INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME INDICATES THAT THERE IS EXTENSIVE ROT BEYOND THE CROSSMEMBER INVOLVED IN THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE CURRENT RECALL IS LIMITED TO THE CROSSMEMBER SUPPORTING THE VEHICLES SPARE TIRE, WHILE THE FRAME ROT UNCOVERED IN THIS INSPECTION INVOLVES THE FRAME RAILS (RUNNING FRONT TO BACK) IN THE VICINITY OF BOTH FORWARD WHEEL WELLS AND IT IS EXTREMELY APPARENT WITHIN THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL. IN ADDITION, THERE IS EXTENSIVE ROT IN THE FRAME BENEATH THE DRIVERS SEAT IN THE VICINITY OF THE REAR BRAKE LINE MOUNTS AND ALSO IN ANOTHER CROSSMEMBER FORMING THE REAR SHOCK TOWER ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE. IT WOULD APPEAR THE ROT IS SO EXTENSIVE THAT THE FRAME IS BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT WOULD BE WARRANTED. SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME, BRACKETS & ANYTHING ELSE ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. FRAME IS SO ROTTED THAT HUGE CHUNKS OF METAL ARE COMING OFF. FRAME ROTTED AT FRONT OF FRAME WHERE IT MEETS THE BUMPER (I'M JUST WAITING FOR THE BUMPER TO FALL OFF), TIRE CROSS MEMBER ROTTED (I HAVE REMOVED THE TIRE). ENTIRE FRAME NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST, BEYOND REPAIR. FRAME HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR YEARS & TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR UPDATED 02/01/10.*JB
SEVERE BRAKE VIBRATION. REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS, ROTORS & CALIPERS (W/ OEM PARTS) AROUND 72K. AT 92K TRUCK DEVELOPED A SEVERE BRAKING VIBRATION BOTH IN THE FRONT & REAR THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE SO BAD THAT IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL THE TRUCK WHEN BRAKING/STOPPING. AGAIN I REPLACED BOTH THE FRONT ROTORS & CALIPERS & HAD THE REAR BRAKE PIVOTS CLEANED & LUBED(AT THE DEALERSHIP). NOW 10K LATER I AM AGAIN STARTING TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME BRAKING PROBLEMS & VIBRATIONS. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKE PARTS AFTER 20K & I DEFINITELY SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THAT SAME PROBLEMS 10K LATER. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED. FRAME IS SO RUSTED IT JUST FLAKES APART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. HE STATED THAT HE COULD FEEL A DIFFERENCE IN HOW THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME RAIL COVERED WITH RUST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN 09V444000, STRUCTURE FRAME AND MEMBERS, UNDERBODY SHIELDS PERTAINING TO RUST ON THE REAR CROSS-MEMBER. THE DEALER ALSO REFUSED TO INCLUDE THE ACTUAL FRAME RAIL COMPONENT IN THE RECALL REPAIR AND ADVISED THE CONTACT NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, DEEMING IT AS "UNSAFE." NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE NUMBERS WERE 160,259.
