WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. AFTER DRIVING FOR ANOTHER 5 MILES, VEHICLE DIED COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT RESTART. DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. FUEL FILTER WAS CHANGED, AND CONDTIONER ADDED TO THE FUEL. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE TEMPERATURE WAS SIX DEGREES WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED IN ORDER TO THAW OUT. *AK
VEHICLE TAKEN IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM SIX TIMES, EACH TIME PROMPTED BY THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. CJ
ECU FAILURE: (5K MILES) ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER, ENGINE COMPUTER LIGHT LIT, ATTEMPED TO START USING 3 DIFFERENT POWER SOURCES (DEALER, TOW, ANOTHER CAR) FAILED - BATTERY FINE. ENGINE COMPUTER WAS RESET AFTER TEST INDICATED FAULTY COMPUTER SETTINGS. ERROR 2: (14K MILES) ENGINE DISPLAYED "EMISSIONS WORKSHOP" MESSAGE, MIL LIGHT LIT. DEALER REPORTED FAULTY ENGINE COMPUTER, REPLACED COMPUTER. ERROR 3: 20 MILES AFTER PICKING CAR UP FROM DEALER, ENGINE DISPLAYED "EMISSIONS WORKSHOP" MESSAGE, MIL LIT AGAIN. RETURNED TO DEALER, WHO REPLACED ECU A SECOND TIME. DEALER ALSO REPLACES MAF (MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR). THIS SEEMS TO HAVE RESOLVED THE ECU PROBLEMS... FOR NOW? ERROR 3: (15K MILES) PASSENGER POWER WINDOW FAILED WITH LOUD "POP" DEALER REPLACED WINDOW REGULATOR, STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT VW WAS WORKING ON A MORE ROBUST WINDOW DESIGN -- WILL FUTURE FAILURE BE REPLACED BY VW AFTER WARRENTEE PERIOD? ERROR 4: CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH FAILED, REPLACED BY DEALER.
AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON 5 TIMES.DEALER ATTEMPTED 4 TIMES TO FIX PROBLEM HAVE FAILED.CONCERN THAT WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED OR DEPLOY WHILE DRIVING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT WITH A STALLED VEHICLE, AND DRIVER'S/PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH DID NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN THIS CRASH. ALSO, THE SEATBELT DID NOT RETRACT, CAUSING DRIVER TO FLY INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUSTAIN INJURIES. DEALER DID INSPECT THE VEHICLE, AND DETERMINED NO PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG SYSTEM AND SEATBELT. *AK
FUEL FILLER NECK OBSTRUCTED WITH NOZZLE FLAP RETAINER. REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLY ORDER HAD TO BE RETURNED TO MANUFACTURER DUE TO DEFECT (PER INFORMATION PROVIDED BY DEALER SERVICE DEPT. REP.) *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAS NUMEROUS FAILURES IN DIFFERENT THINGS. RIGHT KNOW IT HAS HAD 3 NEW TRANSMISSION IN 18 MONTHS, THIS LAST ONE IS FAILING AGAIN. *AK
AT 35MPH W/AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON GLX MODEL, MAKE A VIBRATING NOISE THAT DISSAPEARS AT HIGHER SPEED. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPLACED, BUT NOISE STARTED AGAIN IN A SHORT TIME. FACTORY HAS NOT EMITTED A NOTIFICATION YET.*AK

