'TAKATA RECALL' THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARS TO HAVE A BULGE AT THE AIRBAG SEAMS. BOTH MY PERSONAL MECHANIC AND THE WORKERS AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HAVE STATED THIS IS A DEFECT INVOLVING THE AIRBAG WHERE THE COVER HAS DETACHED FROM THE SENSORS OR A COIL. THE SEPARATION IS INTERNAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND WAS PARKED(STATIONARY) WHEN THE BULGE OCCURRED.
WHEN SERVICING OUR TRUCK, DEALER HAS FOUND BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT REAR LEAF SPRINGS BROKEN. THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED FOR 690,000 TACOMA TRUCKS EXACTLY LIKE MINE FOR THE YEARS OF 2005 THRU 2011 MINE IS A 2011 ALSO, BUT THEY WILL NOT INCLUDE MY VIN #... AS DESCRIBED BY TOYOTA DEALER AND RECALL NOTICES, THIS ISSUE "COULD BREAK , PUNCTURE THE GAS TANK AND CAUSE A FIRE " . DEALER SAYS " UNSAFE CONDITION AS IF THE REMAINING PART OF SPRING BREAKS THE AXLE WILL NO LONGER BE SECURED UNDER THE VEHICLE" THIS TRUCK IS USED UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS W/NO HEAVY HAULING OR TOWING WHY IS IT NOT BEING RECALLED ? THIS IS NOT NORMAL , PUTTING MYSELF AND FAMILY IN HARMS WAY ? WHAT CHANGED DURING PRODUCTION AND ASSEMBLY THAT MY 2011 TACOMA WAS ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE BEHIND IT OR IN FRONT OF IT DURING PRODUCTION , SAME MODEL YEAR ? TOYOTA WILL NOT ANSWER THAT QUESTION , ONLY TO SAY " THAT VIN. # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL 4TH TOYOTA TRUCK IN A ROW DEALER SERVICED EVERY 5K MILES. AS RECOMMENDED NOW THIS IS CUSTOMER LOYALTY APPRECIATION. TOYOTA TELLS ME " NO FARTHER APPEAL PROCESS " ? IS THIS CORRECT ?
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS BUBBLING AGAIN AFTER RECALL AND REPLACEMENT. NOTICED IT YESTERDAY (8/15/18). THE TRUCK HAS 80,812 MILES AND THE RECALL NOTICE SAID WARRANTY ONLY GOOD UNTIL 5 YEARS OR 70,000 WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. SEEMS TO ME THEY PUT NEW BAD ONES IN WHEN THEY REPLACED THEM UNDER THE RECALL. NOT SURE EXACTLY WHEN THEY STARTED BUBBLING AGAIN.
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS CAUSED MY STEERING TO ALL OF A SUDDEN GO STIFF, I AM AT 97,000 MILES AND NOW IT HAS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN DRIVING IN MOTION ON A CURVE IT WAS LIKE I LOST POWER STEERING COMPLETELY AND WENT INTO MANUAL WORSE WHEN HAVING TO SLOW OR STOP AND START AGAIN ON A CORNER. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND NOT OK WHEN THERE IS ON COMING TRAFFIC ETC.
