I was driving and all of the sudden I felt a vibration when I let off the gas...I checked under and saw that the drive shaft/yoke was separated a little, so I decided not to drive it anymore and to disassemble it and found out that the lock nut is missing and more likely it came off. I've noticed that no sign that the lock been staked to lock in position (picture attached)...this is a near miss and could possibly there are more like this on the road that could lead to a very serious accident if this comes off while running in high speed. I bought this car in 2005 brand new, and I know for sure that this never been work on...I am a mechanic myself so I does the Maintenace to all my cars...I just want to make the company aware to prevent any possible serious accident...I owe 5 Toyota cars and I know one of the best and safest vehicle.
WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD AROUND 112,000 MILES ON IT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT EXPERIENCED IRREGULARITIES WITH REGARD TO SHIFTING. THE CODE WAS RAN AND THE SHIFT SOLENOID WAS THE ISSUE. A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS RECOMMENDED. WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SECOND HAND. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE SHIFTING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. UNFORTUNATELY BY THE TIME WE TOOK IT TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA DEALER THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY. THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE ISSUE IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL ISSUE AND IF THE VEHICLE CAN BE TRUSTED. THE CERTIFIED DEALER RECOMMENDS A COSTLY TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO VERIFY THE ISSUE.

REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAK. THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL IN THE 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA BUT MY 2006 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM STARTING YEARS AGO. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS LEAKING UNTIL I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.
I TOOK MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TO BOCH TOYOTA AS PART OF TOYOTA SERVICE CAMPAIGN REGARDING FRAME RECALL BACK IN DEC OF 2015. I WAITED 5 MONTHS TO GET MY TRUCK BACK TO GET IT BACK IN DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS. TRUCK WAS NOT REPAIRED SATISFACTORILY AND I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH IT. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO TOYOTA AND BOTH TOYOTA TO NO AVAIL. TRUCK BARELY RUNNING. *TR
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WHICH HAS 125331 MILES. ON MAY 11, 2015, WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA, FOR THE REPAIR OF THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT WHICH HAD FAILED. I WAS EXPERIENCING A VIBRATION EVEN WHEN DRIVING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS THAT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I HAVE ENCLOSED THE PAPERWORK DESCRIBING THE REPAIR, WHICH I BELIEVE WAS TIED TO A RECALL, AND ANOTHER REPAIR. OCTOBER 19, 2012, THE RIGHT REAR LEAF SPRING CRACKED AND NEEDED REPAIR, MILEAGE WAS 92303. AT THE TIME WE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS, AND THE REPAIR FOR THE RIGHT HAD COST US 1408.11. THE REPAIR SHOP ALSO NOTICED AT THE TIME THAT THE LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING WAS ALSO FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, THAT WAS REPAIRED A FEW DAYS LATER 10/23/2012 THE COST 1407.61. AT THE TIME WE HAD DRIVEN AROUND NOT KNOWING WHAT THE VIBRATION WAS ONLY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. THE FAULTY LEAF SPRINGS WE WERE TOLD AT A LATER DATE BY THE TOYOTA DEALER MAY HAVE PLAYED A FACTOR IN THE ABOVE REPAIR. THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN CAUSED BY THE FAULTY LEAF SPRING. ON OCTOBER 27, 2006 THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED, THE MILEAGE AT THIS TIME WAS 90102. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS 2866.18. WE ALSO HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES JUST GOING ON THE VEHICLE WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IN OCTOBER. HE LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN USING THE TRANSMISSION TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA, WHICH IS WHERE HE HAD HAD THE BRAKE FLUID REPLACED A FEW MONTHS PRIOR, PAID IN FULL FOR ALL REPAIRS AT THE TIME. SO I FEEL THIS ISSUE WAS PROBABLY THE FAULT OF MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA.
