MY AUTOMOBILE WAS INVOLVED IN A DRIVER SIDE IMPACT FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, MY AUTO WAS THROWEN APROXIMATELY 50 FEET INTO A WALL HITTING THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER. MY FORWARD SPEED WAS APROXIMATELY 30 MPH AT TIME OF IMPACT. ZERO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. CAUSED INJURIES TO MYSELF FROM NON-DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS. *AK

DRIVER'S SEAT HAS DEFECTIVE ROLLERS, CAUSING SEAT TO MOVE BACK AND FORTH. CONSUMER HAS BEEN WAITING 3 MONTHS FOR NEW ROLLERS TO COME INTO DEALER. IN MEANTIME, CONSUMER IS DRIVING VEHICLE WITH AND UNSAFE SEAT. *AK *SLC
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT 15,500 MILES NINE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIRBAG CIRCUITRY UNDER WARRANTY, NINE MONTHS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. *JB
MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MADE A LOUD NOISE AND FELL INTO THE DOOR WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL UP THE WINDOW NOTHING HAPPENED. I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY FIXED IT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. 18 MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY TOLD ME SINCE MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. I REMINDED THEM THAT THIS HAPPENED BEFORE AND SHOUL NOT HAPPEN TO THE SAME WINDOW AGAIN IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD. THE DEARLERSHIP TOLD ME THEY ONLY WARRENTY THEIR WORK FOR ONE YEAR AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. SO I CALLED AROUND AND FOR QUOTES AND WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL COMPANIES THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JETTAS. I HAD TO PAY $300 TO GET IT FIXED. ONE MONTH LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME IT HAPPENS TO MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. I CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY BASICALLY TELL ME TOUGH LUCK. NOT ONLY HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ME BUT IT HAS HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE WHO ALSO OWNS A JETTA. LASTLY MY AC GOES OUT RIGHT AFTER ALL MY OTHER PROBLEMS.*AK
IN OCT 2000 MY CAR OVERHEATED, I REPORTED THIS TO VW AND THEY MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS, I ALSO REPORTED A NOISE FROM THE LEFT FRONT LIKE A WHINING NOISE, THIS WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION, VW DID REPAIRS TO RING AND PINION GEARS AND DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS, NOISE SUBSIDED FOR A FEW WEEKS. THE WARNING: CHECK COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, REPORTED PROBLEM TO VW AND I WAS INSTRUCTED TO ADD WATER TO RAISE COOLANT LEVEL. IN SEPT. 2001, I REPORTED AIR CONDITIONING FAILURE, VW DETERMINED COOLING SYSTEM HAD PROBLEM, REPLACED COOLANT FAN AND SECONDARY WATER PUMP, I ALSO REPORTED RETURN OF WHINING NOISE. CAR HAS NOW BEEN AT VW IN GLENDALE, CA SINCE 10/2/2001, DEALER HAS REPLACED LEFT FRONT AXEL AND DRIVE SHAFT, STILL WHINING, REPLACED TRANSMISSION. I PICKED UP CAR, DROVE 5 MILES AND CAR SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND NOW DOES NOT RUN. RETURNED VIA TOW TRUCK TO VW DEALER IN GLENDALE, CA. VW REPLACING VALUE BOX ON 10/9/2001 TECHNICIAN SAID "IN MY OPINION THIS WILL NOT ELEVATE PROBLEM" CAR NOW HAS INTERMITANT PROBLEM WITH STAYING IN GEAR. TECHNICIAN ALSO REPORTED THAT VW JETTAS GLX WITH VR6 ENGINE HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND DEALER HAS REPLACED UP TO 4 TRANSMISSIONS IN ONE CAR IN SEVERAL CASES. VW DEALER AND VW OF AMERICA CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST INTO 2ND GEAR, TRANSMISSION GRINDS, 1ST,2ND,& 3RD GEAR SINCRO'S HAVE BEEN REPLACED W/ ONLY 5000 MILES ON NEW CAR. STILL SHIFTS HARD INTO 2ND GEAR & SOMETIMES WILL NOT SHIFT AT ALL INTO 2ND GEAR. APPERANTLY VOLKSWAGEN IS NOW SAYING THAT SYNTHETIC TRANSMITION FLUID IS GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS WILL SOMETIMES GO BRIGHT AND THEN DIM, MAKES IT HARD TO SEE INSTURMENT PANEL AT NIGHT*AK