EXCESSIVE PREMATURE RUSTING OF FRAME AND COMPONENTS, SPRING SHACKLES, SPARE TIRE AREA. TRUCKED FAILED MA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION ON 11/24/09 AND IS CONSIDERED UNDRIVEABLE UNTIL REPAIRS ARE MADE. I AM AWARE OF A RECALL IN EFFECT ON OR BEFORE 12/15/09 AND ALSO PLAN TO CONTACT TOYOTA FOR AN INSPECTION. *TR
ON 24 NOV 09 TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR 2000 TUNDRA PICKUPS, REGARDING FRAME CORROSION AND PARTICULARLY CORROSION ON THE CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE. ALTHOUGH I READ ABOUT THIS ONLINE, TOYOTA HAS YET TO INFORM ME BY MAIL. ON 24 MARCH 2010 I TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO BERLIN CITY MOTORS IN PORTLAND ME FOR AN INSPECTION OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CORROSION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO WARRANT FRAME REPLACEMENT, BUT THAT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED OF WHEN TO RETURN FOR APPLICATION OF SOME SORT OF CORROSION INHIBITING GUNK. SEVEN MONTHS LATER I HEARD NOTHING. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICES AND BEGAN A COMPLAINT PROCESS. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE STILL SENDING OUT RECALLS ..ALMOST A YEAR LATER!!! THEY CLAIM THAT THEY NEED INFO FROM THE STATE OF MAINE REGARDING LEGALITY OF APPLYING CORROSION INHIBITING GUNK ON SAFELY, AND THEY NEED "OTHER" PERMISSIONS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT TOYOTA IS STALLING ON THIS FAIRLY SIMPLE RECALL, HOPING TO REDUCE THE PROBLEM BY ATTRITION OF OLDER VEHICLES. I WOULD APPRECIATE INFO FROM NHTSA AS TO WHY TOYOTA IS BEING ALLOWED TO TAKE THIS LONG ON A PROJECT THAT ISN'T EXACTLY ROCKET SCIENCE. 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA BROUGHT TO MECHANIC TO CHECK OUT POWER STEERING. POWER STEERING COLUMN AND POWER STEERING BLOCK FOUND TO BE ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF FRAME OF TRUCK. MECHANIC REPORTS THAT THE TRUCK POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND JUST IN TIME TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. CURRENTLY CONTACTING TOYOTA COMPANY AS THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM FOUND IN THE 2000 TACOMAS. *TR
RUSTED FRAME ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. *TR
I HAVE 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 4X4 ACCESS CAB THAT OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS IS SHOWING RAPID AMOUNTS OF RUST ON THE FRAME ESPECIALLY AROUND THE WELDS AND HUBS. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY IN THE 90,000 MILES RANGE AND BESIDES THE RUST IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE AND HAVE RECORDS. BUT IT WILL DO ME NO GOOD IF THIS CONTINUES TO RUST AT SUCH A RAPID PACE THAT IT HAS THUS FAR. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA V8 4.7 4WD 104K MILES WHILE CHANGING OIL DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2009 EXCESSIVE RUST WAS NOTICED ON THE TRUCK FRAME NEAR THE LEAF SPRING MOUNTS. WITH MINIMAL SCRAPING LARGE FLAKES OF RUSTED FRAME PEELED OFF. UNDERNEATH THE FLAKES THE FRAME HAS ROTTED COMPLETELY THROUGH IN MULTIPLE SPOTS WITH THE LARGEST HOLE BEING 4 SQUARE INCHES. THIS IS OCCURRING HEAVILY ON THE RIGHT FRAME RAIL AND TO A LESSER BUT STILL ACCELERATED RATE ON THE LEFT. THE BODY AND UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE ARE OTHERWISE RUST FREE AND IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AT ALL. IT IS LIKE THE FRAME IS DISSOLVING WHILE EVERYTHING ELSE IS RUST FREE. *TR
PERFORATION IN RIGHT FRAME RAIL. FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH ON PASSENGER SIDE UNDER CAB DOOR. ACTUAL HOLE IN FRAME DUE TO RUST. MY MECHANIC THAT SERVICES TRUCK REGULARLY RECOMMENDED NOT DRIVING DUE TO LOCATION OF RUST. I ASKED TOYOTA OF WELLESLEY, MASS TO LOOK AT THE DAMAGE. THEY CONFIRMED THE DAMAGE BUT DID NOT INDICATED ON THE PAPERWORK THAT IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AND DECELERATING THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CHECK WITH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTEN. THE DEALER STATED QUOTED A PRICE OF $8000-$9000 TO REPLACE THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN DRIVABLE CONDITION AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 94,000.
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA FRAME RAILS THAT GO FROM FRONT TO BACK, BACK TO FRONT RUSTED NEARLY IN HALF MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE RUST IS NOT JUST THE ISSUE WITH THE CROSSMEMBER. VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN, IT IT NOT SAFE.
