My factory stock Toyota painted steel wheels rotted and I had a 6 inch long area rusted through inside the rim losing air. I was advised by my tire center ,that i took it to ,that was not safe to drive on. I called my local Toyota dealer service manager and was told it was road corrosion and was not under any warranty. What would of happened if I had been on the highway and had a rapid deflation of the tire or what if the wheel broke and came apart. The truck has no rust. I replaced all 4 wheels the very next day. These wheels should be recalled and inspected and replaced if needed before someone gets hurt.
Secondary Air injection pumps went bad
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the horn failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided the same information as provided by the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
While driving at various speeds (25mph or 65mph) I let off on the accelerator to either slow down or come to a stop, when accelerating again I get a check engine light and I have no power. I limp along for several minutes then all of a sudden the fuel pedal sensor that tells the ecu where the fuel pedal is at catches up and I’m able to continue on with my ride. This is a very dangerous situation to have happen because you are not expecting it and when it does happen it is very unnerving. I’ve spoken to various Toyota dealers and there seems to be a nonchalant attitude about it.
Mechanic stated that the secondary air injection system is a common problem in this generation of Tundra.. I have had my check engine light come on 3 different times and addressed each by replacing all the sensors to the secondary air injection system. My mechanic is a Toyota dealer mechanic. My issue is that my car has lost power to accelerate at highway speeds and came close to causing and accident. I am now at my third attempt at replacing now the actual pump. I understand that Toyota has replaced the gooseneck part where the hose is attaches to the pump. This tells me that there was a problem or else why would they change a good thing? Is there a warranty for this part?
Backup camera cuts in and out. When put in reverse only shows a blue screen. checked connections and seems to happen mostly when it rains.
It would crank but not start
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle in for inspection, the vehicle failed the inspection. The contact was informed that a failure with the air injection pump had been detected. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
Steering has gone out twice in 2 months. Rack and pinion had to be replaced.
Cam tower leaks oil on the heat shield below it. Cam tower uses rtv rubber seal instead of a gasket. The rubber deteriorates and the cam tower leaks engine oil on the heat shield. Not clear why Toyota used form in place rubber material instead of real gasket. Repair however is major. Need to take apart engine to repair. Major repair. The fix is to replace it with the same material again. Which is subject to deteriorate again. This is a know issue on the 5.7 L engine. Toyota seems to have its head in the sand hoping they shouldn’t be forced to recall. However this is a know design flaw resulting in leaking oil on the heat shield. With no Toyota recommended new design or parts repair except to do it all over again and hope it doesn’t leak again it’s ridiculous. . Terrible design that leaks oil on the heat shield.
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle and steering wheel started shaking. The contact pulled over safely and inspected the vehicle and noticed there was power steering fluid leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as an engine leak. There was initially no warning light illuminated; however, after arriving home, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
Plastic piece and spring have ejected from the seat belt receiver and now the receiver does not latch on to the seat belt when it is inserted into the receiver (driver side but could happen to any/all). The seat belt no longer buckles.
We are a surveying company with a fleet of 35 Toyota Tundra trucks. Two of the trucks in our Denver location have had the engine wiring harness chewed and destroyed by rodents in the parking lot. Each is costing $6,500 to repair. The second truck shorted out and the check engine lights came on, would not start. I am glad this did not fail while someone was driving it. Toyota uses a flexible pipe wrap over some of this wiring that is soy based; the plastic wrapped wiring is unaffected. This problem is well documented on the internet, and very common. Toyota is profiting in a big way from this design defect, and they are compromising safety by risking engine failures due to shorts. They should be forced to install hard plastic wire covers over these harness wires to prevent this damage.
Toyota frame rusting recall is cut off at 2010. I have a 2013 that the bed is rusting out because of the plastic Toyota branded beds the factory installed when it was new. The frame and rear axle also show rusting. I am paying out if pocket to stay safe.
In 2017 while driving home from a restaurant with my husband, mother and sister when on highway 60 in Show Low Arizona we started experiencing a shaking which seemed to come from the from end of the truck. Since we were only a short distance from home we slowly made our way down the side road. As soon as we turned into our driveway the truck came to a quick stop. We jumped out and found that the passenger front tire and rim had separated from the truck. A full bed tow truck came and took the truck to Hatch Toyota in Show Low Arizona. The second incident occurred last year (2021) while we were moving to Sarcoxie Missouri. My husband was on Interstate 40 just east of Albuquerque when he experienced the truck shaking and upon immediately pulling off to the side of the road noted the left front wheel and rim had separated from the vehicle. The truck was taken to the Albuquerque Toyota for repair. I am having the rims replaced at this time as I understand that after-market rims may be the cause. I would really like to know for sure. I would not want to trade this truck in for fear of another family being harmed.
