TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS ERRONEOUSLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHELOR TOYOTA (2260 ROANOKE ST, CHRISTIANSBURG, VA), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
LOW NOTE ELECTRIC HORN INTERMITTEN FAILURE: THE LOW NOTE ELECTRIC HORN BECOMES INOPERATIVE BELOW 25 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT WHILE PRESSING THE STEERING WHEEL HORN PAD/SWITCH. THE HIGH NOTE HORNS OPERATES DURING THIS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALL ENCOUNTERS DRIVING ON THE ROAD WHERE I NEEDED THE HORN DURING THESE PERIODS OF LOW TEMPERATURE AND THE HORN DIDN'T PROVIDE ADEQUATE AUDIBLE WARNING. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS UP TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERN". THIS IS A $50 PART THAT SHOULD OF BEEN REPLACED UNDER GOOD WILL IF PROBLEM COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DUPLICATED EVEN WHEN I PROVIDED VIDEO EVIDENCE OF THE HORN INOPERATIVE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT IS UNDER WARRANTY AND STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON WITH AN INOPERATIVE HORN. I CAN PROVIDE THE NECESSARY DEALERSHIP INVOICE TO NHTSA UPON REQUEST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA EQUIPPED WITH KUMHO ROAD VENTURES TIRES, SIZE: 275/65R/20 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SEVERE SHAKING DUE TO THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE TREAD SHIFTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE DOT NUMBER AND TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT PROVIDED.
THE FACTORY SUPPLIED OEM BRAKE CONTROLLER DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, AND IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE CURRENT DESIGN OR SOFTWARE IS TOO CONSERVATIVE, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT POWER TO TRAILERS WITH ELECTRIC BRAKES. I HAVE TOWED MY NEW TRAILER WITH NEW BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, AND THE RESULT IS CONSISTENT. WITH THE BRAKE CONTROLLER SET AT FULL POWER, THE ACTUAL TRAILER BRAKING IS MINIMAL, THEREFORE FORCING THE VEHICLE TO PROVIDE SOME OF THE BRAKING FORCE. THIS WORKS IN CONTROLLED SITUATIONS ON LEVEL GROUND. BUT, IN THE MOUNTAINS OR EMERGENCY STOPPING, THIS REPRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE WHERE I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE VEHICLE AND TRAILER WILL BE SAFELY STOPPED WITHOUT INCIDENT. A FRIEND OF MINE HAS THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH WILL REVEAL HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THIS ISSUE STARTED WITH THE 2015 MODEL YEAR. I'M CONCERNED THAT TOYOTA IS CONTINUING TO IGNORE THIS ISSUE DUE TO LEGAL LIABILITY REGARDING ACCIDENTS THAT ALREADY OCCURRED DUE TO THIS ENGINEERING FLAW. IT IS GOING ON 3 YEARS NOW WITHOUT A FIX. TOYOTA DID ISSUE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE LAST YEAR WHICH SHOULD HAVE FIXED THIS ISSUE. I HAD THE UPGRADE DONE, AND IT WAS ALMOST IMPERCEPTIBLE AS TO THE DIFFERENCE. IT WAS TOO CONSERVATIVE AND STILL DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH POWER, AS COMPARED TO ANY BRAKE CONTROLLER ON THE MARKET. MOST OWNERS HAVE GIVEN UP AND INSTALLED AFTERMARKET BRAKE CONTROLLERS LIKE THE TEKONSHA PRODIGY P3 MODEL. I BELIEVE THAT THE PROGRAMMING SHOULD BE FIXED SO THAT THE FACTORY CONTROLLER CAN BE USED SAFELY.
