ERROR. SERVICE VEHICLE. ONLY LEAVE VEHICLE IN P POSITION
ENGINE LOOSING COOLANT, DEALERSHIPS FAILS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. FAULTY WATER PUMP THAT VW FAILED TO DIAGNOSE TWO TIMES.
PERSISTENT COOLANT MIGRATION PROBLEM, WHEREIN COOLANT MIGRATES THROUGH WIRING HARNESS CONNECTION ON COOLANT RESERVOIR AND TRAVELS THROUGH THE WIRING HARNESS TO OTHER SENSORS AND ENGINE CONTROL EQUIPMENT ON THE VEHICLE, CORRODING AND DESTROYING KEY COMPONENTS OF THE CARS ELECTRONICS AND SAFETY CONTROL SYSTEMS. THIS REPAIR HAS COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO ADDRESS, AND IT STILL NOT SOLVED.
I'VE CUT MY HAND OPEN TWICE IN 18 HOURS ON SOME SHARP EDGED TRIM AROUND THE GEAR SHIFT JUST BY SHIFTING INTO PARK. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. FIRST HAPPENED 12/10 PM THEN AGAIN 12/11 AM. I NEEDED FIRST AID AS I WAS BLEEDING PRETTY BADLY, DID NOT NEED A DOCTOR.
VEHICLE IS LEAKING COOLANT. NEEDING TO REPLACE THERMOSTAT HOUSING/WATER PUMP ON VEHICLE. OUT OF WARRANTY. VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH 2015+ VW GTI VEHICLES.
I WAS SENT A RECALL NOTICE FROM VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA STATING THAT A MICRO SWITCH MAY BE FAULTY AND THAT I SHOULD SCHEDULE AN INSPECTION IMMEDIATELY. I SCHEDULED SERVICE AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. MORE RECENTLY, I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE DETAILING THE RECALL AND REMEDY AND WAS TOLD AGAIN BY THE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE.THIS SECOND RECALL NOTICE VERY CLEARLY STATES THAT THE REMEDY IS FOR THE DEALER TO INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL SWITCH AND CIRCUIT BOARD AND THAT IT WILL TAKE ABOUT AN HOUR. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A NOTICE TELLING ME TO GET MY CAR FIXED ASAP, BUT THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, MY VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION AS I PRESS ON THE GAS AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE RIGHT AWAY. ALSO AS I'M IN PARK OR IDLING IN TRAFFIC, THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF BUT THE VEHICLE LIGHTS WOULD STILL FUNCTION.
TRIM PEELING FROM SHIFTER PRODUCES A RAZOR SHARP EDGE. CUT MY FINGER ON IT, PRETTY DEEP CUT, BLEEDING PROFUSELY. CUT FROM RETRIEVING ITEMS FROM FRONT CUBBY.
2 YEARS AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR BRAND NEW THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW. AFTER CALLING THE DEALERSHIP THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TOP OFF THE RESERVOIR WITH DISTILLED WATER. IN FEBRUARY OF 2019 I HAD THE CAR IN FOR GENERAL SERVICE INCLUDING A COOLANT FLUSH AT A PRIVATE, LICENSED, VW MECHANIC. HE DISCOVERED MY WATERPUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING WAS LEAKING AND LIKELY HAD BEEN FOR A LONG TIME. HE REPLACED THE ASSEMBLY AND FILLED THE CAR WITH NEW COOLANT. IN AUGUST OF 2019 I DISCOVERED ONCE AGAIN MY COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW. UPON INSPECTING UNDERNEATH MY CAR I FOUND DRIED COOLANT ON MY OIL PAN. MY MECHANIC IS AGAIN TELLING ME THE WATERPUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING IS LEAKING AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE CARS COOLING SYSTEM AND DRIVING HABITS HAVE NOT CHANGED OVER THE LIFETIME OF THIS CAR. THE MECHANIC POINTED TO A POORLY DESIGNED SEAL ON THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING WHERE THE LEAK OCCURED. THE REPLACEMENT HOUSING APPEARED SIMILAR IN DESIGN. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED ISSUE, A SLOW COOLANT LEAK, ON 2015+ VW GOLFS, GTIS, AND RS AND IN EXTREME CASES CAN LEAD TO AN OVERHEATED AND RUINED ENGINE. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT ROUGHLY 60,000 MILES, OUTSIDE OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY. THE 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED AT ROUGHLY 88,000 MILES.