DUE TO THE RUSTED FRAME ISSUES THAT I REPORTED TO TOYOTA ON 04/16/2014 (MULLER TOYOTA AND TOYOTA CORPORATE) MY CLUTCH PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR WHEN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH WHEN THE RUSTED CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER STUCK . THERE ARE BIG RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME AND TOYOTA FREELY ADMITS THAT THEY ARE DEFECTIVE FRAMES , BUT WON'T HAVE A RECALL ON THOSE MODEL TACOMAS UNTIL ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN OR GET INJURED OR KILLED ! SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THESE DEFECTIVE FRAMES THAT RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. *JS

I WAS SLOWLY ENTERING A PARKING SPACE. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASED TO MAXIMUM RPM. I JAMMED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THREW THE TRANSMISSION INTO "PARK." A GREAT CLOUD OF BLUE SMOKE ISSUED FORTH FROM THE SPINNING TIRES. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AND IT'S DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK AND NOT MY FOOT! SEVERAL YEARS AGO, AS A PEDESTRIAN, I SAW THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO A JEEP CHEROKEE AT A STOP SIGN. *TR
FOR AT LEAST 2 MOS PREVIOUS I WOULD HEAR A CHIRPING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT WOULD GET LOUDER AS YOU ACCELERATED & SEAMED MORE NOTICEABLE IN WARMER WEATHER. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DHC TORRANCE TOYOTA & SAID IT WAS MY IDLER BEARINGS. I THOUGHT THAT WAS ODD SINCE THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 37400 MILES. IT COST ME OVER $800.00. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE FAILURE BEGAN AFTER THE CONTACT HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT REFILLED PROPERLY. AFTER THE SERVICE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED TO ACCELERATE PASS THE SPEED THAT IT WAS SET WITH BEING RESET BY THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT, WHICH HAS CAUSED THE RPMS TO IDLE EITHER EXCESSIVELY LOW OR EXCESSIVELY HIGH. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO DOWNSHIFT FROM FIFTH GEAR TO SECOND GEAR WHEN DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 55 MPH AND ABOVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,118 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,557.
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SAME COMPLAINT AS OTHERS. LOW END RUMBLING SOUND AND VIBRATION IN FRONT END BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS, WHERE FRONT AXLES ENTER THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE, HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY (SLOP) IN THE BEARINGS. DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR THE BEARINGS EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE VIDEO TAPED THE CONDITION AS WELL AS THE MILEAGE AND WILL KEEP RECORDS OF MY MULTIPLE VISITS TO THE DEALER. I HAVE ALSO FOUND OTHER USED TACOMA TRUCKS ON DEALER LOTS WITH AS LITTLE AS 20,000 MILES THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE TOYOTA ENGINEERED THESE DIFFERENTIALS TO LAST ONLY 60,000 MI AND MOST OWNERS MAY NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM UNTIL WARRANTY IS OVER. MY 1992 TOYOTA PICKUP 4X4 WITH 238,000 MILES HAS LESS BEARING SLOP IN IT THAN THE '06. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILS TO GO INTO GEAR. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE AISIN AY6 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THE TACOMA FROM WHAT I SEE ON INTERNET FORUMS. A DANGER RESULTS IN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, MERGING OR MANY OTHER UNFORESEEN INCIDENTS WHERE IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE TRANSMISSION INTO THE NEXT GEAR. IN MY CASE, IT IS PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT FOR THE 1-2, 2-3 SHIFTS AND REVERSE. I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO TOYOTA NUMEROUS TIMES AND IN SHORT WAS MORE OR LESS TOLD TO "TAKE A HIKE" AND SOMETIMES IN A MANNER THAN WAS NOT THE MOST PLEASANT MEANS. THROWOUT BEARING ALSO SQUEAKS SINCE BRAND NEW (TSB POSTED?), AND TOYOTA'S ONLY ACTION IS TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER BEARING THAT WILL ONLY SQUEAK AGAIN ANYWAY. I DO NOT GET WHY I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY TAKE A TRUCK THAT IS BARELY DRIVEN IN FOR A COMPLAINT. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT, I (WE) PAID FOR A TOYOTA AND THEIR REPUTATION, BUT THIS WAS MY LAST PURCHASE FROM TOYOTA EVER. IT SEEMS THAT TO GET ANYTHING REPLACED ON EVERY VEHICLE AFFECTED BY THESE PROFOUND ISSUES, THAT SOMEONE MUST DIE AGAIN AS WITH THE GAS PEDAL INCIDENTS. *TW