BUMPER IS THE SAME COLOR AS CAR. BUMPERS ARE ATTACHED BY SNAPS UNDER CAR,RIGHT SIDE OF BUMPER CAME UNHOOKED. TOOK DEALER ABOUT 5 TIMES, CURRENTLY, OTHER SIDE IS COMING OFF.*AK
MULTIPLE AND VARIOUS DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY CAUSING COSTLY AND UNNECESSARY DEALER VISITS TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE OWNERS MANUAL. *TR
RT REAR AND LEFT REAR WINDOWS HAVE PINCH PROTECTION THAT ACTIVATE SOMETIMES WHEN THERE IS NOTHING IN THE WINDOW BLOKING IT AND I HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON 3 TIMES TO CLOSE IT AND AFTER THE SECOND TIME THE PINCH PROTECTION TURNS OFF. ...(2) THE RT FRONT SEAT BELT WILL NOT PULL DOWN ALL THE TIME IT FEELS LIKE IT IS LOCKED IN THE POSITION YOU MUST PULL HARD SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO WORK AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WON'T COME DOWN AT ALL. DRIVERS SIDE WORKS FINE, BUT PASS SIDE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL SOMETIMES. TOOK TO DEALER AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO TE SERVICE WORKER BUT THE SERVICE ADVISOR COULD NOT GET IT TO PULL DOWN, SERVICE WORKER TOOK APART AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG, BUT IT DID NOT WORK FOR ME THAT NIGHT I GOT IT HOME.
THE CAR CONSUMES AN OUTRAGEOUS 700-800 MILES PER QUART OF OIL, WHICH THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS IS NORMAL DUE TO ENGINE DESIGN. MY COMPLAINT IS THE FACT THAT THIS WAS NOT EVEN HINTED TO THE USER OR IS WRITTEN IN THE USER'S MANUAL AT THE TIME OF THE SALES. THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE FOR CUSTOMER, OR ON LONG DISTANCE TRIP, BE A SAFETY HAZARD. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED STALLING/CUTTING OFF COMPLETELY WITHIN 10 MINUTES OR LESS AFTER PULLING OFF DEALER'S LOT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. *AK

2000 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING FAULTY DESIGNED SYSTEM IN JETTA *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE DEALER TRIED TO COVER IT UP BY PUTTING NEW BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE. *JB
AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR, VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION. DEALER HAS VEHICLE NOW. *AK
THE PRESENTING PROBLEM WITH THIS JETTA 2000 IS THAT ON THREE (3) DATES, I TURNED THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE RAN FOR ONLY TWO SECONDS BEFORE DYING. DESPITE REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR RUNNING, THIS CONTINUED. THIS JETTA HAS BEEN TOWED THREE (3) TIMES FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. AS OF THIS DATE, THE CAR HAS ONLY 2300 MILES AND THE DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED.
WHEN DRIVING DOWN A HILL HEADLAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE FAR ENOUGH AHEAD TO SEE A PERSON IN THE ROAD. THERE IS A DISTINCT LINE AT EYE LEVEL AND ABOVE THAT IS NOT ILLUMINATED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE UP THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW AND WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR SINCE I DID NOT HAVE THE OPPURTUNITY TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR AFTER DARK. I HAVE CONTACTED CONSUMER RELATIONS SEVERAL TIMES, AND WAS TOLD THE CAR MEETS SAFETY STANDARDS. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM HOLDS THE DISTINCT POSSIBLITY OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IN THE FUTURE. *AK
THE O2 SENSOR FAILED. *MJS
ROTORS BEGAN MAKING NOISE AROUND 6000 MILES. DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RUST BUILDUP DESPITE THE CAR BEING DRIVEN DAILY. THE NOISE HAS BECOME MORE PRONOUNCED WITH INCREASED MILEAGE.
TRANSMISSION GRINDS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEARS. THE PROBLEM IS NEITHER SPEED OR RPM DEPENDENT.
WHILE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUTDOWN, AND BEGAN TO COAST BACKWARDS INTO A DITCH. CONSUMER GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ALL FUEL HAD BEGAN TO LEAK FROM FUEL LINE IN REAR. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK
MY 2000 JETTA HAS BEGAN BURNING OIL AT A RATE OF 3/4 QT TO 1 1/4 QT PER 1000 MILES. THE DEALER AND VOLKSWAGEN STATE THIS IS NORMAL BY THEIR STANDARDS AND THEY JUST CONTINUE TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AND TELL US TO COME BACK. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY OTHER NEW CARE THAT I HAVE OWNED. *AK
BACK REAR BRAKES GRINDED TO A STOP NEEDED NEW PADS & ROTORS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
BACK DOOR WINDOW REGULATORS MALFUNCTIONED UPON ACTIVATION, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE WINDOWS WERE ROLLED DOWN TO DEFOG, AND THEN FAILED WHEN TRYING TO CLOSE. I HAD TO PRESS THE BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES FOR THEM TO GO BACK UP. DEALER WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE THEY CANNOT "DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIPS AND SERVICE DEPARTMENTS, AND MANY FEEL IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THEY HAVE FAILED ON ME BEFORE, AND I DON'T WANT THIS HAPPENING WHEN I AM AWAY FROM HOME, LEAVING MY CAR VULNERABLE TO RAIN OR OTHER WEATHER DAMAGE, AS WELL AS THEFT AND VANDALISM.
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE IMPACT COLLISION IN WHICH SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH FRONT AND REAR AIR BAGS ALL FAILED TO DEPLOY. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
POWER WINDOW REGULATOR BREAKS PREMATURELLY CAUSING WINDOW TO FALL DOWN INTO DOOR. PROBLEM OCCURS WITH EITHER DOOR ON BOTH THE TWO DOOR AND FOUE DOOR JETTA AND GOLF. THERE IS A LONG LIST OF OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE RECIEVED VERY LITTLE ASSISTANCE FROM DEALER OR VW ABOUT ISSUE. DO A SEARCH FOR WINDOW REGULATORS AND VOLLA YOU WILL FIND A LONG LIST OF OWNERS HOW HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALERS AND TO VWOA ABOUT ISSUE. VWOA STANCE HAS NOT BEEN SET AS A WHOLE AS OF YET, IT SEEMS THAT THEY WILL STRADDLE THE GATE ON THIS ISSUE UNTIL SOMEONE MAKES THEM ACCOUNTABLE. AND WITHOUT VWOA ADDMITTING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, THE DEALERSHIPS WILL CONTINUE TO DENY THAT THERE IS A DEFECT AND MAKE THE OWNER LIABLE. PLEASE, CAN YOU INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND GIVE THE MAJORITY OF UUS VW OWNERS SOME RELIEF. THANK YOU