FRONT ROTORS WARPED IN UNDER 15,000 MILES VIN#[XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW TOYOTA TRUCK. I STEP ON THE REAR BUMPER WHEN THE TRUCK WAS STATIONARY AND NEARLY BROKE MY LEG, I NOTICED THAT THE REAR BUMPER APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN ALREADY BROKEN. WHEN I TOOK THE NEW TOYOTA TRUCK TO THE PARKER TOYOTA COEUR D'ALENE IDAHO DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THE REAR BUMPER WAS UNDER RECALL. A "...EQUIPPED WITH RESIN REAR STEP BUMPERS AND RESIN REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS AT EACH CORNER." YET THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. THIS I HAD TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THIS CRACKED BUMPER. THE BUMPER EVENTUALLY CAME OFF ON THE FREE WAY AND BROKE APART. I RETURNED AFTER PARKER TOYOTA IN COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO HAD THE PARTS AND I HAD THE TIME. BOB TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE BUMPER. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY FAULT THAT I STEPPED ON THE PICKUP TRUCK'S BUMPER. I CALLED TOYOTA AND MY CASE NUMBER IS CASE NUMBER: 170-906-0652 JEREMY. THEY SAID PARKER TOYOTA REPORTED THAT THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE BODY OF THE TRUCK, AND ALSO SINCE I STEPPED ON THE BUMPER THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE BUMPER. IF THERE IS ANY DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, IT IS TINY AND IT HAD TO HAPPEN AFTER THE BUMPER WAS OFF THE TRUCK. TO HAVE ANY DAMAGE TO THE BODY AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO "THROUGH" THE BUMPER. I HAVE DRIVEN AROUND WITH THE CAR FOR NEARLY 1 YEAR AFTER THE BUMPER FELL OFF A NEW TOYOTA TRUCK. STEPPING ON A BUMPER, WHICH IS A VERY NORMAL THING TO DO WITH A PICKUP TRUCK SHOULD NOT VOID THE RECALL. IT IS NOT MY FAULT THAT A BRAND NEW TRUCK HAD A RESIN BRACKET THAT GAVE WAY, INJURING ME, AND BECOMING A ROAD HAZARD. TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO PAY TO FIX THEIR PROBLEMS.
THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL ON THE REAR BUMPER BRACKETS. FOR NEARLY 6 MONTHS, THE DEALERS IN SOUTH FLORIDA (ESP TOYOTA OF NORTH MIAMI) HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO ASSIST IN REMEDY OF THIS ISSUE AS THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK.
THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING ON 8/13/17. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AGREED TO FIX IT THROUGH OUR INSURANCE CLAIM AND PROVIDES A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS. SEE THE ATTACHED LIST OF DAMAGES, WHICH WERE PROVIDED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/15/18. WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF I INDICATED THE VEHICLE WAS MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED TODAY AND VERY RUDELY STATED THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT FIX THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE ISSUES. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER, THE RECEPTIONIST REFUSED AND SAID THEY WILL NOT FIX MY VEHICLE.
I PURCHASED A NEW TRAILER TO PICK UP MY NEW TRACTOR. I TESTED THE TRAILER BRAKES KNOWING I WAS PULLING A LARGE LOAD AND DIDN'T WANT AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES APPEARED TO APPLY BUT DUE TO IT NOT BEING LOADED WHEN TESTING I HAD IT SET TO 5(OUT OF 10). WHILE PULLING IT BACK HOME ON THE INTERSTATE TOWING MY TRACTOR BEHIND ME THERE WAS TRAFFIC STOPPING AHEAD. I ALWAYS DRIVE IN THE RIGHT LANE TO NOT SLOW OTHERS...THANK GOD I DID. I HAD TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE SHOULDER TO MISS HITTING OR DRIVING OVER CARS AHEAD OF ME! THE BRAKES TURNED UP TO 10 DID NOTHING TO EVEN SLOW ME DOWN. I WAS TOWING 4 TONS AND 3 TONS FOR THE TRUCK TOTALING 7 TONS, SOMEONE WOULD'VE BEEN KILLED! TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX THESE TRAILER BRAKES! I CAN'T TOW MY TRACTOR ANYWHERE FOR WORK DUE TO THE BRAKES BEING UNSAFE!
MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER SCRAPED A CEMENT-BLOCK, CAUSING SOME MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER COVER IN AUGUST 2016. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FINE, BUT LATER ON I DID STEP ON THE BUMPER AND HEARD A CRACK AND THE BUMPER COLLAPSED. LATER I FIND OUT THAT FROM THE RECALL NOTICE THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM. AFTER CONTACTING LOCAL DEALER LANCASTER TOYOTA, CORPORATE 1 800 NUMBER, AND EMAIL CORPORATE ALL WERE NOT ABLE TO HELP ME. THEY ALL REFUSE TO FIX THE RECALL DUE TO DAMAGE, BUT THE DAMAGED AREA IS THE RECALLED REINFORCEMENT BRACKET. ALL THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BECAUSE I DID STEP STEP ON IT. I DID TRY TO WORK WITH THEM IN CAUSE THEY WANTED ME TO REPLACE THE OUTER BUMPER COVER THAT IS SCRATCHED, BUT THEY TELL ME I NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THE WHOLE THING BEFORE THE RECALL IS DONE. THE PROBLEM IS IF I FIX THE WHOLE AREA THERE IS NOT NEED FOR THE RECALL WORK TO BE DONE BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR IT. THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME A CLEAR ANSWER IF I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE RECALLED WORK.
IBC DOES NOT FUNCTION
ON OUR 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4X4 CREW CAB TRUCK MY TIRES ARE ALREADY WORN OUT. THEY ONLY HAVE 17000 MILES ON THEM. THE TREAD ON THE TIRES ARE 5/30 2ND. WE ROTATE EVERY 3000 TO 5000 MILES. WE PURCHASED THIS TRUCK FOR TOWING OUR 20 FT TRAILER AND HAVE TAKEN 3 SHORT VACATIONS (ABOUT 1 WEEK EACH) AND THERE IS HARDLY ANY TREAD LEFT ON THEM. WE ARE SENIOR CITIZENS AND DO NOT DRIVE RECKLESSLY. PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT TO DO WITH TAKING THESE ON MORE TRIPS. I DO HAVE PICTURES OF MY TIRES IF NEEDED.
ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE, I'VE NOTICED THE FRONT SENSORS (INTERMITTENTLY) KEEP GOING OFF. THIS HAPPENS ONCE OR TWICE EVERY OTHER WEEK. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, AT THIS TIME CAN'T DETERMINE WHAT'S CAUSING THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE RADIO SHUTS OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, THEN COMES BACK ON.

THIS IS ABOUT THE RECALL ABOUT THE REAR BUMPER. I GOT A NOTICE ABOUT THIS AND HAD TO TAKE IT IN TO SEE IF MY TRUCK WAS ONE THEY RECALLED AND IT WAS AND THEY DONT HAVE THE PART TO FIX IT. BEEN WAITING NOW OVER 2 MONTHS. WHAT HAPPENS IF I STEP ON IT AND BREAK MY LEG AND THE BUMPER. ITS TAKING WAY TO LONG.
THE TRAILER BRAKES WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE TRAILER BRAKES WILL NOT LOCK UP EVEN WHEN SET ON 10. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN HAULING ANY TRAILER WITH BREAKS. I HAVE PUT MY OTHER TRUCK TO THE TRAILER AND IT OPERATES GREAT. IT IS ABSOLUTELY THE BREAK CONTROL FROM THE FACTORY NOT THE TRAILER
INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER DOES NOT OPERATE TRAILER BRAKES, AT ANY TIME. MOVING OR STANDING STILL.
THE IBC FAILS TO WORK ON A ALUMA TANDEM TRAIL.
HAVE HAD BRAKING ISSUES WITH INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER, NO MATTER WHAT POWER LEVEL I USE THERE SEEMS TO BE VERY LITTLE IF NO EFFECT ON THE TRAILER BRAKING. I CAN SWITCH THE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER TO ELECTRIC OVER HYDRAULIC AND THEY APPLY THE BRAKES AND THEY GRAB IMMEDIATELY, IT SEEMS THAT THE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER IN ELECTRIC BRAKE MODE DOES NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH ELECTRICAL POWER TO ACTIVATE THE TRAILER BRAKES.
INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER NOT WORKING. SET AT ITS HIGHEST RATING IT STILL DID NOT WORK. CHECKED TRAILER BRAKES WITH ANOTHER TRUCK AND THEY WORK. APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH THE MANUAL ACTIVATOR AND NO BRAKES. CAME CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT. WILL BE MEETING WITH DEALER ON THIS ISSUE. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT THIS MIGHT BE A COMMON PROBLEM

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ERROR MESSAGE ILLUMINATED, REFERRING THE DRIVER TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT TWO ENGINEERS TO INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE ENGINEERS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PART WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA , PURCHASED BRAND NEW , AFTER 3000 MILES TRUCK START LEANING TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE. I EXPRESSED ISSUE TO THE DEALER, TECHNICIAN TOOK FOR A DRIVE TEST AND NOTICED THE SAME ISSUE , I DROPPED MY VEHICLE WITH DEALER FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO IT DUE TO THERE IS NO RECALLS TO IT, BUT I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE PREVENTED .

I HAVE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING THE LACK OF DAYTIME VEHICLE INSTRUMENT ILLUMINATION ON MY NEW 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA (WHILE DRIVING, STATIONARY AND ON ALL ROADS) DURING THE DAY. AS AN ELDER ADULT WHO WEARS SUNGLASSES TO PROTECT THEIR EYES (ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION) THE DASH BOARD (SPECIFICALLY THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATOR) IS BARELY DISCERNIBLE. EVEN WITHOUT SUNGLASSES THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS VERY DARK. I AM SURE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE INSTRUMENTS AND OPERATE THEIR VEHICLES IN A SAFE AND LAWFUL MANNER DURING THE DAYTIME OR WITH SUNGLASSES ON. I AM SURE THE DECISION, BY TOYOTA, TO NOT ILLUMINATE THE DASH IN THE DAYTIME SAVES A FEW PENNIES AND ADDS UP FOR THE MANUFACTURER WHEN YOU SELL THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES? BUT. . . NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE A DARK INSTRUMENT PANEL IS BOUND TO CAUSE MORE THAN A FEW ACCIDENTS.
THE INTEGRATED ELECRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER INCLUDED IN MY PLATINUM EDITION OPTIONS FOR TOWING A TRAILER DOES NOT WORK. ACCORDING TO DEALER, THERE IS NO FIX FROM TOYOTA ALTHOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE.
INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. IN ELECTRIC MODE, NO POWER SETTING (1-10) IS ABLE TO GET THE TRAILER BRAKES TO LOCK UP WHEN THE TRUCK BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS IS A CRUCIAL TEST TO CALIBRATE THE TRAILER BRAKES BEFORE GOING ON THE ROAD, AND DEMONSTRATES THAT THE OUTPUT SIGNAL FROM THE BRAKE CONTROLLER ISN'T SUFFICIENT TO STOP THE TRUCK/TRAILER COMBO IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE TRAILER BRAKES ARE ABLE TO LOCK UP WITH CERTAIN SETTINGS IF YOU MANUALLY ACTIVATE THE TRIGGER, DEMONSTRATING THAT THE CONTROLLER NOT ONLY HAS THE ABILITY TO LOCK UP THE BRAKES, BUT THAT THE TRAILER ITSELF ISNT THE PROBLEM. THE PROGRAMMING OF THE CONTROLLER IS SUSPECT.
INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER (IBC) ON A 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA FAILS TO ADEQUATELY STOP A TRAILER FITTED WITH ELECTRONIC DRUM BRAKES. WHEN THE BRAKE CONTROLLER IS IN THE ELECTRIC BRAKE MODE, I GET VERY LITTLE BRAKING WITH THE IBC MAXED AT LEVEL 10 ON THE GAIN CONTROL. I CAN MANUALLY STOP THE TRAILER USING THE MANUAL SQUEEZE LEVERS AND THE BRAKES STOP THE TRAILER AND TRUCK, BUT PROVIDES VERY LITTLE BRAKING WHEN USING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE TRAILER PUSHES THE TRUCK CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF I PUT THE BRAKE CONTROLLER IN THE ELECTRIC OVER HYDRAULIC BRAKE MODE, THE BRAKES WORK BY THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT GRAB INSTANTLY AT ONLY A GAIN LEVEL OF (1.5). THE TRAILER BRAKES HAVE BEEN TESTED AND WORK AS EXPECTED WITH AN AFTERMARKET BRAKE CONTROLLER. TOYOTA'S IBC, AS NOTED BY SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS, ON MANY WEBSITES ARE NOT PERFORMING AS EXPECTED WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. IF ROAD SURFACES ARE WET OR ICY THE TRUCK BREAKS WOULD HAVE LITTLE CHANCE TO STOP A LOADED TRAILER AT MAX CAPACITY.
