The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine waning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of secondary error in the injection system caused by water intrusion. The contact was also informed that there was a recall on the vehicle however, the vehicle had exceeded the mileage limitation. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 219,000.
1. The secondary air injection valve and/or air injection pump. 2. Sometimes the vehicle will go into "limp" mode and only go 35 mph. If the switch valve is stuck "closed" like mine, the car may not be able to dilute the exhaust fumes and the fumes and travel into the cabin of the vehicle. 3. Yes, check engine light code was read as P2441. 4. No, the vehicle can not be driven at this time. 5. No, and around July 24th the check engine light came on. The symptoms continued to get worse. In short, Toyota has issued extended warranties and reimbursements for this design flaw for Tunda's 2007-2010. The design flaw being the air pumps allow water and debris to be sent into the air injection valves. My truck being a 2011 was never alerted to this issue or covered due to the year of my vehicle. The issue is my truck is the SAME generation truck as the 2007-2010 trucks. Which means I too have the design flaw as well but Toyota is refusing to fix their mistakes. After further inspection of my truck, see attached pictures, there is obvious water in the valve system and it has been rusted as well (unable to clean it). My issue is Toyota only covering half of the generational years for a design flaw that is also in the other half. These repairs can range from $2k-$4k and it seems as Toyota only made the extension to the most relevant truck years at the time and left everyone else behind. It is very distributing that a large manufacturer would cut corners like this, for a flaw that was their design.

The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the passenger’s side cam-tower was leaking oil and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 32,000.
Well known issue with V8 Air intake pump and assembly causes truck to go into limp mode. Very dangerous in Atlanta traffic. Toyota enhanced warranty but did not recall. My repair was $3000 as I was 3 weeks out of warranty.
UNDER BULLETIN POL17-02, MY TRUCK FALLS UNDER THE PROGRAM 10 YEARS AND 150,000 MILES. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISE MY TRUCK ISN'T COVERED. I HAD THE PROBLEMS THAT WAS INDICATED UNDER THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM. I HAD THE TRUCK REPAIRED AND I AM LOOKING FOR A REIMBURSEMENT CONSIDERATION
THE AIR PUMP WAS FAILED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AROUND 22,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED AT LOW SPEED 10MPH TO DEALER. IT WAS FIXED. RIGHT NOW AT 27,300 MILE TOWER CAM SEAL WAS LEAKED AND OIL WAS DRIPPED ON EXHAUST WITH SMELL AND SMOKED IN COLD DAYS. IT IS VERY SCARY DANGER. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ABOUT MY TRUCK. I DID CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE FOR RECALL, BUT THEY DENIED! THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE CAM TOWER SEAL IS LEAKED BUT IT IS STARTING DRIPPING MORE NOW. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO DEALER AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME TO CALL THEM AGAIN. TOYOTA CORPORATE KEEP DENYING!! I URGED TOYOTA COMPANY IMMEDIATELY TAKE CARE OF THEIR FAIL PRODUCT. IT MAY GET FIRE BECAUSE THE OIL DRIPPING ON THE EXHAUST, PASSENGER SIDE. PLEASE SERIOUSLY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM.
VEHICLE HAS DEVELOPED A CAM TOWER LEAK DUE TO IMPROPER SEALING OF MATING SURFACES DURING ENGINE ASSEMBLY CAUSING OIL TO LEAK ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS CAUSING A POTENTIAL FOR ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE ACCORDING TO SERVICING DEALER. VEHICLE HAS LESS THE 45,000 MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR SERVICE BY AUTHORIZED DEALER. DEALER REPRESENTATIVE STATES THAT IF PROBLEM PERSISTS VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS STATE MANDATED SAFETY INSPECTION. OIL BURNING CAN BE SMELLED WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE.COSTS TO REPAIR ARE QUOTED AT $3296 PLUS TAXES.

