CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS LIT. A FEW WEEKS LATER VSC LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. *TR
RIGHT FRONT TIE ROD STRIPPED OUT AND BECAME SEPARATED FROM RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. *TR
RECEIVE P2440 AND P2441 CODES FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE. *TR
MY TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR 3 DAYS, THEN WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE ALL OF THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON STEADY, AND 4LO LIGHT FLASHED, TRUCK WOULD NOT TRAVEL OVER 30 MPH AND BECAME VERY SLUGGISH. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN ONE WEEK, AND DISCONNECTING BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES CLEARED THE PROBLEM. LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THE PROBLEM IS A "FAILED ACTUATOR ECU ASSEMBLY FAILED COMMUNICATION C1201". COST OF REPAIR IS $2,280.41. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER REPAIR BECAUSE THIS PART IS ONLY COVERED BY THE 3 YEAR/36000 MILE WARRANTY. DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS COMPONENT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE DRIVING THERE IS NO WARNING AND COULD RESULT IN A MULTIPLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. THE ONLY OTHER PART THAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM IS AN AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY WHICH IS NOW REQUIRED TO BE COVERED BY TOYOTA FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. VERY DISCOURAGING TO OWN A TRUCK LESS THAN FIVE YEARS OLD WITH 55,000 MILES AND REQUIRES A $2300 REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,500. UPDATED 03/23/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. UPDATED 05/10/12
TEMPERATURE IN UTICA, NY ON JAN 15 AT 10 AM WAS -10 DEGREES. A 5 HOUR RIDE BACK HOME IN SNOW, DIRT, AND RAIN I TRIED TO OPERATE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID ON THE HIGHWAY 90 WEST. IT WOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE IT WAS FROZEN. AFTER TRYING A COUPLE TIMES MORE, THE VISIBILITY GOT WORSE WITH TEMPERATURES AT 5 DEGREES. HAD TO PULL OVER TO CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD MANY TIMES UNTIL ARRIVING TO 23 DEGREE WEATHER. IT WORKED WHEN I ARRIVED HOME. I ALSO NOTICES THE EXHAUST PIPE THAT SEEMS TO TOUCH THE EXHAUST PIPE HAS BURNT A HOLE IN THE MUD FLAP. THIS HAD HAPPENED SOMETIME BETWEEN MY TRIP TO UTICA ON JAN 14-15. THERE HAS BEEN NO ADD-ON MOD TO THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE MUD-FLAP BUT ARE NOW STICKING TOGETHER. IS THIS A FIRE HAZARD? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE SPIDER WAS RUSTED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A GROWLING NOISE AND HESITATE ABNORMALLY WHEN DRIVEN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GEAR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED IN OIL AND SHOULD NOT RUST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE OVER 45 MPH. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WON'T DO ANYTHING TO RECALL THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON DECEMBER 3, 2011 I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON A PAVED LOCAL ROAD AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE TRUCK JUST DROPPED SEVERAL INCHES AFTER A LOUD SNAP SOUND. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE FRONT WHEEL HAD COME OF THE TRUCK SOMEHOW BECAUSE IT WAS A FAIRLY VIOLENT DROP. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE WHEEL, EVERYTHING LOOKED TO BE IN TACT. NEXT I GOT ON THE GROUND AND NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THAT THE FRONT STRUT HAD SNAPPED IN HALF. I CONSIDERED THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, SO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. THE RESPONSE I GOT WAS... "HOW MANY MILES ARE ON YOUR TUNDRA"? I REPLIED 46,500. THE NEXT RESPONSE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING - WITH NO OTHER INQUIRY INTO THE SITUATION, THE TECHNICIAN SAID, "WELL, YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE 3YR / 36,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE STRUTS SO YOU CAN HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO OUR SHOP AND WE CAN REPLACE IT FOR YOU". I'M THINKING WOW!!! THAT'S THE RESPONSE AFTER I JUST TELL A TOYOTA SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT A FACTORY PART JUST RANDOMLY FAILED AND COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NEXT I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL HOTLINE FOR TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WOULD BE DOCUMENTED AND THANKED ME FOR CALLING IN WITH MY CONCERN. THIS IS MY 3RD TUNDRA AND I'VE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS BEFORE. ALL IN ALL, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT A MAJOR COMPONENT LIKE A STRUT FAILED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTING IS THE REACTION I RECEIVED FROM BOTH MY LOCAL DEALER AND THE NATIONAL CUSTOMER HOTLINE. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE STRUT FAILED? I RECOMMEND EVERY GEN 2 TUNDRA OWNER TAKE A LOOK AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SEE ANY KIND OF STRESS CRACKS, OR ANYTHING THAT LOOKS ODD WITH YOUR FRONT STRUTS. FOR THE RECORD - I DON'T OFFROAD OR DRIVE MY TRUCK HARD....AND ALL MAINTENANCE IS UP TO DATE AND DOCUMENTED! *TR
