THE PROBLEM IS EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT,I WAS TOLD NO RECALL . I CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND A LOCAL DEALER IRA TOYOTA LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT WAS SAFE. THEIR CASE # 1002142135. THE RUST IS NOW TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE HOLES IN THE BED SUPPORTS. THE SCALE FALLS OFF IN PIECES AS BIG AS 4 INCHES BY 4 INCHES.
BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT CONNECTING RODS WHICH CONNECT THE LOWER FRONT CONTROL ARMS TO THE FRONT TORSION BAR ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4X4 HAVE BROKEN OFF WHERE THE ROD EXTENDS THROUGH THE TORSION BAR. THIS VEHICLE IS USED PRIMARILY FOR HIGHWAY DRIVING AND HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR DRIVEN ABUSIVELY IN ROUGH TERRAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WAS SENT A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE SPARE TIRE RACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST, THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT BEFORE THE TIRE RACK REPAIR COULD BE PERFORMED, THE FRAME, REAR SHOCKS, EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES AND LINKAGE, EXHAUST SYSTEM, FUEL FILTER BRACKET, FRONT SWAY BAR, TRANSMISSION MOUNT AND BOLTS, FRONT BRAKE HOSES, STEERING SHAFT KNUCKLE, FUEL TANK SYSTEM AND BODY MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE). HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND SPREAD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO PREVIOUS E-MAIL SENT 12/6/2010 ODI #10375754 TOYOTA HAS ADDRESSED THE FRAME AND CROSSMEMBER BUT NOT THE BRACKETS HOLDING EVERYTHING TO FRAME.THE PICTURES I SENT SHOW SIGNIFICANT RUST AND NOW TWO YEARS LATER TOYOTA HAS NOT RESPONDED TO THE PROBLEM.THE RUST ON THE LEAF SPRING BRACKET IS DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO FAILING.IS THERE ANY COURSE OF ACTION TO GET TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING VEHICLE RUST *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE PASSED THE INSPECTION RUST RECALL. HOWEVER, ONE OF THE STRAPS THAT HELD THE GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED AFTER THE INSPECTION. ALSO, THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAT $800 FOR A NEW STEERING RACK. *JB
LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, THROTTLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE, ENGINE KEPT RUNNING BUT I HAD TO PULL OVER IN THE EMERGENCY LANE. AUTOPART STORE CHECKED ENGINE CODE "P1121" AS A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERS TO GET MORE INFO... THEY WANTED OVER $100 JUST TO DO THE SAME THING THAT PARTS STORE DID FOR FREE. THEY SAID IT MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, IT MAY HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY, OR IT MAY FAIL. THE FIX MIGHT COST $1,000 OR MORE. I BOUGHT TOYOTA BECAUSE THEY HAD A GOOD REPUTATION, THIS SOUNDS MORE LIKE A DODGE DEALER ANSWERS... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT ALSO ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND THE GEAR SHIFTER FRACTURED IN HIS HAND. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR WOULD NOT FULLY SHIFT INTO PARK. THE CONTACT STATED THE SHIFTER WAS RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY TWO COMPONENTS THAT WOULD NEED REPAIRS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RECALL THE NAME OF THE COMPONENTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR POTENTIAL FRAME CORROSION. THE CONTACT WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE DEALER WOULD MAKE REPAIRS TO THE CONTROL ARM, STRUTS, AND SPRING PERCH IN ADDITION TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS REPAIRED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE BUT NOT THE OTHER COMPONENTS. THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS AND STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE REIMBURSED HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM WITH A DECISION BUT HE HAD NOT YET BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,368.