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

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (TOYOTA OF MELBOURNE, 24 N HARBOR CITY BLVD, MELBOURNE, FL 32935, 321-426-9420) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FRAME HAD RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WAS FINE FOR NOW, BUT WOULD BE AN ISSUE LATER. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1807201377. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING AN INSPECTION, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SPRING WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. JOHNSTONS TOYOTA (5021 NY-17M, NEW HAMPTON, NY 10958, (845) 374-8600) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THIS IS A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA. I BOUGHT MY 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA PRE RUNNER SPORT BRAND NEW. THIS IS A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA. I BOUGHT MY 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER SPORT BRAND NEW. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I NOTICED MY AMBER "DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS" WERE BECOMING DISCOLORED, IT HAD THE APPEARANCE OF THE BULB BECOMING HOT, MELTING AND DISCOLORING MY AMBER LENSES. AT THAT TIME IT WAS JUST STARTING TO TURN COLORS. LAST WEEK A MAN AT THE GAS STATION POINTED AT MY DRIVERS SIDE RUNNING LIGHT AND SAID I SHOULD HAVE THAT LOOKED AT BEFORE IT BURNS THROUGH OR CAUSES A FIRE. UPON HIS COMMENT I NOTICED IT HAD BECOME NOTICEABLY WORSE, TO THE POINT I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE RUNNING LIGHTS ON, YOU CAN NOT TURN THEM OFF DURING DAYTIME DRIVING, IT IS A SAFETY MATTER. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE REP IN TRACY, CA, TRACY TOYOTA, HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND GAVE ME THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE 800 NUMBER. TODAY I TALKED TO TWO EMPLOYEES WHO WERE SYMPATHETIC BUT ULTIMATELY SAID NOTHING CAN BE DONE BY THEM AND I WAS TOLD BY THEM A LETTER WAS MAILED OUT REGARDING THIS DEFECT, THE LETTER CONFIRMS IT AS A KNOWN DEFECT AND THE LETTER SHOWS TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED IT AS SUCH. MY WARRANTY HAS SINCE EXPIRED. I NEVER RECEIVED THE LETTER AND THEY REFUSE TO PAY TO REPAIR FOR THIS DEFECT. THIS PROBLEM STILL EXISTS FOR 2011 TOYOTA TACOMAS. I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT ASSEMBLIES, I AM REQUESTING TOYOTA TO REIMBURSE ME THE COST AS I WILL KEEP THE RECEIPT AND ASK FOR THE DAMAGED PARTS. THIS DEFECT DIMINISHES THE SAFETY FUNCTION OF A DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE AS WELL.
2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RUST HOLES IN FRAME. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR VEHICLES OF PREVIOUS YEARS. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE FRAME RECALL. *JS
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WORN OUT. VERY HARD TO TURN AND DOES NOT RECOVER FROM TURNING A CORNER (ACTS LIKE MANUAL STEERING).
MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME STIFF ON AND OFF AT REGULAR INTERVALS AT ANY SPEED. NO NOISE IS HEARD AND FLUID LEVEL AND QUALITY IS FINE. PROBLEM NOTED AT LOWER STEERING SHAFT UNIVERSAL DUE TO NEEDLE BEARING FAILURE. WATER/ RUST BUILD UP DEGRADING UNIVERSAL JOINT. TRUCK HAS ONLY 48 K ON IT AND I LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA AREA. I LOOKED INTO THIS ON VARIOUS INTERNET SITES AND FOUND IT TO BE RATHER COMMON BUT NO RECALL OR TSB ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
THE INNER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT/TURN SIGNAL LENS BECOMES DISTORTED AND BUBBLED WITH A BROWN, SCORCHED RESIDUE WHICH OBSCURES AND/OR DIMINISHES THE RUNNING LIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONS TO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. ADDITIONALLY, THE INNER LENS IS CRACKED AND/OR SEPARATED. TOYOTA DID OFFER A WARRANTY EXTENSION ON THIS DEFECT SO IT HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED AS A PROBLEM. THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION HAS SINCE EXPIRED ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS FOR THESE VEHICLES.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED TEMECULA VALLEY TOYOTA AT (951) 694-0575 (26631 YNEZ RD, TEMECULA, CA 92591) AND WAS INFORMED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT HAD EXPIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000. *TT *TR
MY 2011TACOMA HAS BROKEN REAR LEAF SPRINGS. THEY ARE LOCATED ABOVE THE AXLE IN DANGER OF PUCTURING GAS TANK. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED TACOMAS FROM THE YEARS 2005-11 FOR THIS EXACT REASON. TOYOTA TELLS ME I DON'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL, BUT THEY CAN GIVE NO REASON WHY I DON'T QUALIFY.