FAILED WATER PUMP FIXTURE AND GASKETS AT 62000 MILES. LEAKING COOLANT CONSTANTLY AND WARNING LIGHT GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING
This razor blade sharp chrome trim near the shift nob and the small storage compartment is cutting my finger up every time I tried getting something out of the small compartment. This has already happened to me three times already while driving, it's like a paper cut and you look down to find a cut with blood dripping out of your finger. It is extremely dangerous when you are driving on the road when this happen, Volkswagen should have a recall on this chrome trim piece for the safety of all GTI owners period. I'm not the only one with this problem, many MK7 GTI owners are experiencing the same issue.
Plastic Thermostat Housing Failure-- Cracks and leaking coolant. While getting an oil change done at a local Volkswagen dealership, the mechanic pointed out that there is a coolant leak and showed me where the leak is coming from (Thermostat housing/water pump) The coolant is slowly seep out of the crack on the underside of the thermostat housing, I have been adding coolant every other week. As the loss of coolant often trips the low coolant warning if the level isn't maintained. I feel like I'm not the only one with this issue, after reading online Volkswagen community. Many 2015-2020 GTI owners are also having the same problem. The car overheated couple times when stuck in New York traffic, I would like Volkswagen manufacture to address this issue and give all the GTI owners an explanation to why their part fails less than a few years of ownership.
WHILE DRIVING, THE CEL CAME ON. WE HAD THE CAR SCANNED FOR CODES. RESEARCHING THE CODES, WE BELIEVED THE ISSUE TO BE CRANK WALK. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL SHOP WHO CONFIRMED THAT THRUST WASHERS HAD DISLODGED AND BEGUN DETERIORATING. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AS THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN WITHOUT CAUSING SIGNIFICANT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. MOST COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE ($3500 + LABOR). WE HAVE SPOKEN WITH VW AND PRESENTED THEM WITH 17 OTHER CASES OF THE SAME FAILURE SINCE 1/1/2019, BUT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO WORK WITH US SINCE WE DID NOT GO TO A VW DEALERSHIP. THE VW DEALERSHIP LABOR RATE IS ~50% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OUR SHOP WHICH IS EQUALLY AS QUALIFIED TO IDENTIFY AN ISSUE SUCH AS THIS. VW EXECUTIVE GROUP ADVISED ME THAT IF WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE, THERE WOULD BE POTENTIAL FOR GOOD FAITH ASSISTANCE BUT NOTHING IS GUARANTEED. THAT WOULD REQUIRE US BEING PREPARED TO TAKE ON UPWARDS OF $1000 ADDITIONAL EXPENSE FOR THE SAME REPAIR PROCESS. THIS EXPECTATION IS UNREASONABLE AND THIS TYPE OF FAILURE, WITH THE FREQUENCY WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO SEE INDICATES A SERIOUS ENGINEERING FLAW THAT IS COSTING OWNERS EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FOR REPAIR ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED.
THE TRIM AROUND THE DSG SHIFTER HAS DETERIORATED AND HAS LEFT BEHIND SEVERAL VERY SHARP EDGES. CUTS ON FINGERS AND HANDS HAPPEN FREQUENTLY WHEN USING THE SHIFTER NORMALLY TO CHANGE GEARS. TRIM AT THE BASE OF THE SHIFTER HAS ALSO DETERIORATED, COMMONLY CAUSING CUTS WHEN USING THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT JUST IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER. THIS VEHICLE HAS LIMITED MILES AND HAS PREDOMINATELY BEEN STORED IN A GARAGE.
