I RECENTLY TOOK THIS TRUCK IN ON A TRADE AND KNEW NOTHING ABOUT TOYOTA'S FRAME RUST ISSUES. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AND EXPLAINED THE RUST PERFORATION ISSUE I NOTICED ON THIS TRUCK. HAS A MARBLE SIZED HOLE BY THE DRIVERS SIDE SPRING PERCH AND THE FRAME IS THIN ON BOTH SIDES IN THAT AREA. THE PASSENGER SIDE BEHIND THE WHEEL HAS A HOLE THE SIZE OF A TENNIS BALL ON THE SIDE, A HOLE THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL ON THE BOTTOM(SAME AREA), AND A HOLE AN INCH WIDE BY FOUR INCHES LONG ON THE TOP OF FRAME(SAME AREA). THE REST OF THE FRAME IS HEAVILY RUSTED AND THIN. THE RUST COMES OFF IN BIG FLAKES. I EXPLAINED ALL THIS TO TOYOTA AND RECEIVED A CASE # AND WAS TOLD SOME ONE WOULD CONTACT ME. WELL FINALLY GOT A CALL AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING YEAH THAT IS RIGHT NOTHING ABOUT IT SINCE THEIR GOOD WILL "LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN A0F" HAD EXPIRED. SO NOW THAT THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT I HAVE A TRUCK THAT IS A TIME BOMB WAITING TO BREAK APART HOPEFULLY SOME ONE DOESN'T GET KILLED WITH THIS DEATH TRAP. WAY TO MAKE A HAPPY CUSTOMER TOYOTA !!!! WONDER HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE WILL GET DUPED BY TOYOTA. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 13, 2013 I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO SPRINGFIELD TOYOTA IN SPRINGFIELD VIRGINIA FOR SOME REPAIR WORK,BRAKES AND TO HAVE THE COIL PACK REPLACED. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO COMPLETE THE STATE OF VIRGINIA SAFETY INSPECTION, DURING THE SAFETY INSPECTION THE DEALER MECHANICS FOUND A HOLE IN THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER DOOR AND TOLD ME THAT MY TRUCK COULD NOT PASS THE SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THAT,AFTER PAYING THE DEALER OVER $2000 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIRS THAT THEY COMPLETED, I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE BODYSHOP THAT THEY RECOMMENDED...THIS BODYSHOP TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME AT LEAST $1500 DOLLARS TO HAVE THEM CUT THE HOLE OUT AND WELD A PIECE OF METAL INTO THE FRAME...AFTER LEAVING THE BODYSHOP I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR RUSTY FRAMES AND THE CROSSMEMBER FOR THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER AND THE FUEL TANK STRAPS BUT THAT RECALL HAD EXPIRED ON DECEMBER 31 2012...LATER TOYOTA CORPORATE CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD FIX THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER,CROSSMEMBER AND FUEL TANK STRAPS ON 29 MARCH 2013 AT BILL PAGE TOYOTA IN FALLS CHURCH VIRGINIA AND TO GET BACK WITH THEM ON THE FRAME REPAIRS. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED AT SPRINGFIELD TOYOTA ON A REGULAR BASIS AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS OR TSB'S ON MY TRUCK. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN ILLINIOS AND IT WAS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL FOR RUSTY FRAMES, I FEEL THAT THIS CONDITION CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT FOR ALL MOTORIST ON THE ROAD WITH ME...TOYOTA NEEDS TO ISSUES A RECALL AND DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM IN GOOD FAITH. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A RUSTY FRAME...I WONDER HOW MANY OWNER OF THESE VEHICLES ARE OUT HERE DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND DO NOT KNOW IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V444000 (STRUCTURE) A FEW YEARS AGO AND WHILE ENTERING A SERVICE STATION AT 2 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SPARE TIRE HAD SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 157,000.