The contact owned a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle had run a red light and crashed into the front grill assembly of the contact's vehicle then the other vehicle spun and crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. The contact's front driver seat moved inadvertently towards the steering wheel but the seat belt did not prevent the contact's neck, chest, and stomach from slamming into the steering wheel. The contact heard a loud bang and the air bags deployed, filling the inside of the vehicle with a powder substance. The contact and passenger were transported to the hospital by ambulance with injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened but the manufacturer informed the contact that there was no recall for the air bags associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 72,120. Consumer stated driver airbag exploded before it could inflate. Driver was injured.
MY SEAT BELT LATCH QUIT WORKING THE PLASTIC PIECE AND SPRING CAME UP OUT OF THE LATCH. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for repairs, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was an independent dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 84,00 and upon inspection at a local dealer, it was discovered that the mileage was 175,000.
TURNED HEADLIGHT SWITCH TO "ON" POSITION BUT LIGHTS DID NOT TURN ON. TURNED SWITCH "OFF" AND BACK "ON" AND LIGHTS STILL DID NOT WORK. WIGGLED THE SWITCH AROUND SOME AND THE LIGHTS CAME ON. TRUCK WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING ONE NIGHT AND TURNED MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL ON AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO WIGGLE THE SWITCH AROUND AND GET THEM TO COME BACK ON TO MAKE THE TURN. WHEN I PARKED I TURNED THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ON AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. IT SEEMS THERE IS A SHORT SOMEWHERE IN THE SWITCH.
#4 INTAKE VALVE SPRING BROKE AND CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE
ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I WAS DRIVING MY TUNDRA ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX. 70 MPH. MY TRUCK LOST POWER AND I ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS ON BOTH INSTANCES SINCE I COULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH. I HAD TO MANAGE MY WAY OUT OF THE FREEWAY TO A SAFE PLACE. 2TWO DIAGNOSTICS WERE PERFORMED AND I RECEIVED CODES P0418, P1604, C1241, P2445, P2441. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH A FAULTY SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PUMP AND OTHER COMPONENTS RELATED TO THE SYSTEM AND I WAS PROVIDED A REPAIR COST OF OVER $3,000 DOLLARS. I WAS LATER INFORMED, AND I DISCOVERED THROUGH RESEARCH, THAT TOYOTA HAD INSTALLED FAULTY/DEFECTIVE AIR PUMPS IN THOUSANDS OF TUNDRAS 2013'S LIKE THE ONE THAT I OWN. I REACHED OUT TO CORPORATE OFFICE BUT THEY STATED THAT MY VIN NUMBER SOMEHOW DID NOT "QUALIFY" AS ONE OF THE AFFECTED PICKUPS. MY TUNDRA ONLY HAS 60K MILES AND I USE IT TO COMMUTE FROM AND TO WORK BASICALLY. I PERFORM ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH A DEFECTIVE SECONDARY AIR PUMP SYSTEM THAT TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX. MY TRUCK IS A LIABILITY ON THE ROAD AND THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. IT LOOSES POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ACTIVATES. TOYOTA RECALLED THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES LIKE MINE AND FIXED THEM AFTER THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY HAD PLACED FAULTY AIR PUMP SYSTEMS. MY TRUCK IS A POTENTIAL POSSIBLE CAUSE FOR AN ACCIDENT SINCE IT UNPREDICTABLY LOOSES POWER ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A SOLUTION FROM HEADQUARTERS/CORPORATE OFFICE TO REPAIR MY TRUCK AT NO PRICE SINCE IT IS AFFECTED BY THEIR FAULTY PUMPS. THEY DID OFFER $750 DOLLARS TOWARDS THE COST OF PARTS, MEANING THAT I HAVE TO COME OUT WITH OVER $2000K OUT OF POCKET. I NEED TOYOTA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX MY TRUCK.
