HEADLIGHTS ARE FORMING CRACKS IN LENSES, AND THEY ARE GROWING.
MY HORN STOPPED WORKING AND MY AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS AN SPRIAL CABLE PROBLEM IN THE STERRING WHEEL COLUM. WAS TOLD TO CHECK ONRECALLS FOR THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE TRUCK.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATED VIOLENTLY AND THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BOLT JOINTS HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA OVER 2 YEARS AGO REGARDING REPLACEMENT OF REAR SPRINGS, HOWEVER TO THIS DATE NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE REGARDING THIS RECALL. VERY DISTURBING THAT NO ACTION HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN. HOWEVER, I AM NOT HAVING ANY VISABLE OR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS THAT I CAN DETECT.
MY 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA HAS APPARENTLY HAS HAD A DESIGN FLAW SINCE EVEN BEFORE 2009 IN THE FRONT TURN SIGNAL HOUSING. THE DESIGN FLAW CAUSES THE LENSE TO MELT FROM EXTREME HEAT BUILD UP IN THE HOUSING CAUSING THE BULB TO BURN OUT AND ULTIMATELY THE SOCKET TO CHAR AND IN MY CASE DEFORM TO THE POINT I COULDN'T REPLACE THE BULB. TOYOTA HAS IN SEPTEMBER 2011 RELEASED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN INSTRUCTING THERE TECHS ON HOW TO REMEDIATE THE OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THERE WAS NO NOTICES SENT OUT TO OWNERS EVEN THOUGH THEY APPARENTLY KNEW BEFORE THEY EVEN BUILT THE 2011 TRUCKS THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. TO DO THIS AND NOT MAKE US AWARE IS CRIMINAL TO SAY THE LEAST BECAUSE IN THE CAB IT IS TELLING YOU THAT IT IS WORKING AND YOUR NOT AWARE THAT YOUR FRONT SIGNAL IS NOT WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $500. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MUCH CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CHECKED BEHIND THE FIREWALL AND THE WIRING HARNESS AND WIRING WERE BURNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS WERE MELTING ALONG WITH THE FIXTURES AND WIRES IN THE BACK OF THE BULB. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT'S DIAGNOSIS WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TOYOTA HAS A RECALL ON 2005 TO 2011 TACOMA'S FOR REAR LEAF SPRINGS RUSTING OUT AND BREAKING. WHEN I CHECKED WITH THEM THEY SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOW CAN THAT BE. I HAVE A 2011 TACOMA AND MY REAR LEAF SPRINGS ARE RUSTED AND NOW HAVE BROKEN. ONLY 51000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. WHAT DOES MY VIN NUMBER HAVE TO DO WITH WHAT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM IS. THEY HAVE STATED THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RUST AND BREAKAGE OF REAR LEAF SPRINGS THAT COULD CAUSE THE BROKEN PIECE OF SPRING HITTING THE GAS TANK. I FEEL BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS IN THE DATE SPECIFIED IT SHOULD BE COVERED. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HERE.
2011 TOYOTA TACOMA EXPERIENCES SPARK KNOCK (DETONATION). SAME SYMTOMS AS IN T-SB-0044-14. ALSO, THE 2011 ENGINE IS THE SAME ENGINE THAT IS IN THE 2012 VEHICLE COVERED BY T-SB-0044-14. SO WHY IS THE 2011 MODEL NOT COVERED BY T-SB-0044-14? I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE PROGRAM AT THE LOCAL DEALER IN JANUARY 2014.
A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE LEAF SPRINGS FOR THIS VEHICLE WAS ISSUED ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2014. THE WEBSITE SHOWS BEING UPDATED AS OF MAY 29, 2015 AND LISTS THE RECALL AS INCOMPLETE. TOYOTA HAS NOT YET FORMULATED A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE DUE TO THIS DEFECT WHILE TOYOTA DRAGS THEIR FEET COMING UP WITH A FIX. TOYOTA SHOULD BE PRESSED FOR A SOLUTION NOW.
