MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME REALLY STIFF, BECAUSE THE #2 SHAFT STEERING WAS POORLY DESING, IT'S RUSTED AND GETS DIRTY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE A BOOT OR NOTHING COVERING IT. TRUCK IS STIFF WHEN TURNING, AND ALMOST GETS STOCK WHEN TURNING BACK TO STRAIGHT.

PRIOR TO THE NOISE, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL PERTAINING TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE RECALL REPAIR CAUSED THE SUSPENSION NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORE THAN TWO DEALERS, INCLUDING TANSKY SAWMILL TOYOTA (6300 SAWMILL RD, DUBLIN, OH 43017, (614) 766-4800) AND BUCKEYE TOYOTA (1903 RIVERWAY DR, LANCASTER, OH 43130, (740) 654-3943) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
LOWER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT BEARINGS RUST RESULTING IN THE STEERING WHEEL BEING DIFFICULT THE TURN. SOME OF HAVE REPORTED THE STEERING LOCKING. THE PART NUMBER IS: 45203-04020.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO, CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY FAIL TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V092000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 162,500.
REAR OR TRUCK IS SAGGING AN LEAF SPRING ON DRIVER SIDE IS RUBBING GAS TANK
THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AND THE GAS TANK FELL FROM THE BODY OF THE TRUCK WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED ENTERING A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE NORTH EAST CORROSION RECALL AND SERVICED IN NOV 2015. HOWEVER, THE STRAPS WERE NOT REPLACED AND FAILED ABOUT 21 MONTHS LATER. CASE FILED WITH TOYOTA, 1708182077 WITH NO RESOLUTION NOR CONCERN WITH THE CONDITION. IRA TOYOTA OF MANCHESTER INVOICE# 736796 REPLACED THE FUEL SUB-ASSY BANDS P/N 77601-04050 AND 77602-04010. A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS SPILLED DUE TO THE LOW SPEED OF TRAVEL AT THE TIME AND SHORT DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE (ABOUT 5MPH AND 30 FEET). CONCERN IS FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE THAT MIGHT HAVE STRAPS FAIL WHILE AT HIGHER SPEED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1704112480. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED FROM TOYOTA VIA MAIL OF A RECALL ON MY TRUCK AROUND NOV 2016. I'VE SPENT FROM THEM UNTIL NOW TRYING TO GET CAIN TOYOTA OF NORTH CANTON OHIO TO DO THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PARTS. I ALSO EXPLAINED TO THEM THERE IS AN "ADD A LEAF" ON MY TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS LIFTED 3". I SAID I'M NOT PAYING FOR ANYTHING HERE THIS IS A FULL RECALL UNDER TOYOTA. WE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR JULY 7TH AT 7:30AM. I GET THERE AND THEY REFUSE TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT ME PAYING DUE TO THE "ADD A LEAF". THEY HAVE WASTED 9 MONTHS WITH THIS AS MYSELF, MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN RIDE IN THIS TRUCK EVERYDAY! I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW CAIN TOYOTA HAS HANDLED THIS ISSUE. WE ARE NOW AT RISK DUE TO CAINS REFUSAL TO REPAIR THIS AT TOYOTA'S RECALL EXPENSES. I WILL ALSO BE CALLING TOYOTA CORPORATE TO PLACE A FORMAL COMPLAINT AS WELL.