2011 TOYOTA TACOMA EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES CAUSED A LOSS OF FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES . THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT . I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY AN OPENING IN THE FRONT WHEEL WELL LINERS, EXPOSING THE PIGTAIL TUBING TO THE ELEMENTS . THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 65,000 ON IT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THE BRAKE LINES FAIL THIS SOON . THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS REFUSED TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE .
THE EXISTING "TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZH2 CERTAIN 2005 ' 2011 MODEL YEAR TACOMA COVERAGE FOR PROPELLER SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINTS" COVERS REPLACEMENT OF U JOINTS AND/OR SHAFTS DUE TO EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AND WEAR. MY VEHICLE, WHILE NOT COVERED BY THE SPECIFIC VIN SERIES, IS A 2011 TACOMA WHICH HAS ITS U JOINTS REPLACED RIGHT NOW AT A TOYOTA DEALER. REASON: EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AND WEAR CAUSING LOOSE AND WORN OUT U-JOINTS ACCORDING TO TOYOTA SHOP IN PALESTINE, TX. THE COST IS APPROX. $560. THE REP AT TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER WAS UNABLE TO HELP AND ONLY ADVISED TO RETAIN REPAIR RECEIPTS FOR FUTURE WIDENING OF PROGRAM, IF APPLICABLE.
MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS QUIT WORKING BECAUSE THEY GOT TOO HOT AND BURNED THE LENS AND BULB SOCKET. THIS CAUSED MY FRONT AND REAR RIGHT BLINKERS TO CEASE WORKING AND COULD HAVE HAD DISASTROUS RESULTS.
LEAF SPRING BROKEN REAR SUSPENSION NO RECALL NOTED FOR THIS PARTICULAR VIN OTHERS WERE AFFECTED

2011 TOYOTA TACOMA HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH VIBRATIONS AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 55. THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE BALANCE PROBLEM BUT HAVE BEEN THROUGH SEVERAL SETS OF TIRES AND REBALANCING AT THIS POINT AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. AND, I SEE THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED SUSPENSION VIBRATION PROBLEMS WITH A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. TOYOTA MUST INVESTIGATE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS WITH 2011 TACOMAS AND ISSUE A RECALL AND REPAIRS!! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR.
DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE TOO HOT. THE BULBS HAVE MELTED AND BUBBLED THE PLASTIC HOUSING. CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT A NOTICE WAS SENT OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. TOOK MY TRUCK TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT ANY ISSUE. TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS.
THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT HOUSING OVER THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS IS MELTING / BUBBLING. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES. TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE OR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD.
HORN STOPPED WORKING AT APPROXIMATELY 95000 MILES. SPOKE WITH TECHNICIAN AND WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WAS POSSIBLY RELATED TO THE AIRBAG.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD UNKNOWN NOISE COMING FRONT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAILURES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE MORE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE LOUDER THE NOISE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE LEAF SPRING WAS DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE RT 22 TOYOTA DEALER (LOCATED ON 109 US 22 HILLSIDE, NJ), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY LENS WERE DISTORTED AND BUBBLED ON BOTH SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA REPLACED THE HEADLIGHTS TWICE ON THE RIGHT & 1 ON THE LEFT. NOW THE ONE ON THE RIGHT IS DISTORTED AND BUBBLED AGAIN AND TOYOTA REFUSED TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE IT IS OUTSIDE THE 5 YEARS/70,000 MI WARRANTY. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AND A DEFECT FROM THE DESIGN. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PICTURE FOR REFERENCE.
LEAF SPRING HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY LIA TOYOTA DEALERSHIP'S SHOP IN COLONIE, NY AS BEING BROKEN. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA VEHICLES WITH OTHER VIN NUMBERS, BUT NOT MINE. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED TOYOTA, WHICH DENIED MY VEHICLE FOR THE RECALL, SO IT RECOMMENDS REPLACING BOTH LEAF SPRINGS AT MY EXPENSE ($2400). I FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL.
THE BULBS IN THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE MELTING THE LENSES.