I BOUGHT A 2016 TUNDRA IN MAY OF 2016. I OWN SOME RANCH PROPERTY IN WEST TEXAS. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK THERE TWICE AND BOTH TIMES I HAVE HAD WIRING DAMAGED BY RODENTS. SO FAR IT IS UP TO OVER 800 DOLLARS. TOYOTA WILL NOT WARRANTY IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER DISASSEMBLED WHILE BEING STEPPED ONTO TO ENTER THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FRACTURED CLIP FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER. THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED. WHILE WAITING FOR THE CLIP, A PASSENGER STEPPED UP ON THE BUMPER SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND FRACTURED THE BUMPER IN HALF. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT SHIN, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN INSPECTOR TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BUMPER DAMAGE WAS DUE TO AN IMPACT, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE TOWING A TRAILER, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, THE TRAILER BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE TRAILERING MY 6800 POUND TRAVEL TRAILER FOR THE FIRST TIME AND AFTER I HAD MANUALLY SET THE FACTORY ELECTRIC BRAKES, A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND THE ELECTRIC BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP MY TRAILER OR EVEN SLOW IT DOWN. THE BRAKES WERE SET AT AN 8.5 ON THE READOUT. I CAME WITHIN INCHES OF AN ACCIDENT AT ABOUT 45 MPH. NEXT, THE BRAKES WERE ADJUSTED ALL THE WAY UP TO A SETTING OF 10. THIS ALSO DID NOT HELP TO STOP THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WITH BRAKING HARD AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER AFTER I HAD TRIED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES TO ADJUST THE BRAKES WITH NO SUCCESS. AT THIS POINT, I AM AWAITING TOYOTA TO COME UP WITH A FIX BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR INJURED. THIS ISSUE IS WIDE SPREAD ACROSS TUNDRA FORUMS ONLINE.

THE IBC HAS TWO MODES OF BRAKING, FOR TRAILERS WITH ELECTRIC BRAKES OR FOR TRAILERS WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKES. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING DID NOT WORK FOR THE ELECTRICS BRAKES MODE. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2016 TUNDRA TO PULL MY SMALL TRAVEL TRAILER. ON A RECENT TRIP I HAD TO STOP QUICKLY AND REALIZED THAT THE TRAILER BRAKES WERE NOT ACTIVATING. I THEN DID SOME TESTS TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET IT TO ACTIVATE AND WAS SURPRISED TO DISCOVER THAT IT WAS NOT BRAKING THE TRAILER AT ALL. I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A TON OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THEY HAVE NO FIX FOR IT.