IN JUNE 2010 MY TUNDRA WAS REPAIRED AFTER BEING RECALLED FOR A SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME AND SPARE TIRE HOUSING. WHAT SIGNALED THE PROBLEM WAS WHEN MY SPARE TIRE DROPPED FROM THE MOUNT AND WAS DANGLING ABOVE THE GROUND CAUSING ME TO ALMOST LOOSE CONTROL ON AN OFF RAMP. THE FIRST DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME "THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED I CAN PUT A SCREWDRIVER THRU IT". HE THEN ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE HOME. ON A SECOND OPINION, THE TRUCK WAS PULLED OFF THE ROAD . WHEN I PICKED UP THE TRUCK FOLLOWING THE REPAIRS THE SPARE WAS IN TRUCKBED AND I HAD TO ASK FOR IT TO BE INSTALLED. ( HAD THEY EVEN LOOKED AT IT?) )N 1/25/13 WHILE PUMPING GAS, I LOOK BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND SEE THE SPARE TIRE ON THE GROUND! THE PLATE THAT HOLDS THE TIRE WAS WORN AWAY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO TOLD ME THAT THESE THINGS CAN HAPPEN IN COLDER CLIMATES BUT WHEN PRESSED SHE SAID THAT I COULD GET IT INSPECTED AND ALSO HAVE THE FUEL TANK STRAPS INSPECTED AS THERE HAD BE RUST ISSUES WITH THESE ON THE 2000 TUNDRA. WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WOULD BE A RECALL OR NOTIFICATION, I WAS TOLD NO. THIS IS APPALLING. THE TIRE EASILY COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF WHILE BEING DRIVEN AND NOW A FUEL TANK HOLDER MAY BE RUSTED. SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL? I HAD TALKED TO A NTSB MEMBER BUT WANTED TO UPDATE SINCE I TALKED TO TOYOTA. *TR
TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE 2000 TUNDRA FRAME STATING THE CORROSION PROTECTION WAS INSUFFICIENT FOR THE CLIMATE IN THE NORTHERN REGION CAUSING THE MOUNT FOR THE REAR TIRE TO FALL OFF.THERE FIX WAS TO UNDERCOAT ONLY THE BACK HALF AND NOT ADDRESSING THE FRONT PART OF THE FRAME WHICH IS MADE OUT OF THE SAME METAL, THE FRAME IS RUSTING AWAY AT BOTH THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AND BEHIND MOTOR MOUNTS CAUSING THE TRUCK TO BE VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE THIS WAS BROUGHT TO THERE ATTENTION AFTER WAS THEY SAID WAS THERE CAM PANE WHICH ENDED ON12/31/12 THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO WITH ANYBODY BODY THEY DID THIS TO CAN BE DRIVING SOMETHING THAT WILL FAIL AND SOMEBODYS LIFE WILL BE LOST. *TR
ON 1/1/2013 WHILE AT THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL HOLE IN THE FRAME. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECENT RECALL BECAUSE IT HAD EXPIRED AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE HOLE. THE HOLE IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A HALF DOLLAR AND RIGHT ABOVE THE FRONT WHEEL. THERE IS ALSO SEVERE RUST SCALING AROUND THE AREA AND SEVERAL LARGE PIECES OF FRAME LOOSE INSIDE THE HOLE. MY TUNDRA HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY THIS DEALER WHO ALSO PERFORMED THE RECALL INSPECTION. WHEN INSPECTED INITIALLY THERE WERE NO ISSUED FOUND. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE UNDERCOATING PROTECTION INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THE DEALER DIDN'T HAVE THE MATERIAL. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA USA. CASE #1109231360. IN 2011. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN UPDATE ON THE COMPLAINT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD ALL MY SERVICE DONE AT THIS DEALER. HOW DID THEY NOT NOTICE THIS HOLE UNTIL AFTER THE RECALL EXPIRED? MY CONCERN IS THAT THE FRAME IS RUSTING PREMATURELY AND THE DEALER TURNED A BLIND EYE TO IT IN ORDER TO AVOID THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THAN AFTER THE RECALL EXPIRED, INFORMED ME OF THE DEFECT. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR DROPPED DOWN UPON DRIVING OVER SLIGHT BUMPS ON THE HIGHWAY AFFECTING MY VISION OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. DIMINISHED AND UNEXPECTED VISION WHILE DRIVING IS VERY HAZARDOUS. I'VE LOOKED FOR AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE VISOR BUT I FOUND NONE. I LOOKED ONLINE FOR ASSISTANCE FOR THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS MANY OTHERS HAVE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE FRAME AND TIRES FELT AT IF THEY WERE NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION WAS CORRODED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.

