2002 JETTA 1.8 T, START SHAKING AFTER DRIVING FOR 5 MINUTES. DEALER DETECTED AS A FAILED IGNITION COIL PROBLEM.
VW JETTA 2002. CAR IS 21/2 YRS OLD AND HAS BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES. THE IGNITION COIL HAS FAILED 2 TIMES. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE SELONIOD ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALL WERE UNDER WARRANTY. VW NEEDS TO GET THE QUALITY OF THEIR CARS UP TO PAR. ONCE MY LEASE IS DONE I AM TURNING THE CAR IN AND WILL NOT GET ANOTHER VW. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN UPSHIFTING AND DOWNSHIFTING BY ITSELF, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REDLINE AND NEARLY STRANDING OUR VEHICLE IN THE LANE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TRANSMISSION THEN LOCKED THE WHEELS, RENDERING THE CAR IMMOBILE. THIS OCCURRED ON 01/20/03. ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I REPORTED TO VW THAT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING INTO REVERSE FROM PARK-THIS OCCURRED TWICE ON THE SAME DAY. ON 12/19/03 VW INSPECTED MY TRANSMISSION. A WRITTEN REPORT FROM VW SERVICE WAS GIVEN TO ME THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS. CURRENTLY VW IS REPLACING MY TRANSMISSION, THEYRE NOT ADMITTING THE POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE DAMAGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER CAREL TOLD ME,1/21/03,THAT THEY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THE NEW REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION MIGHT FAIL LIKE THE FIRST. MY CONCERN IS THAT I MIGHT NOT BE AS LUCKY NEXT TIME. I COULD BE REAR ENDED OR HIT HEAD-ON IF MY WHEELS LOCK UP AGAIN SPONTANEOUSLY.
1 IGNITION COIL ON MY 2002 1.8T VW JETTA WAGON FAILED ON SATURDAY 12-19. CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, STILL AWAITING PART TO ARRIVE!!
WHILE DRIVING WITHIN THE CITY, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP WHICH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. DEALER STATED THE COMPUTER HAD INDICATED AND ACCIDENT HAD OCCURRED. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS.*JB
THIS WAS THE 2ND FAILURE OF ONE OR MORE IGNITION COILS ON MY 2002 JETTA 1.8T CAUSING A DRAMATIC LOSS OF POWER. THE FIRST TIME WAS NOVEMBER WHEN 2 COILS FAILED CAUSING CAR TO BE ALMOST UNDRIVABLE, NO ACCELARATION AND VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN SPEED. SECOND FAILURE, LUCKILY, ONLY HAPPENED A COUPLE OF BLOCKS FROM THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. SAME PROBLEM WITH NO POWER, ETC. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IT COULD LEAD TO A RATHER BAD ACCIDENT. THIS PROBEM SEEMS VERY PREVELANT ON THE 2001 AND 2002 VW AND AUDI MODELS WITH THE 1.8 TURBO ENGINE.
FAILURE OF IGNITION COIL. TS
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK BACK IN FORTH. TS
VEHICLE STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES AT ANY SPEED DUE TO A FAULTY IGNITION COIL. DEALER INSPECTED AND REPLACED JUST ONE OUT THE FIVE COIL. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 VW JETTA (1.8T) INTO TRAFFIC A COIL PACK FAILED AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. IT WAS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY TRAFFIC TURNING INTO MY LANE BECAUSE THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS IS THE 3RD COIL PACK TO HAVE FAILED ON ME IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS, AND I AM A BIT AFRAID TO TAKE THE CAR ON LONG TRIPS DUE TO THE VEHICLE UNDRIVABLE CONDITIONS. I AM EVEN SOMEWHAT AFRAID TO PROCEED INTO TRAFFIC IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS BECAUSE IF A COIL PACK FAILS I WILL BE PUT AT THE MERCY OF OTHER DRIVERS REACTIONS AND ABILITY TO STOP. TS
COIL PACK FAILED ON VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2002, LUCKILY IT DIED ON START UP AND NOT WHILE TRAVELING. CAR HAS 4 COIL PACKS, DEALER ONLY REPACED ONE. VW HAS NUMEROUS CARS WITH SAME FAILURE, NUMEROUS TIMES. REQUESTED THEY REPLACE ALL COIL PACKS, THEY SAID NO. THEY AGREED WITH ME THAT THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE CAR WILL FAIL AGAIN. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT FAILS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ? !