The universal joint on the intermediate steering shaft corrodes and seizes causing a potential problem steering. It is a serious safety issue in my opinion. It is an on-going issue.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (VALLEY HI TOYOTA 14612 VALLEY CENTER DRIVE VICTORVILLE CA 92395 780-241-6484), BUT THEY DECLINED TO ASSIST AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATIONAL CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK ROADHANDLER SPORT TIRES, SIZE: P245/75/R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE TIRES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND AN EYEWITNESS WAS ABLE TO INSTALL THE SPARE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEARS AUTO (LOCATED AT 693 STILLWATER AVE BANGOR, MAINE 0441) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ENTIRE SIDEWALL FAILED DUE TO A DEFECT OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRE WAS EXCLUSIVELY MANUFACTURED FOR SEARS. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FRAME WAS CORRODED THROUGH WITH HOLES APPROXIMATELY THREE TO FOUR INCHES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL WAS CLOSED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SERVICED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
NEVER RECEIVED RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS? SAFETY HARNESS IN THE BACK SEATS WHERE MY RAND KIDS RIDE WILL NOT TIGHTEN UP. LEAF-SPRINGS BOW UP IN THE MIDDLE NOT DOWN? HAVE REPLACED U-JOINTS MORE TIMES THEN ON MY 97 FORD. PLUS CARRIER BEARINGS BECAUSE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS AND STOPPED DRIVING IT BECAUSE IT GOES BACK AND FORTH ON THE ROAD. MY REAR END HOWLS AND NEEDS REPLACED BECAUSE THE REAR END IS HIGHER THEN THE TRANNY BUT THERE HAS BEEN 7 RECALLS ON THIS MODEL AND ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THEM ON LINE. YOU MUST BE DOING A BETTER JOB OR YOUR FIRED!!! LOL BUT IF YOU CARE I THANK YOU BUT AT LEAST MAKE THEM FIX THESE SAFETY ISSUES, OR AT LEAST MAKE US AWARE OF THEM INSTEAD OF HIDING THEM. DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH RIPPING AMERICANS OFF . TO DO SO IS NO BETTER THEN THEM.
THE UNIVERSAL JOINT IN THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS RUSTED, CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THIS JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS BY A BOOT, OR SOME OTHER MEANS, TO MAINTAIN LUBRICATION AND PREVENT THIS JOINT FROM RUSTING. ONLINE RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS A COMMON, AND VERY DANGEROUS, PROBLEM. DUE TO THE COST OF THIS REPAIR ($400- 500), MANY PEOPLE MAY TRY TO SIMPLY LUBRICATE A DAMAGED JOINT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN STEERING FAILURE.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR COULD ONLY BE PERFORMED IF THE AFTERMARKET AIR BAG WAS REMOVED. THE CONTACT WOULD BE CHARGED FOR REMOVAL OF THAT COMPONENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LETTER DID NOT EXPRESS THAT VERBIAGE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT BE REINSTALLED UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE RECALL AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO INDEPENDENTLY HAVE THEM REINSTALLED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. ACCELERATED BY ITSELF. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2006 4X4 TOYOTA TACOMA ON A 55MPH ROAD WITH OR 3 YEAR OLD AND 1 YEAR OLD CHILDREN ON MARCH 2017 AT AROUND 12:00 NOON, WHEN SHE STARTED TO DECELERATE TO TURN ONTO SIDE ROAD SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT THEY DIDN'T WORK, SHE PRESSED HARDER AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE; THEN THE TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE SHE STILL ONLY APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FINALLY WORKED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE TURN, YET MUCH TOO FAST. OVERT THE NEXT TWO MILES TO OUR HOUSE ON A 35MPH ROAD, SHE STOPPED THE TRUCK FINE (ONCE AT A STOP SIGN, AND ONCE AT OUR MAILBOX). HOWEVER, AS SHE PULLED INTO OUR GARAGE SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND AGAIN THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, AND THE TRUCK AGAIN ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT A TOOL CABINET WHICH HIT THE GARAGE WALL. THANKFULLY SHE AND THE KIDS WERE OK. THE TRUCK HAS A PUSH-BAR ON THE FRONT AND THAT WAS PUSHED INTO THE FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL, THE TACOMA'S FRONT BUMPER IS CONCAVED IN THE MIDDLE AND THE ENDS ARE BROKEN FROM WHERE THE JOIN THE FRONT FENDERS, THE LOWER GRILL AREA ALSO BROKE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THREE DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND ASK IF THERE WAS A RECALL. TWO CLAIMED TO NEVER HAVE HEARD OF THIS, AND ONE OF THOSE TOLD ME TO MAKE SURE A FLOOR MAT WASN'T IN THE WAY (WHICH IT WASN'T). ONE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT THIS WAS SIMILAR SYMPTOMS TO A NATIONAL RECALL THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR OTHER TOYOTA MODELS, BUT NOT OUR TACOMA WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE. I TOOK TO THE INTERNET AND INSTANTLY FOUND THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BY TACOMA OWNERS, AND EVEN VERBIAGE THAT NHSTA HAS HAD THOUSANDS, MAYBE TENS OF THOUSANDS, OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS GENERATION TACOMA. I TESTED THE TRUCK LATER IN THE DAY AND IT WORKED AS IT SHOULD, HOWEVER IT'S CLEAR THAT TOYOTA, AND THIS TACOMA, HAVE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ISSUES
EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. PIN HOLES IN FRAME. RUST FLAKING OFF CROSS MEMBERS, WELDS, FRONT END FRAME SIDE BOX SECTIONS. EXCESSIVE RUST ORIGINAL DISCOVERY OCCURRED DURING LEAF SPRING REPLACEMENT RECALL SERVICE IN PENNSYLVANIA IN 2016 OR EARLY 2017. EXACT DATE CAN BE DETERMINED FROM DEALER SERVICE RECORDS BY VIN. PIN HOLE(S) DISCOVERED WHEN REPLACING EXHAUST SYSTEM. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO BE INSPECTED. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A BUMP AND THE VEHICLE JARRED EXCESSIVELY. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A BUMP AT 40 MPH, THE REAR TIRES THE VEHICLE JARRED, INDEPENDENTLY PULLED LEFT, AND THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST AS THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
WENT TO GET MY CAR INSPECTED AND IT FAILED FOR A RUSTED FRAME. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT IT'S UNDER RECALL.
I WENT TO MY MECHANIC FOR A SMALL REPAIR RECENTLY AND HE INFORMED ME (AND SHOWED ME) EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME AND A MAJOR SPLIT IN THE FRAME FROM THE EXTENSIVE RUST. HE HAS TOLD ME THAT PERFORATIONS ARE IMMINENT IN THE FRAME AND THAT THE FRAME WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. HE ALSO FOUND RUST DAMAGE TO MY BRAKES, ROTORS, PAINT (CHIPPING WITH RUST), WHEEL CAPS, AND TAILGATE. HE INFORMED ME THAT I CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE THIS TRUCK ON DIRT ROADS OR HAUL ANYTHING. 75% OF THE ROADS WHERE I RESIDE ARE DIRT ROADS. COST OF FRAME REPLACEMENT WOULD EXCEED WHAT I PAID FOR THE TRUCK; I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR 6 MONTHS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR ASSISTANCE, BUT HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM EITHER. I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT WAS SETTLED IN 2016 FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK AND REPAIR OR REPLACE ALL OF THE AFFECTED PARTS OF THE TRUCK DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE. I USE MY TRUCK TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF MY MOM WHO LIVES 600+ MILES FROM ME; MY MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK FOR LONG DISTANCES. THIS HAS A SUBSTANTIAL IMPACT ON MY DAILY LIFE AND MY ABILITY TO TAKE CARE OF MY MOM. I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO BARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY OF THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY DEFICIENT PARTS USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE MADE LIABLE FOR THESE DAMAGES. PLEASE ADVISE. I WILL BE CONTACTING MY LAWYER.
STEERING LOCKING UP.TOOK SHAFT OFF WITH U JOINT. GOT OT TO LOOSEN UPWITH HEAT AND LUBE.PUT BACK ON TILL I CAN GET NEW ONE.DTARTING TO LOCK UP AGAIN. HAD FRAME RECALL DONE.TOYOTA SAID NO RECALL ON JOINT AT THAT TIME.
THE FRAME HAS RUSTED AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T REPLACE FOR FREE THE WHOLE FRAME IS RUSTED AND WHERE THE SUSPENSION IS HOLDING WITH THE NUTS ARE STARTING TO LOOK VERY DANGERS ALSO IT HAS A GOOD AMOUNT OF WHOLE AND I WAS TOLD I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE WHICH IS HORRIBLE BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY FAULT I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE SALT IS USED IT'S TOYOTA FAULT SINCE THEY DIDN'T USE THE RIGHT METAL OR WHATEVER FOR THE FRAME AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH 119,000 MILES THAT I DON'T FEEL SAFE USING WHEN DRIVING
Driver side air bag is not operational. Horn doesn't work. There was a spiral cable assembly recall for the 2006 Toyota Tacoma as well as air bag recall. My Vin number was not included but my vehicle is affected. Will this be corrected by Toyota. My vehicle only has 125,000 miles.