PEELING TRIM BETWEEN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND SHIFTER IS RAZOR SHARP AND HAS CUT MY SKIN MULTIPLE TIMES. IN THE PICTURE IT IS THE CHROME PART.
SIMILAR TO OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE, THE TRIM SURROUNDING MY SHIFTER HAS CRACKED. THIS TRIM NOT ONLY GOES AROUND A PART MY HANDS TOUCH EVERYDAY WHILE DRIVING BUT SURROUNDS A STORAGE CUBBIE WHERE PEOPLE OFTEN STORE PHONES, WALLETS OR VARIOUS ITEMS. THE SPLITTING TRIM IS RATHER SHARP AND SLICED MY FINGER OPEN WHEN GRAZING IT EARLIER TODAY. ## VIN FAILED ## VOLKSWAGEN GTI 2015 ##
EVERY TIME I USE THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER, A CASCADE OF WASHER FLUID SEEPS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ON THE FLOOR MAT. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 1 MONTH. ALSO, I'VE NOTICE EVERY TIME IT RAINS, THE CEILING ON MY GTI GETS VERY WET DUE TO A LEAK POSSIBLY BECAUSE OF THE SUNROOF. I'LL PROVIDE A PICTURE WHEN IT RAINS NEXT TIME. SHIFT BOOT CENTER TRIM CHROME PLASTIC IS PRONE TO CRACKING, WHICH CAN POTENTIALLY CUT YOUR FINGERS.
I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2015 VW GTI. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. LIKE MOST GTI OWNERS, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A GREAT CAR. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS CAR, AND I PURCHASED THE CAR ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO WHEN IT HAD ABOUT 25,000 MILES ON IT. OVER THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH OIL LEAKAGE FROM THE CAR. THIS PAST WEEK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. THE ATTACHED RECORDS SHOW ALL THE ROUTINE CARE AND SPECIAL CARE THAT I HAD TO GIVE THIS CAR DURING THE PAST YEAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP FOUND PIECES OF PISTONS AND THE PISTON RING IN THE OIL DRIP PAN. THE PAPER WORK IS ATTACHED ALONG WITH A PICTURE. WHO EVER HEARD OF PISTONS FALLING APART IN A CAR THAT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES? THIS IS PREPOSTEROUS. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS THE THIRD CAR THIS YEAR ON WHICH HE WORKED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR NEEDS A NEW ENGINE TO A COST OF AT LEAST $10,000. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE ANYMORE AS IT HAS NO ACCELERATION. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS UNLESS SOMEONE WANTS TO PUT IN A NEW ENGINE. I AM SENDING THIS NOTE TO VARIOUS GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO NOTIFY THEM OF THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE CAR. IF I FIND OUT THAT OTHER CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM SUGGESTING A PATTERN OF DEFECTS COVERED UP BY THE MANUFACTURER, I WILL HIRE A LAWYER AND SEEK LEGAL REDRESS. IN THE MEANTIME, AS AN AVERAGE WORKER WHO WORKS FOR A LIVING, I AM OFF TO BUY A NEW CAR AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHICH HOPEFULLY WILL BE MORE RELIABLE. THIS WILL SET ME BACK AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD, ESPECIALLY SINCE I STILL HAVE PAYMENTS TO MAKE ON THE 2015 GTI WHICH RIGHT NOW IS COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. *TR
THE METALLIC TRIM AROUND THE SHIFTER BOOT GRADUALLY DEGRADES CAUSING SHARP METALLIC EDGES TO FORM. I HAVE BEEN CAUGHT ON THESE EDGES A FEW TIMES WHEN SHIFTING OR REACHING INTO THE CUBBY. A FEW OF THE TIMES BLEEDING FROM THE CUT HAS OCCURRED. THIS SAME METALLIC FINISH SEEMS TO BE ON THE START/STOP BUTTON. THE LETTERS WITH SHARP ANGLES (A, MOSTLY) BEND UP AND STAB THE USER WHEN TRYING TO START/STOP THE ENGINE.
WATERPUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING COVERED IN DRY COOLANT, LEAKING DUE TO WARPAGE OF THE PLASTIC PARTS USED MY VOLKSWAGEN. COOLANT NEEDS TO BE TOPPED OFF EVERY 3 MONTHS, VW SAID THEY DIDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AS THE PARTS FAIL AND WILL LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND DAMAGE/OVERHEATING TO THE ENGINE.
IN THE VW GTI THERE ARE VARIOUS INTERIOR TRIM BITS THAT ARE A PLASTIC WITH A CHROME PLATING ON THEM. THE ISSUE WITH THESE ARE, THAT IT EVENTUALLY BEGINS TO DETACH ITSELF FROM THE PLASTIC TRIM PIECES AND IS EXTREMELY SHARP LIKE A RAZOR BLADE. THE REASON FOR REPORTING IT IS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH SEVERAL PIECES IN MY OWN PERSONAL VEHICLE BOTH WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED AND IN MOTION. VW HAS A HISTORY OF REPLACING THESE PARTS UNDER WARRANTY ACCORDING TO FELLOW OWNERS, BUT THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE. THE PARTICULAR TRIM PIECE IN QUESTION IS RIGHT BEHIND THE GEAR SHIFTER AND IN FRONT OF THE CUBBY HOLE WHERE ONE WOULD PLUG IN THEIR MEDIA PLAYER OR CELLULAR PHONE ANY OTHER VARIOUS ITEMS USED THROUGH OUT THE DAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AS IT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE SLICED MY WRIST WHILE I REACHED INTO THE CUBBY TO RETRIEVE MY PHONE. THE FRUSTRATING PART IS THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS CAR HAS DRAWN BLOOD DURING DAILY USE. THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON HAS, THE GEAR SHIFTER HAS AND SO HAS THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WAS ONLY MY THUMB THAT WAS CUT IN THE PROCESS, BUT IT CUT VERY DEEP LIKE A RAZOR BLADE WOULD AND IT WAS A CHALLENGE TO GET IT TO STOP BLEEDING EVEN HOURS AFTER. NOW, THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT DRIVING HOME CERTAINLY WAS A CHALLENGE WITH BLOOD GUSHING FROM MY THUMB. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ACCORDING TO MANY OF THE ONLINE SITES THAT OWNERS OF THESE CARS FREQUENT. ONE WAS EVEN A CASE WHERE THEIR VERY YOUNG CHILD WAS REACHING IN THE STORAGE CUBBY FOR SOMETHING AND CUT THEMSELVES RATHER BADLY ON THAT PIECE OF TRIM. IF IT CAN CUT DEEPLY LIKE A RAZOR BLADE, IT IS NOT IMPLAUSIBLE THAT IT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY CUT THEIR WRIST AND CAUSED A MUCH MORE SERIOUS INJURY. I HAVE YET TO REPORT TO VW MYSELF, BUT, AS THIS OCCURS TO MANY OWNERS, I FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO INSURE IT DOES NOT GO UNREPORTED TO NHTSA.
2015 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE REPAIRS RELATED TO SUCTION PUMP SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED EACH FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS.*JS *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A DRASTIC LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, METAL WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, AND THERE WAS EXCESSIVE SMOKE AND OIL. THE DEALER (FOX VOLKSWAGEN OF ROCHESTER HILLS, 773 S ROCHESTER RD, ROCHESTER HILLS, MI 48307, (248) 656-0400) DIAGNOSED THAT THE TURBO CHARGER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE.