VEHICLE CONSUMING OIL SINCE CAR WAS BOUGHT. DEALER CHANGED PISTONS AT 15232 MILES BUT CAR IS STILL CONSUMING OIL AT 33853 MILES. HAVE RETURNED 13 TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH THIS PROBLEM SINCE JUNE 2000 BUT MANUFACTURER INSISTED CONSUMER KEEP COMING BACK FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS REGULARLY EVERY 1000 MILES. CONSUMER PERSUING COURT ACTION AT THIS TIME. NLM

WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING TRIED TO OPEN WINDOW BY PUSHING ELECTRONIC WINDOW LEVER; HOWEVER, WINDOW WAS NOT OPERABLE.*AK
ELECTRIC POWER WINDOW, WHEN LOWERED DOWN, FAILED DUE TO A WINDOW REGULATOR POPPING. THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER EVEN USED/AFTER MARKET PARTS. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER?S WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT AND THEY TOLD THEM THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. *YH

POWER DOOR LOCKS LOCK ON THEIR OWN AFTER CAR REACHES A CERTAIN SPEED. IT HAPPENS QUICKLY, AND IF ARMS OR FINGERS ARE NEARBY, THE SKIN GETS PULLED INTO LOCK HOLE. SEATBELT WOULD NOT RELEASE TENSION; 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND WAS TRAPPED IN THE SEATBELT. MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE SEATBELT TO GET RELEASE THE TENSION BUT IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THIS ACTION JUST MADE THE SEATBELT TIGHTER. THE SEATBELT HAD TO FINALLY BE CUT OFF OF MY DAUGHTER. MR

CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE ( EGR VALVE). VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH SHE WA S STEPPING ALL THE WAY ON THE GAS PEDAL. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES AND ROTORS AT 35000 MILES, WHICH SHE THOUGHT THAT IT WAS NOT USUALLY NORMAL ON ANY VEHICLE. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED BROKEN SPRINGS UNDER DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SEATS. AS A RESULT, WAS UNABLE TO RAISE PASSENGER'S SEAT.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON DUE TO EMISSION FAILURE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. CURRENTLY, AIR INJECTION PUMP WAS BEING REPLACED. *AK