CLUTCH. IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFICULT TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AND REVERSE SO I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS LATER IT WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY THEN TOLD ME THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH 1ST GEAR. AFTER TAKING THE TRANMISSION APART AND FIXING 1ST GEAR THEY TEST DROVE IT THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS AGAIN NOT FIXED AND THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS NOW IN ESSENCE EATING ITSELF UP. I THEN HAD MY ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REPLACED BECAUSE EACH TOOTH IN THE GEARS AND RODS WERE BENT OR DAMAGED IN SOME WAY. IN THE END, THEY SAID MY TRANSMISSION MUST HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE HAVE BEEN NO CHANGES IN THE TRANSMISSIONS AND MY REPLACMENT IS THE SAME AS ALL THE OTHER JETTAS.
2002 JETTA GLX (V6). CAR HAS 10,000 MILES ON IT AND THE SECOND IGNITION COIL PACK JUST FAILED. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS WAITING FOR PARTS THIS TIME AROUND. DEALER INDICATED THAT SEVERAL OTHER JETTAS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. OTHER VW OWNERS (PASSAT) INDICATED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. OTHER DEALERS INDICATE SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND LONG WAIT TIMES. I SEE FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS EPIDEMIC IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY AS WELL. THE REPEATED AND UNEXPECTED FAILURE OF THE IGNITION COILS IS AN INCREDIBLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE DRIVERS OF THESE VEHICLES AS WELL AS ANYONE ELSE ON THE HIGHWAY. THESE COILS FAIL WITHOUT WARNING - THE SECOND ONE FAILED WHILE I WAS HUNDREDS OF MILES FROM HOME ON A VERY LONELY STRETCH OF THE WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE (NO CELL PHONE SERVICE OF COURSE) EARLY IN THE MORNING IN A SNOWSTORM!
COIL PACKS WHICH CONTROL SPARK TO THE ENGINE FAILED ON CYLINDERS #2 AND #4. REPLACED BY DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. FIVE DAYS LATER COIL PACK ON CYLINDER #3 FAILED. ALSO REPLACED BY DEALER. THE COIL PACK FAILURES RESULTED IN A CONSIDERABLE LOSS OF POWER AND A FOUL ODOR FROM THE EXHAUST. IN ADDITION, THE COIL PACK BROKE APART ALLOWING THE ELECTRICAL PARTS TO BE EXPOSED.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WOULDN'T RESTART. PLEASE FURNISH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*JB
COILPACK FAILURE ON THE ENGINE. THE PARTIAL ENGINE FAILURE CAUSED THE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO BRING THE CAR OVER 25 MILES PER HOUR, EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE CAR WAS SMOKING AND SMELLED BAD. THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER TOLD US THAT LOTS OF CARS, PARTICULARLY THE ONES WITH 1.8T ENGINES, ARE HAVING THIS FAILURE. HE SAID THAT VOLKSWAGEN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THAT THE PART IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. OUR CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR ALMOST THREE WEEKS.
IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS MY 2002 JETTA 1.8T HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR FAULTY COIL PACKS AND NOW I NEED ALL NEW FUEL INJECTORS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. I HAVE HAD 2 NEW SETS OF REDESIGNED COIL PACKS AND I STILL GET AN ENGINE LIGHT CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE POWER AND RUN ROUGH, NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT HAPPENING TO YOU WHILE DRIVING 65 MILES A HOUR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I WISH VOLKSWAGEN WOULD ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE REALLY GETS HURT. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING "CHECK ENGINE" STARTED FLASHING, AND THERE WAS A ODOR COMING FROM THE AIR VENTS. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED AFTER THAT THE NUMBER 2 IGNITION COIL HAD BURNT OUT. A MONTH LATER THE NUMBER 1 IGNITION COIL HAD BURNT OUT. REPLACED PART ON BOTH OCCASIONS. PH
FAILURE RESULTS IN DISABLING OF VEHICLE. VW IS ONLY REPLACING FAILED COILS EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT THAT THE OTHERS WILL PROBABLY FAIL EVENTUALLY. DT
WHILE DRIVING 2 IGNITION COILS FAILED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE FIRST FAILURE WAS ON 11/30/02 AT 9500 MILES AND THE SECOND FAILURE WAS ON 01/18/03 AT 11000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE DEFECTIVE COILS WHEN THEY FAIL. *NLM
COIL HAS BROKEN TWICE IN TWO WEEKS. KNOWN ISSUE WITH VW AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE ALL POTENTIALY DEFECTIVE PARTS, ONLY WILL REPLACE CURRENTLY BROKEN PARTS. DT
