2000 VW JETTA - SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS WITH THE 2000 VW GOLF FUEL SYSTEM. CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING AND WOULDN'T START. CAR WAS LEAKING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS. I HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP LAST YEAR (2004) AND THIS TIME HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL LINE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BY THE DEALER BECAUSE IT COULD'VE CAUSED A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. DEALER USED NEW PARTS TO REPLACE FUEL LINE.
MY CAR HAD RECALL #04V096000 PERFORMED APPROX 1.5 YEARS AGO (A SWITCH WAS REPLACED). THAT SAME SWITCH HAD BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE. IT IS THE SWITCH THAT DETECTS WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE PRESSED THE BRAKE, ALLOWING ME TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. SOMETIMES IT ALSO AFFECTS MY BRAKE LIGHTS, CAUSING THEM TO NOT TURN ON WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. HOWEVER, ON MAY 14, 2005 I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER THE RECALL. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. THIS TIME IT DID AFFECT THE BRAKE LIGHTS - THEY WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO A FUSE, BUT DUE TO THAT SWITCH, AND THAT THE TWO ARE CONNECTED. WHEN THE SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS THE BRAKE LIGHTS COULD MALFUNCTION AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SWITCH (AGAIN). THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THAT PART HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURES SUCH AS A SHORT TO THE GROUND WHICH REQUIRED A NEW FUEL PUMP RELAY, ESP LIGHT WHICH INDICATED A BAD BRAKE LIGHT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING A BAD ABS PUMP AND RELAY. NOTICE CLUNKING AND SCHREECHING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INFORMED OF LOWERCONTROL ARM DEFECTIVE. CAR CONTINUED TO MAKE CLUNKING SOUND WHEN TURNING, MECHANIC DIAGNOSED UPPER CONTROL (BALL JOINT) FAILURE.
A/C WILL NOT GET COLD. WE TESTED THE PRESSURE AND THERE IS A LEAK. MY CAR ONLY HAS 29,000 MILES AND IT IS GOING TO COST AROUND $800 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *JB
I AM THE PRIMARY REPAIR PERSON FOR THIS VEHICLE. OVER ITS HISTORY, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPONENT FAILURES THAT IN MY OPINION ARE UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE WITH THIS MILEAGE AND AGE. I PERSONALLY KNOW THE OWNER, AND KNOW THAT IT IS NOT OPERATED UNDER UNUSUALLY HARSH CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR COSMETIC CRASH EARLY ON, OTHERWISE, THERE HAVE BEEN NO UNUSUAL OUTSIDE FACTORS. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR HAS ONLY 37,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. PRIMARY USE IS ON LONG TRIPS. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND STORED FOR ABOUT 3-6 MONTHS EACH YEAR. FIRST PROBLEM: AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM LEAK: THE EXPANSION VALVE FAILED, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. CHECK ENGINE/ MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT: HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES, EACH TIME WITH THE SAME DTC, A MANUFACTURER SPECIFIC CODE RELATED TO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. THE POWER WINDOWS HAVE FAILED, ULTIMATELY RESULTING IN FREE REPAIR OF THE WINDOWS WITH A REVISED RETAINING CLIP, AS THIS PROBLEM OCCURS FAR TOO OFTEN, AND FINALLY, THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAVE WORN COMPLETELY WITH THE FRONT PADS IN VIRTUALLY NEW CONDITION. THIS IS ACCOMPANIED BY ALL FOUR ROTORS BEING EXCESSIVELY PITTED, WITH LARGE AREAS OF THE ROTOR FACE ACTUALLY FLAKING OFF. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT I MAY END UP NEEDING TO REPLACE THE REAR CALIPERS, AS WELL, DUE TO POOR DESIGN. *JB
1) NO EVENTS OR PRIOR WARNING OF FAILURE. 2) FAILURE -- KEY LOSES PROGRAMMING AND CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH ELECTRONIC IMMOBILIZER. CAR CANNOT BE STARTED AND MUST BE TOWED TO DEALER FOR REPROGRAMMING OF KEYS. *AK 3) LOST PROGRAMMING OF KEY IN JUNE 2004 WHILE CAR PARKED AT HOME. CAR TOWED TO DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED KEYS. OCCURRED AGAIN ON 3/9/05 WHILE 70 MILES FROM HOME. CAR TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED THE ONLY KEY -- THE SPARE & VALET KEYS NOW INOPERATIVE, REQUIRING CAR TO BE DELIVERED TO DEALER TO GET ALL 3 KEYS REPROGRAMMED TO MATCH.