INTERMITTENT ENGINE, TRAC CONTROL LIGHTS AND 4WD LO LIGHT FLASHING WHEN DRIVING DOWN ROAD
MY 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCK ( 74,734 MILES) SUDDENLY HAD ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN INCLINE AT 48 MPH. I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. AFTER EVENTUALLY PULLING THE WHEEL WITH MUCH EFFORT AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE KEY AND THE ENGINE STARTED RIGHT AWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN BUT ONLY AT A REDUCED SPEED OF 40 MPH OR LESS ( IT'S CALLED "LIMP" MODE) MY MECHANIC DIAGNOSED IT AS A SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS ON SEVERAL TUNDRA OWNER MESSAGE BOARDS, I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE TUNDRA TRUCKS AT AROUND 75000 MILES. THE TOYOTA DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM AND LOOKED UP MY VIN NUMBER TO SEE IF IT QUALIFIED FOR A WARRANTY EXTENSION PROGRAM THAT TOYOTA HAS OFFERED FOR SOME 2012 AND 2013 TUNDRA TRUCKS. UNFORTUNATELY MY VIN NUMBER WAS A FEW NUMBERS BEYOND THE EXTENSION PROGRAM. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING THE TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I AM NOT SO SURE SHE WOULD HAVE HAD THE STRENGTH TO SAFELY BRING THE TRUCK UNDER CONTROL AND GET IT OFF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I WANT TOYOTA TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THIS FAULTY PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY ADMITTED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART AND SHOULD EXTEND IT TO ALL TOYOTA TRUCK OWNERS WITH THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. NOT JUST A SELECT FEW. *TR
HORN DOES NOT WORK WHEN A ROAD HAZARD WAS PRESENTED ATTEMPTED TO UTILIZE HORN NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I TOOK TO TOYOTA THEY SAID IT IS THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE AIRBAG AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND IS NOT A RECALL BUT WHEN I LOOK UP ONLINE MANY PEOPLE FOR YEARS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS PROBLEM WAS SENT AWAY DRIVING MY VEHICLE WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE UNSAFE AS IF I DON'T HAVE AIRBAGS OR A HORN NOT SURE THAT MY VEHICLE IS LEGAL TO BE DRIVEN AT THIS POINT I FEEL THAT SINCE THESE ARE SAFETY ISSUES THEY SHOULD BE RECALLS AS IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE I HAVE ONLY OWNED MY TRUCK SINCE DECEMBER I PICKED IT UP AT THE VERY END OF DECEMBER 2019. *TR
HARD TO START JUST CRANKS USUALLY STARTS AFTER 3 TRIES I TRIED TURNING THE KEY ON AND WAITING A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT FIRES UP WHEN DRIVING HAS NO POWER WHEN ACCELERATING
THE TRUCK AT ONLY 60,000 MILES HAS A FAULTY CAM TOWER SEAL LEAK THAT CAUSES OIL TO DRIP ONTO THE EXHAUST WITH POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE TO STRIKE THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND ROLL AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANDERSON TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 6510 SHOWPLACE AVE, LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ 86404, (928) 764-2886) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,035.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE TRUCK ALL OF SUDDEN LOOSES POWER AND. DASH WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND I HAVE EXTREMELY HARD TIME GETTING TRUCK TO SIDE OF ROAD SAFETY WITHOUT POWER. TOOK TO SHOP SAID I HAD AIR INJECTION PUMP WATER INTRUSION AND IT WAS COMMON ISSUES WITH MOST OF TUNDRA THEY HAVE RECALLED EARLY YEARS BEFORE MINE AND IT'S A $4000 BILL MY TRUCK HAS 120000 MILES ON IT. PLEASE HELP
TRUCK STOPPED EXCELLERATING. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS IN SAFE MODE DUE TO THE AIR INJECTION VALUES HAD WATER IN THEM. IT WILL COST $2336.00 TO FIX IT. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED.
AT ONLY 64000 MILES MY 2013 PLATINUM TUNDRA HAS A CAM TOWER LEAK. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP.
CAM TOWER OIL LEAKS ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE - OIL LEAKING ONTO TO MANIFOLD CAUSING SMOKE - POSSIBLE FIRE RISK - NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WENT UNANSWERED, FINALLY DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER, HOWEVER TOYOTA NOT WILLING TO FIX AS VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY - THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE!!
