IT IS NOW OCTOBER 28, 2016 AND THERE IS STILL NO FIX OR TIMELINE FOR THE FIX AVAILABLE EVEN THOUGH I AM CONSIDERED IN THE 1ST WAVE OF FIXES WHERE IS SAYS TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IF AFTER 5 MONTHS THERE IS STILL NO FIX AVAILABLE? I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY AND THEY HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ON A TIMELINE EITHER. "TAKATA RECALL" I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER (LUMBERTON, N.C.) TO GET THE TAKATA INFLATORS REPLACED ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDES. ACCORDING TO THE SHOP FOREMAN, ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE, AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED. THIS WAS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING SINCE.
I WAS LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES FROM HOME, ON MY WAY TO TAKE MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN OFF THE STREET FROM MY NEIGHBORHOOD, UNTO THE SERVICE ROAD THAT LEADS TO THE RAMP FOR THE HIGHWAY ENTRANCE. AS I HEADED TOWARDS THE RAMP THAT ENTERS UNTO THE HIGHWAY, THE 2008 TOYOTA YARIS FELT LIKE IT SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE. DESPITE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKES, THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I SWERVED BACK UNTO THE SERVICE ROAD TO AVOID CONTINUING UNTO THE RAMP, IN FEAR THAT I WOULD CRASH INTO THE CARS ON THE HIGHWAY. TO AVOID HITTING ANY VEHICLES ON THE SERVICE ROAD, I MANAGED TO SWERVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ? WITH THE CAR FINALLY STOPPING WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A POLE. MY CHILDREN AND I SUFFERED SEAT BELT BRUISING AND CUTS. I WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR A FEW DAYS FOR HAND, FOOT, AND BACK INJURIES, AND STILL UNDER DOCTOR'S CARE FOR THE INJURIES. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOST. I HAVE MY SERVICE RECEIPTS REFLECTING THAT I KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CAR. BROKEN BOLT ON LOWER CONTROL ARM / ONLY 90000 MILES DRIVEN TO WORK ONLY / NOT ABUSED
I AM A RETIRED AUTOSHOP TEACHER {2 YEARS} AND AM ASE CERTIFIED IN, AMONG OTHERS, SUSPENSION AND STEERING. WHILE DRIVING MY YARIS, STARTED TO HEAR A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION. SUDDENLY, A LOUD BANG WHILE SOMETHING BROKE OFF THE CAR AND HIT THE UNDERBODY. ON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM REARWARD BOLT, WHICH EXTENDS THROUGH A CENTER SUPPORT AND IS BOLTED TO THE VEHICLE BODY, HAD SNAPPED OFF ABOUT HALFWAY. I DROVE THE CAR HOME, ABOUT 3 MILES, BUT THE DRIVEABILITY OF THE VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED, THE STEERING BECAME VAGUE AND THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND LOUDER. THERE IS A TSB, NUMBER 005-11 ON THIS PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA FAILS TO ADMIT IN THIS OR EARLIER TSBS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH IN MY OPINION, IT CLEARLY IS. THIS IS NOT AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM, AS AN INTERNET SEARCH FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAD EXPERIENCED THIS. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN A RECALL!

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING AND MY CAR STOPPED OUT OF NOWHERE AND IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO A REPAIR CENTER JUST TO FIND THAT I HAD NO GAS EVENTHOUGH THE DASH INDICATED I STILL HAD A LITTLE LESS THAN HALF A TANK OF GAS . I WAS INFORMED THAT I COULD EITHER BUY A NEW GAS TANK WHICH WOULD COST A LOT OR KEEP TRACK IF THE MILES AND FILL THE GAS TANK ACCORDINGLY. I WAS ABOUT TO GET ON THE FREEWAY IF THIS WOULD IF HAPPENED THERE IT COULD OF CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD AT THE REPAIR CENTER THAT THIS IS COMMON IN YARIS AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH AND GOING ON TO FORUMS MYSELF I FOUND MANY YARIS OWNERS HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON 127 IN GLENCOE KENTUCKY AND A DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME ALMOST TOTALING MY WHOLE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR MY AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED IT WAS A HARD HIT I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT IF I WASN'T WEARING MY SEAT BELT JUST GETTING WHIPLASH. MY HEADLIGHT FENDER MY FRONT NUMBER MY GRILLE BOTH OF MY DOORS AND MY MIRROR HAVE TO BE REPLACED IF POSSIBLE I WANT TO TALK TO SOMEONE I SEEN ON HERE THAT MY CAR HAS 2 OPEN RECALLS IN MY CAR AND I WANT THEM FIXED AS SOON AS MY CAR GETS DONE BEING FIXED FROM THE SHOP. INTERNET RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 TOYOTA YARIS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE REAR SENSOR AND HARNESS. ABS IS NOW INOPERABLE AND THE REPAIR IS VERY COSTLY. THE CLEAR COAT HAS BEGUN TO COME OFF. IT BEGAN ON THE ROOF, AND IS NOW PEELING AROUND THE DOORS. THE PAINT IS NOW EXPOSED TO ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND IS BEGINNING TO FADE.
A TOYOTA YARIS WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH AN AUDI TT. THE YARIS EXPERIENCED A DELTA-V OF APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. POST COLLISION INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THE YARIS' DRIVER SEAT ROTATED 90-DEGREES COUNTERCLOCKWISE. THE BOLTS WHICH FASTENED THE SEAT'S MOUNTING BRACKETS TO THE FLOORBOARD HAD ALL BEEN SHEERED OR PULLED OUT OF THE FLOORBOARD. *TR
AFTER WASHING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR, THE CEL CAME ON. FIVE P CODES CAME UP ON SCANNER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT WATER GOT INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT ALONG WITH OTHER RELATED PARTS TOTAL COST TO ME $1027.83 WHICH INCLUDES NYS TAX NOT INCLUDING LABOR CHARGE. TOYOTA HAS CORRECTED THIS PROBLEM ON THE NEWER MODELS BUT MINE WAS BEYOND THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT TO A DEFECT. INCLUDED IN THE PARTS LIST IS SOME SORT OF WATER DEFLECTOR SO THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. TOYOTA SAID THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A RECALL. I LIVE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK WHERE SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS AND IT IS ADVISABLE TO WASH UNDER THE VEHICLE. ALSO, IT DOES RAIN ON OCCASION AND WATER IS SPLASHED UP UNDER THE CAR. I NOW HAVE 57000 MILES ON THE CAR WITH NO CHANCE OF PASSING INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THAT IN THE EVENT OF A RECALL, I COULD BE ENTITLED TO A REFUND. I THINK THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT BOTHER TO LODGE A COMPLAINT SO NO CHANCE OF A RECALL.

MY FIANCE WAS IN A NASTY TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. SHE WAS REAR ENDED WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN HER 2008 TOYOTA YARIS BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING AT AROUND 40-50MPH. ON IMPACT SHE STATED THE SEATBELT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOCKED, THEN UNLOCKED GIVING MORE SLACK AS SHE PROJECTED FORWARD, THEN GAINED MOMENTUM BACK INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT (NOW SEATED) WHEN THE BELT LOCKED AGAIN WITH REMAINING MOVEMENT . THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ANYWHERE IN THE VEHICLE AND THE ENTIRE TRUNK WAS ALMOST PUSHED INTO THE BACK SEAT. FURTHERMORE, HER MOTHER WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND RECALLED SOMETHING SIMILAR OCCURRING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AS WELL. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