ON 10-30-11 AT APPROXIMATELY 4:35 PM I PARKED MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA IN FRONT OF STEVE'S SMALL ENGINE, A BUSINESS LOCATED IN MONSON MA. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE TRUCK ACCELERATOR STUCK OPEN AND THE TRUCK LEAPED AHEAD WHILE I HAD MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD PUSH IT TOWARD THE FLOOR. MY VEHICLE STRUCK A PARKED PICKUP TRUCK IN THE TAILGATE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE MONSON POLICE DEPT. AND REPORTED THE EVENT. THE MONSON POLICE RESPONDED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
THE ABS ACTUATOR FAILED ON MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHICH CAUSES ALL MY DASH FUNCTION TO FAIL, NO ANTILOCK BRAKES, NO 4X4, SPEEDOMETER INOPERABLE. COST FOR REPAIRS. $2500. TRUCKS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT RE-ALIGN ONCE THE TURN WAS COMPLETED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A WORN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND PERFORMED THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,358 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,100.
DRIVING ALONG APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR PEDAL SLIGHTLY TOOK FOOT OFF PEDAL VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INCREASING SPEED. I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED BRAKE PLACING VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL THEN AGAIN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AND RELEASING IT. THE ENGINE REVVED BACK TO NORMAL. I THEN PLACED IT BACK INTO DRIVE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED SINCE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE IN 2007. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT SINCE TOYOTA HAD HONORED THE RECALL RELATING TO THE ACCELERATOR AND FIXED IT, I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TODAY AND WILL BE TAKING MY TRUCK IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT TOMORROW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 25 TO 30 MPH A GROWLING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT BE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE REAR AXLE OR DIFFERENTIAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,396 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD CLICKING NOISE. I WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE. I WENT HOME, THE TRUCK WOULDN'T START AGAIN.MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAD AN "ENGINE FAILURE" AT 62000 MILES. FIRST THEY SAID $23,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE. THEN AFTER MONTHS AND MANY HOURS ON THE PHONE, THEY TOOK THE ENGINE APART TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO TOYOTA. THEY SAID A VALVE OR VALVE SPRING FELL THROUGH AND TORE EVERYTHING UP. IT NEEDED A NEW SHORT BLOCK AND RIGHT HEAD ($14,000). TOYOTA ADMITTED 100% FAULT AND SAID BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS 2000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WILL COVER ONLY 50% UNDER " GOODWILL ASSISTANCE" . SO I BOUGHT THE MOTOR TREND TRUCK OF THE YEAR ( BRAND NEW) AND HAD TO TAKE OUT A LOAN FOR $7000 TO GET THE ENGINE FIXED. I WAS OUT A VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WOULD NOT PROPERLY OPERATE IN A FLASHING MODE TO ALERT THE DRIVER OF LOW TIRE AIR PRESSURE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT NOT TO BE CONCERNED WITH THE OPERATIONAL ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V148000 (TIRES: PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS). THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE WHEN THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED THEY WOULD NOT INFORM HIM. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER CONCERNING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000. ..UPDATED 09/15/11 *BF THE TPMS WOULD NOT RESET WHEN THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. UPDATED 09/26/11
THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, WHICH REDUCES ENGINE POWER MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FROM THE EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILING. WHEN REPAIRED BY DEALER THEY ALSO DISCOVERED A CRACKED MANIFOLD. THIS EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILURE SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON ON 2008 TUNDRAS AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. TO MY SURPRISE THE MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED AND THAT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE EMISSIONS VALVE SET FAILURE. TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THEIR EMISSIONS VALVE SET AND REDESIGN IT SO IT DOES NOT FAIL, AND IS LESS EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE, AND FINALLY THEY SHOULD NOT PROGRAM THE ENGINE TO GO INTO LIMP MODE IF THIS FAILURE OCCURS, AS IT CAN CAUSE YOU TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING IN VARIOUS CONDITIONS THAT REQUIRE POWER TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY.
