THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TOTAL SPRING ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE PART ASSOCIATED WITH THE REAR LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY DUE TO THE PART PREMATURELY DETERIORATING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO RECEIVE THE PART FROM THE DEALER FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER A BUMP, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
WE LEFT OUR TRUCK AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF RATTLE IN FRONT END, STATE INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US WITHOUT REPAIR AS THERE IS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT OUR VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL, BUT MAY BE INCLUDED IN THE UPCOMING RECALL. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH A TIME FRAME AND IF OUR VEHICLE IS DEFINITELY INCLUDED. MY HUSBAND USES THIS VEHICLE TO COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK DAILY AND I FEAR FOR HIS SAFETY. *TR
MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON LAST WEEK AND I FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT DUE TO A SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY TOYOTA WAS NOT COVERED FOR MY TACOMA MODEL. FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED IT IS THE SPIRAL CABLE AND THEY ARE CHARGING ME $600.00. THEY SAID IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. *TR
MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON LAST WEEK AND I FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ONLINE. WHEN I BROUGHT MY TACOMA TO THE DEALERSHIP THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT DUE TO A SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT COVERED FOR MY TACOMA MODEL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE CURRENT RECALL WAS FOR A CERTAIN SPIRAL CABLE NOT IN MY MODEL TACOMA AND THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE THE ISSUE. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED IT IS THE SPIRAL CABLE AND THEY ARE CHARGING ME $600.00 TO REPAIR A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED IF I WERE TO HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING A NOISE FROM THE BACK END. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED AT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK AND BOTH SPRING SHACKLES WERE RUSTED AWAY AND HOLES IN THE FRAME ABOVE THEM. THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE PROBLEM BUT WE AREN'T GOING TO FIX IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IN AUGUST TO ADDRESS THE RECALLS NEEDING TO BE DONE. THEY TELL ME THEY ARE BACKED UP TRYING TO GET RECALLS FIXED. IT IS NOW NOVEMBER AND HAVE NOT BEEN CALLED YET. NOW THE LEAF SPRINGS ARE ON RECALL. I REPLACED ONE LEAF SPRING IN SEPTEMBER 2014 DUE TO IT SNAPPING.WILL I GET REIMBURSED FROM TOYOTA FOR THIS REPAIR?? I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AS TO WHEN THEY CAN FIX THE RECALLS, THEY SAID THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN THEY CAN GET ME IN. WHAT YEAR WILL THAT BE? WILL MY SECOND LEAF SPRING SNAP AND PUNCTURE THE TANK BEFORE IT GETS REPAIRED? OR WILL THE FRAME POSSIBLE RUST OUT AND FALL ON THE LEAF SPRINGS....... I LOVE TOYOTA TACOMAS, DISAPPOINTED IN THE FOLLOW THRU/TIMELINESS ON FIXING THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
'FRAME PROBLEM" RUST PROBLEM MY TACOMA HAS AN EXCESSIVE RUST PROBLEM ON THE FRAME. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH MY TO KIDS AM AFRAID THE TRUCK WILL NOT HOLD ON THE ROAD WHILE HITTING POT HOLES (ONE OF THEM IS 5 AND MY OLDEST ONE IS 10) I AM LIMITED TO WHERE TO GO THIS IS MY EVERYDAY CAR, IT IS NOT COOL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND NOTHING. THIS TRUCK IS AN 8 YEAR OLD CAR THAT SHOULD'NT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, ON TOYOTA FORUMS IT SIMS EVERYONE HAS THIS PROBLEM. PARKING BRAKE SLEEVE BROKE AT REAR WHEELS CAUSING THE CABLE TO SEIZE IN THE SLEEVE AND MAKING THE REAR WHEELS LOCKUP OR PARKING BRAKE TO FAIL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING AN UNRELATED REPAIR, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