IGNITION COIL PACKS ARE FAULTY ON 2002 VOLKSWAGENS WITH 1.8T ENGINES. THERE ARE FOUR OF THESE PARTS ON EACH 1.8T ENGINE. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE TO THE POINT OF THE CAR WILL STALL AND CAN NOT BE DRIVEN. MY 2002 JETTA 1.8T WAGON HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE SHOP TWICE IN THE PAST MONTH FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME ONLY ONE COIL PACK WAS REPLACED, LEAVING THREE FAULTY ONES STILL INSTALLED. A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST COIL PACK WAS REPLACED ANOTHER ONE FAILED. CURRENTLY MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 15 DAYS WAITING ON THE PART TO ARRIVE FROM EUROPE. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 19 DAYS TOTAL IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. WHEN THE PART ARRIVES, VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS THEY CAN ONLY REPLACE ONE DAMAGED COIL PACK (NOT ALL FOUR FAULTY ONES) BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE IN SUCH HIGH DEMAND. THE VW SERVICE GARAGE IN DURHAM, NC (SOUTHERN STATES VW) TOLD ME THEY HAVE 8 CARS WAITING ON THESE PARTS TO ARRIVE. THE NATIONAL VW CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME VW IS REPLACING ONLY ONE COIL PACK PER CAR, TRYING TO GET AS MANY CARS BACK ON THE ROAD AS POSSIBLE, ADMITTING THAT ANY OF THE OTHER ORIGINAL COIL PACKS MAY FAIL AGAIN AT ANY TIME. IF THERE ARE EIGHT CARS ON THE LOT IN DURHAM, NC THERE MUST BE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF VWS ACROSS THE US IN GARAGES ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM! VW OF AMERICA REALIZES THIS PROBLEM, YET THEY REFUSE TO DO A RECALL DUE TO LIMITED SUPPLY OF PARTS. MEANWHILE EVERYONE WILL BE STILL STUCK WITH A CAR WHO'S ENGINE MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME DUE TO THIS FAULTY ENGINE PART! THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR TO OWN! SOMEONE NEEDS TO PUT PRESSURE ON VW OF AMERICA TO RECALL ALL 2002'S JETTA AND BEETLES WITH 1.8T ENGINES. DT
THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH VW/AUDI 1.8T ENGINES. AFFECTS AUDI A4, VW PASSAT/BEETLE/JETTA. PARTS BACK ORDERED THROUGH DEALER, THEY SAID. NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. CAR LOSES POWER WHEN MOVING, WILL NOT GO FASTER THAN 20MPH. POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS, COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENT HAPPEND MANY, MANY TIMES. ALSO, MORE THAN ONE FAILIURE HAS HAPPEND TO A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT I KNOW. DT
EPC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, TAIL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION I PARKED MY CAR AS USUAL. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR, IT STARTED, BUT I COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I CALLED THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE NUMBER. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO HIT THE BRAKE WITH MY FOOT AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. THIS ALLOWED ME TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THEY ALSO SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR SERVICE. *LA
I FEEL THAT THE HIGH FAILURE RATE OF VW IGNITION COIL PACKS IS A DANGER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC SAFETY. IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO HAVE MULTIPLE COIL PACKS FAIL. I HAVE TO CROSS A BUSY HIGHWAY TO GO TO WORK AND FEAR BEING KILLED SHOULD I ACCIDENTALLY PULL OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. THE CAR HAS VIRTUALLY NO POWER TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. DT

IGNITION COIL FAILURE ON 2002 VW JETTA. CAR MUST BE TOWED IF IT IS ANY DISTANCE FROM DEALERSHIP. HAS NO POWER WHEN FAILURE OCCURS...SAFETY ISSUE ON A HIGHWAY, WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. SAFETY ISSUE FOR A WOMAN WAITING ALONE ON THE ROAD SIDE FOR A TOW. CAN NOT DRIVE A CAR WITH 9000 MILES WITH ANY CONFIDENCE THAT IT WILL NOT PUT ME IN DANGER THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL. TS
THERE WAS NO TREAD LEFT ON ALL 4 TIRES. *JB
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING UNDER 55 MPH CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS BECOMING TOO HOT. CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HEATING UNIT BURNED A HOLE IN THE LEATHER SEAT AND IN CONSUMER'S PANTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT A NEW SEAT HEATER WAS NEEDED.*AK WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS BECOMING TOO HOT. CONSUMER PARKED VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HEATING UNIT HAD BURNED A HOLE IN THE LEATHER SEAT AND IN THE CONSUMER'S PANTS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT HEATER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*MR
POWERED DOWN WINDOW AND IT MADE A LOUD NOISE AND FAILED TO RETURN TO THE UP POSITION. DT
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 30MPH THE PEDAL WILL GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. TS
I HAVE A 2002 JETTA 1.8T AND HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES NOW IN THE PAST MONTH AND 1/2 FOR COIL PACK FAILURE. HAD CAR IN SHOP 1 DAY FOR FIRST COIL, ONE WEEK FOR 2ND COIL, AND 1 1/2 WEEK FOR THIRD COIL. JUST HAVE 10,000 MILES ON CAR.