THE VEHICLE FRAME IS SO RUSTY EVERYWHERE INCLUDING VISIBLE CRACKS THAT I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. I AM SURE IT WILL NOT BE SAFE TO TOW ANYTHING FOR SURE OR THE THING WILL BREAK IN HALF.

TOOK MY TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP FOR LEAF SPRING RECALL. THEY CHECKED VIN ,AND GAVE ME A COURTESY CAR WHILE THEY DO THE WOR. THEY CALLED ME LATER IN DAY AND SAID THEY WONT DO IT DUE TO MY TRUCK BEING MODIFIED (LIFTED). NOW YES MY TRUCK IS LIFTED, HOWEVER THERE IS NO MODIFICATION TO THE SPRINGS. THERE IS BLOCKS IN THE REAR THAT SIMPLY LET THE SPRINGS MOUNT ON THE TOP OF THE BLOCK INSTEAD OF THE TOP OF THE AXLE AND DOES NOT AFFECT OR CHANGE ANY DYNAMICS OR FUNCTION TO THE SPRINGS. I DONT FEEL THIS IS RIGHT,WITH THIS BEING A LIFE SAFTEY ISSUE. MY TRUCK IS PART OF THE RECALL AND MY SPRINGS ARE WEEK AND A SAFTEY HAZZARD.
I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE INTENTION OF PARKING IN THE GARAGE. I WAS SLOWLY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, TURNING INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE SIMULTANEOUSLY STARTED TO SQUEAL (AS I WAS ON THE BRAKE) AND ACCELERATE. I KEPT PUSHING HARDER AND HARDER ON THE BRAKE, THE SQUEALING CONTINUED. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF PRIOR TO CRASHING INTO ANYTHING.
I TOOK MY TOYOTA TACOMA 2006 IN FOR SERVICE AT PAULY TOYOTA 1035 S. ROUTE 31, CRYSTAL LAKE, IL 60014 LAST NIGHT AND THEY FOUND SEVERAL CRACKS IN THE FRAME, THE AREA WERE THE SPRINGS ARE MOUNTING TO, IS REALLY RUSTED AND IN REALLY BAD CONDITION. THE CRACKS DON'T SEEM TO BE NEW, AND THERE IS EVEN PAINT IN BETWEEN THE CRACK SO THEY KNEW THE CRACK WAS THERE IN FEBRUARY 2015 WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK TO BE PAINTED, THIS WAS PART OF THE FRAME RUST RECALL BY TOYOTA. THE FRAME WAS NOT WIRE BRUSH AT LEAST TO GET SOME OF THE RUST OFF FOR THE PAINT TO ATTACH TO IT, WITHIN 2 MONTHS BIG PIECES OF METAL AND PAINT WERE FALLING FROM THE FRAME. ON SEPTEMBER OF 2015 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO PAULY TOYOTA TO BE INSPECTED FOR HOLE OR PROBLEMS IN THE FRAME, BECAUSE OF THE BIG PIECES OF METAL FALLING FROM THE FRAME AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK. NOW A YEAR LATER THE FRAME HAS SEVERAL CRACKS.
I JUST PULLED MY TRUCK INTO MY FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY. CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WENT TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION FROM DRIVE INTO PARK. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE ENGINE REVS UP, THE WHEELS SPIN; I'M STANDING ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP MY TRUCK FROM ADVANCING FORWARD. BUT MY TRUCK PULLS FORWARD AND CRASHES THROUGH MY FRIEND'S GARAGE DOOR. I FINALLY GOT IT TO STOP BY COMPLETING THE SHIFT INTO PARK AND LETTING OFF ON THE BRAKE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO OTHER CAR IN THE GARAGE, AND NO ONE GOT HURT.