THE RUNNING LIGHTS AREA DEVELOPED CRACKS AND A ROUND SHAPE CLOUDY AREA IN FRONT OF THE LIGHT BULB LIKE IT MELTING THE PLASTIC. *TR
I WAS PARKED AT A TRAILHEAD, AT ABOUT 3500' ELEVATION. AFTER THE HIKE, AS I MANEUVERED THE TRUCK AROUND THE PARKING LOT, I REALIZED THAT I HAD LITTLE OR NO BRAKING ABILITY!! I SLOWLY DROVE AROUND TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY FLUID ON THE GROUND WHERE THE TRUCK HAD BEEN, AND THERE WAS NO FLUID ON THE GROUND. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING INDICATED ANY TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, I DISCOVERED, AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME, THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK WITH THEM. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION AND REPAIR. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. THE REPLACEMENT MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER ALSO FAILED!! (DURING TESTING, NOT WHILE DRIVING.) THE THIRD MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS PUT IN, AND SEEMS TO BE FINE NOW. DESPITE DETAILED CORRESPONDENCE TO THEM, TOYOTA CORPORATE FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, AND REFUSED TO DISCUSS COMPENSATION. THEY ALSO DID NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT OUR CORRESPONDENCE. FORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF US.
PURCHASED NEW TOYOTA TACOMA 2011 FROM LOCAL DEALER. PROBLEM IS WITH DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS GETTING TOO HOT AND BURNING AND CRACKING LENS. CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THEY SENT OUT WARRANTY POLICY BULLETIN (POL14-03) , BUT I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE. THEY ALSO SAY BOTH WARRANTIES THEY CREATED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, HAVE EXPIRED, AND WILL NOT PAY FOR REPAIRS. I AM WORRIED THEY MAY START A FIRE BECAUSE OF THE OVERHEATING.
MY HORN DOES NOT WORK WHEN I PRESS ON THE STEERING WHEEL UNLESS I TURN THE WHEELS TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT THEN IT WILL WORK. I TOOK IN MY TRUCK TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO CHARGE ME $130 TO LOOK AT IT. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I AM DRIVING AND SOMETHING HAPPENS AND I HAVE TO BEEP SOMEONE I CANNOT DO THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW. I AM WRITING ABOUT A SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM I HAD WITH MY 2011 4X4 TACOMA. ON JANUARY 6TH, I WAS RETURNING FROM AN APPOINTMENT. I LEFT THE PARKING LOT GOING ABOUT 10-20MPH, I DROVE 1/10TH OF A MILE DOWN THE ACCESS ROAD WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE AT THE INTERSECTION. AS SOON AS I TOUCHED THE BRAKE THE ENGINE DRAMATICALLY INCREASED ITS SPEED AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL HIGHLY REV'D AND I COULD FEEL THE TRUCK TRYING TO ACCELERATE. AS SOON AS I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE REVS WENT BACK TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED AND THE TRUCK STOPPED TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD. OTHER DETAILS ARE THAT THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS BETWEEN 10-20F, ROADS WERE CLEAR AND DRY AND THE TRUCK WAS IN 2WD. AFTER I CHECKED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, IT WAS FREE AND CLEAR OF ANY OBSTRUCTION THAT COULD HAVE MADE IT STICK. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW IN OCT 2011 AND CURRENTLY HAD ABOUT 24K MILES ON IT. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 5 MILES TO THE APPOINTMENT, SAT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE THE RETURN TRIP HOME. IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. BEING AWARE OF THE PRIOR SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS IN THE NEWS WITH TOYOTAS THIS SEEMS TO BE A CASE WHERE IT HAS OCCURRED ON A 2011 MODEL. AFTER NEARLY TWO YEARS, THE RECALL IS INCOMPLETE AND I'M BEGINNING TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS IN GENERAL. TWO YEARS IS ABSURD! I NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR SHOCKS AS WELL BUT DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT POSSIBLY MESS UP THE RECALL FIX, IF IT'S .EVER COMPLETED.THE DEFECT FROM THAT CAUSED THE SPRINGS, I BELIEVE, IS ALSO CAUSING THE REAR SPRINGS TO FAIL OVERALL.