THE CLOCKSPRING BROKE, I HAVE AN AIRBAG ERROR LIGHT ON AND NONE OF THE STEERING WHEEL FUNCTIONS WORK INCLUDING THE HORN. MANY OF THE 2015 VW VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT THE GTI IS NOT APART OF THE RECALL.. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT'S THE CLOCKSPRING
ON 12/20/2017, ENGINE FAILED @ 18050 MILES AND CAUSED INSTANTANEOUS LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC. ENGINE FAILED DIRECTLY OFF LAKESHORE DRIVE IN CHICAGO, WHICH HAS NO SHOULDER. A STRONG SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC AND RUBBER WAS EMANATING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER THE BREAKDOWN. VEHICLE WAS TOWED INTO DEALERSHIP AND REPAIR TOOK 40 DAYS, AS ENGINEERS IN GERMANY HAD TO BE CONSULTED ON THE PROPER REPAIR METHOD. SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME HE WAS "SURPRISED THEY DIDN'T PUT A NEW ENGINE INTO THE VEHICLE". UPON THE VEHICLES RETURN TO US, ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE REVS DROPPED SUDDENLY AND WE EXPERIENCE A SEVERE DROP IN ENGINE POWER FOR 2-3 SECONDS, ONCE WHILE TURNING AND TRAFFIC WAS HEADING TOWARDS OUR CAR. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALER FOR FURTHER REPAIR BUT NO ISSUES WERE FOUND AND WE WERE ASKED TO TRY TO GET VIDEO RECORDINGS OF THE ISSUE. TO DATE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR 45 DAYS, AND THE ISSUE ALMOST RESULTED IN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. THE STERLING WHEEL WILL MAKE A CRUNCHING NOISE WHILE MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT HAND TURNS. AT POINT OF FAILURE I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN THEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE CRUNCHING NOISE STOPPED, AND I GOT ERROR AIR BAG, ERROR TRANSMISSION, AND THE HORN STOPPED WORKING.
REAR ENDED SOMEBODY FRONT CAR IS SMASHED AND AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY
CAR WITH 9000 MILES HAD BRAKE FAILURE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BARELY STOPPED. TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD MASTER CYLINDER ON A CAR WITH 9K MILES, AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH THERE ARE MULTIPLE CASES OF THIS SIMILAR ISSUE.
I HAD MY CAR'S SUCTION PUMP REPLACED WHEN IT WAS RECALLED. AS FAR AS I KNOW, IT COULD DAMAGE THE CHARCOAL CANISTER FILTER DUE TO FUEL ACCUMULATION. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER SUCTION PUMP WAS REPLACED, I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A LEAKING CHARCOAL CANISTER. TRIED ASKING FOR A REFUND FROM VW BUT THEY SAID THEY CAN'T GIVE ME A REFUND AS THE RECALL WAS ALREADY CLOSED. I'M UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER HAS BEEN DAMAGED BY THE FAULTY SUCTION PUMP BEFORE IT WAS REPLACED AND IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE IT REALLY BROKE DOWN. THING IS, I NEVER KNEW HOW THE RECALL WILL AFFECT MY CAR UNTIL I READ HOW THE THING WORKS IN CREDIT KARMA APP.
WATWR PUMP IS LEAKING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2011-2014 AND OBVIOUSLY STILL NOT FIXED MY VEHICLE HAS 63K AND NOW WATER PUMP IS LEAKING IN SAME MANNER THE 2011-2014 ARE WHICH WAS RECALLED.