THE RUNNING LIGHT LENS ON DRIVER'S SIDE IS FOGGED AND CRACKED. TOYOTA ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL AND SENT ME A LETTER THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE PART UP TO 5 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. I HAVE 65,000 MILES BUT MY TRUCK IS GREATER THAN 5 YEARS OLD, AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE PART AFTER I CONTACTED THEM. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER THIS WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN TO THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL.
REAR LEAF SPRING BROKE ON SUSPENSION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE DRIVER HEARD CLUNKING AND BANGING NOISES. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE MIDDLE LEAF IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRING FAILED AND WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALDERMAN'S TOYOTA (33 SEWARD RD, RUTLAND, VT 05701) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAF FAILED AND ALL FOUR LEAF SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COST.THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,500. UPDATED 08/24/17*LJ *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE EMITTED A LOUD NOISE AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUEVER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY STEERING BINDING IN MY 2011 TACOMA. I NOTICE THAT WHEN DRIVING IN STRAIGHT LINE I HAVE TO USE MORE THAN NORMAL FORCE TO ADJUST THE WHEEL TO STAY IN LANE. I ALSO NOTICE IT WHEN TURNING CORNERS, IT WILL BE MOVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN BIND UP AND IT TAKES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE TURN. THIS SEEMS LIKE A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND HAD THEM CHECK THE STEERING FLUID. THEY ENDED UP PERFORMING A STEERING FLUSH. I STILL HAD THE ISSUE AND I FOUND THAT THE LOWER U-JOINT IN THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS RUSTY AND BINDING UP. I SPRAYED IT WITH PENETRATING LUBE AND IT HAS FREED UP (FOR NOW). I WILL BE ORDERING A NEW ONE ASAP. I DO FEEL THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA BUT AT THIS TIME THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
HORN HAS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. WILL ONLY WORK WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED OR WHEN VEHICLE IS IN THE OFF POSITION.
I STARTED MY TACOMA IN PARK, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE I PUT IT INTO REVERSE, THE ENGINE AND THEN STARTED TO ACCELERATE VERY FAST, SPINNING THE TIRES, IT WAS ON ASPHALT WITH SOME SAND. I PRESSED DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP IT IN PLACE AND SHIFTED BACK TO PARK, AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE RPMS WENT BACK TO IDLE. WHEN I RETURNED TO REVERSE EVERYTHING WAS BEHAVING NORMALLY. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN MY HEATED GARAGE FOR A WEEK, I DROVE IT 3-4 MILES IN DRY SUNNY COLD WEATHER(32), SHUT IF OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. IN THE FIVE YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK THIS IS THE SECOND TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED. THE LAST TIME WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WHILE IN DIVE IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. BOTH CASES WERE QUITE ALARMING BUT FORTUNATELY DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE PRIOR INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND NHTSA.
DRIVING TO WORK THE SPARE TIRE UNDER MY TRUCK LET GO AND DRAGGED AND BROKE CABLE HOLDING IT THEN IT BOUNCED OUT FROM UNDER TRUCK AND ROLLED UP BESIDE ME IN OTHER LANE ROLLED TO SHOULDER AND KNOCKED A MAIL BOX OFF POST. ON A STRAIGHT AWAY IN TOWN LIGHT POT HOLES, TOLD DEALER HE TOLD ME TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON SAME TYPE OF SPARE TIRE CONNECTION BUT FOR A DIFFERENT VEHICLE.