I HAVE NOTICED PREVIOUS RECALLS FROM OLDER MODEL TOYOTA TRUCKS DUE RUST OCCURRING TO FRAMES AND BEDS. CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY 2013 TUNDRA SPECIFIC TO THIS. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS LIKE THE FRAME RUST ISSUES CONTINUED PAST THE EARLIER RECALL. MY TRUCK IS 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH APPROX 35,000 MILES. THERE IS RUST ON THE FRAME AND BUBBLING THROUGH MY TRUCK BED LINER. FROM FORBES I NOTICED THERE WAS A $3.4 BILLION RECALL FOR TOYOTA TRUCKS AND SUVS FROM 2005-2010. FROM FURTHER RESEARCH ON VARIOUS FORUMS, I NOTICED OTHERS HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. I SPOKE TO TOYOTA, THEY STATED THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY YEAR TRUCK. I WILL SHARE SOME PHOTOS FROM RUST BUBBLING THROUGH THE TRUCK BED. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE. I REALLY AM UNSURE THE NEXT COARSE OF ACTION. THE AIR INJECTION PUMP IS DEFECTIVE AND ALLOWS CONDENSATION AND OR MOISTURE WHICH LEADS TO TOTALLY FAILURE. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT 1100.00 DOLLARS FOR ONE SIDE NOW THE OTHERSIDE IS FAILING..THIS FAILURE CAUSED THE TRUCK TO LACK ANY GET UP WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. IT WANTS TO STALL.
TRUCK HAS ISSUES WITH DELAYED STARTING. MOTOR WILL TURN OVER BUT WILL NOT START IMMEDIATELY FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. HAVE TO TURN ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE SUCCESSFUL START. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP AND THIS COULD BE CRITICAL WHILE DRIVING AS THE PUMP MIGHT FAIL AT SPEED CAUSING COMPLETE POWER LOSS. ISSUE BEGAN ON OR ABOUT 12/03/2018 AND CONTINUES TO PRESENT.
I WAS DRIVING AND OUT OF NOWHERE MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I TAKE IT TO AUTO ZONE TO DO A QUICK CHECK AND I WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS MY INJECTION PUMPS THAT ARE BAD. I DID RESEARCH AND IN THE PAST TOYOTA HAS HAD TO RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON THE EXACT VEHICLE BUT IT WAS FOR A DIFFERENT YEAR. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID MY VEHICLE YEAR DOES NOT FALL INTO THE RECALL BUT I'M SURE THAT IT IS THE EXACT THING.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT ASHLAND HONDA TOYOTA (2301 LAKE SHORE DR E, ASHLAND, WI 54806, (715) 682-5252), THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT THE CAM SHAFT TOWER SEAL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST. THE DEALER (DAVID MAUS TOYOTA, 1160 REINEHART RD, SANFORD, FL 32771) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
DEVELOPING HIGH ALC. DENSITY % WHEN USING ONLY E0-E10 GAS. TSB 005813 WAS DONE IN 2014 , BUT ISSUE RESURFACED. TOYOTA UNWILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP WANT TO CHARGE FOR THE FUEL PUMP. ($1500). 5 YEAR WARRANTY ENDED JUNE 10 2018. TRUCK HAS 54K MILES. TOYOTA KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS A FUEL PUMP. TRUCK HAS POOR MPG DUE TO THIS AND LACKS POWER. ECU THINKS TRUCK IS USING %40 ETHANOL WHICH TURNS HIGH PRESSURE REGULATOR IN THE PUMP ITSELF AND TELLS ECU TO PUMP MORE FUEL. TOYOTA NOR DEALER WANTS TO REFLASH THE ECU. TSB FALLS UNDER FEDERAL EMISSION WARRANTY 96 MONTHS OR 80K MILES.
