LATE SPRING OR EARLY SUMMER OF LAST YEAR I HAD BEEN DRIVING MY FAMILY HOME FROM THE GRANDPARENTS. WE FELT A SOUND LOUDER AND PROBLEM WORSE THAN A POT HOLE. IT WAS A NORMAL ROAD PAVED. IT WAS IN WEBSTER, MA. THE TRUCK SEEMED TO BE FINE UNTIL LATE JUNE THE TRUCK STARTED TO LEAK POWER STEERING FLUID. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (TRI-STATE TOYOTA SCION AND DODGE). I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LADY. SHE TOLD ME ABOUT THE RUST PROBLEM THEY HAD WITH BOTH THE TACOMA'S AND TUNDRA'S AND SAID THE WOULD CHECK MY TRUCK OUT FOR FRAME CORROSION. WITHOUT SHOWING ME THEY SAID THERE WAS NONE. THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND WAS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT. IT THEN GOT INSPECTED BY AN AUTOBODY SPECIALIST. PRECISION AUTO REPAIR LOOK AT IT AND SAID THE FRAME IS JUNK JUST LIKE THE TACOMA'S. I ASK JIM AUDETT THE OWNER FOR A PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE SO I COULD SEND TO TOYOTA. THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD BROKEN AWAY FROM THE FRAME AND CHUNK'S OF THE FRAME (METAL ARE FALLING OFF THIS TRUCK). THE INTEGRITY OF THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED BY THE CORROSION AND IS NOT A ROAD WORTHY VEHICLE. I SPENT $19,000 FOR THIS TRUCK IN EARLY JANUARY 2007 ABOUT 14 MOTHS BEFORE TOYOTA DID THE RECALL ON THE TACOMA'S. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND BY THE DEALER AND TOYOTA FOR ALMOST A YEAR. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY TAKEN AND SENT TO ATTORNEY GENERALS OF BOTH MASSACHUSETTS AND CONNECTICUT TO INFORM THEM OF THIS POTENTIAL ROAD HAZARD TO ALL. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF YOUR AGENCY COULD LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE TOYOTA IS RELUCTANT TO STAND BEHIND THIS POOR QUALITY VEHICLE. THEY HAVE DENIED THERE WAS ANY CORROSION. LOCAL MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RUST ON FRAME, WHICH IF NOT FIXED WOULD NOT PASS 09 INSPECITON. METAL SHEARING OFF IN LARGE SHEETS. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND IT HAS EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION ON THE FRAME OF VEHICLE. BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAS NO RUST. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED, IN OTHERWISE GREAT SHAPE. LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER INDICATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AND TO CONTACT TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS. CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THE PROBLEM (4/08) AND RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT MY CORROSION WARRANTY RAN OUT 9/05 AND THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THEY INDICATED THEY LOGGED THE INCIDENT AND THAT WAS IT. CONCERN IS THAT VARIOUS IMPORTANT POINTS OF FRAME STRUCTURE ARE RUSTING VERY BAD. I.E. LEAF SPRING SUPPORTS, BODY MOUNTS. THIS IS MY NEWEST VEHICLE AND BY FAR HAS THE WORST RUST. AFTER TOYOTA INDICATED THEY COULD NOT HELP ME I DID TRY TO PAINT AND COAT THE FRAME FOR PROTECTION. THIS DID NOT HELP AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AT THE SAME RATE WITH LITTLE EVIDENCE ANYTHING HAS EVER BEEN DONE TO STOP THE ISSUE. *TR UPDATED IVOQ 11/03/1
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP AT LESS THAN 5 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. HE MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AND WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE FRAME SHOULD NOT BE RUSTED OUT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS ONLY EIGHT YEARS OLD. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 135,000.
WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES ON MY TUNDRA, THE ENTIRE TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED AND THE SHAKING CONTINUES. I WAS TOLD BY MY REPAIRMAN THAT TOYOTA KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL HOWEVER, WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MY TRUCK HAS 82,000 MILES NOW AND FAR OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD PAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY ARE AWARE OF IT. *TR
VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE RUST UNDER MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. IT WAS INSPECTED FOR THE INITIAL BED RUST IN JAN 08 BY MY LOCAL DEALER AFTER A LOCAL REPUTABLE BODY SHOP AGREED WITH ME THAT THINGS WERE NOT RIGHT UNDERNEATH. DEALER REP DISMISSED MY CONCERNS AND DID NOTHING. NOW I'M READING ABOUT THESE THINGS FALLING APART. THE BELOW INCIDENT DATE IS THE DATE OF THE INSPECTION. I INTEND TO HAVE ANOTHER INSPECTION BY THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE RUST CORROSION. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS NOT SUITABLE FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE FRAME. MY TOYOTA TUNDRA'S PLANETARY GEAR EXPLODED WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION AND DISABLE THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN OTHERWISE PERFECT CONDITION. IT LEFT ME STRAND ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHOUT ANY PRE-NOTICE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS HAVING ANY ISSUES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE HAS CORRODED. THE CORROSION CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A BUS. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA BUT HAS BEEN IN MICHIGAN FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 143,758. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR A SAFETY INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT I HAD RUST ON THE FRAME AND THAT IF IT GOT MUCH WORSE IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. *TR
I HAVE HAD ONE OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED WITHIN THE PAST YEAR AT AN EXPENSE OF OVER $400. I NOW HAVE ANOTHER OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE AND NOTE THAT MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME MANUFACTURER DEFECT. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 52,000 MILES BUT IT IS BEYOND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD GRANTED BY TOYOTA. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL ALL 2000 TUNDRAS AND FIX THEM RATHER THAN EXTEND A WARRANTY. *TR
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA SEVERE FRAME CORROSION THAT LEAVES RUST STAINS ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. WE NEED TO ADMIT THAT THE PLATING PROCESS FOR THESE FRAMES WAS DEFICIENT. *TR

AS OF OCTOBER 9, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED PREMATURELY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 108,000. UPDATED 10/24/07.*JB
I HAVE A 200 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH HAS ROTTED. HERE IS THE LIST OF WHAT M Y LOCAL GARAGE HAS REPLACED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. STEERING BOX ROTTED OUT, BRAKELINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE, O2 CENSOR, GAS TANK FELL OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT, FRONT SIC ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2000. (LITTLE EXCESSIVE?) EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE ROTTED OFF, SHICKS ROTTED OFF AFTER FOUR YEARS, EXHAUST SYSTEM REPLACED 3 TIMES, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I NOW HAVE A BROKEN LEAF SPRING. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY SAY TOYOTA HAS NO INTENTION OF DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS DANGEROUS! THIS ALL STARTED TWO YEARS AGO AND THE BROKEN LEAF SPRING IS THE LAST STRAW. TOYOTA NEEDS TO MAKE GOOD ON THIS EXPENSIVE PIECE OF GARBAGE BEFORE I GET KILLED DRIVING IT. IT IS MY ONLY VEHICLE. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD FAILURE; CRACKS IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAUSING FORCED EXHAUST EMISSIONS INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE CARBON EMISSIONS COATING THE INTERIOR OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THUS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH CAN RESULT IN DEATH; ALSO EXHAUST FUMES CAN MAKE THEIR WAY INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AND THUS CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS AND RESULT IN ACCIDENTS AND POTENTIAL DEATH. I HAVE EXTREME RUSTING PROBLEMS ON FRAME RAILS AND SPRING SHACKLES OVER REAR AXLE ON MY 2000 TUNDRA. I HAVE LARGE CHUNKS 2"' X 3" FLAKING OFF THE RAILS AND THE SHACKLES ARE NOW VERY THIN. I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT MUCH LONGER. *TR