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA FRAME RUST SAFETY ISSUE I COULD NOT HAVE THE FRONT BUMPER REPLACED DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY RECOMMENDED A FRAME INSPECTION AND CHARGED $98 DOLLARS TO TELL ME THAT THERE WAS PERFORATED RUST AT 9 DIFFERENT INSPECTION POINT AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I CONTACTED THE "TOYOTA EXPERIENCE" AND THEN OPENED A CASE ONLY TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE SINCE THIS IS THE SAME MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT THEY ADMITTED TO ON THE TACOMA THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT ON THE TUNDRA. *TR
MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 4WD PICKUP FRAME IS RUSTING TO THE POINT THAT IT SOON WILL RUST THROUGH NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR LEAF SPRING MOUNT POINT. IT ONLY HAS 112,000 MILES AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN WINTER FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM AS WELL, BUT THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT TUNDRA FRAME RUSTING AT THIS TIME. *TR

WHEN I PURCHASED A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA 2 YEARS AGO, MY MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT AND FOUND IT MECHANICALLY SOUND WITH MINIMAL FRAME RUST. TWO WEEKS AGO I BROUGHT IT TO THE SAME MECHANIC FOR MY 3,000 MILE OIL CHANGE. IT NOW HAS 73,000 MILES ON IT. HE DISCOVERED THE FRAME WAS BADLY RUSTED. HE CHECKED THE INTERNET AND TOLD ME THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL OF THE 2000 AND 2001 TOYOTA TUNDRA. HE SUGGESTED THAT I BRING IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER. I DID SO AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRUCK HAD BADLY RUSTED FRAME RAILS AND ONE CROSS FRAME BRACKET WAS TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH. THE DEALER ADVISED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA CORPORATE. I DID SO, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND, THEREFORE, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. WORTHY OF NOTE IS THAT MY SECOND VEHICLE, A 1999 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER WITH 89,000 MILES, HAS INSIGNIFICANT RUST. *TR

WELL MAINTAINED WAS TAKEN FOR YEARLY PENNSYLVANIA STATE INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE BRAKE LINES, FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS ARE RUSTED THROUGH. MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE REAR BRAKE LINES ON THE DRIVERS REAR SIDE HAVE BEEN REPLACED. *TR
MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS SEVERE RUST ON THE FRAME. THE BODY HAS NONE. ALL MAJOR JOINTS AND WELD POINTS SHOW EXCESSIVE RUST AND COULD LEAD TO PREMATURE FAILURE. *TR
ABNORMAL FRAME RUST ON 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. UPON HAVING A SPRAYED IN BEDLINER INSTALLED TO FURTHER ENHANCE/PRESERVE OUR VEHICLE THE INSTALLATION COMPANY ADVISED US THEY NOTED A SEVERE AMOUNT OF FRAME RUST, THAT WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE CONDITION OF THE REST OF VEHICLE. THEY WERE UNDER THE VEHICLE FOR A FIRE WATCH DURING THE INSTALLATION OF TWO WELDED PATCHES TO THE TRUCK BED TO ELIMINATE RUST IN THE BED BEFORE IT SPREAD. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THE FRAME IS INDEED INCONSISTENTLY RUSTED IN COMPARISON TO THE REMAINDER OF THE VEHICLE. THIS INCLUDES SUBSTANTIAL RUSTING OF THE SUPPORT FOR THE FUEL TANK WHICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE LOCAL DEALER SUGGESTED THAT BASED ON THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE THE FRAME MAY HAVE BEEN COATED IN OHIO WHERE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PROPER AMOUNT COATING BEING APPLIED, BUT THAT THEY WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING AT THIS TIME FOR CUSTOMERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION A MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE CARRIAGE FRAME HAD CORRODED. THE FRAMES LEFT REAR CORNER HAD A HOLE INCH IN DIAMETER, AND THE RIGHT FRONT STABILIZER WAS FRACTURED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 113,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