SIGNIFICANT RUST IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. BASEBALL SIZE HOLE IN THE FRAME ADJACENT TO THE DRIVER SIDE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MAJOR RUST THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE FRAME. YOU CAN SEE SWELLING IN SOME AREAS WHERE THERE ARE TWO LAYERS OF STEEL THAT ARE SANDWICHED TOGETHER. BRAKE AND FUEL LINES HAVE SEVERE CORROSION. FACTORY INSTALLED TOWING HITCH IS COMPLETELY UN-USABLE DUE TO SEVERE RUST. TOYOTA CORPORATE TOLD ME I AM OUT LUCK. WOULD HATE TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IN A CRASH OF ONE OF THESE TRUCKS WITH A DEFECTIVE FRAME! THE BRAKES COULD FAIL ALSO DUE TO THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES. FUEL LINES COULD ALSO START LEAKING AT SOME POINT CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
RETURNING HOME WITH MY GRANDSON FROM VISITING A STATE UNIVERSITY I HEAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT A RUBBER BUSHING HAD FAILED BECAUSE PREVIOUS MODELS OF TOYOTAS (TERCELS) MADE THE SAME SOUND WHEN THE TORSION BAR BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPON RETURNING HOME I FOUND THE SWAY BAR HAD COME OUT OF THE LEFT BRACKET WHICH SECURES IT TO THE FRAME AND WAS STRIKING THE FRONT LEFT SPRING OF THE SPRING AND SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY. THE SWAY BAR BRACKET HAD BENT UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE SWAY BAR BECAUSE THE FRAME HAD RUSTED OUT WHERE THE REAR SWAY BAY BRACKET MOUNTING BOLT CONNECTS TO THE FRAME. THERE IS NO FRAME MATERIAL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME TO REATTACH THE SWAY BAR BRACKET.THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT. LOOKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME IT HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS SINCE 1977 OR 78. OWNING TERCELS, COROLLA, CAMRY, 1995 TOYOTA PICKUP AND A 4RUNNER. TOYOTA QUALITY THIS TACOMA IS NOT! *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR FRAME RUST WHICH I RESPONDED TO ON JULY 11, 2014. THEY TREATED MY TRUCK FRAME WITH A CHEMICAL AND UNDER COATING SAYING THERE WAS NO RUST THROUGH AND MY FRAME WOULD NOT BE REPLACED. SIX MONTHS LATER I HAVE RUST THROUGH ON THE FRAME AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANY FURTHER REPAIRS ON IT. I FEEL THEY JUST COVERED UP THE RUST PROBLEM SO I WOULDN'T SEE IT AND NOW ITS A PROBLEM. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY BEEN DECLARED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM EXPERIENCING EXTREME AND UNUSUAL RUST AND CORROSION ON THE FRAME OF MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF RUST YOU WOULD EXPECT TO SEE DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE FIRST INDICATION FROM MY DEALER THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WAS WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK IN ON 07/10/14 FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME WAS SO SEVERELY COMPROMISED BY RUST AND CORROSION THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT IT BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I WAS TAKEN INTO THE SERVICE AREA AND SHOWN THE TRUCK ON A LIFT, I COULD SEE THAT THERE WERE ACTUAL HOLES ROTTED THROUGH THE FRAME AND IT HAD LITERALLY BEGUN FLAKING AND FALLING APART. I CONTACTED A CERTIFIED WELDING TECHNICIAN AND HAD THE AFFECTED AREAS REINFORCED AS BEST WE COULD. WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO BE INSPECTED ON 09/16/14, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT PASS DUE TO THE ADVANCED DETERIORATION OF THE FRAME, IN SPITE OF THE REPAIRS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL RUST FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD VEHICLE USED TO COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK. THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO DETERIORATION ANYWHERE ELSE. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY MY DEALER THAT THEY WILL NOT EVEN CONSIDER A TRADE-IN (KELLY BLUE BOOK TRADE IN-VALUE SHOULD BE $9,300 OR PRIVATE SALE $11,668). THE TRUCK IS BEAUTIFUL, LOOKS ALMOST NEW AND RUNS PERFECTLY AND IS WORTH NOTHING? THE ONLY ISSUE IS THE FRAME, WHICH IN THE OPINION OF THE AUTO BODY GARAGES I HAVE CONSULTED, WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PLEASE NOTE: TOYOTA NOW HAS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN IN PLACE FOR 2005-2008 TACOMA'S, FOR WHICH MY VIN IS NOT YET INCLUDED. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY TOYOTA AND BASED ON THE EVIDENCE PROVIDED BY MY OWN DEALER, CLEARLY EXISTS IN MY VEHICLE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS GROWING PROBLEM UNTIL THESE COMPROMISED FRAMES RESULT IN WIDESPREAD INJURY OR DEATH, PLEASE OPEN A NEW INVESTIGATION NOW.
