My husband and I were waking up to his alarm that went off at 5 am and he hit the snooze, during the snooze time we heard what sounded like a handgun go off so we both jumped up and opened the door leading to the outside of the house and immediately seen my truck engulfed in flames, the headlights were on and my grandson and husband both got Water hose's and proceeded to put the fire out but it was so hot and we were afraid that the truck would explode if we got any closer. My next door neighbor called 911 and firetruck arrived to finish putting out the fire but the entire truck was completely melted, at least the cab. The firefighter helped get the hood open so that my husband could disconnect the battery because the headlights were still on and the battery was throwing sparks.

DUE TO RUST, O2 SENSORS ARE BAD, EXUAST SYSTEM BAD, LEFT REAR TIRE BALL JOINT DEFECTIVE, EMERGENCY BRAKES DEFECTIVE, BODY FRAME HAS HOLES AT LEFT SIDE, MAJORITY OF FRAME IS RUSTING. PER MECHANICS ALL THIS IS STEMMING FROM THE RUST. TRUCK HAS LOW MILEAGE, FRAME IS CRUMBLING IN SOME PLACES AND IS A DANGER TO DRIVE SAFELY. JUST WENT THROUGH INSPECTION.EXACT DATE IS UNKNOWN AS TO WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
THE OFF-ROAD WIRING HARNESS BOX WAS REPLACED IN 2012 BY RECALL STILL HAVING PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT CAN NOT GET IT TO WORK. TOYOTA SAYS ONLY 1 YR WARRANTY. ALSO TAIL LIGHT BULB WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE KEEPS FALLING OUT SO YOU HAVE NO BACK UP LIGHT OR PARKING LIGHT WHEN FALLS OUT. BOTH HAVE HAD RECALLS BUT STILL DO NOT WORK. WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO DO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ENTERING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED BURNED MARKINGS ON THE INTERIOR HEADLINER WHERE THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS MOUNTED. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERS TO GET MORE INFO... THEY WANTED OVER $100 JUST TO DO THE SAME THING THAT PARTS STORE DID FOR FREE. THEY SAID IT MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, IT MAY HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY, OR IT MAY FAIL. THE FIX MIGHT COST $1,000 OR MORE. DRIVING 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN NORTHERN WYOMING 1 WEEK AGO DURING FREEZING TEMPS. ENGINE SHUT DOWN SHORTLY AFTER STARTING IN THE MORNING LEAVING DRIVER WITH NO POWER TO MANEUVER IN TRAFFIC. VEHICLE SITS IN TRAFFIC UNTIL IDLE SPEED WILL MOVE VEHICLE OUT OF WAY OF OTHER CARS. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN VEHICLE SITS OUT ALL NIGHT IN FREEZING COLD WEATHER. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER EACH TIME AND WE ARE TOLD THIS HAPPENS ON THIS V-8 ENGINE FOR TUNDRA AND LAND CRUISER MFG 1999. DEALER HAS OTHER VEHICLES IN FOR REPAIR AT THIS TIME AND SAYS HE REPLACES SEVERAL EACH YEAR. DEALER SAYS INTAKE MANIFOLD MUST BE REPLACED WITH CORRECTED MANIFOLD. DEALER BELIEVES THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT ATTACHED TO THE MANIFOLD. COST IS TO BE APPROX $1400. DEALER SAYS TO TAKE UP PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA CORP. *NM