BOUGHT THIS TRUCK USED WITH 8,000 MILES ON IT. IT CAME WITH A PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY TRANSFERRED FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER. AT 18,000 MILES THE SEAT WAS MOVING, POPPING AND FELT LIKE SPRINGS WERE POKING ME. SURE ENOUGH, THE SEAT FRAME HAD "WORN OUT". WAS REPLACED BY DEALER WITH FACTORY WARRANTY. 42,000 MILES THE SEAT ISSUE IS BACK, BUT DIFFERENT THIS TIME. THE SEAT ACTUALLY MOVES SIDE TO SIDE AND "CLUNKS" WHEN STOPPING AND GOING OR TURNING. DEALER SAYS THAT THIS MAY NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE PLATINUM WARRANTY. I WILL UPDATE THIS AFTER I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THIS WEEK. IF I HAD WANTED A HUNK OF JUNK, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A DODGE! MY 2000 TUNDRA WAS BULLET PROOF. THIS ONE.. NOT SO MUCH. WE'LL FIND OUT HOW WELL TOYOTA WANTS TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
ECU PROBLEM. SINCE JUNE 2018, I HAVE STARTED TO SEE DECREASED MPG (AVG 9 MPG, 50/50) AND VEHICLE EXHIBITING HIGH ALC. DENSITY % WHEN FUELED WITH E0/E10 GAS. NO DTC CODES, BUT EXTENDED CRANK EXHIBITED, POOR PERFORMANCE AND SHIFTING OBSERVED. THIS IS A FLEX VEHICLE. FUEL TRIMS WERE WAY INTO NEGATIVE AND I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA AND FILED A CASE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 MONTHS.(CALLED AUG 2018) VEHICLE HAD 55K MILES. THEY SAID ITS UP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RE CALIBRATED THE ECU PER TOYOTA TSB 0058-13 (SO THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM , BUT NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT) TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE HIDING SOMETHING, (DIESELGATE) FOR A YEAR, VEHICLE WAS FINE AND DID NOT SHOW ANY ISSUES WITH ALC. DENSITY % , MPG WAS NORMAL AND PERFORMANCE/DRIVEABILITY IMPROVED, UNTIL SEP 2019. SAME THING. ALC. DENSITY % TOO HIGH CAUSING POOR MPG. I HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER TOO JUST RESET THE VALUES, EVEN THOUGH THIS ISSUE FALLS UNDER FEDERAL EMISSION STANDARDS AND IT HAS WARRANTY OF 84 MONTHS OR 80K. SO EVEN AFTER THE FIX ECU CHANGES THE VALUES AFTER A YEAR. CLEARLY ECU ISSUE THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. THIS GOES AGAINST GAS EMISSIONS (GHG) AND FUEL ECONOMY STANDARDS FOR LIGHT-DUTY VEHICLES. THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES ABOUT THIS OUT THERE ON FLEX FUEL TUNDRAS, BUT TOYOTA IS TRYING TO HIDE THIS.
HORN STOPPED WORKING ON STEERING WHEEL. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS TRUCK.
CRANKED TRUCK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS, FIND OUT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM - STUCK AIR INJECTION CONTROL VALVES. AFTER VISITING TWO SHOPS AND TALKING TO TWO MORE I FIND OUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. THERE ARE LITERALLY TENS OF THOUSANDS TUNDRA'S, SEQUOIA'S, ETC WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, BUT TOYOTA HAS SET UP CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAMS (CSP'S) TO REIMBURSE SOME OF THOSE AFFECTED BY HIGH REPAIR BILLS $3,000 - $5,000. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A VERY POOR DESIGN BY TOYOTA THAT'S BEEN DUMPED ON THEIR CUSTOMERS. MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THE CSP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE IN USE. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE DEALER (SPRING HILL TOYOTA, 3062 GOVERNMENT BLVD, MOBILE, AL 36606, 1-(251) 450-1000) WAS NOTIFIED, BUT HAD NOT YET DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
INITIALLY DRIVER SIDE LOCK ACTUATOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK DOOR VIA REMOTE. THIS LAST APPROXIMATELY 10-DAYS. THE PROBLEM RESOLVED IT SELF. APPROXIMATELY 2-WEEKS LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR EXHIBITED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR PROBLEM LASTED APPROXIMATELY 7-DAYS. THIS HAS BEEN RANDOMLY HAPPENING OVER THE PAST 6-8 MONTHS. WITHIN THE PAST 5-DAYS THE DRIVERS DOOR BEGAN ACTING UP. THIS TIME THE LOCK WOULD UNLOCK USING THE REMOTE BUT THEN WOULD NOT LOCK USING THE REMOTE. I WOULD HAVE TO CYCLE THE LOCK SYSTEM 4 TO 5 TIMES BEFORE ALL FOUR DOORS WOULD LOCK USING REMOTE. AT SOME TIMES THREE OF THE FOUR DOORS WOULD LOCK EXCEPT THE DRIVERS DOOR. I THEN TRIED TO RECYCLE THE LOCK SYSTEM. AT TIMES AFTER RECYCLING THE LOCK SYSTEM I WOULD STILL HAVE TO LOCK DRIVERS DOOR MANUALLY. I TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA DEALER IN MY HOMETOWN, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT BOTH FRONT DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ARE BAD AND I WOULD NEED TO SPEND $1,200 TO FIX. I WAS TOLD THE LOCK ACTUATORS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER ANY MANUFACTURES RECALL. THE LOCK ACTUATOR ISSUE HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED WHEN VEHICLE IS IN A PARKED CONDITION, ENGINE OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER.
