November 26th, I was leaving my home to go tPublix. Upon exiting the Eagle Creek community gate, I proceeded down Eagle Creek Sanctuary Boulevard to avoid hitting a cat, I ended scraped the side of my tires and rims on the side curb. Unexpectedly, while driving, the airbags deployed, even though I had not come into contact with the cat or any other object. The steering wheel airbag did not deploy only the airbags on the side a cop did show up because he was coming out of the eagler creek community and stopped to ask if I needed assistance I showed the office inside my vehicle he was shocked to see that my airbags deployed and the gentlemen that was Towing the vehicle was shocked as well the officer and the towing gentleman inform me I should contact Volkswagen. I contacted volkswagen customer service but I also wanted to report it to the NHTSA my concern is this should be investigated further.
Error: Airbag and the passenger airbag isn’t working. There is a recall for the atlas but my vin isn’t in there. No recall for the brakes but they are in a class action lawsuit and they are squeeling, vibrate and feel like they won’t stop. Dealership claims nothing wrong. But my car I traded in didn’t feel like this. Vw need to take action before accidents happen.
The passenger air bag has a faulty sensor and the instrument cluster has an intermittent warning with audible chime. We are unable to use the vehicle for safe transportation and we are intermittently bombarded with the chime while driving. The dealership cannot repair until July 3 and does not offer any alternative transportation in the mean time or any loaner during repair. We have contacted VW Customer Care and they refuse to do anything about it. They have directed us to the dealership. We are unable to get around as a family currently due to this issue. There is an active recall for this issue.
Volkswagen doesn’t have a repair for the front passenger airbag not going off due to a sensor failure. Customers such as myself were made aware in June of the issue and there is STILL no fix!!!
This safety recall has been open for quite some time. I feel unsafe driving with anyone in the passenger seat. When I contacted VW, they simply informed me that a remedy is not yet available. VW says that owners should avoid use of the front passenger seat if possible until the recall repairs have been made.
I was made aware of this recall in June of 2024. I called to schedule my car and when I showed up was told the repair was not available. I was told when the letter was mailed in August I could get my vehicle repaired and advised not to use the front passenger seat. I tried calling again in August and was told still no repair available and "don't use the front passenger seat". I most recently called in November of 2024. Our local dealer told us no repair was available and to call VW's 1800 number. The local dealer also gave misinformation about the recall and when I asked they told me they didn't know. I called VW customer service and was told my car is in wave 3. I asked for reasoning about why my car is in wave 3 and they couldn't give any explanation. When I asked when wave 3 repairs would be available, they didn't have an answer. I was told wave 1 and wave 2 had started but there was no ETA for wave 3 to start and to not use the front passenger seat. This car is our family car. We have enough seatbelts in the car for each person in the family. We have been told for close to 6 months now not to use our primary mode of transportation with no reasoning on why we are in wave 3 and no estimate for a repair to be made. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was denied. I also reached out through the Facebook page of VW and received similar information. (No idea why you are in wave 3 and no ETA on a fix).

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while the twelve-year-old child was seated in the second-row passenger side captain's seat, the seat belt locking mechanism malfunctioned and the seat belt was unable to be unlatched, causing the child to become trapped in the seat. The contact stated that scissors were used to cut the seat belt strap to free the child. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the seat belt assembly. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred with the replacement seat belt, and again the seat belt strap was cut to free the child. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 44,000. The VIN was not available.
The PODs system is still hasn't been repaired since the recall was announced in June. I was told a fix was coming in August, but to no avail. I haven't been able to have someone in the passenger seat of the car since the recall.
We have encountered two recalls (one that we are still expecting a fix for) and multiple issues with our VW Atlas that we purchased new in June 2022
Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally express my concern about the ongoing recall on my 2024 Volkswagen Atlas due to a faulty airbag issue. This recall, which I was notified of in June 2024, has yet to be resolved, and Volkswagen has not provided any timeline for a fix. This unresolved issue is significantly impacting my family’s safety and quality of life. As this is our only vehicle, we rely on it daily to transport our children to school and ourselves to work. However, I am deeply anxious every time we drive it, especially with my husband in the passenger seat, knowing that Volkswagen cannot guarantee the airbags will function properly in the event of a crash. I contacted Volkswagen directly and asked for reassurance regarding the safety of the airbags, but they were unable to confirm that the system would not pose a danger in an accident. To make matters worse, Volkswagen has offered no support—such as a loaner vehicle or temporary replacement—despite the serious nature of the recall. Selling the vehicle is also not an option, as the unresolved recall renders it practically unsellable. This situation has left me feeling trapped and worried for my family’s safety. I respectfully urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and ensure Volkswagen addresses this recall with the urgency it demands. Families like mine should not be left in limbo for months on end with no resolution in sight. Thank you for your time and attention to this critical safety issue. Please let me know if additional information is needed. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the front passenger’s side occupant detection system was faulty and needed to be replaced along with the front passenger’s seat wiring harness and front passenger’s seat sensor. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 54,000.
My vehicle warning sensors continue to fail despite having them replaced and now their is an unrepairable recall that my cause my passenger airbag to not deploy during head on collision. I feel these are critical safety features are main reasons for purchasing my vehicle. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle with failing and/or potentially failing safety features. I was widowed 18 months ago. If my vehicle causes me to inadvertently harm my passenger due to a safety feature failure I will not be able to live with that. I am very disappointed in VW for the suggestion to turn off the warning features as a solution and the fact that they have yet to come up with a fix for the recall. My vehicle is only 2 years old and I do not feel safe in it. In addition, I am having to have a second fuel injector replaced due to it failing. I believe I was sold a lemon.