NOTICED RUSTING ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA ABOUT 4--5 YEARS AGO DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT BECAUSE OF TUNDRA'S GOOD REPUTATION SURPRISE' SURPRISE' TUNDRA WENT IN FOR SOME MINOR REPAIR & WAS PROMPTLY TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE FRAME WAS TOTALLY RUSTED & THAT IT WAS BENDING WHILE IT WAS UP ON THE LIFT ......TOOK IT TO IRA TOYOTA IN DANVERS MASS WHERE I PURCHASED IT ,AGAIN UPON INSPECTION BY A TOYOTA MECHANIC . HE DEEMED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE FOR TRAVEL ON THE ROAD...VEHICLE HAS ONLY 105000 THOUSAND MILES AND SO FAR TO DATE DEALER H OR TOYOTA HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE ME WITH ALOANER VEHICLE TILL THIS MATTER IS RESOLVED EVEN THOUGHT THEY ARE WELL AWARE THAT THE TUNDRA IN NOT SAFE TO DRIVE SERVICE DIRECTOT WENT AS FAR TO SAY TO ME WELL THE VEHICLE IS 9 YEARS OLD VEHICLES ARE JUNK BY THEN WHAT IS THIS PERSON BEEN SMOKING!!!!!!! BUT ANYWAY MY TUNDRA I HAS A TOTALLY RUSTED FRAME AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR SOME CLOSURE ON THIS MATTER WHAT ARE THE AUTHORITIES DOING ? THE FRONT BRAKES CAUSE THE WHOLE TRUCK TO SHAKE WHILE STOPPING. FIRST SET OF ROTORS WERE INSTALLED FEBRUARY 2010, WITHIN 6 MONTHS SAME PROBLEM. SECOND SET INSTALLED AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAS RETURNED WITHIN 6 MONTHS. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE EVERY 6 MONTHS AND THE TRUCK IS BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

UPON BRINGING MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN TO TOYOTA FOR A OIL CHANGE, THE SERVICE MANAGE INSTRUCTED ME THAT THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK WAS RUSTED. HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT MY TRUCK MAY BE UNSAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. I CHECKED AND SAW YOU HAVE AN OPEN INVESTIGATION PE09-049. *TR
THE REAR OF TRUCK DROPPED AND ONCE CHECKED IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION SHACKLES ROTTED OFF THE FRAME, WHEN TAKEN TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (TARBOX TOYOTA, NORTH KINGSTOWN RI) AN INSPECTION OF THE FRAME WAS CONDUCTED AND THE DEALER STATED THE FRAME HAD ROTTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO THEY THEN GAVE ME THE 800 NUMBER TO TOYOTA CORP. WHEN TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED THEY STATED THAT THEY WILL KEEP MY CASE ON FILE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME AT THIS TIME. *TR
RUSTING FRAME ON 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. DURING NORMAL MAINTENANCE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME HAD A SEVERE RUST ISSUE. THIS WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE MECHANIC HAD TO BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT AS TO NOT DAMAGE THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES AND AT THIS POINT IS ALMOST UN SAFE TO DRIVE. THE REASON FOR THE MAINTENANCE WAS THAT THE SHIFTER CABLE HAD RUSTED THROUGH, NOT ALLOWING ME TO CHANGE GEARS. I WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE TOYOTA TACOMA FRO THIS SAME ISSUE AND FILED A REPORT WITH TOYOTA ON THIS TUNDRA ISSUE. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO OPTIONS. I WON'T SELL A POSSIBLE DANGEROUS CAR TO ANYONE ELSE AND I DOUBT I WOULD GET ANY THING FRO A TRADE. *TR
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I HAVE JUST HAD TO REPLACE BROKEN LEAF SPRINGS FOR THE SECOND TIME. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SWAY BAR LINKS (RUSTED OFF). HAVE EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE FRAME, ESPECIALLY IN REAR. VEHICLE IS IN GOOD SHAPE OTHER THAN THE FRAME AND UNDERBODY CORROSION ISSUES. *TR