WE HAVE WHAT WE CONSIDER TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY PROBLEM WITH OUR 2105 GTI (AUTOBAHN VERSION) AND THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAGS. MY WIFE HAS A HIP PROBLEM AND HAS TO USE A SEAT CUSHION THAT IS OVER 2' THICK WHILE RIDING AS A PASSENGER. THAT WORKS WELL IN OUR SUBARU OUTBACK THAT USES A LOAD CELL TO DETECT THE PASSENGER'S PRESENCE BUT IT DOESN'T WORK WITH OUR GTI AND VW'S SYSTEM, SO THERE IS NO PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG PROTECTION. WE'VE TRIED A NUMBER OF APPROACHES TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM AND HAVING THE AIRBAG ACTIVATE WHEN THERE IS A PERSON SEATED ON THE CUSHION INCLUDING: 'CALLING YOUR CHAT LINES A COUPLE OF TIMES WHERE THE PEOPLE ON THE OTHER END HAVE BEEN POLITE BUT HAVE DONE LITTLE OTHER THAN SUGGEST WE CONTACT THE DEALER. 'TALKING WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE AT BURDICK VW. THEY SAY THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM (!) AND HAVE NO IDEA AS TO HOW TO SOLVE IT. 'SEARCHING THE WEB FOR A SOLUTION, ONLY TO FIND THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. 'TRYING SEVERAL HOMEMADE SOLUTIONS THAT MIGHT DUPLICATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HUMAN BODY WITHOUT SUCCESS. WE'RE AT THE POSITION WHERE I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE EXPOSING MY WIFE TO ADDITIONAL RISK, BUT WE BOTH REALLY LIKE THE GTI FOR ITS OTHER CREATURE COMFORTS AND ECONOMY. I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW WE CAN PROPERLY ACTIVATE THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG AND STILL USE THE SEAT CUSHION. (WE CERTAINLY WOULDN'T MIND SOMETHING SIMPLE OR HOMEMADE.)
AFTER DRIVING HOME FROM THE GAS STATION AFTER REPLACING MY TIRES GOING ABOUT 50MPH. MY BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT AND E BRAKE ON THE CITY STREET. I TOOK IT TO THE FIRESTONE MECHANIC. THINKING THE HIT A LINE OR CUT A LINE ON ACCIDENT. AFTER INSPECTION NOTHING WAS CUT OR BROKEN. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD IT REVILED NO BRAKE FLUID AT ALL. AFTER REMOVING PARTS IT WAS THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING IN THE FIREWALL. AFTER GOING ONLINE TO THE FORUMS I NOTICED OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP FOR VOLKSWAGEN ARE TRYING TO BLAME THEM.. BUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN OPEN THE HOOD. I HAD OTHER WORK DONE BY THEM WITH NO PROBLEMS EVER. I WILL HAVE DOCUMENTATION AS MY CAR IS BEING WORKED ON. I COULD OF DIED IF I DIDN'T THINK FAST OR IF I WAITED TILL THE LAST MIN TO BRAKE.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN JACKSONVILLE, FL WHEN MY SUNROOF SUDDENLY EXPLODED SENDING GLASS SHARDS EVERYWHERE. THE GLASS BROKE FROM THE INSIDE OUT BASED ON THE ORIENTATION OF THE REMAINING SHARDS ATTACHED TO THE SUNROOF FRAME. THIS WAS AT 8:45AM WHILE TRAVELING IN MORNING WORK TRAFFIC. THE LOUDNESS AND INTENSITY OF THE GLASS BREAKING NEARLY CAUSED ME LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. TOM BUSH VOLKSWAGEN JACKSONVILLE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO COVER THE DAMAGE EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. I RECEIVED MINOR SCRAPES FROM THE INCIDENT.
MY CAR STARTS TO FEEL LIKE IT'S GOING TO DIE OUT. THERE IS A TICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE THAT COMES AND GOES WHEN IDLED. I'VE INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIND WHAT THE TICKING NOISE IS.
POWER STEERING TURNS STICK RANDOMLY AT ANY SPEED, REQUIRING ME TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART ONLY TO GET THE STEERING BACK TO NORMAL. VERY SCARY AS MORE EFFORT HAS TO BE INPUT I TO THE STEERING FOR IT TO WORK. ENGINE STALLS AND CUTS OUT RANDOMLY ESPECIALLY ON IDLE. HAS CAUSED SEVERAL ISSUES WHEN DRIVING.