EMISSIONS VALVE AND RELATED PUMPS FAILED CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT LOSS IN POWER. THIS HAPPENED WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY IN UPSTATE VERMONT. SUDDENLY MY TRUCK LOST SIGNIFICANT POWER, AND WOULD RAPIDLY DECELARATE EVERYTIME I APPROACH A POSITIVE GRADE IN THE ROAD. SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE TRIP I SLOWED DOWN FASTER THAN CARS BEHIND ME EXPECTED, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT WARN THEM AS IT WAS DUE TO THE TRUCK LOSING POWER, AND NOT ME BRAKING. IN ADDITION DUE TO THE LOCATION I WAS AT I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A DEALER FOR SEVERAL MILES. WHEN THE CODES WERE PULLED FOR THE SERVICE ENGINE IT APPEARED AS CODE P2442 (SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP SYSTEM SWITCHING CALVE STUCK OPEN BNKS) *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON IN ORDER FOR IT TO RESET ITSELF AND BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL). AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS TOO SHORT AND HIS FOOT WOULD SLIP OFF OF THE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER REPAIRS THAT COULD BE PERFORMED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,054. UPDATED 09/02/11*LJ UPDATED 09/14/11*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THEIR VEHICLE AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE PLUG USED TO HAUL A TRAILER NO LONGER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE DESIGN OF THE NEW PLUG WAS WIDER AND IT CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL CABLE TO HANG FROM THE TRAILER LIGHTS. THE ELECTRICAL CABLES WOULD ALSO DETACH FROM CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO HAVE ELECTRICITY TO THE TRAILER THAT WAS BEING HAULED. THE CONTACT ASKED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE OLD DESIGN BUT THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY NO LONGER HAD THEM. THE FAILURE PREVENTED THE TAIL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS FROM WORKING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
TRUCK WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE AND THE VSC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE "TRACTION" LIGHT ALL CAME ON. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE TO GET A READ OUT AND IT HAD A P2442 FOR A SUBARU, BUT WAS FIGURED TO BE THE ASV (AIR SWITCH VALVE) OR THE AIP (AIR INDUCTION PUMP) ON BANK 2. CONSIDERING THAT MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH 62000 MILES AND ALL THE FORUM AND WEBSITES THAT I HAVE BEEN TO THAT TOLD ME IT WOULD CAST ANY WHERE FROM 1000 TO 5000 BUCKS TO FIX, I CHECKED IT OUT MYSELF. THE ASV ON THE DRIVER SIDE HAS A METAL PLATE THAT IS BROKEN AND IS KEEPING THE VALVE OPENED. I HAVE CALLED A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHEN THE PARTS COULD BE IN BECAUSE OF THE TSUNAMI IN JAPAN. I AM VERY UPSET AS TO THIS ISSUE AS I AM NOT ABLE TO BYPASS THE IT AND GET MY TRUCK RUNNING CORRECTLY. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND MAKE A RECALL ON THESE PUMPS AND VALVES. I WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE ISSUES IS THAT WATER GETS IN THE PIMPS. I CANNOT SEE HOW WATER IS GETTING IN THESE PUMPS AND VALVES AS THEY ARE ENCLOSED. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED. *TR
I HAVE 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT HAS DEVELOPED A REAREND WHINE/HOWLING NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA AND THE TECHNICIAN QUICKLY TOLD ME THAT MY LEFT REAR BEARING IS BAD. I HAVE LEARNED THAT TOYOTA HAS A PROBLEM WITH TUNDRA REARENDS AND WILL NOT ACT. THERE ARE MANY POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS ISSUE. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. I AM AT THE POINT OF NEEDING LEGAL ASSISTANCE AS WELL. *TR
2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 5.7 4X4. VSC/4HI/4LO/ABS/BRAKE LIGHTS ALL START FLASHING. HAVE BROUGHT TO DEALER 3 TIMES. HAVE 88,500 MILES ON TRUCK. WARRENTY RUNS OUT AT 100,000. DEALER STATES THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM. SHOWED THEM ONLINE ARTICLES OF SAME VEHICLE WITH SAME ISSUES AND HOW IT WAS RESOLVED. THEY REFUSE BECUASE THERE IS NO CODE. *TR