1I HAVE OWNED MANY TOYOTA TRUCKS SINCE MY FIRST IN 1987. USUALLY THE BODY WOULD ROT RIGHT OFF THE CHASSIS. NOW THE CHASSIS ROTS RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER THE BODY! HIGHLIGHTS:I PURCHASED A 1984 TRUCK IN 1989 IT HAD A RUSTY BED AND I FIXED IT UP. I PURCHASED A NEW 1997 TACOMA IN SEPTEMBER OF 1996, THE TRUCK HAD FRAME ROT IN MARCH OF 2004, I DOCUMENTED MY COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA IN MARCH OF 2005 WITH TOYOTA MOTOR CORP.THE TOLD ME "THERE IS NO KNOWN FLAW WITH TACOMA FRAMES. I DISAGREED WITH THEM.I SOLD THE TRUCK IN MAY OF 2005 WITH 218000 MILES ON IT WITH A ROTTEN FRAME FOR ONLY $2000, HAD THE CHASSIS HELD UP I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN SOME WHERE AROUND $7000 FOR THE TRUCK CONSIDERING IT SHOULD GO OVER 300,000 MILES AND IT STARTED OUT AS A $22,000 TRUCK. NOW I HAVE A 2000 TUNDRA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND JUST AS BEFORE TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. TELLS ME THE HAVE " NO KNOWN PROBLEM ". *TR
I INITIALLY CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER, 800-331-4331, ON OCTOBER 22, 2009 REGARDING THE FRAME RUSTING ON MY 2000 TUNDRA. I WAS ASKED TO WAIT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND A NOTIFICATION WILL BE SENT. SHE WENT ON TO SAY THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO LOOK UP VIN NUMBER AT THIS TIME. LOOKING BACK, I BELIEVE THAT MY INQUIRY WAS CATEGORIZED WITH THE RECENT TUNDRA REAR FRAME/SPARE TIRE RECALL. ON DECEMBER 10, 2009 I AGAIN CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER, TO NOTIFY THEM THAT I HAD DISCOVERED THAT RUST HAD PERFORATED THE FRAME IN THE FRONT LEFT/DRIVER'S SIDE TORQUE BOX AREA. AS IT HAS BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME, THIS IS THE ENERGY ABSORBING BODY/FRAME STRUCTURE THAT ABSORBS THE IMPACT DURING A CRASH AND IN MY CASE THE FRAME IS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. I NOTED THAT I ASSUMED PERFORATIONS IN THE FRAME ARE NOT SAFE FOR VARIOUS REASONS. I ALSO NOTED THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE FRAME ROT IN THE REAR SPRING AREA. I FURTHER QUESTIONED THE ENTIRE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WITH PICTURES TAKEN AND PERFORATION CONFIRMED. A TOYOTA TECHNICAL REP HAS ALSO CONFIRMED RUST PERFORATION OF THE FRAME. ANY DECISION BY TOYOTA HAS BEEN PUT ON "HOLD".*TR
I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, I WAS TAKEN INTO THE GARAGE AND SHOWN THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK WAS EXTENSIVELY RUSTED. THE CROSS MEMBER IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK WAS RUSTING THROUGH. DEALER WAS CONTACTING TOYOTA AND I DID THE SAME. OPENED A CASE UP WITH TOYOTA. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY ARE DOING ABOUT THIS ALTHOUGH IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM THEY JUST RECALLED THE TACOMA'S FOR. WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALER. WAS TOLD TRUCK MAY BE UNSAFE. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA, WHICH I FEEL IS UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME ROT. THIS TRUCK'S FRAME HAS TO BE THE WORST CASE OF FRAME ROT I'VE EVER SEEN. FAR WORSE THAN I'VE SEEN ON ANY TOYOTA TACOMA THAT WAS RECALLED. BUT, FOR SOME REASON TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE ON THESE TRUCKS. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I WON'T BE ABLE TO PASS A STATE INSPECTION AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. SO THAT LEAVES ME MAKING PAYMENTS ON A TRUCK THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE. OVER THIS PAST SUMMER, I NEEDED TO TRAVEL 500 MILE ROUND TRIPS FOR SEVERAL WEEKENDS FOR MEDICAL REASONS. KNOWING THAT I HAD SOME UNDERBODY CLUNKS GOING ON, I FIGURED I'D INVESTIGATE PRIOR TO MAKING THESE MANY TRIPS. I FOUND THAT THE UPPER SHOCK TOWERS WERE NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK, AND THEY WERE THE CAUSE OF MY CLUNK. I DECIDED TO PULL OFF THE BED OF THE TRUCK TO GET A BETTER ACCESS TO THESE ROTTED SPOTS. ONCE THE BED WAS REMOVED, I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT MY PROBLEM WAS FAR WORSE THAN I IMAGINED. I FOUND 21 ROT HOLES JUST IN THE SIX FOOT SECTION OF FRAME UNDER THE BED. I FOUND THAT MY SHOCK TOWERS HAD PULLED AWAY FROM THEIR