FIVE SEPARATE PARTS OF THE COOLING SYSTEM HAVE FAILED WITHIN A SIX MONTH PERIOD. TWO COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THREE MORE RESULTING IN APPROXIMATELY $1400 IN REPAIRS. WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, AND RADIATOR HOSE ALL WERE REPLACED. ALSO REPLACED A FLANGE AND A PLASTIC PIPE. *NM
AT 46,747 MILES CHANGE-OVER-VALVE/INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. INTERNATIONAL AUTO BODY MECHANIC DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AS REQUIRING A NEW INTAKE MANIFOLD. VW OF AMERICA FIXED PROBLEM UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY BUT CHANGED VALVE NOT MANIFOLD. VALVE FAILED AGAIN IN 10 MONTHS BUT WARRANTY HAS NOW EXPIRED AND COVERAGE HAS BEEN REFUSED. WARRANTY WORK PERFORMED DID NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM BUT SERVED ONLY TO ALLOW WARRANTY TO EXPIRE. *JB
2000 VW JETTA, VR6 ENGINE, 49,3331 MILE. WHENEVER MY CAR WAS IDLE FOR MORE THAN 6-8 HOURS AND WAS EXPOSED TO RAINY\WET WEATHER, THE ENGINE WOULD EXPERIENCE PERFORMANCE ISSUES. IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE CAR UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, THE ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND SOUND LIKE IT WAS ON THE VERGE OF STALLING. IF I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT LETTING IT FULLY WARM-UP, THE ENGINE WOULD EXPERIENCE A SEVERE PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION, CHARACTERIZED BY POOR, ROUGH ACCELERATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ALSO ILLUMINATE, AND I WOULD RECEIVE THE EMISSIONS WORKSHOP WARNING MESSAGE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 1-2 YEARS. AT FIRST THE PROBLEM WAS MILD, BUT OVER TIME IT WORSENED. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION COIL AND IGNITION LEADS NEEDED REPLACEMENT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THESE PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND THUS FAR THE ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE HAS NOT REAPPEARED. VW ISSUED AN IGNITION COIL RECALL FOR VARIOUS OTHER 2001, 2002 AND 2003 MODELS. IT APPEARS THE IGNITION COIL RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER MODEL YEARS AS THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF PART THAT SHOULD NEED REGULAR REPLACEMENT. IT'S QUITE OBVIOUS THERE'S A DEFECT WITH THIS PART.
THE ABS MODULE HAS AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT FAILURE. THE WARNING LIGHT AND BEEPER CANNOT BE DISCONNECTED. THE BRAKES ARE OK BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUE TO ACTIVATE SPORADICALLY. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONE WEEK AGO. HAD OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED 3 DAYS AGO BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED THAT IT NEEDED. TODAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND WON'T GO AWAY. CAN'T AFFORD TO SPEND MONEY HAVING MECHANICS "ATTEMPT" TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I KNOW IT'S A COMMON VW JETTA ISSUE AND I WANT SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT! *NM
MOST RECENTLY, THE WATER PUMP FAILED. APPARENTLY THIS IS ANOTHER COMMON FAILURE, WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL. HERE IS THE LIST OF OTHER PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD: -BOTH WINDOW REGULATORS FAILED (COVERED BY RECALL) -TENSIONER PULLEY ON SERPENTINE BELT FAILED AT 40000 MILES ($400) -MAF SENSOR AT 47000 MILES (COVERED BY RECALL) -CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED 50000 MILES (COVERED BY EMISSIONS RECALL) -ALTERNATOR FAILED AT 55000 MILES ($450 - USING REBUILT ALTERNATOR) -WATER PUMP FAILED AT 60,000 MILES ($350 REPAIR BILL). THE QUESTION IS...WHAT'S NEXT? I PLAN TO SELL THE CAR WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. *JB
MY DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED, CAUSING THE WINDOW TO FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THIS REQUIRED DRIVING HOME FOR SEVERAL MILES IN WEATHER APPROACHING ZERO DEGREES. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH VW'S, AS THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MY MOM'S VW BEETLE (1999). *JB
