK ISN'T YET AT THAT STAGE SO I'M EXPECTING TOYOTA TO DO NOTHING FOR ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT CAME TO A STOP AND WHEN HE TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND THE RPMS INCREASED TO 7000. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE AFTERMARKET FLOOR MAT WAS FOUND TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,714. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,740.

MY 06 TACOMA HAS HAD TWO ACCELERATIONS, THE FIRST TIME I RAN ACROSS A TRAFFIC LANE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE NEXT TIME IT WAS IN A SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT. TOYOTA CHECKED THE TRUCK OUT, SAID ALL WAS FINE. THE NEXT TIME TOYOTA HAD A TECH. ON THE 26TH OF MARCH 2010 ABOUT 3:00 PM, I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA AND GOT ONTO INTERSTATE 80 GOING WEST AND BEGAN TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. AS I ACCELERATED TO GET IN FRONT OF A WHITE SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER, I REALIZED I WAS ACCELERATING FASTER THAN I WAS PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. MY TRUCK ACCELERATED AS IF IT WANTED TO GO FASTER THAN I DID, AND SO I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. BUT, MY TOYOTA TACOMA STILL INCREASED IN SPEED, AND THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED SOFT AS IF THE TRUCK WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL. REALIZING THAT MY SPEED WAS 80 AND RISING RAPIDLY, I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR BARELY SLOWED DOWN AND SPED RIGHT BACK UP CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE AS SOON AS I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. SO, I PRESSED DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH ALL MY FORCE, BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN SUFFICIENTLY TO SAFELY PULL OVER. SO, THEN, I PUT ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND USED THE OTHER TO PUSH DOWN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE TRUCK DECELERATED ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO PULL OVER INTO THE FAR RIGHT LANE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL DESPITE APPLICATION OF BOTH BRAKES, AND SO I THREW THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. THIS SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED AS OF TODAY.

THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL BODY DAMAGE AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR MIRRORS, TURN SIGNALS AND WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. WHEN I WAS COASTING TO PARK MY TRUCK AT MY PARKING SPACE OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE PARKING GARAGE, MY P/U TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED VERY FAST AND THE TRUCK HIT THE FENCE AND STOPPED. I REMEMBER THAT I ASKED ABOUT THE HIGH RPM TO THE SALESMAN. HE MENTIONED SOME NEW DESIGN FEATURE THAT I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND. AFTER THIS INCIDENT WITHIN 30 MINUTES I WENT TO TOYOTA OF PLANO AND REPORTED MY INCIDENT, AND THEN I WENT TO MY CAR/HOME INSURANCE COMPANY (STATE FARM INSURANCE CO.) TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA OF PLANO. I HOPE SOME ONE CHECKS THE ENGINE ELECTRONICS, NOT JUST MECHANICAL PROBLEM OF MY CAR. THIS IS VERY ODD AND DANGEROUS. THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPED. TOYOTA CHECKED IT ON 4/05/2010 AND SAID ALL THEIR NEWER TRUCKS LOOSE VACUUM AND THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY SAID THIS ISN'T NORMAL (4/07/2010). TOYOTA INSPECTED BRAKES AGAIN ON 4/12/2010 AND SAID IT'S NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR AT A STOP. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA W/ 40K MILES. TOYOTA SHOWED ME A 2007 TACOMA THAT DID THE SAME THING. MY PEDAL NEVER WENT TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE MASTER CYLINDER WENT. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT THE CURB ON THE ADJACENT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND BECAME AIRBORN. THEY WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND ROLLED. THERE WAS ANOTHER VEHICLE OF YOUNG ADULTS TRAVELING WITH THEM, AND IN THE LANE NEXT TO THEM ON THEIR LEFT. THEY SAW THE WHOLE THING AND SAID THEY COULD HEAR THE ENGINE RACING. WHEN THE GOT TO THE VEHICLE, THEY WERE ABLE TO GET EVERYONE OUT AND MY SON JUST KEPT SAYING "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED". THEY WERE ALL TREATED AND RELEASED WITH MINOR INJURIES. THIS VEHICLE WAS IN THE TOYOTA RECALL FOR FLOOR MATS. I DID NOT HAVE TOYOTA MATS IN THE TRUCK, I HAD VERY HEAVY RUBBER MATS. TRANSMISSION FAILS TO GO INTO GEAR. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE AISIN AY6 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THE TACOMA FROM WHAT I SEE ON INTERNET FORUMS. A DANGER RESULTS IN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, MERGING OR MANY OTHER UNFORESEEN INCIDENTS WHERE IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE TRANSMISSION INTO THE NEXT GEAR. IN MY CASE, IT IS PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT FOR THE 1-2, 2-3 SHIFTS AND REVERSE. I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO TOYOTA NUMEROUS TIMES AND IN SHORT WAS MORE OR LESS TOLD TO "TAKE A HIKE" AND SOMETIMES IN A MANNER THAN WAS NOT THE MOST PLEASANT MEANS. THROWOUT BEARING ALSO SQUEAKS SINCE BRAND NEW (TSB POSTED?), AND TOYOTA'S ONLY ACTION IS TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER BEARING THAT WILL ONLY SQUEAK AGAIN ANYWAY. I DO NOT GET WHY I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY TAKE A TRUCK THAT IS BARELY DRIVEN IN FOR A COMPLAINT. ON JANUARY 15, 2010 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO GATEWAY TOYOTA IN TOM'S RIVER NJ, THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY THEN NEW TRUCK IN 2006 AND HAD THEIR SERVICE MANAGER INSPECT MY TRUCK. I WAS PRESENT DURING THIS INSPECTION AND I POINTED OUT THE LARGE ARREARS OF RUST AND FLAKING METAL ON MY FRAME, CROSSMEMBERS AND TRAILER HITCH TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO TOLD ME THAT UNLESS MY FRAME HAD ACTUAL HOLES IN IT CAUSED BY RUST NOTHING COULD OR WOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THE OBVIOUS CORROSION OF THESE VITAL COMPONENTS. THIS RUST PROBLEM IS AN ISSUE THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN AVOIDING DEALING WITH FOR MANY YEARS AND I FEEL THAT IGNORING THIS ISSUE IS AFFECTING THE SAFETY AND VALUE OF MY TRUCK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HE SMELLED FUEL INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AFTER STARTING IT. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT COMPONENT WAS REPAIRED. HE ALSO STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT SENSOR FAILED AND THE SEAT BELT OFF WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE SENSOR HAD FAILED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE SEAT BELT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 65,000.

HELLO I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR LOUD CLACKING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE BRAKES EVERY TIME I USE THE BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THIS SOUND IS NORMAL BUT I KNOW BETTER AS I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THIS BEFORE AND I ALSO AM SOME WHAT OF A MECHANIC. THE CLACKING SOUND IS COMING FROM THE BRAKE CALIPER HITTING THE MOUNTING BOLTS AND AS ANY ONE WITH A BRAIN KNOWS THAT METAL HITTING METAL OVER AND OVER WILL EITHER BREAK THE BOLTS OR EVENTUALLY WEAR THROUGH THE BOLTS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AS A TOYOTA CERTIFIED VEHICLE WITH 48,000 MILES ON IT. THE BRAKE PADS ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING WORN OUT AND THIS ISSUE IS NOT WITH WEAR OF BRAKE PADS BUT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE MOUNTING OF THE BREAK CALIPERS THEM SELF. TOYOTA MAY NOT HAVE A PROBLEM AT THIS MOMENT WITH THIS BUT YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER AND SOME ONE NEEDS TO GET THEM ON IT NOW BEFORE THIS STARTS CAUSING WRECKS. *TR