I BROUGHT MY TUNDRA IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE ONLY TO DISCOVER ALL THE GREASE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE RUBBER BOOTS COVERING THE AXLES ENDS HAS COMES OUT. THE RUBBER BOOTS HAD NOT FAILED AND THE CLAMPS WERE STILL INTACT. THE GREASE HAD MADE IT WAY PAST THE CLAMP. I HAD TO HAVE BOTH FRONT AXLES REPLACED AT 73,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 50 MPH, WITH NO WARNING THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION CAME APART. THE TIRE FOLDED UNDERNEATH AND THE TRUCK SKIDDED TO A STOP. FORTUNATELY WE WERE ON A 2 LANE MACADAM ROAD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS RIGHT HAND SIDE, RIGHT HAND DRIVE SHAFT, AND INNER AND OUT TIE-ROD ENDS AND A NEW TIRE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND WOBBLES WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT FEELS AS IF THE WHEELS ARE COMING OFF OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE IS THE WARPING OF THE ROTORS WHEN THEY BECOME OVERHEATED. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY OFFERED HIM $200 TOWARD THE BRAKE REPAIR. THE COST TO REPLACE THE ROTORS, BRAKE LINES, AND CALIBERS IS $2,000. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR A MONTH. AT 60,000 MILES, THE MECHANIC TURNED THE ROTORS AND STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. TOYOTA HAS THE KIT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 77,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 09/05/07
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SHIFT SOLENOID COULD BE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE OVERDRIVE GEAR CLUSTER WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AS OF JUNE 27, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 145,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED IN 2007, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTING SEVERELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT GREENSBURG TOYOTA, GREENSBURG, PA. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD BRAKE LINES REPLACED, FUEL LINES REPLACED, THE FRAME CORRODED AND RUSTED OUT, FUEL LINES RUSTED OUT, THE TIE RODS RUSTED OUT, THE TAILGATE RUSTED OUT, THE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS FOR THE BACKUP AND TAIL LIGHTS WERE SHORTING OUT, THE ENTIRE BODY ON THIS VEHICLE IS RUSTING. THIS VEHICLE IS A COMPLETE MENACE TO THE TOYOTA COMPANY. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE FRONT AXLES RUSTED OUT AND THE WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING IT.
THE FRAME OF MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE RUNNING BOARD (BAR) CORRODED AND FELL OFF 2 YEARS AGO, AND THE FRAME WAS RUSTED ENOUGH TO MAKE REPLACEMENT UNFEASIBLE. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 56,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BANG FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE REAR AXLE WAS FRACTURED AND THE AXLE WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN UNKNOWN LEAK COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SEALS TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN EIGHT MONTHS. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE BRAKE SEALS AND SHOES. WITHIN ONE YEAR, WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE HIMSELF TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
WE HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA ,AND THE COMPLAINT IS RUST, FIRST MY BUMPERS WENT .,THE REAR BUMPER GOT SO RUSTED THAT MY DAUGHTER SAT ON THE BUMPER AND SHE FELL TO THE GROUND., I CALLED TOYOTA ,THE SAID CALL MY LOCAL DEALER.,I DID., MY LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT ,THEY SAID IT WASN'T THERE PROBLEM . SO AT THIS POINT I NEVER REPLACED THE BUMPER BECAUSE TOYOTA WANTED 400.00 WITHOUT PUTTING THE BUMPER ON AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THAT. ANYWAY WHO SAYS A NEW TOYOTA BUMPER WOULD BE NO GOOD ANY WAYS! SECOND AND MOST IMPORTANT IS THE FRAME YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR..... I TRIED TO APPLY AN UNDERCOAT TO THE FRAME AND THEN THE NEXT YEAR NO MATTER HOW MUCH UNDER COATING I PUT ON THE FRAME IT GETS LIKE A 100 TIMES WORSE I THINK THE RUST BEHIND THE UNDER COATING JUST BREAKS APART AND JUST FALLS OFF AS I DRIVE BECAUSE THE YEAR AFTER THE RUST IS 100 TIMES WORSE!!!! IF YOU WOULD PLEASE ., LOOK INTO THIS ASAP BECAUSE IM REALLY SCARED TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK, AND I DON'T WANT TO SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE I WOULD BE AFRAID FOR THEM AND FEEL TERRIBLE IF SOMETHING DANGEROUS HAPPENED TO US OR THEM, PLEASE HELP! THE FRAME ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS JUST AS RUSTY AS ALOT OF THE TACOMAS BEING BOUGHT BACK BY TOYOTA. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD ADD THE TUNDRAS TO THEIR INSPECTION LIST. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 EXTENDED CAB. THE FRAME IS IN TERRIBLE CONDITION DUE TO LARGE CHUNKS OF RUST FALLING OFF IT AND SPRINGS ARE RUSTING IN THE SAME MANNER WHICH LEAVES ME FEARFUL FOR MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGERS SAFETY. FAILURE OF FRAME IN 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. FIRST NOTICED LARGE AMOUNTS OF METAL FLAKING OFF IN EARLY 2007. NOTIFIED TOYOTA AND THEY DID NOTHING. SPARE TIRE FELL OFF BOTTOM OF TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. NOTICED A CRACK IN THE FRAME AND TOOK IT TO BE WELDED, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY SPARE TIRE CROSSMEMBER COULD COME OFF IN ITS ENTIRETY, THAT TWO OF MY CAB MOUNTS WERE NO LONGER INTACT AND THAT THE OTHERS WERE HANGING BY A THREAD, AND THAT THE FRAME COULD NOT BE WELDED IN A WAY THAT WOULD BE SAFE FOR USE, AS THERE WERE PORTIONS WITHOUT ENOUGH METAL REMAINING TO WELD TO. NOTIFIED TOYOTA AGAIN (FEB 2009) AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO PROGRAM IN PLACE FOR THE TUNDRA. PROBLEMS BEGAN IN 2007. ROT ONGOING. TRUCK IS A TOTAL HAZARD BECAUSE OF THE FRAME, AND (USELESSLY ENOUGH) UTTERLY FUNCTIONAL IN EVERY OTHER WAY. DRIVING 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN NORTHERN WYOMING 1 WEEK AGO DURING FREEZING TEMPS. ENGINE SHUT DOWN SHORTLY AFTER STARTING IN THE MORNING LEAVING DRIVER WITH NO POWER TO MANEUVER IN TRAFFIC. VEHICLE SITS IN TRAFFIC UNTIL IDLE SPEED WILL MOVE VEHICLE OUT OF WAY OF OTHER CARS. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN VEHICLE SITS OUT ALL NIGHT IN FREEZING COLD WEATHER. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER EACH TIME AND WE ARE TOLD THIS HAPPENS ON THIS V-8 ENGINE FOR TUNDRA AND LAND CRUISER MFG 1999. DEALER HAS OTHER VEHICLES IN FOR REPAIR AT THIS TIME AND SAYS HE REPLACES SEVERAL EACH YEAR. DEALER SAYS INTAKE MANIFOLD MUST BE REPLACED WITH CORRECTED MANIFOLD. DEALER BELIEVES THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT ATTACHED TO THE MANIFOLD. COST IS TO BE APPROX $1400. DEALER SAYS TO TAKE UP PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA CORP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SHIFT LEVER DISINTEGRATED OFF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE A BRACKET TO FIX THE SHIFT LEVER. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT THE DEALER AWAITING THE REPAIR WORK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE SHIFTER SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN GEAR. UPDATED 12/18/06. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR BEGAN IN SUMMER OF 2005. HE STARTED THE VEHICLE STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. HE THEN DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK LUNGED FORWARD. ONLY BY CAREFULLY PUMPING THE GAS PEDAL UP AND DOWN WAS HE ABLE TO ATTAIN APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. WITHIN IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, HE FOUND SOMEONE ELSE WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. IT WAS CAUSED BY A LOOSE CONNECTION WHERE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WIRE CONNECTS TO ITS FEMALE CONNECTOR. WHICH WAS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER LOOKED AT THE CONNECTOR AND IT SEEMED CONNECTED. HE PUSHED THE CONNECTOR DOWN HARD AND TO HIS ASTONISHMENT IT CLICKED INTO PLACE. WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED TWO YEARS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF AGAIN. ONCE HE ARRIVED HOME, HE CLICKED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR SECURELY IN PLACE. HE USED SOME COPPER ELECTRICAL WIRE AND WIRED THE CONNECTOR FIRMLY IN PLACE. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS BEST GUESS TO THE PROBLEM WITH THE CONNECTOR: WAS THE DESIGN OF THE PLASTIC WAS FAULTY. THE PLASTIC TAB WASN'T LARGE ENOUGH TO HOLD IT SECURELY IN THE SOCKET AND OVER TIME, ROAD VIBRATION CAUSED IT TO COME LOOSE. ALSO, THE STARTER FAILED. UPDATED 03/08/10

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING HIS VEHICLE, HE OBSERVED RUST SPOTS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE DOWN THROUGH THE REAR BUMPER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, HE NOTICED THAT LAYERS OF THE FRAME WERE FALLING OFF. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