VIBRATION EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELLING AT LOWER SPEED, 20 MPH.
BROKEN REAR LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY: THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN IN TOYOTAS SINCE THE FIRST GENERATION TACOMAS BUT WORSE IN THE SECOND GENERATION. THE LEAF SPRINGS AREN'T PROPERLY EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THE TOWING CAPACITY OUTLINED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND WILL CRACK, FLATTEN, OR BREAK UNDER TOO MUCH WEIGHT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT NEEDED REPLACED ON 11/7/2016. TOYOTA ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE IN 2007 BY RELEASING A TSB STATING THAT THEY'D REPLACE THE SPRINGS ON ANY SECOND-GEN TACOMA STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MINE IN 2006. I HAVE LIVED IN THE SAME LOCATION FOR OVER 25 YEARS.*DT CONSUMER DISCOVERED DEALERSHIP DID PERFORM THE REPAIRS AND WOULD LIKE COMPLAINT TO BE CANCELLED.*JB
REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAK. THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL IN THE 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA BUT MY 2006 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM STARTING YEARS AGO. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS LEAKING UNTIL I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.

2006 TOYOTA FRAME RUST ON TACOMA
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 06 TACOMA, 140 THOUSAND MILES. IN APRIL I WAS INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE FRAME APPEARED TO HAVE EXTENSIVE RUST. HE CHECKED FOR A RECALL AND FOUND THAT IT HAD ENDED THE PREVIOUS MONTH. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA HAD A RECALL (THAT I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF) AND HAD REPLACED THOUSANDS OF FRAMES. AFTER MORE RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE THE 1990'S. I RECENTLY TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOYOTA OF TURNERSVILLE NJ FOR OTHER WARRANTY WORK AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD CHECK THE FRAME. THE NOTE THEY LEFT ON THE RECEIPT STATED "EXTENSIVE RUSTING OF BOTH FRONT FRAME RAILS. DO NOT RECOMMEND LONG TRIPS OF HEAVY LOADS!! " THIS TRUCK IS USED TO TRAVEL FROM NJ TO VA. USUALLY WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN SOMETIMES TWICE A MONTH. THE SERVICE REP. ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM WAS THAT MAYBE I COULD FIND SOMEONE TO WELD SOME STEEL TO THE FRAME ???...I JUST HOPE THAT MY ISSUE (AND I AM SURE THERE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS) CAN BE RESOLVED BRFORE SOMEONE HAS TO DIE ON THE HIGHWAY AS IS TYPICAL.

I SPOKE WITH AN EXECUTIVE WITH TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER SINCE IT IS AFTER THE EXPIRATION DATE. THEY SAID THEY MAILED OUT 3 NOTICES IN REGARDS TO THE CAMPAIGN IN WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE A ONE. I OBVIOUSLY WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE HAD I KNOWN. I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT EXTEND THIS CAMPAIGN OR THAT IT WOULD NOT BE DEEMED AS A FULL BLOWN RECALL WITH NO EXPIRATION! HOW CAN SUCH A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE! VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR FRAME CORROSION THAT EXPIRED MARCH 2016. I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS CAMPAIGN AND WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE CAMPAIGN AND THAT THE CURRENT STATE OF THE FRAME IS QUESTIONABLE TO PASS VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION NEXT YEAR. I HAVE FILED A BBB COMPLAINT AND THE RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA WAS THAT THEY ARE COMPLIANT WITH ALL REGULATIONS AND THAT NO ACCOMMODATION OR EXTENSION OF THE LSC WILL BE CONSIDERED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHO NOW HAS A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY FAIL DUE TO AN ACKNOWLEDGED DEFECT BY THE MANUFACTURER.