VALVE SPRING FAILURE AT 136,124 MILES WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. TRUCK RAN FINE, NO PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS, EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED END OF LAST YEAR. STILL FINANCED AND OWE OVER 13,000 FOR TRUCK. MOTOR RUINED .
MY TRUCK IS SMOKING WHILE DRIVING AS IF TO CATCH ON FIRE FROM THE CAM TOWER SEALS LEAKING . THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS JANUARY 14 2018.THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND FIRE HAZARD. I HAD MY GRAND KIDS IN THE TRUCK AT THE TIME, ONE HAS LUEKEMIA. I DON'T WANT IT TO BURN US ALL UP IN THE TRUCK. CAM TOWER SEAL WAS LEAKING FROM BOTH SIDES. THEY ALSO FOUND VALVE COVER WAS LEAKING AS WELL. THIS WAS A GREAT SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO FIRE HAZARD. FACTORY DEFECT DUE TO INSUFFICIENT SEAL APPLIED TO THE MATTING SURFACES. DEFECT NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF PLEASE.
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST PROPULSION POWER RESULTING IN VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN AND ALMOST CREATING AN ACCIDENT FROM BEHIND. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED VIA A OBD2 CODE CHECKER WHICH RESULTED IN CODE P2442. AFTER VERIFYING CODE, IT LOOKS AS IF IT IS A FAULTY AIR INTAKE. LOOKING THROUGH SEVERAL SOURCES ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR REPAIR. PLEASE TAKE THIS ISSUE INTO CONSIDERATION AND HELP THE CONSUMER. FUEL PROPULSION SYSTEM I PURCHASED MY 2011 TUNDRA QUARTER END 2011. IT HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED BY THE DEALER. LATE MAY 2017 E LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED. I LEARNED THAT I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM. THE ESTIMATED COST OF THE REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT $3,000
CAM TOWER SEAL PROBLEMS CURRENTLY MY TUNDRA IS HAVING A CAMSHAFT TOWER SEALS PROBLEM/GASKET. I THOUGHT MY TRUCK WAS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE SEVERAL TIMES WITH MY GRAND KIDS INSIDE WHILE DRIVING.'.WITH IT SMOKING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR A TOYOTA. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE STOPPED BY NOW, BUT IT HAS NOT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. IN DOING MY RESEARCH, WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS A BIG REPAIR JOB AS IT REQUIRES DISMANTLING PART OF THE ENGINE; THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YEAR THAT I CURRENTLY OWN (2011). THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL OTHER MODEL YEARS THAT IT IS ALSO HAPPENING AS WELL (2011-13), IN WHICH AGAIN CAN CAUSE THE TRUCK TO CATCH FIRE, HARMING OR EVEN KILLING SOMEONE. IF NOT COMPLETED NOW OR TAKE ANY ACTION, TOYOTA COULD LOSE MONEY. YOU COULD EVEN STOP LAWSUITS THAT WILL BE FORTHCOMING WITH THIS ISSUE IF SOMEONE IS HARMED OR EVEN KILLED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!! THIS IS MY SIXTH TOYOTA PURCHASE. THE MAIN REASONS FOR ME CHOOSING TOYOTA OVER FORD, GM, ETC. ARE QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO FIX MY ISSUE AT NO COST TO ME AND MAYBE RECALL THIS ERROR THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE AWARE OF ON THESE MODEL TUNDRA TRUCKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY EGR VALVES WERE FAULTY DUE TO CORROSION AND MOISTURE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 10/13/16*LJ
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND MY TUNDRA WOULD NOT GO PAST 20 MPH. I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY AND HAD TO PULL OFF/EXIT. I BROUGHT IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER FOR AN AUTHORIZE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR. MY SECONDARY INJECTION VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE BACK IN JANUARY 2016 AND THE QUOTE PRICE WAS $2860 FROM MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. TOYOTA DID NOT COVER THE FAULTY INJECTION UNTIL A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT LETTER CAME OUT IN AUGUST 2017 FOR OWNER'S TO SUBMIT PAPERWORK. THIS MAY AFFECT OTHER TOYOTA TUNDRA AND SEQUOIA MODEL AS WELL.

VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40MPH. THIS OCCURRED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED IT WAS AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH MASTER MECHANIC AND A SERVICE MANAGER I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED IT EARLIER MODELS UP TO AND INCLUDING 2010 TUNDRA WHERE TOYOTA TOOK CARE OF THE REPAIR . BUT THEY CONTINUED TO USE THIS PART UNTIL LATE 2011. MY TRUCK WAS DELIVERED IN FALL OF 2010 AND HAD THE OLDER STYLE PART. THEY CHANGED THE PART DESIGN AND NOW IT PREVENTS MOISTURE TO ENTER THE PUMP AND PREVENTS CORROSION WHICH CAUSED PUMP FAILURE. THE ORIGINAL PART HAD FLARED HEAD TUBING AND NO SEAL THE NEW DESIGN HAS A SEALED TUBE END. TOYOTA NEW THIS WOULD FAIL YET THEY DID NOT MAKE THE RECALL I HAVE REQUESTED A REIMBURSEMENT BUT THE HAVE SO FAR FAILED TO DO SO THIS COST ME OVER $2400 THIS EXPENSE SHOULD BE ENTIRELY ON TOYOTA
CONSUMING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1K MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE! MY ENGINE AT THE TIME I DISCOVERED THIS ONLY HAD 50K MILES ON IT. IF I WAIT UNTIL MY NEXT SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE (5K-10K) MY ENGINE WILL FAIL DUE TO LOW LEVEL OF OIL LEFT, IF ANY.