WE WERE OUT OF TOWN WHEN 3 LIGHTS ON THE DASH APPEARED. TRACTION , ENGINE AND VSB. NO DEALERSHIP IN TOWN WHERE WE WERE. MY HUSBAND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT RESET. DIDN'T SEE THE LIGHTS FOR THREE WEEKS, JUST CAME BACK ON AFTER SITTING UP ALL NIGHT. DEALERSHIP SAID $600, THANK GOODNESS I GOT EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHEN YOU ACCELERATED TO 30MPH IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT RIGHT. AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 60MPH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BED WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 168,400.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT COULD NOT ACCELERATE PASS 35 MPH. THE 2007/2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS A DESIGN DEFECT WITH ITS AIR INJECTION PUMP THAT ALLOWS THE PUMP TO INJEST WATER WHEN DRIVING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD IN RAINY WEATHER ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN THE WATER IS THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE SWITCHING VALVES. THE VEHICLE WILL LOOSE SPEED RAPIDLY ON A MEDIUM GRADE WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSES THE TRANMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT REPEATEDLY TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEED. IN ADDITION THE VEHICLE STABLIZATION CONTROL IS DISABLED. THIS CONDITION ALSO SHORT CIRCUITS AND DISABLES 4W DRIVE AND CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. THE INABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED OR TO ACCELERATE CREATES A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED TWICE AT A COST OF $1600. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO OCCUR BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW. I STOPPED TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON STEADY. I PUSHED IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THEN RELEASED. STILL BRAKE LIGHT ON. I DROVE FOR COUPLE OF HOURS WITH LIGHT ON. I WAS UNDER MY TRUCK DOING A GENERAL INSPECTION AND NOTICED THAT MY LEFT REAR TRD BILSTIEN SHOCK WAS LEAKING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WITHOUT HESITATION THEY ORDERED THE PART WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE TRUCK. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TOYOTA HAD ORDERED A STANDARD SHOCK AND NOT A BILSTIEN SHOCK, SO I PICKED MY TRUCK BACK UP FROM THEM UNTIL THEY GOT THE CORRECT PART. A FEW DAYS LATTER I NOTICED A KNOCK COMING FROM MY TRUCK AND WHEN I HAD ISOLATED THE KNOCK I IDENTIFIED IT AS THE LEFT STRAP ON MY TRD SWAY BAR KIT. WHAT I CONCLUDED IS THAT THE LEFT REAR SHOCK LEAKING CAUSED TOO MUCH TRAVEL. I TOLD WALTER THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS PRESSING ON THE REAR BREAK LINE AND HAD BENT IT UPWARDS AND WAS NOW LEANING AGAINST THE REAR BREAK LINE. AT NO TIME DID WALTER ADVISE ME TO TAKE THE TRUCK IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I FINALLY GOT TO SCARED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AND TOOK IT TOO TOYOTA AND ADVISED THEM THAT IT WAS TO MUCH OF A SAFETY ISSUED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. I ASKED WALTER TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE SWAY BAR AND HE SAW THE ISSUE. I GENTLY ROLLED BACK DOWN THE HILL AND GOT THE VEHICLE ON THE LEVEL AND THEN TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE. ITS NOT THE FLOOR MATS OR THE SIZE OF THE PEDAL IT IS IN THE WIRING, COMPUTER, OR SOMETHING. BOTH INCIDENTS WERE FORTUNATE THAT NO VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR BEHIND ME. I CALLED TOYOTA TODAY ABOUT THIS SECOND INCIDENT AND ALL THEY COULD TELL ME WAS TO CALL THE 1 800 NUMBER. I EXPLAINED I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE, KNOWING THAT IM PUTTING MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY IN HARMS WAY.