THE CLUTCH OPERATION IN MY 2015 VOLKSWAGE GTI (6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION) IS MALFUNCTIONING TO SUCH A DEGREE THAT I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT AND NOW FEAR FOR MY SAFETY. CLUTCH OPERATION IN THE VEHICLE HAS BECOME UNPREDICTABLE, WHEN DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL REMAIN ON THE FLOOR AFTER THE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THUS PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE STATIONARY IN TRAFFIC, WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE ACCELERATING. MOST RECENTLY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY THE CLUTCH PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR, THIS NEARLY FORCED ME TO TAKE EVASIVE STEPS INTO A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND SERVICE. I HAVE HEARD OF SEVERAL ALARMINGLY SIMILAR REPORTS FROM OTHER 2015 GTI OWNERS WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS A FAILED ENGINE BEARING THAT RESULTS IN SIDE-TO-SIDE CRANKSHAFT MOVEMENT IN THE ENGINE.
FIRST ISSUE I HAD WAS ABOUT TWO YEARS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE WAS WITH MY GEAR BOX. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC "DSG" TRANSMISSION WHICH BEGAN GIVING AN ERROR LIGHT TELLING ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WHICH ENDED UP REPLACING THE WHOLE BOX UNIT DO TO AN ELECTRICAL SENSOR NOT READING WHEN I'D ENGAGE INTO DRIVE. I WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS COST FREE BUT ANOTHER YEAR LATER THE SAME ERROR IS COMING OUT AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN BUT I'M NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I'D HAVE TO PAY. I FEEL THAT'S PRETTY UNFAIR AND UNACCEPTABLE KNOWING ITS HAPPEN ONCE AND WAS REPLACED BY PROFESSIONALS YET I'M STUCK WITH THE SAME SITUATION. I FEEL THIS PART SHOULD HAVE CAME WITH SOME SORT OF GUARANTEE AFTER BEING REPLACED. I GOT THIS CAR IN NOVEMBER OF 2015 AND IT'S PRETTY SAD THAT IN UNDER 4 YEARS I'M EXPERIENCING THIS SCENARIO. NOW I FEAR OF DRIVING KNOWING THAT ERROR WILL COME ON AT SOME POINT OR WORSE SOMETHING HAPPEN WITH MY GEARS AND THE CAR BE PUT IN ANOTHER GEAR AT RANDOM. AND NOW I'M BEING PLACED IN ANOTHER SITUATION IN WHICH MY WATERPUMP IS LEAKING COOLANT WHICH I FIND VERY UPSETTING KNOWING VOLKSWAGEN HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE 201-2014 GTI MK6 AND HAD A RECALL YET IT SEEMS THE PROBLEM CONTINUES WITH THE FOLLOWING GENERATION. AND IT'S SAD TO SAY BUT I'M AT THE POINT OF CALLING CORPORATE AND SEEING WHAT THEY CAN DO BECAUSE I HAVEN'T EVEN HIT 50,000 MILES AND THIS IS HAPPENING. AND BOTH OF THIS PARTS ARE PRETTY PRICEY WHEN IT COMES TO LABOR. AT THIS POINT I CAN ONLY HOLD OFF AND SAVE TO HOPEFULLY GET THE WATER PUMP REPLACED BUT AS FAR AS FOR THE TRANSMISSON ISSUE I'LL WAIT TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE BECAUSE I FEEL THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY VOLKSWAGEN.
WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THE 3 RECALLS ON OUR 2015 VW GTI. STARTED INVESTIGATING AFTER OUR 2015 VW PASSAT HAS THE BAD AIRBAGS IN THEM. ALSO OWN THE GTI AND WE INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF THE BAD AIRBAGS ARE IN THERE TOO. THAT IS WHEN WE FOUND PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL PUMP WHICH WAS RECALLED IN JUNE 2015, WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED, ALSO A FUEL LEAK OF AN IGNITION SOURCE...NEVER NOTIFIED AND A LOOSE STABILIZER LINK IN THE STEERING. WHO WANTS TO DRIVE THIS CAR. WHY WERE WE NOT NOTIFIED OF THESE THREE RECALLS. WE NEVER MOVED, I WANT AN ANSWER AS THIS CAR IS ALWAYS IN USE. WE WERE REALLY UPSET WITH THE PASSAT THAT WE GOT RID OF IT AND THANK GOD WE HAD GOTTEN RID OF OUR OTHER NEW PASSAT LAST YEAR ONLY TO BUY ANOTHER LEMON AND UNSAFE VEHICLE FROM VW......THIS BEING THE GTI. PLEASE GET BACK TO US. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS LIFE THREATENING, YOU WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. YOU ARE IGNORING YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO AT ONE TIME LOVED THEIR VEHICLES....NOW THEY ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THEM....BUT STILL MUST PAY FOR THEM. MAYBE WE NEED A CAR REPLACEMENT FROM VW FOR THIS GTI FOR NOT LETTING US KNOW. NOT EVEN SURE IF THIS GTI HAS THE BAD AIRBAGS AS YOUR 800 NUMBER KEEPS ME ON THE LINE ON HOLD FOR OVER AN HOUR I JUST THINK YOU DON'T WANT TO ANSWER.
I ENCOUNTERED A CLOSE RED LIGHT AND BRAKED HARD ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE ABS FROM 35 MPH IN DRY ROAD CONDITIONS ON A SUBURBAN HIGHWAY. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND APPLIED GAS AFTER THE GREEN LIGHT, THE CAR BEGAN TO TRAVEL BACKWARDS! I BRAKED AGAIN AND FOUND THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER HAD GONE INTO THE REVERSE POSITION. I BELIEVE THE BRAKING DECELERATION CAUSED THE GEAR SHIFTER TO TRAVEL FORWARD AGAINST ANY MECHANICAL RESTRAINT AND COME TO REST IN THE REVERSE SETTING.
THE TPMS SYSTEM FAILED TO WARN OF LOW PRESSURES, INCLUDING FLAT TIRES AND DRIVING ON A SPARE. TPMS FAILURES SHOULD "FAILSAFE" AND NOT FAIL SILENTLY.
COOLANT LEAK AND STRONG SMELL AFTER DRIVING THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. GRADUAL COOLANT LOSS IN THE RESERVOIR. VW REDESIGNED THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND WATER PUMP AFTER RAMPANT 2015 MODEL YEAR FAILURES.
THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT DOOR FAILS TO SEAL SECURELY WHEN IT SHUTS. THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY SYSTEM DOES DO NOT INDICATE THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN AT REST. THE SYSTEM DOES INDICATE THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IN MOTION.
UPON BRAKING, THE BRAKE PEDAL CAME OFF RESULTING IN MY ALMOST REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME.
WAS DRIVING ALONG WITH TRAFFIC AND I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, THE ENGINE RPMS JUMPED AND THERE WAS A MASSIVE LOSS IN SPEED AND POWER. THE TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR. PULLED OVER AS SOON AS WAS SAFE. I WAS CONCERNED AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOSS IN POWER AND SPEED WITH NO FAULT TO THE DRIVER, MYSELF. THE DASH SHOWED "ERROR: TRANSMISSION. REVERSE NOT POSSIBLE." THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR EVALUATION. UPDATED 09/01/2015*LJ UPDATED 10/20/2017*CN
THE DEALERSHIP LEFT THE SHIPPING BLOCKS/PUCKS/DISCS ON THE STRUTS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS EVIDENCED THROUGH MANY ONLINE FORUMS. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANY OTHERS CLAIM THAT THIS DOES NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THE BLOCKS PREVENT THE SUSPENSION FROM DOING ITS JOB, WHICH IS ABSORBING IMPACT, IMPROVING BRAKING, AND HELPING THE WHEELS MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. I DROVE OVER 18000 MILES NOT REALIZING THAT THEY WERE ON (I JUST THOUGHT I HAVE A TIGHT SUSPENSION). I HAVE NOW LOST 4 TIRES (PREMATURE WEAR AND BUBBLES/PUNCTURES) AND HAVE DAMAGE TO THE STRUT AND STEERING KNUCKLE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MISTAKE.