ON MY 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA PLATINUM EDITION, AT NIGHT WITH HEADLIGHTS IN "AUTO" POSITION, WHEN I USE TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS ALL OCCASIONALLY TURN OFF. ONCE TURN SIGNAL SHUTS OFF, LIGHTS COME BACK ON . IT TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT NIGHT WHEN IT'S COLD OUT. THEM IS INTERMITTENT, THIS IS SO SCARY! I WAS GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 80 MPH AT NIGHT AND MY TRUCK (FULL OF MY FAMILY) JUST DISAPPEARED WHEN I CHANGED LANES. I GOT OUT, CHECKED ALL CONNECTIONS, RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND TRIED AGAIN; SAME ISSUE. I CONNECTED A FRIENDS TEKONSHA P3 THROUGH MY TRUCKS IBC CABLE (USING HIS CABLE ADAPTER) AND TRIED AGAIN WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THIS CONFIRMS IT'S NOT A TRAILER OR WIRING ISSUE. I RECONNECT THE IBC AND RESTARTED THE TRUCK, TRYING AGAIN; SAME ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS, SAID THEY SAW BEFORE WITH NO RESOLVE, AND SUGGESTED I BUY AN AFTERMARKET BRAKE CONTROLLER, TOO. I THEN LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, REQUIRING THAT THEY BUY AN AFTERMARKET BRAKE CONTROLLER TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS ONE (TWO LINKS ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS COMPLAINT). TRUCK IS RATED TO TOW 9100LBS, AND INCLUDES AN INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER FOR USE WITH ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES (WHICH IS NEW FOR 2016 TUNDRA'S). THE FIRST TIME I HOOKED THE TRUCK UP TO THE TRAILER, I SET UP THE TRAILER BRAKES USING THE OWNERS MANUAL. AFTER PULLING OUT ONTO THE STREET I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES THE TRAILER BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. MY TRAILER WEIGHS NEARLY 8000LBS. LUCKILY, THE MANUAL SLIDER WORKS TO ENGAGE THE TRAILER BRAKES, BUT EVEN ON A GAIN SETTING OF 10 (MAX) THE FOOT BRAKE FAILS TO ADEQUATELY ENGAGE THE BRAKES ON MY TRAILER. I HAVE TRIED 2 OTHER TRAILERS, AND TALKED TO MULTIPLE 2016 TUNDRA OWNERS ONLINE AND THIS PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT ACROSS ALL TUNDRA'S TOWING ANY TYPE TRAILER. UNDER HARD BRAKNG AT ANY SPEED MY TRAILER WANTS TO JACKNIFE AND PUSH THE TRUCK OUT OF IT'S WAY, BECAUSE THE BRAKES ON THE TRUCK ARE ENGAGING TO MAX AND THE TRAILER BRAKES ARE HARDLY ENGAGING AT ALL EVEN ON MAX GAIN SETTING. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED AND TOYOTA IS NOT COMING FORWARD WITH A FIX. THEY CLAIM THE CONTROLLER IS "WORKING AS DESIGNED", BUT I TOW 8000LBS BEHIND ME AND WITHOUT ADEQUATE TRAILER BRAKES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IS JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP IN AND FORCE TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THIS SERIOUS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED. LUCKILY THE MANUAL SLIDER STILL WORKS, BUT THAT IS A BANDAID SOLUTION EVERY TUNDRA OWNER CAN'T BE EXPECTED TO DRIVE AROUND MANUALLY APPLYING THE TRAILER BRAKES SEPARATE FROM THE FOOT BRAKE. IF I CAN STOP MY TRAILER FASTER WHEN MANUALLY APPLYING THE TRAILER BRAKES THAN THE TRUCK WILL STOP WITH JUST THE FOOT BRAKE, THAN SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE! IN WHAT SCENARIO WOULD TOYOTA EVER WANT MY TRUCK TO STOP LESS QUICKLY IN A MAX BRAKING SITUATION? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, AND THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION!

IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO RELY ON A BRAKE CONTROLLER TO SLOW OR STOP A VEHICLE THAT IS TOWING A LOAD WITH TRAILER BRAKES THAT ARE NOT WORKING. I TOWED OUR CAMPER THIS LAST WEEKEND WITH MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE CAR AND IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD.

THE INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER IS NOT WORK WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IN ELECTRIC BRAKE MODE. TOOK MY TUNDRA OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH MY 24' 3200 LB TRAVEL TRAILER. I SET THE GAIN TO 10 AND HIT THE MANUAL SLIDE AND THE TRAILER TIRES LOCKED UP. STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND COULDN'T FEEL ANY BRAKES BEING APPLIED TO THE TRAILER. I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THE TRAILER TIRES TO LOCKUP WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES WITH A GAIN OF 10. THIS COULD MAKE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
BUILT IN BREAK CONTROLLER IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WITH FULL GAIN, IT DOES NOT APPLY THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF BRAKES TO MY TRAILER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT.