TOYOTA DEALER AND TOYOTA TECHNICAL SUPPORT ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH T-SB-0058-13. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WITHIN 3 MONTHS OR SO THAT I HAVE TAKEN MY 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN FOR THIS FIX. FUEL ECONOMY DROPS ON AVERAGE OF 30-40%. TOYOTA REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE, AND IS REFUSING TO COVER COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH FIXING THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN STATED AS A SOFTWARE GLICHE, AND THERE ARE NO PARTS TO REPLACE. HARD STARTS, ROUGH IDLE, AND REDUCTION IN FUEL ECONOMY CAN ONLY BE FIXED BY REPROGRAMMING THE ECM. DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THERE IS NOTHING THAT TOYOTA IS WILLING TO DO. THIS ISSUE IS IMPACTING THOUSANDS OF OWNERS, AND THE ONLY RESOLUTION TOYOTA HAS IS TO FLASH THE ECM. IF THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE I WOULD EXPECT THAT TOYOTA ISSUE A RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR MULTIPLE YEARS OF THIS ENGINE COMBINATION. THEY KNOW IT'S A PROBLEM, BUT ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO ADDRESS IT. I HAVE LOGGED MULTIPLE CALLS IN TO TOYOTA FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT HAVE RECEIVED NO FOLLOW UP CONTACTS.
CAM TOWER GASKETS (RIGHT AND LEFT) LEAKING @ 25,000 MI/5 YEARS ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAUSING SMOKE AND A FIRE HAZARD. TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS MAINE STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THE OIL LEAK.
VIBRATETION ON THE STEERING WHEEL
I TOOK MY 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA IN FOR A ROUTINE 55,000 MILE SERVICE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE STEERING RACK IS FILLING WITH FLUID AND I COULD HAVE IT SIEZE UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING. I PURCHASED ALL WARRANTIES GOOD UNTIL 2020 BUT THEY FEEL THIS DESIGN FLAW SHOULD BE COVERED BY ME THE CONSUMER. I WAS QUOTED $3000.00+ FOR THE REPAIR. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK AFTER PUTTING 100,000+ ON 2006 TUNDRA WITH NOTHING CLOSE TO THIS IS REPAIRS. WHAT IS GOING ON? THE STEERING CAN SIEZE UP, AND THIS ISN'T A RECALL? WHY WOULD I BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA? HOW DO THEY JUSTIFY LETTING THIS LEVEL OF A SAFETY ISSUE TO JUST DRIVE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP AND SAY IT'S YOUR PROBLEM?
VEHICLE SURGES/JUMPS FORWARD WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS BARELY TOUCHED FROM THE STATIONARY/STOP POSITION WHILE IN DRIVE. I WAS MOVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2FT.THIS PROBLEM CAUSED PROPERTY DAMAGE THIS MORNING. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. I REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA IN 2013. (2ND PROBLEM,) THIS VEHICLE GOES UP TO 2500 RPMS WHEN I TURN DOWN THE NEXT STREET WHICH HAS A SLIGHT DECLINE BUT THE SPEED DOESN'T INCREASE. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN THE MORNING WHEN IT IS FIRST USED. I THINK THIS COULD BE A DEFECTIVE COMPUTER MODULE FOR BOTH PROBLEMS. (3RD) PROBLEM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAN NOT BE READ ON A SUNNY DAY, YOU DON'T KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING OR HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE, ETC. THE WHOLE PANEL COULD BE DEFECTIVE. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO TOYOTA IN 2013, THEY DID NOT SHOW ANY INTEREST IN THESE PROBLEM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (PRICE LEBLANC, 13250 AIRLINE HWY, BATON ROUGE, LA 70817) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR INJECTION DIAL AND AIR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