MY TRUCK RECENTLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS TURNING ON. I NOTICED IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS HALF-FULL OR JUST BELOW HALF. THE TRUCK FINALLY STARTS AFTER 4 OR 5 ATTEMPTS AND RUNS FINE FOR THE MOST PART. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING IT KICKS A LITTLE, LIKE IT LOSES A LITTLE BIT OF POWER BUT QUICKLY REGAINS IT. WHEN THE TANK IS FULL IT STARTS WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE THAT IT IS MORE THAN LIKELY FUEL RELATED, SPECIFICALLY THE FUEL PUMP. THE TRUCK IS JUST A LITTLE OVER 40K MILES AND ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, THE FUEL PUMP, IF THAT IS THE CASE, SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 100K BEFORE MALFUNCTIONING. I FEEL THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM TO START HAVING WITH A TRUCK THAT IS STILL FAIRLY NEW, AND IT IS NOT CHEAP TO REPLACE. I AM ASKING TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS A POSSIBLE MANUFACTURER DEFECT. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAS 2 FRONT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. THE LIGHTS IN THIS AREA ARE OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE LIGHTING CASE TO HAVE A "BUBBLE" IN THE BULB CASING. THIS IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER HEADLAMPS. THIS IS CAUSED WHEN AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON AND WHEN PARKED OR DRIVING. *TR

VERY STIFF STEERING, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. LOOKED UP SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE. FROM WHAT I READ, IT APPEARS TO BE POSSIBLE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. FROM THE DESCRIPTIONS I'VE READ, IT'S A POOR DESIGN. MAYBE NEEDS SOME PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS. LIKE A RUBBER BOOT TO PROTECT IT FROM THE ELEMENTS. JUST VERY STIFF STEERING AND DIFFICULT TO STEER.

MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULBS ARE BEGINNING TO MELT THE LENSES. THE DRL ARE A SAFETY ITEM AND TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS. I FEEL AS THE TRUCK AGES THE DRL WILL CONTINUE TO MELT AND WILL NOT BE AS VISIBLE TO OTHER DRIVERS. ALSO IF THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES BUILD UP ENOUGH HEAT IT COULD POSE A FIRE RISK. *TR
TAKATA RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE HORN STOPPED WORKING SO I TOOK THE CAR INTO A TOYOTA CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY SAID THIS WAS CAUSED BY SPIRAL CABLE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THEM WITH THE TOYOTA TACOMA, BUT NOT COVERED BY A RECALL YET. GIVEN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT - AND RESULTS IN A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING AIR BAG FAILURE, THE AIR BAGS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITHOUT COST TO THE OWNERS. THE PROBLEM DEVELOPED OVER MANY MONTHS AS THE HORN BECAME INCREASINGLY INTERMITTENT UNTIL IT COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING.
WHILE PULLING MY TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE, I APPLIED THE BRAKE. I WAS SLOWING DOWN AND HEARD THE ACCELERATION TRACTION CONTROL TURN ON AND MY TRUCK LUNGED FORWARD ABOUT ONE TO TWO FEET. THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK HIT AGAINST SOME ITEMS IN MY GARAGE AND BROKE MY HEADLIGHT HOUSING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SCRATCHED MY BUMPER. *TR
THE SPIRAL CABLE FAILED. THE SPIRAL CABLE CONNECTS THE HORN BUTTON AND DRIVER'S AIRBAG TO THE REST OF THE CAR. WHEN IT FAILS, THE AIRBAG AND HORN WON'T WORK. TOYOTA ALREADY RECALLED THE SPIRAL CABLE ON '05-'09 TACOMA'S. THE SPIRAL CABLES ARE STILL FAILING, SO THEY NEED TO RECALL LATER YEARS AND FIX THEM TOO. *TR
TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALER FOR OTHER WORK. WAS TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT TECHNICIAN FOUND MY HEADLIGHTS TO BE MELTING. SERVICE ADVISOR SHOWED ME PROBLEM AND SAID IT WAS DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS. THEY WERE CRACKED AND BURNED AS WAS THE ASSEMBLY. I WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $1300 TO REPLACE THEM. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 1/2 YEARS. THIS IS A HAZARD AND A DANGER AND THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED BY TOYOTA AT THEIR COST. *TR