THE ENGINE COOLANT SYSTEM ON THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RIGHT. ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE WE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED POORLY WHEN THE CAR BECAME HOT. IT WOULD UP SHIFT AND DOWNSHIFT FOR NO REASON. THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THAT THIS IS HOW THEY SHIFT. THE TRANSMISSION STILL SHIFTS IN THIS MANNER. THEN IN OCTOBER OF 2000 THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE RESET. THEY RESET THE SENSOR AND ON 10/27/2000, JUST TWO WEEKS LATER, THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. THEN ON 7/16/2001 THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND WE NEEDED TO HAVE THE SECONDARY WATER PUMP REPLACED. NOW ON 8/9/01 THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER AGAIN BECAUSE THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I AM WRITING A LETTER TO THE MANUFACTURER. ANY FURTHER ADVICE OR ASSISTANCE YOU CAN GIVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.*AK
LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT POWER WINDOWS FAILED, POWERED DOWN THE FRONT WINDOWS AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE, WHEN CONSUMER TRIED TO ROLL THEM UP NOTING HAPPENED.*ET
ON 10/2000 D/S PWR WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE AND WINDOW FELL INTO DOOR FRAME, CAR UNDER WARRANTY AND PART REPLACED. WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH AT DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART FAILING. SIX MONTHS LATER ON 04/11/2001 THE PASSENGER SIDE PWR WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE AND THE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR FRAME. ON THIS OCCASION I CONTACED VW SINCE MY CAR HAD JUST PASSED OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD, VW TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO ME. I AM HOPING THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH THE REAR WINDOWS. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH VW AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, POSSIBLY SHOULD BE ADDRESSED SINCE WHEN THE REGULATOR BREAKS THE NOISE IS VERY FRIGHTENING (SOUNDS LIKE A GUNSHOT) AND POSSIBLY MIGHT CAUSE SOMEONE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT.*AK
VEHICLE WAS USING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. DEALER REPLACED ENGINE. CURRENTLY, SAME PROBLEM AGAIN OCCURRED. *AK
1) SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2000, THERE HAS BEEN A SOUND MADE AT THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. 2) LOUD SOUND WHEN DRIVING ON REGULAR ROADS. PERSISTENT LOUD THUMP SOUND. 3) I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR SOUNDS AND HAVE ASKED OTHER JETTA OWNERS AND THEY TOO AGREED THAT THEIR CAR HAD A LOUD NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. I WAS EVEN CHARGED SEVERAL TIMES BY THE DEALER WERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO RE-TORQUE AND TEST THE FRONT END. THEY AGREED THAT THEY COULD DEFINITELY HEAR THE SOUND BUT COULD NOT TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM. ALL ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR OR FIND PROBLEM ARE DOCUMENTED IN MY SERVICE THROUGH VOLKSWAGEN. I ALSO HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO APPROXIMATELY 8 ADDITIONAL SHOPS TO TROUBLE SHOOT NOISE. ALL AGREED THAT THE NOISE WAS UNBEARABLE BUT NO SOLUTION WAS FOUND. NOW I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 4.5 YEARS AND IT SOUNDS LIKE MY FRONT END IS GOING TO FALL APART. *JB
1) THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IN THIS CAR HAS COMPLETELY FAILED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN VERY LIGHTLY. THE DEALER INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS JUST A LOOSE WIRE ON THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHTS AND THAT IT WAS ALL OK. AFTER I INSISTED THAT THEY CHECK IT FURTHER IT TURNED OUT THAT THE SYSTEM HAD INDEED FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WHAT IS SCARY IS THAT THEY WERE GOING TO SEND ME BACK OUT ON THE ROAD WITH A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE TECHNICIAN (NOT THE SERVICE MANAGER) TOLD ME THAT AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILURE IS VERY COMMON IN THE 2000 JETTA. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY REPORT, I HAVE HAD MANY SERIOUS DEFECTS IN THIS CAR AND IT IS BARELY 8 MONTHS OLD WITH LESS THAN 5000 MILES. I JUST WANTED TO LET THE NHTSA KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEMS SO THAT THEY COULD LOOK INTO THEM.