FRAME MOUNTS DUE TO RUST. THE SCARIEST FIND WAS THAT THE CROSS MEMBER THAT SUPPORTS THE SPARE TIRE HAD THREE OUT OF THE FOUR MOUNTING CORNERS COMPLETELY ROTTED OFF. HERE'S WHERE I GET CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF PEOPLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME. COULD YOU IMAGINE IF THIS CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE RIM/TIRE FELL OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS? THIS IS THE POINT WHERE I CONTACT MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TELLS ME THAT TOYOTA ISN'T DOING ANYTHING FOR ME AT THIS TIME, AND TO REMAIN PATIENT. FRAME ROT IN 8 YEARS!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? KNOWING THAT I HAVE ALL THIS WEEKLY TRAVEL AHEAD OF ME, I ASKED HIM IF IT WOULD HURT MY FUTURE CHANCES OF A RECALL IF I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY SOME TEMPORARY WELDS TO THE FRAME TO FEEL A LITTLE SAFER IN MY TRAVELS. HE SAID THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE FINE. SOME OF THOSE REPAIRS DID NOT HOLD DUE TO POOR METAL. WHAT MORE CAN I DO? HELP!! *TR
I HAD ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DONE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY FRAME HAS RUST HOLES ROTTED THROUGH IT. IT IS UNSAFE TO PUT A LOAD IN THE TRUCK AND WILL SOON BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT ALL. *TR

FRAME IS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED. AT THE FRAME MEMBER WHERE THE REAR LEAF SPRING IS ATTACHED THE FRAME IS FLAKING AND SEPARATING. IT LOOKS LIKE THE FRAME MEMBER WILL BRAKE LOOSE ANY TIME SEPARATING THE LEAF SPRING FROM THE FRAME. *TR
OUR 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA (WITH ~60,000 MILES) WAS PARKED IT IN MY RELATIVES DRIVEWAY ON 10/18/09. WHEN WE WENT TO DRIVE IT OUT OF MY AUNT'S DRIVEWAY ON 10/18/09, SHE STARTED YELLING, "STOP, SOMETHING IS LEAKING!" LOOKED AT THE FRONT DRIVERS BRAKE LINE AND SAW A HOLE THAT WAS PUSHING OUT BRAKE FLUID WITH HIGH PRESSURE WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THANKFULLY, THE BRAKES FAILED IN THE DRIVEWAY INSTEAD OF ON ROUTE 2 BETWEEN ALBANY, NY AND MASSACHUSETTS. IF THEY FAILED ON THE DRIVE, MY HUSBAND WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THE MOUNTAINOUS ROAD. CAREFULLY DROVE THE TRUCK TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, LIA TOYOTA OF COLONIE ON 10/18/09. TOLD THEM ABOUT THE BROKEN BRAKE LINE AND ASKED FOR A FRAME INSPECTION TO BE DONE FIRST, AS WE DID NOT WANT TO PUT MONEY INTO THE TRUCK IF THE FRAME HAD ISSUES. ON 10/26/09, WE FINALLY RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK AND DOCUMENTATION STATING "THE FRAME HAS NORMAL RUST WEAR FOR THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE" AND "THE FRAME HAS NO PERFORATION AT THIS TIME". THE ESTIMATE SAID THAT THE FRONT DRIVER BRAKE LINES AND JUNCTION BOX WERE RUSTED THROUGH. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PIVOT WAS RUSTED & SEIZED ON BOTH SIDES AND COMPLETELY INOPERABLE, AND THE FRONT SWAY BAR LINK WAS RUSTED THROUGH. SINCE WE WERE TOLD BY LIA TOYOTA OF COLONIE THAT THE FRAME WAS INTACT (NO HOLES) WE AUTHORIZED THE WORK. WE PICKED UP OUR REPAIRED TUNDRA ON 11/02/09 AND KEPT THE OLD PARTS. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT HOLD THE CAR AND NEEDED ADJUSTMENT, SO THE FOLLOWING DAY, 11/3/09, WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALER, COLONIAL TOYOTA OF MILFORD. WE ASKED FOR A BRAKE ADJUSTMENT AND A FRAME INSPECTION. THE NEXT DAY, 11/04/09, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM COLONIAL TOYOTA, SAYING THAT OUR TUNDRA FRAME HAD HOLES IN IT AND WE "SHOULD NOT PUT ANOTHER DIME INTO IT" AND "IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE". COLONIAL SERVICE TOOK PICTURES OF THE PERFORATED FRAME AND CALLED THE TOYOTA REPS, WHO CAME AND LOOKED AT OUR TUNDRA. ON 11/10/09, WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT TOYOTA DECLINED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE OUR FRAME. *TR