[XXX] LIGHTNING/ELECTRICAL I WANT TO REPORT SAFETY ISSUES WITH MY TOYOTA TACOMA. WHEN I BOUGHT TACOMA IN SAN ANTONIO, BRAND NEW IN 2011, A FEW MONTHS LATER THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT (DRL) AND TURN SIGNAL LENS BECOME DISTORTED, BUBBLED, AND CRACKED. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH, AND IT WAS AN EXTREMELY COMMON ISSUE WITH MANY OWNERS COMPLAINTS. I TOLD MY DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS "NORMAL" AND I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN I WAS AT MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA IN DENVER TO GET THE OIL CHANGE, I INQUIRED ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE, AND THAT TOYOTA WILL FIX IT FOR FREE. I WAS TOLD THAT A LETTER WAS MAILED OUT TO EVERY PERSON THAT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A TIME LIMIT TO GET IT DONE AND IT ALREADY ALREADY PASSED. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA. IN ADDITION, MY TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN I DRIVE MY TRUCK, EVERY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND LIGHTS, INCLUDING FROM THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL WOULD SHUT DOWN AND INSTANTLY START BACK UP, AND MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOMENTARILY LOCK UP. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTER, AND THE LADY I SPOKE TO SAID THAT THERE WAS A TIME LIMIT WHEN I COULD GET IT FIXED, AND THAT IT HAS NOW EXPIRED. AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING SHE CAN DO ABOUT IT. I ONLY WANT TOYOTA TO FIX THIS ISSUE FREE OF CHARGE, BECAUSE I NEVER RECEIVED THAT LETTER THEY TOLD ME THEY SENT OUT, AND I DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY PUT A TIME LIMIT ON IT. IF TOYOTA REFUSES TO GET IT FIXED, I WANT TO PUT TOYOTA ON NOTICE THAT I WANT TO INITIATE ARBITRATION WITH TOYOTA. MANY TOYOTAS WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAGS BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY TRUCK WAS NOT. LAST YEAR MY HORN STARTED TO ACT UP AND SOMEONE AT THE TOYOTA REPAIR CENTER COMMENTED THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO THE AIRBAGS. JUST TO LOOK AT IT THERE IS A CHARGE OF OVER $100.00 TO REPAIR IT WOULD COST ME OVER $200.00 NOW MY HORN WORKS WHEN WHEN I PUSH THE PANIC BUTTON BUT NOT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I THOUGHT I READ THAT THERE WERE OTHER VEHICLES IN THE SAME YEAR THAT WERE RECALLED.
I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE STEERING ON MY 2011 TACOMA IS VERY OFTEN EXTREMELY STIFF TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION LAST YEAR. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. WAS TOLD: "LOWER SHAFT STARTING TO GET STIFF". WAS QUOTED A REPLACEMENT/REPAIR COST AROUND $550. COULD NOT AFFORD THAT AT THE TIME. THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN INTERMITTENT BUT NOW HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME I USE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO PAY TOYOTA TO FIX THIS. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE "STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NUMBER 2". IT SEEMS THIS PART IS EITHER DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON MANY AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITES WHICH SPECIFICALLY CITE THIS VEHICLE FOR A RANGE OF YEARS FROM 2005 ON. THERE IS NO PROTECTION AGAIN RUST AT ALL ON THIS PART. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. MY TRUCK IS 6YEARS AND A HALF OLD AND THE STEERING IS JAMMED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT' NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A MAJOR SECURITY FAILURE AND IT SHOULD HAVE A SECURITY RECALL ON THESE VEHICULES.