CAR WAS BEING TOWED ON A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS SECURED BY 2 FRONT HOOKS/STRAP WHICH WERE ATTACHED TO A WINCH. THE REAR WAS SECURED BY A STRAP ATTACHED TO THE REAR TOW LOOP ON MY VEHICLE. AS THE TOW TRUCK WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 10 MPH, THE TOW LOOP BROKE (IN ABOUT 3 SPOTS)( THE LOOP IS ROLLED STEEL, NOT THE SOLID FORGED PEICE UTILIZED ON OTHER VEHICLES). THE RESULTING CRACK/BREAKAGE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING FORWARD, DROPPING THE 2 OTHER HOOKS AND NEARLY ROLLING BACK OFF OF THE TOW TRUCK. THIS ALL HAPPENED AT LESS THAN 15 MPH. IMAGINE IF IT HAD BEEN AT 60 MPH!!!!!. IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY CAR, IT WILL HAPPEN TO OTHERS. THE LOOP IS TOO WEAK TO SERVE ITS FUNCTION OF BEING ABLE TO SECURE THE VEHICLE.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 30-35MPH A SECOND PARTY RAN THE LIGHT & DAMAGED DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, 4 PEOPLE INJURED IN ACCIDENT, VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. *AK *SLC
VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON. DEALER FOUND NOTHING. CONSUMER THEN WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHO DID OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, AND AFTER 6 VISITS FOUND BRAKE IN SEALING RING IN ENGINE. *AK
WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW IN MY BRAND NEW VW JETTA COLLAPSED INSIDE THE DOOR AND BROKE. I COULD NOT ROLL UP MY WINDOW. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN, THEY SAID THIS IS VERY COMMON, DUE TO HOT WEATHER. I THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER, TO REPLACE THE PART THAT CANNOT HANDLE HOT WEATHER, AND ALERT THE PUBLIC. THANK YOU.
WHENEVER DRIVING ENGINE WOULD BURN AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE AT LEAST 2 TIMES TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INDICATED THAT OIL BURNING WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR JETTA. NO REPAIRS WERE DONE TO CORRECT PROBLEM.*AK THERE WAS GEL-LIKE BUILDUP ON THE OIL CAP AND DIPSTICK DUE TO ANTIFREEZE OR MOISTURE MOUNTING WITHIN THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER INTENDS TO PURSUE LEMON LAW IF DEFECTS WERE NOT CORRECTED. *YH
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A T-BONE FRONTAL COLLISION WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO SPIN SEVERAL TIMES AND HIT THE MEDIUM STRIP AND A POLE AT A IMPACT OF 60-65 MPH. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AND SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
THE RED LIGHTING FOR THE CLIMATE CONTROL KNOBS INTERMITTENTLY FAIL
WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE COMMENCED TO ACCELERATE AND REAR ENDED VEHICLE IN FRONT DEALER/ MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED AND RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHEN OPERATING DRIVER POWER WINDOW IT WENT DOWN 2 INCHES THEN FELL IN THE DOOR. THE SAME HAPPENED TO THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW ON 16 APRIL 2002. DEALER REPLACED THE REGULATOR IN BOTH WINDOWS. NLM
JETTA RAN OUT OF OIL. CONTINUOUSLY BURNS OIL AT A RATE AT OR ABOUT 1 TO 1 AND 1/2 QUARTS PER 1000 MILES. DEALER SAYS PROBLEM IS WITHIN THE ENGINE SPECS. FROM VOLKSWAGEN. NO SUCH SPECS. CAN SEEM TO BE PRODUCED BY EITHER THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER INSISTS THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD EXPECT TO BURN AND REPLACE 10 QUARTS OF OIL IN BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES. CAR PRODUCES BLACK SMOKE AND NOW HAS 13,500 MILES ON IT. *AK
RIGHT FRONT WINDOW FAILED TO GO UP OR DOWN AND THE LEFT REAR WINDOW POPPED WHILE CLOSING DUE TO BROKEN LIFTERS. THE LEFT FRONT WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED TWICE. *YH *CB
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS THE STEERING DOESN'T LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE DIES. THE VEHICLE OPERATES AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED. *JG
A BRAND NEW CAR - SPINDLE FAILED- NOT GOING VERY FAST10 MILES PER HOUR-NOR HIT ANY POTHOLE OR ANYTHING -PART FAILED ON ITS OWNSHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT VW NOT REPLACING.WOULD LIKE TO REPORT VWCOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED.
THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR. A PERSON SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED TO ACCEPT WHATEVER PROBLEMS. DEALER WISHES TO DELIVER. A PERSON PURCHASES A NEW CAR SO THAT THEY WON'T HAVE THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS. I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT MY NEW CAR HAS ALREADY NEEDED A NEW REAR WINDOW AND NOW A NEW TRANSMISSION. MY FAMILY ARE PAST VOLKSWAGON OWNERS AND I HAD CONVINCED TWO OF MY FRIENDS TO BY NEW JETTAS. JACK FAILED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO DRIVERS SIDE SKIRT. THE JACK PUNCHED THROUGH THE METAL. *AK
FROM STOP DEPRESSING ACCELERATOR, ENGINE RPM RUNS TO 3,000 TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE THEN JUMPS INTO GEAR CAUSING UNCONTROLLED JACK-RABBIT START. *AK
SECOND TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR THIS CAR, UNSURE IF THE DEALER IN FACT REPLACED ORIGIONAL. ALSO HAVE NOTICED SPEEDOMETER MAKING A CLICKING SOUND AT ALL SPEEDS
VEHICLE WAS LEAKING WATER COOLANT AND VEHICLE WAS AT DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TWICE.*AK
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH OIL CONSUMPTION WITH MY VOLKSWAGEN, JETTA 2000. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL WARRANTY SCHEDULED CHECKUPS, AND HAVE TAKEN CARE OF TEH CAR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS. SPECIFICALLY, AT ONE POINT, I DISCOVERED, BETWEEN THE WARRRANTY CHECKUPS, THAT MY CAR'S, OIL DIP STICK WAS ABSOLUTELY DRY. I REPORTED THIS EVENT TO ATAMIAN VOLKSWAGEN WHO TOLD ME THAT "2000 VOLKSWAGEN ARE WELL KNOWN TO CONSUME OIL". SINCE THEN I HAVE UNDERGONE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT MY CAR CONSUMES OIL AT A RATE OF 1 QUART EVERY 1500 MILES. WV SAYS THAT THIS COMPLIES WITH THEIR SPECIFICATIONS (THE OIL CONSUMPTION RATE IS NOT STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL).*AK
REVERSE LIGHTS STAY ON AND CANNOT BE FIXED BETW. 2 DEALERS WHO IN TOTAL HAVE WORKED OVER 32 HOURS OF LABOR WITH OUT RESOLUTION. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2000. VEHICLE RAN LOW ON OIL AT 1500 MILES. FILED COMPLAINT ABOUT EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR A NEW VEHICLE. VEHICLE NOW HAS 66,000 MILES AND BURNS ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. THIS HAS HAPPENED FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE. MECHANIC HAS STATED THAT THIS IS WITHIN SPECS, BUT MAY DAMAGE POLLUTION CONTROL SYSTEMS. I FIND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON-LINE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. *JB
AIRBAG SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON WHICH ACCORDING TO THE VW OWNERS MANUAL, INDICATES A MALFUNCTION IN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. I TOOK MY JETTA TO A VW SERVICE CENTER ON 5/23/2000. SERVICE CENTER IS TO DATE WAITING FOR VW ENGINEERING IN CHICAGO IL TO PROVIDE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO REPAIR VEHICLE. DUE TO AIRBAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION INDICATOR BEING LIT, INDICATING A SAFETY ISSUE, VW ENGINEERING HAS NOT PROVIDED A DIAGNOSES/SOLUTION TO PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS NOT IN MY POSESSION BUT AT MCNEVIN VW IN BERKELEY CA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *AK
DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX CREAKING SUSPENSION NOISE 3 TIMES. UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM, OR FIX IT. PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. EXTERIOR NOISE WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS, HOLES IN ROAD, AND WHEN TURNING RIGHT, OR WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TURNING RIGHT. DEFINITELY NOT AN INTERIOR CREAKING NOISE. WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY B/C DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM IS A SUSPENSION ISSUE. PLEASE HELP GET THIS FIXED?

BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER IN DECEMBER 2000. AT 5,390 MILES W/WARRANTY TOOK MY CAR IN B/C THE A/C WAS HAVING PROBLEMS. 7,255 MILES-A/C IS NOT COLD- FOUND SYSTEM LEAK-EXPANSION VALVE LEAK. 13,247 MILES-AC NOT COLD AGAIN. FOUND EXPANSION VALVE LEAKING- FREON-REPLACED O RING RECEIVER AND DRIER AND EXPANSION VALVE. 34,684- A/C LOUD AGAIN. 60,760 MILES- FAULTY AIR FLOW VALVE-REMOVED AND INSTALLED AIR FLOW SENSOR- WARRANTY. 88,850 MILES-A/C PROBLEMS AGAIN! 88,850MILES- A/C NOT COLD BLOWING WARM AIR, CUSTOMER TURNED A/C ON AND SQEAKING NOISE HEARD, TURNED BACK OFF, STOPPED NOISE, TURNED BACK ON BLOWING WARM AIR AND SQEAKING NOISE HEARD AGAIN. TOOK CAR IN FOR THE A/C PROBLEM A TOTAL OF 8 TIMES! WROTE OFFICIAL COMPLAINT LETTER TO VW DEALERSHIP. MANAGER FOUND THE WHOLE A/C SYSTEM WAS LEAKING! MANAGER SAID IT WOULD COST $3,725 DOLLARS! ( B/C WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXPIRED) TO FIX THE A/C UNIT. THEY OFFERED TO PAY FOR 50% OF THE PRICE. WE ARE NOT SATISFIED. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING B/C THE VW "QUALIFIED" TECHNICIANS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE CAR, ENTRUSTED THE CAR INTO THEIR CARE, BUT EVENTUALLY LED THE CUSTOMER TO BIGGER PROBLEMS! THE CAR HAD ALL THE MAINTENANCE SERVICES DONE ON TIME! FAILURE OF THE TECHNICIANS BEING ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW THAT THEY ARE QUALIFIED..WHAT DID THEY CHECK??? WHY TELL THE CUSTOMER THAT JUST BECAUSE WARRANTY EXPIRED THAT THERE IS NO OLBIGATION BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY ANYMORE WHEN THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE TOUCHED THE SYSTEM AND ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT?? BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! UNACCEPTABLE! ALREADY NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THE PRESIDENT OF TAKING LEGAL ACTION. NO CAR BUYER SHOULD HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS KIND OF HORRIBLE TIME CONSUMING PROBLEM. AFTER PAYING THE FULL VALUE OF THE CAR. INVESTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A NEW VW CAR THIS RESULT IS NOT GETTING WHAT WE PAYED FOR. THE CAR DOES NOT MEET UP TO THE STANDARD OF THEIR MOTTO "VW DESIGN AND INTENT".
EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. HE CAR CONSUMED APPROXIMATELY 1 QT OF OIL PER 1500 MI. TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THIS CAR HAD 8 MILES WHEN I LEASE IT, AND I DRIVE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THIS ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, FOR ME, IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE. IF I WOULD NOT REFILL THE ENGINE OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE INTERVALS (5000 MI), THE CAR WOULD CONSUME 74% OF ITS TOTAL ENGINE OIL, EASILY BURNING ITS ENGINE. AT THE DEALER SUGGESTION I ENDED UP TRADING THIS CAR YET FOR ANOTHER JETTA, ALSO CONSUMING OIL. *AK
REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED 5 TIMES, REAR ROTORS REPLACED 3 TIMES, NEW COMPOUND PADS REPLACED 2 TIMES- CAR IS HAVING ADDITIONAL CHANGES PERFORMED JULY 30,2000 . MANUFACTURER CALLED 12/5/2000, LETTERS(CERTIFIED MAIL) ON MARCH 23 2002 AND JUNE 9,2001- JULY 25 2001, MANUFACTURER RECOGNIZES THAT 'THE PARTICULAR NON-CONFORMITY THAT WXISTS IN YOUR VEHICLE PRESENTS A POTENIAL SAFETY CONCERN'.*AK
FIRST FAILURE WHILE GETTING ON FREEWAY. DEALER SERVICE HAD CAR FOR 38 DAYS, 2 OR 3 REBUILD ATTEMPTS BEFORE TELLING ME A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. PROBLEM WAS IN REVERSE GEAR, SAID OUTPUT SHAFT WAS BENT. TWO MONTHS LATER THE TRANSMISSION SUFFERED ANOTHER FAILURE OF THE SAME TYPE WHILE ON VACATION IN SAN FRANSISCO. DEALER IS TELLING ME USER ABUSE, I KNOW OF 6 OTHER 1999 AND 2000 JETTA'S THAT HAVE HAD MANULE TRANSMISSION FAILURES