SEVERE RUST ON 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA FRAME. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA, AND HAVE FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS WATCHED AS THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK SLOWLY DISENTEGRATES TO WHAT IS NOW VERY THIN METAL, MAINLY (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) FROM THE REAR OF THE CAB REARWARD, IT APPEARS TO BE SEVERE FLAKY RUST THAT COMES OFF IN CHUNKS IN SOME SPOTS. I HAVE EVEN GONE SO FAR AS TO INSTALL A SAFETY TETHER FOR MY SPARE TIRE AS THE BRACKET FOR THE SPARE LOOKS AS IF ITS GOING TO BREAK OFF. COMPARING THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER MAKES AND MODELS IN MY GEOGRAPHIC AREA, I BELIEVE THAT THIS RUST / ROT IS ABNORMAL FOR THE AGE OF THE TRUCK. I AM UNEASY USING THIS TRUCK FOR WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED, (I.E. TOWING MY CAMPER, OR BED FULL OF MULCH). THIS ISSUE ALSO PREVENTS ME FROM SELLING THE TRUCK, WHO WANTS A TRUCK WITH A ROTTED FRAME !! I SHUDDER TO THINK HOW THIS TRUCK WERE TO PERFORM IF I WERE EVER IN AN ACCIDENT. HELP !! *TR
I WENT TO HYANNIS TOYOTA FOR WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND SERVICE MGR TOLD ME DON'T BOTHER BECAUSE FRAME IS ROTTED HE SAID NOT RECOMMENDED TO DRIVE. *TR
UNDERCARRIAGE FRAME RUST EXCESSIVE. *TR
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH 120K MILES IN CONCORD MA. RECENTLY THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A NOISE WHILE TURNING OR HITTING A BUMP. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THE FRAME HAS CORRODED SO BADLY THE TORSION BAR IS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. THE REAR END LEAF SPRING MOUNTS ARE ALSO CLOSE TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA AN RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER (CASE #09102651), WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED 3 DAYS AGO AND HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. ALSO REPORTED THIS TO MY LOCAL DEALER, THEY SAID THEY SHOULD BE CONTACTED BY TOYOTA WITH MY CASE NUMBER, AS OF YET THEY HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED EITHER. THE ONLY REPAIR WILL BE A NEW UNDERCARRIAGE. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE. *TR
I NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUST DECAY ON THE FRAME AND CROSS-MEMBERS WHILE REMOVING MY HITCH BALL LAST FALL. RUST WAS CASCADING OUT FROM ABOVE THE SPARE TIRE AND ALONG THE FRAME AND CROSS-MEMBERS. LATER I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND DETERMINED THERE WAS A RECALL FROM TOYOTA. I HAD CHANGED ADDRESSES SINCE MY ORIGINAL PURCHASE ON JUNE 13, 2000 AND HAD NEVER RECEIVED A WRITTEN NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN JANUARY TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED AND THE SPARE TIRE MOVED TO THE TRUCK BED. I WAS TOLD TOYOTA WOULD HAVE THE FIX TO THE DEALERS BY THE END OF JANUARY. I CALLED BACK AND WAS TOLD NO FIX YET. END OF FEBRUARY - STILL NO FIX. I INSPECTED THE FRAME TODAY. THERE IS TOTAL LOSS AT THE REAR PASSENGER CORNER OF THE REAR CROSS-MEMBER; OTHER THREE CORNERS APPEAR SIGNIFICANTLY RUSTED. ALL CROSS-MEMBERS AND FRAMES REVEAL SIGNIFICANT LOSS FROM RUST - APPROXIMATELY 10-25% OF ORIGINAL FRAME THICKNESS. ALSO EXTENSIVE RUST ON BOTH UPPER SHOCK MOUNTS AND ON SHOCKS THEMSELVES. RUST ON FRAME EXTENDS ALL THE WAY FORWARD TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT AND USED PRIMARILY IN THE SUMMER TO TOW OUR CAMPER - EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALT HAS BEEN MINIMAL, YET THE DAMAGE IS FRIGHTFUL.*TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED ACCESS CAB. IT HAS SEVERE RUST AND ROT COVER MOST OF THE FRAME MEMBERS AND JOINTS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA LAST YEAR AND WAS TOLD THE WERE INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE AND WHEN IT WAS RESOLVED THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM SINCE. IN THE MEANTIME THE VEHICLE POSES A THREAT TO EVERY OTHER MOTORIST ON THE ROAD NOT TO MENTION MY 3 SMALL CHILDREN WHO HAVE TO TRAVEL IN THE VEHICLE OFTEN. I HOPE A RESOLUTION COMES SOON.
