THE CLIPS ON THE INTERIOR PART OF THE SUN SHADE THAT PREVENTS BLINDING SUN FROM COMING TOUGH THE SUNROOF BENT. IT MAKES IT HARD TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE SHADE WHEN DRIVING WITHOUT GREAT FORCE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT VERY SAFE TO BE DOING WHEN DRIVING. THE PERSON THAT FIXED THE SUNROOF ALSO SAYED HE WISH'S THEY WOULD RECALL THE CLIP BECAUSE HE HAS FIXED MANY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CLIPS JUST BEND AND JUMP OF THE TRACK THEY NEED TO SLIDE IN. WE THINK THE METAL USED FOR THE CLIPS NEED TO BE STRONGER OR REVISED.( DOT NUMBER: M3WC TIRE SIZE: 205/55R16 )
WHILE DRIVING ON SERVICE ROAD STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT, LIFTED FOOT OFF THE BRAKES AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND HE WAS NOT ABLE TO HELP.*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. CALLED DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL, IT WOULD GO OFF. CAR WAS STILL STALLING, AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THEN, A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE TOWED IN. AFTER PICKING UP CAR FOR REPAIRS IT STALLED AGAIN. CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION NOISE. *AK
WHEN ACCELERATING NOTHING HAPPENS AT AN INTERSECTION. CONSUMER FEELS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. *AK
AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT REPEATEDLY COMES ON, CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS , THE AIRBAG UNIT HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*JB
DURING CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION, CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES, THEN REENGAGES WHEN VEHICLE STRIKES A RIDGE OR HOLE IN THE ROAD. ON ONE OCCASION, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO REENGAGE WHEN PASSING THROUGH CASUAL WATER ON THE HIGHWAY. *AK
CONSUMER CAN HEAR AND FEEL VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. DEALER SAYS THAT AIR COMPRESSOR IS NEAR THE BRAKES, AND IT'S NORMAL. *AK
DUE TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEMS POWER WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS INTERMITTENTLY LOSE OPERATION. EMERGENCY WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, AND ALARMS INTERMITTENTLY SOUND OFF. DEALER IS HAVING A HARD TIME CORRECTING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. *AK
DRIVER WINDOW NOT OPENING/CLOSING AUTOMATICALLY, DRIVER DOOR AND TRUNK PERIODICALLY FAILS TO SHUT COMPLETELY, LEFT RADIO BLOWN, ROCKER PANELS HAVE DENTS DUE TO NO FAULT OF DRIVER, CONTINUOUS DEEP SCRATCHES ON EXTERIOR BODY OF VEHICLE
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND TEMPERATURE LIGHT CAME ON. THEN SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST VW DEALER. DEALER SAID THAT BOTH ELECTRIC FANS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A KINK IN THE WIRE OF ONE OF THE FANS THAT CAUSED IT TO FAIL. BOTH FANS BASICALLY MELTED AND BLEW APART. *AK *ML
CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 7 TIMES FOR REPAIRS, EACH TIME HE IS ASSURED THAT THE CAR IS FIXED. VW CUSTOMER SERVICES POSITION IS THAT IF IT IS CURRENTLY FIXED THEY HAVE NO FURTHER OBLIGATION. THE CAR WAS BACK 4 TIMES UNDER ITS 24,000 MILE WARRENTY BUT EACH TIME CONSUMER WAS ASSURED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND AND NECESSARY REPAIRS WERE MADE, ALL SEVEN TIMES THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE IT WAS BECAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. *AK
TL* CONTACT OWNS A 2000 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE. THE CONTACT STATES SINCE DAY ONE OF OWNING HIS VEHICLE HE HAS HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN HIS DASH LIGHTS BLEW OUT, HIS POWER DOOR LOCKS ALSO STOPPED WORKING. THE CONTACT STATES WHILE HIS VEHICLE IS PARKED OUTSIDE AND IS NOT RUNNING HIS ALARM WOULD JUST GO OFF ON IT'S OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME SO THE CONTACT DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY AS MUCH. THE CONTACT STATES HE HAS SPENT ABOUT 353.00 ON MISCELLANEOUS, AND NORMAL MAINTENANCE. THERE WAS 5,182 PAID ON REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATES HE ALSO HAD A NEW COMPUTER PUT IN THE VEHICLE ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. THERE HAS BEEN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BACK TO BACK AND THE CONTACT ALSO STATES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL COMING ON AND OFF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1 MILE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 58,000. VEHICLE BURNS 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY THOUSAND MILES. THIS IS NORMAL. CONSUMER FEELS ENGINE IS BURNING THE OIL AND SHOULD NOT ALSO IT MAY BE AN EMISSION ISSUE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