I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT FOR 30 SECONDS. MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE RPM SUDDENLY JUMPED AND MY TRUCK SURGED AHEAD 8 FEET. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER DOUBLE CAB 4X2 V6. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE EXPERIENCED FOUR INSTANCES WHERE AFTER PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HARD, THUS INTO OVERDRIVE, THE TRUCK EITHER KEPT SPEEDING UP OR DID NOT REV BACK DOWN. 1ST INSTANCE - ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE, I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY AND NEEDED TO SPEED UP TO ENTER INTO TRAFFIC AT SPEED. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL HARD ENOUGH TO BOOST SPEED. AS I ENTERED TRAFFIC, THE TRUCK JUST KEPT SPEEDING UP. AFTER APPLYING A LIGHT BRAKE, I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND IT THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGED AND GEARED BACK DOWN. 2ND INSTANCE - WHILE LEAVING THE FREEWAY @ 65 MPH I SLOWED TO 45 MPH AND SWITCHED LANES TO THE RIGHT. THEN I APPLIED GAS TO SPEED UP TO MERGE AND THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN. AGAIN THE LINK BETWEEN THE THROTTLE AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SEEM TO REACTION AS IN A NORMAL SITUATION. I HAD TO MERGE BACK BECAUSE THE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN FAST ENOUGH. AFTER 4-5 SECONDS THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN. 3RD INSTANCE - AGAIN ENTERING THE FREEWAY. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL TO SPEED UP ENOUGH TO ENTER THE TRAFFIC. THIS TIME THE THROTTLE OPENED FULL BORE. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL, LIGHTLY APPLIED THE BRAKE, AND PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER 5 SECONDS THE TRUCK FINALLY REVVED BACK DOWN. I REACHED A SPEED OF OVER 90 MPH IN THIS INSTANCE. 4TH INSTANCE - DRIVING UPHILL THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY INCREASED THROTTLE WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL, THE TRUCK SURGED FORWARD, AGAIN FULL BORE. I USED THE SAME TECHNIQUE AND IT EVENTUALLY SLOWED. THIS PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY NOT A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. I NOW DRIVE MY TRUCK VERY GINGERLY SO AS NOT TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO TWO DEALERSHIPS, BOTH HAVE NOT BEEN HELPFUL OR HAVE RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM. SAYING THAT "YOUR TRUCK IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST WE SEE HERE, CALL THIS TOYOTA NUMBER." I KNOW THAT OTHERS WITH THE SAME MODEL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) ON DRY PAVEMENT DURING CONGESTED EVENING RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC IN REDMOND, WASHINGTON, USA. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING (DECELERATING) UP A GENTLE RIGHT-BENDING GRADE TO A YIELD SIGN FROM SOUTHBOUND 148TH AVE NE TO WESTBOUND REDMOND WAY (RTE 908). AS THE VEHICLE COASTED TO THE YIELD SIGN SLOWING THROUGH A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AT FULL POWER WITH THE TACHOMETER NEEDLE INDICATING APPROXIMATELY 5000-6000 RPM. THE DRIVER STATES WITH UTMOST CERTAINTY THAT HIS FOOT WAS NOT IN CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO OR DURING THE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED ON BUT THE DRIVER STATES WITH UTMOST CERTAINTY THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT SET/ENGAGED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO OR DURING THE INCIDENT. WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS OF THE ONSET OF THE RAPID UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, THE DRIVER APPLIED HEAVY BRAKING AND THE ACCELERATION CEASED. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE APPLICATION OF BRAKES. THE DRIVER STATES THAT NO SUBSEQUENT UNEXPECTED ACCELERATIONS HAVE OCCURRED SINCE THE REPORTED INCIDENT. *TR