I STARTED VEHICLE, PROCEEDED TO DRIVE, BUT VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND LOST POWER. ALSO THERE WAS A SLIGHT FOUL SMELL. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. WAS TOLD CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE BY DEALERSHIP, AS IGNITION COILS FAILED. THEY SAID ONLY TWO DAMAGED AT THIS TIME AND WILL NOT REPLACE OTHER TWO UNLESS PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN. THERE ARE OTHER REPORTED INCIDENTS ON SIMILAR VEHICLES. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE IF THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE WHY ARE THEY NOT REPLACING ALL 4. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE ME TO BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE AS I DRIVE LONG DISTANCES ON OCCASION. DT
WHILE DRIVING OUR TWO MONTH OLD JETTA ON ROUTE 80 OUR DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAGS WENT OFF WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF IMPACT. THERE IS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE CAR WHICH WAS CONFIRMED BY THE CLOSEST VOLKWAGEN DEALER WE DROVE IT TO. VOLKSWAGEN SAYS THE COMPUTER SAYS THERE WAS AN IMPACT THOUGH NO DAMAGE WHAT SO EVER IS VISIBLE. THEY SAID WE MUST REPORT THE CLAIM TO OUR INSURANCE COMPANY. THEY WILL ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY. WE ARE AFRAID THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING UNTIL VOLKSWAGEN DECIDES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE OUR NEW CAR. DT
IGNITION COILS FAILED 3 TIMES. CAR HAS BEEN IN REPAIR SHOP FOR A MONTH, NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE BEING DELIVERED. DT
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO BOARD WALK VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN RICHARDSON AND RUSTY WALLACE VOLKSWAGEN IN GARLAND, TEXAS FOR MY REPAIR FOR MY CAR FOR MORE THAN 8 TIMES. THE CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED AND I AM VERY FRUSTRATED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I START MY CAR, IT SHAKES REALLY BAD I WOULD HAVE TO WARM IT UP FOR 5 MINUTES. SOMETIMES THE CAR DIES WHILE I AM DRIVING. I WROTE A COMPLAINT LETTER TO THE RUSTY WALLACE BECAUSE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE THERE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER (DAN TURK) SEEMS TO BE AVOIDING MY PHONE CALLS. THE TUBO POWER IN MY VW JETTA 2002 TDI MODEL FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER A TWO YEAR PERIOD. VW DEALER IN MANCHESTER, NH WAS NOT COMPIDENT ENOUGH TO GO BEYOND WHAT THE DIAGNOSIS MACHINE WAS TELLING THEM TO FIX. VW MANUFACTURING WAS MORE THAN RELUCTANT TO COVER COSTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEMS STARTED BEFORE THE WARRANTY WAS UP
BAD COILS! IN OCTOBER OF 2002, MY 2002 JETTA 1.8T BROKE DOWN. I WAS TOLD THAT COIL #3 HAD BURNT OUT. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER WHY THIS OCCURRED, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A FLUKE. I HAD NOT REALIZED THAT I HAD BEEN LIED TO. ON DECEMBER 24, 2002 MY CAR BROKE DOWN AGAIN. NOW COIL #4 HAD BURNT OUT. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM IN 2002 JETTAS WITH 1.8T ENGINES. I ASKED IF ALL COILS COULD BE REPLACED BUT WAS TOLD NO. I WAS TOLD THAT I JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY CAR TO BREAK DOWN AGAIN AND IT PROBABLY WOULD. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? ACCORDING O VW, THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PARTS TO HAVE A RECALL. THIS IS ABSURD!