DEALERS OPENLY ACKNOWLEGE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR MAP SENSORS ON GAS AND DIESEL ENGINES, BUT VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA INTERNALLY REFUSES TO RECALL THIS ITEM. THE SAME COMPLAINTS ARE MADE ABOUT THE VERY COMMON RELAY 109 FUSE FAILURES, WHICH VOLKSWAGENW IS LIKEWISE PUTTING OFF. PLEASE FORCE THEM TO RECALL THESE TWO ITEMS THAT HAVE COST ME PLENTY OF OUT OF POCKET MONEY, EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A RIP-OFF OF ALL CONSUMERS BY VW OF AMERICA AND THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR IGNORANCE OF THESE OBVIOUS PROBLEMS! *AK
EACH ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WAS ANNOYING FOR A BRAND NEW CAR BUT THEY WERE FIXED. MY CONCERN IS THE OIL BURNING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP TOOK ME SERIOUSLY UNTIL I THREATENED THEM WITH LEGAL ACTION BUT MY CAR IS STILL BURNING OIL. I CAN'T SEEM TO MAKE ANYONE UNDERSTAND THAT A CAR ONLY ONE YEAR OLD SHOULD NOT CONSUME OIL LIKE THIS CAR IS DOING NOW. TWICE I HAVE BEEN STRANDED WITH MY 9 MONTH OLD SON IN THE COLD WEATHER BECAUSE THE RED WARNING LIGHT FOR LOW OIL HAS COME ON AND BOTH TIMES I HAD NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THERE IS OBVIUOSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR BUT THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME THAT THEIR MECHANICS SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG.
OIL LIGHT WILL COME ON WHETHER VEHICLE HAS OIL IN IT OR NOT. CONSUMER CHANGES OIL EVERY 2500 MILES. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH VEHICLE. *AK
TWO TRANSMISSION MOUNT BOLTS HAVE SNAPPED OFF & BEEN REPLACED TO DATE, REASON UNKNOWN? *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD,THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER HAD INFORMED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
HIT ROCK ON HIGHWAY PUNCTURING OIL PAN. ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AND ENGINE SEIZED. *AK
1. THE REAR BRAKE LINE SNAPPED OFF WHILE INSTALLING NEW PADS. THE BRAKE LINE SNAPPED A CLEAN CUT, NO BENDS ETC. THE BRAKE LINE APPEARED TO BE VERY BRITTLE AND WAS PROBABLY A RESULT OF METAL FATIGUE OR FAULTY ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AT JUST 33964 MILES WHILE THE FRONT PADS APPEARED TO BE NEARLY NEW. THIS IS A REVERSE IN NORMAL WEAR OUT PATTERNS AND WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE CALIPERS OVERHEATING/LOCKED UP ETC. 2. THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AFTER ONLY 33964 MILES OF WHICH MOST OF THE TRAVEL WAS ON NON-STOP ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. EITHER THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE DEFECTIVE OR THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE VW JETTA, WHICH CAUSED THE REAR PADS TO WEAR OUT LONG BEFORE THE FRONT.*AK
AUTOMATIC LOCKS KICK IN AFTER A MINUTE OR SO. THE BUTTONS THAT GO DOWN HAVE RIDGES ON THEM THAT ARE VERY DANGEROUS. CONSUMER HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY CUT WHEN ARM WAS CAUGHT ON THE LATCH TO THE POINT WHERE THERES WAS LITTLE BLOOD SHED. CONSUMER FEELS THE LOCKS ARE DANGEROUS. *AK *ML
VW JETTA GLS. BOTTOM IS FIRST DATE OF PROBLEM. EXCESSIVE FUEL BURNING AND ALARM/LIGHT WENT ON AT 8,000 MILES - RESULTED IN BLOWN HEAD GASKET @37,000 AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ON. VW DENIES THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SERVICED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM SO MANY TIMES, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IMPAIRED. *JB