DUE TO THE RUSTED FRAME ISSUES THAT I REPORTED TO TOYOTA ON 04/16/2014 (MULLER TOYOTA AND TOYOTA CORPORATE) MY CLUTCH PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR WHEN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH WHEN THE RUSTED CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER STUCK . THERE ARE BIG RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME AND TOYOTA FREELY ADMITS THAT THEY ARE DEFECTIVE FRAMES , BUT WON'T HAVE A RECALL ON THOSE MODEL TACOMAS UNTIL ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN OR GET INJURED OR KILLED ! SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THESE DEFECTIVE FRAMES THAT RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. *JS
VEHICLE FAILED PA INSPECTION DUE TO EXTENSIVELY RUSTED FRAME. THE ENTIRE FRAME HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. THERE ARE VISIBLE HOLES IN THE FRAME INCLUDING SPARE TIRE SUPPORT, GAS TANK SUPPORTS, ETC. THE DEALER AND I BOTH CONTACTED TOYOTA BUT THEY REFUSE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT BECAUSE THE SAID THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SINCE NO NOTICE HAS COME FROM NHTSB. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THIS SAME PROBLEM IS KNOWN ON EARLIER MODELS OF THE TACOMA AND THE TOYOTA TUNDRA. *TR
THE VEHICLE FRAME IS VERY CORRODED IN NUMEROUS SPOTS, ESPECIALLY IN WELD AREAS AND BEHIND THE FRONT WHEELS. SOME FASTENERS ALSO APPEAR TO BE ABNORMALLY CORRODED. THE ENGINE ACCESSORY PULLEYS ARE ALSO IN VERY POOR CONDITION. THE CORROSION IS ODD IN THAT IT IS NOT CONSISTENT. I MEAN THAT SOME COMPONENTS AND FASTENERS SHOW MINOR CORROSION WHILE OTHERS ARE EXCESSIVE. THE VEHICLE FRAME IS ALSO VERY CORRODED IN ISOLATED AREAS AND NOT UNIFORM. ODD. *TR
HOLES ARE RUSTING IN THE FRAME. *JS
THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALL RUSTY ON MY TRUCK. I HAD TO HAVE ONE BRAKE LINE REPLACED AND ALL ARE IN DANGER OF LEAKING AT ANY TIME. THERE IS SO MUCH RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY TRUCK THAT MORE OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE GOING TO BREAK AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ALSO I JUST HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPLACED AT 63000 MILES AND THE LINES TO THE STEERING RACK WERE RUSTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
FRAME RUST DEEMED SO BAD BY TOYOTA TECH THAT HE REFUSED TO PUT THE TRUCK ON A RACK FOR INSPECTION AND SERVICE. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT RUSTING OF MY FRAME. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT IT WITH LITTLE SATISFACTION. I ALSO WAITING EXCESSIVELY ABOUT REAR LEAF SPRINGS RECALL NOTICES. REMEDY TAKING TOO LONG. I ALSO ISSUES WITH TSB BUT TOYOTA PLACING BURDEN ON OWNER, NOT COMPANY.
I RECEIVED A LETTER IN 2014 ABOUT POSSIBLE FRAME RUST ISSUES AND WAS ASKED TO HAVE MINE CHECKED AT A TOYOTA DEALER. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD MY FRAME WAS OK BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY SPRAYED A RUST INHIBITOR ON THE FRAME TO BE SURE. I WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT POSSIBLE REAR LEAF SPRINGS IN 2017. I TOOK THE VECHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER (STEVEN TOYOTA IN HARRISONBURG VA.) AND THEY REPLACED THE REAR SPRINGS BUT SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE FRAME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TOOK AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IN AUGUST 2019 TO HAVE A MUFFLE INSTALLED AND THEY CONTACTED ME AND INFORMED ME THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS RUSTED BADLY RUSTED OUT. ON FUTHER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SPRAYED WITH RUST INHIBITOR ONLY THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME WAS SPRAYED, NOTHING UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS SPRAYED AND THAT IS WHERE THE DAMAGE IS NOW. AT LEAST 2 OF THE CROSS MEMBERS HAVE RUSTED INTO 2 SEPARATE PIECES SO THEY NOW SUPPORT NOTHING. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO TOYOTA CORP. AND THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I ALSO REPORTED IT TO STEVEN TOYOTA IN HARRISONBURG VA AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD THE RECORDS OF THE VEHICLE FRAME BEING SPRAYED IN 2014 AND SPRINGS BEING REPLACE IN 2017 BUT THEY ALSO REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IN MY OPINION AND IN OTHER MECHANICS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH WHEN THE SPRINGS WERE REPLACED IN 2017 THE RUST ISSUE HAD TO BE NOTICED BECAUSE OF HOW BADLY IT IS RUSTED AT THIS TIME.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,983.
MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME IS TERRIBLY RUSTED EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD IT CLEANED AND UNDERCOATED FOR BEGINNERS. BUT MY MAIN ISSUE IS THE FACT THAT MY LEAF SPRINGS ALREADY NEED REPLACED. THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING CREAKING NOISES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BECAUSE THEY ARE JUNK ALREADY. BUT THEN, THE LEFT SIDE LEAF SPRING COMPLETELY CRACKED AND THAT'S NOT EVEN EFFECTED BY THE RUST. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING TO PAY SO MUCH JUST TO TRY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE BODY IN WORKING ORDER. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY TRUCK FOR ABOUT 2 1/2 YEARS. THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST AND ROT. THERE ARE SEVERAL HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME DUE TO ROT AND CORROSION WHICH ARE NOT NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD. ON THE DRIVERS SIDE NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THERE IS A HOLE. ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN THE REAR OF THE BODY MOUNT THERE IS A HOLE AS WELL AS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME WHERE THE C CHANNEL BUTTS TOGETHER RIGHT BELOW THE BODY MOUNT. THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO HAS A HOLE BY ONE OF THE EXHAUST HANGERS ABOUT 2"X3". THERE IS SIGNIFICANT RUST AND FLAKING ALONG THE ENTIRE FRAME. THE TOW HITCH HAS SIGNIFIACNT RUST AND HOLES AS WELL. ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO IN MID JUNE AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA AND HAVING THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, IN RIVERHEAD NY, LOOK AT MY FRAME AND SUBMIT SOME PICTURES TO TOYOTA CORPORATE ONLY TO BE TOLD TOO BAD WE AREN'T REPLACING FRAMES IN NY. I HAD A GAS TANK SUPPORT STRAP FAIL WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, LUCKILY I DIDN'T LOSE THE GAS TANK AND END UP IN A BALL OF FLAMES. I ALSO REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD I WAS LIABLE TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK STRAPS. THERE IS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES WITH THESE FRAMES BUT WHEN I LOG ON TO THE TOYOTA OWNERS WEBSITE I CAN NOT FIND ANY MENTION OF SUCH CAMPAIGN. HOWEVER THERE IS THREAD ON A TACOMA ENTHUSIAST SITE, TACOMAWORLD.COM WHERE PEOPLE ARE POSTING AND TRACKING THEIR RESPECTIVE PROGRESS WITH TOYOTA AND THE ISSUES WITH THEIR FRAMES. THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE FRAME PROBLEMS HOWEVER RIGHT NOW TOYOTA IS NOT REPLACING FRAMES. I SPOKE TO SOMEONE AT TOYOTA CORPORATE ABOUT MY PARTICULAR FRAME AND SHE STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUES AND MY FRAME MEETS THE CRITERIA TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE IT. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM FOR SEVERAL SAFETY RECALLS TO BE IMPLEMENTED/FIXED. I HAD THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP INSPECT THE FRAME WHILE UP ON THE LIFT. THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND TO BE BADLY RUSTED WITH ACTUAL HOLES PRESENT IN THE FRAME. HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT. THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA STOPS WORKING AND MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AT TIMES. I TOOK MY 2006 TACOMA TO HAVE A 5K SERVICE. THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT I HAD EXTENSIVE RUST UNDER THE CARRIAGE AND THAT IT NEED TO BE FIXED ASAP. HE SAID THAT IT WOULD INVOLVE REMOVING THE RUST AND THEN APPLYING RUSTPROOFING. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT RUST ISSUES FROM OTHER OWNERS AND TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. THIS HAS TO BE DEALT WTITH ASAP. WHEN HE FIRST LOOKED AT TRUCK AS I DROVE IN, HE SAID YOUR TRUCK LOOKS GREAT, NO RUST ON UPPER PAINTED SURFACES. WHEN HE LOOKED UNDERNEATH HE REMARKED HE HAD NEVER SEEN RUST SO BAD ON SUCH A NEW TRUCK! I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY INSTANCES OF A VOLUNTARY RECALL ON TACOMA FRAMES MODEL YEAR 1998-2004) TO EITHER BE REPLACED AT TOYOTAS COST OR BUY BACK, BECAUSE INFERIOR METAL HAD BEEN USED. I DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME ON MY TOYOTA TRUCK IS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED. IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE UNBELIEVABLE WHEN YOU COMPARE THE FRAME TO EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK. EVERY OTHER COMPONENT ON THE UNDERSIDE IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION BUT THERE IS HARDLY AN AREA OF THE FRAME THAT IS NOT RUSTED. THERE ARE SOME AREAS THAT HAVE THE CLASSIC "POTATO CHIP" SCALING THAT HAS EATEN THROUGH ABOUT 1/2 THE ORIGINAL THICKNESS OF THE METAL. THE RUST APPEARS ON BOTH FLAT SURFACES AND WELDS. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THERE SEEMS TO BE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS---MANY ARE EVEN NEWER, LOW MILEAGE SUNBELT TRUCKS. I GUESS IT'S OBVIOUS TOYOTA NEVER ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THEIR FRAME ISSUES THAT PROMPTED THE PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE 95-04 MODELS. I SURMISE THAT ROOT CAUSE IS USING CHEAP, INFERIOR, RECYCLED METAL TO SAVE MONEY. BTW, MY PREVIOUS TRUCK WAS A 1990 TOYOTA THAT I DROVE UNTIL THE BODY FELL OFF IN 2009. AFTER 19 YEARS (THAT'S 19 PENNSYLVANIA WINTERS), THAT FRAME WAS SPOTLESS WITH MOST OF THE ORIGINAL PAINT STILL REMAINING. IN EVERY OTHER RESPECT, I LOVE THIS TRUCK. LOCAL MECHANICS AND BODY SHOPS ALIKE HAVE SAID THEY HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS ON SUCH A NEW(ISH) TRUCK. LEM, THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THE RUST IS DUE TO A CHEMICAL COMPOUND EFFECTING THE FRAME AND IT'S OUT OF THEIR HANDS. "WARRANTY REVIEWED PHOTOS AND DETERMINED THAT IT''S SURFACE RUST AND NOT PERFORATION CORROSION. RUST ON SURFACE IS EATING IT''S WAY THROUGHOUT ALL METAL PARTS OF THE VEHICLE." DOES CHEMICAL COMPOUND MEAN RAIN WATER? RAIN WATER DRIPS FROM THE BACK OF THE BED, THROUGH THE BODY ONTO THE BRACKETS. THIS IS THE EPICENTER OF THE RUST PROBLEM. EARLIER IN 2012 I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THIS SAME RUST, WHICH ATE AWAY MY BUMPER. TOYOTA SAID THIS WASN'T UNUSUAL AND THEY WOULDN'T HELP ME. WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. I COMPLAINED LOCALLY, AND WROTE A LETTER TO CORPORATE - NO RESPONSE. ON 10/9/12 I PAID $600.18 FOR A NEW BUMPER - TOYOTA INSTALLED. THEY DIDN'T NOT ADDRESS THE FRAME RUST AT THAT TIME.NOW, 16 MONTHS I HAVE A TRUCK THAT IS STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY - WITH RUST STAINS ALL OVER THE CONCRETE. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BY A TOYOTA DEALER. ON TUESDAY, FEB 4, 2014, THE TRUCK WAS INSPECTED BY ALLEGHENY TOYOTA IN FRANKLIN, PA. ON THE 5TH OF FEB. (YESTERDAY) THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT I COULD, AT MY OWN EXPENSE, COVER THE RUST PROBLEM WITH SOME KIND OF COATING. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FRAME RUST PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 TACOMA. IN THE PAST TOYOTA ADMITTED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH EARLIER BUILT TACOMAS AND CORRECTED THEM EITHER BY REPLACING THE FRAMES OR MONETARY COMPENSATION. I WOULD LIKE MY TRUCK REPAIRED . I WAS TOLD THAT NO DECISION ON FIXING THE ISSUE HAS BEEN MADE BY TOYOTA. SERVICE MANAGER THEN CALLED ME TO BAY AS SOON AS TECH TOLD HIM AND SHOWED ME THE RUST AND CRACK AND WHOLES HE THEN ADVISED ME TO CALL THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFICE 1-800 331-4331 I CALLED AND SPOKE TO A REP WHO THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME BECAUSE MY TRUCK DOES NOT FIT THE CRITERIA FOR RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL THE FAILURES OCCURRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