JACK SUPPLIED WITH VEHICLE WOULD NOT HOLD VEHICLE UP AND SLIPPED OUT DAMAGING BODY OF THE VEHICLE. CAR IS A 2000 VW JETTA. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK AND WAS ADVISED BY TOW TRUCK DRIVER THAT VW JACK'S WERE USELESS UNLESS YOU HAD A PERFECTLY FLAT SURFACE. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2000 VPLKSWAGEN JETTA IN THE YEAR 2002, PRE-OWNED. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT, AND NOW AM TRADING IT IN, AND TAKING A $3000 LOSS. HERE IS A LIST OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD IN THE LAST 2 YEARS LISTED FROM FIRST PROBLEMS TO MOST RECENT: 1. WINDOW TRAY BROKE, WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. $300 2. TRUNK LATCH BROKE, HAD TO GET REPLACED $50 3. SUNROOF BROKE, WOULD NOT MOVE AND NEEDED THE ENTIRE THING REPLACED INCLUDING THE MOTOR. $1800 4. WATER PUMP LEAKED OUT ALL COOLANT, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED $ 600 5. STRUT COIL SNAPED IN HALF WHILE DRIVING, NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES $500 6. LASTLY, (THIS IS THE POINT WHEN I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND TRADE THE CAR IN FOR ANOTHER BRAND) WATER LEAKING FROM THE ELECTRICAL PANEL ON TOP OF INSIDE ROOF. SUNROOF THEN MALFUNCTIONED, OPENING WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED AND THE KNOB WAS NOT TOUCHED. HAD TO PAY TO DISCONNECT POWER SUNROOF. WHATEVER YOU DO, PLEASE, DO NOT BUY A VW JETTA. THAT IS UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE IT CONTINUALLY IN THE SHOP AND HAVING TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON REPAIRS. *AK
THERE IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND HALF. THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP HAS REPAIRED IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I AM GETTING REALLY WORRIED THAT ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMETHING REALLY BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN,AND I MAY BE INJURED. I WOULD BUY ANOTHER CAR BUT I SIMPLY CAN'T AFFORD IT. AFTER FIXING AN EXHAUST 3 TIMES WHO COULD AFFORD ANYTHING ELSE. I AM A LOYAL VOLKSWAGEN OWNER AND THIS IS THE SECOND VW I HAVE OWNED AND I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE OTHER CARS. SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE. ANNOYING!!WE HAVE A 2000 PASSAT W/AN ABS WARNING LIGHT & CHIMES THAT HAVE BEEN COMING ON SINCE NOV. 2004 WHEN THE CAR HAD APPROX 50-65,000 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE HAD QUOTES OF$900 & 1300 FOR REPAIRS. BUT THEY ALWAYS SAY IT"S A SHORT IN THE MODULE. NO PROBLEM, I HOPE NOT. BECAUSE WE ARE NOT COMPLAINING. GETTING IT REPAIRED. WE ARE SICK & TIRED OF THIS POORLY MADE MONEY PIT CAR IT MAY BE THE FIRST CAR WE TRADE IN. . WHY CAN'T THERE BE DARN RECALL WITH ALL OF US. VW HAS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE MANNER. WHILE DRIVING, THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE CLUTCH BECAME STUCK AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO JIGGLE THE GEAR. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *BF AC COMPRESSOR FAILED. NEW BATTERY WENT DEAD. FOUR WINDOW FAILURE DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. *TC
THE VEHICLE WAS SLIGHTLY OVER A YEAR OLD WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED. *NM RECALL# 04V096000. *SC
WHILE PARKED, PANELS LOCATED UNDER ENGINE AND SIDE PROTECTANT PIECES, BECAME UNATTACHED. DEALERSHIP TRIED TO BLAME ON DRIVER- WHICH ISN'T TRUE, AS THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN IN THREE DAYS - ALL PANELS SHOW FATIGUE, AND SOME ODD-CRACKING DAMAGE. SECOND REPAIR SHOP SHOW DEMONSTRATED WEAK SCREWS, CRACKING ALONG MOUTING POINTS, AND THE BUMPER BECOMING UNATTACHED. INCLUDING DAMAGE TO THE SCREWS THEMSELVES, WITH PREMATURE RUSTING, AND THE SCREW'S HEADS COMPLETLEY FALLING OFF. WHILE BEING TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, ALL PANELS BECAME DETACHED. (3 PC SYSTEM) THIS IS A CERTIFIED-USED VEHICLE - ORG. FROM IL SOLD IN MN. VEHICLE WAS IN DEALERSHIP THAT WEEK FOR OIL CHANGE, DEALERSHIP REPORTED NO PROBLEMS - HOWEVER AFTER THE FACT, THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE. VW WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AS THEY FEEL THAT IT WAS NOT CAUSED BE THE SCEWS MALFUNCTIONING, BUT BY "ADDED AND UNKNOWN STRESS INCREASES.*AK