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND IT HAS A PROBLEM THAT WHEN THE CAR GETS HOT THE ENGINE WILL STALL OUT AND DIE WITHOUT WARNING. IT CREATES NO OMD II ERRORS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER APPEARS. THE ECM FUSE BLOWS ON OCCASION BUT REPLACING IT DOES NOT LEAD TO A RUNNING VEHICLE. IT FAILS TO START UNTIL THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COOLS DOWN. THERE IS FIRE FROM THE SPARK PLUGS AND THERE IS FUEL PRESSURE IN THE FUEL RAIL. WE HAVE REPLACED ALL THE RELAYS AND FUSES IN THE ECM AND EFI CIRCUITS AND ALL FINGERS ARE NOW POINTING TO THE ECM CONTROLLER ITSELF. WE JUST CHANGED OUT THE FUEL PUMP AND ARE LOOKING AT REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE IGNITION COILS (8) AND ALL THE FUEL INJECTORS (8). BUT SINCE ALL OF THESE COMPONENTS SEAM TO BE WORKING THAT WOULD MAKE LITTLE SINCE. THE RECENT RECALL FOR THE ECM ON THE MATRIX & COROLLA INDICATE THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF ECM UNITS FOR A MUCH LONGER PERIOD OF TIME SINCE MY TUNDRA IS EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE FOR OVER 5 YEARS NOW AND THE TOYOTA DEALERS AND OTHER TOYOTA SPECIALTY SHOPS CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM SINCE THERE ARE NO ENGINE CODES AND THE FACT THAT IT WILL START AND RUN FINE AFTER IT COOLS DOWN. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT TO DIE AND NOT START AT ALL TO HOPE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT NEED THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CORROSION FOUND ON THE CROSS MEMBER. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE CONTACT NOTICED SEVERE CORROSION ON THE REAR FRAME AND COIL SPRINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
1. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DOWN A FREEWAY (AROUND 60-70 MPH) 2. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES ALL POWER AND JUST IDLES, AT THIS POINT SPEED REDUCES BY ITSELF DOWN TO ABOUT 5-10 MPH. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOTHING. AT THIS POINT, I AM FORCED TO THE SHOULDER AS TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES. 3. ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM BY CHANGING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA AS A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
OUR 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS DEVELOPED FRAME RUST. IN 2005 WE NOTICED THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME DETERIORATING, SO WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. THEY EXPLAINED IT WOULD COST A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX, MORE THAN WE COULD AFFORD. TOYOTA ISSUED A "VOLUNTARY RECALL" LAST YEAR THAT COVERS MY MAKE AND MODEL TRUCK, WHICH A COUPLE OF INDEPENDENT BODY SHOPS (INCLUDING ONE PARTNERED WITH TOYOTA) SAYS IS NOW UNSAFE TO OPERATE. UNFORTUNATELY ON PAGE 73 OF THE RECALL DOCUMENTATION SENT TO THE DEALERS, TOYOTA DICTATES THAT THE FRAME NEEDS TO HAVE A 10MM HOLE/PERFORATION. PALM BEACH TOYOTA (THE DEALER I WENT TO) AGREES THAT MY FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED BUT BECAUSE TOYOTA (CORPORATE) DICTATES THAT I SHOULD HAVE A THROUGH AND THROUGH 10 MM SIZE HOLE, THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL. PLEASE NOTE, I HAVE SOME PORTIONS OF THE FRAME THAT HAVE FALLEN/FLAKED OFF (MISSING), BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE NO LONGER ON THE FRAME, THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERED HOLES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHEN THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, IT BEGAN TO INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATE BEFORE STALLING A SECOND TIME. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 200,000.
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA FRAME RUST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY AND FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS EXTREMELY LOW AND REFILLED THE FLUID. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL AND BELIEVED THE RECALL WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE HE HAD EXPERIENCED IN THE VEHICLE, STATING THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE POSSIBLY WAS AFFECTED BY A DEFECTIVE FRAME (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000: STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDERBODY SHIELDS). THE CONTACT DID NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY AT THE DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED FRAME FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 146,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE FRONT SUSPENSION COLLAPSED ONTO THE FRAME CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED LESS THEN 30 MPH IT ONLY HAS 69,000. MILES THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF WE WHERE ON A MAIN ROAD, OR EVEN GOING AT A HIGHER SPEED...... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE LEFT REAR SPRING BROKE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. HE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND HEARD ANOTHER LOUD NOISE AND COASTED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT IT WOULD BE 3 MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD REPAIR HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE BACK LOG OF RECALLS. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL WORK ON HIS VEHICLE ON AUGUST 23, 2010; RECALL 09V444000, STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS. AS HE WAS DRIVING FROM THE DEALERSHIP HE ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR; HE INFORMED THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE FAILURE. THE SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED THE TECHNICIANS TO CLEAN, ADJUST THE REAR BRAKES AND RELIEVE SOME TENSION ON THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO BE AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,168 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,192.