AFTER RECALL/ REPLACEMENT OF REAR LEAF SPRINGS, WITH NEW 5 LEAF UNITS, THE TRUCK SAGS UNDER LOAD, RIDES AS ROUGH W/O CARGO COMPARED TO PRIOR 3 LEAF (THICKER) SET. THE TRUCK WAS NOT 4 WHEEL ALIGNED TO SPEC AND TOYOTA IS NOT VERIFYING THIS DONE, THE DRIVELINE HAS TORSION WRAP OR JERKY-SHUDDER UPON FULL STOP NOW, AS IF DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS. THE TRUCK WITH SIDE WINDS AND GROVES IN THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS WORK AND WITH TWO DIFFERENT NEW SETS OF MICHELINS (CHANGED THE SAME DAY THE SUSPENSION WORK WAS DONE), SHIFTED OFF LANE VIOLENTLY. COSTCO LOCALLY SAYS I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TIRES SO SWITCHED ME TO HIGHER SPEED RATED ONES (BUT I DO NOT DRIVE AT HIGH SPEEDS, I DRIVE CONSERVATIVELY). A LOCALLY WELL REGARDED TIRE-ALIGNMENT SHOP RECHECKED THE ALIGNMENT AND FOUND IT WAS INCORRECT THOUGH MERCED TOYOTA INSISTS IT PASSED THEIR "GREEN" ZONE ON WHAT LOOKED TO BE OFF-CALIBRATED HUNTER MACHINE. FROM THE RESULTS OF THIS MACHINE, THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MECHANIC BOTH STATED MY TRUCK'S FRAME WAS DAMAGED (SO WHY BOTHER WITH ALIGNMENT?). THIS WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CHECKED BY A BODY REPAIR SHOP WITH PROPER EQUIPMENT TO BE FOUND TO BE WITHIN ONE DIME'S THICKNESS DIFFERENT FROM RAIL TO RAIL, I.E. NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER. TOYOTA WANTS ME TO RETURN TO THIS FAULTY DEALERSHIP EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TWO OTHERS W/ IN 60 MILES FROM MERCED CA. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE, REFUSES TO PAY FOR VERIFYING THE DEALERSHIP'S ISSUES. I SUSPECT THE SPRING SET USED IN THIS RECALL DOES NOT MATCH MY VERSION OF TRUCK, A TRD SPORT ACCESS CAB WHICH IS 300 LBS MORE CAPABLE IN SPRINGING IF THE CHARTS ARE CORRECT. ALL COMBINED, THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT SOLVED AND THE RIDE HAS BECOME DANGEROUS, ONE I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT, ONE THAT FOLLOWS THE RUTS IN THE ROAD AND IS MUCH MUCH MORE DANGEROUSLY SENSITIVE TO SIDE WIND GUSTS ON THE FREEWAYS + LESS LOAD CAPACITY.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON IN COLD TEMPERATURES THE RADIO TURNS OFF AND SHOWS A ERROR MESSAGE EVERY NOW AND THEN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE DOES IT, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON, THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED THEN BUT IT IS DOING IT AGAIN.
HORN STOPPED WORKING AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM, I DISCOVERED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SPIRAL CABLE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER THE HORN STOPPED WORKING, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLLED PHONE FUNCTION BEGAN AUTO-ACTIVATING INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE WORDS "TALKING" APPEARING ON THE RADIO DISPLAY (THIS FUNCTION IS ALSO RELATED TO THE SPIRAL CABLE). I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY SOON BECOME INOPERABLE IF THE AIR BAG ELECTRICAL CONTACTS ON THE SPIRAL CABLE FAIL. WHILE MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, I UNDERSTAND THAT TOYOTA DID FILE A PART 573 DEFECT INFORMATION REPORT WITH NHTSA FOR SELECTED 2009-2010 TACOMA VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE HORN IS CONSIDERED A SAFETY DEVICE, AND AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE, MY VEHICLE HORN BECAME INOPERABLE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT FUNCTION AS DESIGNED WHEN THE SPIRAL CABLE CONTACTS FOR THE AIR BAG FAIL. I WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS TYPE OF SAFETY CRITICAL DEVICE BE DESIGNED TO LAST FOR THE USEFUL SERVICE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FAILURE AFTER LESS THAN 6 YEARS (AND 48,000 MILES) IS MUCH SOONER THAN SHOULD BE EXPECTED FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. IT'S BEEN ABOUT 8 MONTHS SINCE I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED OF THEIR RECALL E02 ON THE REAR SPRINGS. I WAS CALLED IN FOR AN INSPECTION TODAY (6/21/2016) AND TOLD THE REAR SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE PARTS WOULD BE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TRUCK WOULD BE FIXED. WHY DOES YOUR AGENCY ALLOW SAFETY RECALLS TO DRAG OUT FOR MONTHS? WHY ARE THERE NO PENALTIES ON THE MANUFACTURERS TO GIVE THEM AN INCENTIVE TO FINISH A SAFETY RECALL IN A TIMELY FASHION?
LEAF SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN TWICE. FIRST TIME IN 2013 AND CURRENT. TOYOTA SAYS MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL. MY TRUCK SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS IT HAS THE SAME SAFETY CONCERN AS THE ONES BEING RECALLED.