THE CONTACT HAD THE RECALL COMPONENT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH, THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE DROPPED. THE CONTACT EXITING AND INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL HAD SEPARATED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER DIAGNOSIS THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BALL JOINTS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 163,075. UPDATED 2/4/13 *CN UPDATED 02/21/13
PREVIOUS COMPLAINT NOT CORRECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA NEWBURGH NY FOR SAFETY RECALL REPLACE FRAME WAS TOLD AT TIME HAD TO DO POWER STEERING AS LEAKING AND RUST AND ENTIRE COST I HAD TO PAY THOUGH COMPAIN STATES THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE OR THEY WOULDN'T PASS INSPECTION, I SHOWED THEM. NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO DO & HOPE TO RECOUPE LATER, YEAH RIGHT. TRUCK WENT IN COMPLETE FRAME WAS DONE REMARKABLE FAST, OBVIOUS WHY, AS I DROVE HOME THE TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN PUT BACK ON FRAME CORRECT THAT WAS CLEAR TO THE EYE BUT DRIVING IT THE CHALLENGE TO REMAIN ON ROAD SAFE.THE DEALER NYS CERTIFIED INSP. SITE ALSO PASSED THIS VEHICLE. THE TRUCK HAS SO MANY MORE SAFETY ISSUES AFTER COMPLETION ITS A JOKE THANKS NHTSA. NOT TO MENTION THE MALFUNCTION OF MANY COMPONENTS THAT WORKED PRIOR, CALLED DEALER AND COMPLAINED, THEY ALSO INFORMED ME AS REPLACE BEING DONE THAT THE EXHAUST HANGING BY THREAD DUE TO RUST BRACKETS ETC THE COST TO REPAIR $6000.00 IF I BRING IT BACK THEY WILL SURELY VIOLATE ME AGAIN, I CANT AFFORD $/AGGRAV. NHTSA HAS DONE NOTHING FOR ME BUT THEY CONTINUE TO COMPAIN ON THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE WE AS CONSUMERS ARE THESE TRUCKS NEED BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. TOYOTA CORP. N DEALER LAUGHED WHEN I STATED CALLING NHTSA GO AHEAD THEY WONT DO ANYTHING, FILLED W TOYOTA CUSTOMER HOTLINE ANYWAY KNOWING THEY ARE IN BED WITH NHTSA. MY ? WHO & WHERE ARE THESE FINES BILLLIONS OF $ GOING, SURELY NOT TO THE OWNERS OF VEHICLES. MR. I HAD A RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING FRAME RUST. IT WAS TO BE DONE AT NO CHARGE. WHEN THE DEALER INSPECTED THE FRAME, THEY SAID THE TRUCK QUALIFIED FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT AT NO CHARGE. WHEN THE WORK WAS BEGINNING, HOWEVER, I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL STATING NUMEROUS PARTS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE DESTROYED DURING THE FRAME REPLACEMENT PROCESS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT NEGOTIABLE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. THESE INCLUDED ALL SHOCKS, TIE RODS AND ENDS FOR $350. ALSO, THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE STEERING RACK AND RADIATOR CAP FOR AN ADDITIONAL $650. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATION TO TRY TO GET THE REAL STORY OF WHAT IS COVERED AND WHAT MAY NOT BE COVERED. *TR

WHILE REPAIRING THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER OFFERED ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 108,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL IN REGARDS TO THE CHASSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER THE RECALL HOWEVER, TWO WEEKS LATER HE STARTED TO NOTICE OTHER FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE SUSPENSION ON THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SUPPORT THE WEIGHT FROM HIS TRAILER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND EVAPORATION SYSTEM FAILED, AND THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDER BODY SHIELDS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DISASSEMBLED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND INSTALLED A NEW CHASSIS, PER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE REPAIRS HE COULD NO LONGER TOW HIS TRAILER. IN ADDITION, THE EVAP SYSTEM AND THE RACK IN PINION WARNING CODES WERE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY DID NOT CAUSE ANY OF THE NEW ISSUES WITH THE CODES ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT WHATEVER THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD STAND BY THEIR DECISION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FRAME CORROSION RECALL, I TOOK MY TUNDRA IN FOR A SECOND INSPECTION. IT WAS PERFORATED SO BAD IT WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHIN A YEAR AFTER THE FIRST INSPECTION WHEN IT PASSED. AFTER MULTIPLE DELAYS AND 12 WEEKS I RECEIVED MY TUNDRA BACK ONLY TO BE PLAGUED WITH MULTIPLE REPAIRS SINCE. TACOMA OWNERS WITH THE SAME RECALL WERE OFFERED A CASH VALUE TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE BUT TUNDRA OWNERS WERE NOT OFFERED THAT DEAL. I WANTED TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BY A THIRD PARTY BUT TOYOTA WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE IT. MULTIPLE REPAIRS SINCE CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE FRAME REPLACEMENT. TOYOTA TOOK 2 DAYS TO REBUILD MY TRUCK FOR WHAT WAS A 2 WEEK JOB. SINCE THEN MY RESEARCH HAS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS CONFLICTS WITH WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON MY TRUCK WITH THE RECALL WORK AND WHAT WAS ACTUALLY DONE. IT IS CLEAR THAT TOYOTA RUSHED THROUGH MY REBUILD ONCE THE DELAYED FRAME ARRIVED TO GET MY TRUCK BACK TO ME AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE WHICH CONCERNS ME FOR THE WORKMANSHIP AND QUALITY. I CURRENTLY HAVE ONGOING REPAIR PROBLEMS THAT THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIX AND TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO ACCEPT THAT THE FRAME REPLACEMENT ON A 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE MAY BE THE CAUSE. I HAVE/HAD HARD KNOCKING NOISES IN MY SUSPENSION, STEERING PROBLEMS, BRAKE ISSUES, AXLE SEAL PROBLEMS, PARKING BRAKE ISSUES, DAMAGED RADIATOR ETC. THAT I HAVE PAID FOR AN CONTINUE TO FAIL. I HAVE ASKED FOR A COMPLETE PARTS LIST FROM THE REBUILD WHICH I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED. MY INQUIRIES HAVE GOTTEN ME NOWHERE AND TOYOTA CORPORATE DISCOUNTED MY ISSUE AND SENT ME BACK THE DEALER/ SERVICE CENTER. I ALSO OWN A RAV 4 WHICH HAD THE GAS PEDAL RECALL WHICH I HAD TO TAKE IN TWICE BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT IT WAS. THEN I GOT ANOTHER LETTER, CALLED AND WAS INFORMED THAT IS WAS AND THEN TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR. SAFETY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE THE PRIORITY OF TOYOTA. *TR

ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN ON THE SAME SIDE. THE PARTS USED TO FIX IT THE FIRST TIME WERE FACTORY TOYOTA PARTS. IVE READ WHERE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OUT OF THEY'RE 2000 TUNDRA BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT COVER THIS MODEL EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PARTS ARE USED. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OVER A ROAD HUMP WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE FUEL TANK STRAP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REIMBURSED THE CONTACT FOR THE PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. UPDATED 02/22/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERE FRAME RUST, INCLUDING THE CROSS MEMBER, GAS STRAPS, BRAKE LINES, PROPORTIONAL VALVE ETC. LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE ! CRUISING AT 30 MPH I HEARD A LOUD POP AND MY LEFT FRONT TIRE HITS THE INNER FENDER AND WEDGES AGAINST THE GROUND AND BODY OF MY TRUCK ! LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND OR BESIDE ME. I WAS ABLE TO GET 1/4 OF THE WAY OFF THE ROAD ONLY BLOCKING THE FAR RIGHT LANE ON A 3 LANE ROAD AND A SCHOOL DRIVEWAY ! AND ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT STOPPED AS THEY WERE ENTERING THE SCHOOL TOLD ME THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO THEM AND THAT I SHOULD CALL TOYOTA. CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD NO RECALL FOR MY TRUCKS VIN. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME YEAR AND VEHICLE AS MINE BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT SAFETY RECALL YEARS ! I AM VERY GLAD THAT I DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE HIGHWAY 1/2 MILE AWAY THAT I WAS GOING TO BE TRAVELING ON, AS I MIGHT NOT BE TUCKING MY SON INTO BED TONIGHT ! CALLED A FRIEND AND GOT IT OUT OF THE ROAD AND REPLACED THE LOWER AND UPPER BALL JOINTS IN THE SCHOOLS DRIVEWAY TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. AND NOW NEEDS A NEW SPINDLE, TIE ROD, AND BRAKE LINE NOT TO MENTION ANOTHER SET OF BALL JOINTS. THE SPINDLE WAS BENT AND WAS FORCED BACK INTO SHAPE TO LIMP IT HOME. I STILL HAVE THE OLD PARTS FOR INSPECTION AND RESEARCH. IT IS A REAL SHAME THAT A COMPANY WITH SO MANY YEARS OF RELIABLE AND TROUBLE FREE VEHICLES HAS HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS AND RECALLS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. GUESS THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU USE INFERIOR PARTS THAT YOUR REPUTATION WAS NOT BUILT ON ! *TR
TOYOTA DEALER SERVICED VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT APPLYING THE ANTI-CORROSION COATING WAS THE APPROPRIATE REMEDY. WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THIS BEING DONE, MUCH OF THE COATING FLAKED OFF, LEAVING THE RUSTING FRAME EXPOSED. RETURNED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
SEVERE FRAME RUST ON 20000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I HAD THIS INSPECTED LAST YEAR AND THEY SAID TOYOTA DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING IN PLACE TO PREVENT THE FRAME FROM RUSTING. THE TRUCK WAS IN FOR WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND NOW I AM TOLD THEY CAN NO LONGER ALIGN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND STRUCTURAL DEFECT FROM THE RUST. THE DEALER SAYS TOYOTA DOES NOT PAY TO "DERUST" THE FRAME BUT WILL INSPECT UNTIL THE RUST RECALL ENDS IN 3/2012. PLEASE HELP! *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2000 TUNDRA NEW IN 1999. THE FRAME IS RUSTING BEYOND NORMAL LIMITS AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED BY TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF THEY HIT THE FRAME WITH A HAMMER AND THE HAMMER DOES NOT GO THROUGH THE FRAME THEN IT'S OK. I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. *TR
GUIDANCE IS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO RECEIVE HELP FROM TOYOTA WITH HONORING THEIR RECALLS FOR MANUFACTURER DEFECTS AND OMISSIONS ON MY 200 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN MARYLAND AND IS NOW IN SPAIN. YET, IT WAS PURCHASED AFTER THE RECALLS WERE INITIATED AND TOYOTA NEVER ADVISED ME OF THE THEN AND CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. MY PURCHASE WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN MADE HAD I KNOWN OF THESE DEFECTS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. *TR
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE BRACKETS AND FRAME HAVE BEEN CORRODING. CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL FOR THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED THE METAL WAS BREAKING OFF IN LAYERS AND WOULD CAUSE A FAILURE ON THE PART IT WAS CONNECTED TOO. *JB