FRONT BRAKE DISC (OR ALSO CALLED ROTORS) WARP APPARENTLY DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. DEALER SAYS NO RECALL BUT THERE IS A TSB RECOGNIZING PROBLEM. OWNER REPLACED ROTORS AND PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN 10,000 MILES. DEALER NOW RECOMMENDS USING WARRANTY ON ROTORS FROM PARTS HOUSE. THE WIDESPREAD OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM ON TOYOTA TUNDRA INDICATES THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD BE CORRECTED AT MANUFACTURER EXPENSE EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *NM
FRONT BRAKES SHAKE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY WHEN APPLIED BETWEEN 50 TO 40 MPH. A TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN WAS PUBLISHED FOR THIS PROBLEM INVOLVING REPLACING UPGRADED MAJOR BRAKE COMPONENTS, BUT WILL NOT PAY TO FIX UNDER ENGINEERED ORIGINAL PARTS. THIS NEEDS A RECALL. *JB
CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK, DRIVERS SIDE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE. CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. DEALER CLAIMS IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $1,800 AND $2,000 FOR MANIFOLD REPAIRS. PRIVATE SHOP WANTS $650 JUST FOR ONE MANIFOLD. *JB
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCK WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PARALLEL PARK ON A DOWNTOWN SIDE STREET, CAUSING ME TO HIT THE VEHICLES IN FRONT AND IN BACK. NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT VEHICULAR DAMAGE WAS CONSIDERABLE, AND MY INSURANCE INCREASED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. UNTIL NOW, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION ON THE TUNDRA TRUCK IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, EXPERIENCED BY THOUSANDS OF TUNDRA OWNERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND YET TOYOTA FAILS TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND HELP OWNERS WITH THE COST OF REPAIR. THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2000 TUNDRA NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO ABRUPT GEAR SHIFTING WHICH CAUSE THE TRUCK TO LUNGE FORWARD. I'VE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA AND THEIR ANSWER WAS " YOUR TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY". I'VE BEEN A TOYOTA OWNER FOR 15 YEARS, BUT AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA. *NM
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS POOR BODY PAINT. THE PAINT ON THE HOOD AND ON THE SIDE OF TRUCK IS LOSING COLOR AND PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF. *JB
EXHAUST MANIFOLD ARE CRACKED. THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOW ISSUE WITH THESE MANIFOLDS AND TOYOTA HAS NOT STEPPED UP AND TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM. EXHAUST GASES LEAK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH COULD ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND CREATE A SERIOUS RISK TO HEALTH. *NM
CARRYING A HEAVY LOAD IN MOUNTAIN TERRAIN. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS RAPIDLY WARPED, LEADING TO VIOLENT SHAKING, INABILITY TO STOP AND NEAR-LOSS OF CONTROL. BRAKE ROTORS WERE TURNED AND PADS UPGRADED TO CERAMIC. GOING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS WITHOUT A LOAD CAUSED THE ROTORS TO WARP AGAIN, ONCE MORE LEADING TO INABILITY TO STOP AND NEAR-LOSS OF CONTROL. THE FRONT BRAKE ASSEMBLIES WERE COMPLETELY REPLACED BY PELLMAN'S AUTOMOTIVE IN BOULDER, CO, WITH THE MECHANIC STATING THAT THE ORIGINAL TUNDRA BRAKES WERE INADEQUATE. PARTS UNAVAILABLE. *JB
I BOUGHT MY TRUCK AND ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN IT DIED. ANYTIME I CAME TO A FULL STOP IT DIED. TURNS OUT IT'S THE TRANSMISSION AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THEIR PLANETARY GEAR EVEN THOUGH IT MALFUNCTIONS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY EVERY TIME THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, AS A RESULT OF PREMATURE BRAKE ROTOR WARPING. THE BRAKE ROTORS HAVE TO BE TURNED EVERY THREE TO FOUR WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE DESIGN OF THE REAR BRAKES CAUSED EXCESSIVE TRANSFER OF THE BRAKING LOAD TO THE FRONT BRAKES. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN, NHTSA ITEM NUMBER BR00302, CONCERNING THE REAR DRUMS. THE SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBES IN DETAIL THE PROBLEM BEING CAUSED BY THE REAR DRUMS AS WELL AS HOW TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