DT: BEGINNING THREE YEARS AGO THE OWNER NOTICED THAT WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE CAR WOULD JERK AND JOLT. AFTER 2ND GEAR THE SHIFTING WAS FINE. WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE THERE WAS ALSO A JERK AND JOLT. THE FIRST TIME THE OWNER NOTICED IT WAS IN TOWN ON A MAIN ROAD. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT FREQUENT. DEALER EVALUATED THE VEHICLE AND THEY TEST DROVE IT AND FOUND THE CONDITION NORMAL. THEN LAST THURSDAY JULY 7 2005 THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD MECHANICAL NOISE LIKE A GRINDING SOUND WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND, ALSO WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THEN THE OWNER CONTACTED A MECHANIC AND THEY TEST DROVE IT, AND THEN THEY REPORTED IT IS A SERIUOS PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. THEN THE DEALER INSTRUCTED OWNER TO BRING IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP. IT IS NOW 2000 MILES PAST WARRANTY. DEALER ADVISES THAT THERE IS A BROKEN PART IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT HAS BECOME LODGED. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO DEALER AT A COST OF $4,500. ONWER CONTACTED VW OF AMERICA AND THEY REPORTED SINCE IT IS PAST WARRANTY, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR COST. OWNER SENT A FAX TO DEALER STATING THAT HE NEEDS DOCUMENTATION OF WHAT IS EXACTLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE RETURN FAX STATED THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHAT THE EXACT PROBLEM UNLESS THE TRANSMISSION IS TAKEN APART. SO OWNER WONDERS WHAT DID DEALERSHIP TELL THE VOLKSWAGEN COMPANY . THE VEHICLE IS BEING TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. THE DEALER LEFT A MESSAGE THAT THERE IS A TOW TRUCK THERE TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS DENTED THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT NEEDS TO BE RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE TRANSMISSION SHOP.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE SIDE AIRBAGS WENT INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *MR
ON SEPTEMBER 30TH, I TOOK MY JETTA IN TO VALENTI VOLKSWAGEN TO HAVE A NEW AND UPDATED ECU INSTALLED. THE UNIT WAS IN STOCK, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM RICK IN PARTS AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME IN THAT DAY TO HAVE IT PUT IT. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THE ECU IN MY CAR HAD TO BE SENT TO VOLKSWAGEN TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND THAT I HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR WHILE THE ECU WAS OUT. I GOT A CALL FROM SERVICE ON OCTOBER 12TH LETTING ME KNOW MY CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS TOLD MY ECU WAS STILL AT VOLKSWAGEN BEING REPROGRAMMED. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO GET A NEW AND UPDATED ECU IN THE MEAN TIME. I DON''T KNOW WHY THEY JUST DIDN''T INSTALL THE ECU THEY HAD IN STOCK ON SEPTEMBER 30TH. I HAD TO PAY A TOTAL OF 119.88 TO ENTERPRISE FOR THE RENTAL VEHICLE. I''VE CALLED IN TO VOLKSWAGEN CARE NUMEROUS TIMES REGARDING THIS COMPLAINT AND NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. I TOLD THE REPS I SPOKE TO I WANTED AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY MY CAR WAS NOT REPAIRED ON THE 30TH WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN. IT TOOK ALMOST TWO WEEKS TO FIX IT AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR, WHICH WAS UNNECESSARY. A COPY OF THIS HAS BEEN SENT TO J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES FOR THEIR REVIEW. SINCERELY, ROBERT TAYLOR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECREASED IN SPEED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STREET AT SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH, AN OBJECT CAME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD HITTING DRIVER IN LEFTSIDE OF FACE. THIS CAUSE DRIVER TO VEER OFF TO RIGHTSIDE OF ROAD INTO A DITCH, WHERE THE CAR JUMPED A CURB HEAD ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT AIRBAG DEPLOYED ALONG WITH THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND BACK CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYING. THERE WAS NO COLLISION W/EXCEPTION OF THE CURB INVOLVED IN THIS ACCIDENT. THE AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE NO REASON TO DEPLOY LIKE THIS. THIS ACCIDENT WAS VERY SHORT OF BEING A FATALITY. THE IMPACT FROM THE SIDE AIRBAGS SHATTERED ALL OF THE BONES ON THE LEFTSIDE OF THE DRIVERS FACE, AND THE GLASS FROM THE WINDOWS SHATTERING CUT HIS LEFT EYEBALL IN 3 PLACES CAUSING THE EYE LOSS OF HIS EYE. THE DRIVER HAD TO BE RUSHED TO A LOCAL TRAUMA UNIT TO UNDERGO EMERGENCY SURGERY TO TRY TO SAVE HIS EYE. UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL, AS WELL AS HAVING TO HAVE RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY TO TRY AND PUT THE BONES IN HIS FACE AS CLOSE TO BACK TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE. THANKS TO SOMEONE WATCHING OVER HIM HE IS STILL ALIVE. BUT IT IS FAR PAST TIME TO HAVE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THESE AIRBAGS! WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL IT IS SUCCESSFUL! DT