I TOO AM A VICTIM OF THE DEFECTIVE TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME. THE FRAME OF MY VEHICLE RUSTED THROUGH TO THE POINT OF BREAKING, RENDERING MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 78,000 MILES, AND IS NOW UTTERLY WORTHLESS. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN I FELT THE FRAME GIVE WAY, IMMEDIATELY CHANGING THE ENTIRE DYNAMIC OF PERFORMANCE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MY HOME WHEN I DISCOVERED THE FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY, DROPPING THE VEHICLE BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE BED. ONLY LUCK AND MY OWN DRIVING EXPERIENCE KEPT ME FROM CRASHING WHEN THE DEFECTIVE FRAME FAILED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA, THINKING THAT THIS ISSUE WOULD BE HANDLED BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS WRONG ABOUT THIS, AND WAS MET WITH COMPLETE DISREGARD AND A SMUG ASSURANCE THAT TOYOTA WOULD NEVER MAKE ANY AMENDS FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I WAS TOLD THAT A NOTICE WAS MAILED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND THAT THIS MET THEIR OBLIGATION AND THAT NOTHING FURTHER WOULD BE DONE CONCERNING THE MATTER. TO SAY THAT THE AMERICAN CONSUMER HAS BEEN TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF IN THIS SITUATION IS A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT. FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS EXACT SITUATION, IT IS CLEAR THAT THERE IS A SYSTEMIC DEFECT IN THE FRAME USED BY TOYOTA IN THESE VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THIS, BUT INSTEAD OF MAKING EFFORTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, THEY ARE EXPENDING THEIR RESOURCES TO DEFEND NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. JUST BECAUSE THE COMPANY SET AN ARBITRARY DATE WHEN THEY WOULD NO LONGER ADDRESS THE ISSUE DOES NOT MAKE THE ISSUE GO AWAY. THEY KNOWINGLY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS IN THESE VEHICLES AND ARE NOW ENGAGED IN A DECEPTIVE AND MANIPULATIVE CAMPAIGN TO SHIRK THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE AMERICAN CONSUMER. I IMPLORE THE NHSTA TO BE THE VOICE OF THE INDIVIDUAL IN THIS MATTER, AS ALONE, WE HAVE NO RECOURSE.

I TOOK TO MY DEALER, THEY INSPECTED IT AND FOUND NO HOLES IN MY FRAME. THEY WILL APPLY THE COATING AND SENT ME ON MY MARRY WAY. THIS WAS BACK IN 1/20/2015. NOW FAST FORWARD TO 9/6/2016 AND NOW I HAVE A BIG HOLE IN MY FRAME AND A LOT MORE RUST THEN BEFORE. I DON'T TAKE TO BEACH. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THE TRUCK BUT IT'S THAT DEFECTIVE FRAME THAT IS ON THE TRUCK. I KNOW 95-00 TACOMA'S DID A BUY BACK PROGRAM A FEW YEARS AGO. THE 2001-2004 IF THE FRAME GOT COATED YOU GAVE THE A 15 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE FRAME. 2005-2008 TACOMA'S IN CANADA GOT THE SAME 15 YEAR WARRANTY IF THE FRAME GOT COATED. SO WHY NOT 2005-2008 TACOMA"S IN THE USA DON'T HAVE THAT WARRANTY? MY POINT IS YOU KINDA NEED TO WORK WITH ME AND OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS WILL BE AN SAFETY ISSUE AT SOME POINT. THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS. PLEASE HELP ME OUT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. "
DURING A RECENT SAFETY INSPECTION, THE INSPECTOR NOTED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND IN ONE SPOT WAS RUSTED THROUGH. CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN INITIATED BUT HAD EXPIRED IN MARCH OF 2016. ADDITIONALLY, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT SAFETY RELATED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL. DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH A FRAME THAT MAY FAIL IS NOT SAFE. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL AND THAT THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR THIS UNSAFE CONDITION CAUSED BY LACK OF A VIABLE QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM.
THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK IS DANGEROUSLY RUSTED, AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO HONOR ITS OWN RECALL COMMITMENT TO REPLACE THE FRAME BECAUSE OF AN ARBITRARY DEADLINE FOR INSPECTION. THE DATE IS IRRELEVANT TO THE BASIC PROBLEM -- THEIR FRAME IS DEFECTIVE, I AND MY PASSENGERS ARE AT RISK, AND REPAIR IS URGENTLY NEEDED.