HAZARD SIGNALS FAIL TO BLINK OR FLASH. ON OCCASION, THEY FLASH A FEW TIMES THEN STOP.*AK
MY CAR HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT AND LIKE MANY OTHERS ON THIS SITE IT HAS SUFFERED PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM WITH EACH ONE GETTING MORE SERIOUS. I HAVE REPLACED A MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR,GLOVE BOX,TURBO PARTS,AND SOME PLASTIC CLIPS ON THE ARM REST. BUT, WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER, FUEL GAUGE STARTED ACTING UP, AND THE FACT THAT THIS CAR HAS STALLED ON US THREE OR MORE TIMES RECENTLY (WHILE OUT DRIVING),THEN SAFETY BECOMES AN ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER COMING AND GOING OR THE STALLING PROBLEM, AS FOR THE FUEL GAUGE, WE JUST FILL UP FOR EVERY 280 MILES PUT ON THE TRIPMETER. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATES THE RECALL FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAS BEEN REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
THE CAR TRANSMISSION STALLED ABOUT 4 TIMES. EACH TIME (4 TIME) I TOOK THE CAR TO THE VW DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEN THE CAR BROKE DOWN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE VW DEALERSHIP THEN THE DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED IT AS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE COST TO REPAIR THE CAR IS $4000. ALSO, NO OTHER DEALERSHIP OR AUTO REPAIR SHOP HAS SERVICED THIS CAR EXCEPT MILLER VW. *NM
NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. PERIODICALLY THE BRAKING PRESSURE WAS RELEASED AND A PEDAL PULSE WAS FELT WHILE STOPPING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM TO THE ABS PUMP LEAKED INTO THE ABS MODULE. *JB THE CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN A PARKING LOT AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKES RELEASING CAUSING HER TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PERSON IN THE OTHER VEHICLE SOUGHT MEDICAL TREATMENT. *SC
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. *AK
THE TURN SIGNAL/CRUIS CONTROL HANDLE FELL OFF, PREVENTING THE OPERATOR FROM SIGNALING AN INTENT TO TURN. THE HANDLE WAS NOT DAMAGED IN ANY WAY TO CAUSE IT TO FALL OFF OTHER THAN NORMAL USE. THE HANDLE IS DANGLING BY ITS WIRES TO THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE OPERATOR IS UNABLE TO SIGNAL AN INTENT TO TURN.*AK
MY VOLKSWAGEN 2000 PASSAT HAS A MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS ELECTRONIC UNIT. THIS MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN REPORTED FREQUENTLY AMONG AUDI AND VW CUSTOMERS. THE EARLY MALFUNCTION OF THIS VITAL VEHICLE SAFETY COMPONENT IS UNACCEPTABLE. *AK
FAILURE OF DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW - FIRST TIME, HOWEVER I EXPECTED IT TO HAPPEN SINCE I FOUND 53 COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE ALONE. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME TO ENCOUNTER MAJOR REPAIRS ON THIS CAR. JUST 4 WEEKS AGO PAID 1,100 DOLLARS TO REPLACE OIL PUMP AND MASS AIRFLOW METER. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL YET? *AK
2000 VW TDI MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH 65,000 MILES. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON, DEFINITE LOSS OF POWER, WORSE WHEN ENGINE HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE. CAR HAS NO ACCELERATION AND CAN NOT HOLD SPEED GOING UP RELATIVELY MINOR HILLS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER, SAID THAT THE WASTEGATE VALVE WAS STUCK BUT WAS OKAY NOW. PROBLEM REOCCURED. DEFINITE SAFETY PROBLEM ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE THERE IS NO ACCELERATION AVAILABLE TO THE DRIVER.*AK