DT: CONSUMER STATES THAT THE INDICATOR LIGHT FOR AIR BAGS KEPT COMING ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED BUT LIGHT CAME BACK ON IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE CONSUMER STATED THIS PROBLEM STARTED SOON AFTER HE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2000 AND THAT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING OFF AND ON EVER SINCE. *AK THE CONSUMER HAS HEARD OTHER BEETLE OWNERS COMPLAIN OF THIS PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE CONNECTION UNDER THE SEAT CAN BE DISCONNECTED EASILY OR IS TOO EASILY DAMAGED. *NM
NO DEPLOYMENT OF BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS POSSIBLE RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF THE DRIVER ROBERT MCGARY. NLM
LOST CONTROL IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG AND SEATBELT FAILURE, RESULTING IN DEATH
SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING DEATH. YH
VEHICLE BECAME INOPERABLE AND REQUIRED TOWING ON A MAJOR BRIDGE (VERRAZANO BETWEEN BROOKLYN AND STATEN ISLAND) AT NIGHT IN A HEAVY RAIN WITH HIGH SPEED HEAVY TRAFFIC, A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH, FORTUNATELY, NOBODY WAS INJURED. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
AFTER DISCOVERING THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE FUEL TANK WAS FOUND TO BE BUSTED. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. DRIVER NEVER RAN OVER ANYTHING THAT COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE FUEL TANK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
ABS CONTROL UNIT AND PUMP WERE REPLACED DURING AN EXTENDED STAY (OVER 30 DAYS) AT THE DEALER. BRAKES ARE CURRENTLY NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. CAR TO BE RETURNED TO DEALER FOR REPAIR(S).
UNDERCARRIAGE OF VEHICLE WAS HARD CARDBOARD, WHEN GOING OVER A HIGH SPEED BUMP IT RIPPED UNDERCARRIAGE OFF. ALSO IN HEAVY RAIN, IT TEARS AND COMES OFF. HAS BEEN REPAIRED 4 TIMES, REPLACED ONCE. DEALER SAID IT WAS POOR DESIGN.*AK THE UNDERCARRIAGE CAME OFF SEVERAL TIMES AFTER BEING REPLACED. THE TEMPERATURE GUAGE AND THE A/C HAD FAILED. *YH
AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF. NOW BEING REPAIRED FOR THE 3RD TIME. UNABLE TO DRIVE DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. *AK
HED REST IS 6 INCHES TOO HIGH TO FIT DRIVER'S HEAD PROPERLY. THIS CAUSES POOR VISIBILITY FOR DRIVER OUT OF REAR WINDOW. HAD CONTACTED MANUFACTURER. HAS NO PLANS TO CONVERT HEADREST. *AK
2000 BEETLE CUSTOMER CAN'T GET AN APPOINTMENT TO FIXING A SAFETY RECALL N-4**CC THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. RECALL# 06V183000. *JB
BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED SIGNIFICANTLY (1 INCH OR MORE) BEFORE ANY SENSATION OF THEM BEING APPLIED. YOU LOSE 1/4 TO 1/2 SECOND OF BREAKING TIME, COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING OR NOT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THE PEDAL DOESN'T FEEL SOLID BUT SPONGY.
2000 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE LEAKING COOLANT, DEFECTIVE AIRFLOW SENSOR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND PROBLEMS WITH WINDOW SWITCH. *MR THE WINDOW HAD TO BE OPERATED A CERTAIN WAY IN ORDER TO OPERATE PROPERLY,THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON DUE TO A BAD AIRFLOW SENSOR IN WHICH THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE COOLANT LIGHT HAD COME ON DUE TO THE TUBE THAT HAD RUN FROM THE COOLANT CONTAINER TO THE ENGINE HAD CUT IN IT AND LEAKED COOLANT. *SCC *JB
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEM WITH REAR OUTSIDE MIRROR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. ALSO, STATED WHEN TURNING IT WOULD BLOCK THE VIEW AT 50% ,AND WAS CONSIDERED UNSAFE. MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.*AK

CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE EPC INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER STATED THE SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND A NEW BRAKE SWITCH WAS INSTALLED, HOWEVER WHEN CONSUMER RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE, SHE NOTICED THAT IT FELT DIFFERENT, IT FELT TIGHT, CONSUMER SOON DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKES HAD FROZE AND WOULD NOT MOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE NEW BRAKE SWITCH THAT WAS INSTALLED HAD CAUSED THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.*JB
CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT BULB FAILED, ALSO THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT IS LOCATED IN PLACE THAT IS HARD TO GET TO, THE DEALER STATED IT TOOK 45 MINUTES TO REMOVE THE INSIDE PANELLING AND 2 SECONDS TO CHANGE THE BULB.*JB
CONSUMER IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION IN THIS VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXAMINED FOR OIL LEAKS. VEHICLE RUNS LOW ON OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF ENGINE.*JG
WHEN DRIVER'S FOOT IS ON BRAKE ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE. VEHICLE HAS TO BE SLAMMED INTO PARK IN ORDER TO STOP. *AK

FUEL FILTER LINE IS LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO FUEL CLIP THAT HAS CAUSED A HOLE TO DEVELOP IN FUEL LINE. CONSUMER HAS NOTICED THERE WAS NO LEAK AT THE PRESENT TIME. CONSUMER HAS YET TO CONTACT THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

CAR ROLLED-OVER VERY EASILY AFTER GOING OFF ROAD WHEN DRIVE LOST CONTROL ON ICY SURFACE. MY CONCERN IS BASED ON THE CAR ROLLING OVER TOO EASILY. DO NOT BELIEVE THE GRADE THAT CAUSE THE ROLL OVER WOULD HAVE CAUSED ANY OTHER VEHICLE TO ROLL. THIS INDICATES TO ME THAT THE VW BEETLE MAY NOT BE DESIGNED CORRECTLY.
WHILE DRIVING AT 20-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN REGARDLESS OF BRAKING BY THE DRIVER. OIL PAN FAILURE WAS FOUND OUT TO BE THE CAUSE. *YH