WHOLE BOTTOM FRAME OF TRUCK IS ROTTED. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT FOR RECALL. THEY SAID NOTHING IS WRONG. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC & HE SAID VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

I HAVE A TUNDRA 2000. MOST OF THE FRAME ARE CORRODED DUE TO RUST. WHILE DRIVING, HIT A POT HOLE AND THE GAS TANK STRAPS LET GO DUE TO CORROSION. GAS TANK DROP TO THE GROUND, LUCKILY I PULL TO THE SIDE AND NO ACCIDENT HAPPEN. THANKS GOD. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
I HAD MY VEHICLE INSPECTED AS PART OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN INVOLVING EXCESSIVE RUST. HOWEVER, THE REQUIRED WORK TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK STRAPS AND CRC COATING WAS NOT DONE. NOW, DEALER RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL, AND I CAN'T HAVE THE WORK DONE. WHILE MY TRUCK IS NOT NOW IN A COLD CLIMATE STATE, IT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD AND OWNED IN ONE.

ON OR ABOUT APRIL 24TH, 20010 MY SON WAS DRIVING MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA PICK UP TRUCK WHEN THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE MOUNT UNDER THE TRUCK. ONE OF THE BRACKETS THAT IS WELDED TO THE FRAME THAT HOLDS THE STEERING STABILIZER IS ALMOST GONE. AFTER TALKING TO A FRIEND OF MINE THAT OWNS A BODY SHOP HE INFORMED ME ABOUT FRAME RUST ISSUES ON EARLIER YEAR TUNDRA'S IN CERTAIN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY, MASSACHUSETTS BEING ONE OF THEM. HE ALSO INFORMED ME ABOUT RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROBLEM. AFTER GOING ONLINE AND READING ON THE TOYOTA WEBSITE WHAT THE RECALL INVOLVES I AM VERY SAD TO FIND IT ONLY TALKS ABOUT A REAR CROSSMEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE. THIS DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO THE EXTENT OF THE RUST ON THIS FRAME AND ASSOCIATED PARTS. 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. DRIVING ALONG NORMALLY ... SUDDENLY THE TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE .. IT WENT INTO IDLE BUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING .. I WAS IN TRAFFIC, CRAWLING ALONG. I PUT ON MY FLASHERS, PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROAD, SHUT TRUCK OFF, THEN CHECKED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL (NOTHING UNUSUAL), CHECKED THE OIL (FINE), CHECKED THE TRANS FLUID (FINE). WHEN I RESTARTED THE TRUCK - IT SEEMED OKAY - EXCEPT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I DROVE THE TRUCK TO THE NEAREST REPAIR GARAGE. THEY SAID THE CHECK ENGINE CODE WAS P1121 AND WAS A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. THEY ALSO SAID THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH THE VEHICLE DUE TO ALL THE RECENT PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA ACCELERATORS. STEERING INSTABILITY WAS NOTED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. UPON INSPECTION BY MECHANIC, EXTENSIVE CORROSION OF THE FRAME WAS FOUND. I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED FROM AN OWNER IN BURLINGTON VERMONT ON 10/4/07. THE TRUCK IS GARAGED IN CONCORD NH. I TOOK THE TRUCK FOR AN ANNUAL INSPECTION AS REQUIRED BY NH ON 3/31/10. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE UNINSPECTABLE NEXT YEAR. THE ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE A FRAME INSPECTION PERFORMED BY TOYOTA DUE TO THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS. I TOOK THE TUNDRA TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TUNDRA HAD FRAME DAMAGE (RUST THROUGH HOLES) AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I WAS SUPPLIED WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE AND THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER REPORTING PHONE NUMBER. I FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA ON 4/1/10. TOYOTA CALLED ME 4/5/10 AND SAID THAT THEY WILL SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I AM WAITING FOR A DETERMINATION FROM TOYOTA ON WHAT, IF ANY ACTION THEY WILL TAKE. HI - IN 2001 I PURCHASED A 2000 TUNDRA AND HAD MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES SOME TIME LATER. AFTER SEVERAL CONTACTS WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICES I WAS TOLD I WAS OUT OF LUCK. THE ROTORS WOULD WARP AND IN 2003 TOYOTA INCREASED THE CALIPER/PAD SIZE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TSB RELEASED TO FIX THE OLDER TRUCKS BUT NOTHING WAS DONE TO FIX THE PRE 03 TRUCKS. AT ONE POINT SEVERAL YEARS AFTER THE TRUCKS HIT THE ROAD, TOYOTA SAID IF YOUR TRUCK HAD UNDER 30K MILES THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, BY THEN ALL TRUCKS HAD MORE MILES THAN 30K AT AVERAGE YEARLY MILEAGE RATES. I BELIEVE PEOPLE LIVES WERE AT RISK, AND TOYOTA FAILED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM FOR FINANCIAL REASONS. I HAD RECEIVED NO RECALL NOTICE OR LETTER OF AN "ADVISORY"THE VEHICLE IS A SR5 (4X4) REGULAR CAB ,8' BED, 114,000 MILES AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED,WITH A LEER HIGH CAP , AND BEDLINER I THIS ONE OWNER. A MECHANIC BRIEFLY LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE WHO TOLD ME HE WANTED TO PUT IT ON THE LIFT TO GET A BETTER LOOK. THE DAMAGE WAS SO SEVERE TO BOTH RAILS OF THE FRAME THAT THE TRUCK WAS DEEMED TO BE TOTALLY UNSAFE AND HE HAD TO TAKE MY KEYS AND IMPOUND THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK ME TO THE LIFT AND SHOWED ME FIRST THE PASSENGER SIDE RAIL OF THE FRAME. IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE THERE WAS A FIST SIZED HOLE IN THE FRAME AS WELL AS AN ADJOINING CRACK THAT EXTENDED ENTIRELY THROUGH THE STEEL MEMBER FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. IT WAS BASICALLY SPLIT IN 2 PIECES. HE THEN REACHED IN WHERE THE HOLE WAS AND PULLED A 8 TO 12 INCH MULTILAYERED SHEET OF RUST OFF THE FRAME. THE DRIVER SIDE WAS IN VERY SIMILAR CONDITION BUT THE CRACK WAS JUST SHORT OR GOING ALL THE WAY FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER ( DEAN CARNES-BENNETT TOYOTA, ALLENTOWN, PA.-610 437-6711) THIS WAS MY BUSINESS VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME THAT ALL THE DEALER COULD DO WAS PROVIDE ME A RENTAL CAR AS THEY HAD NO RENTAL TRUCKS. I AM NOW DRIVING A TOYOTA COROLLA THAT IS UNSUITED FOR MY NEEDS. HE SAID THAT ANYTHING FURTHER WOULD HAVE TO GO TOYOTA DIRECTLY. I CALLED AND FILED A CASE AN REITERATED I NEEDED A RENTAL TRUCK. I GOT A CALL A COUPLE DAYS LATER FROM THE TOYOTA REP. ASSIGNED TO THE CASE. SHE TOLD ME THAT THE CASE WAS PUT ON "ESCALATED STATUS" BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NO RENTAL TRUCK AND NO WORD FROM TOYOTA. A CO-WORKER SENT ME A REAR PHOTO OF MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN THE PARKING LOT SHOWING THE SPARE ON THE GROUND. AFTER REMOVING THE SPARE I NOTICE THAT THE CROSS MEMBER WHICH SUPPORTS THE SPARE WAS BROKEN IN HALF. WHERE THE CROSS MEMBER ATTACHES TO THE FRAME HAS ROTTED AWAY. THE DRIVER SIDE SHOCK IS BROKEN AND DETACHED. THE EXHAUST IS ALSO QUESTIONABLE AS IT IS ATTACHED TO THE BROKEN CROSS MEMBER. REAR BRAKE LINE AND PROPORTIONING VALVE ARE ALSO IN QUESTION AS THEY ALSO ARE PARTIALLY SUPPORTED BY THE CROSS MEMBER AND ROTTING FRAME. AS OF T HIS WRITING I HAVE A CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED WITH TOYOTA BUT LIKE MANY OTHERS WE ARE GETTING NOTHING BUT LIP SERVICE.