WHEN ADJUSTING THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT STAYED ON. *AK *TC
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT LIQUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PLASTIC HOSE AND OTHER PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE FUEL HOSE HAD COME LOOSE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *SC
THE PLASTIC INSIDE FRONT FENDER LINER ON BOTH SIDES OF MY 2000 VW JETTA GLS TDI HAVE COME LOOSE IN THE FRONT AND ARE RUBBING AGAINST THE FRONT TIRES. I PURCHASED THIS CAR LESS THAN 5 MONTHS AGO, IT WAS CERTIFIED PRE OWNED CAR FROM A VW DEALER AND WAS GIVEN A 110 POINT INSPECTION. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR APPX 10,000 MILES SINCE PURCHASE WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS THAT MAY CAUSE THESE ITEMS TO COME LOOSE. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON AMONG THESE CARS AND IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM, FURTHERMORE, THEY ADVISED ME THAT THIS HAD TO BE DRIVER INDUCED DAMAGE, ALTHOUGH THEY NEVER INSPECTED IT. I CALLED THE VW CUSTOMER CARE LINE AND REQUESTED A FACTORY SERVICE REP COME AND ASSESS THE PROBLEM ONLY TO BE TOLD WHEN THEY CALLED ME BACK THAT THE DEALER TOLD THEM THAT I HAD DAMAGED THE CAR, SO THEY WOULD NOT SEND A FACTORY REP AND THE CASE HAS BEEN CLOSED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO RUBBING/INTERFERENCE WITH THE FRONT TIRES AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY KEEP SEVERAL REPLACEMENT PARTS IN STOCK DUE TO FREQUENCY. *JB
TURN SIGNAL ON MANY VOLKSWAGEN MODELS ACROSS MANY LATE 90'S AND EARLY MILLENNIUM MODELS (INCLUDING MY 2000 JETTA VR6) ARE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. IT SEEMS TO BE A SHARED RELAY/FLASHER WITH THE HAZARD SYSTEM OR THE HAZARD SWITCH (BUTTON) ITSELF. *LA
BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2000. 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO A CARWASH (HANDWASH) NO WAXING WAS DONE. THE NEXT DAY, THERE WERE SPOTS ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR. THE CLEAR COAT HAD COME OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IN SUNNYVALE, CA AND HE SAID IT WAS THE CARWASH COMPANIES FAULT. THEY HAD LEFT THE CAR OUT SIDE WITH WAX ON IT. I HAD NO PROOF THAT THE CAR WASN'T WAXED, BUT I DID NOT PAY FOR IT. THE NEXT PROBLEM HAPPENED IN 2003. MY O2 SENSOR WENT OUT. A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATER, THE MAF SENSOR WENT OUT. 5 MONTHS AFTER THAT, THE TURBO CUTOFF VALVE WENT BAD AND 1 DAY AFTER THAT WAS REPAIRED, THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DECIDED TO DROP INTO THE DOOR. THE CAR IS A 2000 WITH ONLY 55K MILES ON IT. IT HAS HAD ALL OIL CHANGES AND BASIC MAINTENCE DONE THAT IS NEEDED. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ALREADY!*AK
2000 VW JETTA 1.8 TURBO. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AROUND 35,000 MILES, REPLACED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR FOR $99.00 AFTER CALLING CORPORATE VW. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 45,000 MILES. REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AGAIN FOR FREE, REPLACED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, REPLACED TURBO SENSOR AND SEVERAL RELAYS FOR $280.00. REPLACED CLUTCH AT 51,000 MILES, FOUND OUT THEY USE THE SAME PARTS AS THE TDL ON THE TURBO CAR. CURRENTLY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET, MORE THAN LIKELY DUE TO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND TURBO SENSOR CAUSING ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE. ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS $1200.00. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH SHORTED AND CAR ACCELERATED IN EXCESS OF 80 MPH, AND WOULD NOT SHUT DOWN. ONLY WAY CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN IF CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH HELD MANUALLY TO OFF AS IT WOULD NOT PERMANENTLY SHUT OFF. BRAKING DID DECELERATE BUT ENGINE CONTINUED AT THE SAME RPM, AS CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH SHORTED OUT. THIS RESULTED IN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATING IN EXCESS SPEED OF 80 MPH. WHEN THIS OCCURRED CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION. THEN, VEHICLE STARTED TO DECELERATE. DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED, BUT IT WAS NOT INDICATED WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THEY ONLY STATED THE COST TO HAVE THE SWITCH REPLACED.*AK

2000 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLS VR6 HAS RECALL FOR FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.*MR THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED IT WAS DETERMINED A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NEEDED. IT WAS FINALLY DETERMINED THAT THE CONVERTER FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY COIL PACK. *JB
BOUGHT THE USED 2000 JETTA IN MAY 2004. A MONTH LATER IN THE DEALER BECAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. THEY CHANGED OXYGEN SENSOR. CAR STARTED STALLING/HESITATING AGAIN AND SEVERAL WEEKS LATER IN THE DEALER AGAIN. THEY CHANGED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. CONTINUED TO HESITATE/STALL AND WENT INTO SERVICE AGAIN AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. NO CODES ARE COMING UP SHOWING THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. THIS CAR IS GOING AGAIN ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 22, 2004 INTO DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN CORRECTED AND I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR THAT CANNOT BE CORRECTED. IT ONLY HAS 43,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THIS IS PROBABLY THE REASON IT WAS TRADED IN AND HAS LOW MILES.*AK
OWNER'S SON WAS DRIVING VOLKSWAGEN AND IT STARTED OVERHEATING. DURING THE COURSE OF THE EVENING, HE TRIED A FEW TIMES TO LET CAR COOL DOWN AND THEN CONTINUE DRIVING, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO OVERHEAT. HE MANAGED TO CONTINUE DRIVING AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VOLKSWAGEN. HE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND COASTED TO A STOP. HE GOT OUT AND NOTICED SPARKS DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FIRE. CAUSE UNDETERMINED, BUT SPARK PLUGS SHOWED EVIDENCE OF A RICH AIR/FUEL MIXTURE. *NM
VW JETTA TDI 1.9 LITTER DIESEL HAS EXTREMELY POOR FUEL MILEAGE. ADVERTISED IS TO GET 50 MI/GALLON. I GET AT BEST 40 MI/GALLON HIGHWAY AND AS LOW AS 25 MI/GALLON MIXED HIGHWAY/CITY. DEALER AVOIDS THE ISSUE BY SAYING LOW MILAGE IS DUE TO BAD FUEL, EXTREME COLD, POOR DRIVING HABITS. *AK

FROM STOP THE VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIME STALL. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE HAD A BAD MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR (MAF) AND WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK DID NOT ALWAYS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AND WOULD CAUSE THE ALARM TO SOUND. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. THE VEHICLE ALARM WOULD SOUND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. *SC

DURING HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A METAL BRIDGE, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. APPROXIMATE SPEED AT IMPACT 40 MPH. DRIVE & PASSENGER INJURED AND CAR FRONT END COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED. AWAITING INSURANCE CO. INVESTIGATION AS TO EXTENT OF DAMAGE, POSSIBLY TOTAL LOSS.*AK
THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW STARTED MAKING A WHISTLING NOISE AND WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL THE WINDOW UP IT DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DOOR AND BROKE. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND I JUMPED WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS IS A HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