NOTED DURING WASH THAT THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE A QUARTER SIZE MELTED SPOT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE BULB AND ONE LENS HAS CRACKED APPARENTLY FROM HEAT AND THE NEAR PROXIMITY OF THE BULB TO LENS. POTENTIAL MAY EXIST WHERE THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. IT APPEARS THAT NO RECALL IS BEING PROCESSED TO ADDRESS THIS MANUFACTURER ISSUE AND MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM FORM THE 2008/9 YEAR THROUGH 2011. TOYOTA MAY HAVE CORRECTED THE ISSUE IN 2012/13 YEAR TIME FRAME YET THEY STILL HAVE MANY VEHICLES OPERATING WITH THE THREATENING PROBLEM WHICH COULD IMPACT LIVES. *TR
FIRST EXPERIENCED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE UNDER ACCELERATION IN 4TH GEAR ABOUT 240 MILES INTO A 300 MILE TRIP ON 12/16. AGAIN LATER THE SAME DAY I EXPERIENCED MORE SEVERE CLUTCH SLIPPAGE IN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR WHILE TRYING TO MERGE ONTO I-95 AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A WASTE TRUCK DUE TO LACK OF ACCELERATION (SLIPPAGE). 20 MILES LATER I EXPERIENCED PRONOUNCED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE AT 50-55 MPH IN 5TH GEAR DURING ACCELERATION. NEXT DAY, 12/17 I EXPERIENCED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE IN 4TH AND 5TH GEAR 20 MILES INTO MY TRIP TO WORK ON I-95. WEDNESDAY 12/18 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO CHAMPION TOYOTA IN PHILADELPHIA PA, EXPLAINED THE SYMPTOMS AND THE SCENARIO IN WHICH IT OCCURRED WHICH IS AFTER TRUCK IS RUN FOR 20 MILES AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TOYOTA TECH ALLEGEDLY DROVE THE TRUCK ALONE AROUND A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD FOR 5 MILES AND ABOUT 3 MILES WITH MYSELF ON BOARD AND DRIVING. NO SLIPPAGE WAS FOUND ACCORDING TO TOYOTA TECH. I NOTICED THE A SLIGHT SLIP IN 3RD GEAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING, ALTHOUGH THE TECH DISAGREED. SERVICE WRITER STATED IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, TO LEAVE THE TRUCK OVERNIGHT AND A TECH OR SERVICE MANAGER WOULD TAKE IT HOME. I WILL CONSTANTLY MONITOR THIS (WHAT I CONSIDER) A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO NOTE THAT THERE IS A TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING DEFECTIVE MEXICAN MADE CLUTCHES INSTALLED IN SOME 2006-2011 TOYOTA TACOMA 5 SPEED TRUCKS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO NOTE THAT I AM HAVE BEEN AN AUTO MECHANIC FOR OVER 35 YEARS. *TR

HAVE NOTICED THIS ISSUE EVER SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW, BUT IT WAS MOST OBVIOUS ON THE FIRST LONG MOUNTAINOUS ROAD TRIP THIS WEEK: WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED WHEN BEGINNING UP STEEP INCLINES, THE CRUISE CONTROL GUNS THE ENGINE, PUSHING THE VEHICLE TO SPEEDS NEARLY 5MPH OVER THE CRUISE CONTROL SET SPEED. WAS TRAVELING INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, SO BY "STEEP" I MEAN NOTHING MORE THAN INTERSTATE STANDARDS. IT IS AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN SPEED AND DANGEROUS TO THE POINT THAT I EVENTUALLY STARTED DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL GOING UP INCLINES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAD LAMPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE FAILURE HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
LETTER FROM SENATOR MARTIN HEINRICH RE CONSTITUENT REGARDING SAFETY OF HIS 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA (REPLY TO NEW MEXICO OFFICE). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE, AND AT THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH THE VEHICLE WOULD PROCEED WITH FULL SPEED. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE CORRECTED.

THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND SUDDENLY BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, WHO ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS UNKNOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,500.
